Hi everyone. This will be my first PTR. We aren't going for a while but I thought everyone might be ok with going along for our planning ride. Let's first meet the victims of this crazy roller coaster we call a WDW vacation.

Me ~ Heather, 22 ~ wife, sister, daughter, student, secretary, restaurant lover, DIS lurker, impatient vacation planner

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/IMGP0329.jpg

DH ~ Mike, 24 ~ husband, brother, son, restaurant manager, peanut M&M lover, Biergarten addict, main WDW vacation financier

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/IMG.jpg

DSis ~ Courtney, 12 ~ daughter, sister, WDW first-timer, Winnie the Pooh's number 1 fan, softball and soccer player, family comedienne

DSis ~ Hannah, 10 ~ daughter, sister, stuffed animal collector, computer game junkie, chicken finger and french fry lover, WDW first-timer

This will be my fourth trip to WDW and I am more excited than ever. DH and I WERE planning a trip to go in September for FD but then, we had a greater idea...

SURPRISE TRIP!! for my 2 DSis. My family has never been to WDW and probably will never go. It has kind of been a long running joke in my house that my parents tell us every 6 months or so that we are going to WDW but it never pans out. At this point, it will not happen. There are two teens still living at home who really have no interest in going there and my Dad doesn't want to go either. Seeing as he is the one with most of the money... WDW is out. Every time I even mention WDW around Courtney and Hannah, they get all sad and jealous. It is the one place in the whole world that they want to go. For the last couple of years, I have had this fantasy of taking my whole family with us to WDW but that is completely unrealistic considering we are only two newlyweds not even close to being able to cover a 15,000 dollar vacation especially when half of the family doesn't even want to go.

We have come to the conclusion that we will only take the two girls. Believe me when I say this trip will be the trip of a lifetime for them.

So, onto the planning... we will be going in September of 2009. We will be staying at a value resort and getting the Free Dining Plan. We are flying there and renting a car so we won't have to take the Disney busses. Now, for this young married couple, this seems like a lot of money. BUT, we are so motivated to do it, I think we will stay on top of it. To help us keep our eyes on the prize, I made a sort of game board. This will be great because we will be able to see the progress we are making and when I see this poster, I will be less inclined to spend money and more inclined to save it.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/Photo300.jpg

Sorry about the glare but hopefully you can see it. I used the Behr Disney paint samples for the spaces and my Disney picture/day calendar and a coloring book for decoration. The game piece that you can kind of see in the top left corner is flying money.. I found the picture in one of DH's birthday cards and thought it would be a perfect game piece. The quote at the top says "Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy." which, in case you don't know, is posted at the MK.

We have deposited our first money into our glass water bottle (so the only way to get it out is to break it) and we are on our way. Thanks for tuning in and hopefully you will enjoy my updates. If you have any tips for me, especially because this will be our first time traveling with kids, PLEASE let me know. See ya next time!

Putting your money into a glass bottle is an EXCELLENT idea!!! We put all of our change and extra dollar bills into a canister at the end of the day, but we always manage to take more out than we put in :headache: You have a great idea there!! I also love your savings board you made - that's awesome!!! You are very creative!

Thanks! I was pretty proud of my board.. it's fun to look at haha. And the glass bottle... it's kind of a necessity or else we wouldn't save any money. It's kind of cool knowing we can't take anything out. It's like we are guaranteeing ourselves a vacation.

I hope I am doing this right. If I want to put up another post on my thread, I just submit a reply right? Anyway, since our trip is obviously a LONG way away, I decided I can keep everyone entertained by writing some mini TR on all the crazy adventures we have up until WDW. First up.... Mika Concert!

This was the first concert Mika ever played in the US and we got to go to it! It just so happened that he was playing in our humble little area we like to call the Philadelphia area! He was playing at the Electric Factory and we went up there for my cousin's bday. Silly me, I thought we would be able to get tickets the day of. So that morning, I went into work for a couple of hours and went online to buy tickets... no luck. Oh no!! We have been planning this trip for months! Luckily in the next couple of hours, I found 2 tickets on Craigslist and 1 on some random Mika message board I discovered while panicking and scouring the internet for left-over tickets. Well, that's three down.. 2 to go. I posted an ad on Craigslist that I needed two tickets for the Mika concert and left my phone number for anyone to call me if they had them. So, we were off to Philly! First stop... some street corner to pick up our first 2 tickets.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/Picture202.jpg

All went smoothly there. We were to pick up the other ticket in front of the Electric Factory so next, we hit Reading Terminal Market... only one of the best places ever!!! It's basically a huge farmer's market indoors right in the middle of Philadelphia. They have all kinds of FABULOUS food and cool stuff to buy. We had some turkey with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese, Thai food, pastrami, and crepes. We were stuffed but, as in our tradition in Philly, we just kept on eating.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/Picture221.jpg

Next up was Qdoba for some great mexican food.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/Picture007.jpg

After that, we headed across the street to check out this awesome store called 10,000 villages. It's basically a fair trade company where they have handicrafts from all over the world and donate sale money to charity. They have some really cool stuff and everyone should check out the website.

Next, we went to the Electric Factory to pick up our other ticket. After successfully retrieving it, we asked around in the line forming in front of the concert hall and found one more! 4 down, one to go!! Well, nobody else had one and we were starting to get nervous that all of us wouldn't be able to go but, we couldn't let that ruin our plans. We were off to South Street! We already paid for parking so we took the subway there. But wait! On our way to the subway, my cell phone rings. It's a Philly number that I don't recognize which could only mean one thing! Someone saw my ad on Craigslist and just so happened to have 2 extra tickets for the concert. He would only sell them together so we had to get rid of a ticket before we bought the other two. Back to the Electric Factory, we sold our extra ticket to someone else in line.
When we got to South Street, we picked up the two tickets allowing us to eat our Philly cheesesteaks stress-free. And where else to get the best Philly Cheesesteak than.. JIMS!

"Two Whiz Without"

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/Picture247-1.jpg

Oh man, nothing hits the spot better than a Jim's cheesesteak with Cheez Whiz. From there, we headed to Cosi for some s'mores.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/Picture244-1.jpg

After we were thoroughly STUFFED from all of our eating that day, we waddled back to the subway and finally arrived at the concert. We had an awesome time and Mika was amazing live. He only has one album so far so he sang all the songs from that album. The Electric Factory is basically a hollowed out garage so we were packed in there like sardines but that is the true concert experience right? The crowd was dancing and having a great time and the concert seemed to end all too soon.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/Picture010.jpg

At the end of the concert, we headed home fat and happy.
Until next time.. Sending a little magic your way! :wizard:

Hope everyone enjoys! Tonight, I am starting a new tradition for the next year or so (until our trip). Since I am not telling the kids about the trip until very close to leaving (the day before as I have planned so far), I needed to figure out a way to get the Disney spirit going without spilling the beans. So, I decided to have a Disney Movie Night every week. They take turns picking out a Disney movie and we will watch that movie, cook food related to the movie, decorate based on the theme, and maybe play a couple of games. Tonight is Lady and the Tramp.. I'll let you know tomorrow how it goes. And chime in all you lurkers out there! Any good ideas for me? Think I will be able to save all the money? Think I will be able to keep the secret? What do you think about my movie nights? Can't wait to hear from everyone! Sending a little magic your way :wizard:

So, last night was our first Disney Movie Night. We will be doing it every week and I hope they are all as fun and the kids are just as happy as last night. We watched Lady and the Tramp so our theme was Italian for the night. I made up cute little menus and homemade placemats yesterday.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/LadyandtheTrampMenu.jpg

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/477.jpg
This is what the place mats looked like.

Then, on my way home, I went to the store and got some balloon (red and green of course) to hang up around my nifty little banner i made.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/837210e9.jpg

When I got home, I pre-prepared some of the food so all we had to do was pop it in the oven. Then, I hung the balloons and the banner and set the table.

This is just a bowl with water and floating candles. In the middle is actually a shot glass with water in it as well. I used food coloring to color the shot glass water green and the bowl water red.

Then I went to pick up the girls. When they walked in, they were so excited! They were saying "oh my gosh! Heather! It looks so good! This is going to be so fun!" Courtney and Hannah then helped me make dinner.
Here is me so excited:

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/IMGP2076.jpg

When everything was all ready, we put it on the table and sat down to eat.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/IMGP2078.jpg

But not before a toast.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/IMGP2081.jpg
"Cheers!"

And then after that, we just got to sit down, relax, eat our italian water ice, and watch the fabulous movie that is Lady and the Tramp.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/IMGP2083.jpg

This was so fun and we can't wait for next week. It totally serves the prupose of giving me my Disney fix while getting the girls (unbeknownst to them) into the Disney spirit for their surprise trip. Coming up next week... Be Our Guest gourmet dinner. Sending a little magic your way! :wizard:

Thanks so much! It's nice to hear feedback. I am just really hoping I stay this excited and motivated all the way to our trip. I am trying to do everything possible to keep myself on track (my game board, saving money in an unreachable place, making a PTR so I can't just stop (I don't want to disappoint my adoring public! :lmao: ), and the Disney Movie Nights) So hopefully by September of next year, I'll be making a completed TR. That's so great! You'll be there around the same time we will. Well the same time of year anyway.. That's a big undertaking to go with 5 kids! I am the oldest of 5 kids and I can't imagine everyone at WDW at the same time. Here is a little pixie dust for luck with your trip! :wizard: I'm sure it will be fabulous and none of you will ever forget it.

Thanks for the luck.. I'll need it! I'm afraid I'm not a very good secret-keeper... especially one this big! Hopefully I don't blow the surprise though because I imagine that it going to be the best part of the whole planning process.

cute movie nights - what a great sister!

Thanks! I try really hard to be a great sister. But there are a few things I have on my mind in regards to this trip:

1. I have two other siblings... both teenagers, both have no interest (as I have said before). I am so worried that they will be upset (which the most definitely will). I mean, Courtney and Hannah get this FABULOUS trip and Ryan and Ally get... squat? How do I even that out?! Or not even it out, just how do I make it so they aren't so upset and jealous? (Short of bringing them with us because I am not paying for them to go if they don't want to.. they will just ruin the magic for the rest of us) I know Disney World doesn't interest them but just that fact that they would be getting out of school for a week and going on a vacation SOMEWHERE would be pretty great for them ya know?

2. Courtney's 13th b-day is in January. We had already made plans (before I started planning this trip) to go see Wicked on Broadway. She even has a sign hanging up in her room reminding herself to save money for spending money when we go. But... now that we are trying to save all the money we can, a 500 dollar day just isn't feasible. How do I let her down and tell her I can't take her without giving away the surprise trip?!

3. I know Courtney and Hannah would want to save money from their allowance to spend at Disney (even though we are surprising them with 200 dollars spending money each). How do I get them to sock money away without telling them?

4. I am concerned that doing this Disney Movie Night will tip them off. What do you think? I want them to be completely surprised when we tell them about the trip. I am afraid that all this Disney business will make them suspect.

As promised, I will tell you about my moments of weakness. Yesterday, I went to see a movie with my DH. We had free tickets from a radio station so that was ok but after the movie, we went to Wendy's. Now, since we started saving, every DOLLAR I spend, I feel guilty about. Given, it was only 12 dollars but while we were out, we went to the beauty supply store "just to look around" ;) I have needed a new straightening iron for so long! I am restricted to moussing my hair curly or putting it up. Moussing it is no fun in the summer as it gets all sticky and putting it up just gets boring and ugly. But it is 120 dollars! :scared1: That is 1 ticket to La Nouba, or 2 days of the DDP, or 1 night room rate, or... well you get the picture. I'm scared I'll fall off the wagon!

Some good news, We can put 100 dollars extra into our savings fund next week because I worked extra hours for this pay. I have also figured out how I am going to surprise them with the trip (I think so anyway). That is coming up next so stay tuned. Thanks for listening to my ranting and raving. Sending a little magic your way! :wizard:

Just my opinion, but I know I don't go for surprises (no matter how good). My neighbor surprised her brother& SIL wih a surprise dinner. My neighbor, I think, basically did it for herself. She was the one who got the most out of it. I believe anticipation is part of the fun. And, I've watched a lot of videos on Youtube of kids who didn't react the way their parents wanted them to. I can understand not telling kids if it's like a year out, but I think they could handle a few months.
PS: I loved your dinner and will definitely try to duplicate it in the upcoming weeks. I need help with a banner. Did you have a program or something?

I wouldn't surprise toddlers but I think pre-teens will love that you are doing this for them. I actually took my 5 year old daughter on a surprise trip. We did tell her we were going somewhere fabulous. When she asked if we were going to Egypt I said "no, not that fabulous". But close!

Thanks for the input. Really, I don't want to tell them because if something happens and we end up not being able to take them on vacation, that would be devastating ya know? As for the banner, sorry, it was just a lot of trial and error on word. But I know that MS word does have templates for banners. Just go to the help menu and type in banner. A bunch of them will come up. Good Luck!!

I wish 2009 rates would come out already! I want to get a definite price on our reservation. Plus, I hear it has been rumored that the deluxe DDP will go up something ridiculous like 20 extra per person per day. EEK! :scared1: And as you can see from my earlier posts, we NEED the deluxe plan because we LOVE to eat. I think we decided on a week to go. May 13-21. Flying out and in in the middle of the week=lower airfare. ;) Anyway, more later! Until then, sending a little magic your way. :wizard:

I know, I know, I'm chart crazy! The thing is, I had this data scattered all over the place so I decided to put it all on one colorful chart.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/6962da74.jpg

As you can see, in the middle is a thermometer kind of thing to show our total savings. I also have mini charts for extra money we save on top of the 8,400, vacation related expenses (reservation, plane tickets, rental car, etc...), non-vacation related expenses that we need to dip into our Disney fund for (emergencies only), and for extra hours I work to put extra money towards the trip. The premise is that each square is worth a different amount/time on each chart and we fill in the squares as we complete or contribute to that perspective category. There is also an envelope with a little little ledger on it above vacation expenses so we can keep track of what we bought, when, and for how much. (I made the envelope from a piece of paper with no pattern! I was so proud of myself!) Inside the envelope is where we will put our receipts for the things we buy for vaca. Just thought I would share! Until next time, sending a little magic your way!:wizard:

I love this report!!!!

Give me some of your ways of saving money. What you've cut out and such. I love the glass bottle idea.

My son is only 2 and we want to wait until he is at least 4. So I have 2 years to plan and save. Saving is the hardest part for me.

I love the movie nights. As for having your sisters save money why not start a savings account for them. Tell them to put in a little bit here and there and they will have fun watching it grow!

Can't wait to see more of the PTR!

I just have to wow - what a cool sis to come up with this surprise :thumbsup2

I'm gonna be following this report, can't wait to hear how the surprise goes and if you manage to save enough, looks like you're doing really well :cool1:

I love your charts, you have such great hand writing. It's a great way to see how well you're getting on and really encourages you to save - good luck;)

I hope you find a way of doing something for the teenagers, it's a shame you think they wouldn't like WDW but not worth the money incase they don't enjoy it.

Also I love your idea of putting in day to day reports. I like Mika, his music is so happy :lovestruc

MusiqChic99: Thank you so much for joining in and I'm glad you are enjoying so far. I just literally laughed out loud when I read your post because I didn't think I would LIVE to see the day someone asked ME for savings advice! I guess when you have something you really, really want, saving money becomes easier. My DH and I are lucky in the fact that we don't have a mortgage or any kids so it is easier for us to cut back than it is for others.

Here are my saving tips thus far:

1. Cut back on unnecessary expenses (I know it sounds simple but hey, is ANYTHING that sounds simple ever really simple?)
For us, the unnecessary expense we cut out was eating at restaurants. We used to go out to eat twice a day pretty much every day (I know.. gross!) We would never go to the grocery store. We were able to cut back A LOT by setting a "once a week" rule... which is a fantastic cut back if you ask me (almost like quitting smoking cold turkey). I am cooking a lot more which is good because I absolutely love to cook.

2. Treat the money you are saving as if you never had it to begin with.
It's mostly a mental game you play with yourself. For instance, instead of expecting 500 dollars on my pay, I would only expect 300.

3. Write it down!
It also helps so much to WRITE YOUR GOALS DOWN. I can't stress that enough. If you don't write it down in some form (charts for me), it is just a fleeting thought.

4. Reward yourself for sticking to your plan
As you start seeing progress in accomplishing your goal, create a reward for yourself. For us, it is buying something we need for vacation every thousand dollars. If you have ever heard of the Body for Life diet, he tells you to stick to your diet 6 days a week. Your 7th day is FREE! You can eat whatever you want. If you tell yourself you will NEVER eat/buy something again (or for the next however long), there is no way you will be able to follow through with that. If you are looking forward to a reward of some kind though, you will be more likely to stick to your plan.

5. Involve someone else in the planning process.
For me, this includes writing my PTR, talking to my DH about how excited we are and the progress we are making, and keeping a personal trip journal. By doing this, you are almost making an obligation to them to keep them up to date on your progress.

6. Keep reminders of your goal all around you.
As people at work and home can tell you, I have Disney on the brain! My desktop background on my computer is a picture of Disney World, I wear Disney shirts, I drink from a Disney mug, I mean, I'm Disney crazy while I am planning! (Not to mention all of my crazy charts.) I find that if I have reminders like this, it keeps me from becoming impatient and hopeless and helps me become more dedicated and excited. My Disney movie nights are also a great help in this area.

7. Make the trip about someone else.
My DH and I have wanted to go back to WDW for the last couple of years but it wasn't until we decided to surprise my 2DSis that we got our tails in gear and really strapped down. Just the thought of them experiencing Disney for the first time is enough to keep me at work that extra hour, or not get that ice cream cone I have been craving all day.

8. Remember every little bit helps.
This one is pretty self explanatory but it's so true. If you have an extra dollar laying around, put it in your savings! You will be surprised at how fast that pot grows.

9. Put your money somewhere that you can't get to it.
Our solution to this was to put our money in the glass bottle. We can see our money growing but couldn't get it out even if we tried (unless we broke it of course).

10. Save your change.
I never thought this worked but, DH and I have been putting our change in a big water jug for a few years, cashing it in whenever we really need it. Last time we cashed it in, we had over 1,000 dollars in it. How is that for a big payoff for such a small daily sacrifice?

11. Resist the urge to buy that cheeseburger and save the money instead!
This sort of goes along with the "every little bit helps" concept. The premise here being: if you absolutely know that you would otherwise would be spending that money on something unnecessary, put it away instead. The other day, I was craving a Junior Bacon Cheeseburger from Wendy's ALL DAY. I knew that under normal circumstances, I would be in that drive through quicker than you can say "heart attack". That money would be gone either way. I made what I consider to be a good decision, and put that 3 dollars into our bottle instead. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying completely deprive yourself of every little luxury, but if you can do without, do without! You will be surprised at how good you will feel about saving the money instead. I know for me, the feeling of watching my savings grow wins over laying in bed with a belly full of grease any day.

12. Stop driving so much!
With gas prices skyrocketing, we have all felt the crunch. Do you really need to go to Wawa or 7-11 to get that candy bar? Is it really necessary to drive over to your girlfriend's house to tell her about the ridiculous day you had today? Call her instead, pick up extra candy when you are at the grocery store or on your way home from work to keep your cravings at bay. CARPOOL! We have all heard way too much about this gas crisis so I won't go too into detail but you catch my drift... the less you spend on gas, the more you can save for Disney.

13. Set a plan you can follow.
Don't fool yourself into thinking you can save 1,000 dollars a month if you know, realistically, you can only put away 500. You will only set yourself up for disappointment.

14. Suck it up and work!
If you have a job that pays hourly, work a few extra hours every pay to ensure you will have enough money. Maybe you could get a second part-time job to fund the trip. I have been working a lot of extra hours since we started saving. My eyes are perpetually bloodshot and I am ready for bed at around 9:00 but I know it's all worth it!

Are you ready for the DEFINITIVE tip of this collection? Here it comes...

15. Don't be discouraged if you get off track.
You will never follow every rule you set for yourself. You will never save as much money as you wanted to. You will never have a year that doesn't necessitate taking money out of your vacation fund for an emergency. I was so excited to start saving and, don't you know it, the first pay we were supposed to save with, we could only put 60 dollars away instead of 200. Now, I said to myself: "I KNEW it wouldn't go to plan and we might slip up.. but on our FIRST deposit?!" I was really disappointed but decided to just go forward. We have already put an extra 100 away and know we will be able to make it up. Don't fall off the wagon! Get back on the horse.. you know... all those corny encouraging cliches everyone throws around. The only way to accomplish these kinds of goals is to be flexible and don't get down on yourself if you mess up.

Well, I'm all out for now and I'm sure you are tired of reading but that's the best advice I can give you. Good Luck everyone! Don't be afraid to set lofty goals because the loftiest goals have the highest payoffs.

Becx N Gav: Thank you for your support! As you can see, everyone's support really helps me. I think DH and I have figured out something for the teens. We are going to take them on a 4 day snowboarding trip this winter. It is relatively cheap and they will love to go. As for my handwriting, I suppose it comes from the ridiculous amounts of scrapbooking and random crafts I have done. Two years ago, I made a separate 25 layout scrapbook for each of my 4 siblings. (I know, I'm crazy) I agree that Mika's music is very happy.. that's one of the reasons I love it. P.S. did you know that he is terribly dyslexic and can't even READ music? That's why he learned to write music for himself. Thanks for joining in!

Until next time, sending a little magic your way! :wizard:

Great report! I love your charts. It's a great way to keep track of Disney savings.

Thanks! I agree it really does help but will I ever stop making them? I guess that is a question that can only be answered in time. Stay tuned to find out!

I posted a chart here yesterday. I made a different chart to replace that one and replaced the picture on my post. Check it out... I think I can FINALLY stop making them. Thanks for reading!

I'm so glad your dinner went well! It's like bringing a little bit of the Disney magic to your own house. We will be doing a different dinner every other week so there will be plenty for you to read. Next week is Beauty and the Beast.

As for surprising the girls with the trip, I started these dinners without an idea in mind but once I thought of this, I knew it would be perfect. We take turns choosing the movie so that there is no fighting. The last week we do it, which will be the night before we leave, I will make sure it is my turn to pick the movie. It will be Peter Pan night. I will make turkey legs (one of my WDW favorites) for dinner and then create a treasure hunt. Now, I have always known that I am putting together bags for each of them to surprise them (messenger bags with a beach towel, waterproof disposable camera, crocs, Disney shirts, etc...). What I am going to do is put their bags in a big plastic container and actually bury it on the beach (we live about 3 blocks away from the beach). I will create a treasure map that will end there with them actually digging for their buried treasure. Hopefully it will be as great as I think it will be.

I love doing these movie nights because not only will it get us into the spirit, but it is a fun way to bond. I hope your dinners continue to be a success and I will definitely keep you up to date on what we are doing. Until next time, sending a little magic your way! :wizard:

I loved your menus you made last time. What foods are you thinking about?

Well, I was thinking of going along with the "Be Our Guest" theme and making a fancy dinner. I was thinking filet mignon and fingerling potatoes. I may still do this but Hannah (the youngest) is really picky and I don't know if she will eat steak. If I find out she won't, I will make roasted chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and some kind of fancy dessert... maybe creme brulee. I will also break out the tea set DH and I got for our wedding 2 years ago and still haven't used (you know, because of Mrs. Pots and Chip). French food would be a good option because it takes place in France but I know 2DSis won't eat that! There will be a single red rose and tapered candles on the table with a tablecloth and our fancy china. Hope this helps!

Don't worry about the filet mignon - we eat (mostly) vegetarian at our house but DD5 LOVES her Daddy's filet mignon.

Good morning everyone! Reporting in this Monday morning to tell you all about our latest Disney Movie Night. This past Saturday, it was Courtney's turn to pick a movie and she said she wanted to watch Beauty and the Beast. So, that day, I got everything ready. Early in the afternoon I dropped off invitations to Courtney and Hannah that said:

You are cordially invited to a dinner party and the residence of Heather and Mike this evening at 7:30 PM. After dinner entertainment and "tea" will be part of our celebration. Please wear formal attire. Your driver will arrive at 7:00.

I set up a table outside on our little porch with a candle in the middle and our fancy china.

I didn't take a pciture before we served the food but here is what it looked like after.

On the menu for tonight...

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/IMGP2119.jpg

After I got everything set up, I got dressed up and then left to pick up the movie at the video store and the girls. When I got to Hollywood Video, I was informed they didn't have Beauty and the Beast! OH NO!!! So, I drove to Blockbuster to check but they didn't have it either! I called Courtney and asked her to ask her friends if they had it but they didn't. So, I went back to Hollywood Video and tried to find a movie that would fit our theme. I decided on Ratatouille since we were dressing up in nice clothes and treating the dinner like dinner at a restaurant. I went to pick up the girls and then brought them back to my house. When we walked in, DH was dressed up in a jacket and had a cloth over his shoulder. He spoke with the worst French accent I have ever heard and greeted us and sat us at our table. We had dinner (which everyone loved)...

and then tea (aka hot chocolate) , dessert, and our movie.

It was great, as I expect all of them will be... even though we couldn't watch the movie we originally wanted to... it all worked out. Until next time, sending a little magic your way! :wizard:

And they may want to help plan? Either way it's a great suprise!

I am really glad you are enjoying the PTR. As for letting them in on the surprise little by little, these kids are smart. They are catching on quickly without any help from me! But I was thinking about that because we are taking my other siblings away in the fall without 2DSis and I don't want them to feel disappointed of left out in the meantime before the trip. I'm sure I'll come up with a way to keep everyone content.

I thought I would do a little mini report because yesterday was Hannah's 10th B-day. We went over the house for cake and ice cream last night. DH and I got her a Nintendo DS because she has been wanting to save up for one. She was very excited. My G-mom got her the game Nintendogs which is a game where you take care of a virtual dog. (Kind of like a Tomagachi but more high tech :rotfl2: ) And my parents gave her 100 dollars which she will probably spend on an American Girl doll. Oh, you will also notice the AWESOME crown I got her at the dollar store. It was cute! Here are some pictures.

After she opened her DS, I told her that since she doesn't have to save money for this anymore, I want her to start saving her money but I wasn't going to tell her for what. (She caught on pretty quickly to which I responded "Disney World? Yeah right! In your dreams." I would deny the trip to my grave.) Here is the little piggy bank I gave her to start saving.

I have been working A LOT of extra hours these last couple of weeks and I am starting to get really, really tired. All I want to do is sleep all the time. I know it will be worth it but my days are dragging on and all I can think about is my bed. I need some serious motivation.

On a good note, I read good news on another thread that 2009 prices will be coming out on Sunday. Or, I guess it is more accurate to say that prices are anticipated to come out on Sunday. It will feel good to have a definite price and reservation.

I also found these super cute little video cameras that would be perfect for kids at WDW. They are called Flip Ultra made by Flip Video. They are small and can only hold about 60 minutes of video but they are really cute and totally kid friendly. Check them out! Until next time, sending a little magic your way! :wizard:

Welcome back everyone! Last night was Incredibles night and it was really fun. The girls said it was the best movie night yet. Before the girls came over, I decorated the apartment..

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/IMGP2232.jpg

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/IMGP2233.jpg

and I made shirts for all of us...

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/IMGP2231.jpg

What I did was, I found the Incredibles logo online. Then I brought the image into paint and cut out the "i". I saved that image and then brought it into MS word. I sent the image behind the text and then typed in the first letter of each person's name. Then, I printed them out on transfer paper and ironed them onto red shirts. I also gave each girl and invitation in the form of a comic book page. I don't have that image right now but I will add it later on.

On the menu for tonight: Heroes
Chips and dip
"Frozone" sundaes

So, I went to pick up the girls and then to pick up the subs aka "heroes" and then went home. We sat down on the daybed, turned the movie on and ate the best subs ever. (you really CANNOT beat a South Jersey sub.)

This one, we tried to duplicate the pose from the movie but it didn't exactly work out.

Thanks! I'm glad you are enjoying our report so far.

I just bought a new camera. It is an Olympus Stylus 1030 SW. It is a point-and-shoot style camera but, get this, it is waterproof, shockproof, crushproof, dust/sand proof, and freezeproof. That means we can take it to the waterparks, drop it on the ground, and let the 2DSis use it without worrying about damage. It should be here in about a week. YAY!

Also, I got a quote for our vaca. it looks like it will be 4,702.92 for 8 nights/9days in AsMu, MYW PH + Waterpark fun and more, and DxDDP. I'm excited!! Until next time... you know the drill.. :wizard:

I just found your PTR and I love it!! You and I are the same age (it's so nice to see DISers my age, haha) and are in a similiar, yet more selfish situation as you, lol. My DF and I will be getting married next June (we get so much grief about being "so young"--did you hear that too?) and have decided that we want to spend a week honeymooning in WDW. Yes, we could be crazy, haha. We are getting nervous about finances (not just about going to WDW for a week but about being young, not having the best jobs and living together- any tips? lol) but trying to stay optimistic.

Thanks for hopping on board. In regards to the "being too young" thing.... YES!!! We still hear that we are too young yo be married. Well, everywhere but church anyway. I wish we could have taken our honeymoon in WDW. You guys will have a blast. Don't be nervous about money or anything. Although money is usually the biggest point of contention, you will learn to adjust to each other's spending/saving habits. I think you just have to remember that it is not easy. It is really hard but totally worth it. Just don't let something like money come between you. Whenever people ask me how being married is, I say... "Well it's pretty much like dating only we are living together" Don't put so much pressure on yourselves and you will be fine. Don't get down about things out of your control. For instance, this past April, I totaled my car. My husband was really upset about it (naturally) but I just couldn't be. I wasn't seriously injured, I didn't hit anyone else, I didn't damage anyone else's property, and my husband was due for a bonus from work in about a week. So, although it totally stunk that we had to spend the money, there was nothing we could have done about it so there was no use wallowing. Just focus on the good times and the fun and you will be fine. Thanks again for subbing!

SOOOO much fun! I can't wait for the next update! Sorry you've been so tired and hopefully things will lighten up a bit wtih work! It's nice that your husband is also having fun with it!

Yeah Mike is having a blast. He is like a big kid which is great because I am convinced he will keep me young forever! I think work will be fine.. I just feel like I live here!!

Thanks a lot. It's a curse really that I feel like I should be there for my siblings like this. I stress out more than you know... but I know that it will all be worth it.. all the stressing, extra hours at work, less hours in my bed, and monetary sacrifices... eyes on the prize!!

This is a great PTR. Just wanted to subscribe.

I was just sitting here reading some posts about dining and I thought I would just post that we will NOT be making ADR's for this trip. I know... GASP!!! I just never understood how people could know what they would be in the mood for on that day... 6 months in advance!! Food is the most important part of our vacation and it's important for us to live in the moment and just eat what we are in the mood for at that time. We are not even going to plan what parks to go to what day... crazy right?! I have been to WDW 3 times before and have never made ADR's.. never had a problem. I mean, even if we have to wait an hour or whatever for a table (which we never have and I don't expect having to in May) we are, after all, in an amusement park! It's not like there is a shortage of things to do to keep us occupied. Anyway, just wanted to drop that bombshell on everyone. Am I being totally crazy?!

LOL YES!!! You are crazy:eek:

I don't necessarily plan every minute, but I do plan adr's around park hours and stuff. And even if I change plans and don't plan on being at that park, that day, at least I know I have it. You can always cancel...

I am right there with you.. I've pretty much grown up at WDW and we have never made an ADR. We've never had a problem.

I guess I could understand if you were going with a huge group of people but for a smaller group, ADR's seem unnecessary. Plus, food is huge to us too--I get in particular moods (pasta mood, steak mood, cruncy mood, etc) and I wouldn't want to not be able to feed the craving! haha.

I do wonder if your Dsis's would enjoy CRT since this is their first time? That could be pretty magical.

I think that unless there is something you really want to do (like CRT or a dinner show) that it wouldn't be a big deal not to make reservations.

I also wanted to add that I too get the "Wow, you were married young" speech often. I'm 27 now and we've been married 7 years and have 2 kids now.... and people still say stuff. Like you said though, at Church I never had a problem.

People are so strange. Of course if you lie to your children and tell them they are going somewhere else they may very well be unprepared and react badly. And I would never not tell a pre-teen with angst issues. That kid looked like he or she would have hated going even if he/she had known.

Your sisters are going to be over the moon! Really. Not to worry.

Ok folks, the movie/dinner nights don't stop when you leave, because you need something for when you come back to decompress.
Maybe even a Mickey dinner. I would like to make those rice krispy treats and dip them in chocolate. Does anyone have any idea where I could get a Cinderella shoe chocolate mold? I mean the 3-d one that you fill with chocolate mousse and raspberries.

May used to sound like a long way but with the struggle to save money, it seems way too soon. DH and I are taking the other siblings to Busch Gardens in September so it will kind of even out. Plus, we have done A LOT for the older ones and not as much for the younger ones. I guess they will find out when the younger ones come home excited.

Sorry everyone for my extended absence. I have had a busy month. The week after my last post, I was camping in upstate NY as a leader for our church's youth camp. After that, I have just been getting back into the swing of things.

Anyway, no progress on the vacation front except that we got our new camera. It's awesome! I will write when I have something interesting to say. I just wanted to let everyone know what has been going on. Until next time, sending a little magic your way. :wizard:

We haven't done anything exciting recently for them as we are moving in October and our finances are kind of strapped because of it.

Got the results back from the doctor. I don't have celiac but he diagnosed me with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. Basically: "Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome (RSDS), also known as complex regional pain syndrome, is a rare disorder of the sympathetic nervous system that is characterized by chronic, severe pain." according to WebMD. Sounds like fun right? I have to go see a specialist. I guess we will see how it goes.

I figured out how we will do our Disney trip. It will be THREE different reservations. :scared1: It will save us about 1,000 dollars though from what we were planning on spending. My birthday is coming up. I will be 23 on the 23rd. Crazy huh? Anyway, sorry I have been absent for a while but hopefully I will have something fun to write about soon. Until next time.. :wizard:

That's quite a diagnosis. I haven't heard of that before but it sounds painful. Sorry you have to go through this.

I'm interested to know why 3 reservations will save you money. That sounds complicated! :)

Take care and I hope they can help you with your RSDS.

WOW! That's a mouthful! What type of specialist do you see? My husband has had horrible back pain for as long as he can remember. After a series of diff types of doctors not knowing what the problem was, he finally got sent to a rheumatologist (I'm sure it's not spelled right!) and he has some digenerative back disorder. It will never get "better" but I have to give him a shot once a week to help prevent it from getting worse. Anyhow, your thing doesn't sound like it's the same as his but maybe in the same "family" of diseases? They said it's an autoimmune disease. :confused3 The UPSIDE is that I'm SURE you can get a handicap parking permit!! DH's doctor filled out the forms for him and now he has a permanant front row parking spot! haha So if you really are in a lot of pain, you may look into that.

Now, back to Disney, please do tell us how 3 ressies will save money. I don't remember what your original plan was? Did you originally plan on 3 hotels or did you change up from the original plan! Share! Share!

Oh, and, uhhh hmmm, to be 23 again! Gheesh! You're a puppy! haha

Thanks everyone for you support. I guess they are still looking into it so maybe... just maybe.. thats not what it is. The specialist I will see is a neurologist and it is a neurological disorder. It's mostly just pain management.. nothing else really that they can do.

Hi everyone! I'm here and still alive. We have had a really eventful last couple of months. We have moved into a new beach house and found out my dad has two major arteries that are 80 percent blocked. He is currently taking medication to lessen the blockage and we will see how that works in about 5 months. Lots of vacation setbacks but hopefully we will still get there in May. I got a pincode last night offering a free 500 dollar gift card with a reservation that just HAPPENS to be the dates we are planning on! I'll take extra vaca. money anywhere I can get it! We haven't had any Disney nights because of all the moving but we will be starting that up again soon. I'll be posting regularly again so until then, sending a little magic your way! :wizard:

Well, our trip is only 6 months away and I am in the process of trying to figure out the exact dates we can go. We were planning to go from May 6-13 but I just found out I have finals from May 11-16. That means our original dates are out. I dont want to go the week after that because the 25th is Memorial Day Weekend... eek! We also can't really go much before because my husband gets a bonus from work the last day of April and we want to be able to use that to help with vacation (spending money and such). I don't know what to do!

On a less depressing note, when we tell the girls, we are planning on doing my Peter Pan movie night treasure hunt. I am making a scrapbook of pictures and souvenirs from all of our Disney nights. I also want to put together bags of things they can use on our trip. I need help coming up with things to put in there. Let's see who can come up with the most unique, out of the ordinary, fun things to include. We will try to stay away from the autograph books, pens, chapstick, sunscreen, fans, etc... They are all so generic! Let's try to get off the beaten path and see who can be creative! Keep in mind I will have a teenager and a preteen so coloring books and the like probably wouldn't work. Can't wait to hear your suggestions and stay tuned for our next Disney night.. Hercules! on Monday night. Until then, put on your thinking caps and I'm sending a little magic your way :wizard:

I am in graduate school, and I know that professors are sometimes flexible with final dates, have you thought abut asking them if you can take your finals at a different time? Even if they say No, it couldn't hurt to ask...

Did you do the Busch Gardens thing with the teens in Sept.? I thought the snowboarding idea was genius.:)

Thank you for joining and and welcome. I hope I will be able to work it out. I have never had to reschedule any finals or anything. I will be taking Biology 2, Chemistry 2, Calculus, Engish, and Psychology. It's a really full schedule and I am also concerned about having to miss labs for a week. I guess we will see. I am sure we will be able to figure out a good time.

We didn't do Busch Gardens because we were moving and it was just too much at once. We won't be doing anything for my sister as next year, we are traveling to Ireland with her for her graduation. As for my brother, we may see. He might be moving in with us because my family might be moving back to the town they just moved from and my brother doesn't want to go back to his old high school. He likes living here because its a beach town and he likes to surf. Anyway, that will be hard on us.. going from being newlyweds with no kids to having to care for a teenager!!! Yeah, so no plans yet but we will see.

Are you a snowboarder? You seem very excited about that idea! Anyway, keep on reading.. hijinx are inevitable on this PTR! You know the drill... :wizard:

What an amazing big sister you are. (I bet my younger siblings wished I would have been that great of a sister) I am however the bestest auntie to my niece who lives by me (even though she is only 6 weeks old, but that's what I tell her everytime I see her. :lmao: :lmao: )

I love how creative you are, and you ideas for disney movie nights are amazing, we do that also in my house, but it consists of my sons each getting to pick a movie and I get to order the pizza:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I am doing a twelve days before disney thing for my sons. Each day twelve days before we leave they are going to get a gift bag that I will decorate with stickers for them, and inside will be something that we need for the trip. Waterproof disposable cameras for the water park, m&m contairs full of pennies and quaters for the pressed penny machines and a list of all the pressed penny machines, binoculars for the safari ride, and I don't know what else yet.

Looking forward to reading your pre trip.

That is a great idea for your 12 days of Disney. I still haven't decided how far in advance to tell the girls but I will figure it out. Hi everyone, just wanted to post some pictures of the ornaments I made for my tree this year. They took a long time to make but they are super cute and exactly what I wanted so it was worth it. Hope you like them!

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/PB160033.jpg

These are wooden snowflakes. I cut cardstock out the same shape as the snowflake and then used sparkly mod podge to make them look "frosted". Then I used ribbons... pink and red to make the hooks. Each snowflake... even each side of each snowflake has a different paper on it.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/PB160034.jpg

These are wooden squares. I painted them a sparkly white color and they look kind of like snow. I then took Mary Engelbreit stickers and put them on the front and back of the ornament (I had 18 different stickers). Then I used a shimmery Jelly Roll pen and did the border around it. I drilled two hole in the top and then used ribbon as before.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/PB160037.jpg

I followed the same procedure here as with the snowflakes except I had to drill holes in the top to get the ribbon through. These also have a different paper for each side of each star.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/PB160041.jpg

These are actually cookie cutters that I used ribbon to create a loop and then hot glue gunned a bow to the front.

I also have white Christmas balls that I painted red and green polka dots on and jingle bells that I am tying to the branches with the same ribbon as the gingerbread bows.

Thanks for checking out my ornaments! Stay tuned for pictures from our Disney dinner tonight! Until then... :wizard:

Great ornaments. I remember how fun it was to do crafty things before the kids came along....... haven't done much since.

Have you thought about putting your initials and the year on the backs of some of these ornaments. Time flies..... and it would be nice for you or your recipients to remember "way back when these were made..."

You know what I mean?

Love your ornaments. You are very creative and talented when it comes to crafts.
My sons and I also make ornaments each year. Each year we do a different design, last year we made beaded snowflakes, the year before we made reindeer out of jingle bells and that kind of thing. While they won't win any awards for creativity they are fun to make.

Thank you for your compliment! I like doing crafty things. It helps pass the time while my "invisible" husband is at work. I love him dearly but he isn't around very often because he is a restaurant manager. So, while I am home alone, crafts keep my hands and mind busy. And as for them not being complete works of art, you are right, the only thing that matters is that you have fun making them.

Last night was 101 Dalmations night! I decorated the house with spots I made out of cardstock all over the walls:

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/PB170045.jpg

On the menu: hot dogs, pepperoni pizza (the spots!), and french fries with chocolate chip cookies (the spots again!) for dessert.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/PB170048.jpg

Last night, Courtney got into a fight with my mom so she wasn't allowed to come :sad2: She was really, really upset. So, my other DB and DSis came over to enjoy with Hannah. So, first we ate dinner:

"Say Disney!"

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/PB170049.jpg

Then, we made our 101 Dalmation BINGO boards. I made boards with 16 squares on each then made a list of 16 words to listen for in the movie and had everyone write in the words on their board in whatever order they wanted. Whoever won the most BINGO's was promised a prize at our next Disney night. I thought BINGO would be perfect as you mark your words off with spots! Or poker chips in our case ;)

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/PB170050.jpg

Just as we were about to start the movie, my mom called and said that Courtney would be coming over... YAY! I was glad she could come over after all especially becase these Disney nights are to get them ready for our trip. So, Courtney came over and I fed her a hot dog and some pretzels...

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/PB170060.jpg

And then we started the movie. Everyone got at least on BINGO except for Hannah :sad1: She was sad but, of course, she gets a prize next time too. Our DVD player stopped working about 20 minutes before the movie was over but it was fun anyway.

I am officially making my reservation this Friday!! As all of you who have been reading along, we were keeping our money in a glass bottle making it more difficult for us to get to but I came up with an even better idea! We will be making our reservation and every time we get paid, we will call Disney and put the set amount directly towards our vacation. That makes it not difficult, but IMPOSSIBLE to get to unless we call Disney and cancel our trip. I'm sure there are a lot of you who already do this... I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier.

I have started compiling a trip binder. Well, I will have at least two anyway. The one that has already been completed is my dining binder. As you know, we will not be making ADRs. I have printed out the menus (available courtesy of allears) from all of the restaurants (currently) on the DDP and categorized them by park and resorts in the area of those parks. I have also separated them by counter service and table service. Since we will be there for 8 days, that means 16 meals and there are 4 of us. So each of us gets to pick four meals. Every day, one person will pick our counter service and one person will pick our table service. They will be able to look at the menus in our hotel room before we even leave in the morning. I know it really stinks when you eat somewhere on vacation and then pass somewhere else you would have rather eaten. Hopefully, being able to look at the menus will eliminate that disappointment.

I wish the May hours would just go up already!! I am getting the itch and need to start planning what parks we will go to and when. All I know is that the day we arrive, we will do Magic Kingdom and the PnPP. Yay! What a perfect start to vacation. I know a lot of you don't do the parks on your first day but our plane ride is only a two hour trip and we will be there before 9 AM. This gives us a full first day to enjoy the parks. On our last day, our flight doesn't leave until after 9 PM so we will also have most of a full day on our last day. Our trip is starting to seem like it is right around the corner and I am getting way too excited for my own good. Until next time, sending a little magic your way! :wizard:

P.S. I haven't heard from most of you since I have been back. Are you still out there? And all you lurkers, come on out of Lurkland and let me know what you think!

Just wanted to say that it's so exciting for you to be able to make your reservations Friday. I'm a little jealous ;) I'm trying to talk my husband into a May or June trip.... but it's not going so well.

Were you able to figure out dates that work for you?

We will be going from May 1-May 8 as long as DH can get off work (which we anticipate being no problem). It is literally the ONLY week that will work for us so, if DH cannot get off, we will have to wait until September which wouldn't be TOO bad because we can do FD but I don't want to wait!!

My new dilemma is deciding whether or not to get the dining plan. It would be good for us to have those meals paid for beforehand except we are not making any ADRs and the only way the DDP would be worth it to us would be if we ate at expensive places which are not guaranteed to be available for walk-ups. We will also have to pay OOP for appetizers and tip anyway. So confused.... someone help! Also, does Disney set aside tables at restaurants for walk-ups? I have been 3 times and have never had to wait for a table.

I also need to advice. What special things can we do with the girls that will make the trip even more special. Something just for them. Any suggestions?

Here is our itinerary (not day specific)

1. MK and PnPP
2. EPCOT
3. DHS
4. Typhoon Lagoon and the Boardwalk
5. Universal, IOA and City Walk
6. AK, DTD and La Nouba
7. Another day at EPCOT (may change)
8. Another park day or shopping day at DTD

How does it look?

I'm still here. I love your PTR too much.:surfweb:

I have to admit that I am a little worried about you not having ADR's. I totally understand the "want to be flexible and free" idea, but as you yourself have stated, the DDP really only works if you have a certain amount of table service meals and that often means having an ADR.

You know, that just b/c you "make" an ADR, doesn't mean you have to "keep" your ADR if it doesn't work for you on a particular day.

Having said all that (can you tell I'm a mother), you are going in the first week of May. It is not a crowded time, compared to others, so if you really want to gamble, then it just might work out for you.

Disney announced in November, that this past October had the lowest number of people coming to the parks since 1993. That is why you are seeing so many great deals right now. Unless the economy really improves dramatically in the next few months, I imagine crowd numbers will still be lower than average (except with us Disney Fanatics, ooops...I mean Enthusiasts!)

Was this more advice than you were looking for?

DH can't get off for our dates in May. We will be waiting to go in September. I am trying not to be too depressed by telling myself that we may be able to do free dining, we will be there for the food and wine festival, it will be over my birthday, we will have more time to save more money, we will be able to have more Disney nights before we go, and I won't be missing the last week of classes before finals in May. I don't even want to think about waiting another 4 months for our vaca. but it will be good. Hey, lighter crowds right? Last time we went in September, we didn't wait more than 10 minutes to get on a ride and usually we didn't have to wait at all. We didn't go on Soarin' because the line was 20 minutes long. I know, snobs right? haha.

Not only am I stressed about that but starting tomorrow my 18 year old brother who is a senior in high school is moving in with me and DH. My family is moving out of our town but DB wants to stay in the same school so we told him he could stay with us as long as he follows my rules. We will see how long that lasts. This will be difficult for us. We will have no more privacy, I will have to get up early to drive DB to school, I have to worry about him (where he is, making sure his grades are kept up, keeping on top of his college apps. etc...) and, worst of all, we can't talk openly about our WDW trip because we don't want DB to know! That is gonna be really hard. The worst part is, I don't think DB gets it. I think he thinks it will just be one big party and he will get to do whatever he wants. Don't get me wrong I love him and we are friends but this will be a hardship. I mean, there is a reason DH and I haven't had kids yet. So, wish me luck as we go through this transition. Any encouragement for the trip reschedule would also be greatly appreciated. Let's hear why it is a blessing in disguise. Anyone? As always.... :wizard:

I think September sounds good. You'll also be able to get the gift card since you'll be going for your birthday... so that's some extra spending money. Plus you'll save so much if you can get free dining. Although, if you go during free dining you'll probably need to make some ADRs... the restaurants had no walk up opening when we were there this past September.

I hope it all works out with your brother. I have a brother who sounds very similar to yours and he's stayed with me before. It's hard to get the right balance... my brother thinks of me as his friend and sister (and I am) but when he's staying with me I'm also the "lawmaker" (his words) and he gets so annoyed by it all. But in the end it's always worked out okay. Here's hoping that it all goes smoothly for you.

Have a great day!
Erin

Erin

NOOOOO! Say it ain't so!!! If it were just DH and I going, I would totally make ADRs but I want the girls to have a say in where we eat and I can't get that input without letting on about the trip. We will probably still not make ADRs but call the restaurants that morning to see if they have any availability. I think 3 things are in our favor... 1. crowds are down at WDW in general 2. September is usually less crowded (albeit maybe more crowded than usual because of free dining popularity) and 3. we will probably be eating dinner late.. like around 8 or 9 at night. I am hoping that everything will work out the way we want it to.

Thanks for the pixie dust you sent over. I'm going to look at the silver lining. As for my brother, hopefully everything will turn out fine. I know we will always love each other so I am not all THAT worried. Until next time.. :wizard:

Just wanted to celebrate and pass on some information in this post. DSis12 birthday is at the end of January. You may remember that she asked us to take her to see Wicked in NYC. I was surfing the web today and came across a fabulous deal. For any of the Disney shows on Broadway, buy one ticket get one free!!! If we take advantage of this deal, we will be able to take her out for dinner and ice skating before the show. She wanted to see Wicked but I hope she won't be disappointed by the change. When I talked to her earlier today, at first she said she wanted to see Wicked, then brought up Phantom of the Opera. When I told her about the Disney deal and about dinner and ice skating, she said it sounded like a lot of fun. It is hard for me to really guage how she feels because she is a total people pleaser. Whenevr we do anything, her line is "I don't care, whatever you want". So, I jsut have to hope she will be excited. DH took me to see Lion King for my birthday a couple of years ago and it was FANTASTIC. DSis said she would probably want to see Mary Poppins. Anyway, just wanted to leave that info. and if anyone would like that code for the tickets, please let me know and I will let the cat out of the bag! Until next time... :wizard:

Hey girl!

Sorry to hear things didn't work out to go in May. But you never know. It may be a blessing in disguise. You'll get to celebrate your birthday while you are there and have more time to save up.

I think my family is planning a trip for May. Not too sure though. It would have been fun to be there at the same time, figuring the last time I was at Disney World was with you and the rest of the crew. LOL!

Hi! Sorry, everyone, for the temporary moratorium as I have been mourning the loss of over 3,000 pictures, 7 DVD's I have made, and over 1,000 songs, not mention all of my files saved on my computer. Yes, my computer crashed, I had to get the hard drive replaced, and I didn't have anything backed up... I know, I know! So, here I am, back again. Since we have last caught up, DH and I bought tickets to take my sister and mom to see Phantom of the Opera on Broadway for their birthday. Their b-day is the same day at the end of January and we will be going to NYC at the beginning of February. Courtney knows we are going but not my mom. She will be so excited! Neither of them has ever seen a show on Broadway so it will be great. I hope everyone has a great week and Happy Holidays to everyone!! Well, everyone that's still out there. Let's hear from all of you that are!! Until next time.. :wizard:

Hi everybody! Well last time you heard, DH was sick with the stomach virus. Well, as you know, viruses never keep their hands to themselves and three of us ended up getting it.. my mom, my brother, and me. It was definitely one of the worst stomach viruses I have ever had. So I was sick over the weekend and into the next week. Tuesday, my family went up to PA to see my mom's family and we had a lot of fun. After that, they came down here and hung out some more. We don't get to see them very often so it's always nice when we get to spend some time together. My mom is one of eight kids and she actually has some siblings that I have never even met but I will someday.

Anyway, that brings us to today. I am getting ready to go to church but just so happened to catch a Travel Channel special on the country's best waterparks and it gave me that old feeling. I can't believe our trip is still nine months away! I will die waiting for this trip! The end of this month will bring big things for me. The 20th, school starts again and the 30th is Disney reservation day! I can't wait. Once our trip is booked, it's for real. In April is when we will pay for Discovery Cove (the surprise within the surprise), Universal tickets, La Nouba tickets, and MNSSHP (if we can) tickets. July will bring our plane tickets and September, our trip! At least we have a plan (although I guess we have so many haha) I saw SheaBear at Coldstone this weekend and they are... at Disney right now I think. Can you say JEALOUS?!?! Anyway, I will update later and try to add some pics. Stay tuned for our next Disney night this week... Mulan! Until then, sending a little magic your way. :wizard:

Ick, sorry to hear everyone got sick over the holidays - that has happened to my family before and it is no fun  Glad to hear your holidays were nice otherwise. Random comment but you mentioned visiting family in PA and I think I remember earlier in your PTR that you and DH live in the Philly area? What a coincidence - I live in the Philly area too! Glad to finally meet someone from near me!

Anyway, I hate waiting for vacations too but I'm sure it will be here before you know it. I must have missed that you were going to Discovery Cove and Universal too, you are really making the rounds while you are down there, your two sisters will love it! I'm jealous - I wish I could be planning a Disney vacation!

Can't wait to hear about the Mulan movie night - that is one of my favorite Disney movies :yay:

Welcome! We do consider ourselves in the Philadelphia area but we are really about 10 minutes outside of Atlantic City. It's nice to have someone from the area on my PTR! We are definitely packing our trip full. I keep going back and forth between knowing we won't get to see it all and just taking our time and wanting to see everything in a week. I guess I will have to try and find a good balance between the two and our vacation will turn out great. Mulan night will be coming soon but for now, I will post some pictures of a Disney night I never got to cover. This was our Winnie the Pooh night.

I decorated just by hanging up pictures of the Winnie the Pooh gang on the walls and windows.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/Picture066.jpg

After dinner, we had soapapillas for dessert. For those of you who don't know what they are, they are basically just fried tortillas with honey, cinnamon, sugar, and whipped cream.. SO YUMMY! And, since it has honey in it, it fit right into our theme!

It was fun. I kept it pretty simple this time but we all love this movie so it was a good time.

On another note, I joined the Disney Movie Club and I can't wait for my first 6 movies to arrive. I got 6 movies for 32 dollars!! P.S. The Little Mermaid, The Little Mermaid 2, Peter Pan, and Peter Pan: Return to Neverland are being put away in the Disney vault at the end of this month so if any of you want to buy them, hurry up!! Who know when they will be back.

Mulan is later this week so stay tuned! It will be a fun one. Until next time.. sending a little magic your way! :wizard:

You really should write a book or something with all your cute ideas that go along with the movies you show! Too cute!

When are your dates going to be for September? I really would consider making ADRs. Especially if they offer free dining this year in Sept. You really truly cannot find an ADR at any of the popular places that you all might like. I know the girls are kinda old for this but what about character dining too? You certainly will have to have an ADR for Chef Mickeys or Crystal Palace or CRT. You all look like a fun bunch and I would recommend an ADR for the PrimeTime cafe too!

Good luck with the rest of the planning!

Thank you for the wonderful compliments! The pic of your little one is sooo cute! Love the little Tigger costume! Our dates will be 9/21-9/28 I am sure it will be busy dining-wise but I am actually hoping for Free Dining. It would help us out with cost a lot. I will probably go back and forth over ADR's a hundred times but I think I will land firmly planted in ADR Rebellion Territory. I guess I must just be some kind of Disney Vacation Kamikaze. In any case, it will definitely be an adventure! I think the girls would actually really like character dining (heck I do!!) so maybe I will make an ADR for at least one of those meals. Thanks for the advice and the support! Until next time.. :wizard:

Those are my dates too! Maybe we'll see you around!

Especially if you are on the dining plan (free or paid for) please make ADRs! You will be wasting money by not being able to eat at TS places. We tried to change around some ADRs last year and couldn't get anything! Thankfully I had an OOP breakfast planned that turned into our last FD TS meal.

Hi all, only one more week until I start school again. I don't think I have mentioned it on here before so, to catch you up, I am currently attending community college with the plans to finish up at Rutgers University. I am majoring in Marine Biology and Psychology. I am taking 19 credits this semester.. EEK! I am also working part time. It is going to be crazy and I am getting really nervous. I am also a little on edge because I have to get A's in all of my classes in order to be eligible for the scholarship I need one I continue on to Rutgers. So, I'm kind of stressing but I know I can do it. I guess this is a good thing because it distracts me from how dang far away our trip is. Anyway, wish me luck! So, is anyone else totally psyched about Disney making their first 2D animated movie in 5 years?! I just found out today and it looks so cute! It's called "The Princess and the Frog". I think it comes out next Christmas and I can't wait. I love the Pixar movies but nothing is more exciting and fantastical as a classic 2D animated feature! Thanks for joining in on my PTR. I really hope we do have a good time. I'm joining your PTR. I'm from NJ too a bit more north than you, however - in Monmouth County. My cousin lives in Port Republic and my aunt and uncle live in Tuckerton.

We will be there in Apr-May so we will miss you - flying out of Atlantic city airport, though! I am going to 3rd or 4th or 5th having ADR's. Since Disney introduced the DDP, ADR's can be hard to come by even in the lighter crowd times. We don't plan which park we are going to visit each day but make our ADRs and if dinner is at Le Cellier and we are at DHS, we just take the boat over to Epcot.

Oh, and I am totally borrowing your movie night theme idea! I think my kids would get such a kick out of it and a great way to introduce them to some of the movies they aren't as familiar with yet (Sleeping Beauty, Mary Poppins, Cars, Monster's Inc, Pete's Dragon, and Peter Pan are always on here).

I just wanted to say I love your posts. I took my Dsis and DBro to WDW for their High School Graduation present, as my parents could never afford it, and we had a blast. I also took my DS3 (at the time). We had so much fun. We never had dinner reservations as they are picky eaters and just ate counter service and we still had a great time. I am now in the process of planning a trip in Nov. for my family. Your ideas for the Disney themed dinners are wonderful and I hope you don't mind me borrowing some of them. It is a long way until Nov. so I thought this would help us get in the mood. We have not told the kids we are going yet not sure if we are going to surprise them or not. Looking forward to hearing about your Mulan dinner.

I can't believe it's been almost a full week since Mulan night. I am really dropping the ball here! I have just had a stressful week trying to get things in order for school and the people in the financial aid office are "dirty trashcans full of poop". And that's all I have to say about that. Now, on to the fun stuff. We had Mulan night on Sunday. We picked the girls up and then stopped at our favorite Chinese place to get Chinese take-out. Once we got home, we mandated that everyone eat with chopsticks. This is how it turned out...

While Courtney started of with the two handed method and ended up...

ditching the chopsticks all together!

After dinner, we opened up our fortune cookies.

When we were done reading our fortunes, we headed over to the living room and did some oragami while we watched the movie. I don't know how many of you have done oragami but it is DANG hard! They don't give you directions in words.. only stupid pictures with incomprehensible arrow looking things.

It was hard but we finally figured it out and made these cute little boxes!

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/P1110318.jpg

At the end of the night, each of them got a little Chinese-to-go container that I filled with red paper shreds and tons of candy.

Welcome, welcome! It's nice to see someone from my neck-of-the-woods. Flying out of the AC airport is fabulous! It's small and you get through security and all that jazz so quick! Not to mention it's only about ten minutes away from my house! And the flight is only two hours long. Seriously, how can you beat that?! Well, maybe if you live ten minutes away from the world itself but you know.. I am glad you will be starting movie nights. They are super fun and I want to hear all about them!

Well, hello... look! It's someone as crazy as me! That's awesome you took your siblings on a trip. I bet it was so fun. In regards to the movie nights... thieve away!

We actually won't be telling them until the night before we leave! Or maybe the week before we leave... I haven't decided but either way, it's about eight months away. It's really hard to keep the secret but it will be worth it. In regards to the big reveal, lets just say that it will have something to do with Peter Pan and buried treasure!

Well, this week was my first week of spring semester. And boy was it a full week! I leave the house every morning at 7 am and on my earliest day, I get home at 8 pm. I am so tired all the time!! Hard classes, lots of work.. I thought it would help make time pass faster but it's the opposite! At least I have off Friday, Saturday, and Sunday every week, though. Hopefully this weekend we will do Disney night. I hope everyone is doing well! Until next time.. :wizard:

Thank you for sending me luck... I will need as much of it as I can get. I thought I may have some down time on the weekends but apparently not. I guess my "free time" on the weekends is now for grocery shopping, cooking, studying, cleaning, laundry, and errands. UGH!! I don't know how I am going to do it but I guess I will feel like I accomplished something huge once the semester is over. It is just frustrating because a couple of the classes I am taking now, I am only taking because I HAVE to. I feel like I just have to get through them but then... when I look at my major requirements, I realized I have 2 or 3 semesters after this one of those kinds of classes (Chemistry, Physics, and Calculus). I just want to fast forward three semesters and get to the interesting stuff already! Oh well... one day at a time...

Sorry everyone for the hiatus. I have been crazy busy with school. Good news though, I have taken my first test in each of my classes and got A's on all of them! I was really nervous about my Calculus test and my Psych test but I aced them anyway. Yay for me!

Last Wednesday was Phantom of the Opera day! I went to class in the morning because I had an English test and then we left for NY around 9:30. Once we got there, we walked to Grand Central Terminal to eat lunch. I was really excited because I thought it would be like Reading Terminal Market in Philly only bigger. It wasn't, incidentally, and I was disappointed. I found a turkey bone in my chili and my pizza was soggy and greasy. (I though NY pizza was supposed to be great!!... oh well, nothing can compare to Jersey shore pizza. I have 2 words for you... Mack and Mancos) Anyway, when we were done, we set off for the most important stop of the day... THE WORLD OF DISNEY STORE!!! We stopped and the American Girl Store and St. Patrick's Cathedral on the way.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/P2110348.jpg

Once we got there, I felt like I had died and gone to heaven! I was dancing around and singing like a fool to every song they had playing. I didn't even care!!

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/P2110351.jpg
DH and I with our AWESOME Hannah Montana Headsets on!

Everyone there must have been either thoroughly entertained or thoroughly annoyed. The store has three floors of Disney goodness and took us a while to soak everything in.

View from the third floor.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/P2110359.jpg

When we were done, we headed towards the car. We stopped at Jamba Juice and got smoothies (mine was gross but DH's was awesome! It was the chocolate peanut butter one.) Our plan was to eat at Chipotle for dinner and... what do you know!.. it was right next store to Jamba Juice. We had a fabulous dinner there (as always... why don't they build on around here?! We have to drive over and hour just to get to one.) and then walked back to the car to change.

When we got to the theater, we were about 45 minutes early so we just hung out in the lobby area and waited for them to open the doors.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/P2110363.jpg

My mom was curious to see how full the theater would be so I wen over to ask the woman in the ticket booth. The convo. went a little something like this:

Me: Hi, I was just wondering how full the theater will be tonight.
Ticket Lady (TL): Why do you want to know?
Me: Ummm, my mom was just curious I guess.
TL: Oh, because the theater isn't full and I might be able to give you better seats. Where are you sitting?
(side note: apparently this is common for people to ask for upgrades on their tickets. We didn't need them because I bought AWESOME seats for us.)
Me: Oh no, we are sitting in row J in the Orchestra.
TL: I can't give you any seats better than that.
Me: Well, I wasn't really looking for better seats. I just wanted to know how full the theater would be.
TL: It's a quiet night.

It was literally one of the most awkward conversations I have ever had in my life! So, finally, they opened the doors and we went into the theater. When I tell you we had the best seats... I mean we had the BEST seats. We were in the orchestra, about 9 rows back (just close enough to see the actors up close and far enough away to see the whole stage at once without having to constantly crane our necks.), right in the MIDDLE!!! It was incredible.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/P2110368.jpg

The first half of the show was great (as you expect Phantom to be). During intermission, I was singing parts of the show, unconsciously, and the person behind me said "wow, you're better than the people up there! We were very impressed!" Then, he said "I'm a broadway producer and I am casting for a new Disney show. We are going to be doing Snow White and I would like to personally invite you to come audition for us!" OMG!! .......Ok, ok you got me! The second part was a lie but that would have been cool, huh? I'm sure what he said was an over-exaggeration but it made me smile anyway.

The show was great. I really got goosebumps every time the actor who played the Phantom sang. It was a good day... long and tiring but worth it. The rest of my week suffered from not getting home until 2 am but everyone had a great time and I'm glad we went.

Monday afternoon, since the kids didn't have school, we had another Disney night... well, Disney day anyway. We watched Aladdin (which I found for sale in our local grocery store even though it's been in the Disney Vault for some time now.). Nobody likes middle eastern food except for, maybe, DH. So, we had baked potatoes with chili and popcorn chicken. We made chocolate chip cookies for dessert and played Bingo again... they sure love to play that while we watch the movies. I didn't take any pictures this time but we didn't decorate or anything to you guys are missing anything big. Stay tuned for next Disney night (either Hercules or Sword in the Stone.. it's my turn and I haven't decided yet.) Until then... :wizard:

Look for an update of this post for pictures later today.

Movie nights have been a really fun thing for us all to get involved in so I would definitely recommend it for your family too! And yes, I do consider myself very lucky to have a husband who isn't to cool or macho to get down and do the Disney thing!

UPDATE!!!

Our reservations have OFFICIALLY been made! September 22-29 at All Star Sports with 8 day park hopper and FREE DINING!!! It seems so much more real now that we have a concrete reservation. YAY for us!! Just wanted to share! Stay tuned for some movie night fun coming soon. Until then... :wizard:

I'm BAAAACK! Sorry it's been so long since I have posted an update but, here I am, posting our Pocahontas Disney Night. We had the girls over and ate a Thanksgiving feast! We had hot turkey sandwiches, mashed potatoes, stuffing, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, and sparkling cider.

After dinner, we turned on the movie and "painted with the colors of the wind". I was so proud of myself that I thought of this! What you do is get a big posterboard, some washable paints, and straws. You put some paint in your straw and then you blow. It makes really cool designs!

I could comment on EVERY post you have made. This is AMAZING

You are an AMAZING sister. I cant ImAGINE what you will do for your own chidlren one day. You guys are going to be amazing parents.

You REALLY lucked out in the husband department. (Hes cute too LOL, but thats beside the point)

Your sisters are super cute and are going to be THRILLED

LOVE all the theme nights. My favorite activity was Painting With The Colors of teh Wind. That just ROCKS

I say GO FOR IT with getting married young, but maybe not as young as I did (I was 17) We have been married for almost 9 years and have had 4 children. We have been through two of the biggest things that cause divorce (money issues and death of a child) and we are still going strong. Not all young couples divorce, and I can look at it this way, when my youngest is 18, I will be only 39 :)

This is an INCREDIBLE trip design (Love the Incredible shirts BTW) and I am super excited for you. Care to adopt 2 neices and a nephew, my kids would LOVE an Aunt like you!:goodvibes

Ok, so apparently by "later today", I meant a week from now haha. Anyway, I'm back with some Disney magic. The last Disney night we did was for the Little Mermaid. Yeah, another theme night and update. How fun to have more people going with you. Do your sisters know yet?

I am planning a trip for next year for me, my kids, mom, dad, little bro, Dsis, and her boyfriend. Only my sis, me and my kids have been. I am very excited about our trip but I also am nervous because they want me to plan everything and have no opinion on what to do.

Thanks for reading along, I love the input and comments! The girls don't know yet (including Ally). I am planning on telling them only a couple of days or the next before the trip. I don't know if the secret will last that long, though because my mom is incapable of lying or hiding anything and my Dad thinks he is so slick. He thinks he can hint around it all he wants without the girls getting wise. He thinks he is being subtle but he might as well say "we are taking you to Disney World." Cross your fingers for me that the secret will be kept until I am ready to reveal it.

As for your next trip, it sounds like a ton of fun and a once in a lifetime affair. Don't worry about the planning. You will naturally figure it out (especially because you are on DisBoards!) You have so much help here in the Dis community, you won't have to plan alone. This has been a LONG, LONG time coming for us and I have had to do everything myself as well (including convincing my Dad to go). If you need help or direction, we are all here to help! Thanks again for hopping aboard the planning train and keep on reading for what I am sure will be some crazy antics.

Thank you for the kind words. As for summer, it's life as usual and it hasnt stopped raining since May. It has rained 19 out of 23 days here. To be fair, I really love the rain and I would be happy if it rained every day. I am excited about the fam coming and think it will be something we will never forget.

So, is there anyone out there who is canceling a reservation at a value from 9/22-9/29? Pretty please? All we can get for my fam is at a moderate and I don't know if that will be doable for them. I check to see if any availability opens up about every 15 minutes but it would be SOOOOO much easier if someone just gave us theirs!! :thumbsup2

Hi everyone. I just wanted to share my new idea for the surprise. I am putting together books for the girls. You can design them anyway you want and then have them printed out like a real book. It is a website I found called blurb. It isn't that expensive and it will be a great keepsake for them to have. I will basically be digitally scrapbooking pictures from our Disney nights to create the book. I have not created any pages for those but I have made 4 from our temple sealing and one from our last Disney trip. I am going to post those pictures and if everyone likes them, I will post the Disney night pages as I get them done.

UPDATE. I found a value resort for my parents and sister. YAY!! We could only get it for the 22-28 but they can get a room only for the last night. This will save a lot of money for them and may mean the difference in them going or not. :woohoo:

I have officially finished the first pages for the girls' books! It is an Incredibles page from our night way back last summer. I used the free kit from MissKim that she put up on her blog on July 1st. It is called What Will You Celebrate. This was the perfect little kit for the Incredibles pages. The lettering is from Happy Place (another great freebie from MissKim). So without further ado... here it is!!

What do you think?

In other news... I have finally succumbed to peer pressure and I made ADR's for our trip. Stay tuned to see where we are eating. Until next time... :wizard:

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n416/SpoonfulofSugr/FishFace.jpg

And, as promised, here are our ADR's (but I am considering trying to get an ADR at Sanaa one day... has anyone eaten there yet? Is it good?):

9/22 CA Grill 8:55pm (we will watch Hallowishes from here)
9/23 Biergarten 1pm
9/23 San Angel Inn 7:15pm
9/25 Yak & Yeti 2pm
9/26 Mama Melrose 1:55pm
9/27 Ohana 5pm
9/28 Boma 7:30am

How does it sound?

I will probably be posting pages throughout the day (hooray for holiday weekends!! They let me do fun things!) but until next time... sending a little magic your way :wizard:

P.S. Stay tuned sometime this week for our next Disney Night... Cars

I have been feeling the same way about my scrapbooking lately. I've really just gotten back into it to get our April Disney trip done but I'm feeling like I am way off from the current scrapping standard. But then when I show my pages to my DH or mom they think they are great, which reminds me that I am doing the scrapbook for my family not all the other scrappers out there.

I really like your pages, I think they have all turned out great and are creative and go well together. I think your sisters will be thrilled with them.

Tell them now. I believe planning and anticipating a trip is half of the fun. Don't take that away from them. It's good for the soul to have something wonderful in the works. Seriously, anticipation is huge, and you don't want them to find out accidentally.

I know alot people use the Mickey Head Paint Samples from either Lowes or Home Depot to make a count down calendar. I have a countdown chain that we use, that I got from another member of the dis. If you would like to see it let me know and I can PM you. One year I took our Christmas Advant Calendar ( it is a wooden box and the doors open up) and taped Disney pictures over top of the christmas pictures and then inside each "box" I put either items or the item on a piece of paper that they would need (sun glasses, new beach towel, disposable camera, laynards, etc,,) and then give them something new each day.

This sounds like exactly what I was thinking of doing. Giving them small things... gum, chapstick, small sunscreen bottles etc... The only thing is, my plan was to give them one thing on each morning they would need for that day (i.e. Typhoon Lagoon=beach towel. Discovery Cove=Disposable waterproof cameras. etc...) I'll have to figure out how to balance it. I also have a really cute idea that I am doing for each day that relates to my other thread. I will be sure to post pictures when I am done with that little project.

That's a good idea. I'm a big advocate of letting them anticipate the trip.

If there are things you want to give them that are too big for the little advent box, you could print off a picture of the item and have them turn them in to get the item when they come over for dinner.

I just started reading your PTR and wanted to say what a great big sister you are to plan such a wonderful surprise for your sisters! This will be such a wonderful memory for them. And how fun with your theme nights. I'm stealing some of your ideas for some theme nights as we lead up to our trip (I'm taking my 3 kids the first week of Sept). I'm planning a Lady and the Tramp night for next week. They haven't seen the movie so I'll rent it for us to watch before dinner, then I'll do the themed dinner for them.

Have fun!

spent my afternoon reading your entire PTR... WOW, you absolutely Hands down win the best sister of the year award!! Your video is fantabulous as well!

My family growing up always had the Disney Plan that always fell through.. so sad.. I was able to take our three kids for our oldests 8th bday in May of 2006 but we only went to MK and my DH didn't get to go so we are trying to plan for a trip sometime in the next 15 months :)

We were suppose to be going to Disney in October but have had to postpone until either February or November of 2010 now...I can SOOOO relate. I have a list of movie nights I started planning last year for my kids so I LOVED to see all of your totally awesome ideas!

Also since I know you are trying to watch money, there is a company called Artscow that you can print your digital scrapbooks through, the prices can't be beat, I've been using them for a little over a year and I have loved everything I've gotten from there. They have a slow shipping rate but honestly for the price its worth the wait :)

I cannot WAIT to read your Trip report when you return from your trip How exciting!!

I actually found all of these online. I have been to Disney only three times and have never seen ANY of these!! So I am excited to see them for myself too!

Such an awesome video...who's idea was it to bury the treasure chest so deep? What were some of the clues you used to get them from location to location? Did they ever start to guess along the way and what were some of their guesses? Sorry for so many questions...

My idea to bury it so deep. I didn't want them to put the shovel in the sand and hit it right away! I didn't have any "clues" really. What I did was cut up the map into pieces. I gave them the first piece which led them to the bakery down the street then, to our friend's house that we kayak at then, to the library where the clue was inside of one fish two fish red fish blue fish then, to Mack and Manco's where we drink Strawberry Cream soda then, to a pavilion on the boardwalk then, to the x. Got all that? They just had to figure it out from the pictures. They had NO guesses what the treasure was but later, Courtney told me she thought it was clothes.

As I wish I could reply to all of your extremely kind comments individually, I just don't have the time and frankly, can't keep up with the positive response. But, I just want to let you all know that I am so grateful for having all of you along on our surprise journey. It means a lot to be able to share it with such wonderful people who understand how amazing this is. So, from the bottom of my heart... THANK YOU!!!!

I stumbled upon your PTR this morning and all I can say is "WOW". You're sisters are 2 lucky girls. I'm so inspired by your enthusiasm and creativity. Walt would snatch you up in a second, I'm sure! You would make an awesome teacher, too.

We have a surprise trip planned for our DS11 in December. I think I might plan some Disney movie nights between now and then. I'm sure he'll love that...what pre-teen boy wouldn't? :lmao:

Hope your trip is perfect!

To all of you who have been "inspired" by what I have been doing... thank you but it really wasn't that much. The Disney "magic" really does speak volumes to our hearts as Disney fans.

I have had many people tell me they will be there at the same time. How should I identify myself in the parks just in case someone wants to come up and say hi (which would be GREAT!!!! by the way) Even my husband is telling me to wear an all lime green outfit so you all know who I am haha. So, aside from being adorned head to toe in a blinding color, what should I do?

I know a lot of people go to Home Depot and get the Alien Green Mickey head paint swatches. You could laminate a few and wear them on your bag, etc!

WOW! I have been one of your earlier followers, and I am so glad to see that you are soon coming up to your day of travel! I hope the trip is wonderful for you, and everything you hope for.

Years from now, your entire family will be so appreciative of the video, too. A lasting reminder of happy family memories.

Good for you!

Hello everyone. I just wanted to post a couple pictures of the bags we put together for the girls. I bought Vera Bradley hipsters online. I got them from RueLaLa... It's a website that sells designer clothes and the like at DEEP discounts. They are normally about 60 dollars but i got them for 27 each. Inside, we gave them each sunscreen, gum, bath and body works hand sanitizer, Co. Bigelow mentha lip balm, a poncho, a glow necklace, glow bracelets, and a glow wand. They will also be getting goggles, a beach towel, 10 pins for trading, and 200 dollars in spending money.

Hi everybody. Only 14 more days!!! I am not as excited as I could be since I am working a RIDICULOUS amount of hours to get some more moola for the trip but I can't believe it is so close! So, I came in to work today and Len Testa TOTALLY commented on our surprise video on youtube. Awesome. hehe. He even got the Colors of the Wind thing with the paint. 10 Points to Len for catching that!

I was planning a surprise golf game at the Palm for my Dad and DH but my sis. let the surprise slip to my DH. BOO :sad2: Apparently I am incapable of planning a surprise effectively haha. Well, at least I THOUGHT the girls knew about Disney. They say they didn't but I think they are lying to make us feel better haha. Anyway, until next time... :wizard:

So I came across your video which lead to your pre-trip post which than lead to many wasted hours at work reading all the pages:lmao:. Anyway I recently read your post about the bags and $200. You really have set the bar high for those of us who would like to take family members on our trips in the future haven't you? I just want to commend you for working so hard both in planning and in actual work to make this trip so special for all those involved.

Thank you so much for allowing us to "go along" with you on this trip. It has been SO much fun reading all your posts and planning. I can't wait to see the trip report. These girls are going to have the time of their lives. I can't thank you enough, I really wanted to take our 4 kids to disney again this year but money is tight and the right choice was made to hold off and go next year. I was really sad but this has made the choice of not going easier. THanks again and enjoy your trip.:littleangel:

We are sitting in the airport right now!! Our flight leaves in an hour. I can't believe it's finally here! The girls got their bags and loved everything inside... especially the 200 dollars spending money :lmao: I need to locate the Disney Outlet down there so they can get more bang for their buck. Also, a Home Depot because I forgot my Dis ID. Wish us a good time!!! We will keep you updated!!!

There are 2 Home Depots close to WDW:

2601 W Vine St, Kissimmee, FL
&
1651 S Poinciana Blvd, Kissimmee, FL

I believe that the Disney outlet is in the Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores, @ 15657 S Apopka Vineland Rd, Orlando, FL.

Have a great trip! You really deserve it!

Hi everyone. We have been back for a LONG time but I still havent done a TR. I will start working on it tonight... get your popcorn ready!

I just found your PTR because it was bumped to the top of the list, and I am now reading through it! I'm happy to know that the TR will be written soon too! I love the fact that you brought your 2 sisters. I think that's such a sweet idea! I can't quite bring my younger bro with me due to financial reasons. Plus, we don't always get along. But next April when I go with my family, my DBF is coming along with us so we're thinking about maybe going to DHS for a day with him (my parents have no interest in DHS). I wish I had a big sister like you :D

How cool!!
