How many leave their pets in their camper during the day? We went 2 years ago and used the kennel during the day, but did leave our dog in the camper a few times at night. Just wondering what most do.

We have tiny dogs, yorkie and maltese, and we keep ours in the RV at all times (they are indoor dogs).

We have a medium dog and a large dog and we leave them in the motor home any time that we are gone. Since we go back during the day to let my DD3 (4 tomorrow) rest, they are given plenty of outside time also. We are big fans of the new dog run.

The Wonder Beagle stays in daycare while we are gone during the day, and comes back to the Condo on Wheels for the night.

If I am there when Carol is down, I will be waiting for her to go for the day and turning Mickey loose in the Mouseket@b.

Our dog is small, but I worry about him whining or barking. Do any of you worry about the power going off while you are away?

We leave our dogs in the TT. The first time she was young and stayed in the crate, she's a big girl now and roams free. We never leave for more than 5 hours at a time. We go during late fall and winter so if the electric went out it wouldn't be tragic, but yes I do worry about that. They are not barkers, but we leave the shades up in the windows that you can't see passers by and close those where people and dogs will be visible outside.

We keep our huskies at camp except when we leave the Fort. We just drive to most places and drop them off at the Fort kennel on the way out. We do take them to epcot cause you can park near the epcot kennel, which is close to the gate. We leave them at the Fort kennel and take the boat to mk. After about 6 hours we go back to camp for a midday lunch break and take the dogs out for a while, then go back to the park. We relax and take our time, so getting the dogs out for a break is just part of our day's enjoyment.

Our last trip to FW our beloved beagle died one week before we left for WDW so our plans to take her didn't pan out :sad1: but we now have another doggie a cockapoo that we will be taking next year whenever we go back to the fort.

Our dog has always stayed in the camper during the day we try never to leave the camper for more that about 4 hours so if anything was to happen hopefully it wouldn't be to bad. We also try to camp in the cooler months, if we camp in the dead of summer we are always close by the camper.

Also I noticed while at the fort that the service workers are all over the parks and I know that if power was to go out in one of the pet loops that they would be right on it for the sake of the animals.

I have a sticker that I have placed onto our emergency window of our camper that states we have a dog inside so assist if needed...I got it from the Animal Sheltor so maybe your area carries the same thing so as to make people aware to flip your breaker. I only leave on the radio a fan and the air conditioner so that shouldn't cause the breaker to cut out by overloading it.

The only way you can tell if you really have a barker or not is to just put him/her in the camper and pretend to leave, that will tell you the tale...hopefully if you do have a barker animal lovers around you will understand...the camper a couple spaces up from us had a cute doggie that barked it's poor little head off the whole time his family was gone, it was quite as a mouse whenever they were there, we never said anything to them because I didn't want to spoil their time and I totally understood how you love a pet and want it with you, I couldn't rest if my pet was left at home because I haven't any pet loving friends that I could trust.

I have tryed to train my dog to look out the window and not bark at people and noises so hopefully this will pay off for me whenever we go back to disney we have a nice big window for him to look out of in the camper too.

Funny story....

One time our maltese locked us out of the RV!! She was stepping on the arm of the chair to look out at us and she slipped and hit the door locks

We had to get her really excited and after about an hour of sweet talking her, she stepped on it again and unlocked the doors :rotfl:

lesson learned: always keep a spare set of keys with us when outside :rotfl2:

We leave our pets in the RV. I like the idea of a sticker to notify emergency personnel that there are animals on board. We come back for afternoon rests so haven't had a problem.

My funny story. Our kids were 8 years old when we got our first RV. We were in Galveston, Texas and I made an off comment that I hoped the camper didn't catch on fire. We left for Moody Gardens and the whole time we were there, my son was ready to leave, anxious and not having a good time. He finally told us why. He heard my comment about the camper catching on fire and was worried about our dog Buster...so he opened the emergency window exit so Buster could leave in case of a fire...only to get to Moody Gardens and realize that Buster could get out and run away. He was thinkin' just not thinkin' all the way. ;)

Our dogs stay in a crate while we are away. We also have one of those "pets on board-please rescue" signs for the front window. Most of the time when we are camping we are around the campground. If we are going to be gone all day (like at Disney) then we make plans to come back in the afternoon for awhile so the dogs can eat/play outside for awhile.

Leaving our 3 yr old dog at home isn't an option for us. He has MAJOR anxiety issues and can't be left at a kennel or with someone else. He needs to be with us and familiar surroundings. He's part of the reason we got a motorhome. We've had two dog trainers and even a dog therapist and tried every kind of natural cure/training possible. Now he is on medication to try to help.

Actually, we did get a female puppy and she does help distract him and wear him out from playing all day. When we are at home that is. While on the road he is always "on guard".

We leave our camping dog home when we go to the Fort. Too long of a drive for her liking and we are gone to much and I wouldn't want to have to worry about her while we were in the parks. She stays home and her grandparents take care of her along with our other dog and cat. Neither of whom like to travel. They are homebodies.

yup, we leave them in the camper.. this last trip to the smokies, the discovered they could see out the windows. so, now they bark at all the dogs. not sure how the new rig is going to be. but, duke already discovered he can sit on the back of the couch to see out the window..

like everyone else we go back every so many hours to let them out and excercise them. we will close the shades sometimes to help keep the sun out.

we also travel with others. we had bought a lock box for on our house, and now put it on our camper when we are parked. the folks in our group know the code and can let the dogs out if they go back early, etc.. it has worked out quite good for us.

We leave our two Yorkies in the trailer, but always come back at least 4 to 6 hours to pot them. We have a center hall that is like 10' long and is basically in the middle of the trailer front to back. We put them in there with their beds with a child gate at each end so they are isolated in the middle of the trailer with no windows to look out of. Even if they were to bark I don't think you could hear them unless you were like 5 ft. from the trailer and it was quiet and we have never lost power at FW to my knowledge.

Finally, now we don't camp at FW during the hot months and try and go when school is in except for Xmas.

We were only able to take our dog 1 time. A 75lb Doberman. We kept her in our TT with the radio on when we were at the parks, but always came back after a few hours. She was one of the reasons we got a RV. She didn't like to be left home/ lots of anxiety. She sat quietly in our car for 19 hours of driving to Disney-
We were going to take her again, but we had to put her down a few days before our next trip. We almost didn't go on that trip. We were all so sad.:sad1:

Her dog bed took up the whole width of the trailer so we would have to step over her to get by. She just laid there like a queen.

Boy, do I miss her.

We take our dogs on most trips, except disney. While we are gone we have to put them in their kennels though. We are pretty sure it is the little one (Gretchen) getting into trouble, but can't tell.

Funny story. This last trip I decided to let the big one (Gibson) stay out of the kennel and put Gretchen in the kennel while I went to do laundry. Well, Gibson let Gretchen out of her kennel and she got on my bed and pooped and peed. I was ticked. I kicked her out of the camper and almost did not let her back in. She peed all over dh's laptop case (luckily he had not put it back in). We had to toss that (and he does not like his new one) and a long pillow and the mattress protector as the CG washers were small. Still can't figure out how Gibson got it open. I know he had locked the cat IN the kennel before, but opening it is a whole other story. I am going to try this again at home, only lock her in the kennel in the bathroom with the door closed. If he manages to open the door and the kennel, I am going on Jay Leno. :confused3

We have two yorkies which we leave in our rv. We leave the tv on in the hope that they won't bark at everything that passes within a ten mile radius. We usually come back every 4 hours either with a tired grandchild or just a tired grandparent. We've never had a problem, but I hope someone would rescue them if needed.

Guess we are the only cat owners, our two Siamese go everywhere with us. We have the rescue sign on the front door, too. We also had one of the cats step on the power door lock but DW was still inside so now there is always a set of keys by the door so we never go outside without them.

Well, I probably won't be much help as when I go to FW and I litterly really am going to FW. DH and I have been so many times to the parks that even if we did decide to go in one we'd only stay a few hours, so we'd leave the kids in the camper. Mainly though, we just eat, shop ride our bikes or just hang out at the camp site, so "if" we leave them we don't leave them alone for more than an hour or two. :) This our "family" vacation that's why we bought a camper again, otherwise...I'd stick to cruising. :)
