Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Hi everyone! Happy Saturday!
Today is DS's 15th Birthday! He is busy packing for Boy Scout Camp where he'll be away at one camp working on Merit Badges this coming week. We will then pick him up on Saturday and drop him off at another Boy Scout Camp the day after for another week of Merit Badge work. He has 4 remaining Merit Badges to attain before turning his sites on an Eagle Project.
I went out on a run this morning around 10 AM (way too late and hot, but I had to get out to run). I had to wait until a plumber came and cleared a drain for us before I could go running today. Lots of fun.
Here are my results from the run earlier. It was extremely hot and humid...so I took it easy and didn't try to get any 8 minute miles or better today. I just wanted to get the miles in.
Miles: 8.1
Time: 1:21:58
Pace: 10:14
Splits:
9:24
9:58
9:19
10:08
11:18
11:26
10:23
9:59
Debra: I came in 16th in my AG in the 5K... not too bad, but then again not in the top 10 like I thought. :confused3

Well, no training for me today. However, if you'd have seen me leaving the farmer's market this morning you would have thought I had been doing something strenous. Unfortunatley, it was just very hot and humid today--no wonder a nasty thunderstorm came rolling through this afternoon. Will try to get something in tomorrow, but no promises
Debra--yes, DD will either love physical activity or be completely against it. She's at the gym with me at least 4 times a week, either b/c I"m working or working out. But for right now it's a win-win for both of us b/c mommy training = happy mommy= more disney trips for her.

GOOD MORNING TEAM!!!
Howard: tell DD -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Way to go in the run so late in the morning.
Stephanie: HI  Hopefully you got your training in today.
Jeff: AS ususal the pictures are beautiful and make me want to run away to some tropical island!!!
As for me, Had the alarm set, the clothes set out, good to go but woke up to thunderstorms!!!! :headache: Hoping they pass through and will get the run in tonight. Set to try 8. The good news is DH was on duty this am so I would have gone by myself - which could spell trouble - since I have no self control. But since I will go tonight he will be with me and will probably be a more sane run!!
I will let you guys know how it goes.

Just went back to last page of last week's thread.
Debra Funny you should ask about the training plan because trying to pick one actually has me a little stressed out  Still looking just know that I want to start "officially" working toward the marathon in August - 6 months out. DH is doing amazing, thanks for asking. He has been doing LR on weekends anywhere from 8 to 10. I am however forcing him to fall back with me because I really need the motivation right now!!!

Good morning WISHers!
Trying to get motivated this morning. No training to report.
Howard - WTG with the 8 miler! Hope the DS has fun at camp.
Jeff - Great pics!
Angie - Hope you can get your run in this evening. I was in Tampa last week and got in only one run due to thunderstorms. I really think I need to become a morning runner.

Happy Sunday, WISH'ers!
I am happy to say that I actually went out for a run, albeit a short one. (Dontcha just love words like "albeit"?) Given my recent travails (Ooh, another one!) with my knees and what I have figured out to be strained abductor/hip muscles, I have been mostly missing on the run scene. Today I switched back to my old shoes (which still had some miles left on them) and foam rollered before I went out.
I made it 2.5 miles--not far, but relatively discomfort-free. I stopped to walk a little--big mistake! When I started back up, I felt the right hip/knee stuff flare up. So I walked home. But 2.5 miles is a big improvement from the <.5 miles I could manage on Thursday.
So I think I'll keep up with the rollering in advance of the run (Deb thanks for asking about the rollering), and the old shoes and maybe an IT band strap on my right side, take it slow and hope for the best. And since I need to XT, and maybe one day next season do a tri, I gave in to my consumer dark side and bough a new bike yesterday! Got a 2007 Trek 1600 WSD (Women Specific). The only down side--those tight fitting bike shorts--I don't look good in compression shorts. But it appears they make bike skirts! Maybe I'll have to try one.
So have a great day everyone. Off to watch the TDF, do laundry, buy groceries, work on next year's high school student directory, and--if my DH swaps the pedals on my bike--go out for a ride with him--if he can go that slow!

Maura--congrats on the 2.5!:thumbsup2 And more congrats on the new bike--color me jealous!
Angie--hope you can get your run in tonight. Don't ya love the summer thunderstorms? I got caught in one yesterday and was stuck in Walmart for a half hour waiting it out, the lightening was so bad!
Well, I gave in and got on our home TM. I hate it, but what else am I to do on a rainy day and no morning daycare at the gym (and the afternoon daycare is staffed by none of than yours truly!) I really believe that our TM isn't calibrated right b/c it's always so much more of a struggle here than on any other TM and especially out on the road. But that being said, I stayed on for 40 minutes and logged 3.75 miles-no land speed records by any means, but it's something, right?
Off to the showers!

Howard: Happy Birthday and have fun for your Scout! Good job on getting the miles in. Your pace would be zippy for me! (*whispers*I blame it on the humidity)
Stephanie: I hear ya on the humidity! Good job on getting the dreadmill miles in.
Jeff: Wow that's pretty!
Angie:Well maybe the rain will cool it down some.
Maura: Nice word usage! Sorry about the pain, but good job on the 2.5 miles. Lucky you on the bike! ...skirts and bikes...hmmm
:surfweb:
I went for a short run this morning along with some drill work. I stopped by our mascot's cage--Mike the Tiger! He decided to play with his giant ball in the water and it was hilarious! I'll probably do some strength training later and maybe a short swim.

Reposting on the weekly thread for all my WISH friends...
To Go Further
As a child I used to go to the beach, and dig a hole. A deep hole. My goal was generally to dig a hole to China.
Now that I'm grown, I realize that flying there is significantly easier.
So I had to find something more difficult to challenge myself with.
A 2.4 mile swim.
A 112 mile bike ride.
Then.
A 26.2 mile marathon.
In 17 hours.
Ironman China.
Haikou, Hainan Island.
April 19th, 2009.
(that and I had to blatantly show off my new siggy)
Off to my long run, I'm feeling motivated all of a sudden. ;)

Matt: Wow an Ironman in China!! I hope the air quality will stay in the good range like it is supposed to be for the Olympics!!
Angie: Sorry to hear about the morning run put on hold. I had the same experience this morning.
Maura: Lovin the new bike purchase, enjoy the Cross training and congrats on doing another tri!
Jeff: Love those photos!! You and you family are sooo cute!!
As for me, the weather was lookin iffy this morning when I got up to my alarm at 5:45am. Kept checking the weather channel and Satellite, but was showing rain and I heard some thunder. SO I waited to hear from my sister and went over to her house to do my 10miles. I forgot how much I hate TMs. I can really only for about 5-6 miles on it before I get bored. I was bored at 5 miles. I also don't think her TM is calibrated right, the miles and time didn't seem the match right. I always hate the feeling when you get off of it after a long time and you still feel like you are moving. SO rest and chocalate milk on tap for today!!

Hey, everybody, doing my monthly check-in. ;) Tomorrow I will be 36 weeks and I'm starting to get a little freaked out. :scared1: I keep going back and forth from being incredibly excited and extremely nervous. I wasn't nervous until we went to the childbirth class 2 weeks ago--that made it very real, plus I learned what an epidural really is. All I can say is :faint: :faint: :faint:. Of course I haven't been training at all--the baby is sitting right on my diaphargm and I get out of breath going up and down the stairs, but I started getting my stuff together for the hosptial and I just put the last load of baby laundry in the dryer. I can't believe how incredibly giving everyone has been, the baby has a closet and an armoire full of clothes and I think I've only bought maybe 5 things. And we have everything we need for the baby, we have very few things to buy--mostly things like more bottles, sheets--stuff like that. We have everything we HAVE to have. So physically we are ready for the baby--not so sure about mentally or emotionally, but are you ever really READY for a baby to come? :)
Even though I haven't been posting, I have been lurking and trying to stay caught up with everyone. I know I missed some stuff, but hopefully not too much!
Debra--:wizard: :wizard: for your dad!! I hope things are going well for him. Are you settled into your new apartment? Oh, and is Pittsburgh going nuts with the Rooney's trying to sell the Steelers? I was shocked when I heard that last week.
Carrie--Continued :wizard: for your FIL. I saw that he finished his chemo treatments. How is he feeling? How is your tri training going? When is it again? I heard that you and Stephen have been doing lots of tri talking. Right now he's upstairs sleeping after his sprint tri this morning. This was his 3rd tri in 3 weeks--2 olympic distances and then today's sprint.
Kristi--I love the Indy cake! That's awesome! And the monkey brains looked great (is that weird to say??). Have you been able to keep up with training?
Angie--I hope you're able to get your run in tonight! We've been getting a lot of storms this summer, but I'm not complaining, last year we were in draught--that was not pleasant.
Matt--Ironman China?? That's awesome! Do you already know where you are getting your M-Dot tatoo? :thumbsup2 Last fall Stephen was planning on doing the Bentonville Harbor Half Ironman in August, until we found out it was the weekend before my due date!
Howard--:bday: to Andrew! It's great to know another Cancer--my birthday is this Saturday, however I will be much older than he is! Have you started your official MCM training yet? Oh, wait, it's not October yet. ;)
Cam--How is your VR planning coming along? I know you are getting so excited!! I remember you said something about the possiblity of Jen getting engaged soon--did that happen yet?
Kevin--:wizard: for your sciata!!! You better take care of that before Goofy training officially begins!!
Judy-- I posted just for you so you could see Hines in his Sorcerer Mickey hat! :goodvibes
To everyone I missed--
I better keep working on the laundry, I'm trying to keep up on all the housework so I don't fall too far behind once the baby gets here. This week I plan on start making and freezing meals for after the baby is born. I know I won't feel like cooking and even though Stephen does cook, I know he'll be more inclined to make a McDonald's run or call Domino's than to cook dinner after working all day. Even though my pregnancy has been a free-for-all for eating, once he is born, it's back to healthy foods and counting calories. I want to get skinny again fast!! I'll try to keep up with everyone and we'll definitely let you know when the baby is born. Depending on how coherent I am, I plan on taking the laptop with us to the hospital, so hopefully I'll be able to post while we're waiting and of course Stephen will post pics once he is here.
Keep up with training, January will be here before we know it!

Hey team! Like my DW, I wanted to do my monthly check-in. :) Sorry I've been so absent. I really have tried to keep up with the threads, but they've gotten the better of me. I've managed to somewhat keep up with my Rabbits team (of course, I had to give a shout out to the Rabbits :thumbsup2 ), but I have been pretty absent on here. Sorry about that. I'm going to make a real effort to keep up for awhile.
Having said that, I haven't gotten a chance to read last week's thread. I'm going to try to accomplish that this evening. We've been pretty busy lately with the baby on the way. Like Krista said, I think we're "physically" ready for him, but I'm not going to kid you--emotionally and mentally, we're just cruising along on Cloud 9, unaware that this cloud is going to crash us right into a wall. ;) No, don't get me wrong--I know it will be GREAT, but I'm not naive that this will be life-changing as well. So WISH us luck!
I've been pretty busy racing the last month. I just finished my third triathlon in three weeks today. It's been great, and I'm feeling really comfortable with the whole tri thing this year, but I'm pretty worn out and ready for a little break of some normal training. I guess I was just trying to squeeze in as many races as possible prior to the baby. :)
HI to all and I hope to really catch up with you guys this week. Hope everyone had a great weekend! Talk to you all soon!
Steve
PS--Matt, you're a machine! A crazy, sadistic machine, but a machine nonetheless. Congrats on signing up for IM China!

All I can say is wow  ! A Chinese Tri. I pride myself in knowing where most places are, but you stumped me with Hainan Island, so I looked it up. Okay, now I know it's the big island East of what people my age call North Vietnam.
Krista and Steve
It is good to see you both. I know you're ready for what's to come. We found, unfortunately, that babies did not come with a set of instructions, so we made it up as we went along. I do so wish you three (+ Hines) well. About the epidural, well as a male I never have experienced one, but a dear friend of ours thinks they are the most wonderful things ever, and hopes the inventor is rich and happy for this good deed.
After saying hello to everyone as a group, the rest of this is a pity party for me. I tore my left calf muscle in April 2004, and reinjured it several times in the succeeding years, but I seemed to have it under control, as my last tear was 2 full years ago. That is until today. I was running easy and comfortably and it unraveled on me again. The exact same spot in the same muscle, every time. And it felt the same way when it tore.
So now I'm on IR for a couple of weeks, then at least 2 months of rehab and easy running before I can even think about running any distance and pace. I'm glad this didn't happen before the Minnie 15K and ruin that wonderful weekend, and that I have time before the Tower of Terror and Goofy, but my goals for both races are now gone. I was even going to sign up for the October BAA half marathon Wednesday when registration opened. Blam, all gone in literally 10 seconds when it went from just fine to torn :guilty: .
I'll be there on October 25 and January 10 and 11, I can guarantee that, but sadly not much else. As the races get closer I'll have a feel for my likely result, and see if anyone would like having me on their shoulder for the races. It is always more fun to run with someone else, isn't it?

Craig: oooouuuu, ouch!! I'm in pain just reading your story. Sorry to hear that it tore again. Wow, I just can't imagine coming back from that many times over....nothing else can be done?? I walk so you may not like my time getting you over the finish line, so maybe find a runner. Hmmmm... I suggest ScoJo, he seems like he would be able to handle that for you.
Good luck with the recovery and rehab. Keep your head up!!

Matt - IM China! That's awesome!
Craig - I'm so sorry to hear about your calf. It really sucks when you have your plans all set and an injury for no apparent reason. Hope you mend quickly.
Krista and Steve - good to see you posting. Hope everything goes quickly (no long labor). I kn ow you're so excited. Do you have any names picked out? Steve, congrats on your tri's!
Kudos to those who got to work out today.
Sending :wizard: to those (or family members) who are nursing injuries.
Today I completed my 1st duathlon. It was the Philadelphia Women's Triathlon/Duathlon. I did ok. It was hot and humid. My goal time was 2:30. Didn't quite make it. But I think it was due to my stupidity than physically not be able to make that time. I think I lost about 10-15 minutes due to my mechanical difficulties on the bike. Got lots of comments about my WISH shirt and got a nice little piece of bling.
Here are my splits:
2 mile run 27:07 (13:34 pace)
T1 3:34
17 mile bike 1:21:52
T2 3:08
5K run 49:20 (15:55 pace)
Overall time: 2:44:58
Here's a good reason why you should train with the equipment you're going to race with:
I have not ridden my bike outdoors since I injured my achilles last year. All of my training has been on my spinner. So today, I'm on the bike and try to shift gears and it won't shift. Nothing. I ride the whole first lap (of 2) in a single gear. I felt like I was pedaling and not going anywhere fast. Finally, near the end of the lap I get to the bike support vehichle and ask him to check it out. Had to wait while he changed someone's flat. Well, turns out I have 2 shift levers. The one I was tring that wouldn't shift and the other is on my brake lever. Instead of squeezing it to brake, I have to push it to the side to shift. As soon as he said it, I remembered. I was so embarrassed :o See what happens when you don't do things often enough?

Craig, take care of that calf. You'll be back at it in due time.
Steve and Krista (oh yeah, Hines too). Good luck with the new baby and all the life changes. Yeah, it's going to be way different. One piece of advice, when the baby sleeps, you sleep. Forget the dishes, laundry, vacuuming. Just get your rest when you can.
It was 87 degrees out during my run, very light trade winds. 14 miles total at 10:02 average pace. Miles 12 & 13 were not good. A bit of cramping in the calf and quads. Opted to walk part of the way, just so not to overheat and bonk on the way in.
At lunch right after the run and hydrated with a Coke and water, so I immediately felt better. Came home to ice bath, and will do some tennis ball work to loosen up the sore spots. I think a nap was earned today! :snooty:
Have a great Sunday afternoon/evening Team WISH.

Craig: Please take whatever steps are necessary to let your muscle heal and don't worry about being on the IR list. You have to give the injury the respect it deserves and wait it out patiently. I know that isn't one of your stronger points... you've told me that. I hope you are back in shape for Goofy 2009 or before. Keep me and us all posted.
Krista: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I am a Cancer too! June 23 here! Good luck as your clock ticks down to the big day. In my mind I have begun to train for MCM already. I am using a slightly elongated training schedule for a marathon, so it has begun! I think there were 5 or 6 weeks I copied from the front of the schedule and pasted it to the front of the schedule. Then I bumped up some of the miles a bit on the back end and down a bit on the begining since I was just getting back into it after almost 2 years off from "training". Yes, I know how quaint ---- Howard is actually training! :cool1: :cheer2: :yay: :dance3:
Terri: Great job on your Dualathon... I am impressed with your desire to excel and the high standards you hold yourself to. I just know you'll improve on that time in the future.
Matt: You are :upsidedow I will enjoy hearing about the competition in China. It is a lofty goal, one I will never take on. I am trying to fend off a plea from Charlie (Yes, Charlie!) to run an Ultra (50 Miler) in Fall 2009 up in the Finger Lakes area of New York.
Vic: Hi and Thanks! The Boy Scout Camp I too Andrew to was a bit over 108 miles from here in Maryland (Henson Scout Reserve). After the ride down and back, my plans to get in a few miles today magically floated away. :confused3 (Too tired!)
Jeff: I gave my future Eagle, Andrew, your message. He is looking forward to finishing up two merit badges this week and two next week. It will be a relief when the Eagle Project is determined and successfully pulled off .

Craig--please take care of yourself! I need to know that Scott and I will see you somewhere along the course of the 1/2 in January:thumbsup2
Krista and Steve--Wow, 36 weeks already! It seems like just the other day you guys were announcing the impending arrival of the little one. Krista--take it easy these next few weeks. Don't stress yourself out over the little details; you'll have plenty of help with food/cleaning once the little one is born. I'll be thinking of you both (and of course Hines) wishing you a speedy and easy delivery (and hopefully on time, speaking from one that took her suitcase to the dr.s office at 41 weeks--I was not leaving w/o my child out of my body!:rolleyes1 ) And yes, those epidurals are heavenly, with DS I wanted it hooked up at the first OB visit--dr. didn't think that was so funny

GOOD EVENING TEAM
Just wanted to report that I did get out there tonight after all. It was ugly and I only made it 7.5 miles and that is all I am going to say about it because for months a I have been nothing but a downer on these boards :headache:
I do not have time to respond to everyone but I do have to say:
Craig:grouphug: :grouphug: I really wish I could give you words of wisdom and encouragement that would even come close to all of those that you have given me and many other people on these boards, unfortunately I am an engineer and only do well with numbers and equations. I will give it my best though. I will tell you that I am so very sorry for you, as someone who is still, even today battling an injury that I can't seem to get completely under control, I am completely understand but then I don't. Does that make any sense. We empathize with you and we are here for you and your positive attitude anyway is such an inspiration. Keep true to your plan and keep us up to date.
Krista and STeve I am so excited for you guys!!!!!! YEAH!!! so close :dance3: BTW - Epidural means heaven I don't care what anyone says :thumbsup2

Hey everyone!
I posted a race report from my first race this past friday over in that thread. I came in 2nd in my age group. The heat and the atmosphere kind of spooked me so it wasn't as fast as some of my practice runs. It was a great experience and my next race is this coming saturday.
So after a day off post race yesterday. I ran 4 miles and did a .5 mile warm up/cool down. It was 9:00, 9:20, 9:45, 10:00 split. All and all about a 45 minute work out.

Hi everyone! I have only been checking in from time to time. I had to drive down to the Boston area from Maine for 2 days Thurs-Saturday to send my 16-year-old off for 4 weeks to Spain, and have a family meeting. Hannah is doing a teen language program and was super-excited - she arrived in Spain safely, and hopefully we'll hear from her again a couple of times during the trip. My family meeting was about trying to hold onto a wonderful property that has been in my family for about 80 years (we need some kind of financial magic!).
I have really enjoyed running up here - the weather has been great.
Krista & Steve - You are about to have the most amazing journey of your life! Jeff's advice is terrific - sleep when the baby sleeps and let other things go. (and in 16 years you'll be sending them off to Spain!)
Craig - So sorry about the injury. Take care of yourself and let it heal.
And Matt - You rock! That Ironman sounds unbelievable!
And hello to everyone else as well!

Just wanted to check in real quick - been busy lately. I joined a Marathon training program through my local running store and my running club. The first long run was this Saturday. I had to get up at 5AM so I could be at the store by 5:45 to sign in and be ready to get started at 6AM. I only did 4 miles and one of the coaches ran back to the store with me (I did the 4 miles in 46 mins so I guess it wasn't too bad) The coach gave me some good tips that I will have to remember. I won't be doing the long run next week or the week after (next week I am taking a quick/cheap trip to WDW and the next week I am doing a 5k in the evening so it wouldn't be wise to do 4-5 miles in the AM and then a 5k later.) So as for now I have official started on my marathon training. Planning on doing a 1/2 marathon in November.
Krista and Steve - I can't believe the baby is almost here - congrats to both of you!!!
Matt - Wow an Ironman in China - sounds very cool

What's that pain drug that makes you feel drunk? That was good. ;)

Krista - Happy belated b-day!!! WHile teh chemo is over, it's day 3. The worst part is supposed to hit days 5 to 15. MIL didnt't post how fil is feeling, but I'm guessing he's pretty tired. He's likely up for a transfusion today. The chemo hits hard, but the worst part deosn't hit until teh cell counts hit rock bottom. TW, if you weren't worried abou tthe baby, I'd think somethign was wrong with you! ;) I know you will be a great parent, though. Oh, my tri is on the 26th. :scared1:
Steve - 3 events in 3 weeks?? I am thinking tri's don't hit your body as hard as full marathons, though. MAybe not even as hard as halfs. Not that they're easy, just that there's less pounding. WHo am I to say, though. I'll see if that's a farce in a couple weeks.
Craig - :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: and :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:
Terri - COngrats on teh duathlon!!! Sorry about the technical difficulties!
Angie - GOod to see you! WTG on the work outs!
Maura - I'm just gonna throw a skirt over my tri suit to cover what the suit doesn't. ;) OCngrats on teh new bike and your 2.5 miles.
Debra - Things are going well, but fil has a ways to go. The hardst stuff is supposed to hit in 2 to 12 days. :guilty: Thanks fo thinking of us! HOpe you had an ice cream filled weekend!
I worked my tail off all weekend (rocks, power cleaned teh car for 3 hours, laundry), but have no work outs to show. Bad me. My lbody is tired today, though, so maybe that was good. This is our last week before tri taper. Of course, I'll eb out of town tonight adn home late tomorrow. Gives dh time to rest, though.
HApy day, I found my yoga cd while cleaning out my car! AYa, now I can do my instructor's workout on my time. Going to try to do that tomorrow.

Greetings Race Team -
I did 45 on the TM this morning, which I haven't done in quite a while. :thumbsup2 I am dialing back a bit on my pace and going for longer times.
Howard - Now, I was on the phone with Cam yesterday and she said nothing at all about any birthdays. Please tell Andrew Aunt Judy sends him Belated Birthday WISHES!! :cake: Oh wow, you're actually going to TRAIN for an event!!!??!! BTW, you know all your "fending off" in the world is absolutely futile. :rolleyes1
Angie - Oh I am so happy to see you here! I was just thinking about you.
Matt - Oh Matt, I have no words. I am too in awe. :worship: You WILDMAN you!!! :woohoo:
Krista - Aww, thanks for the Hines pic! You know I missed him!:cloud9: Very early Happy Birthday! :cake:
Steve - Ahh, we'll let you slide this time. ;) I know you've got other things to do right now besides post. Three tri's in three weeks?? I'm putting you in the Wildman category too!! :woohoo:
Craig - Oh no, Craig!   Oh no..... I don't know what to say except maybe it might help if Martha gently massaged it once a day.... ;) Seriously, my heart goes out to you.
Terri - Cool! Congratulations!! :thumbsup2 And, um,, yeah..... brake...shift......yeah..... I knew that. Not! Ha ha ha! :lmao:
WellesleyPrincess - Congratulations!! :woohoo: Second in your age group - Fab-u-lous! :thumbsup2

Craig Sorry to hear about your calf. I hope you heal quickly. So now maybe I can keep up with you at the 1/2! ;) At the very least, maybe we can lead the gimpy bunch!
Carrie Good luck on the upcoming tri. I have put tri thoughts out of my mind for now because the part I thought I would have the least problem with (the run) is so iffy at this point. But I at least can get the feel of my bike and who know, maybe something later in the year.
Wellesleyprincess, Terri Congrats on your races! I think you should both be proud of your results and the fact that you each learned something that will make your next ones even better.
Angie When I read your posts, I feel like I'm reading my own! Keep positive thoughts about your nagging injuries. I know it's hard (and I am trying to take my own advice!) I'm sure you will bounceback and train well for the marathon in January. We just need to not rush these things, which is very hard to do. Also, you may appreciate this since you're an engineer, too (although I no longer work in the field) I find that I am approaching my recovery as a series of experiments in which single or multiple factors are varied, data recorded and results analyzed! Now if I could just get some repeated good results!

Howard: Happy belated birthday to you (again, I believe) and to your DS! He's really close to getting his Eagle Scout designation! That's such an honor and sign of dedication. Does he have a project in mind? You did a great job on your 8+ miler in the humidity. And FWIW, I think your AG placement in your last 5K was terrific! :thumbsup2
Stephanie: What daughter doesn't love a happy mommy? Especially if you get more mother/daughter time, in or outside of Disney! ::yes:: Congrats on getting your miles in on your TM. In many ways, that sounds like it was more challenging than being outdoors, or at least less satisfying. Hopefully your humid weather has abated somewhat, and you can enjoy the outdoors without feeling drenched even without any physical exertion.
Aloha Jeff: I can SO see you as an Eagle Scout. You really live those values, I can tell. How do you like geocaching. It's something I've wanted to try for a long time. It must be particularly fun with scenery like yours. Good job with your run and avoiding overheating. A coke and an ice bath, but no ice cream? Hmmm, it seems like something's missing from your routine. ;)
Angie: Sorry to hear your 7.5 miler was frustrating. But I hope you thought of DH, and all our voices, cheering you on. :cheer2: Remember if you hear our voices with you all the time that it doesn't mean you're schizophrenic. You've just been listening very carefully to the wisdom of our various WISH gurus! I'm happy to hear DH is doing well, too. Running with you is probably just as healthy for him as it is for you.
Vic: Hope you're finding your motivation. Are you ready to report for fitness duty today?
Maura: Oh, I'm such a word nerd. I love albeit and travails. They're such pretty-sounding words, filled with assonance! And you know what I love hearing even more. That you were able to do 2.5 miles nearly discomfort free! :woohoo: It sounds like using the foam roller before the run worked out well for you. Good that you're going to keep it up. Yay for your new bike! I hope the XT will not only prepare you for a tri, but will help with your running. I must have missed the news about your tri plans for this season, and assume your injury has caused you to postpone any events?? Well, at least you've got the bike and have plenty of time to find the right pair of shorts/skirt. Oooh, more gear shopping!
Claire: All right, this is a stupid question. Mike the tiger is a real tiger? That would explain why you didn't just jump in the water and enjoy a swim with the frisky feline.
Matt: :worship: :worship: On your Ironman China. Very cool siggy. Congratulations on dedicating yourself to the event!! But does this mean you've really given up on your hole-digging plans? Quitter. :rotfl:
Racey Tracy: Sooooo, it sounds like you were missing Mount Trashmore. As far as calibration, maybe the TM feels neglected, so it's trying to get you to stay on longer? :confused3
Krista: Thanks for the thoughts about my dad--he's making a decision today, and we're hoping for the best. Pgh is all atwitter (how's that for a word, Maura?) about the Steelers. It's so strange here, how everyone really values the family businesses even with huge industries/corporations. It's a very similar reaction to the Kennywood sale, almost as if it would be a betrayal of the city/residents if the Rooneys didn't maintain a dominant % of the Steelers. Can you or Steve explain that to me?
But more important than that trivial news is your news with Carter. I can't believe how soon the big day is approaching. Are you all done with baby showers? What's been your favorite gift? What still needs to be done? OH, and do we have a baby pool going here?
And lest I forget on Saturday: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
Steve: Good luck to both you and Krista with Carter, and woo hoo as well. :woohoo: I can hear how excited both of you are--and that you're both ready to be overwhelmed with love and new adventures. Hines is probably almost as excited as you two. You're going to be great parents, all three of you! :lmao: Congrats on your 3rd--3rd??? wow!--triathlon. That's training for the endurance test of parenthood, at least as close as you can get.
Craig: I don't know if I knew the full story about your left calf and the recurrent injuries. pixiedust: and  to you. I hope your IR time is short, your rehab uneventful, and your return to racing more enjoyable than you can imagine right now. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for you, a lifelong and competitive athlete, to go through this injury repeatedly and to be sidelined from activities that bring you such joy. Please know that I--that all of us--are thinking of you and WISHing the best for you. You have been a mentor to me, a source of information and support, and I hope in some small way to be there for you during this time. Know that I would be proud to be by your side in October or January, if that was a possibility and will be cheering you on every step of the way during your recovery, training, and races. :cheer2:
Terri: Congratulations on your first duathlon. :thumbsup2 I know you're disappointed at missing your goal time, but it sounds like you've made a good assessment of your performance and abilities that will serve you well for the next one. See...I assume there will be a next one. :cool2: Your story about training on your equipment is a sound piece of advice for everyone. Thanks for sharing it! (And I don't think you have anything to be embarrassed about. Instead, you should be proud of your accomplishment. And the fact that you're willing to share information speaks of your support for all WISHers, that you're more about challenging yourself & others and ego-driven. Very cool.)
Ang: I'm so glad you speak highly of epidurals, especially for Krista's sake. But I think I'll take your word for it and pass on the experience. I'd rather run a few, heck a lot, of miles. :rotfl: Wow, 6 months already? I bet your DS has grown an incredible amount!
Kristi and Stephanie: See what I said to Ang. I'll let the voices of wisdom speak for the benefits of the epidural. The thought makes me shudder.
Jennifer/wellesleyprincess: Wow--2nd in your AG. That's terrific. And right back on track yesterday, with good solid splits. That's doubly terrific. I need to go read your RR. I hope you feel good about your performance, even if you weren't as speedy as your practice runs. You gained valuable experience for the next time--this Saturday (whoa)! :thumbsup2
Kira: Wow, your DD is going to Spain for a month. Adopt me...please! I can't help you with your financial magic--no head for numbers--but here's PD for you and your family. I hope you get to keep a place that must hold lots of memories for your family.
Tricia: Yay for starting your Disney marathon training already. (I meant to do so, too, and now I'm behind schedule!) Are you enjoying your training program and local running club? It sounds really early to be out on the road--for the heat I'm sure--but also like you're getting good information. How do you like running with the club's members, or is it too early to tell? Oh, and have a great time at WDW--ignore my green-with-envy post. :teeth:
Carrie: Chemo can really knock the wind out of people. For me, it was the combination of being tired and losing my appetite about a week into each cycle, then again 3 weeks into the rest period. I hope your FIL has a relatively easy time of it. It's good to know he's got so many people in his corner, and I'm sure he's grateful for the support. Wow, your tri is coming right up! How are you feeling about that? I suppose it's good to have that goal in sight and something to concentrate on. You know, any time you want to come to Pgh and wash my car, etc., you can feel free to do so. It'd give you something new to think about, I'm sure. Especially because my car and house are probably a disaster area compared to yours! :scared1:
Judy: Yay for 45 minutes on a TM. That's quite an accomplishment, especially on a TM. How does it feel to be concentrating on distance?
As for me: Stonker run today. I've been concentrating on building speed, which has the odd effect of taking the fun out of run for me. So I'm going to go back to my running schedule and try to find some balance in my pre-marathon training plan. I'm also reconsidering a RW program for January, as I notice my times are better with walk breaks. I've not looked seriously at Galloway, but intend to do so. Any reading recommendations?

Jeff - Beautiful pics! You're hired as my tour guide should I ever make it back to the islands!
Matt - IM China! You Go! :cheer2: I just did a sprint tri that almost killed me...I can't even imagine that distance! Happy training!
Steve - Speaking of tri's...3 in 3 weeks?!?! :faint: WTG!
Tracy - I'm right there with you on the dislike of the TM. I get totally unmotivated at about 3 miles. At least outside I'm motivated by the fact that I still need to get home at some point! :rotfl:
Terri - Sorry to hear about the bike "problems." I was just waiting for something bad to happen on my bike this weekend because it started clicking. It never did (except for my time) so I'll have to have it looked at as well. It'll probably end up being like your issue!
Krista - Take Jeff's advice...sleep when the baby sleeps! Best advice ever (that I did not take.)
Carrie - :goodvibes :wizard: :yay: :cheer2: for your upcoming tri!
Debra - I agree...just the thought of the epidural makes me shudder! My OB was under strict instructions to not even say the word to me!
I did my second tri this weekend. While I was very disappointed in myself and my time, at least I finished and it did not kill my spirit to try another one. The good news is that I talked DH into doing it as well. He had so much fun! I think I finally have him hooked! :woohoo:

GOOD EVENING TEAM!!
No training for me today as that horrible run left me wracked with pain and once again questioning my body's ability to hold up for the full 26.2 but then as usual I get on here and read encouraging posts and I feel like maybe I can do it. I really think my little "speed work" on the treadmill last Tuesday was yet another one of my times of too much too soon.
Anyway I definately don't have time to respond to everyone but I do want to say:
Thank you to everyone who remember me and welcomed me back!!
Maura thank you for the encouraging words. Honestly you will never know how badly I needed to hear them after the sleepless night I had last night wondering if I can even do this. And yes I am constantly weighing factors and results. The thing that is so frustrating is that my entire body is so ready for the training except my hip/knee.
As for the epidural: I had mine after 24 hours of hard labor I was still at a 2  and was developing a fever, I would have taken ANYTHING the doctor was handing out. :upsidedow IT was PURE heaven!!! And in all the women I have known to have them I have not known one to have a single side effect except a painless birth.
So: I am hoping to take my bodyflow (yoga/pilates) at gym tomorrow and just do a few easy miles on TM after. I will let you guys know how it goes.

Hey team -just a little shorty to let you all know that my trusty partner (dog) and I went out for 30 minutes after work. It was so hot and humid and lacking shade. I felt bad about my dog. When I got home DH said my face was all red. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS... it's been a long time since that has happened. It's great to be back!!! Oh and I was cuter than a button in my lime NB skirt and top. I almost looked like I should have been playing tennis!!!
Judy - Way to go get em!!!
Matt - That is way too cool about China!!!
HI Krista - Hi Steve - Hi Carter!!!! Krista - I had 2 natural births with no pain meds and survived to tell about. After the fact, I wouldn't have done it any other way. I had no complications with an epidural and my recovery time was much faster than the average person. Just some food for thought!
Ok, gotta run (not literally!)

Hey everyone! Nice to see all the positive updates. Sounds like this week is starting of great today.
I just came back from an evening 3.5-miler. It took about 34 minutes (or just under an average 10 min mile pace), not my fastest but I went not too long after dinner so I didn't want to push it. This week I'm trying to work on stamina and maintaing consistency. At my first race I over ran my pace on the first mile, so I'm thinking if I can work at a consistent pace (since I can't seem to figure out how to run negative splits) that it will make the same thing happening at the next race less likely.

Thank you all for your kind words. I knew your support would help me mentally face this dumb thing, and it has.
After a couple of days to think about it, I wasn't so much careless just overly optimistic. I hadn't hurt it in 2 years, and had 3 nice results in the past 10 months, so I kept pushing the intensity of my training up, bit by bit. I now know there is a limit to what the muscle will do, and I have to stay on the safe side of that limit.
Today I'm able to walk almost normally, and tomorrow afternoon I'll be in the fitness center beginning the rehab. And I will be at the Tower of Terror, and both legs of the Goofy, for certain.
Stephanie, if you and Scott see me anyplace on the half marathon course on January 10 you need to be direct and insist that I slow down. I have no business being near anyone who runs sub-10 mpm for a while, if ever again.
Thanks to all for your positive vibes, by post, and by other method, both to me and to my lovely spouse. I'll see you all in the corrals, on the course, and at the finish.

Hello all!
Carrie-- I'm so sorry to hear about Scott's father. I know from personal experience what a toll it can take on everyone involved... I'm thinking about you guys. On another note, how cool about the tri... I'm exhausted just thinking about it.
Matt-- Too cool about the Ironman. I've got to do one of those in a few years.... but I have a sneaking suspicion that it, unlike the marathon thing, will be a "once and never again" experience.
Krista and Steve-- Wow... 36 weeks!! Time flies.... Congrats to you both. I'm sure you both must be thrilled.
Judy-- 45 minutes!?!? Sheesh, thats way longer than I'm going these days....
Craig-- So sorry to hear about the calf. Take care of yourself. :)
Tracy-- Well, if I run out AT the beach, it's definately cooler. If I run at home (just two miles from the shore) it feels much warmer and much much more humid. (Guess I need to drive out to the shore to run more often...) Of course right now it's pouring down rain... so we won't be doing either of those right now.
As for me... I got out and did 2.5 miles in 25:03 yesterday.... again, not my best work but I'm trying to ease into things. I'm figuring on running 3-4 days a week, supplimented with the gym, for the next few weeks just to make sure I don't go out too hard too fast. If I can avoid going to the accupuncturist ever again, I want to take that route for sure.
Happy training,
Kevin :earsboy:

Hi!
Debra: Thanks for the mention. DS does not have a specific Eagle project in mind at this time. He is exploring his options. I'll keep you posted.
I ran this morning before work. Here are my stats:
Miles: 6
Time: 55:55
Pace: 9:19
Splits:
8:54
9:34
8:53
10:10
9:05
9:21
I felt great most of the run and decided to run 6 instead of my scheduled 3 today.
Craig: You are THE man. I look forward to seeing you at the starting line and the Finish Line.
Enjoy your day everyone! Happy Training!

Today I'm able to walk almost normally, and tomorrow afternoon I'll be in the fitness center beginning the rehab...
Craig - I'm sorry to hear about your injury. However my first thought was, now I can keep up with Craig during the races. :lmao:
I would say that starting rehab tomorrow is a bit soon. I seem to recall from a few years ago, some person (*cough Calcio cough*) said that after severly pulling or tearing something that a minimum of a week break of icing and rest was needed to make sure you didn't reinjure it or make it worse. According to my simple math, tomorrow is less than a week from injury. :rolleyes1
Whatever you do, if you don't make it to the starting corrals, we may have to come and swat you or we will just sic Martha on you for us. ;)

My two cents on injury recovery.
Minimum 8 weeks off so the injury can heal. Then you start walking, and progress to wogging, then jogging, then running. Start back only at 20% of what mileage you were doing. Then build up 10% more each week.
If at any time you re-injure or it hurts, you stop completely.

Krista- not to scare you, but sometimes you ask for an epidural and you don't get one! (and sometimes that happens twice...) I was all about having pain meds even after seeing the scary videos, and for various reasons, I didn't get any. It was ok- I made it, babies were fine. I'm going to ask for an epidural this time, but whatever. You'll be fine either way!
Craig- My mom and I are doing the half together this year with one of her friends. My mom just finished her first 5k in 43 minutes. You can always hang in the back with us. We won't be fast, but we will be fun! ;)
Running wise, I haven't done much unless you count chasing Harry around the mall-- he climbed into a rack of clothes and whispered "Mommy, hide! Monsters!" Probably not the best lesson to get him a cookie for that behavior, but I wasn't up for dragging him out of the racks...

Hi everyone! Remember me? :goodvibes Yeah...sorry, I've not been checking in, more lurker mode lately. Things have been busy w/ various doc app such as the Ortho, physical therapy (for the knee) and Gastrointerologist. ugh. My knee is ok. I'm now doing strengthening exercises for the muscles around it and the hips. I am eating Gluten Free now. I had an endoscopy done a few weeks ago and everything came back ok, but due to family history and things I have read, I've decided to gluten free for 6 months or so just to see if I feel better. I'm just so tired all the time! I figure it can't hurt.
Training Wise...I'm back to Round 2 of the Couch to 5K. I'm on Week 2 today. I'm trying to get my workouts in the AM since it so hot here in NC! By the time I finish C25K, it will about time to starting training for the the Half! I have decided if want to walk/run or run/walk. I mainly just want to 1) Finish and 2) Have fun. Hey...it's a Disney. I want my first 1/2 Marathon to be a good experience. I'm thinking I will do the Marathoning for Mortals plan to train. This way I can do timed run/walks during the week and the go for mileage on the weekend. I think this will fit better overall with my day to day life.
Angie2...How is your back? Is it still fighting with you???
Krista...Yay for being so close! I'm so excited for you guys! I'm glad to hear you gotten everything you need for the baby.
Craig...Sorry to hear about the torn calf. I can imagine how frustrating that is!
Terrie...Great job there!!!
Matt...You too!
Everyone else! :wave!
I've got a 5K on tap for this weekend. I was hoping to do the 10K, but with all my ailments lately, the training has been lacking and I don't think I could make it. I feel like I'm starting from Ground Zero again, but this time instead of a 5K or 15K as a goal, I've the 1/2 Marathon looming in January.
Have a great evening!!!

You're calculations are correct. You have, however, omitted an exogenous variable to the model, specifically my inability to sit still more than 10 minutes. During the long between semester breaks this gets even worse, as I don't have the daily time requirements of classes and students. I'll be in the fitness center 72 hours after the injury, but since the pace of life in Boston is far faster than my native Colorado, that works out to a Boulder week :rolleyes1 . Doesn't it?
Jeff
You're correct as well. I figure it will be 8 weeks until I'm running again. I've gone through my training logs in 2006, the last time I hurt it, and it's around 2 months before I have a true "run". At least by then here it will be autumn, the best time of year to train by far.
Thanks gentlemen. Honest, I'll be good in the next few weeks. Tomorrow is all lifting (zero with the calf) and biking. I have to keep everything else trained, plus, as stated above, I'm about to go crazy with no training in the past 2 days.
And thanks for the offer Jen. I have no idea what I'll be capable of doing in January. The good part is I was really concerned about getting the first corral of the first wave for Saturday's half. Now it doesn't matter so much.

Craig... Good luck with the physio. Injuries always make it more of an accomplishment in the end.
Stacie... Good luck restarting the C25k. I a modified version of it since I was already some. I'm sure you'll catch back up to where you were before the injury soon.
As far as training today was 4 miles in just under 40 minutes. I'm now comfortably maintaining just under a 10 min mile pace.

Craig, I thought I was the only one with luck like that. I admire your spirit my friend. When I tore my achillies and had, after 2 years of painfull running, to quit running and become a walker, I decided to be the best walker I could be. If I had an accident tomorrow and couldn't walk anymore I'd be out shopping for a racing wheelchair. I know you feel the same way.
Be strong and don't push it till it's time.

My doctor's advice on the epidural when I suggested that I might want to try it natural to see if I could: "Women have been having babies naturally for thousands of years. I know you CAN do it. There's no reason you SHOULD!" One twist on the "Sleep when the baby sleeps" advice that I heard that made sense to me - once Carter goes to bed, give yourself 20 minutes (tops) to do laundry, clean up, whatever, then GO TO BED!
Steve - Three tri's in one month? :woohoo: I think you may be a machine as well. Enjoy it while you can!
Craig - More healing wishes from me; no new advice since I think it's all been said!
Terri - Congrats on the duathlon. I had to laugh (quietly) at your bike story. DH raced for several years when we were dating and also worked in a bike shop, and I didn't want to have to read him your post and have him groan!
Kira - What a busy summer!
Debra - As a die-hard Galloway runner, I'd recommend either his Galloway's Book on Running or Marathon. I have an extra copy of a revised version of Marathon (we get a copy every year for joining the program) if you're interested.
Christa - Thanks for checking in - was thinking about you the other day and wondering how you were doing!
Michelle - Sorry your tri didn't go as well as you'd have liked, but as least you haven't given up.
Angie - Girl, PLEASE be careful! I do understand though - after my run Saturday I hurt in all sorts of new places and was really questioning the whole running thing, so I'm reevaluating now too!
After the last few workouts with our running group where we've been expected to run non-stop for a mile or more, which I seriously struggle with, I decided to try a new approach. I started C25K this week, which I'll be mixing in with my regular long runs with my group on the weekends. Today I successfully completed Day 1, with a few complications - I tried to take the dog along, but discovered that she's not capable of running for even 3 or 4 60-second intervals, so I had to bring her back home and head back out. To compensate, I added a couple of extra intervals. I'm hoping for at least two results - one, to build up to being able to run for longer distances (outside; on the TM I can already do 3 miles non-stop), and two, enjoy the mid-week running, which I'm not right now.

Craig...that was very nice of you to join me on IR. It's fun...you can have all the ibuprofen you want and lots of ice for various body parts. Can't beat it!
:wizard: for quicker healing and more :wizard: for resting.
We'll be leaving on Friday for vacation so not sure if I'll be back around between now and then. Hope everyone has a good week! Won't be long before we start official WDW training!

Jeff - I hope you acknowledge on a daily basis just how lucky you are to live where you do! :)
Jackie
Jackie, what ever do you mean? I run after Guru Les at such speeds that everything around me is a blur. I never get to see anything! LOL, just kidding.
Michelle suggested I be a tour guide when she ever gets here. Anytime everyone, just look me up. But we're doing it by foot, so bring your running gear.:laughing:
I went out for 8 miles with the Guru, at 8:38 average pace. It's getting comfortable for me, which I guess is a good thing. Now if the Anaheim weather will just cooperate next month, and be cool. That way we can all go out and PR the 5K and Half Marathon.
Happy training everyone. Pixie dust to all those nursing owies pixiedust:. Be sure to hydrate and eat properly everyone.

Good Morning Wishers!
Sorry for my long absence, things have been a bit hairy for me lately. the good news is that I am starting to get excited about my Goofy training.
I just wanted to jump in here and say WOW! to Matt for Ironman China!!! How exciting! And bummer to Craig for the injury. However, I imagine you will be back stronger and faster than ever in no time!
Also, I met a girl at a triathlon this Sunday and I gave her the directions to this board. I hope she finds us. She is running the Disney Marathon again this January. You know you have met a Disney fan when her engagement ring is shaped like Mickey Mouse!
Question to all my Goofy partners: Is three half marathons in the fall too much? What if two of them are back to back? I promise I won't race hard:rolleyes1

Does anyone else get the Runner's World quote of the day? Thought I would share today's quote:
"Continuous effort -- not strength or intelligence -- is the key to unlocking our potential."
LIANE CARDES
This quote made me think of Dory and "just keep swimming, just keep swimming"

Cecelia - I'm not a Goofy, but taht should mewan you will be even more able to handle it. We can do about 1 half a month, easily (doing LRs of 5-8-5 btwn). If you take it easy on your B2B halfs, you should be fine.
Craig - Glad you are on teh mend! So sorry you have to mimit yourself, but good for you for understandign your boundaries, because slow runnign is still better than no running.
Solo - Thanks. OMG, if we can do a tri, you can do it. Then again, we haven't done it yet. :p
Debra - I spent 2 to 3 hours on my car adn it didn't get a wash. That' show bad mine was. As for my house, if we don't count things you have in boxes as clutter (doesn't ocunt when you are so fresh from a move), I know I would win/lose that competition too!
Stacie - Glad you are going again. Good for you fro going gluten free. Hope it helps!
Jeff - Cool plate!
Wellsley princess- That 10 mpm pace sounds awesome to me. You should be happy with that! :goodvibes
Mel - Have a grat vacation!
GAJen - lol, I think chasing Harry sound slike pleanty to me. WHen are you due?
JAckie - Good luck on C25K!
OK, I know I'm still missing a bunch. Thansk to everyone for your good thoughts for FIL and wishing us luck on the tri. :goodvibes
Yes, I have huge tri on the brain now, but it will go away as soon as I get home and have to train. :p

:teeth:
Thanks Debra ~ I actually was going to follow a Hal Higdon 30 week marathon training course (I think it was like a 16 week "spring training" and then 16 or 18 weeks of marathon training) and I had it planned to start around this time. I have never done any more then 9.3 miles so I want to make sure I am not dead before I get to 26.2 miles. So far I am enjoying the training program - I only went out once so far (last Saturday) but there is something about being around other runners that makes me more motivated so I think its a good thing. As far as the heat, its not too bad at 6AM since its not yet light. Of course the heat and humidity is always there the majority of the time around here so the only thing to do is get out there and train in it.
Of course I haven't gotten much running in this week since I am still trying to plan (stress over) my quickie trip to WDW this weekend. I really should have done 4 miles speedwork yesterday but it didn't get done - supposed to have a rest day today but may put in a few miles (if its not raining outside but maybe still inside on the TM)

Craig: How's that calf coming along?? If I see you during the WDW Half, you will be going too slow and if you need a kick in the buttocks I can do that or if you want to hang with me your more than welcome. :)
Terri: I forgot to say CONGRATS on the Philly Duathlon!!!
Angie: Don't get bummed about your runs - your getting out there and doing it and that counts for something. Also I have this new philosophy that us Floridians work harder than others and our 7.5 miles equals their 10.5 miles!! :rotfl:
Carrie: Rock lifting, power washing, sound that a great new workout DVD!!
Ang, Jen, Bill:
Judy: Time on the TM, don't even get me started!! I give you credit :worship:. I just hate feeling like I am going nowhere.
Maura: I think your engineer mind is working too hard and you could drive yourself nutso with overthinking it, but hey whatever works. Keep at it and don't give up!!:woohoo:
Mel: Have fun on your vacation!!!
Stacie: Your plan sounds good and I'll be looking forward to seeing during and at the finish of the WDW Half!! (It was my first half also!!) I loved the quote and I also do the Dora: Just keep swimming. You'll hear me at the Half saying to people around me to just keep moving and putting one foot in front of the other!!
Debra: Yeah, I was missing my Trashzone. I do enjoy it when I'm there, but really couldn't tell you why. I hope to be there tomorrow afte work, but will have to see what the weather brings. I HATE TMs, don't know how you guys up north do it all the time, it drives me crazy! I did have a nice slice of Key Lime Pie over the weekend, very tasty. (It is the official pie of the State of Florida!!) Hoping things are going ok with your Dad.
Jeff: You finally fot your plates for your truck, Very NIce!!
SoloKevin: It's kinda the same out here when I go for my walks. I leave my house going West and come home East, so I get the cooler breeze on the way back most of the time. Had a nice little wet walk last night at Brian Piccolo Park, I think I was the only one there!
Duckie: :wave2:
As for me: I can't believe I haven't posted since page 2, - ugh. It's been a bit rainy here and thought about not walking after work, but went to the park, parked my car (no one else there), got out and walked in the rain - using an umbrella for a while - and got in alittle over 2 miles, but it was miserable. Not fun when your all wet!. I got out and rode my bike this morning before the storms come a rumblin in.
Have a good day! - Racey Tracy

Hi, everyone! I am sorry I have been so woefully absent. I think I have been so focused on living the WISH motto, that it has consumed all my time.
Craig – I am so sorry to hear about your injury. We will keep you in our prayers for a fast recovery and very effective rehab.
Krista and Steve – We are so happy for you guys and very, very excited that you will soon have your very own little miracle in your arms. What a joyful time, full of anticipation and, I’m sure, a bit of trepidation. Please know there are LOTS of WISH aunties and uncles who are here to provide support and loving encouragement (and probably a LOT more advice than you’d ever want). ;) Be sure to let us know if you need company for mid-night feedings with a laptop near by. We could even set up a chat room that you could retreat to when you are in need of some middle of the night company. Oh, and thanks for asking about Jenn – she is enjoying her full-time job teaching 2 year olds this summer and I think she may not have much time/energy for the DBF, but they seem to have slowed down a bit, which is just fine by me and Howard. ;)
Aloha Jeff – It is always so wonderful to see your posts about your family’s exploration of paradise. What a wonderful lifestyle you have created for your princesses, teaching them that time spent in the great outdoors is so much better as leisure time than time spent in front of a tv or computer. And we all LOVE your photos!
WOW, Terri!! What an awesome duathlon finish! I am so impressed by you, and LOOK at that run pace! Woohoo! :woohoo: I hope you are so outrageously impressed with yourself, like we are!
Matt – You never cease to amaze me. Always looking for the new challenge, huh? What an awesome undertaking! Cannot wait to hear all about your training and your race!
Carrie – I’d hardly call your weekend one of “no workouts”! That is called cross-training, my dear! You and Judy need to learn how to journal that stuff and take full credit for the effort, and learn how to really “rest”!
Jennifer – Congrats on your awesome performance! 2nd in your AG is absolutely fabulous!! :thumbsup2
Michelle – congrats on your 2nd triathlon, and for sharing the love of the event with your DH!
Angie, sweetie, I can’t begin to imagine what it takes for you to get out there time and again knowing the risk of pain you suffer. The fact that we all admire your determination and discipline does not mean that any of us thinks you should tough it out, because we all recognize the risk of injury and of a long-term involuntary hiatus that can result from overdoing it. So, here’s me being a MOM, but more importantly, wanting only the best for my dear friend – PLEASE take care of yourself and do not push it. Pay attention to your body and give it the rest time to recover that it needs. Sending you pixiedust: and :goodvibes kiddo.
Jen – It is about time you carved some time out for yourself! I am so glad you seized the chance to get out with your really cute outfit on for a good workout! :cool1:
Stacie -- Great job re-starting C25k. I hope you find that you love it and once you finish it, you find that you continue to improve even more with every step you take outside!
Have fun!
Sorry for all I’ve missed! I’ll do a bit of “all-about-here” catch-up and try to get back later.
Thank you to everyone who sent good WISHes for Andrew’s Eagle Scout efforts. I had the unexpected pleasure of a phone call from him yesterday, letting me know that he will be completely DONE his Eagle Scout badges (yes, all FOUR remaining) by the time he comes home this weekend, and that he won’t need next week to finish things up (not sure we can get a refund, so he may end up at camp for a week with no required activities – I think that could be fun). I am really proud of him for working so hard to accomplish double what we’d hoped this week. Frankly, it may just be that he’d rather be home playing Wii Rock Band that we gave him for his birthday and talking to his GF on the phone. ;) I know I miss him terribly, so I’ll enjoy having him home anyway for 2 weeks before drumline camp and band camp.
I have been on a roller coaster of emotion, feeling joy at the wonder of running all the time now and deep disappointment at a total lack of progress on the scale. I have been running at least 4x/week for 2 miles, have done 3 5ks since mid-June, working out with a personal trainer 2x/week, doing strength training at least 3x/week, and doing 100 crunches and pushups every night. My workout diary looks like I’m some kind of exercise addict, all in an effort to move the scale. I also track every single stupid little bite of food and meet every single weight loss guideline advised in 3 different sources. Nada. Nothing. And as I mentioned earlier this week to some of my friends here who must be so darned sick of my whining about this, I am very well aware, intellectually, that I am building muscle, that I am stronger, that I am able to RUN 5ks now when I used to struggle to walk one at an improving pace. I know all of those things. I know that I am living a healthy lifestyle. I appreciate everyone who tells me how great I am doing. But I am in a woefully pathetic hole of self-pity over the fact that I have been up and down within a 4 pound range on the scale for well over a year. It just isn’t fair.
So, that’s why I haven’t been here much. I’ve been busy journaling on sparkpeople and in my WISH journal, trying to be supportive of other WISHers in their journals and DISers on the sparkteam I lead. Oh, and panicking full-out about the fact that my wedding gown, which will be delivered in October for our January vow renewal, is two sizes smaller than I should have ordered.

OK, I'm back. I could not read Cam's post and not respond to it.
Cam, you know I love you. but I have to tell you, I'm getting out the mustard 'cause you need a slappin', woman! :rolleyes1
You have no reason to be a black hole. LOOK at all you have accomplished! You ARE making progress! Yes, listen to you rational mind, will you please?? Weren't you just telling us how you can now fit in that smaller size skirt? So what if your actual numbers are the same?? Come on Cam, I'd be THRILLED if I could fit in anything a size smaller. Find the joy in that. You have earned it!! You need to go back and reread WWDave's post. Memorize it. You are such a hero to so many of us and you have come so far. Please don't belittle your efforts. You are living such a healthy lifestyle. You're training is progressing at amazing rates. Come on, you can RUN a 5K now!
Please be a little more gentle with yourself.   Cause if not, I'm coming down there with Martha Marth and giving you the FULL mustard treatment! :thumbsup2

I don't think 3 halfs in the fall is too much, particularly for you. I don't think running all 3 at max effort would be a good idea either, so perhaps really push one, run another at a nice tempo, and run the third as a fun training run.
Tracey
It sounds like I may be in danger on January 10 and 11. If I get too far forward I may get smacked back, and too far back I'll get kicked forward. I'll try to figure out where no one else is, for safety purposes.
Cam
I suppose this is the time for a 2319 from Monsters' Incorporated. Remember to never, ever lose sight of how far you have come in 3 short years. I recall a lady who in July of 2005 (it must be something about July with you) was reaching past her limit to cover a half marathon in front of the sweepers, and that same lady, slightly more mature, a lot fitter, and hopefully wiser, is now a 100% certainty to easily make it around the half marathon course. Comfortably, having fun, and well ahead of the sweep.
Like you, I keep losing and finding the same few pounds. The only time in the past 5 years I made true progress was last summer when I was in Boulder (1) being active all the time, and (2) eating, shall we say creatively on the fly, instead of sitting down to Martha's 5 Diamond award winning meals.
Like you, I'm frustrated, but most days we choose to address that frustration by taking another lap, instead of another beignet. Isn't that alone worth feeling pleased about?
And if it isn't please don't tell me. I don't want to know.
Respectfully
Craig

MB Michelle: Congratulations on your second tri! I know you're a little disappointed by it, but I remain impressed by how quickly your first tri, second tri, and first 1/2 are on your event calendar! That's dedication and I hope you're proud of yourself!
Angie: You're just a natural overachiever, you know? That's what your stonkers boil down to. You want to do more than you're ready for. If you were my employee, I'd probably take advantage of your work ethic and ambition. (I imagine myself very much as a type of Dickensian employer ala Ebeneezer Scrooge before rehabilitation.) As your friend, I'm going to tell you to sloooooow down and enjoy your extra-long training period. I know you already know this information, but feel like it bears repeating.
Jen: Ahhh, a red face and a lime green shirt. Two colors that go together naturally. That's just the way your life should be. Welcome back! :thumbsup2
Jennifer: I have no suggestions for running negative splits, although I aspire to do so on purpose one day. In the meantime, consistency is a great goal for both us to to work on, especially now that you've discovered you can comfortably maintain your 10mm pace. You can lead me on that one, as you seem to be setting a great pace for yourself!
Dena: No watch suggestions, just wanted to say Hi! :yay:
Craig: Well, I'm certainly glad you've got your Bill and Jeff to serve as your virtual running coaches. They'll keep you in check, at least insomuch as ANYONE can. (Although I do have my money on Martha having the upper hand from time to time. Just saying.) Good luck with the rehabbing...and, for God's sake, man, SIT STILL sometimes! :lmao:
Bill: Now that was simple enough math that even I could follow it! Great job keeping Craig accountable! I'm still not sure how he calculates a Boulder/Boston week, so maybe you can break that one down for all of us.
Aloha Jeff: Love the plate and the not-so-hidden Mickey on the back of the Tacoma. Thanks for the general rules-of-thumb on injury recovery. I know Craig appreciates, but I do too. (Even though I hope not to need the info in the near future.) It sounds like running with Guru Les has reset your pace. That bodes well for your time at the DL 1/2, regardless of the conditions. (Better than you would have done last year, say, in similar conditions.) I'm hoping for unseasonably cool temps for all you WISHers doing the DL 1/2. Think Bingham (the penguin) and ice cubes.
Vic: What type of fitness duty did you have in mind? ;) :woohoo: Why, Vic, what do you think? Something in which you end up hot and sweaty, with an elevated HR, and, if you're not careful, a leg cramp! Now see what you've done? You've made me blush! (Or is that flushed? :lmao:)
Kevin: It's good to hear that you're making strides in your runs with an eye for a more needle-free recovery! :thumbsup2
Howard: That's the model of a perfect run--scheduled for 3, went for 6. Yay!
Jen in GA: I wish you were my Mommy--there's a lot I would do for the right kind of cookie. And I call the cookie positive reinforcement. :rolleyes1 Your DM did a great job on her 5K! Tell her congrats for me!
Stacie: I've been totally meaning to ask you how your strengthening exercises were going, but forgot with everything else that's been going on. I hope you notice a difference. Your perspective on the Disney 1/2 is spot on, I think. Fun is my main goal, maybe my only goal. (Okay, I probably think finishing would be good, too, and if I think too hard about it I probably could come up with a time goal. But it's summer, so I'm refusing to do numbers. When the time comes, I just ask one of you to do so.) You're definitely not starting from Ground Zero on your 5K, as you've been doing races and training and exercises. I think this weekend is going to be a pleasant experience for you! :thumbsup2 Great quote by Liana Cardes, btw.
Dave: I loved this statement: If I had an accident tomorrow and couldn't walk anymore I'd be out shopping for a racing wheelchair. Spirit of an athlete.
Jackie: Thanks for the book recommendations and the book-loan offer. I live only a few minutes away from my Carnegie library, so I'll check for them there. Knowing me, I'll absolutely have to buy the newest addition for my ever-growing library of running books. (Anyone else have that problem?) I, too, have been using C25K as part of my mix for speedwork. I think it's a useful template for things and hope it works for you. I hope you find yourself enjoying your mid-week runs soon. Any idea why they're challenging as compared to your LRs with your Galloway group?
Mel: I meant to say this on the Ohana thread...Have a great time on vacation!! :woohoo:
Cecilia: Woo hoo for your soon-to-start Goofy training. I can hear the excitement in your post. And fun story about meeting up with a die-hard Disney runner and fan, complete with the engagement-ring bling to prove it. Very cool. I can't answer the question about 3 fall 1/2s, except to say if anyone can handle it you can. But I can ask you, "Do you really, really promise to run easy on them, esp. the back to back ones?" :rolleyes1
Carrie: I didn't realize you did so many 1/2s! :worship: No wonder you have tri on the brain--you obviously need the new challenge and 1/2s have gotten boring for you. Thank you for the link, and for sharing your (and that of Cam, Craig, Krista, Mel, Pat, Monte, Helen, Lily, Kathy, etc.) history with us. I loved them!
Tricia: I can understand the Saturday/other runners motivation. There are a lot more runners in our new neighborhood, although not a running group--and I find it both motivating and a little intimidating. (Like I've got imposter syndrome.) Having a stable group to keep you on track, maybe even push you a little, must work like that. At least it sounds like that for you. I never thought about the training-to-train program as "spring training." I like that description...makes me think athlete. :teeth:
Racey Tracy: Key Lime Pie. Now that's a state food to be proud of. DOOD loves a good Key Lime pie (heck, he loves a bad one). I think I need to make one of those soon, start practicing. I'm one of the few here who don't hate TMs, I think. Maybe it's because I'm used to going nowhere? :confused3 :rotfl: I don't like running or walking in the rain, even though Pgh is trying to convince me of its merits.
Cam: I think I have been so focused on living the WISH motto, that it has consumed all my time. And that's a good thing, right?! Yay for Andrew and finishing all his Eagle Scout bades--it seems like it was only a few days ago we were talking about his desire to finish them....oh, wait, it WAS only a few days. Wow, he's quick! :thumbsup2 Both he and Jenn are the kind of kids that are easy to like, I can tell, and are testaments to you and Howard's love and parenting.
Now, on to you, my dear. You are phenomenal woman, another person who I think embodies both the spirit of WISH and that of an athlete. And here you are, so down on yourself. Who do you think you are, insulting someone who I'm so very fond of??? How dare you??? I think you need to march right up to a mirror, stare that beautiful woman in the face, and tell her all the things you love about her. Trust me, she's so worth it! Oh, and what Judy and Craig said. ::yes::
Judy: The mustard treatment? That has all sorts of spicy possibilities, I suppose....:scratchin
MLA: Yay for restarting C25K. Boo for closing the window--reminds me of something I would do.
As for me: Nothing much to report. Did another 4.5 today, just running and not focusing on speed work. Turns out it makes me a happier, less snarky person.
As does reading the histories of my WISH buddies. Not only do I see the progress that all of you have made, but your posts remind me of all that I have to be happy about: my own improvements, a healthier body and mind, and belong to this great group of athletes who are also friends!
Whew, that was almost sappy. I think I need a drink to get that sweet taste out of my mouth. First round of celebratory drinks are on me. Here's a cold one to everyone out there who's working toward their goals! :drinking1

I am glad everyone is try'in to talk some sense into Cam, she has so much to be proud of and yet... she gets mired down in insignificant details about a scale not showing progress, etc. I have noticed differences, trust me.. and I'm really look'in! ;) Either way, I am proud of her efforts and her determination to do everything possible to be the best WISHer she can be. She is truly Inspired to Stay Healthy. :lovestruc  :cloud9:
I got home from work and hit the streets for a quick romp. Here is the scoop:

Time: 44:25
Pace: 8:53
I hope everyone has a great evening! Stay cool, well hydrated and well adjusted. :thumbsup2

Debra - I know what you mean about feeling like an "imposter" that is how I feel when I run with this group although there are a few walkers so I am not the slowest but I am the slowest of the runners (well at least I was last week and I only ran with the one other time and I was slow then too!!) Oh well with practice we can only get better right??
Tracy - YUM Key Lime Pie - that's my favorite. I am a Florida native and I make a pretty good Key Lime Pie. YUM now you are going to have me dreaming of Key Lime Pie!!!!
Since Tracy is just to the south of me you already heard her report of the rainy weather we are having here. UGH so with the rain and the "excitement" of going to WDW on Friday:banana: no training has been going on for me since Monday unless you consider the running I did today in the pouring rain at the courthouse this afternoon. Oh well I guess I will be getting some good "cross-training" in this weekend and then back on track with training on Sunday.

No running today, but I finally made it to my Tae Kwon Do class. I basically said that I was leaving work by 6:30. Period. Thankfully one of my friends was there and we got permission to work on our own so that I could refresh my memory. She's great too. After going through all of my forms, she started teaching me my first black belt form. Woohoo! I know the form in theory because I competed for the past 3 years and have seen many of the black belts use it.
My plan is to run again in the morning before work. Good night everyone!

Did you try the Dairy Queen Thin Mint Blizzard yet? It's only out during the month of July, so hurry. I thought it was okay, but Dryer's Girls Scout Thin Mint Cookie ice cream is way better.
I love my Thin Mints so much, I made my two Princesses join Girl Scouts. :lmao: Oh, and I'm the leader!

Morning teammates! Well after another depressing morning on the scale yesterday (it's amazing what a couple indulgent vacations will do to a body), it was a hard workout in the gym. 9.5 miles on the bike trainer and 20 minutes of leg work in the weight room. And then if was off to the church for 3 hours a back breaking painting inside bookcases. I am paying for it this morning, more the painting than the workout. I'm tired, sore and cranky--not a good combo!
Today should be Zumba with a little extra workout of some kind. Might get in a little run, we'll see.
AlohaJeff-Love the hidden Mickey!
Craig--at the rate Scott and I are going right now, we'll not be sub-10:00 in January--we'll be happy to finish-maybe we can actually stay together this time around!
Cam--Just jumping in to 2nd what everyone else said! You are such an inspiration to both Scott and I. You've come so far and continue to progress so much, it's amazing! And may I remind you that Scott's favorite memory of the marathon in January was NOT crossing the finish line with his wife (silly man) but was seeing you come into Epcot with a huge smile on your face! Love ya!
Angie--Love ya girl!
Okay, need to go see if DD is still alive--it's almost 9 and she's still asleep. Wore her out yesterday I guess

Cam, Hang in there! Remember there many more reasons to be doing what you're doing and it'll happen when it happens!
Jeff, love the hidden Mickey. Hope your girls are loving girl scouts! I was a girl scout from 6-16 and I learned sooo much that I wouldn't have otherwise!
I switched to morning runs this morning. ugh. I have a morning race on saturday so I'm trying to get use to running shortly after getting up. I definitely noticed that I was stiffer and it took longer to warm up. The cooler weather was certainly nice. I got 3.5 miles in under 35 minutes. I'm up to a 9:35-9:45 consistent pace.

Well, the morning workout didn't happen. After DBF left for work and I did a few things that needed to be done, it was already too late. I through some clothes and my sneaker in a bag so that I could go to the gym and exercise in the AC after work, but that bag is now sitting by the door at home. Doh! I'll just have to set up multiple fans aroung the treadmill tonight. DBF is driving his boss to work a few days per week now (boss had a stroke and has been cleared to work but not to drive) so he is leaving earlier 3 days per week. I'll have to get my workouts in on those mornings now!

.....but most days we choose to address that frustration by taking another lap, instead of another beignet. Craig
Okay, there are a few of us who will take the beignets, too!;) Actually, I decided that like "carbon offsets", I will work on "food offsets". I will enjoy the things I like (you there, step away from the chocolate!) and just offset with a little more exercise. Don't actually know if it works, but it makes me happier!
Jeff I love that Hidden Mickey! I'll have to look for Office Depot Trucks. Another HM along those same lines--the rear tail lights of a Buick LaCrosse sedan. They are more of a "two-beer" HM, but I still think Disney every time I see one.
Took out my new bike last night. My DH was gracious enough to take me on a 10 mile ride--I'm sure it killed him to go slower, but he did it. Practiced with the clipless pedals, which I'm starting to get the hang of--just don't want to have to do a panic stop!
Today I'm going for a rare midday workout swim, then home to take a late conference call.

Hoping your Thursday is going well.
Dang, I trained three days is a row this week. Must be some kind of new record, or something.

Judith – Slept in. Riiiiiiiight! You didn't have the foam roller out again, did you? :rolleyes1 :lmao:
Craig – Hope the leg is doing better.
Debra – WTG with the 4.5 miler! I can deal with hot and sweaty, and an elevated HR. But, the leg cramp has be a little worried. :rotfl2:

GOOD AFTERNOON TEAM
OK I WILL NEVER NEVER not check the boards for a couple of days after posting like that. YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING :grouphug: JUST AMAZING!!
You guys will be happy to know that I have not run since Sunday and we found a marathon training plan that starts in the middle of August and I don't have to be at 10 mile LRs to start it so I feel less pressure.
I did not do anything Monday or Tuesday and last night I did my PUMP (weights) and spinning with a little core thrown in at the end. I have been hitting the foam roller harder than ever - which really helps, that thing is amazing ( there is literally an indentation down the middle of it from all the use!! :))
One thing i do realize is 2 weeks a go I was completely pain free because I was doing all the right things. Then I had to go do intervals on the TM for 5 miles and a couple of days later try 8  !!!!! So tomorrow am I will do an easy 3 and then Sunday 4.
I honestly WISH I had time to respond to everyone because as usual you guys inspire me and push me -- THANK YOU.
I do have to say: CAM :grouphug: Thank you for your words of encouragement and I agree with everyone else. You have so much to be proud of and thankful for. I know it's hard when you feel like you are working so hard and you feel like you are not seeing any progress and for that all I can say is we love you and you have been such an inspiration to me, I have told so many people your story who are so amazed!!!
I'm sorry I really have to get back to work.

I've read through the thread, but I don't have time to post right now. I've been trying to get on all day, I've just been so busy! I wanted to give everybody my baby update and then I'll post either later this afternoon or tonight when I get home from work.
So I went to the doctor yesterday for my 36 week check-up. The doctor examined me and said that the baby is head down and in position and he thinks the baby will be born in 2-3 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And he doubts I'll see my due date of 8/12!!! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: I might hit Stephen's birthday (8/4) after all. :)
I have to sign off now, but I want to let everyone know that I will be back to post for real!!

By the way, for those who have asked, we are naming the baby Carter Stephen. Carter after my grandpa and Stephen after Stephen. :goodvibes

Thank you so much, everyone, for all the kind words.
Carrie -- It was so nice of you to dig up that thread. WOW! I remember exactly what and how I was feeling at that point in time. So glad the WISH team picked me up and put me back on my feet and on the road that led to 3 half marathons, 2 full marathons, 3 15ks, 1 13k, and countless shorter races. I'm sure I'd have given up on myself a long time ago. Glad the WISH team didn't give up on me. :grouphug:
Stephanie -- I will never forget when you told me that about Scott over marathon weekend. It still makes me cry such joyful tears to think of how blessed I am with the support and love WISHers share so generously.
Craig -- It's funny you mentioned beignets. I am finally going to have the cheeseburger tonight that I've been craving for more than a year. As you can see, I don't have your willpower.
I really do appreciate everyone's encouragement. I can really appreciate how far I've come. I am definitely excited and reassured and proud of my newfound ability to run and my passion for it. What I am not excited about is that I may be Weight Watchers' Fittest Failure in the history of the program. :lmao: My weight was actually UP again this week at weigh in  (but that's for another thread. ;) )
I am amazed at how quickly I have been able to see improvements in my overall pace. My workout buddy and I ran on Tuesday morning and today and there was some improvement to pace today, just by switching to intervals of R4/W1 (we only did 2 miles because we are doing a 5k Saturday and did lower body workout yesterday and were both pretty tired in the legs):
Today's workout:
Mile 1 -- time 12:12/ best speed 9:25
Mile 2 -- time 13:04/ best speed 10:58
Today's total time -- 25:13 (Tueday 25:51)
Overall pace -- 12:38 (Tuesday 12:57)
Every little improvement helps, right? I am hoping to finally see a sub-40:00 5k time this Saturday. It has been disturbingly elusive. ;) I am hoping a rest day tomorrow makes it likely. :cool1: And I am sooo excited about training to RUN the 1/2 in January.
So, for anyone who may think that running is an impossible dream ( like you have all now heard I absolutely believed), let me assure you that it isn't. Once again, my WISH experience has taught me that putting in the steps makes all of our goals within our reach, even if some of us take a while to get to those goals. :goodvibes

Hello all!
I ran today after work, it was 93 degrees and the heat index had to be close to 100 for sure. Luckily my schedule only called for 3 miles. That is what I did.
Miles: 3.01
Time: 29:15
Pace: 9:43
Splits:
9:08
9:25
10:36 (hill)
I had to take it a bit easy due to the conditions and some shin splint-like pain I was feeling in my shins. I think it is from over use. I ran 6 on Tuesday and 5 yesterday. Thankfully, tomorrow is a rest day!
I have been mainly training in neighborhoods adjacent to mine. There are two major (long) hills that I have to navigate each run. I don't really like hills but feel that if I train on hills, I'll be in better condition than if I didn't.
Have a great night!

Hi team, remember me? It has been awhile since I posted on the main thread. Don't worry, that doesn't mean that I'm slacking though! Work has been pretty busy and I've been devouring blogs related to triathlons.
I've been getting to the pool a couple of times a week to work on my swimming in preparation for my first sprint tri on August 10th. I'm also continuing on with marathon training. I run 18 miles this Saturday... My marathon is in Quebec City on August 24th. Once I'm home it is time to start training for the Disney full! A few months ago I had no idea I would love biking so much, and now I think I may be starting to love swimming too... I'm hoping to take a tri swimming and cycling clinic at the YMCA this fall.
Craig - I'm so sorry to hear about your calf. Tons of PD to you.
Cam - I understand how you feel...you work so hard, but you aren't sure you see results. Cam, you are seeing results because you have made so much improvement in your running. Ultimately, I believe the scale is not the be all and end all. I think being able to run a marathon says so much more about you (and all of your other races) than that number on the scale.
Angie - I'm sending you buckets of PD that you have this IT thing licked.
Krista and Stephen - Best of luck with the impending arrival of your little one!
Jeff - Your daughters are adorable. I miss those good Girl Scout cookies. Sadly, Canadian Girl Scout cookies are nowhere near the same. And so sigh...I'm missing out on Thin Mint Blizzard month. If Calgary was closer to the border I would consider taking a road trip to try one!
Carrie - Best of luck on your tri!! Is it an open water or pool swim? I just got my new tri top in the mail today!
Debra - A huge hello to you! Have you tried any good ice cream flavours lately?
Alright folks, gotta get to bed so I can be at the Y at 5:30 for some early morning swimming time. Wish me luck on my 18 miler on Saturday!

Leanna - good luck on the 18. Glad you're liking the triathlon. I did a duathlon last week and had a ball. I have a tri scheduled for August 23rd.
Howard - be careful of those shin splints. I know how you feel about the hills. Yuck! At least you're tackling them. I usually try to avoid them (which doesn't help my training much!)
Cam - I'm with Judy - you need a slap! Stop obsessing with the scale. I know it's hard to do, because I do it too. I get on and don't see much, if any decline in the numbers. But I know I feel better and the clothes are a little looser, so that's progress. So, if you feel better and obviously your times have improved, don't worry what the scale says. You've been through a lot and come so far. You're an inspiration to all of us WISHERS. Your enthusiasm and determination is infectious (in a good way:goodvibes ).
Keep working hard, but more importantly, enjoy the experience!:thumbsup2
Angie - take care of yourself. Don't try to push it too soon.
The weather reports for this weekend are HOT! HOT! HOT! The temps are supposed to be mid-90's with a heat index of 100+
I am participating in a relay that helps benefit training and education for the homeless. It is a 24 hour race.
I have a 5 woman team and each of us must do an 8.4 mile loop. I estimated it will take us about 13 hours to finsh our laps. The highest level teams have each team member doing 4 laps (33+ miles). There is also a Lone Ranger category where individuals see how many laps they can finish in 24 hours.
This is a 1st time event, so it will be interesting to see how it goes. I heard our Fire Commissioner isn't happy because of the heat situation. They're afraid people my start dropping.
I'll let you all know how I do after I wake up on Sunday morning.

Hey all.... My life is a series of crazy stress filled days. I don't really have time for me or to have fun lately. I really hate that. Anyway... last night I got out for some r/w-ing for 30 minutes. I am trying to get back into things, but it's been really hard for me because of some personal things.
Cam - I think you are doing FABULOUS. My scale seems to be broken also, as it doesn't move at all. BUT... that doesn't mean there is no progress. My legs seem to not look as icky (meanig they may be toning up a bit). So keep that chin up. Plus, since I have taken a running vacation, my speed has not improved much... looks like I will be running with you if I make it to the 1/2 this year!!!
Krista and Steve - YAHHHH... both of my kids were 10 days early. I decided that was better than being past due and waiting. You life will never be the same soon!!!! Get those bags packed!
Judith Anne - You see... I miss a lot of days also. It's OK, as long as you don't get like me and take 6 weeks off!!! :confused3
Carrie - Last night when I was on my little run, I counted all the races I did this year. No 5K's. WHAT??? But when I add up my race miles... it's not too bad! It's too hot and humid now to race, but maybe I can score up something in September to force me to train better!

Leana - It's open water, but on a small lake, so the waves should be even less than we practice on. What are teh details on your upcoming tri?
Did my mini practice tri last night. I was able to convince dh that noon on a 90 degree day before we have to drive 9 or 10 hours maybe wansn't the best plan. :confused3 Did ok. Pretty windy so swimming back took us 10 min longer than swimming out. Except for wanting to die of heat on teh run, though, things went ok. Can't say I'm sure we're ready, but, unless a bike breaks badly, we should be ok.

Hi guys! I got W1D2 in this morning. 1.55 miles total. I increased my running speed for most of it. I'm still running at the speed that I should be walking at, but I've got 40 lbs on me that I didn't have the last time I seriously exercised, and about 70 lbs that I didn't have in high school. Once the weight starts coming off, I'll probably be able to go faster, right?
I also need to find a little fan to clip onto my treadmill. Just something to keep the air moving around my head. I so wish that I had AC in the room that the treadmill is in. Sunday will probably be at the gym since the heat wave is supposed to continue.
Cam - Get your head in the game! (hehehe, got HSM on the brain for some reason). If you're really concerned about the scale, maybe you need to change up your routine.
Howard - Do you use something that records your workouts? I just got a new pair of Nike+ sneakers, so I'm looking forward to buying the ipod sensor to start keeping track of everything.

Hey all! Hope everyone is having a great Friday! We're off tonight for a mini vacation down to the NC Coast (Stacy to be exact). There is a 5K in Beaufort (about 1/2 hr Stacy) that I will be doing. It starts at 8 am, but I'm afraid it will already be warm and muggy.
My scale is not moving either but I know I need to pick my activity and watch the food intake. Seems I'm living off of popcorn right now!
Carrie... Glad to hear your practice tri went well. I keep thinking I'm going to take swim lessons so I can learn to swim properly. I'd like to try the Danskin tri in May at Disney next year if they continue to have it.
Cam...GIRL... Don't make me hurt you! :lmao: I'm glad to see you are coming to your senses about that scale. I do know how frustrating it is, but you have some really great non-scale victories lately. :wizard: for that sub-40 5K this weekend. I KNOW you can do it!!!
Angie...Glad to hear you are feeling better!
Krista...2-3 Weeks! Whoo! He'll be here before you know it. :hyper:

Up early again for a practice 5k. I ran it in 29:30 (which by my calculations is about a 9:30 pace). Then back home and back to bed. My race tomorrow is rather large for our town traditionally (about 200 people); however, since the nearby city is also having a race that evening it my change the turn out. I've broken 30 minutes for 3 miles every run this week so hopefully the race won't get the best of me and I'll break it again tomorrow.

Howard: Snark, snark, snark! See how snarky I can be? :lmao: I think your comments about Cam's progress are the truest statements yet. Cam's a real WISHer--and a hottie at that! You ain't too bad yourself, either. And I look forward to the day I think of a 5 miler as a romp. You're both inspirations. Take care of those shins, because those hills of yours are waiting! (I don't know if it would be the same in your case, but I've been far less prone to shin pain since I moved to Pgh and been challenged by hills. It hasn't done wonders for my pace, but my knees and shins are far stronger.) Thanks for working at the Blood Bank 5K and your work with Delmarva. :worship:
Tricia: That's so funny. I'd never peg you as experiencing imposter syndrome at all. You always seem so confident and on top of things! :thumbsup2 You know I like my XT, so I think of your pre-Disney trip weather as just the thing you need to mix the routine up again. The weather and the trip, of course. Have a great time on the latter, enjoy doing the former, and--always, always, always--good running!
MLA: How exciting for you to be working on your black-belt form. I had no idea that you competed in Tae Kwon Do and that you're undertaking the black belt. How exciting! :woohoo: Good luck with the morning runs and the schedule shift--your DBF is a gem to drive his boss to work even given the obvious incentive to do so. You're doing great with C25K. And yes, your speed increased as you lose weight. I can't remember the formula, though. Anyone? :confused3 In the meantime, I hope you're enjoying the challenge of C25K almost as much as you enjoy Tae Kwon Do. Good luck finding a mini-fan, too!
Aloha Jeff: That picture is one of my favorite Hidden Mickeys, although the box of Girl Scout (not cookies) is pretty darned cool too! Yay for your GS troop and all the work they do, including the blood banks! I've yet to try the DQ Thin Mint Blizzard. Although I live near several ice-cream stores, as you all well know, a DQ is not one of them. I'll just let you do the advance taste-testing on such things and give me the skinny on what to try. (Of course, with ice cream I don't think any of it will give me the skinnies.) How was the PTA and all its various joys? :lmao:
Stephanie: Ah, the evil scale. I'm experiencing some of that myself. I wish my vacation/food indulgence weight was also my fighting (racing) weight. But it's not to be. It sounds like you're doing a good job with running, XT, and physical labor. (Yuck on painting.) Those things will offset the vacations, I'm sure! :thumbsup2 I chucked at your "paid for the gym" comment. There are days where "getting my money's worth" is what gets me out of bed. Great job with your 4+ miles, and the additional pool/kidlet chasing mileage!
Judy: Sometimes sleeping in can be an important part of training. Rest, you know! ::yes::
Jennifer: I prefer morning runs, even with the longer warm-up time, because of the cooler weather. Will you be sticking with that schedule? Great pace--you seem to be cutting your pace pretty consistently and quickly. :cool1: You're now well below 10mm and probably eying a sub-9 mm with determination! Woo hoo for you and tomorrow's 5k!
Maura: Food offsets. :rotfl2: Love it, and that's exactly how I think. Bring on the beignets. Unfortunately, I'd have to do a marathon a week to offset my recent habit of noshing. I'm all about the summer, loving the sweet goodness of ice cream and iced drinks. It's good to hear you're adjusting to your bike and clipless pedals. That's such an adjustment, I would imagine. And it must be nice to have DH along for the ride--it sounds like he's quite supportive of all your events/endeavors.
Carrie: Being prepared to do a 1/2 a month is almost the same thing as doing one in my book. Both are impressive! :thumbsup2 Great job getting as much biking in as the weather would allow! I'd (temporarily) forgotten your tri is open water. It sounds like you're feeling pretty good about that these days--as you should. You're going to rock, which is a notch or two about "okay." And I expect a rocking RR, as well!
Vic: WTG with your three consecutive days of training. Maybe it's the effect of that authority figure you post from time to time. He's one tough-looking soldier, as are you. P.S. Don't worry about the leg cramps--just keep remembering to stretch after a good workout! ;)
Angie: It sounds as if you have found a solid marathon training program that reflects where your base will be in August. Woo hoo! What plan did you decide to go with? And yay for using your foam roller. Gotta love the visual evidence that you've been religiously following your exercises, and it sounds as if that has in part motivated you to continue employing good practices. That, and the pain-free results. I'm like you in a lot of ways--I'll do the right thing, feel good, then push myself and/or let the little things slide in my excitement to do more, more, more. So that's one reason (of many) why I appreciate your posts so much--it helps me by association. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Krista: Wow, wow, wow! Carter's an impatient soul, isn't he? My money is for a birth date of 8/6, which just happens to be my one-year wedding anniversary. Think you could arrange that. It would be quite useful to me, as I think I'm more likely to remember his birthday than an anniversary. Stephen's birthday would be an acceptable second choice, though! :lmao:
Cam: As usual, I love your posts. Just a little tidbit of your post to quote from and draw your attention to: I can really appreciate how far I've come. I am definitely excited and reassured and proud of my newfound ability to run and my passion for it. It's definitely refrigerator worthy! And it's also worth noting that you're faster than I am and I think I have a few leg inches on you. So you're really hustling, girl! :goodvibes Good luck with tomorrow's 5K!
Racey Tracy: I'll bet the lightning storm was pretty, from a distance at least. WTG on your 4 miles!
Leana: :cheer2: I know you've been training up a storm after checking your blog. Great job! (And love the Oakleys and new bike!) It really sounds like you've managed to balance your tri training and your marathon training so very well. So, you've joined your local Y? That sounds like it will be a big help with your continued tri training! Good luck with tomorrow's 18 miles!
Terri: Good luck with the Philly weather. We're across the state from one another, but the heat warnings here have been incessant. That's going to be quite a challenge, doing a 24-hour race in those conditions, even on a relay team.: I know you'll do fine, will stay as hydrated and cool as possible, but I'm sending good thoughts and PD your way anyway! pixiedust:
Jen: Just look over your logs for the last few weeks. You've been getting more runs and WOs in! Remember to take pride in those accomplishments! And you're so right--it's important that we all look at the progress we make using various measurents: scale, inches, appearance, races completed, miles logged, speed, perceived effort! Thanks for the reminder!
Stacie: Good luck with your 5K this weekend. You're going to do great, and it sounds like you get to sight-see in another town. I hope the weather is relatively cool for you. Is Matt running it with you?
Jen in GA: Although I really do like GoofyBaby as a name, you'd probably have to spend lots of time explaining the name to people. :lmao: I do think it would be fitting for you to go into Labor on Labor Day, if not much fun for the weekend. It sounds like you're feeling pretty good, what with you being able to tie your running shoes and all! :thumbsup2 (More than I can do sometimes.)
As for me: XT today, running tomorrow. Favorite cool-treat flavor of the week? Raspberry Truffle Gelato. Mmmmm.
Favorite planned activities this weekend? Either seeing The Dark Knight tonight (air-conditioned comfort *and* a Chris Nolan film!!) or watching the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Race at Schenley Park (http://www.pittsburghvintagegrandprix.com/674693121913514/site/default.asp). The latter is a big shout-out for all you NASCAR fans or Pgh transplants; I missed last year's events (just moved here) and I'm really looking forward to finding out what the hoopla's all about!
And in random soccer news, now a couple of days old. Ronaldinho goes to AC Milan! Buh-bye, Barcelona! What do our Milan followers think about the deal? (If you can tear yourselves away from the Tour de France and all its goings-on?)

Howard & Deb,
I've been an avid Blood Donor since high school. I have numerous donations in California, and a total of 96 here in Hawaii. So next year I make the century donor list, but if I could count those in California, I'd be well over the 100 mark. I'm considering going for 100 aspherisis donations next, but then I do want the running Mickey tattoo. :rolleyes1
Our local drive coordinator was really happy to have my Scout troop involved. She said it had been several years since a local troop hosted a drive.
My 13 girls are soon to be 4th and 5th graders. After hearing the presentation on what the Blood Bank is all about, they were ready to go all out in recruiting. Some girls didn't get any donors, while others made up for their goose eggs. Actually we were up to 42 donors, but 7 have backed out to other committments. We posted a banner up this week at the school, so hopefully we'll get walk ins.
Deb, do you know what "Cliffnotes" are? It's the abridged version of a story. Ho girl, I have to get a glass of water, a snack, and a comfortable chair to read your daily novels. LOL. :lmao: :rotfl:  Keep it up, and I'm going to need reading glasses. :3dglasses
PTA was the normal with Guru Les. 8.25 miles at a blistering pace of 8:22. Maybe my Garmin was slightly off. It felt like 8:40 minute pace, but I had drop out pauses when I was under trees and near the high rises in Waikiki. Could be the satellites were recently shifted in the sky. Who knows, but I was sexy sweaty at the end. The Queen ran the other way when I arrived home. :scared1:
Have a great Aloha Friday WISHers. If your racing, have fun. :cheer2:

Debra--I think you misread my post--Today was payday at the gym and I need to get my check. (I work there) That is a lot more motivation than paying for the gym would be!:rotfl2:

Krista - I was absolutely convinced that all first babies were late, so I still had a whole list of things to do the weekend before my due date (pack, buy film - nothing important, mind you :rotfl: ). Imagine my surprise when I went into labor a week early...
Cam - Somehow I always end up wiping tears after reading your posts. Your story is so inspirational, and knowing how far you've come keeps so many of us going. I'm sending many  , pixiedust: , and virtual cowbells (where's the smilie for that?) that the ever-elusive sub-40 5K will finally happen tomorrow. As the unofficial cheerleader for the WISH team, You SO deserve it! :cheer2:
Leana - Good luck on the 18 miles! Glad you're finding biking and swimming to be so much fun. And thanks for stopping by, although I'd checked in on your blog to make sure you were still around.
Terri - Wow! Can't wait to hear how your event goes. Please be careful, and keep an eye on other people too since they may not be as aware of what heat can do!
Stacie - I've looked at the 5K in Beaufort for a couple of years, but just never made it down there. You'll have to let me know how it is, and if it's truly too hot to stand.
GaJen - 9/8 is a good day... even if none of my family can remember that it's my birthday. They all seem to think it's the 9th...
Jeff - I was thinking about the Girl Scout blood drive the other day and wondering when it was. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get lots of walkups. Even if I could afford the flight, I'm not eligible until August 12!
Debra - There's news outside TDF? Oh yeah, I remember hearing something about Ronaldinho... I'm still holding my breath waiting for Man U and Ronaldo to stop bickering. Sir Alex says they've settled things, but I've heard that song before... And in ice cream news, DD tried Baskin Robbins' new Tropical Ice and proclaimed it "as good as a Dole Whip." I didn't quite second her opinion, but it's a really nice summer treat.
My news - Did W1D2 last night, but added a couple of intervals so I'd have a little extra mileage. First time I've ever actually been able to run on the high school track since they usually keep it locked up tight, and now I'm spoiled! Did the run segments at a faster pace than I usually run, hoping that in addition to training myself to run for longer periods maybe I can also run faster too. Had Howard's problem with shin splints early on, but they eased about halfway through - think I just went too fast too soon (okay, I do find it funny when I claim to be fast!) 10 mile run on tap with the group tomorrow with fartleks thrown in for fun - last person in the group has to run to the front, which requires a nice sprint to pass 20 people!

I just saw on the Disneyrunning.com forum that the volunteering is up.
I would love to do it if WISH does a water stop, maybe in the parking lot at TTC or the one at the endof the Magic kingdome or the one over by the AAA care care center or somewhere around there. That way if we want to get to the finish we would have time to do that, maybe hop on the monorail back over to EPCOT!!!

Ok i have to admit i've only read the last page thru lack of time, but have to agree the blood bank is a fantastic cause whether you run for it or give it to the vampires (Howard!). I have been a regular donor over here, mainly spurred on by the challenge of getting the next colour donation card (sad i know!).
Looks like this has been a fantastic running/walking week wishers- i made my longest run since minnie of 7.1miles in 64mins yesterday and got absolutely drowned in the ran- loved it loved it loved it :lovestruc Who says bad weather should stop ppl from running ;) I just looked at my nike plus graph for my run and it looks like the loch ness monster- i even had a running spurt at the end that looks like a head- :rotfl:

Really quick before the adrenaline wears off and I collapse from exhaustion.
Race this morning was EXCELLENT!!
I placed 3rd in my age group and even more exciting I ran it in under 28 minutes (27: 30 something by my watch and definitely in the 27s on the big clock I just didn't catch the second). That was my goal for the entire summer!! Now I have to find a new goal. Oh well, watch out 26 minutes I'm coming after you.

wellesleyprincess -- WTG!!!!! Fantastic job! :cheer2:
Had popped out here to see if there was anything started about a WISH volunteering station yet. See Tracy beat me to the question. :wave2: DH and I plan on volunteering for the full so would love to be part of a team effort. To do a team thing I'm guessing we need to coordinate it with Disney, yes? Think I remember something about that in a thread a while back. Would be more than happy to help with setting it up -just let me know. (or did I just volunteer....;) )
Ok, now to catch up on the rest of the posts...

I forget who is in charge of the volunteering for WDW Marathon weekend, Kristi or Diane???? Or maybe someone else.
I went to the web site and there is a number to call if a group of people wants to do something together.
I hope that whoever that person is calls soon to set something up. Again I think a water stop early on would be good or otherwise I would still volunteer for something during the Full.
Keeping up with my training for the DL Half. My new summer training scheduel is working so far. I traded my Saturday 4 miles to Friday and now on Saturday I am doing crosstraining. Today I was in the pool. Tomorrow I have an 8miler on tap.
Have a good day everyone.

Yeah wellesleyprincess, WTG on your 27 minutes.
I went out for my Sunday run today, 14 miles. Yes, I checked the calendar...:rotfl: I have table duty for the Marathon Clinic tomorrow, so I got my miles in today.
Following the clinic, I have to rush over to our Blood Mobile drive.
Have a great Saturday everyone. Going out the door soon to watch Wall-E, and then Hancock. Hopefully I don't fall asleep. :snooty:

Tracy I'd be willing to help at the marathon, too. Would definitely be game for a WISH-thing.
wellesleyprincess Great job on the race. I am totally jealous. Good luck on reaching for a new goal, but don't get injured.
Went for a great ride on my bike today with DH. 16 miles in just over an hour--apparently, I'm not a slug!

Debra -- raspberry truffle? Oh, man! That sounds fabulous!
Way to go, WellesleyPrincess!! Awesome, awesome time! :yay: :woohoo: So, do they give out any goodies to the top 3? My friend got a $20 gift card to a local restaurant/bar recently. I thought that was a very cool prize!
Angie -- So glad your 3 miles went well yeterday. Are you still feeling okay today?
Jackie -- Woohoo! on W1D2 - I am a HUGE C25K fan now, though I'm sorry about your shin splints. Do you think you went too fast to start? When I was doing long training sessions in the late fall, I found that almost consistently I'd get shin splints that would last the first 1.5-1.6 miles and then they were gone. I hope yours don't last that long. :goodvibes I hope you had fun with your fartlek session, though why are you running 2 days in a row, young lady?! Do I have to go all MOM on you? ;)
Tracy -- You are a darling! I thought about those cowbells quite a bit during my race today! I hope the heat and humidity aren't too bad for your 8 miler tomorrow. pixiedust:
smileyk8 -- :woohoo: on the 7.1!!! That pace is rockin!! I really like running in the rain, too, as long as it isn't cold and rainy.
Jeff -- 14 miles? I LOVE that I NEVER have to do 14 miles again. 13.1 is far enough! ;)
Maura -- I don't think there was ever a chance of anyone thinking you are a slug. Silly girl! 16 miles? WOW!!! :worship:
Carrie & Scott- Thinking of you both this weekend. I'm so glad you got your mini-tri training session in before heading away for the weekend. Sending you huge hugs!
Okay, first of all, thanks for all the good WISHes and all that awesome virtual cowbell that I heard in my head and thought of so much this morning.
The bad news is I was nowhere near sub 40:00. The heat and humidity kicked my butt and the sun was relentless on this fast and flat course. I'll face the same course again at an evening race on 8/13. I am hoping that is THE ONE.
The good -- my first mile was 11:32!!! That was so exciting!
My splits:
Mile 1 -- 11:32
Mile 2 -- 13:50
MIle 3 -- 14:36
Overal time 41:50 -- pace 13:20.
My friend who is a very accomplished runner said her time was a full 3 minutes slower than it usually is on this course. The winners in the various divisions were at least 1-2 minutes slower than we normally see. It made my delay in reaching my goal a bit more tolerable.
I'd like to think that once I get sub-40:00 the improvements to endurance and speed will continue. Right now, that is the pot of gold at the end of my rainbow.
Thank you to everyone for the support. :grouphug:
BTW, sorry to go on and on in so much detail, but I know how much I depend on hearing about the good times and the bad and the struggles and the factors that impact our performances among my teammates. The most important lesson I have learned on this journey is that the best we can do on any given day is the best we should do. So many circumstances are beyond our control -- weather conditions, course conditions, an untied shoelace, crowds, etc.. We can only control our attitudes and our effort under the circumstances. We need to go into it with the best attitude we can and give the best we have in us at the time. Thank you for teaching me this. Otherwise, it would be easy to view a delay in reaching my goal as a failure.

Cam Attitude and effort--you are so right. I used to work for a boss who is now VP of engineering and I remember once we did a teach session on a new initative for the higher level managers. And after going through all the exercises, the main message was that success depended on attitude and effort. My thought at the time was "you're kidding, right? This is too sappy" Darned if he wasn't entirely right, and it finally sunk in at the age of 40! My DS probably wishes it hadn't, because I quote this to him regulalry, especially around report card time!
So congrats on your race. You won, and will do even better next time.

Hi Maura!
Jeff: I am an 8+ Gallon donor with the Blood Bank of Delmarv and had donated regularly when I lived in the Pittsburgh area years ago. I am scheduled for platelet pheresis this coming Friday.
The Blood Bank of Delmarva's 5K held earlier today had 610 participants. A pretty good turn out for one of the hottest mornings of the year. Cam did a great job! I worked it since I am empoyed by the Blood Bank of Delmarva. I was relegated to running my 5 miles later in the day around 5:30 PM in conditions similar or worse to 8:30 AM this morning.
Here is what happened:
Miles: 5.04
Time: 47:11
Pace: 9:21
Splits:
9:04
9:16
9:27
9:31
9:35
I sure hope everyone is keeping cool and well hydrated in all this heat!
I think I have 6 miles on tap for tomorrow. I will probably get out there early. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
