View Full Version : Where does everyone buy things to decorate your room window?

I really, really want to decorate our room window at the Pop (even though I am sure my DH will think I am nuts...he already does so I guess it's okay). I just don't know where I should start looking for cute things to decorate with. I do have a few LGMH from Home Depot but that's it. I wanted some lights but couldn't really find any. I also don't want to spend too much $ as we need to save it for Disney!! I was thinking of stopping into Michael's as that is the only craft store we have here. Any recommendations on where to get things or even ideas from? There is less than 2 months until we leave and I am needing something to keep me busy so I don't go crazy counting down the seconds!

I have read where people have bought those window clingy things at the Dollar Tree. I am going to look there. Also, eBay has tons of Disney stuff.

Yeah, I did try the Dollar Tree a month or two back and didn't see anything there...maybe I missed it. I am going to look around on eBay now for some clings...thanks for the idea on that. I have a hard time looking on eBay because I am not very creative so I don't know exactly what all I should be searching for in the first place, LOL. Anyone have pictures of their room window?

Beside the MH at Home Depot, you can try Michaels, AC Moore, Target. You can use curling ribbon, you know the type that comes solid or muti colored for the top of a gift box or bag; Disney themed stuffed or plastic characters along the window base and small twinkle or solid colored lights.
You can go on Creative DISigns on the board here, just scroll down near the bottom and have different items made up with your names or messages on them to place in the window. The people there are great and can make up just about any sign or what have you.
Also there are several blogs all about decorating resort windows and doors here. Most have pictues too that will help give you ideas. Try under Disney Resorts.
Hope this helps.

You can also buy window cling film at an office supply store and make your own Disney window clings too.

We were down there last year the last week of Sept-first week of Oct and went to the MNSSHP, so we decorated our window for Halloween. I bought a set of purple miniature lights to go around the window. Then I found a really cute poster on ebay that a seller in China had. I only paid like .01, plus $2.99 shipping for it. It was a Halloween poster from Disney Hong Kong. It had the Hong Kong castle with different Disney characters in Halloween costumes running down a path from the castle, with a bunch of ghosts chasing them. I put that in the middle of my window, then ordered some cute Disney Halloween clings that had all the characters dressed in costumes from a couple of sellers on ebay to go around it and put the purple lights around the edge of the window. The Dollar Store had some very small glow in the dark skeletons that I also scattered around the window and I picked up a few purple, orange, lime green, and black Mickey Heads from Home Depot that I then cut out and taped on the window. I put little small cheap jack-o-lantern pots on the window sill and filled them with candy corn and also bought a small bag of those tiny real decorative pumpkins at Wall Mart, that I piled up in one corner of the window. I cut out some more orange and black Mickey Heads, glued them back to back, poked holes in them, strung them on some 1/4" black ribbon to make a long garland which I then taped around our door. I cut out more Lime Green Mickey heads, glued magnets to the back and covered our door with them. We're going to be down there about the same time you are this year and since we are again going to the MNSSHP, I'll probably carry the same decorations back, though I'll have to make another garland and get another bag of tiny pumpkins, since I threw those away last year. Other than the little jack-o-lantern pots and little bag or decorative pumpkins, everything else was flat so, didn't take up any room in the suitcase.

For cheap window decorations that don't take up much space, how about picking up a Disney poster at Wal Mart. I know I've seen some cute Tinkerbell ones. Roll it up and stick it inside some paper towel rolls to protect it, then stick it in your carry on. Tape it in the middle of the window. Get some Mickey Heads in alot of different colors at Home Depot, cut them out, glue them back to back, punch a hole in them, string them on different colored curly ribbon and tape them so that they hang in different lengths in the window. You could also write your names on some of them. Use a set of small white blinking Christmas lights to go around the window. You could then just scatter some extra Mickey Heads on the window sill. Cut out a bunch of lime green Mickey Heads, glue magnets to the back and stick on your door. I also usually get one of those curly ribbon bows at Wal Mart and tie around our door handle. These would be cheap and wouldn't take up hardly any space in your luggage.
If you don't want to use a poster in the center of the window, go to the Dollar Store and pick up a Disney balloon, but don't have it blown up, just tape it flat in the center of the window and put your Home Depot Mickey Heads around it.

It would be a little more expensive, but if you go on ebay and type in Disney lights, you can usually find some cute lights to go around your window. Personally, I just use a string of small white blinking lights that I use at Christmas. I also have an old set of tiny blue Christmas lights that I don't use at Christmas anymore, so I take them sometimes. On ebay you can also type in just Disney window clings. They have some really cute (but expensive) ones. If you have a favorite Disney character, just type that character's name in, and see what comes up. I know I got some really cute small Tinkerbell pinatas, a poster, party favors, a window valance, a small cardboard Tink box, a paperweight, small figurines, etc doing that. I then got some sparkly confetti that I used as Pixie dust on the window sill along with the box, paperweight, and figurines. They made a really cute Tinkerbell themed resort window that trip. You might also just ask family or friends. You might be surprised at what people have just collecting dust. If you have a Party Store anywhere around you, check in there for some ideas. They have a bunch of Cars, Princess, Tinkerbell and a bunch of Hawaiian luau type stuff that'd be cute.
I just went to Staples and purchased some window cling sheets. They were not too expensive. I then went to the wonderful DisSign board and have found some wonderful designs. I printed them on the sheets and they are ready to go to be put on my window at the resort.

For our Mardi Gras trip earlier this year I had some people in our map group print a huge picture of Les Miles holding the BCS crystal football. This was proudly displayed in our window at Pop Century along with Mardi Gras decorations. Priceless!!

I second this one - I just bought a package last week. :thumbsup2
At "my" store they were on the wall with the toys - there was sort of a whole Disney section and they were mixed in there. They had Princesses and Cars for sure - I think a Mickey set, and maybe another one.
Since we're going around Halloween, I told DH we are decorating our window too. We already have a few Disney Halloween things though.
Good luck!

I've never made my own window clings before and was excited to give it a try, so I bought what I thought was window cling transfer paper @Office Depot...but now I realize the package says Window Decals...did I get the right thing???? :confused3

I haven't found any window clings @my $ Stores either...I have tried Dollar General, Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, etc...I have bought some on ebay but hate to pay + shipping but I guess with the price of gas what it is it doesn't make much difference!
I am also looking for purple, pink, etc colored lights (not Christmasy colors!) any ideas where I can look this time of year?
:thanks:
Saw some Winnie the Pooh ones @Dollar Tree today!

I found some at Deals (another store like Dollar Tree) and Dollar Tree. The selection was mostly Pooh and Princesses, DS won't be happy but I found some Cars foamie things to use too. I didn't even think about Halloween decorations though because we're going over Labor Day but we are going for MNSSHP so now I have to go shopping again...darn! I love Dollar Tree for this kind of stuff, I don't want to spend much but it makes it more fun planning.
Oh! And I found some Cars and Little Mermaid wipe boards at Target in the dollar spot I will use too, they are magnetic.

Found this @Party America for our door @Pop! Any suggestions on where/how I can find pictures of the following characters (Belle, Tink, Cinderella, Aurora and Snow White are the Divas alter egos!) to attach to this?!?!? :cutie:

The dollar store in my town is presently carrying many Disney figurines. They are small and would line up nicely along the bottom window sill. They have all the basic figures - Poo, Tigger, Eyore, ect and even Nemo. If I had a trip coming up I would probably buy them all.
My trip last year I just made one easy to pack small poster with lime green mickeys ( and a few other colors). Then I took the inner liner of the curtain and made a swing for my stuffed animals. It was fun and I missed doing it at Saratoga.

Are moderate and up resorts prone to having outside windows that people could see your decorations from or are we only going to have the door to work with?
I'd like to know so I can start preparing my crafts! How much trouble has
anyone had getting this stuff squished into their checked baggage if flying
to Disney??

Good question...we drove last time so it wasn't an issue but we are flying next time and using ME...I was thinking about putting all my decorations (including lights, extension cords and timers) in my carry on so I don't have to wait for my luggage to decorate! However, I am worried TSA may question above mentioned items?!?!? Anybody have any experience with this??? :worried:

Aristocats lover- How did you attached all the stuff you did with your cricut to the window?
aristocats_lover
07-17-2008, 06:10 AM
I attached the garland on the sides, ribbon hangers, and princess hangers with small suction cups purchased at the Dollar Store (like 100 in a bag). And the Cricut stuff I attach with small pieces of tape. It's very easy to remove.
However, last time the previous people left tape on the window! I took it down for them, I don't want Disney to put a ban on window decorating because people leave their tape!
But as far as tape removal, from windows and doors we've never had a problem.

HELP!
I bought some magnetic paper (not cheap, $6.99 for 3 sheets @Hobby Lobby) to print out some characters to decorate our door @Pop in September.
When I go to print what I want on it the top of the character's head is cut off! The rest of the image is fine...it seems like the printer doesn't start printing right away????
Do I need to adjust my printer settings? To what?
(The magnetic paper is thicker than regular paper.)
I hope some one has some experience with this because I don't want to waste any more paper!

Sounds like the thicker paper isn't pulling into the printer as fast as copy paper will. Does your printer have an adjustment for thicker paper (i.e. card stock or something like that). You'll have to look in your manual.
The other choice, and one I use often, is to design your item and then take it to Kinkos (and probably other office supply stores) and let them print it (some locations you can upload your item to their website, otherwise burn it on a CD or DVD or even a USB device). They typically have a higher quality printer (my Kinkos has a color LASER printer, whereas all I have is a color inkjet), and if it doesn't print out THEY eat the paper wasted not me. You have to buy the magnetic paper from them, and here it's about $5 a sheet, so it's more expensive piece-wise....but with no waste it's cheaper in the long run. They also do banners which is typically what I am printing out....they can do them 11" wide and as long as you want. Great for parties!
A caution....one of the stores in town will not print out Disney (or any copyrighted character), but the others in town will, so if at first you are turned away, try another store. I'm thinking they are likely franchises so each owner makes their own rules.

We were there last week and decorated our windows. Seems we were the only ones. We had several little kids crying because their windows did not look like ours and wanted to know why.
I made signs on our computer. Made a border of our favorite character with Welcome Back, Happy Birthday, Happy Anniversary and first trip for each of the 11 people that went and put them inside clear protector sheets and hung them in the window along with Mickey Heads.

I was tempted to buy a Cricut machine while I was just at Walmart, but I knew my husband would kill me. Especially just to make those cute signs. So I actually found some cute foam letters and I'll just figure something out with those. Do you get a lot of use out of it? I keep saying I'm going to scrapbook and never get around to it.
