Do they allow in&out privileges at the Zoo?

Do they allow you to leave and then return later in the day at the Zoo? With a handstamp of some sort? If yes, do you then have to pay for parking again (twice) in one day?
I ask because we just heard about a sandcastle competition going on at Imperial Beach the day we have scheduled to see the zoo. Sounds like a fun diversion for a couple of hours. Any advice on how long it would take to get from the Zoo to Imperial Beach?

Yes, you can get a handstamp when you exit. The parking is free, so that won't be an issue.

I would think it would take about 20-30 minutes to get to IB from the zoo, depending on traffic.
