Hi!
I still have lots of questions that I would love to have the answers to and I was thinking that there might be others that have questions also and so I thought I would throw this out there and see how it went!:goodvibes

I will kick this off with the first couple of questions!

1) What are stickles? Are there any photos that have been posted so that I/we can see how they are used?

2) Prima Flowers? Same questions as in question 1.

3) I have heard of Bazzille Paper and I probably even have this in my scrapbooks, but why is it so important? Is it the best paper you can get?

4) Paper Piecing=Cricut? To stay with this group will I eventually have to have one and use it?

I really enjoy reading all of these threads and your conversations and I am veru happy to have come across this group!

If any other newbies have questions I hope you will post them as I think we could all learn from this!

1) What are stickles? Are there any photos that have been posted so that I/we can see how they are used?
Stickles is a glittery glue that makes your elements pop if you choose to use them.. here is a link http://www.rangerink.com/products/prod_decorativeglue_stickles.htm

There are others on here that use it more and can give you a lot more info..

2) Prima Flowers? Same questions as in question 1.
Here is the link I use... http://www.scrapjazz.com/topics/Techniques/Flowers/881.php

3) I have heard of Bazzille Paper and I probably even have this in my scrapbooks, but why is it so important? Is it the best paper you can get?

Bazzill paper is great quality.. not something I always use but not opposed to it at all.. here is a good link...http://bazzillbasics.com/

4) Paper Piecing=Cricut? To stay with this group will I eventually have to have one and use it?
ABSOLUTELY NOT!! You do not have to have a cricut to do this.. several of our swappers/scrappers create their own out of many layers w/ coloring pages!!! Yep, just plain old coloring pages, computer and colored cardstock..
Here are a few links I have used in the past..
http://scrapbooking.about.com/od/freepatterns/Free_Paper_Piecing_Patterns.htm
http://www.scrapjazz.com/topics/Techniques/Paper_Piecing/46.php

Hope that helps a little.. Any more questions just let any of us know!!! :)

I will kick this off with the first couple of questions!

1) What are stickles? Are there any photos that have been posted so that I/we can see how they are used?

glitter glue, with a very fine nozzle so it is easy to apply. scrapbookpal.com carries it. I have shopped there often without any problems. In the photo, I used stickles on the letters for Carnival

2) Prima Flowers? Same questions as in question 1.

Paper flowers, Alexwyattmommy used them in this layout. Prima is a name brand. There are other makers of paper flowers.

3) I have heard of Bazzille Paper and I probably even have this in my scrapbooks, but why is it so important? Is it the best paper you can get?
I suppose that is a matter of opinion, but yes, it is very good quality paper. Many different colors and textures.

4) Paper Piecing=Cricut? To stay with this group will I eventually have to have one and use it?No. You do not need a cricut or any othercutting machine - -quikcutz, wishblade etc. A paper piecing is almost never required.
Here are two paper piecings -- this one cut out by hand and pieced together

Hopemax made this one
http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg72/susanbillings/MK%20swap/IMGP8978.jpg

and here is a cricut one -- difference is the cricut did the cutting work, Tigger1221 did this one

I posted a picture in the Topper and Tag thread with my Mickey on a tube of paint. Not sure what post, but I believe it is second to last page. Stickles are great. They are basically glitter glue in a bottle.

2) Prima Flowers? Same questions as in question 1.
These are a popular brand of the paper flowers you can use on your pages. I have seen some post with them, but do not recall where.

3) I have heard of Bazzille Paper and I probably even have this in my scrapbooks, but why is it so important? Is it the best paper you can get?
This is a brand of cardstock that has texture to it and is heavy weight. I have like this brand a lot. I like the feel and look of it.

4) Paper Piecing=Cricut? To stay with this group will I eventually have to have one and use it?
No you do not to have a cricut to swap. I do a lot of my paper piecings my hand, but I do use my cricut. Once you get rolling with scrapbooking and get some supplies built up you probably will like to get one or another cutting machine. I was not interested in it 2 yrs ago and I have been scrapping for 11. The bug hit me and I love it.

I hope that helps you out some. Scrapping does become a little overwhelming at times, but soon it will be a snap to you. There are things out there that I have no idea what they are or how to use them and I have been scrapping for 11 yrs. Yesterday I just bought some flock. Everyone here has been talking about it, so I wanted to try it out. I have no idea how to use it, but I know I can find help here.

All great answers.
But on my piXie dust pages, those are felt flowers with rhinestone bling in the middle.
These pages have the Prima brand paper flowers.

Cricut can make your life easier, but I still make lots of things without it.

Hi!
3) I have heard of Bazzille Paper and I probably even have this in my scrapbooks, but why is it so important? Is it the best paper you can get?

You got the answers to what it is. Now some pertinent AZ information. The company is headquartered in Chandler. The wife of the guy who runs Bazzill Basics Paper operates a scrapbook store in Mesa called Scrapbooks Etc. It's at University & Lindsay. It would be a bit of a drive for you, but it is a huge store, and they stock every color. Also, in September to coincide with the Creating Keepsakes convention Bazzill will have a warehouse sale. There you can buy discontinued and overstock products. A 12x12 "pizza box" was $20 last year, $15 for an 8.5 x 11 "pizza box." You can fit about 120 sheets in a box. Normally, it retails for 50 cents or 30 cents a sheet (I think they just had a price increase, and I don't know what they are charging now for it.)

i would love to go to that sale in september.

do you think i can talk dh into taking me to AZ in september just for this!!!!!

*I'm* trying to figure out how I can get myself to AZ for the sale! But without the cheap airfare, I don't think I can manage it. But I've been trying to figure out if I flew in early, and flew out the same day, with my one rolling carry-on...

Instead, I need to find out when the Utah manufacturers, like Making Memories, have their warehouse sale, and try to hit that instead. I need to go over there to go to the Family History Library, so it would be easier to convince DH to take a weekend trip.

My other plan, is we have friends who are moving back to the area, and she scraps, so send her to the sale to shop for me and stuff everything into one or 2 flat rate boxes.

Hi Rita. Just wanted to add my two cents as well.

1) If you receive any of my things from the Surprise Swap, you will see Stickles first hand - I'm pretty sure I put Stickles on everything I made. :goodvibes I LOVE Stickles. If you look on Ebay, you can buy groups of them (usually any color choices) for cheaper than you buy at the store or online. I have all the colors, and use them a lot. They can be quite addictive though!

4) As far as owning a Cricut, let's just say that I didn't have one until I joined this group. :rotfl2: In just 5 months here, I own the Expression and oh... 21 cartridges! So beware the Cricut cult - it's powerful and in no time you'll be wearing the jumpsuits and drinking the Kool-aid too! :thumbsup2 But that's not to say I don't still use the old school technique of paper piecing. In fact for the Surprise Swap, I made a Lady and the Tramp - using just a coloring page that I printed each piece on it's own color and then cut by hand. One of the better things about this method is I can choose to layer things using pop-dots, like I did with L&T (his head is raised and her right ear is). That's not so easy with the Cricut on some pieces.

http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj247/krans_76/Scrapbooking/IMG_5176.jpg

In just a short amount of time, you'll be a swapping vet - no worries! And welcome to our group!

I've been using stickles to adhere my skittles:rotfl: I LOVE them - they have some lovely colours (and yes they are addictive!) They do take a LONG time to dry, so make sure you have a kid-and-pet-free surface to leave them on while they dry;) Overnight is best:thumbsup2

Hey I have not tried that! Does the glitter show through the skittle? That sounds neat.

and since skittles came up... here's a picture of them. (they were at michael's as well kind of in the flower section, they were really called something like decorative accents) you can die them with alcolol inks (toss them into a ziplock bag, add a few drops of ink and then shake) or you can colour them with sharpie markers (only have to colour the flat bottom of it) you can then adhere them with glue dots to your page.

Thank you ladies for all the great answers!!:yay:
I think I'm still going to stay away from the Cricut andother cutters for awhile. I'm still in Swapping 101 and that is at least 201!

:flower3: Kat, I just wanted to say thank you for showing me the things you did and I still would like to go out to your Michaels. I really like those little accent beads (do you think after reading I can remeber the name~no! Skittles?)If its the same Roger, I got to see that and its so delicate!
I think I would like working with Skittles and Stickles! At Christmas in our classrooms I'm known for glitter and glue!
I think on the 8x8 swap someone made a Minnie with a bow, is the bow in Stickles?

:flower3: Thank you everyone for posting photos! I am a visual learner.

:flower3: Hope, Buffy and anyone else who wants to come, I am a great tour guide and the first stop would be this store in Mesa!
Come on down! My van seats 7 and Kat gets shotgun!
Hope I've heard we have some great stores in Mesa but have never been out there to investigate.

:flower3: I hope that any other newbies out there who come across this can see how great you ladies really are! And how patient !!:grouphug:

When you all talk about embellished in 2 ways, could you give me more examples? I'm curious about the 3x5 swap and I understand about double matting but I would still like more examples of "2 ways".
Went to M's and saw Prima's but could not find any Skittles.
Went onto the Scrapping thread, Buffy are you in charge of some big convention? What do the initials stand for?
Thanks again!

What initials? SDV?? It's an east coast scrapbook retreat. Scrapbook Dream Vacations. I'm not in charge of it, but I am obsessed with it! LOL

Dreameventsinc.com has an annual 4 day crop at Disneyworld, and this year 15 of us are signed up to go. They have other crops all up and down the east coast but who can pass up WDW and Scrapping!

Wanna come???? ;)

A reason to post more photos!

Embellished two ways:
First, alwyas check the sign up thread. It does vary sometimes depending on the hostess. Inparticular, some hostesses will count a 3rd layer as an embellishment, or fancy paper as an embellishment -- something glittered, embossed or flocked, sometimes any patterned paper will count

some examples
brads in the corners, and inked edges
ribbon or fiber and eyelets
letters and brads

Thank you Susan! And you made the Minnie I mentioned earlier? Is her bow done in Stickles or did you use a special paper?
I LOVE photos! It makes me want to do more on my pages. I was going to join the scrapping thread where they keep track of pages but Im so inconsistant right now that I dont think I should.

Buffy, I would love to come! Maybe next year I can escape from "life" and come play!

Yep -- these are all mine. The Minnie bow is not stickles. It was from a DCVW Glitter Paper Stack.

Oh -- a pet peeve of mine -- all of those photomats fit a 4x6 photo without being cropped. The embellishments are adhered so the photo can slide under them.

Thought of another one!
Alphabet, what do you use, and if stencils are used where do you get them? I am limited as befor the TNT swap I have only used stamps(Stampin Up) and stickers. Dh helped use computer for TNT title.
Susan, love your work! Minnie, is that paper piecing?

Yes, Minnie is a paper piecing -- a cricut one.

Alphabets -- I use cricut die cut letters or computer printed titles. It takes me forever to deal with sticker letters, but I have used creative memories letters. Stamps are good too,

I'v used alphastacs (SP?) as well for lettering. Computer titles are great as you can find different fonts and effects and print however many you need really quickly:thumbsup2

Join the monthly/annual challenge threads - my DS(8) is on there and he probably only registers pages once every other month, but he's managed to move up to the second level and is very proud of himself:goodvibes

And some swaps (like recipe swaps) count as pages:thumbsup2 And pages done with swap items count for the challenge AND the "scrapping with swapped items" challenges:banana:

Before I get involved in too many swaps I have read that in the secret santa swap that the final present must be handmade (of course! we are crafters)

!)Is there going to be a secret santa this year?
2) What are the requirements from past swaps?
3) Couls someone please just tell me generally about this swap so I could possibly decide if I would like to join?
Im afraid that my work wouldnt be good enough and Im also concerned about the time contraints.
I know, its only July, but really its only 5 months away!:goodvibes
No, I will not say the "C" word! Too scary, blame Hallmark!:scared1:
There are a couple of swaps Im interested in but I did make the promise of only doing what I thought I could handle!
Thanks!

1) more than likely, Mickeyteacher and I usually co host.
2) requirements are getting gifts for your Secret sister from the questionnaire they fill out.
3) Basically you fill out a questionnaire and we pick a sister for you, then we shop from the list, max is usually $15 - $20 (I think) per mailing, then mail it. You can use the hostesses return address to throw off your SS. Some stuff is hand made but not all of it.
Then you reveal yourself in your last package.
If you have questions for your SS you funnel them through the hostess or create a new user name and mess with your SS.
4) I hear ya about the C word. Heck I'm not ready to hear about the kids going back to school!
