Here is my story: My sister and I did a local 5k a couple of weekends ago to support the Ronald McDonald House. We were the only "pooh sized" people out there. So I have deceided to start the Fat Girls Walking Club. I am currently training to do the EE 5k in Sept. I am looking forward to this race, but I have to shave some time off. It has a 16 minute mile pace. Today, I did 2 miles in under 34 minutes. That is a personal best btw.

So I figured if I was doing this, then so are other people. Who wants to join me and support each other. Just not for races, but to offer encouragement at we go from the "Fat Girls Walking Club" to the "Skinny Girls Running Club"

Yea for doing the 5K and great time on the 2 miles!!! :thumbsup2

I'll join you! :goodvibes I'm definitely very Pooh-sized, and the EE 5K is next on my list. I actually lost 130+ pounds on WW a few years ago, but some health setbacks and another baby later... :rolleyes1 Needless to say, I have found that it was MUCH easier to do these races without all the extra weight. We can do this!

Today I did 1.5 miles with two little boys - one in the stroller and one walking while grumbling loudly... :headache: Tomorrow, I think DS1 will be staying home with Daddy! ;)

Okay, Amanda and Annette....fess up. How are you ladies related? :teeth:

You know, once you do a 5k or two, you'll want to move on to a 10k, 15k, half-marathon, marathon, etc. You can do it!!!! :cheer2:

I'd like to join. I kind of go up and down on my mileage and time so I need to get back in the groove.

Susie - I'm so glad you joined us! :goodvibes How are things going?

Today I did 2 miles with the baby in the stroller. It was HOT, but I felt good the whole time. Yea!!

Keep up the great work, ladies!

I am so glad that people are posting on this thread :)

Today I did another 2 miles in just under 35 min. I find that if I walk after work my times are worse, like today. Tomorrow I will walk before work.

My plan is to do the Disney Marathon before my 40th bday. That will be in 2010. I just want to finish and get the medal.

Amanda and I are very competitive with each other. She beat me today. I started out to fast.

I hope everyone has a great night :)

Hi all, I would love to join your walking club. I'm not actually training for anything right now. Since I have a ton of weight to lose I'm going to be training/losing to train for the 2010 1/2 Marathon. Joined WW tonight, just can't seem to stay on track by myself right now and I end up weighing myself 15 thousand times a day and getting depressed. So, hubby hid the scale and I will only weigh in on Thurs at WW.
Bought a pair of good sneakers to walk in today also and MforM to get some guidance. Really need help with the motivation dept.:woohoo: :woohoo:

Hey Lynnda! Doing great! I just got a little too relaxed this Spring. I didn't keep up with my running/walking or exercsing in general and I just watched my weight climb, up, up, up.....and beyond. Ugh! I'm paying the price for it now. :sad2: However, I think with the right motivation from this group, I might can do something about it.

Still thinking about the Rock 'n 'Roll Half (San Antonio?) :teeth:

Amanda and Annette - I agree with Lynnda. A little competition is just the key to get each other motivated. I wish I had a partner to train with. Well, I do but she lives 7 hours away. :(

Can-Do-mom - back away from the scales. They are not your friend right now. One thing I like about weight watchers is that they encourage you to drop the weight slowly and effectively. A good friend of mine lost around 90 pounds with WW and she went from very little exercise to doing the WDW half in 2006. As a matter of fact, she's the one that encouraged me to do the half in 2007 which inspired me to do the full in 2008. You can do it. Just don't rush the weight loss. You'll be thankful that you didn't later.

On another note, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the MfM book. What an inspirational guide. I followed the walk/run training plan to almost a T for my first half marathon. All I wanted to do was to finish the race and I did with ~15 minutes to spare....thanks to that book!

Help-what is the MfM book? I feel like I should know this but I don't.

I also agree with putting away the scales. They won't tell you the truth. Remember muscle weighs more than fat. I haven't done WW in years (like 20) but I have friends that have done it with a lot of success. Maybe I'll have to think about that. I remember when I did it it was a lot of cottage cheese and tuna. I know that it has changed but that memory scares me :)

MFM is Marathon for Mortals. I too am a walker and did the 1/2 in Disney this year. It's true, I swore I would never do another race and I'm training for the 1/2 in 2009. Working on reducing my Pooh size and don't be discouraged because walking will build muscle and trim inches. Measure or watch your clothes get loose. I now fit in a lot of clothes that I wore when I was 10 pounds lighter just because I've trimmed off so many inches.

Speed will come as your legs become stronger. I've been power walking for 15 years and feel better now that I did when I THOUGHT I was at my best. Also, finishing any race - to me - is train hard and have a very POSITIVE attitude. 75% is a mind game.

Get a route on www.mapmyrun.com and then do it. Slowly start to decrease your time to complete that route by increasing your speeds. When that becomes less of a burden, increase your route, change it or try a local track for a flat course to work on speed.

Enjoy your new workout, it will be the best thing you do for yourself, less injuries and being 54, I have recently found that running is not good for our internal organs both upper and lower. :sad2:

good luck.

We have a park that is close to our house that is marked for running/walking. In some places there a smallish hills. For what I need right now, it is perfect. In time though I will have to branch out.
I will have to look for that book.

Annette - Marathoning for Mortals by John Bingham and Jenny Hadfield. Although this book is for those interested in doing a half or full marathon, I would highly recommend it for anyone (walkers and runners) doing any events. It's very motivational with lots of humor, tips and inspiration for the average Joe. I'm sure it would get the DIS seal of approval if there was such a thing.

I just looked it up and my local bookstore has, so it will on my list of things to get this weekend.

Need to ask a weird question- what do you like to wear when walking? We live in MI so right now the temps are in the high 70's low 80's. I am wearing an oversized tee and yoga pants. I want shorts but can't seem to find any that are long enough not to ride up in my size (26). Any advice?

I am going shopping tomorrow after work, so any input would be great :)

I've started walking in a lightweight pair of capri's in the evening when it's a little cooler. We've had alot of 80's-90's but the humidity here in Ct is horrible some days. I would love to find some shorts that work, but I have trouble with them riding up also as I'm a size 24.:yay: not for long though:yay:

Hi Susie!

Can Do Mom: Champion has compression shorts that are 9" long. That is what I train and race in. Sometimes if it's not too hot a wear a running skirt over them. Tres chic!

I think I got them from the Just My Size catalog. I'll see if I can find the link. :thumbsup2

Hey Judy! :goodvibes I meant to tell you that your running pace is AWESOME! You are getting quite speedy! I went out last night on the track and the best I could do is 13:47. I was pleased with that but there is NO WAY I could maintain that for 13.1 miles. I'm working on it, though. :teeth:

I wear capris that I bought at Sam's club. It's what I wore for the 1/2. Get some GLIDE to avoid chub rub, in those areas that may have friction.

I bought a thin pair of capris at JC Penny's last week. Very comfortable for this hot time of year.

Watch your socks, I use Rocawear, addias, asics. Bought my bra at Target and another at Gap Body. I like body hugging shirts the tees seem to chafe my underarms.

All those clothes are important so you don't chafe after many miles. I had one spot that I was not aware of during the race till I hit the shower. YIKES that was an eyeopener!:scared1:

Try it all!

Thanks for all the great ideas. I think we have a Hanes/Champion/JMS outlet about 30 min from our house. Might try there tomorrow after work.

I gotta tell- today my legs were killing me at work. They aren't used to all this moving.

What type of strenght exercises do you ladies like and find effective?

You all realize I am now using you as my personal trainers?

Hey Lynnda! Still thinking about the Rock 'n 'Roll Half (San Antonio?) :teeth:

Susie - Unfortunately I won't be doing San Antonio... :sad1: Bill will be flying out by himself - it's just too expensive to fly all 4 of us out for just a weekend. Billy starts Kindergarten in the fall, and I have discovered this whole school thing gets in the way of vacations!!!! ;) We would probably all go to TX if we could stay for a few days and sight-see. San Antonio is so beautiful, and there is so much I want the boys to see! I'll be thinking of you all, though. Keep Bill in line for me! :thumbsup2

Annette - I wear compression shorts from Danskin. The Danskin website has a plus section, and their clothes go up to 4X. They are super comfy, don't ride up, and they are extremely durable! They've gotten me through a bunch of training and several races. You do need to watch for sales, though, as they can be a bit pricey. I got mine during a 40% off sale. I also have 2 Cool-max loose fitting sleeveless shirts from Danskin - definitely a must in the heat! And I second the Body Glide - I have had waaaaaay too many chafing spots. I even have a hidden Mickey scar on my back from my first marathon, thanks to chafing from the back of my waistband. :lmao:

Can-do-mom - Congrats on joining WW! It really is a great program. If you can, try several different times/leaders. When I did WW, I "shopped" the various meetings until I found the perfect one! She was awesome, and incredibly motivating! Since gaining so much of the weight back, I think I've tried everything else out there, and have finally decided I just need to get back to journaling and counting my points. I have a ton of weight to lose, as well, but don't let that stop you from setting smaller training/racing goals before the 2010 half. When I finally got the courage to do my first race, I was surprised at how many other Pooh-sized people there were, and how encouraging everyone was, regardless of size or ability. I was sad I didn't sign up sooner! ;)

Training-wise, I did a mile swim at the pool yesterday, and my legs are paying for it today, so no big walking (just a little shopping :thumbsup2). I am hoping to get out on the bike tomorrow - we'll see if the weather cooperates.

Everyone is doing awesome! Keep up the great work ladies!!! :goodvibes

We went to the Adidas outlet store on Sat. I found a pair of shorts and a tank that should do for a while. What excited me was the shorts are a 2x and the tank is xl. Yippee!

I got the MfM book and have started reading that. I'm only to chapter 6, but it seems like a good start. I want to jump ahead and look at the training plans, but that seems to be like finding out who did it before you get to the end.

Back from NYC on Saturday. That one day of shopping was a killer on the body. My legs were fine, we did about 8 miles in the city but I was just plain old tired, or just plain old!

Here's a picture of me on the other thread in front of the Yankee's Store. Me a Red Sox fan! But I'm wearing my Wish hat!

http://photopost.wdwinfo.com/data/500/2225NY_Yankess.jpg

So, we're back at it at 5am tomorrow so I'm about ready to hit the hay, 4:45 seems to come very early!

Keep walking all, and measure your goals in inches and miles not pounds! All will catch up eventually.

Denise,
Glad to hear you had a great time in NY. I used to follow the Yankees closely, but then lost interst. I do that a lot. Short attention span I guess. That is why is so important to me to continue to train. I bore easily.

Time to go for a run.

Just wanting to join. We have a December trip planned. Both DH and I are Pooh sized. We have a goal as a family. In the next 4 months, we must "Walk to WDW". That is 1240 miles. We have a large map on the wall and DD (12) marks how far we are every few days. Just started last week, but are having fun. DD and I walk each morning while it is cool, and DH, DD and I walk in the evening.

The marathons sound like a blast! Maybe that will need to be a goal of mine after this trip.

We are happy to have you. I like the idea of walking to Disney. That is inspired. We really don't have a structure here. We are just here to help each other out. I am waiting for the temp to drop so that I can go for a walk. It is almost 9pm and still over 80 degrees. It might be midnight before I go at this rate. :rotfl:

Jenn - Welcome! The walking to Disney sounds really cool!!! And I love that your DD is involved with it! :goodvibes

Annette - Enjoy your walk! There are many days around here when 80 degrees would sound heavenly! :rotfl: I think we are back in the mid-90's on Saturday... yippee... ;)

I really have very little walking to report. We have had rain, rain, rain, more rain, and even more rain - all day, every day it seems. I don't have a treadmill, so aside from pacing the house, my walking is limited. Here's hoping for some sunshine tomorrow :beach:

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hey! Can I join the club too? I'm glad to finally have found some WISHers I can really relate to. I just started back purposefully exercising last Monday. I put on 70lbs with baby #2. It's killing me, yet every pound was worth it! He's so sweet! But he just turned a year old so I have no more excuses to hang on to the baby weight.

I'm an interval loving girl. It keeps things interesting. I'm currently at walk4min/run1min (6 intervals) and my goal is to eventually make it flip to run4/walk1. I walk or cross train 2 days a week, rest 2 days, and do intervals 3 days.

My Goals:
Princess 5k 2009
Disney 1/2 2010
Princess 1/2 2010 (if they have it)

I would love to meet you ladies at these races!

Hello All,
First I'm mostly a lurker here. But tonight I found this thread woo hoo. I would like to join the wonderful Fat Grils Walking Club. I have been walking 5 days a week since June 3rd. I've been counting steps/aerobic steps/miles & kcals via my very cool Ormiron pedometer.

Last year my sisters and I trained and completed the 2007 DLHM. That about killed me but I finished. I didn't train hard or long enough and wasn't prepared for the southern CA heat. We finished under a black flag due to heat. After I completed the DLHM I quit exercising and gained back the weight I'd lost training. :confused3

Then... at my yearly physical in June. My blood pressure was up, I already take a daily medication for HBP, my bad cholestrol was up, and DR said I needed to start exercising and lose some weight. Heart disease runs in my family both my parents died of heart disease. I decided it was time to listen, lose weight, exercise, eat a more organic heart friendly diet, and get heart strong.

So June 3rd I dug around in the bottom of my closet. EEK found my dusty HM tennis shoes, searched my dresser drawer for my misplaced sports bra, ick found my HM shorts (LOL like I could fit into them), opted for a pair of baggy capri sweat pants instead, dug around found my pedometer, purchased an IPOD shuffle, and started to walk again.

I haven't lost much weight in this process but I am walking faster and stronger then when I started. Like a few others I would like to get in shape first for my heart & health. Then my goal is to train & complete the 2009 DLHM and then the 2010 DWHM. :thumbsup2

WOO HOO let's kick it FG's!:cool2:

Thanks Annette,

This cracked me up but I agree you have to get in shape to get in better shape. Speaking from advice train, train, train, and then train some more. I hit the wall at about mile 8. I didn't think I could walk another step but some how I found the strength & a gal I meet while walking in the HM Patti kept me going, at about mile 10 it was my turn to keep her going, at mile 12, I knew I was going to finish or get carried off the course, I was that determined to finish.

I'd love to do the Princess in March... will see... must ponder this. :scared1:

Just thought I would check in to see how everyone is doing. I've been walking at lunch everyday (around 3 miles). Trying to get my time down some (currently walking at around 17 minute mile). Also I have been doing a bootcamp aerobics class 2x a week. Hopefully it will help :cool1:

Hope everyone is doing well

May I join? Just discovered this thread tonight.

I've been somewhat in "training" for a few weeks for DL 5k, walking on a treadmill. The info said you must walk a 15 minute mile so I've been trying to work up to walking 3 miles at 4 mph. So far, I'm at 2 miles at 3.8 mph. I also try to get in a 3-5 mile bike ride on Saturdays, but have only done that twice.

I'm also a WW member (since Oct 2004), lose a little, put a little back on. I follow plan, then I deviate a little, then go back on plan. This is the first time I've added exercise. I hate that sweaty feeling, but this DL 5k has motivated me. Plus, we have this program at work that rewards a healthier lifestyle. And I'm trying to add fruits and vegetables into my daily diet. Oh yeah, I'm on HBP meds, haven't seen a lower BP yet, but we'll see what happens.

DANG I wish my work offered rewards for healthier life style.

We can DO this together! Man I sound like a cheerleader.

Hey Disneyluv,
I walk everyday at lunch as well. I only have a 30 minute lunch break. I am going to add additional walk time after I get home from work. Not sure what I am going to do when the weather turns fowl and I am unable to walk outside...

You ROCK girl walking 3 miles during your lunch. :thumbsup2 How are you feeling?

What is bootcamp aerobics? Do tell.

Sorry to everyone that I have been MIA. I was in Boston for a few days for biz. That is one lovely city. I walked 40 min on the treadmill yesterday and walked from my hotel to Fenway and back (over 2 miles). Tommorrow we are doing a 6k, so wish us luck.

Welcome to Z! The more the merrier :)

Have a great night. I will let everyone know how we did.

So, Annette, how did the 6k go today? Was it your first?

I'm signed up (and DH too) for the Disneyland 5k next Saturday. Tonight I had DH print out the route map so I can hang it on my cubicle wall this week, and I read the press release. I read "Family Fun Run 5k". I swore before I signed up for it that it was a run/walk. Oh boy, what did I get myself into! I just gotta stay ahead of any moving vehicle that's picking up anyone not keeping up the pace. Right? :confused3 This is my first 5k; might as well jump into the fire on the first one! LOL

We missed it. I was so tired from traveling that I slept through my alarm. I was disappointed but obviously that is what my body needed. I think that it is very important to listen to your body.

You will do fine in the 5k. Just keep swimming! (gotta love Dory)

Completed the 5k today, my very first ever 5k! DH was my pace setter and we finished at a better-than-15-minute-mile pace. Walked the entire course, except for a few jogs to catch up with DH. It was great! I'm thinking about doing it next year.

Congrats Z!!!!!!!!!!! Isn't that a great feeling? I knew that you could do it!

Annette bummer you slept through your alarm but I agree sometimes we need to do what our bodies need = sleep. In my case I don't want to do what my body/mind is telling me which is to eat an entire pan of freshly baked milk chocolate frosted brownies... more on that later. :confused3 GF you are doing the YETI, LUCKY. Can I so be on your team next year. That sounds like a freakin blast! Please tell me all about it & and I can't wait to hear all the details after you've completed the Yeti.

My sister, brother inlaw & niece all did the half marathon this morning Sunday 08/31. I've been tracking them via the DLHM website! :surfweb: They all finished! I am so bummed I couldn't go this year. :sad2: I am with them in spirit! princess:

I've had an off week, due to taking my oldest son back to college, and now I'm getting my youngest son ready to go to college. Empty nest after 09/18. I have two sons one is staring his junior year in college and the other is going to be a freshman in college. Hey more time for me to walk & get in better shape. I've got my eye on the WDW Princess HM or the 2009 DLHM.

Off to do laundry then walk, I am inspired by all of you FGWC's! Thanks it's just what I need to get me back on track this week!

OK sign me up for the Fat Girls Walking Club!

It hit me about 3 weeks ago that I had to do something to get in shape. I've tried things in the past that haven't worked for the long term. I do the best when I have a goal. This time my goal is the WDWHM in 2010. Disney is my best motivator for anything!

I've been gradually walking/running more. I started out at 20 minutes and am no up to 30-35 minutes. I can do about 2.3 miles during that time.

I'm excited about keeping up with all of you on your routines as well! I love the motivation that is provided here!

Keep on walking!

Hey everyone :)

Tole- I want to do the Princess have in 2009 (my 39th year) and the Marathon in (2010). I have committed to myself that I would do a marathon by my 40th. The Dis Marathon is in Jan and my bday is in Feb. I think that would be awesome.

I shaved 2 minutes off my overall time this morning! I was soooo excited :cool1:

Welcome Nkk :yay: The more the merrier. Where is Vicksburg? We are in Lansing. So howdy neighbor!(?). This is a very informal thread. Just us girls supporting each other. So post whenever you feel like it. We are just here to have fun!

We can amble together. Mine is more of a waddle though. I have the same goal for EE- I just want to finish and not be last. The medal is so cool. I know I can. I know I can. That will be my mantra for that race. I'm not to the pacing requirement yet but will be by Sept 27. We should look for each other at the race.

Hope everyone had a great holiday. Mine started at 630pm when I punched out! At least I Tues and Wed off.

I just noticed the pic in your siggie. Were you married at WDW? I bet that was wonderful :)

Annette,

I did get married at WDW in March of 2007 (wedding pavilion and reception at the Living Seas and Dessert Reception at France Lower)

The pain in my foot is different than led foot. It is actually like a bone on bone feeling. I know it is probably just from running becuase I haven't done it in SOOOO long!! At least I have jump start on diagnosing my injuries becuase I work at a Physical Therapy Clinic and am going to be going to school next year to become a Physical Therapy Assistant.

What shoes are you wearing? Make sure you are wearing the right kind of shoe for your foot type. If you have running shoe store like playmakers(East Lansing-playmakers.com) in your area i would suggest visiting it. Don't just buy them because there cute or they fit (buying larger to accommodate the width) I know someone who does that. You may want to also visit a podiatrist for custom made inserts that alleviate any misaligned bones rather than surgical correction. This ends my PSA from working in a podiatry office since 1989.

You may also be over training and need to incorporate cross training in your workout

I'm glad you didn't pull an Annette and buy just because there cute. Her running shoes are the only ones that are the perfect fit and good for her to wear.

I've heard of Gazelle. Don't they have a race circuit like playmakers? I love my elliptical in the winter when i get feed up with walking in snow and really into training .

Hello girls!
I am definitely one of the fat girls!
:rotfl2:

I am also doing the EE5K in just matter of weeks.
For now I am on about 18 min miles walking fast, I actually managed to shave it down to 17 min yesterday... but then disaster struck in the shape of... dun dun duuuun, shin splints. UGH!!! They hurt so bad I actually cried.

Still I am not disheartened, I can totally do a 5K in 1hr, did so on Sunday, so I am sure I can finish it all and shave some more time. I have properly fitted shoes, and I am now doing toe raises to combat those nasty splints, :headache:

I want that medal sooo badly!!!
I am doing at least 65 laps today at the pool instead of running so my legs can rest and then back on the recumbent bike until Sat, when I'll try my hand at another 5K.

Glad to know I am not alone!!!

Hi, I'm new to the WISH forums, though I've been on the DIS quite a while. A friend of mine just ran the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon and wants me to come out to WDW to cheer him on in the Goofy's Challenge. All that got me to thinking that I could surely do something as short as a 5K (particularly since even kids do the 5K!). So, today I signed up for the Circle of Life 5K in January.

When discussing running in the past, my catchphrase has always been "I don't run, unless someone's chasing me with an axe." But, here I am, about to embark upon learning to run. I'm starting tonight at my regular gym visit with a program I linked to from the 5K site. I usually do 30 minutes on the elliptical, a bit of speed rowing, followed by 30 minutes quick walking on the treadmill. So, I'll now move into training by doing the treadmill 3 minutes walking and 1 minute running for 5 or 6 repetitions. Then, I'll move on to the rower and elliptical, if I can stand it. I have no idea if I even know how to run! :scared:

I've got a compromised right ankle from a pretty bad sprain over a year ago, I expect that my knees will hurt and I have a small bit of an annoying sciatic nerve that likes to kick up now and then. So, we'll see how everything holds out for training. But, that's why I'm going to go with this pre-set program and take it slow and easy. In about 10 weeks, I should be up to running the full 5K. Maybe...

Wish me luck on this venture. I think I'm going to need it! Looking forward to following along with everyone else's training in this thread and, maybe, seeing a few of you out at the 5K, come January. :)

Welcome aboard Magix!!

I had the exact same concept of running that you used to have....until a month ago. I need to shape up and running is the least expensive/most effective way that I have researched!

I'm not going to be doing any official racing soon (I plan on the 1/2 marathon in 2010)

I just finished a short run/walk tonight in between rain showers. I did get sprinklied on at the very end, but then it felt GREAT! I did 1/5 miles in 20 minutes. I'm pretty happy with that and hope to get back up to 2 miles this weekend. My knees are sore but I'm dealing with it! if they get much worse I'll start cross-training.

Have a good night everyone!

Welcome Magix!!

I love running/walking. I'm what you would call atlethically challanged. I don't possess any hand/eye coordination at all. So anything like softball (or any other sport) was always a struggle for me. So, walking/running is the perfect sport for me. I have a long way to go, that is why it is great to have all you to support me and each other.

Nikki,
How were the feet tonight? Better I hope.

Anette,

The feet were great last night. I spent some extra time on Wed and Thursday just massaging them. The issue yesterday was my knees! At least the pain keeps moving! Hopefully it will work its way up and out of my head in no time! I iced them good last night and they feel normal this morning!

I did my first training workout last night and it went surprisingly well. I realized, while changing, that I was actually getting nervous about trying to run and had to calm myself down. When I actually did it, it was just fine. I did a walking pace that was a 17:38 mile for 3 minutes, then a running pace at a 12:someodd mile for 1 minute, 6 reps. Did a quick walking warmup and cooldown for 5 minutes on either side of that. It definitely helps that I've been hitting the gym for 7 months already and have been doing 30 minute treadmill walks. I stretched a bit afterward, but couldn't get on the rower, since they were both taken. So, I did 15 minutes on the elliptical, which is less than my normal time on that, but I was afraid of overdoing it. Stretched a bit again, and that was that. I really need to learn some proper stretches, though, because I was just faking my way through it last night.

Had some annoying pain (not bad, just annoying) in the top of my feet and up through my ankles to the very bottom of my leg last night, but I feel terrific today.

I'm already looking into some pre-WDW events. There's a 1 mile rubber boot run (some kind of silly Guiness Record attempt) in October and a 5K in November that I might do. The 5K would be right at the end of my training program, so it would be timed just perfectly.

You know, this might actually be possible. Next workout should be tomorrow.

Hey everyone! :wave2:

Sorry I don't post on a consistant basis. I just don't have the time. But know that you are all on my mind. :goodvibes

Why is it so hard? It's like every single day I have to make a concious decision to fight this fat. I guess I haven't fully accepted and committed to the hard work it's going to take to get rid of it again.

I joined the YMCA (a huge accomplishment for me!) and have actually been going. Yesterday I did run(waddle) 2/walk 3 intervals for 40mins! That was a big improvement. :thumbsup2 I'm going to try it again tomorrow.

I don't know about you guys, but I've found that RUNNING MAKES ME SMILE! I look like such a goofball bouncing along on the treadmill with a big smile on my face.

Now for the full confession: I'm doing better in the exercise department, but my eating habits still stink. I CRAVE fast food. I know it's literally killing me and my family but I can't seem to stop. You guys have any suggestions I could try? I mean it's kind of stupid to spend 45 minutes on the treadmill and then eat a burger on the way home. And this is an everyday thing. I don't know what to do. I'm to the point I want to ask my doctor if I need some kind of counseling or something. It's completely out of control. I've even noticed within the last week when I get near the end of my meal I start to feel sad because I know that it will soon be gone. I feel like I'm going crazy! :confused3 You guys have any suggestions???

Be blessed!

Great job at joining the YMCA!!!

As for the fast food issue. The one thing that I found helps me is if I plan ahead. For a long time I would sit down on Sunday and Plan out my meals for the week. Then I would go shopping to buy only the items I needed for the week. I used kraftfoods.com to find recipes. they have a neat feature that lets you add the recipes to your "shopping List" this way once I had my 6 meals for the week I could then just edit and print out the shopping list. It made my shopping go that much faster and helped me budget!

Another thing I do is I throw a banana, granola bar or healthy snack into my gym bag. This way I don't stop at fast food on the way home because I have my snack to eat in the car to tide me over until I can get home!

Hopefully some of those tips will work for you!

Magix- I'll work on finding some good basic stretches for you! The main thing is that you get each muscle group stretched in at least you lower body!

I'm going over to Detroit today to visit some friends and the Zoo so I probably won't be back on until tomorrow night or Monday.

Have a good weekend everyone and just keep on turckin' (a saying my dad uses to keep himself going).

The YMCA is wonderful!
I have been thinking of re-joining. I stopped my membership when we moved to a new apartment that had its own gym with weight room and all, bad move! I became sooo lazy!!!

I lost 60 whole pounds going to the YMCA, that place rocks.

About fast food, I just remember how difficult it was to finish my work out and blame it on the fries, burgers, etc I have eaten through the years, I also drink lots and lots of water when I start getting peckish, sometimes I am not hungry, I am just thirsty, isn't that weird?

JoyMouse

You guys are doing great! I am still walking, but my eating habits are nothing to write home about! I was able to do a 14 minute mile (just one) on a treadmill. I am so happy that we found each other and I'm not the only who struggles.

I have to admit that I too eat fast food. I only eat kids meals though. That way I get what it is that I'm craving and not eating the Baconantor (over 1000 calories in just that Wendy's sandwich). Sometimes if you don't feed that craving, it will only get worse. Then you will eat more, feel bad about that then continue to eat more. It's really about portion control. That is why I love the 100 calorie snack packs.

Just keep moving forward.

Annette :yay:

Nikki- great idea about taking a snack with me to the gym! I took one with me today and it worked! NO FAST FOOD!!! I never realized my body DEMANDS to be fed after every workout. It seems so counter productive to take food to eat when you're going to burn off calories. But I guess if it's healthy food it's okay.

I made the decision to do Slim Fast for a while until I can get rid of these awful cravings. I don't know how I feel about it long term, but I need something quick and convenient since I'm taking care of my little ones all day. I figure it will at least help me lose a few pounds to where I have more energy and will feel like actually planning meals, grocery shopping, then coming home to cook. Anyone else doing Slim Fast or have tried it?

While doing my intervals on the treadmill today I decided to see how long I could run on my last one. I ran for 5 minutes straight! That is a serious personal record. I've never done that before. I'm still excited about it! Hope I don't pay for it too much in the days to come.

Thank you all for being so encouraging! I love my FGWC!

Great job everybody!!!

I did just 30 minutes on the recumbent bike on a high setting, my shins splints are STILL bothering me. I was feeling restless so while DH took the car down by the gym I had a little walk and even though I wasn't suppossed to... I ran for the very last teeny bit of my way to the gym :rolleyes1 it felt so good though... I even dreamed of running... I swear! It is insane! :scared1:

To calm myself down until my shins are back up to speed and because today I HAVE to rest my legs, I did some research online for plus sized running clothes and sports bras.

I went shopping some on Friday night, but didn't find anything! All the bras out there for 42DD are sooo not helpful, there is bouncing everywhere :headache: . So I made several searches online and I found this Enell sports bra that is suppossed to be the very best.

I got one for $54 smackers :scared: I mulled it over for a whole day before I actually ordered it, but if it works it would be so worth it, and all the reviews rave about it, so I did it.

My new swimsuit from speedo should be here next week :woohoo: I can't wait to try it out at the pool. I think I'll challenge DH to a couple of rounds of wii sports to try and do some working out without messing my legs up.

Keep moving forward ladies! Way to go!!!

Happy Sunday night everyone. I did well with my eating tonight, well, sort of... I ate BBQ with the family, but left off the bun and had salad with it instead of chips. I guess that made my happy enough, that I felt like the choco. cake wouldn't be too bad. At least I didn't eat the cake and the bun and the chips like I would normally do. I did walk this afternoon and did some gardening too. Have a great week everyone!

Day 2 of NO FAST FOOD! :cool1:

Walked 45 mins at gym.

I'm feeling more confident about my 5k planned for December.

Great exercise reports. Especially exercising at the hotel. That's always a little intimidating for me. Glad to see you did it!!!

I did 2 miles in 34 minutes today. I was so excited. I need to learn to start out slower. I just want to jump right in without pacing myself.

Have a great night and Keep Moving Forward!

Nikki,
SHUT UP! You got married at WDW and had your reception in the Living Seas! :worship: Girl I am so jealous of you. I'm still looking for my other disney dork half and dream of a WDW or DL marriage... How wonderful it must of been for you & your husband. LOVE IT!

Welcome and sorry to hear about your foot, I agree with Annette you've got to find shoes that work for your foot & walk. I think working at a Physical Therapy Clinic will help w/your foot & future aches & pains. Can all the Fat Grils come and visit in the future for much needed messages?

Walk on GF you can do it! :cool2:

Hello Fat Girls,
Sorry I've been MIA, lots going on with the start of school here last week. I work for the local school district so the first week of school is ALWAYS CRAZY! I was able to continue to walk last week. I only got to walk four days and usually I strive for 6 but I had to let that go due to work. :surfweb: This week will be better and I should hit my goal of 6 days of walking!

Confession time, since other FG's are confessing their struggles... Saturday night my friend invited me over to her house for some chick scrap booking time. Now I am not an avid scrap booker by no means but I have been slowly working on a small scrap book of all the pictures from last years Disneyland Half Marathon road trip & fun with my sisters, 2007. Well I ate far to many mini Reese's peanut butter cups & I had a few magarita's as well... Ugh so much for any progress I made in the weight loss department. I wish I had the will power to decline the litter peanut butter buggers & the delish beverages but I didn't. :sad2: And did I walk today, heck no, house work, laundry, chores, chores, & more chores. Truthfully they are all excuses cuz I pretty much lacked motivation today. But then I surfed on in and well...

THANK YOU!!! You all are just the inspiration I needed real women looking exercise/walking right in the eye & mirror and as Annette puts it deciding to, "keep moving forward! :woohoo:

We can do this ladies!

Chris- those peanut butter cups are evil! Especially the egg ones around Easter time. Ugh! I swear they can talk cause they're always screaming EAT ME! I'm excited your training is starting! :cheer2:

I'm thinking about signing up for the Princess 5k coming in March. Anyone else planning to be there?

We really need a sticky page that lists everyone's Disney related races they're planning on doing. That way we'll know who else is training for the same thing with us. Plus, I would love to see pics with little bios of all of you. I wonder how we could set this up. Hmmm....:confused3

Have a blessed day and get to moving!!!

Lilo,

I was thinking about doing the Princess 1/2 but deceided now to do the 5k instead. I would rather not try to train for such a long distance in the winter when I really can't run outside. When you live in MI, winter is dark, cold and the days are too short. We are registering for the event in Oct since right now all our extra money is going to our vacation that starts in 10 days!!!

I know about those Reeses. That is my favorite! Hard to resist. But don't beat yourself up over it. If you do, it won't help. Just Keep Moving Forward!

Have a great day everyone!

I agree that we need a sticky for our events, just so we can figure out who's training for what.

I'm so in awe of those of you doing 1/2 marathons! I just can't imagine such a thing! I was looking over my training schedule today and reading Week 6 when I have to run 8 minutes... impossible!! :scared: If I manage to get through all of this training, I'll be running 35-40 minutes straight! Wow! And you guys are looking at 3 hours!! Amazing! :thumbsup2

I'm already figuring out how I'll work out while traveling. I have an overnight trip this weekend, but can get my workout in before heading out of town. But, I have an overnight Sept 27-28, so I need to check if my hotel has a treadmill. Then, I'm in Vegas with my Dad for a week in October. For my Saturday workout, I'm going to have to run at the track (my dad drives a vintage racecar, so that's why we're out there), then on Monday pay $10 to use the Luxor's fitness area. Oy! So much planning involved in all of this. Good thing I'm detail oriented and like making plans.

Bravo to those who are cutting back on fast food. Somewhere along the line, I started doing that, just because I was tired of how I felt when eating that way. Now, when I'm hungry and out driving around, it's hard to find something, because fast food just seems so disgusting. When I work out at the gym, I eat a Luna bar on the way there, then get a Jamba Juice (with either protein powder boost or vitamin boost) for dinner on the way home. Stick with it and, before long, you won't be able to believe you ever enjoyed fast food!

Now, if I could just convince myself to eat less in sit-down restaurants. I swear, if it's got bacon and/or cheese on it, I'm all about it... ;)

Magix-If you are up early enough, you could run the strip. Before it fills up with tourist, it is quite pretty.

I don't know how to create a sticky. We're lucky that I could start a thread.:rotfl2: If someone knows what to do, that would be great.

It's raining here. Fall is on its way. I love fall clothes but not the weather.

Adidas makes some running pants/shorts in a 2x that fit me. Depending on the brand I usually wear a 22/24 pants. So you might want to try there.

Have a great evening! :)

Up early? Me?!? Oh no, I'm more of an afternoon/evening runner. Which ought to be great, when I have to get up early and run the race. I just checked and I'll be on week 8 of the training schedule when I'm in Vegas, which is just straight running 25 minutes. Wow. Well, who knows? If the weather's decent (which it's usually not when we're there in October), maybe I'll get up unusually early and see Vegas at that hour.

nkkilala
09-08-2008, 09:30 PM
Annette- what you can do is edit your first post to include who is running which race. I think that would be a good page to have it on! I can go through tomorrow and make a list if you would like. I have the week off so I'm pretty free!

Ok so confession. I have had WAY too many meals out recently. It didn't help with the trip to Detroit but then we went out 2 times today!!!:confused3 that is just not good! I'll have to get working on that one

I did get a run/walk in today. I was out for 45 minutes and did probably 2.3 miles. I'm thinking of starting that couch to 5K program! I'll have to see if I can find the book for cheap at alibris.com!

Oh I found capri sweat pants at Wal-mart in the plus section that fit nicely. They are a bit warm but with Michigan Fall upon us they seem to do the trick for me!

Keep on moving girls!!!

You are all a great form of motivation and accountability for me!!!

Alright, I got shin supports today at SportsAuthority, so I wore them under my dress pants at work all day and again at home after applying some biofreeze to my shins.

I love biofreeze, if you gals don't know about it, give it a whirl, it is like a better versio of icyhot. I couldn't run without it, it gives me nearly instant relief from aching muscles.

I put my legs up all afternoon and the shins feel soooo much better!!! I think I will be able to get to run/walk again tomorrow finally!!! :yay:

I didn't know what the big deal was :confused3 but a friend of mine who runs the WDW Marathon told me it was great stuff, so I tried it out... and boy was I surprised.

Thanks for all of your support, those Reese's peanut butter cups do call my name, and those little peanut butter eggs at Easter well they have been known to call my name now & again as well.

It's official for me I will run, walk, and or crawl the 2009 Disneyland Half Marathon . I was so bummed this year when I couldn't attend DL Half. My sister & her family did the 2008 DL Half. I missed my sisters, family, & the fun we had. I walked around the house on race day in my 2007 Disneyland Half Marathon shirt, mickey ears, & 2007 medal. I pretty much pouted the entire day, :headache: my sons finally caved and said. "Fine mom, we can take a hint, we'll all go next year, enough already." Hey a moms got to do what a moms got to do, right. :rolleyes1

As for the sticky thing, sorry ladies I don't have a clue about how to do this either...

Annette you want to talk about rain...

Ladies I live in the Pacific NW, Washington, it rains here from October -June. When I say rain I mean RAIN! In the winter it rains everyday. Some storms produce multiple days of sideways pelting rain all day & night long let me tell that pretty much sucks, with a capital SUCK. :scared1: I haven't figured out what I am going to do during the winter months yet.

I had a great day & I walked. I stayed away from the peanut butter yummies and feel I am off to a good start this week. Although their is plenty of week left.

One step & one day at a time right ladies! Sorry long winded tonight.

Hmmmm I haven't tried buying biofreeze yet... the samples seem never ending on that tote. But I am guessing that if you can't find them at your local walmart you could definitely find it at CVS or Walgreens.

One word of advice about biofreeze: Do not apply to arms or back! I was sooo sore one day I went a bit biofreeze crazy... :scared1: It was SO cold it burnt!! I had to shower to try and get it off. On the legs though, it is godsend!

Chris,
have you thought about joining your local YMCA? I HATED walking outside, so that was my excuse for not exercising, after joining the Y I didn't have any more ammo :rotfl: the atmosphere at my local Y is very laid back, not many muscle heads or teeny girls running around trying to "hook up" and hogging machines trying to look cute. the atmosphere at my local Y is very laid back, not many muscle heads or teeny girls running around trying to "hook up" and hogging machines trying to look cute. It motivated me a lot too.

Ugh, my old gym had those cute girls and muscle-bound guys all trying to get attention. I worked out there for 2 years and never spoke to anyone. The trainers would walk around and only talk to the cute girls, instead of offering their services to those of us who actually needed them.

My current gym is so much better. It's packed with people, but I don't feel like anyone is competing or showing off. There are some cute girls and muscle men, but they just do their own thing. My trainer is fantastic and I actually speak to people and have friends there. It's great!

I had a bit of a hard time with the workout last night. Final workout of week 1. But, I usually have my trainer appointment on Mondays, so I'm not used to dealing with the crowds on the cardio equipment. Trainer had to move me to Wednesday for the next 7 weeks. So, I tried to hit the treadmill for my walk/run first thing, but there were probably 10 people waiting. That's with something like 20-25 treadmills! I finally gave up and did 20 minutes on the ellliptical, which wore me out a bit. I wanted to row, but both rowers were taken, so I waited 10 minutes to get a treadmill. It was much more difficult doing the walk/run when I'd already done 20 minutes of cardio. But, I made it through. No real pain after this time, either, which is great.

I'm a little scared about this Thursday, when I start week 2. I'll go from 3 min walking/1 min running repeated 6 times to 2 min walking/1 min running repeated 10 times! Although, when I write it out in totals, so it's going from 18 minutes walking/6 minutes running to 20 minutes walking/10 minutes running, it doesn't seem quite as bad. I mean, I should be able to run 10 minutes... right??? Think I might do my first outdoor training on Saturday. Perhaps the track at the local junior high, or maybe a park just a short bit from my house. I think running outside will feel much nicer.

Thanks Nikki! Great job!!:cool1:

Sorta out of the blue but one of the things I have determined to do is to stop telling myself:
"I will do it once I lose some weight"
For an example:
"I will start going to the pool... once I lose some weight"
"I will join the gym... once I lose some weight"
"I will buy new cute clothes... once I lose some weight"
"I will go on a beach vacay or cruise... once I lose some weight"

I told myself that for YEARS before I just got fed up and joined the Y, then this summer I kept looking longingly at the pool, missing my swim-team days, and I went and bought me a plus sized bathing suit and you know what?! There were bigger people there too enjoying their water aerobics, so, if Jennie Q, age 60 on her tiger stripped one piece glory has the guts to go there and get healthy, well so do I!!! :rotfl: (In a way tamer number of course :upsidedow )

Don't let the fact that you are your size now keep you down from doing fun things that will do you good, keep moving forward and have fun with it! :cheer2:

I am happy to report that I got back on the road today. My shins were acting wonderfully for the first kilometer, which I finished in about 11 mins, but then I felt a slight pain on my right shin, so we headed back into the indoor gym area and I did some recumbent bike to cool off my legs since I have to learn patience and pacing.

I just slapped a liberal amount of biofreeze on them and added the shin support to compress them. I am so happy I could go back out, and I made sure to figure out my limits before I messed them up again.

Keep moving forward!!

Checking in after a week and a half's disappearance...

After the DL 5k, I thought to myself, "ok, what's next?" Here I had worked myself up about keeping the required pace. And with DH's help, I did it - even better than I had expected or hoped. If I could do the DL 5k, I could do any ol' 5k.

I've been so bad. I haven't gotten on the treadmill since. I know I should. If I don't use it, I'll lose it.

I did register for the San Diego Zoo 5k on Oct. 11; my niece and her son from out of town are coming and will walk with me. I haven't yet but fully intend to register for Sea World's 1mi/4mi walk on Oct. 4.

I keep dreaming/wishing/hoping about the Princess 5k. But at this time, I don't think it's affordable.

Hmmm, do you think I'm in a slump? Gotta find that motivation somewhere.

I totally agree I don't want to work out at a gym that is filled w/muscle heads & teeny girls complaining about their weight... No thanks.

Hold fast, ChocoKat, you'll do fine. Rest is most important now, so that you don't have any problems. Sounds like you're on the right track. I'm certain when I get to the point of actually running my first 5K, I'm going to freak out about it, so I can sympathize with where you are right now. But, you've trained and you're ready. Sending good vibes for your shins! :goodvibes

I had my regular trainer appointment last night and I felt unusually strong the full hour. I did a 15 minute warmup on the elliptical, did the full 1 hour appt (which is never easy) and then he had me do a 100 meter speed row, followed by a 400 meter speed row!! Usually, I can't even do a 300 meter row, when I'm fresh and just starting my workout (I typically do a 100 then two 200s). But, I did the full 400 in something like 2:40. Frankly, I was rather impressed with myself last night. I've never had that kind of energy throughout a trainer workout. I'm hoping it means the week of walk/run training has already strengthened me and improved my stamina. Next walk/run (first of week 2) is tonight.

ChocoKat

You are right, I should try and take it easy.
I noticed a dull pain on both shins through the day, it is there and won't go away, so I am guessing I might need to rest again today :headache:

I KNOW that if I go and push it I'll REALLY get hurt and then the whole point of training will be none. So I need to exercise patience :rotfl: it's a whooole 'nother work out :rotfl2:

Heh... if you had told me 3 years ago that I was freaking out and feeling down because I couldn't work out I'd think you are totally off your rocker.

Keep listening to your body! It will tell you when you need rest. However, I can also see myself "freaking out" before my first race. I"m going to sign up to do my first 5K in November. It will be right at the end of my "First Day 2 5K" training that I'm doing.

I went and did my 2nd interval run for the week. I was not thinking when planning my runs this week becuase today was my Dr.s appointment where I had my wart removed from the bottom of my foot. It hurt REALLY bad for about 3 hours after removal but I went out for my run with it at a dull ache. It is still aching at the moment...... OH well! I'll get over it!

Hi I just came across this thread when I seen it on someones siggy, but when is the EE marathon or walk? I dont want to participate cause im in no shape but I will be at Disney Sept. 20-26 and would like to maybe catch some of it and see what it is all about.

I have however been walking 1 1/2 miles with my friend 5X a week and feel pretty good.

Hey All!
I've had a great week, I've picked up my walking pace and increased my length of time. My thighs are a bit tight tonight but I'm hoping that will fade as I get use to the longer walks.
Tues = 58 minutes, Wed = 50 minutes, & today Thurs = 66 minutes.

ChocoKat ~ I agree w/Nikki you don't want to overdue it, listen to your body. You'll do great at EE. :thumbsup2

Nikki ~ I hope your foot is feeling better soon, wow you didn't even let your wort removal stop you from your interval training. :flower3:

Disneyluv ~ Keep up the great walking, you can do it sister. TOT can't wait to hear about that too. If the pain persists... well you know what you need to do. :rolleyes1

Annette ~ You must be getting really excited too. EE is right around the corner now. I can't wait to hear all about it. :3dglasses

Have a great night.
Keep moving forward!

Walk on. :cool2:

Thanks for the encouragement everybody!!! It really means a lot. I knew I could count on you!:grouphug:

I was grounded again yesterday, my shins kept feeling wonky all day and after a lot of agonizing (for no reason really :rotfl2: ) I decided to let them rest properly and just work on thinking my way through the course and figuring out my pacing.

This morning my right shin (the one that has REALLY been bothering me) woke up juuust fine! Yay!!! But my left one is still feeling a tad off :headache: I keep doing my toe raises and stretches to remedy the situation, and it seems to be working  .

I think I will go to the weight room today and just to upper body strength training. I'll be very mindful of my shin and by tomorrow it should be all healed up.

Also, my new bathing suit got in... it is a tad loose :lmao: but it made me happy! :rotfl2: my new sports bra should get in this afternoon, can't wait to try it!!!

Oh, and YES! It is ChocoKat from Hello Kitty, I love HK too, Badtz Maru the penguin is so cute too!

Haha! I just convinced most of my team to do a 5K in November for charity at work. :cheer2: Once the fitness bug bites you... it doesn't let go! I am also trying to gather some friends to register for the Princess 5K, looks like loads of fun!

Keep moving forward ladies!!!

Hey there and welcome!!!
The EE is the afternoon of the 27th, and you need party tickets to get in if you are not participating. Still there is plenty of ladies here that will be attending, so we'll make sure to let everybody know how the race went and take loads of photos!

1 1/2 miles are not bad at all! Keep going at it, maybe you should try the Princess 5K in March, that one you can walk I believe, the EE5K has a 16 min mile requirement :headache: so you have to walk REALLY fast to do it.

That is great that your are walking 5x times a week. :cheer2: This is what we do- we support each other. I'm glad you found us.

The EE has a pace requirement of 16 minute miles and the Princess 5k has a requirement of 15 minuted miles. Both are 5k(3.1 miles). But finishers get medals at both. The medals are awesome. Last year we did Tower of Terror 6.5k and the medal was the attraction with a elevator on a spring.

Hope everyone has a great day and KEEP MOVING FORWARD :)

Last night was workout 1 of week 2 for my 5K training. This was the walk 2 min/run 1 min, repeat 10 times. Wow! For a while there, I felt like I was going to slip into another dimension. Criminy that was hard! BUT, I did it! My trainer even came by and talked to me for a minute while I was running (which gave me a chance to do the "talk test" to be sure I wasn't overdoing my speed) and was very impressed (he doesn't run, either).

Not sure it was a good idea to do the run the day after my 1 hour trainer appointment, but such is life. I feel a little funky today, but I don't feel bad. Tomorrow will be the next workout for this week, which will be an actual outdoor run, so we'll see how I fare when I'm not on the treadmill.

tolemommy - That a LOT of walking! Way to go!

chunky - Welcome! Sounds like you're doing great, getting out there 5x a week!

I have been hopping around with joy for the last 5 minutes :rotfl2:
It is like a piece of armor, but looks great to wear on its own even.

chunky_azz- It is great to have you onboard! Sounds like you doing an awesome job with you walking!

tolemommy- One of the main reasons I did my run after getting my wart removed was because we are having company in from out of town and I don't see myself getting any runs in until Sunday night and that would have just been too long without a workout!

ChocoKat- great job on the training! I"m glad you like your new sports bra!! I know how hard it is to find clothing (especially bras) that fit like a glove!! Go on and advertise all ya like! Word of mouth is the best!

Magix- Good luck with the outdoor run! Be glad your not living in Michigan! We have had rain ALL day!

I havent done a thing since high school and Im ready to lose some weight and we started out small and are up to 1 1/2 miles and it kicked our rears the first few weeks and now we breeze thru it and are about to do 2 laps of the town and make it 3. Alright! Went for a 5K walk this evening, the weather was pretty nice out, I had a couple of snags during it all, first I had to readjust my shin bandages, then we had an invasion of miniature frogs all over the sidewalk!!! :rotfl: I am not kidding ya'll! :rotfl2: They were everywhere, I didn't want to commit froggicide, so on the first go round of the loops we make we spent 5 minutes hopping through teeny frogs :scared: we then just walked on the asphalt the whole way after that.

Yay for unused nice roadways! :rotfl:
Then DH accidentally reset our stop watch, so I couldn't figure out my time anymore for the whole course :headache: I was sooo frustrated, since it happened right at the middle too!

Ah well, I finished the whole thing with no pain and plenty of energy to go around an obstacle course and scavenger hunt, so we are getting there.

Keep Moving Forward!!!

Hello All,
It sounds like everyone had a great weekend! I took Saturday off no walking, just worked on my 2007 Disneyland Half Marathon scrapbook some more. It is turning out great. My sister made it & gave it for me to fill w/my DLHM pictures & memories last year before the DLHM.

Today Sunday was filled w/household chores & yard work. I counted my yard work as my exercise today, I mowed the lawns, weeded, and raked. Friday I walked another 62 minutes. I am going to start keeping track of time & distance so I can calculate how long it is taking me to walk a mile.

ChocoKat - Do you mind if I ask what brand of bra you ordered is & website? I sure could use a new piece of said "armor," that would keep my girls from jiggling, ok now I'm giggling. :rotfl: WOO HOO save the frogs, more giggling froggicide. I am glad your shins are feeling better and that you were able to finish your 5K walk pain free.

Magix - Great job on your workout keep it up GF, YOU ROCK & thanks! We can do this!

Chunky - Welcome!

Joymouse - Can't wait to hear all about EE, how excited you must be getting.

Annette - Bummer you had to work today, I hope you still had a great weekend, you must be getting very excited about EE too.

The sports bra I ordered is an Enell one.
I ordered from here (http://www.thelingeriestoreusa.com/enellsportsbra.html), it was the cheapest I found, and it was wonderful.
Most other places have it for $58 and up.

It really straps you in tight, at first I thought I ordered the wrong size, but no, it was right and snug and the girls are kept in place. Make sure you follow the sizing charts and that you measure yourself properly before pressing the check out button. I really cannot recommend it enough, great product!:yay:

Good Morning Everyone,

So, for those of us doing the EE, are you getting the clues?
We have gotten 3. The only thing that I am really freaked out by is the obstacle course. Climbing, balancing and crawling. Anyone have any idea what might be in store for us? I can't believe I paid someone money for this kind of torture. :rotfl2:

I don't work until 3 today, so I've time to work on packing. You'd think since we leave in less than 100 hours, I'd be done by now.

Have a great day and Keep Moving Forward :)

We have gotten all the clues so far.
I am worried about the obstacle course as well, but since it is suppossed to be fun I think it shouldn't be too bad. I am trying to make sure that i have enough energy after 5K to do some crazy climbing and then go on to finish the scavenger hunt.

Today I'll just walk a bit, and tomorrow I'll have another 5K paying more attention to the pacing plus an extra mile to see how much stamina I'll have left. Wow your cruise is just around the corner!!! How fun! I won't be getting to mine until February :rotfl: it'll be my very first DCL or any cruise by that matter.

I need to start thinking about packing lists, mousekeeping envelopes, etc. I think DH already handled our Boma breakfast ADR, I can't wait to try it for breakfast  . I am so excited, I just love the AKL, one of my favorite resorts!!!:dance3:

Looking very forward to hearing about the EE5K when you all get back! Sounds like a lot of fun!

ChocoKat - Glad you were able to do such a great time and without any major pain. That's terrific!

Sounds like everyone had a great weekend and got in whatever training was possible. I did my second workout of this week at the local junior high school track. I was amazed how many people were down there on a Saturday morning, walking, jogging, marathon training... really kind of cool. I made it through (although I was getting really tired of my interval alarm going off, telling me it was time to run again!) and realized that when you run on an actual track, it's really dirty! Dirty shoes, dirty socks, dirty pants leg. The gym is so much cleaner.

I think on Wednesday evening I might try to swing by the local running store and get fitted for a real pair of running shoes that will correct for whatever weird things my feet do while I run. That way, I'll be certain I've got the right gear and won't be likely to end up hurting myself. But, so far so good. I'm just hoping I can keep this up. Every time I'm in the process of running, I doubt whether I can make it all the way with this. But, every time I'm done running, I realize it wasn't really that bad.

Monday - 3.07 miles / 54 minute

I'm still trying to get to that under 16 mark. Hopefully, I will get there by the end of October.

Thanks Tolemommy!!!

I went out for a speedy run/walk today, did the mile in under 16 minutes again  stopped because my shins were acting up a lil bit. (Felt a very sharp localized pain on my left shin).

Came home, stretched properly, did toe raises and iced it up.
Then I freaked out :scared1: I saw my left toe and it was bruised at the joint somehow. It didn't hurt, didn't feel numb, so I tried to figure it out. The last time I remember hurting my feet was this morning moving stuff around at work, I accidentally dropped something sorta heavy on my foot... a couple times :rotfl: ah yeah I am the epitome of grace, reflexes and balance... NOT! :rotfl2:

That was a bad feeling there, thinking maybe being on my feet was causing it, reminds me of my main reason to get healthy: The threat of diabetes.:scared:

Sometimes a silly scare like that helps put thing into perspective.

On the lighter side and keeping on with the wildlife week, I saw a live armadillo tonight! It was actually sorta cute, sitting on the sidewalk as we walked back home, it just stood there looking at us and I got real close to it, they are so funny looking. I had seen another one on a long walk really early on a Saturday, but it was running away and on the distance... and I wasn't wearing my glasses so it could have been anything really.:lmao:

Keep moving forward ladies!
Today's thought: even if you skip working out for a couple of days, keep on posting, don't be afraid or feel bad, there is still today and tomorrow to get your walking shoes on and get out there and try again!

Did the last workout of my 2nd 5K training week last night. My gym trainer appt got moved to a half hour later than planned, so I ran first. I think I must have run faster at the track on Saturday than I do on the treadmill, because the running speed felt kind of slow. I resisted the urge to up the speed, so I didn't end up hurting myself.

Did my full 40 minute workout, then went straight into my trainer appt. My trainer saw that another trainer/client combo were on the rower, so he challenged them to a race. The trainer who's client lost would have to do 50 push ups! Somehow, I agreed to the crazy idea, although I had literally just finished my run & stretches! Half way through the 200 meter speed row, I came half-way off the seat of my rower and kept telling the other girl that she was going to beat me, because I wasn't on the rower right and I could see that her RPMs were higher than mine. We gathered a bit of a crowd around us as we raced and, somehow, I ended up finishing 1 second faster than her! Yay me! My trainer was very pleased. So was I, because I don't much like the other trainer and enjoyed watching him do his 50 push ups.

But, then I had to do a 30 minute appointment, full of lunges and a new, weird kind of squat and all kinds of difficult stuff. I can't believe I made it through all of that in one night. Glad one of my friends from work happened to be there to see it! I'm exhausted today, though.

So, Thursday evening will be workout 1 of week 3 for me. That will be walk 1.5 minutes/run 1.5 minutes, then walk 3 minutes/run 3 minutes, repeated 3 times. This is a big jump up from running 1 minute at a time! :scared:

Yesterday it was my rest day, I really did try to rest since my shins were hurting some, but I had to do a lot of stuff like lifting and standing around at work, so my legs were tired, then I had people over to bake for a charity event. I am making these treats for health nuts and diabetics at work, I'll just bring the muffins, I had to chuck the cookies, wow they were both ugly and terrible tasting :rotfl2:

Today I have to make a couple more things with normal ingredients, I ain't touching the double chocolate chip cookies or triple chocolate muffins once I am done though :lmao:

All in all my feet ended up swollen and all due to all the work and all the baking and the hosting, but I just put them up, applied biofreeze and ice (not at the same time:scared: ) and they are a bit better today. Might have to skip the run though :headache:

Do you just love biofreeze. I never used it before July after our last race. I hurt my back and couldnt move. The doctor i work for said try this and wow was it great. It currently packed in my luggage for after the race and even possibly during it. If i wear the wrong shoes or over train it keeps me moving. Yesterday was a great personal day. Right on, acourt!!!! That's really cool! I've got a couple shirts like that... I hope one day I'll proudly wear them, too.

Last night I visited A Snail's Pace running store and picked up a good pair of Asics running shoes. They watched me run across the store and said that I have a very neutral foot that didn't need any compensating for weird movements. That really surprised me. I figured my foot would be all over the place! They had me try shoes with various levels of cushioning and I ended up feeling like the least cushioned shoes were the most cushy. Weird. Also picked up a pair of moisture wicking socks and some Body Glide (I have a pre-existing wear point that really needs to go away!). So, tonight I'll run at the gym in my new shoes and see if they really feel good.

What was strange was that after a tiny little bit of running across the store (a very small place), my shins and knees were killing me! That scared me a little. Didn't matter which shoes and it didn't feel like it had anything to do with the shoes. Maybe it was the hard floor? I know my legs were tired from the night before at the gym, but really... Worried about what might happen tonight.

Hmmm I have the same problem, but it is due to flat feet, I have properly fitted shoes, but I can't run on ANY inclines (up or downhill), and let's face it, the real world is not perfect and bouncy like an threadmill :rotfl2: so I have decided walking and the elliptical are my 2 "land sports" of choice.

I do swim extremely fast and for a looong time though, call me Shamu :rotfl:
I think my next project includes buying a bike and trying a small triathlon.

Yeah, I think I may have to try running on concrete now and then, since that's what I'll mostly be on at AK. I did run on a local dirt track, which was fine, but I fear that concrete may be too much for me to take. Gotta do it, though. When I actually have some real time to go wherever I want for a Saturday run, I'll go to a park across town that's got a concrete 5K course and see what happens.

Just remember to take it easy, if your shins start acting up slow down to a walk, if they keep on at it, cease and desist. Do your stretches and good luck!!! :cheer2:
I learned that one the hard way, kept on going when I really shouldn't have and injured myself so badly that I am STILL trying to heal! :scared1:

It is easy street for me until the competition. I just can't risk my shins not healing:sad2: They were feeling really sore yesterday and today they were bothering me, so I am affraid I am on the bench until next week's race :scared: mommy!!!

Hello Ladies!!!

I got my run in today!!

I did my first day of Week 2 of the podcast interval running I"m doing.

I was out for 26 minutes and went about 2.2 miles!

Yesterday was just too hectic for me to get out and run! I got out of work at 7 and the had the repair man come and fix my dryer! It was just not happening. But today was awesome!!! I had NO pain anywhere throughout my run!!!

YIPPIE!!!!

Good evening ladies,

ChocoKat - Wow a triathlon :cheer2: What a great goal!!!

Magix - Give the concrete & dirt a whirl. Take it easy the first couple of times you walk/jog/run on it and see how you feel. ;) I walk outside everyday on a combination of concrete sidewalk and a gravel dirt path it's not bad.

Disneyluv - Great time girl! Enjoyed your yoga comment, can't wait to hear more about that class!

Joymouse - Did you mention doughnuts? ;)

nkkilala - Woo hoo week 2 of interval running and you did 2.2 miles in 26 minutes, that's great!

acourtwdw2 - I agree w/ChocoKat woo hoo about the shirt! :cloud9: and wow you did TOT last year, right on!

Here are my weekly stats so far:
Monday 9/15 - 10,666 steps - 4.20 miles
Tuesday 9/16 - 8620 steps - 3.40 miles
Wednesday 9/17 - 17917 steps - 7.06 miles
Thursday 9/18 0 steps - 0 miles :sad2: I had to take my youngest son to college today, it was move into the dorm day for incoming freshman.

It's official ladies I have an empty nest . My oldest son started his junior year of collge and today my youngest son started his freshman year of college. Suddenly this single mom's small home feels quite large. On the upside I am hoping this will help w/my weight loss goal.

Jogging is very beneficial. It's good for your legs and your feet. It's also very good for the ground. It makes it feel needed. ~Charles Schulz, Peanuts

Walk on ladies!:cool2:

Yesterday work was hectic, today it'll be bananas. My shins didn't get any rest during the day and then I came home to bake again for today's charity bake sale. I sampled one cookie and one cupcake, well... not a whole cupcake really I had a bite, then I gave it to DH. :rotfl: So I spent most of yesterday night on my feet again.

Still, I weighed myself today, and it goes DOWN then UP! :scared1: Running doesn't seem to help on the weight loss corner for me as much as the elliptical/recumbent bike/swimming do, just the injury side :rotfl2: . It is difficult to keep motivated when after 2 weeks of training I have been mostly grounded and the scale is not moving.:headache:

Ah well, I really hope I can get better soon, not being able to work out is making me sad :sad2: .

I've been working out (hard!) at the gym for 7 or 8 months now and haven't lost anything, except an initial 5 lbs. Seriously, the scale doesn't move at all! Every time I run, I think I ought to be able to peel a layer of fat off my belly or rear end! I mean, COME ON!!!

Don't focus on the scale too much, ChocoKat. Focus on the fitness. Look at how your measurements are changing and how much your endurance is improving. I do understand the frustration with the scale, though.

Last night I did my initial week 3 workout and it was HARD!!! WOWEE!! This was an even walk/run workout. 1.5 min walk/1.5 min run, 3 min walk/3 min run, repeated 3 times. I had some serious moments of doubt as I made my way through it! About half way through, I thought, "Maybe I should just stop right now and not do this anymore." But, I kept going and I did the whole workout. I was absolutely beet red at the end. My forehead and cheeks looked like I had the worst sunburn ever! My trainer even laughed at me, although he was happy I was the one running and not him. My feet were hot, my face was hot, my left calf felt like I was going to get a charley horse. :faint: 3 minutes running is a big jump from my previous 1 minute! I am NOT looking forward to doing it again tomorrow morning. But, I will do it.

ChocoKat- Hang in there!!! I think scales were the worst things ever invented!!! I HATE them with a passion and have been using them less and less. To me they only hinder my exercise! Focus on other aspets, such as endurance, and mileage! Some days i'm happy that I just get out and DO my exercise! I know its tough but YOU CAN DO IT!

Magix- Way to push through it!!! I can't even think of running for 3 minutes right now!!! I can barley last the 90seconds!!
During my Intervals yesterday I thought "you know I could walk all of this and no one would know" but then I remembered that I would have to come report here..... so then I got my butt in gear!

Keep it up ladies!!! You are all awesome and an inspiration to me!!

Are we all weighing in on the same scale? :confused3 I whole heartedly agree & share my fellow fat chicks frustration with the scales lack of negative movement... I agree we will focus on our endurance, improved physical & mental health, and remember how far we've already come.

Yay!!! Nikki, awesome job! Very proud of you for getting up so early on a weekend too!

Yesterday work was a killer, we made a whole bunch of money on the bake sale though, but it was crazy trying to help with it in between meetings, etc etc :scared1: .

I was crabby that afternoon, I barely had any lunch and I just had a soup for dinner. My right shin didn't feel very good, but I printed out a 5K circuit that runs by my office to walk it out either today or tomorrow depending on my shins. I have decided to stop punishing myself for not working out and remember that I HAVE to get better first!:upsidedow

You ladies and your words of encouragement helped me a bunch.

So after finding and printing the route I sat on the couch and totally passed out! I was so tired. But I woke up today in much better spirits and energized. Let's hope my shins agree with me this time! :lmao:

Alright!
Back from outside, went to run errands, etc.
Went to the running shoes store and had them look at my NB's and the insoles.
They said the shoes are far from dead, but they noticed the inserts were a bit flat on the arch (I did tell you I have the flattest arch ever :rotfl: ).

So we bought new inserts and it really felt like it made a difference.

I am resting my shins today, they are still feeling very iffy. I got some men's running shirts at target, since apparently fat girls don't run :confused3 :rotfl: I don't know what we are thinking not sitting in a couch all day eating chocolates and wearing moomoos :sad2: we really have no shame trying to run and be healthy, tsk tsk! :rotfl2:

I did a bit of reading & research for us. When you hit a plateau or your weight loss has slumped here are three things you need to re-examine & focus on.

1 ~ Focus re-set your goals and your mind set. Break larger goal into smaller manageable goals. Record your goals and display them where you can see them daily. This visual reminder will help to inspire & also assist you when your having a crapola minute, hour, day, or week.

2 ~ Nurtition & diet again re-examine what you've been eating. Have you been eating more because you been exercising more? Keep track of your eating on the a simple monthly calendar w/a simple smiley face, neutral face, or a sad face for each days eating. Again this will assist & inspire you when you are in a rut, slump, or plateau because at the end of a week or at the end of the month you will have a whole month of eating smiley's to look back on.

3 ~ Exercise change it up, change your workout days, increase & vary your amount of exercise, add some cardio, try a new & different type of exercise once a week, boost your heart rate by using weights when possible. Record your exercise daily on the same monthly calendar so you can see your daily, weekly, and monthly exercise totals & progress.

I've decided to break my goals up in the following manner to help me get through the holiday season w/o gaining the usual 10 pounds and hopefully help me loose some weight. I will record on my monthly calendar faithfully everday my eating smiley & exercise totals. My weight loss goal will be 15 pounds and my exercise goal will be to find and enter my first 5K by Christmas day!

First goal ~ 6 weeks to Halloween -all tricks no treats this year for me.
Second goal ~ 4 weeks to Thanksgiving - to be less of a butterball.
Third goal ~ 4 weeks to Christmas - my gift to myself is to complete my first 5K by Christmas day.

Sorry for the length of this post! :flower3:

Tolemommy, great pointers!! Thanks!

I just routed myself tonight's 5K (and some more) using http://www.walkjogrun.net/ , it is an awesome tool that I hadn't seen before.

Now for my goals...

1)Finish the EE5K and get my medal
2) Eat just a bit of candy this Halloween... not a whole bag :rotfl:
3) Get better time at the charity 5K I just signed up for at the office on Nov. 20th.
4) Go to the pool to train 3 times a week and do cardio and weight training 3 days.
5) Try and go down one size of clothing by December.

Great news ladies!
I just came back from a 5K walk/run and I did it with just over one minute over the 16 min/mile AND... my shins are PERFECT!!! :dance3: :cheer2:

The new inserts did it!!! WooHoo!!!
I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am, and also surprise that the inserts did such an incredible difference! I also had a handicap... sorry if it is TMI but I had to take an extra strength midol around an hour before my run :headache: mother nature sure knows how to make things... errr... "interesting".
So I am thinking that I was running a bit under the weather, so I am confident now that I can manage this weekend's (OMG it IS this weekend! :scared1: ) 5K without TOO much drama... (notice I didn't say without :rotfl: ).

I still have energy to spare, so yay!

Thank you for the motivation and keep on moving!!!!

That's why I post here, on the Buzz Brigade thread and on another website that I frequent, besides telling everyone around me all about my training. That way, if I want to give up, I think about all the people to whom I'd have to admit my failure. Keeps me going.

I still wonder why on Earth I'm doing this... BUT, my Saturday run at the Jr High track went much better than Thursday's adventure at the gym. I've decided I need to run outdoors more often. It's just too hot in the gym (and that treadmill clock is so annoying). So, while I still have a month before the time change, I'm going to try to do more running in the neighborhood after work. Should be heading out for my first try at that tonight. I think I've devised a route that doesn't involve too many nasty hills (hard to do in my neighborhood). Plus, it will give me a chance to try running on concrete. One more workout at 3 minutes, then on Thursday I'll move on to week 4, which ups it to both 3 and 5 minute runs, with very little walking in between!! :scared1:

Glad to hear everyone's doing well to start this week! Good luck to all of you doing the EE!! You'll do great! :thumbsup2

Magix
09-23-2008, 02:18 PM
Completed week 3 with a run around the neighborhood last night. Had to add a bit onto the route, since it didn't seem to be quite as long as it said when I mapped it out at walkjogrun.net (thanks for that link, ChocoKat!). Concrete didn't seem to be bad, so I'm pleased with that fact. It was a little embarassing running past people's houses, breathing hard as I ran, since I tend to think that I breathe so loudly when running that the entire neighborhood can hear me (though I hope it's not actually true).

I made it home just at dusk. Looking online at sunset times for the coming month, it appears I'm not going to be able to do after-work runs for long, unless I find someplace that's lit. No idea where that would be, though. Too bad, because I really prefer running outdoors now. Thursday night will start week 4. Going to be a tough one!

I did experience some pain in my left calf again at the end of the run, when i was doing the cool-down walk. Seemed to be generally ok after I stretched, but it worries me a bit that I keep experiencing the problem. The right calf is fine, though. Weird.

nkkilala
09-23-2008, 09:45 PM
Magix- I agree with you on the stinky sunset times!!! I get home from work most days at 7:30 and literally have to do a quick change and RUN out the door! I like running outside better than the gym too! I have a nice route planned out that goes around the lake by my house. It is nice becuase there are only houses on 1 side of the road and it stays pretty quite. The negative thing is that it is POORLY lit. I'm going to have to find another area or stay at work and get on the treadmill (yucky)

I barley made it out tonight before dark! I got the 3rd episode of week 2 in. On Thursday I start week 3 which is 3 minutes of running/3 of walking....I'm a little hesitant but I know I can do it!!

I hope all of the EE challengers are making their way down to Florida safely!!! Good luck to all of you! We will be rooting for ya!!

Keep on moving!

Ok so I did my run today!!

I get to work at 8am and we had 2 patients cancel on us so we didn't have anyone until 9:20am. I was going to work out at work this afternoon becuase we have NO patients however I moved up my workout to the morning.

This was the first time I did my interval run/walk on a treadmill! It went pretty good!!

I went for 30 minutes. The workout is below
5 min warm up
90sec run
90sec walk
3min run
3min walk
90sec run
90sec walk
3min cool down.
3min cool down for me!

I was so excited becuase I didn't even feel winded with the 3 min run! I don't know if it was the treadmill or the TV infront of me but something was making it feel easy!

Good luck to eveyone with the race!!

Way to go, Nikki! I don't think I've done a run of any length without feeling winded!

Hope all our EE girls did well today! (It was today, right?)

I did workout 1 of week 4 last night at the Jr High track. IT WAS HARD!!! This was my first attempt at 5 minute runs. I just tried to make it through without passing out in front of all the soccer parents watching their kids at practice! WOW, this one was difficult. I took longer walks between runs than what the program said to do, mostly because I couldn't get my interval watch to work on this one and was busy fiddling with it. But, it was just an extra minute or so, so no big deal. I'm so not looking forward to doing this workout again tomorrow morning, though. Egads!!

On the up side, I think I've convinced a friend of mine to join me for the Dana Point 5K on Thanksgiving. Yay! That should make my first race a lot more fun.

I am a bit freaked out, but they said that if we have a problem with them, we can just keep going. Also if we take a bit too long they'll let us go on to the scavenger hunt. All in all, they seem to be very easy going, so I am not as nervous.

Still I have a case of butterflies and by tomorrow afternoon I'll be going bananas!!

Well I thought the EE was Yesterday but it appears that it is Today!!!

GOOD LUCK LADIES!!!

tolemommy- I have been listening to a pod cast titled "pod runner intervals" It has different music (with out words mostly) that it set to different beats per minute. You run on the beat and it lets you know when it is changing by chiming. It is free to download. I like it because I don't have an interval watch and am horrible at counting and such. The program does all of that for me! I like to be lazy when I work out! LOL

here is the site: http://www.djsteveboy.com/1day25k.html

I started with the First Day to 5K program. They have other ones as well (8K and 10K) that I will probably slowly progress to.

Ladies, I DID IT!!!
I still can't believe it! I walked/trotted the whole 5K, the obstacles were way harder than I expected, but I was allowed to walk around them. I just KNOW I'd have gotten seriously injured otherwise. DH did make it through all of them, and he was FAST!!! DH always surprises me, he doesn't look like a buff guy, but he is a very fast runner and can go through hurdles, nets and elevated balance beams like a pro!!

The scavenger hunt part was so much fun! And easy! I loved every second of it. I now am a proud owner of a cool medal, and I can say I survived the Yeti.

I wasn't dead last either, which sorta made my day :rotfl:

I just have one question though... when do I sign up for the next one?

I went out this morning and did my week 3 workout again. It was harder outside that it was on the treadmill Friday! I thought I was going to die!!! ( well not really but I felt like I wanted to stop running) I did get through it, however, my legs are just so sore!

Congrats to the rest of you who did the EE!!! I hope no one was attacked by the Yeti!

CONGRATULATIONS, CHOCOKAT!!!!! Way to go! And your medal opens up into a compass?? How cool is that?!!? I'm very impressed that you made it through. Great work!

tolemommy - Here's a link to the training plan I'm using: http://www.active.com/running/Articles/How_to_Run_Your_First_5K.htm . I didn't want to go with an iPod version, since most races won't let you run with an iPod and I didn't want to get used to running to music, because it might mess me up when I have to do a race without it.

So, I just completed week 5 of the program (my week 4) last night. OMG!! This was, by far, the most difficult workout yet. Each time, I ended up fudging a bit on the walking times to allow myself to catch my breath. I did manage to get through each workout, amazingly. Last night, on my next to last 5 minute run, there was about a 30 second period where I was pretty sure I was going to throw up. But, fortunately, the feeling passed and I was able to finish the full workout.

BUT, at then end of the final run last night, I realized my entire left foot was numb. That was kind of scary. It stayed numb for about half of my walk home, but then was okay. Not sure what caused that, as I've been running in these shoes for 2 weeks and hadn't had any inkling of a problem like that before. I was on concrete for most of the run, so that may have played a part. I'll have to see how things go on my next workout.

Week 6 (my week 5 of training) is 2 days of 5 min running/3 min walking, repeated 4 times. Then 1 day of 8 min running/5 min walking, repeated 2 times. I think I can make it through that. At least now I can email with my friend, who's also doing the Turkey Trot, and commiserate with her. She's picked up the training plan at week 6, so we're on the same workout.

Hello Girls....:wave2:
Sorry to be lurkin on this thread, but just thought I would throw something out there.

There is a walkers thread on the WISH, with lots of walkers of different levels. It's kinda slow right now, but the walkers who do the different disney or other events/races share their experiences.
Dave (Panda) is a much experienced walker and can help with any questions you may have on technique, tips, etc.
If you find yourself in need of experiences of WISH walkers, come on over and introduce yourselfs. We are a fun "back of the pack" bunch of people!!

Hey Everyone :)

We're finally home after a great 12 day vacation. The EE was a lot of fun. We didn't do the obstacles. If the skinny people were having trouble, there was no way my fat butt was going to be able to do it :0 Maybe next year.

Glad to hear that everyone is having success with their training.

I'll write more later. I just wanted to check in.

ChocoKat, thanks for posting & sharing the pictures, your medal looks way cool!

Nikki, good luck on your upcoming week 4, I'm trying to get up the courage to start week 1.

Annette, welcome back can't wait to hear all about your vacation & EE.

Magix, thanks for the link I'll surf on over and check it out! Your doing great! I hope your foot is ok! I love the name of your run Turkey Trot, now that's my kind of race. Is is a 5K?

Tracy, welcome and thanks for the link and information about the other walkers thread. I loved your "back of the pack," comment.

I'm having an ok week, I've been busy! I''ve had something going on after work every day so far this week. Looking forward to tomorrow cuz I can go straight home and get my extra walk in.

So, I've done the first workout of my week 5. This one was 5 min run/3 min walk, repeated 4 times. I made it through! My left foot started to go numb again, but not nearly as badly. I didn't tie the laces as tightly, but I suspect I still need to loosen the lower laces more. Although the mileage wasn't as far, either, so if I'd done more, it might have gone completely numb.

I just mapped out the route I did on Monday and it turns out it was exactly 3.1 miles! Hey! I did a 5K in 45 minutes! That's a good sign! Add a little more running or quicker walking and I know I'd be okay for the actual races, even if I don't manage to run the whole distance. That's comforting to know.

Hello hello!
No I did not fall off the edge of the Earth :rotfl:
Boy my legs are still recovering from the EEC and the fun at DisneyWorld.'

I went to the gym yesterday, tried work out 2 of the 5K plan, but had to stop because my right leg was not having it. So after 15 minutes on the treadmill I moved on to the elliptical bike and did a good 20 minutes in a high setting.

Today I am off to the pool for my first fall swim. I really hope they turned the heaters on!

Keep moving forward ladies! You are doing an outstanding job!!!:cheer2:

Hello everyone!

I hope your having good weekends!

I did my workout this morning. The first one of week 4 for me...

It involved running for 3min, and two sets of 5min runs with walks in between.

Oh boy did I feel whipped after the 2nd run of 5mins. But I made it through!

and I don't feel too many after affects.

My friend Mary626 and I went to Detroit yesterday for our Mickey Balloons!!

How fun Nikki!!!

I have been playing with the idea of the Princess 5K as well.
It is a 15 min/mile pacing and if I keep training I can def. do it, but I am not sure how we will be doing money wise by then, (I am planning on quitting my job and starting on a new career path in January), so I haven't quite made plans for it just yet.

I have heard it is around half way full already though.

I nearly didn't go swimming today, but I talked myself into it and it was wonderful! There was not a single cloud in the sky, the big Olympic pool had just been cleaned and the water was nice, warm and a very pretty and clear blue. Now that summer is over it is funny to see all the bigger ladies come out and do their laps still when the only other people around are the hardcore triathletes and swimmers.

Tomorrow is the recumbent bike again at the gym and Monday it is swim time after work. I need to figure out what kind of gear I need for the pool when it gets cooler outside.

ChocoKat,

It funny but every time you referred to swimming before this I pictured a pool like at my YMCA......INdoors!!! It seems so odd to this Michigander that you can swim outside! I would love to have a swimming pool outside like yours in my town! How fun!!

Yup, living in Florida has its perks. It really doesn't get very cool until November.
The air is starting to get nippy, but the good thing is that the municipal pools that stay open year round are heated, so you can still swim outside.

The only problem is getting OUT of the water :rotfl:
The sun was very warm yesterday so all I did was lounge a bit in the sunshine and I was good to go, but I'll have to figure things out when it starts getting cloudy and the wind chill hits, because it can get really really cold out.

OK I am off to the gym!

WOW Nikki ~ love the pictures & how cool are those balloons! What was the occasion? If you can afford the costs & you have a friend to train and do the Princess 5K with I say go for it! I wished I lived closer... Disneyland HM is the only Disney race on the west coast. :sad2:

ChocoKat ~ I thought you swam in a indoor pool too. Living here in WA where it rains 9 months out of the year all of our pools are indoors. I can't wait to hear all about your winter swims in the snow.

Wouldn't it be way cool if all of us could afford to run the Disney Princess 5K together. We could get matching shirts, how fun would that be. ;)

I've been MIA as well my nephew whom I use to babysit all the time when he was little wife had a baby Thursday evening. A very cute girl, hard to believe he is 26 & now a father already. Anyway my youngest son came home from college for the weekend on Friday so we visited my nephew, his wife, and my new great niece.

We had a huge rain & wind storm yesterday, a huge branch broke off a tree and landed in my front yard. Part of my town lost power, we didn't luckily. Anyhoo no walking for me yesterday due to high winds and rain. No wind today just some light rain, I'm off to shower & walk.

Keep moving forward!

Okay, so I have my first running-related doctor's appointment first thing Monday. For about 2 weeks now, I've been feeling increasing pain in my meniscus (just below and to the inside of my right knee) the day after training. Friday at lunchtime, it got really bad. I had walked a couple blocks from my office to CVS to get some icy hot for it and it really didn't like doing the short walk. It hurt so bad, I wanted to cry. Also got one of those Velcro straps for just under the knee, hoping it might help (as much as I didn't want to have to wear one of those).

I ran Saturday (probably shouldn't have) with the strap on. It did hurt again fairly badly about mid-day Saturday, but not as bad as Friday. Resting it today, but I can see that it's a little bit swollen (Have I iced it? No, that would be too smart). So, I'll have the doctor take a look Monday a.m. and tell me what he thinks. Best to get it checked now, before I do some serious damage.

Hope this doesn't throw me out of my training schedule. I need to run again Monday night.

Aw Magix, please be careful.
I know it is difficult to rest, (heck read my posts leading to the 5K :rotfl: ) but it really pays off to let it all heal properly.

Of course it sounds a bit hypocritical coming from me :rolleyes1 now since I have what feels like a slightly ruptured something or another by my right shin and I keep on going anyway, but I have stopped running and just do recumbent bike and swimming for now until it recovers.

Take care of yourself! It is all part of the training!!!

The doctor gave me a prescription for some pain/anti-inflammatory pills, plus sent me for an x-ray to rule out a stress fracture. As he said, "There are all kinds of things that could be going on in there." Not sure how long I have to wait to hear back on the x-rays. I asked if I could run tonight and he said "Yeah." (dang!) So, I'm going to give it a try and, if it hurts badly, I'll just stop. I'm supposed to up it to 8 minutes running tonight, so I'm not sure how this is going to go. I'm just afraid if I don't run tonight, I'll get out of whack on my training schedule and it will be all downhill from there.

I will be careful, though, and I will stop if I feel like there's any serious problem.

10-07-2008, 01:46 PM
So, I did my two 8 minute runs last night and it was the strangest thing... it was the best run I've yet experienced. Part of me wants to think it was because I took one of those pain/anti-inflammatory pills just before heading out, but most of me knows that had nothing to do with it. I was definitely still feeling pain, but only when I did the walking time. I slowed myself down a bit, which allowed me to get through the 8 minutes without any problem. At my usual pace, I should have done 2 2/3 laps of the track in 8 minutes, but at my slower pace I was doing 2 1/4 laps. Still, pretty good. So, I figure for these longer run times, I need to slow it down and get used to running that kind of time, then I can work on speeding it up later.

Have to say, I was very pleased with how last night went. I have had some pain in my knee, but nothing horrible as yet. I plan to ask my trainer to take it easy on my legs tonight, though, just to be safe.

It's amazing... I feared this run so much, but it turned out to be so good. Go figure.

The rain and wind finally cleared today ;) we had a beautiful sunny fall day. I got out and walked on my favorite trail. It felt so good to be outside in the sun and enjoy the brisk fall air. I've got to purchase a rain coat soon, so I can continue to walk in the rain.

Hello ladies!
Did a 1 and some mile walk yesterday.
I was going back to week one of my 5K training, but my legs started to really hurt around midway :confused3

I think I need to go to the doctor, like Magix, but I gained a bunch of weight back since the last time I was there, and I don't want to get scolded or feel like I let my doctor down (it has been way over a year since my last visit). I think weight issues is the number one reason why I avoid the doctor's office.

I never go until I am so miserable that if I get scolded I really don't care. I am lucky my doctor now is very sweet and thoughtful and doesn't give me much grief, but he praised me so much last time for my weight loss, I'd HATE to disappoint him:guilty:

So i am back to just walking and swimming. Ah well... maybe it'll get better with time. I am planning on shoe shopping this weekend, the shoes I have now are definitely messing with my ankles and shins, so I will be looking for proper fitted shoes for work.

I am also doggy sitting a friend's dog and I'll take him for some long walks until Friday. Keep moving forward ladies!

Magix
10-08-2008, 01:07 PM
ChocoKat - Go to the doctor. If you get any grief, do be sure to mention you just did the EEC. In my book, that's worth an awful lot! Means you're out there doing what you can. If you were just sitting around, not even trying to do anything, THEN your doctor could give you grief.

tolemommy - I love your new avatar! Hope you find a nifty raincoat to make you feel good out there in the rain. I'm starting to think about what to wear if it starts getting cold around here. Fortunately, being in So Cal, I don't have to worry about that too much.

Still trying to figure out where I'm going to run when it gets dark earlier. I had an area sort of chosen, but it's still a bit darker than I'd prefer and there's lots of vegetation, which means there's a likelihood of those big, ugly orb spiders hanging around. I'd freak out and faint if I ran into one of those suckers. Yeah, my fear of spiders (giant spiders, especially) is enough to make me choose a different running location. I really don't want to have to run at the gym!

No word yet on the x-ray. Still on the medication and still feeling some pain, but nothing really horrible. My trainer did take it easy on my knees and just did upper body work with me last night, although now my arms are worn out and don't want to work!

nkkilala
10-09-2008, 10:09 AM
ChocoKat- I agree that you should see the doctor. Any doctor who could criticize you for your weight when you are working so hard (Running a 5K!!) is crazy! I'm sure your doctor will understand. If not ask her/him the last time they ran a 5K!

Well I did not run last night. It was raining. It wasn't supposed to be raining but it was....there wasn't even green on the weather map but it was raining.

I DID run this morning after class though! I was REALLY dying during my 2nd 5minute run!!! OH BOY! I might have to do this week 4 routine for 2 weeks!!

But at least I'm moving!

Magix
10-10-2008, 01:45 PM
I only had one 8 minute run (and two 5 minute runs) in the program for last night, but I was able to do it at my regular 12:00 mile pace this time, which made me happy. I actually extended the final 5 minute run to a 6:30 minute run, which took me back to where I'd left my water bottle.

It sure is getting dark just before the end of my run these days. Won't be long before I've got to do this at the gym. Yuck! I left a message for the athletics department at my local University (and alma mater), to ask if their track is lit every night and if it's open to the public, but, as I expected, they haven't bothered to call me back. I REALLY don't want to move my run indoors!

X-ray results came in the mail yesterday and it showed nothing unusual. Of course, reading online about stress fractures it says it's extremely difficult to diagnose them by x-ray. The doctor really didn't give me any guidance on how to deal with this pain or what it might be, so I'm not sure what to do now. I've still got the NSAID medicine, but I don't like taking pills for long.

I have to confess that I haven't do anything exercise wise since we got home from WDW. I don't know what is wrong with me, but I just haven't been into doing it. I know, I just need to get out there. That is the reason that I haven't posted much. Guilt, I guess.

Nikki-congrats on the 5k. That is awesome. Amanda and I are doing the Princess 5k, so we will be there with you. I changed the first post to reflect that.

Hey, no worries, if you don't exercise. It happens to the best of us all the time, just keep posting, we won't scold you.

I went for two long walks this week thanks to my friend needing me to doggy sit. I did at least 2.79 Km at a very brisk pace and I wasn't even tired, it was too cool. I am going to the pool for a while tomorrow morning or maybe a 5K before meeting a friend for coffee.

Today I wanted to go to the pool, but work has been so much drama... it was like "all of my co-workers" crazy edition episode, so I had some beers with my co-worker friends and DH on Friday and today I stayed home and de-stressed... I tell ya it was a trying end of week. Lots of talks with HR, drama galore, yadda yadda yadda.

Ah well hopefully next week it'll be much better.

Magix
10-13-2008, 03:08 PM
Hope things get better for you at work, ChocoKat. Sounds like way too much drama.

Nikki - Great work! I keep worrying about pacing for the 5K, myself. Even running all or most of it, I keep fearing that I won't make the pace. Luckily my first 5K (Dana Point) doesn't have a pacing requirement, so I can see how I do, but without worrying if I go over a 15 minute pace.

Annette - Everyone gets to take a break now and then. No judging from us!

So, Saturday I did my first 10/3/10 workout. I was surprised that I made it through both 10 minute runs okay. It was a beautiful morning and I think that helped. My friend met me at the track and did her first 25 minute run. She did a great job. She only walked about 30 seconds of it and stopped another 30 seconds for some water. But, she ran all the rest and I was very proud of her. Not sure how I'm going to fare when I try the same workout on Wednesday this week! All running, no walking!! Eeeek!!

Well, the drama at work continues, but yesterday DH and I went for a 3.8 Km walk before meeting a friend for coffee.

I would have done all 5K, but I would have been a bit late to meet with my friend. Still, walking we clocked at 15 min/mile, so I was very happy.

There was a downside to all of this though... today I woke up and my rear end was so sore!!! :lmao: I really worked my legs on that way I guess. I am going to the pool today, hopefully it'll help with the soreness.

Tomorrow I'll do a 5K walk, soon it will feel like nothing! :cool1:

The sun is setting way earlier now, so we had our first "night" swim of the season. It was so cool! There was an odd wind chill but the water was just fine, I loved having the stadium lightning on and the underwater lights as well. Plus you could see the beautiful moon as you swam.

Last night's run has really wiped me out. My knee hurts pretty badly today, too. Tomorrow is my first 25 minute run, so I'm not sure how I'm going to fare in that one. I think I'll run the neighborhood, instead of the track, just because I don't want to watch the laps tick by as slowly as they will on that run. Plus, it's getting dark so early that I'd rather be on the neighborhood streets, with streetlights, than on the track, with no lights, down in a little bowl where no one can see me after all the soccer practice kids leave.

I'll be in Vegas 10/16-22. I'm planning to do my runs there, but I keep wondering how I'm going to fare walking around all day with my knee hurting like it does. At least the first few days are at the racetrack, so I can sit most of the day, if I need to. But, the last few days are just vacation time with my dad. I may need to do some pool time and send him off on his own. Besides, I don't think there's much of anything new since last time we were out there and I don't have THAT MUCH gambling money!!

Huh... I feel like I should do something to make my backside hurt, just so I can join the club today! ;)

nkkilala

Magix,
Good luck on your run!!! You can do it!!! As for Vegas....you know for the vacation part it is ok to take a few days rest! All the walking will keep your body moving just not pounding like running.

To get your backside hurting you can always lie on your tummy and do leg lifts!!

Well My run today did NOT go well...

I should have known that today would not be a good running day. I have had bad allergies for the past 3 days.

I started my session with a 5 minute warm up, then it was a 5 minute run....well after the run I felt an asthma attack coming on. I did my walking for 3 minutes and new instantly that I couldn't run again.

My chest was tight and I just couldn't get in any deep breaths. I called my hubby to come and get me with my inhaler......

I feel defeated, however, I know there was nothing I coudl do about. I think I'll check with my allergist next week to see if he can give me an inhaler to help prevent further attacks. I'm also going to go out with my inhaler from now on.....time to get a fanny pack!

I hope everyone else had better days!!!!

Keep moving!

No, I can't take a break for that week. As it is, my training schedule won't get me to a full 5K until the middle of the week prior to the race (Dana Point), so I don't have any days to spare. I've had to extend the training schedule to get me from where the program leaves off at 32 minutes running, so I can work myself up to 40 minutes running, which is what it will take to finish at my pace! No breaks for me!

Although... today I just feel like quitting the whole thing. :sad2: I'll feel better tomorrow, I'm sure. Just one of those days.

Hope you get your asthma under control, nikki. That can't be a good feeling. We've been having Santa Ana winds around here the past couple days and it made yesterday's run a little harder than usual, breathing all that dirt in the air.

Aw ladies! I am sorry your work outs have been such a bust!

Please please be careful! I understand the need to finish the training, but what is the point of finishing the plan if you can't give it your all come race day? Don't go overdoing it! Just listen to your bodies and adjust, I believe in you!

I felt like giving up my 5K right before it even started, I really did. I hadn't finished my plan, I had had lousy training sessions, I just didn't know if I could do it, but I did!

If I can do it so can you! Don't give up!

Today I am borrowing my friends doggy for a very fast 5K run. Wish me luck, it is the first 5K since my race. I am looking forward to it!

WooHoo!
I am back and had a resounding success!!
I made the whole 5K... plus an extra half K and kept a 15.2 min mile pace walking. Woot Woot!

I had to stop just a couple of seconds here and there to tend to doggy pick up and once because my shoelace came untied, so I have to say I impressed myself!

I am starting to ponder the Princess 5K more and more now

Ladies,

First things first: please make sure that you are taking care of yourselves. Make sure that you are listening to your body and resting when needed.

Choco- Nice job tonight. Maybe that is the secret-run with a dog.

I'm trying to find somewhere in our town to run inside once the weather turns nasty. I cannot run on a treadmill (it scares me, think George Jetson but with a large woman). Wish me luck.

I think we should all do the Princess 5k. That would be great :)

Keep Moving Forward

Annette :)

Nikki - Congrats on entering the Princess Race! I am confident you will make the 15 minute pace. Keep up the training and you will do great!

ChocoKat - Wow your nighttime swim sounds beautiful. The moon and pool lights on a fall night. Once a month in the summer when I was growing up our local pool would have night swim, it was loads of fun, my parents always took us, it's a fond memory. Feel free to borrow my pugs Parker & Disney if your friends dog isn't available. ;)

Magix - You are my inspiration girl! You won't even let a trip to Las Vegas slow you down! How proud I am of you! You rock!

Annette - Can I relate to the weather. I can't avoid the rain here in WA. Instead I am going to buy a good raincoat and walk except on the days... when the sideways rain is pelting me.

Ladies you all inspire me to keep moving forward and continue my journey toward weight loss & my 15 minute pace for the DLHM.

Wishing I could run, walk, and or crawl the Princess with all of you!

Walking On :cool2:

If I could do the Princess, I would, too. But, my January trip to WDW is the only one I can swing right now.

Tolemommy - Thanks for saying I'm your inspiration! That's extremely cool to hear.

So, I've managed to COMPLETELY freak myself out about tonight's 25 minute run. Trying to calm my nerves by looking at it as two 12:30 runs. So what if there's no walk in between them? If I need to walk 30 seconds or a minute here and there, I can do that and not consider the evening a failure. Right? Right???

OK... it's OK... I'll be OK... Just 2 runs, adding 2:30 onto each of the 10 minute runs I did last time. I don't need a walk in between. I can do this. I'm tough, I'm resilient. Oy....

Back from another night swim. The moon didn't come out to greet us today, but the synchronized swimming team was there and provided lovely swimming music.

My arms and legs are sooo tired, but in a good way. I think tomorrow I'll do another 5K, I really like the route I figured out, it is well lit, on a nice neighborhood, and passes by my office, so if I need anything after or before the run I can go into my building and get some water or use the powder room :rotfl:

I hope everything went well Magix, don't feel terrible if it didn't, I was sending you good vibes all afternoon! :grouphug:

Hi everyone.
My best to all of you. You are truly my inspiration.
My 2 daughters have signed us up for the Princess 5k. They want to keep me in shape since I have just recently retired and have put on a few (too many) pounds over the past years.
I have started to do more walking the past few months and just now have started to work towards the C25k in the part 2 weeks. It's been tough but I am convinced I can do this. Wish me luck since my time stinks and I need to really work at this.
Thanks for listening.

Hello Gretchen!
The Princess 5K is a great way to get started. My first 5K was the Expedition Everest Challenge last month and I have gotten hooked!!

Don't give up on your training and keep coming by for encouragement! You can do this!!!

I went out to buy veggies for my dinners and some gift cards for a b-day party yesterday after work at Costco, and you know what I found at a great price? The wii fit!!!

I hadn't seen one of them on sale anywhere since it was released, and it was just $79 buckaroos, so I snagged myself one. I spent a whole hour yesterday playing with it, and it has some difficult exercises! I was sweating by the end. Looks like a good exercise to do before going on a long run to have some fun and warm up, it also weights you and keeps track of your progress, so it is perfect for me.

Of course it told me I am "Obese", no surprise there, and it did not hurt my feelings, because lets be honest, I have to accept the fact that I am overweight and that I need to loose some weight in order to be healthy, the whole "fitting into smaller clothes, yadda yadda" just comes as an extra reward. Being able to do a 5K in 30 minutes or less, now THAT's a reward! :yay:

It was silly that it called my DH "overweight" though, since he is all muscle and just about 10lbs from what would be an "ideal" super fit weight, (as evaluated by our doctor), so I didn't sweat it too much.

I had too much fun with my new toy, so it ended up being too late for going for my 5K, and today my favorite pool is closed due to a swim meet, I also have a b-day party to go to after we go to the mall and get DH fitted for a tux for his brother's wedding, and we need to clean the house so I can do some work on my portfolio... because... I am getting a job interview in Halloween!!! Woot!

Also... my trip down to Disney World is less than a week away now and the house has to be spotless so we can relax when we get back and my cat sitter won't be scared :scared1: :rotfl:

I think I will fit in there a small work out on the elliptical at the gym downstairs of my apt complex, or maybe some wii fit.

 :laundy: :scared: OK maybe that's a lot of stuff for one day, but I have energy to spare and I am pumped, so I can do it!!! Wish me luck though :rotfl2:

We also have the Wii fit. I don't use it much since I don't like to exercise indoors. That is why MI winters kill me. I like to be outside even when the temp dips but when the wind chill is 32 below, it's not possible no matter how much you bundle up. The air is sucked out of your lungs!

I so understand what you mean!
Until I started going to the pool again and training outside for my 5K I really had sworn off outdoor exercising, but now I crave it.
I am indeed extremely lucky to live in FL, we can go outside even when it is REALLY chilly.

I mostly plan to use the wii fit as a tracking help for my weight and balance, I have really bad balance and I am always falling over, so this should help.

I accomplish around half of my list. We got DH fitted for his tux, we bought some presentation boards for my portfolio, we found gifts for the birthday girl, but theeen we found a phone on sale for the house (ours hates our wifi), then I found a CD and DVD set for teaching myself Japanese at a killer price... (I so have been wanting to learn a third language!) :rotfl:

So of course we came back home and in between plugging the new phones and messing around with the Japanese course it was already time to go to the b-day party... which we just left a bit ago, I had a couple of drinks, some cheese, and an onion soup, so I am stuffed and tired. Just had enough energy to shower and check my mail.

It is all ok though, I need to clean the house tomorrow and fit a walk in there won't be so difficult.:laundy:

Wow ChocoKat you sure are busy. I hear you on trying to get all those things done that are planned in your head. I'm still trying to make sure I fit in those 5K fast walks each day along with everything else. The weather here is getting a bit chilly so I need to really work at getting outside too. My daughters have treadmills at home so once the weather gets too cold I think I will be visiting them more often for my walking. I figure they won't mind since they really are my inspiration anyway.
Good luck to you with all your endeavors.

welcome Gretchen!!! Great to have ya!!

It sounds like everyone is doing good!!

Keep moving everyone! I'll be back out there Tuesday night!

You can do it Gretchen!

Nikki, I am glad you are getting your allergies looked on. There is nothing more scary than being outside in the middle of a long run on your own and not being able to breathe! I can't even image :scared1:

I am nearly done with the cleaning of my work area in the home office.
What can I say, I had so much stuff between paper samples, printing samples, doodles, photos, toys, paint brushes, pens and pencils or every single kind known to man :scared: you could not see the desk anymore.

I am gonna go to the sea of decay that is the corner behind my desk, I swear I haven't even gone by there in a year and a half. Wish me luck, send in the search party if you haven't heard from me in 2 days :rotfl:

Hello ladies!
I went for yet another successful 5K yesterday with my friend's doggy. He really is a great trainer!

Afterward I did a whole yoga and stepping round on the wiifit to stretch out my muscles. The scale on the game claims I gained one pound :lmao: so I'll chalk it up to bloating due to PMS mixed in with muscles.

Really, my abs are still sore (in a good way) after Sunday's jacknife exercises. Today I'll be doing a lot of wiifitting since it has gotten quite chilly and I am getting this weird cough. I don't wanna go to the pool and risk catching a full blown cold right before my disney trip.

Just 2 and a half more work days and I'm there!!!:cool1:

Thank you all for the encouraging words. It really helps. I'm still plugging away and making some progress. Now that the cold weather is here it takes a bit more push to get me out but once I'm there I get pumped up to beat my previous times.
Wishes to all,

ChocoKat

Ack!
Well, remember that weird cough?
It got worse on Tuesday, so I left work an hour early to go home and lay down. Stayed home yesterday drinking tea like nobody's business and loads of soup all day long. I am feeling better today and putting in my half day at the office right now :surfweb: but still a bit under the weather and drinking tea.

I have my cold meds on my lugagge and I am feeling way better than Tuesday afternoon and most of Wednesday, but I am all paranoid that I'll get sicker while at WDW. Today I am getting in to the hotel at around 5, so I am going to my room, getting DH to grab me some stuff from the food court and relaxing and sleeping it off all of tonight so tomorrow I can run around.

Of course I haven't done any exercising since Monday :scared1: I guess that whole 5K in the night on the chilly weather pushed me over the edge. Ah well, live and learn. Send me some good vibes folks! I wanna be healthy!

Welcome, Gretchen!! Glad to have you here!

ChocoKat - Hope all goes well for you. Get better! Sending good vibes your way. :goodvibes

So... I'm back from Vegas. And, yeah, things didn't go so well with the running... I did run Wednesday night in my neighborhood. Did the full 25 minutes, no stopping, no walking, and felt pretty good about it afterward. Was very pleased with myself. So, Saturday morning I did 28 minutes running at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. A neat place to run and the weather was terrific. I ran probably about 2 miles total, with a good portion either uphill or downhill. That day and night, I had some pain in both my kneecaps, which made me hobble around. I figured it was just because I wasn't able to do my usual cold shower after the run, so my muscles didn't recover as well, plus the uphill/downhill probably didn't help. I decided that, instead of running Monday and Wednesday, I'd just run Tuesday and would use the treadmill at the Luxor gym (a lovely gym, by the way). So, I did 25 minutes on the treadmill and my left knee started to hurt a bit near the end of the run. It felt like much the same thing that my right knee had previously been doing. A little later that day, I got to the point where I could barely walk. Seriously, my Dad had to keep stopping, so I could catch up to him whenever we walked around the casino. After breakfast at the Wynn, we returned to Luxor and I left Dad in the casino, so I could go up to the room and ice my left knee. 3 hours up there, to no avail. By the time we had to leave for dinner and a show, I was in really bad shape. But, I muscled through it. That night, both knees were throbbing when I tried to get to sleep.

So, I'm still hobbling today, although it's a bit better. I need to make a doctor appointment to have him look at me again. Was a bummer, already being on the super-dose Ibuprofen that he previously gave me, because I couldn't take anything more for the pain Tuesday night.

Anyway, looks like sustained running is out of the picture for me. :sad2: I'm going to give myself two or three weeks, then try quick walking. I'll have to walk the Dana Point 5K on Thanksgiving morning. Then, I might see if I can go back to the run/walk (10 minute run/5 minute walk) and do the WDW 5K that way, to beat the pacing requirement. I'll then decide how to do the Surf City 5K. We'll see how it all goes.

Serious bummer, though. All this training, only to have something like this happen. But, it was serious enough pain that I don't want to tempt it to happen again. I even thought about asking my Dad to take me to the hospital Tuesday night, to be sure I hadn't broken anything, but the thought of sitting in an emergency room in Las Vegas was just too frightening! Plus, I didn't want to miss the show that night!

Oh, and to top it all off, I caught a cold in Vegas. Sure, just add insult to injury.

ChoCoKat- Disney is normally the perfect cure for my colds! One night in the world and its gone!! Have fun and I hope you feel better

Magix- I"m sorry that running isn't going so well for you. Hopefully you can slowly get back into it. Lots of people run marathons doing intervals. Hopefully you can find a good interval for you that doesn't increase your pain and still keeps a good pace! Keep us updated!!

I started back to working out Wed. I have been on my meds since tuesday now and shouldn't have any more asthma issues. I bring my rescue inhaler out with me just in case. My friend Mary, her dog and I did about 3 miles on a local trail wed night.

I'm off to IKEA tomorrow!!! I'm so excited! Have a good weekend everyone!

Nikki - Glad you've got your asthma under control and you're back to training.

I've got a doctor's appointment to have my legs checked Tuesday. They originally said they couldn't see me until November. When I said what the problem was, they said they'd "fit me in" on Tuesday. TUESDAY!! I asked to see a different doctor in the group, but they told me I couldn't. How lame is that? I'm so glad I just switched back to Kaiser for next year. I'd be seeing a doctor today, if I were with them, instead of Cigna. Oh well. I'll hobble 'til Tuesday or hit urgent care, if I can't stand it.
