Has anyone recenly been to this? Was it worth it? We are planning to attend in Aug. I think it is at Boardwalk - Atlantic Dance Hall...is it worth it?
Thanks!

I'd love to hear the answer. We went 2 years ago and it was a complete waste of time. Hopefully it's better.

i attended in June (2nd Welcome Home Wed for me) and it was just OK. For me we were staying at BWV and the kiddos were napping so I was right there and had nothing better to do. I personally dont think that I would ever stop a trip to a park to attend......or make the effort if I wasnt at BC or BW......or schedule it in to an itenerary.
Its a nice break from the norm and you get free lemonade and snacks (they had popcorn and Cracker Jacks). Plus they hand out door prizes, play a Jeopardy style DVC themed game, and do drawings.
Again, I think its just OK. Its your trip so its your call!!

Totally skip it! Snacks are nothing more than little bags of chips or Cracker Jacks, don't even give you a regular can of soda, just a small drink in a cup. Real corny game show type of questions......take a nap instead. :goodvibes

They did a Jeopardy-like game giving away pins as prizes and had cracker jacks and chips (crisps - if you are English). I miss the Mickey Bars from prior years!
They also gave out those AKV hats that they gave away the prior year.
I would give it a pass unless you have nothing better to do.

The best reason to go is if you are at the Boardwalk, have nothing else to do, and want to sit down for an hour.

My DS (7) and I went two weeks ago while we were there and he enjoyed it and I thought it was ok, not great but not horrible. We were there 2 weeks so we had plenty of time to relax and take it slow and one of my goals this trip was to see all of the DVC resorts so I just planned to see this one at this time. My advice is if you have the extra time check it out but I wouldn't stress about making it to it. We got lemonade, cracker jacks, popcorn, and a tan AKV hat. They did give away some nice prizes: the fold up beach towel back pack things to the contestants in the game show. Then they gave away two photo sessions at SSR with the photopass CD's, a couple of bags filled with DVC goodies, and a nice DVC photo album.

DH and I went last July and it was just so-so for us. We probably wouldn't go back.

Were they the AKV hats that fold into themselves and make a little pouch you can hang from your belt?
You know, they've been doing that same format forever now -- I wish they'd change it as so many of us are repeat visitors.

Calypso - I have heard your name so much on the disunplugged broadcasts! Nice meeting you! ;) Are you still planning a meet in Aug. at WDW for fellow disers?
We went in May and got the baseball hats. I heard recently someone got a water bottle holder as the parting gift. I agree, the prize giveaway is pretty good. Generally the 4 people playing the game gets a good prize, then they have a drawing and usually 4 people get great gift bags. I won a gift bag on the cruise and got a neat DVC member beachbag, luggage tags, pins, and a keychain. I love free stuff, so when staying at the BWV or BCV we venture over on Wednesday. The place is always filled.

We went for the first time last week (7/9/08). We were staying at the Boardwalk, so it wasn't that much of a waste of time, but it was pretty lame. We got Cracker Jacks and warm lemonade. If you want to be a contestant and win prizes, it's probably pretty fun and worth it. We got the Animal Kingdom fold-up hats. They were kind-of small for my DH. We probably won't do it again. Unless we want Cracker Jacks or try real hard to be a contestant in the game.

If you thought it was boring, how would you change Welcome Home Wednesdays?

I am not sure who funds it. Since this is held mainly for current DVC members, lets start out by giving out some useful DVC trinkets. Lets upgrade the food, please!! At least some hot dogs, canned sodas, maybe some potatoe salad. Doesn't have to be expensive, but the food is embarrassing. Not even worth giving out. It's way too dark in Atlantic dance hall. I would like to be able to see other members, maybe have sitting areas according to states or something where it would initate members to meet each other. Just some quick thoughts......

I was bummed I missed it last week, but after reading this I feel a little better. I really need a new DVC hat, though :) I resorted to buying one, but checked OKW, SSR and BCV, but couldn't find any DVC ones.... :(

I went in April and thought it was a really fun hour or so for my kids and quite comical. We all got dvc member baseball hats for free, some drinks, and chips etc. as well. The people picked to play the jeopardy style game got nice gift bags of assorted members only stuff. I even won a limited members only pin in the audience. I would go again too and plan to. :thumbsup2 Something is always better than nothing for free.

My advice: Go to the meeting and grill the DVC reps on the Contemporary/Bay Lake Towers building. I mean--do not let up! Never take "we just don't know what's going on" for an answer. Tell them buildings like this don't "just happen"--fess up! It could turn into an uprising--pitchforks and torches!! Members bar the doors until we know what's going on. Hostage situation if neccessary...then, of course, get back to us on the boards with the results. We might even be able to help post your bail.
We went last week. Same old stuff, but we got nice DVC beach bags for our parting gift this time. I had glad it was different than the regular hats. These are nice "backpack" type beach bags!
