After huffing and puffing for the last couple of years I am finally at the crossroad. I keep eating garbage and not exercising or start eating right and moving my keister. So I chose the latter.
I started exercising this year after seeing my pudgy DS becoming a lean muscle machine I figured if he could do it so could I. So I started going to the gym with him. At first I would go maybe once a week with him and do 10 minutes on the eliptical.
Fast forward to July. I now go at least 5 times a week and am logging 1 hour 20 minutes on the eliptical and swimming 3 times a week for my "Oprah" arms.
I feel better and my clothes are starting to sag on me. I still have to work on the garbage I eat, but I'm getting better.
So here is my pledge:
I will go to the gym and do at least 60 minutes of cardio at least 4 times a week.
I will cut out 1 piece of garbage from my diet weekly. Example: This week I will not eat chocolate (lets see how long I can do this). Next week it will be no chocolate and no chips. This will be an experiment (I saw someone on one of the news channels this morning who lost weight doing this) and I will write how this goes.
I don't know what I'll do when I go to DL in a couple of weeks. It might be a good test for me. I know I'll enjoy myself anyway with or without chocolate and chips.
I might give myself a cheat day every other week or so because I know the way I diet and I don't want to saboutage my eating plan by cutting all junk food out and then binging later.
I will write up a TR and include my eating when I get back.
I am hoping that by writing this for others to see I can hold myself accountable and for once be successful.
No starvation diets just healthy eating using moderation in all things and good vigorous exercise.
I CAN DO IT!

Congratulations on starting a journal! DL has a lot of healthy choices, and during my trips, I select one or two meals that I know I'm going to choose what I want and not worry about it. The other times I work on choosing healthy choices. DL has lots of fresh fruit stands as a great substitute to a sweet treat and you can always ask for substitutes when you order food.
Enjoy your trip and remember that you will also be walking a lot, and possibly in the heat so water intake will increase as well.
I look forward to hearing about the trip and your journey.

Thanks GoofyDiane, one thing I am looking forward to is a pineapple spear and a Dole Whip. If I can have those two I'll be fine. My mom and I will also be sharing most of our meals that'll help.

Had a pretty good day today. Lots of stress from the rain....it looked like a cloud parked itself over my neighborhood and POURED. I almost had to get the sand bags out again. Only 2 leaks.
I did not make it to the gym today as company was here late. I did go out and sweep rainwater away from the sides of the house for about 20 minutes and earlier today when the sun was out I got in the pool for about 30 minutes.
Foodwise I was a bit naughty. I ate a slice of lemon cake and a handful of lime flavor Tostitos when my friends were over but other than that I did good:banana:

My plans for today:
Can't swim because of the rain and its like 69 degrees.
Will go to the gym and do the elliptical for my usual 1 hour 20 min.
Have not had chocolate and am feeling ok about it, I'll probably have a small chunk on my cheat day.:cool1:
My cheat day will be on Saturday. I will allow myself 1 oz. of dark chocolate that day.
Almost forgot to post my starting weight. :scared:
July 9, 2008 wt. 186
I must mention that I have dropped about 15 lbs. since last Christmas, so I am very proud of myself for that!

That is the perfect plan!!!! So many people make it so complicated that they have no choice but to fail. Way to go. You are making a lifestyle change that WILL work.
Looking forward to reading about your progress.

Thanks disneyrunningnut:flower3:
I only did one hour of the elliptical today, but I feel good about it.
I have been craving chocolate like crazy, but I keep telling myself to wait until Saturday my cheat day. I am going to add another food to my list, so on Monday the 14th potato chips will be next. I am not completely removing it from my life that would drive me nuts, just not having these things everyday like usual.
I really need to work on my food plan because I'm just eating lots of junk. All the exercise I'm doing will be for nothing. So I think I'll start writing out a simple daily menu. This will give me an idea of how much I'm consuming.
So for tomorrow......
Friday, July 11, 2008
Breakfast: Mickey Mouse waffle w/ lite syrup, 2 slices of bacon, 8 oz. skim milk
Lunch: 6 inch Subway club sandwich on wheat, herbal tea, Sunchips
Dinner: Baked fish, noodles, mixed veggies, skim milk
A.M. Snack: fruit/almonds
P.M. Snack: yogurt
I'm starting off with plenty of food so my brain doesn't think I'm dieting because it will be over if that happens.

Been feeling tired lately when I get up to work on the elliptical. I still do my hour and a half, but it is hard to do.
I really need to work on what I eat. It's usually frozen, processed, or fast food and I feel like I'm harming my DS with what I serve. I know what to do, but it is so hard for me to cook. I must try harder to make healthy tasting meals for us. I've been getting indigestion (I know TMI, sorry) and feel slugish all day long. Ok, I'm going to the kitchen to look for a healthy snack before it gets later. :cheer2: Yes, I can do this.

Not happy with eating today. Boy when I said cheat day I really meant it. Weighed myself this morning and I went up a pound:confused3 Go figure. I've been working out almost everyday, but what I've been eating is bringing me down. I am going to go back to counting WW points. I have my old books from a few years ago and will start bright and early tomorrow morning. We did a lot of running around today so didn't make it to the gym.
Tomorrow is another day. It will be better.

OK, did much better this morning, unfortunately I did not get a wink of sleep last night, nothing! I am exhausted my eyelids are so heavy, but if I take a nap now I'll have more of the same tonight. So I will just go to bed early today. My tummy is feeling queasy so I will not work out today either.
Today at 6 a.m. I had a bowl of Kashi cereal with skim milk and a small banana. At 10 a.m. still hungry so I had 3 egg whites and 2 slices of wheat toast with Smart Balance spread. I have no idea what to make for lunch or dinner, so I'll post that later.

Had a better night last night and I feel much better. I keep waking up late though and I need to stop that so I'll go to bed even earlier today. My friend invited me to lunch so I had 3 crackers w/ peanut butter for breakfast. She made wine chicken, saffron rice, salad, and beans. I only had one serving  and banana bread only 1 slice. For dinner I made noodles w/ Italian sweet sausage, corn, and fresh squeezed limeade. For my afternoon snack I had bagel chips and a handful of almonds. I did my 1 1/2 on the elliptical too. Off to bed. Almost forgot since I did so great with my no chocolate except for Saturdays rule last week I will add chips to the list this week. This one wil be hard since I love chips! Chips will include: potato chips, tortilla chips, Cheetos, Fritos, Doritos, ALL chips! Oops, I had bagel chips, oh well tomorrow I'll remember.

Got up earlier today than most days...9:00 a.m. Had breakfast: 2 egg whites, 2 slices of bacon (love my bacon), 2 slices of wheat toast with Smart Balance spread, and lemonade. I am feeling a little overwhelmed because my house has not sold yet. It has to sell by Sept. or I lose the other one. The one I already put $7000 worth of improvements. If I stay where I am, I will have to cut down on EVERYTHING! Boy, that will be so hard to do.

Ok, so this morning at 12:01 a.m. I took my DS to the midnight showing of The Dark Knight, which by the way was great! So, he buys the large bag of popcorn and I helped him eat about 1/3 of the bag with a little container of melted cheese:eek: I know I shouldn't have but I did and its ok. I have had 4 hours of sleep and it feels like a repeat of last week when I got zero hours of sleep one night. I'll try to keep on track today.
Breakfast: 2 egg whites, 1 flour tortilla, 1 c. Silk
a.m. snack: a cup of the sweetest canteloupe I've ever tasted

Ok, I can't remember what I had for lunch and dinner yesterday and I didn't go work out. My DS's friend was over and we kinda took it easy. Today is my free day and boy have I been bad :rolleyes1
Breakfast: Blueberry pancakes (DS's buddy loves these so I made them for the boys), 3 slices of bacon (Yup I have to do something about this, I notice a pattern and I don't like it), 1 c. skim milk
Lunch: bolony sandwich, cheetos (today is my cheat day so I can have chips), Crystal Light lemonade
Dinner: Rudy's brisket sandwich, 1/4 sausage, lemonade
Snack: 1 large cookie, skim milk,
Snack: almonds
As I write this I notice that I eat garbage. I will not lose any weight eating this way. I need to cut down on the bacon so as of today I will only allow myself to eat bacon on my cheat day.
I've been doing good on not eating chips and chocolate during the week only on cheat Saturday, so I'll add bacon and cookies to the list.
So on the cheat list so far are:
chips, chocolate, bacon, and cookies.
I also notice that I'm not getting enough fruits and vegetables in my diet so I will start to add more fruits and veggies to my daily eating plans.
Weigh in for today: 185
I did not go down or up, oh well.

Goof you are doing great with the exercise - keep it up! Food seems to be my downfall as well and I have learned a few tricks at the grocery store from WW over the years. Unless I need something specific down an aisle, I don't go down them, I just shop the outside path of the store where all the produce, meat and dairy is. I stay away from frozen foods and try and buy everything fresh. It took a long time to make this transition, but I love it now. I found out that I love almost all fresh fruits and vegetables and I bought a steamer so I can steam my food instead of microwaving it.
As you work to eliminate the bad foods, use the time to try new foods.
Keep going you are doing great!

I'm baaaack from our trip to DL. What a great time we had. We must have walked miles everyday. I weighed myself on Sat. morning and found that I am still at 185.
I caught a cold at DL and am recovering right now. It's a pretty bad one, I'm so congested and feel lousy. So I will start back at the gym tomorrow but will take it real easy.
I'll start posting what I eat tomorrow too.
While at DL I really didn't overeat like I thought I was going to. I did have 2 churros on different days, 1 small popcorn (DL has the best popcorn you know).
I had the Monte Cristo yummy and pommes frites omg they are delish.
Tried the chicken fusilli at RRPP it really is good I shared it w/ my mom.
Had a chili dog at Award Weiners and got the apples instead of the chips good choice they hit the spot.
I noticed that I would end each night by stopping at the bakery on Main Street and getting a Mickey cookie which I would eat in bed with a glass of milk. Boy do I miss those cookie they were so good.
We tried Bubba Gumps one day for lunch and had the shrimpers heaven, I shared this with DS.
Of course we went to In and Out. I tried dunking the fries into the shake like I've heard but it really wasn't that great. I know I ate a lot more but I can't remember exactly everything I had. If I remember I'll edit it later.
