In another thread we had some discussion of trying for a meet of those DISers heading down to MouseFest.

Thursday, Dec 11, is the official MK day, but the official MouseFest meets don't really start until after noon, so I thought it would be a good time to have a DIS meet.

If you're going to be in the MK area on Dec 11, whether you're planning to attend MouseFest or not, why not get together and have a nice breakfast, either in the park or in one of the nearby resorts?

Let me know your preference for restaurant, and for time of the morning, and when we get a group signed up I'll call for an ADR. It will be sometime between 8am and 11am.

My personal preference is for Kona Cafe, but majority rules - we'll try whichever restaurant that the majority of the group wants.

We're already past the 180-day mark for the ADR, so we may not be able to get exactly the time we want, but when I make the ADR I will get the closest that I can.

UPDATE: Kona Cafe is completely booked for Dec 11-13. Our second choice, The Wave at the Contemporary, doesn't take large groups. My backup-backup is thus Boarwright's, in Port Orleans Riverside. I know it's out of the MK area, but the MK area restaurants book up fast, and Boatwright's does not. But Boatwright's is a terrific place, so I know we'll all have a great breakfast. And Boatwright's has Banana Stuffed French Toast, just like Kona's famous Tonga Toast!

Click here for the complete Boatwright's menu (http://allears.net/menu/menu_bwb.htm)

If transportation is an issue, let me know - I will attempt to set up carpooling, and maybe we can get some courtesy vans from the resort to pick some of us up in the morning (no guarantees, but I was able to do this once at Kona). If you will need transportation, let me know where you will be staying and we'll work something out.

Well, so far everybody who has voiced a preference has voted for Kona Cafe, so unless we get flooded with new signups by the deadline, I guess we'll be eating at Kona.

I've got some LGMHs already, I just need to figure out how best to attach them to my park gear.

Yup, LGMH = Lime Green Mickey Heads.

I have a Home Depot nearby that I pass every day on the way home from work, so I can easily pick up a bunch every so often.

I'd like to attend. I don't have a restaurant reference. I will probably not be able to attend unless it's 9:00 pm or later because I'll be taking Disney transportation and coming from Pop Century. So it will be bus and monerail if it's at Kona. Jackie

I'll put you on the list, but we won't know for sure what time it will be until I get the ADR. Since we're well inside the 180-day mark, we'll have to take whatever we can get, but I will be trying for something between 8am and 11am.

I honestly believe the first Pop bus starts running at 630am
I took it a few mornings for character breakfasts. Once it stopped at Contemporary on the way to MK. Another morn I took the bus to MK and monorail to Poly.
You honestly may be ok taking the bus from Pop - ask a bus driver at Pop what time the early character brkfst bus starts running

And I see nobody's mentioned it, but has anyone considered The Wave, over at the Contemporary? It's new, is getting some good reviews, and they do breakfast. Maybe if it's too hard to get Kona, we can try there? Otherwise, Kona is fine for me.

I'll be arriving 12/9, staying offsite, have car, so anywhere is okay.

Well, Kona is the overwhelming winner of the vote, so Kona it is.

I will call tomorrow to make our ADR, though it may take some time - large groups can't make ADRs on the Disney Dining Line, they refer you directly to the restaurant, where you have to leave a message and wait for the restaurant manager to call you. I made one recently for a Tagrel.com meet at Trails End (50 people for dinner on Wednesday night before the DIS breakfast) and it took me over a week to finally get through to someone who could make the ADR!

When I get the ADR, I will post the exact time here, both as a new post and on the first post of the thread.

Since we are well within the 180-day mark, we may have difficulty getting a good time for our group. I'm going to try for 8am first, but Kona likes to get the big groups in and out early, so they may force us into a 7:30am ADR. Not being a morning person myself, I hate that, but I'll take whatever we can get.

On the chance that Kona is booked up and can't take us at all, I'm going to go with UrsulasShadow's suggestion and try for The Wave at the Contemporary as our backup. It's been getting good reviews, and the pics I've seen of it so far look beautiful, so I think we'll be happy there if we can't get into Kona.

If we can't get Kona or the Wave, we'd have to move the meet out of the MK area. I'd hate to do that, but as a draftsman who works in a transportation planning company (and being of German descent, as well), I like to have backups plans for my backup plans, and contingency preparations in case the backup-backups fall through, too. So, worst-case scenario, if we can't get Kona or the Wave, I'll try for Boatwrights, in POR. It's a lovely place with great food and great service, and not typically busy that time of year for breakfast.

Sounds like you have a great group Will. My plans for December are still sketchy at best. Not sure if DW Sue is coming with me or not. Not sure of what days we'll be attending. Otherwise I would have signed up for your event before the deadline. I just had breakfast at Kona this past Thursday. Kona Cafe ranks right up there with Boma Breakfast in my book.

Hi to all my DIS friends who will be attending. I'll keep an eye on this thread and if I make it to WDW in time, I'll make a point of dropping by whereever you are having your breakfast meet to say hello in person.

Good luck with the ADR. :thumbsup2

Okay, well, Kona Cafe is all booked up for Dec 11-13.

The Wave does not accept large groups.

So I went with my backup-backup-contingency, and moved us out of the MK area to Boatwrights, in Port Orleans Riverside. We have an ADR for 8am on Thursday Dec 11. The ADR is for 25 people, so we still have some spots open.

Boatwrights has a pleasant, peaceful atmosphere, great food, and excellent service. I knew we could get an ADR there, because it is not typically crowded for breakfast that time of year. I consider Boatwrights to be one of those hidden gems at WDW, like Trails End Buffeteria or the Dolphin Fountain.

Best of all, Boatwrights has a Banana Stuffed French Toast that is identical to Kona's famous Tonga Toast.

Here is the complete Boatwright's menu:
http://allears.net/menu/menu_bwb.htm

Since POR is out of the MK area, transportation can be an issue for an 8am ADR. If you won't have a car, post here and we'll try to set up carpooling with those of us who do. It also may be possible to get courtesy vans from the resort pick some of us up - I have been able to do that in the past, though there is no guarantee. If you think you'll need transportation help, let me know which resort you'll be staying in and I'll try to coordinate things for everybody.

Don't worry, we'll all get there, and we'll all have a great time.

That's where I normally grab dinner on MouseFest Saturday anyway, so you may just run into me.

Only problem with Yorkshire is that the lower seating areas get closed for private functions a lot, and if you don't get dinner early, you won't have a place to sit.

I wish they'd add some kind of seating area in the vicinity of Yorkshire that couldn't be closed for those private Illuminations viewing parties.

I just made my plane ressies today, too. SWA dropped the fare from BWI-MCO from $287 to $177, so I booked it before they changed their minds!

Okay, I'm putting y'all on warning here...I may well be stifling a very silly guilty-mom crying jag! This will be my first MouseFest, and I've never gone before because I felt so wrong about going to WDW without my kid! I simply can't pull him out of school to come with me, as much as we'd both love it if I could. So I suspect I may well be missing him terribly, and having a total guilt attack. If you see a chick with short bleach-blonde hair, carrying a Cincinnati Roller Girls/Hello Kitty handbag, dabbing at the corners of her eyes with a kleenex, that's got to be me!

(I swear to you, I am actually a well-adjusted, independent woman. I travel solo a lot for business...which might be part of why I hate to leave my family behind on leisure travel.)

I figure if I come to this breakfast, I can be distracted from my guilt by letting y'all tell me about all the awesomeness that MouseFest will bring! Plus you can help me figure out what souvenirs I can bring back for him, to further assuage my guilty conscience.

(Ooooh, just noticed on my countdown ticker....3 months 1 week to go! Yay!)

MouseFest is not a "trip to WDW." It's a convention, and we all know how kids hate conventions, so you're really doing your kid a favor by leaving him home!

The fact that the convention takes place at WDW is entirely irrelevant. You probably won't have any time to enjoy the place anyway, what with all of the boring convention functions you'll be attending. Right?

Ahhh, an excellent and devious strategy....but sadly, I'm afraid it won't work on my boy, or myself! He's 12 years old, and actually participates in recording segments for a Disney podcast with me, so he's totally jonesing to get to one of these fan meets. (We are currently penciled in to attend MagicMeets together next summer!)

My current guilty-mom approach is to remind myself that while I'm there, I will do all the things he hates, so that next time we go we can spend more time together doing the stuff he's into. (For example, he hates hates hates AK, so I'll get it out of my system while we're there, and then I can skip it next time.)

I spent a day at Disneyland without him in August of 2005, and man did I come home with a ton of pins for that boy....

Actually Nancy, a DDE card is good for discounting meals for up to 10 people at a time, so during meal meets like this one those with DDE cards usually use them for the whole crowd.

We've currently got 25 people for this meet, so we'll ned 3 DDE cards to cover everybody.

And there is never any problem with using dining plan credits.

That could save some cab fare. If you can swing by Pop or ASMO and pick up some of the folks who are planning on sharing cabs, that would be helpful.

Anyone else with a car able to stop by Pop or ASMO in the morning? There are 4 people at each resort who are planning on taking a cab, but if a couple of folks with cars can give them lifts, it can save them a few bucks.

Will you have a rental car so that you can get to the parks? Also, have you checked the reviews on Expedia or similar for the Comfort Inn? If you were already planning on a car and since you have an AP so that parking will be free, I would be very tempted by the $39/night.

I agree with staying offsite in this instance. The price difference is huge, and with the money saved you can get a rental car and STILL be saving money...not to mention that you can eat some of your meals offsite and save even more money than if you were dependent on eating onsite meals. I'd consider it.

I know right... this is what I was telling myself... new bldg... cheap rate with fridge... microwave and a spit away from DTD... with AP and if ever I can just rent a car... but it's that POP mentally that is driving me nuts... I have never been to Pop before. Where is a good place for all of us to meet?

I'd say the best place to gather is the Decade sculptures between the bus stops and the taxi drop-offs. The check-in parking lot is right across the street.

When you enter the resort, just follow the directions to check-in parking. See the link below for an aerial photo of the Decades.

WillCad,
I send you a PM a while ago that I would not be able to attend the MouseFest breakfast, but I see I'm still on the list.

I'm sorry I can't make the breakfast and I'm sorry for the I took so to look at the details again.

I want to thank you so much for arranging a ride for me. I appreciate that you did that.

Perhaps I'll see you at MouseFest. I hope so.

Ok you are the one sitting next to towncrier....

Flying out tomorrow!

  it was great chatting with you and everyone... I have to make sure to learn more about mousefest and hopefully be able to do it next year.. I was lost of words... since not really familiar on how mousefest works :guilty:

Wish I was leaving tomorrow but only 2 more sleeps before I leave.

Will, if anyone is left taking a cab, then I can pick up 3 people and provide a ride.

Guess I'll just hang out at the POP and take a ride with one of the 2 volunteer drivers!;)

Thanks, Will, for arranging! See you soon!

where you there??? if yes hmmm which one...

I agree with staying offsite in this instance. The price difference is huge, and with the money saved you can get a rental car and STILL be saving money...not to mention that you can eat some of your meals offsite and save even more money than if you were dependent on eating onsite meals. I'd consider it.

after staying at the Buena Vista Spa used to be Wyndham I am def'ly leaning towards staying there.. cheaper than POP and more comfy bed and lovely comforters with Starbucks in the kitchen :goodvibes

I am so glad we have some rides from Pop. My DD and I will be out there at 7:30 too - hitching.

you two i remember also :goodvibes

hope everybody had a great trip!!

Well, that was a great meet! Everyone seemed to enjoy the company, and the food and service at Boatwrights, and I hope to repeat this meet again next year.

Now that the DIS is an official participant in MouseFest, I think we'll see more and more LGMHs around the MF park of the day, and more and more meets like this one during MF each year.

I attended the Mega Mouse Meet on the 13th, but by the time I got there at 11:45 a.m. - many people were leaving. They were even out of yellow bags, but that's ok, as I didn't need to bring more crap home! I was also at the Epcot Tree Lighting meet on the 14th, and there were quite a few DISers there, but only a handful that I recognized. Considering that I've been on the DIS almost 10 years, I guess I'm out of the loop! IMHO - MouseFest is a victim of its own success - having gotten too big. I preferred it when it was much smaller a few years ago.
