**** Since this has turned into the pre-trip report for TWO trips, I'll edit this post to reflect both of them.****

OK, I'm new to this whole Pre-Trip Report thing, so bear with me (although on my home planet, the Weddings & Honeymoons Board, we have wedding planning journals, which are prolly pretty similar...)

My first foray into trip reports was the story of our Epcot wedding and WDW honeymoon (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1828783), and the friendly people who followed along encouraged me to start a pre-trip report about our follow-up trip this September. So here goes nuthin'! :cutie:

February 2009 Anniversary Trip

Pre-trip report starts on Page 20 (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1878740&page=20)

* Who is in your party? Me and my DH, Mr. Lurkyloo

* Your travel dates: January 28-February 7, 2009

* Where are you staying: Wilderness Lodge + Beach Club Villas

* What Advanced Dining Reservations you have made: Artist Point, Jiko, Liberty Tree Tavern, California Grill, Restaurant Marrakesh, Brown Derby, Chefs de France, Le Cellier, Narcoossee's, Flying Fish, Yachtsman Steakhouse

* Any special plans, events, etc. that you have planned: Our anniversary! The actual day, Feb. 4, is a complete surprise for DH, chock full o' fun!

September 2008 Free Dining Trip

Trip report here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1975243

* Who is in your party? Me and my DH of 7 months, Mr. Lurkyloo

* Your travel dates: Sept. 20-27, 2008

* Where are you staying: Pop Century + Polynesian

* What Advanced Dining Reservations you have made: Le Cellier, Coral Reef, Boma, Tony's Town Square, Whispering Canyon, Ohana

* Any special plans, events, etc. that you have planned: Free dining, baby! Plus, we're going to make our first-ever visit the Food & Wine Festival on its first day (eep!). Touring tips greatly appreciated...

So the reason we get to go back to WDW just 7 months after our wedding there is that when we went to WDW for our wedding planning session in September '07, there was a bounceback flyer in our room at Pop Century for the free Disney Dining Plan promotion. Knowing that we'd have free Annual Passes already (thanks to Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings), we figured that a return trip would practically be free... except for hotel... and airfare... and maybe rental car... :rotfl:

Also, having this trip already planned was a HUGE help when it came to post-honeymoon letdown. On our last day at WDW I started to get sad, but knowing I'd be coming back soon made me feel a lot better.

We ate our way around the World in February, hitting every Signature Restaurant I'd ever wanted to eat at. I figured that this time around, since the food is free, we should try a bunch of places I'd never pay to eat - namely buffets. I admit it - I am a table-service restaurant snob. :snooty: Le Cellier and Coral Reef are the only 1 TS credit restaurants on my personal list of good WDW restaurants, so we filled in the rest with places that everyone raves about but we'd never been interested in.

We also lucked into an overlap between the end of our trip and the start of the International Food & Wine Festival at Epcot, which I've always wanted to try. Unfortunately we have to go on its very first day, and I'm worried that it will be a mob scene.

If anyone has any touring tips for F&W, let me know. Does a line form for the World Showcase during the 2 hours that only Future World is open? We're pretty much only interested in trying all the food they sell (with our stored-up snack credits!), not any of the special events.

Also, feel free to give me pointers on what all I should include in my pre-trip report. Packing lists? The trials and tribulations of buying airfare? Regular posts along the lines of "EEEEEEE! Only X More Days To Go! " perhaps?

:)

Hi there! I posted a couple times on your wedding/honeymoon TR and I'm so glad you decided to do a pre-TR for this trip!

How many nights are you staying at pop and poly respectively?

I love the food and wine fest! If you are only going for one day, my tips would be the following:

1. Eat lightly that day if you plan on partaking in a lot of the food and drink kiosks
2. lines can build at the more popular stands but if you start early enough in the day (i.e. when WS opens) you should be ok
3. Even though it is only the first day, try to narrow down what you want to try so you don't get too full to eat something you had been wanting to try later on in the day
4. You can also check out the menus from previous years as they often offer the same or similar items in some of the countries....just to get an idea of some kiosks you want to hit
5. When I go, whoever I am with and I will typically get one of each thing form a country (if there are 2 things we like) and share it...this way we get to try a little bit of everything. If you really like something, you can always go back and buy a second plate.

Those are all I can think of off the top of my head, but if I think of more I'dd be sure to post them.

I'm here from your great wedding report. Anything you write about will be great reading! Include pictures. I'm excited about your report. We have been to the POP many times, and we are going to the POLY the last week of August. Dining plan, but not free this year. We've never stayed deluxe....value and moderate only. I think we're in for a great trip! We booked as part of bounceback from our March trip. Totally know what you mean about the letdown part.......having the next trip in the works completely helps. I think you can see in my sig, we're going to POFW in Feb. '09. The AP's come with a brain washing of sorts......LOL......

Can't wait to hear details........

Yes! I'm so excited! You got your trip report started. :woohoo:

I went at the end of free dining/beginning of food & wine last year. If I remember correctly, they actually have the stands up the night before their scheduled start for a cast member preview, but you can use them too and the lines are much shorter. I used most of my snack credits at F&W and had a great time. I didn't make it for the free wine tasting, but I made it for the free beer tasting and had a blast.

Can't wait to read more!

And HOW - we'll be back in Feb 09 too! I wanted to spend our anniversary back at the Beach Club... What are your dates?

How many nights are you staying at pop and poly respectively?

We are staying at Pop the first 5 nights and Poly the last. We added that night while we were on our honeymoon - they had yet another bounceback offer in our room at GF. I can see how this is going to turn into an annual (or semiannual!) trip... :lmao:

Also, thanks for the F&W tips! I'm going to be uber prepared.

Yay! I'm first!! I'm so glad your going again. And I get to read all about it.

Yes - I was the nerd phoning Disney Dining exactly 180 days beforehand to book such hot ADRs as Tony's Town Square (I'm sure they were like, "Geez, lady, you could call the day before and Tony's would have availability..."). But maybe I'd better check on them again now that we're getting close.

I must say I was at Epcot for the F&W festival back in 04. I do remember it being crowded....but - I went with three couples and we were too busy drinking around the world to care... :rotfl2 (I promise we were not the sloppy you irritate me drinkers...) just having a good time.

Better to be safe than sorry. I'm a nerd too!

We just ate at Tony's for the first time during our trip two weeks ago; was ok - basic Italian food.

Hee hee! I will be prepared for crowds. We'll be the only two people lining up to get into World Showcase at 9am, menu print-outs in hand....

Hooray for nerd-dom! Tony's is one of those places I'd never pay to eat - it sounds like the food quality is middling, at best, and I'm not a huge fan of red-sauce Italian. But we wanted to check out the decor (and have a character-free 1 credit TS meal inside the MK!).

OK, I just did something for our trip, so I came running back here to tell you all about it. Get ready.... I confirmed our ADRs! :hyper:

Becx got me thinking about checking on them, but when I opened my little PassPorter Sidekick ADR Worksheet, there were no times or confirmation numbers - only dates and restaurant names...

So I phoned up and got all the info I needed to plug into my worksheet. I'll list them here in case you care!

Sun 21 - Coral Reef - 5:30

Mon 22 - Le Cellier - 4:10 (yes, I called at 180+10 days out and this was the only time I could get before 8pm! No wonder DVC members are up in arms over the new, similar DVC reservation policy!)

Tues 23 - Tony's Town Square - 7:00

Wed 24 - Whispering Canyon - 5:30 (Are you noticing a trend here? We like to eat early to avoid crowds and get seated quickly)

Thur 25 - Boma - 5:05

Fri 26 - Ohana - 7:40 (We pushed this one later so we could catch Big Bad Voodoo Daddy beforehand at Epcot's Eat to the Beat concert series and still catch the MNSSHP fireworks on the Poly beach after!)

We'll see... maybe trying these all-you-can-eat restaurants will make me a convert, but mostly I'm just curious to see why those places are all so popular!

We'll also prolly add an ADR at Raglan Road for the night we get in once we've bitten the bullet and bought airline tickets. And of course there will be multiple trips to Ghirardelli sprinkled in ... Ooh! Now I'm getting excited again! :rotfl:

Hello! Signing on, love a good PTR!

We tried Boma in March for the first time, it was fantastic. As good as you read about. So many choices, so many unique tastes, yet many normal things too. I loved the different spices in things though. The Watermelon Rind salad had a great flavor and the Mulligatawny, well that was my favorite. I found the recipe here on the DIS and have made it at home. SOOOOOO good. I hope you enjoy it!

Hee I got hubbie to do all that, when we tried to get and ADR at Le Cellier about 1 week into our trip the CM said they were fully booked, DH goes 'Blimey' and the CM couldn't stop laughing! She said she usually hears 'holy cow' or 'woah' but never Blimey! And he doesn't even have a cockney accent :rotfl:
We had a second coice of days to do Le Cellier (I love going on a 2 week trip!) and we got that one calling exactly 180 days out, cheesey soup here we come:thumbsup2

Yeah, this 180+10 thing is a killer because then all the people whose trips start before yours can book up to 10 days ahead. But even with that, I can't believe THAT many people booked Le Cellier. I prolly shoulda called back at 180 exactly to see if they'd released more times.... Oh, and we ate at Raglan Road on our first night in Feb and really enjoyed it. Mmm... scallop forest....

Hi there!

I ate at Raglan Road on Thursday night for the first time and loved it. I tried to make our ADR to coincide with the live band because I thought it started at 8. Turns out it starts at 9 so we missed it. I had a beer flight and my mom and I split the dalkey duo. For our entrees, my mom had the beef stew (she loved it) and I had the bangers and mash (:thumbsup2 but I would get something different next time). I highly recommend it if you're hanging out in DD!

OK, everyone - I need some recommendations on good walking sandals for WDW.

I have narrow feet, so Crocs are out. I really really wanted to wear Keen sandals, but they're too short in my size, and if I go up a size I'm swimming in them.

I want something cool and breathable with good ankle and arch support - is that too much to ask? :rotfl:

Hey Lurkyloo! I wanted to ask if you are going to the MNSSHP on the 23rd? You have ADRs at Tony's and I'm not sure if you know there will be a Halloween party that night. Just a heads up!
I will be at WDW almost the same dates, I'm 22-28th. I could only get a 4:45 Lecellier at 180 days out as well but whatever, I can eat a BIG dessert later and not feel too guilty!

I've been to the F&WF before and don't remember lines and horrific crowds but I did do a bit more wine than food tasting so it just may be I didn't actually see all the people around me!

We hadn't planned to go to MNSSHP but figured if we got the last reservation at Tony's that night for regular park guests, we could extend our time in the MK by that little bit before we get booted...maybe peep at the festivities as we get hustled out (again! I am a flip-flop and tennis shoe girl. I found the most comfortable flip-flops at JcPenny. They came in purple, pink, and some other bright colors. And they had metallic designs on them. They are so comfortable. I think they are made by Arizona.

I love TEVAS. Have you checked out the Budget board here on the DIS? I have seen several postings with savings codes or sale alerts on higher end sandals. I have become addicted to the Budget Board! I used a 30% off code I found on there to save $84 on a Kohl's order this weekend!!!

Not sure about the airfare. I'm in Va so I'm not flying as far. have you tried priceline or expedia??

Yeah, so far, no dice. Last year we didn't book our Sept trip til the last minute, so when I went to buy airfare at 4 weeks out, there were all these screamin' deals. This year I don't know whether I should risk waiting that long to buy tix, since it sounds like those kinds of deals are a thing of the past and airfare may only go up...

It's all coming together :goodvibes

Those prices for flights seem extortionate :scared1: Although I did hear that gas prices could fall by around 8% as the US have found they had more than they thought:rotfl: That could be 8% over here though as the government slap huge duty tax on 'petrol' as we call it:thumbsup2

Hope you find some shoes to wear, I'm no help I'm afraid as I tend to wear crocs and sneakers (we call them trainers ;) - maybe I should start a thread on translating English to American :confused3 :lmao:

I think I'm gonna start a pre-trippie soon, although it will be a post pre-trippie as we've pretty much got everything sorted  I'm watching our DVC countdown widget (on the desk top) everyday, those days and hours soon go :goodvibes

I've always wondered if Americans generally know 'our' words? I guess with some UK TV shows getting shown more you can pick things up.
I hope you enjoyed your time in London ;) Did you get to see any more of the country? That does sound like a cool job, no wonder you have such a way with words!

I *loved* London! After spending my formative years Hoovering up Jane Austen books (and a bazillion crappy ripoffs) I was totally ga-ga for the UK and wanted to live there. So when I got a chance to in college, it was like I'd died and gone to heaven!

I also got to see Surrey, York and Chester (I'm thinking some of those are towns and some are counties!) plus Cornwall and Scotland and Ireland. The things I miss most are 1) Cadbury Creme Eggs year round, and 2) Prawn Cocktail Crisps. Oh MAN do I love those! :lmao:

I don't know which is harder - finding good shoes or finding cheap flights! We are also leaving over a weekend and it is way more expensive than leaving middle of the week. Finally, I bit the bullet and just booked a flight. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you will find a good deal! :goodvibes

I'm so glad you enjoyed your time here :thumbsup2 despite the weather :rotfl: And it sounds like you got to see plenty of places (Surrey and Cornwall are counties, York and Chester are cities - although York is in Yorkshire which is a county!!!)
Have you tried the mini creme eggs? and they actually do bars now too popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn:: they are up there with my fave choccie bars (anything Cadburys really). If you PM me your addy I can send you some eggs and crisps (altough I wouldn't eat them together :scared: ). My fave flavour is roast chicken! Good thing - they have changed the fat they use to make them and also lowered the salt in the crisps, so you can feel less guilty now :thumbsup2

No I don't live near London, I'm in Northampton (half way between Birmingham and London) - it's famous for Dr Martens boots and shoes in general, but not much else :confused3
However when people ask where we're from the usual reply is 'about an hour North of London' as everyone seems to know roughly where that is :)

I'll prolly end up doing the same. :sad2: Whatever happened to Saturday flights being as cheap as mid-week flights? That's what I was betting on when I made our Pop ressies, but it seems like it's just as spendy as flying on Friday and Sunday....

If you're there on and EMH night for Epcot it's a really good chance to try loads of goodies, we had a night round the world (walking at first then crawling!). That video is HIGH-larious! It looks like that new candy bar is kinda like the blue Toblerone they had when I lived in the UK and was my *favorite* but I can't get over here.:sad1: It had fondant in the middle and was even shaped the same way.

Also, I never figured out Cockney rhyming slang (I mean, I get that it rhymes but are there universally known substitutions for real words or will any rhyming word communicate the same thing?)

OK, I will drag myself back on topic. ;)

Lately most of my planning has consisted of trying to obtain an iPhone. I've been waiting to get one since I first heard Apple was going to make them b/c I knew I didn't want the first-generation one. I used to have a T-Mobile Sidekick, which I got expressly for taking to Disneyland so I could surf the Web and bid on eBay auctions and stuff while I was there. But then they got all teenager-y and became really flimsy and cheaply made.

So... I can't wait to get an iPhone for WDW. Every time we're at Disneyland, I hear myself saying, "Oh, if I had an iPhone I could find that out/look that up/get those directions"... I don't think it would replace my PassPorter, but maybe I could leave the binder in the room more often.

BUT, as you prolly know, iPhones are sold out across the US for at least the next 2 weeks. And I'm hoping it doesn't last longer than that cuz I gotta learn how to use the thing before our trip!

Brother, can you spare an iPhone...? :rotfl:

Yeah all the 'rhymes' have a specific meaning - Apples and pears = stairs, dog and bone = telephone, trouble and strife = wife :lmao:
(BTW I'm no expert - that's about all I know :rotfl2: ) I've never really 'got' it, I mean most slang shortens or amalgamates words, this seems to take ages to say. You also IMO need the accent to go with it or you sound like a plonker!

OK, so yesterday I went to REI and tried on a bunch of shoes. I think I found the perfect WDW shoes! They are soooo comfy, but unfortunately, they are also sooooooo UGLY!

Teva Toachi
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Planning%20Journal/TevaToachi.jpg

However, I will get over it - they have a really cushiony footbed, and the straps are lined with this soft mesh so they don't rub against your feet. REI wanted $85+tax, so I came home and bought them on Shoebuy.com through Sunshine Rewards (http://www.***************.com/signup2.php?r=5299) and used a $25 off coupon.

However I did buy two pairs of Merrells at REI that looked nice enough to wear with skirts and are also way comfy. Since they were on sale, I got a black pair and a brown pair - I've always wanted to do that! (I have a friend who, when she finds a shoe she likes, buys it in every color!) These come in three or four other colors, though...

Merrell Pesaro
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Planning%20Journal/MerrellPesaro.jpg

And, while I was on Shoebuy.com, I decided to order a pair of MBT sandals to see how I liked them. I have two piars of MBT sneakers, and when I started wearing them, I really did see toning effects like the Bliss catalog touts. However, they are very heavy (they have metal in the soles) and very hot. So hopefully these are lighter and cooler...

MBT Staka - Now with levitation effect!
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Planning%20Journal/MBTStaka.jpg

Also today, I took $200 in Disney Gift Cards I earned on Sunshine Rewards and $163 in Disney Visa Rewards and paid down our Pop Century/Free Dining package. The reservation agent went ga-ga when she saw what a screamin' deal we got on 6 days at Pop plus free dining.

And then she told me something I didn't know and found VERY helpful: Our final payment is due before we get this month's Disney Visa Rewards Dollars credited to our account. But if we pay out of pocket, we can call back when the Rewards Dollars come in, apply them to our reservation, and get a refund on the money we paid out of pocket! COOL!

OK, how was THAT for an update? I feel a great sense of accomplishment today... :lmao:

You should! That is quite an update and accomplishment. I tried Sunshine Rewards briefly but it seemed like I didn't "qualify" for any surveys? :confused3 Maybe I have to try again. Because I'm all about earning the Disney Dollars. Any particular tips on Sunshine Rewards?

I like your shoes. It is important to be comfortable in the parks and those look like they will do the trick. Now all you have to do is pick your flights!

I was checking out the restaurant food pic thread the other day and saw one of your postings on it. The Grand Californian deserts looked amazing. Have you picked out which entrees you are going to order for your upcoming trip or will you wait until you are actually in the restaurant?

How many days until your trip?

The Sunshine Rewards surveys can be tricky. A lot of times you have to try 5 or 6 times before you find a survey that you actually qualify. However, they seem to have a lot more to choose from lately. When I first started they always ran out of surveys every day. Now I seem to be able to try and try until I get one that likes my demographic!

Also, the biggest way to earn money is through online shopping, I think. Luckily, they have agreements with a lot of sites that you can use when planning a WDW trip.

I think I'll wait til we get there - on the honeymoon, there were a lot of "must try" dishes. This time it'll be fun to see what I feel like when I sit down (though some of those must-try dishes may be making another appearance).

1 month, 3 weeks and 2 days until our trip!

OK, so I've been agonizing over buying our plane tickets b/c I can't tell if they'll go down the closer we get (which is what happened last September, when we scored $250 tix from LAX to MCO) or stay high/go up cuz of oil prices.

Have you guys heard of www.yapta.com? I've been using it to track three potential flights. If you know exact flights you want, Yapta monitors the prices and lets you know when they go down.

Since there are so few nonstop flights from LAX to MCO these days, we don't have many choices and it's easy to put the ones we'd like into Yapta to track.

Over the last few days the American Airlines flight has been inching downward, but it's still a few bucks above $400, so I'm just playing chicken to see if it'll go down further.

After you buy the flight, Yapta can help you get a refund if the price goes lower, supposedly, but the one time I tried this (and I even talked to a United Airlines rep who assured me we'd get a credit voucher), the refund never showed up. So I dunno....

***

The other thing I can't decide is which would be better for our Ride Both Haunted Mansions In One Day trick: My only choices are:

A) Flights that get in at 8:30pm or 9:00pm, giving us three hours to take a shuttle to our car at LAX, drive 45 minutes to Disneyland, drop our car at the Disneyland Hotel and hope the Monorail is still running to get us to the park before closing.

B) A flight that gets us into LAX at 3pm but requires us to leave WDW about an hour after the MK opens - which means a banzai morning of getting up at the Poly, running to Haunted Mansion, and then leaving WDW right away. I'd hoped to have a sleep in and a leisurely breakfast at Kona...

What do you guys think? :confused3

They've been out of stock, and there have been lines when they are in stock, and usually they're out of stock again by the time I get off work. So when I called this morning and heard the local Apple Store had them and the line was only 40 minutes, I took my lunch right then and raced over to the mall. HOORAY!

Finally, after years and years of waiting (I wanted an iPhone before Apple even invented them! :rotfl:)... the iPhone is mine. It's going to be soooooo useful on our trip. I'm gonna go see what kinda stuff PassPorter has for iPhone users - it would be cool if there was an iPhone version of the WDW guide!

I too was playing chicken with the airfare until the last few weeks when they went from $189 to $224 in one week.:scared1: I bit the bullet & finally booked last week at $234, they had cheaper flights at $220, but were arriving at 5:00pm & I didn't want to wait that long to have fun at WDW. So we are getting in a few hours later than I originally planned but I am grateful to get a daytime arrival time. The same flight is $275 this week, so I'm glad I booked when I did. As for you HM dilema: I say go with Option A. Bottom line is - you're at WDW for a vacation; while scoot out of there earlier to make your plan work as outlined in option B? It seems that there are alot of variables that would have to fall into place to make either plan work; I would choose the option that at least leaves me at my vacation for as long as possible.

If option A doesn't work, it gives you reason to plan ANOTHER WDW trip to try again!;)

That is a really good point - we go to Disneyland all the time. I would much rather spend more time at WDW then have to leave early to get to Disneyland for an extra half day. Hmmmm....I wonder if we could just grab a taxi from the airport back to the lot where we left our car? That could cut out 30-45 minutes of waiting for the free shuttle....

It's the first week of December. This is the second time the fares have dipped to $74 each way. That's the low, the middle is sitting at $124 and the regular price is $144, it's gone up a bit a few times, but the $144 seems pretty steady. Yey for the iphone :thumbsup2 Glad you got one, I think the availability here is bit low too. I don't know why all these must have gadgets are so hard to get hold of (esp. when you see people selling for twice the price on E-bay for example) we had loads of hassle trying to get a Wii just before Christmas last year, not to mention the remotes and nunchucks

I was very tempted to get the origional iphone when my contract ran out last year, I went with a Sony Ericsson as it had a better camera:upsidedow I hope my MP3 player dies soon (got it in 2004 when 20GB was the highest capacity!) as I want an itouch :rotfl2:

A little OT but I will be posting those crisps and choccie bars next week - the store I went to didn't have the Twisted bars :headache: but we have some coming on our grocery shop being delivered Sat.

Also, hope you get your flights sorted. I miss the days when you 'knew' the best time to buy and what price was reasonable :sad2:

And, good luck with the HM mission, I agree with others that you may as well enjoy your WDW time (esp. if the flights are expensive, get the most out your time there).

Good luck with the flight! I'll be checking out Yapta next year for our flights!!

As for HM, i agree with option A. How far is it from LAX to DL?? How long will it take you to get from terminal, to car, to DL, versus just taking a taxi straight from LAX to DL? Is that an option to save a bit of time?

Isn't nuts how we have to wait in line to fork over hundreds of our dollars- if we can find the piece of electronics we crave!!! I do not like the mind game!

Having said that - yipee!! I found a Wii Fit last night!!!

That's a really good idea - I will check it out. The one thing that might be tricky is getting back home from Dland without a car. But maybe I could do a three-legged trip with a car service....

OK, this is not on topic for THIS trip report, but it is for the next one.

Theoretically our ADR ressie window for our anniversary trip in February opens Monday. But with all the changes at Disney Dining right now, I don't think I'm allowed to make ADRs til October 25th (when everybody and their brother will be calling to make ADRs between Jan and April 09 - joy.)

But I got my little reminder email about the 180-day mark for ADRs from Tour Guide Mike just now and it's making me antsy to make ADRs! I wonder what would happen if I called on Monday and tried to make ADRs... I guess the worst is they could say no.

More importantly, will I even know by Monday what we want to eat in February? :lmao:

Yeah, for our honeymoon I got up at 4am to make the first ressies. Then, a few weeks later, we moved our wedding date earlier by two weeks, so when I called to change our ADRs the window had been open for almost a month. However, I had no trouble getting anything we wanted - even dinner at CRT! - except a decent time at Le Cellier.... But then I've called at 7am 180 days+10 out for Le Cellier and never gotten a time after 5pm. :confused3

I didn't do it - I actually forgot to do it! Were you able to make your ADRs?

Oh, my 180 day out mark isn't until 8/18 - so I'll try then. Although there is a thread on the dining board that says the only ADRs you can make at 180 days out right now is for Chef Mickey's and CRT; all the others are 90 days. I'm still not believing it until I hear Disney Dining tell me themselve. I'm not taking any chances with my ADRs!

lurkyloo
08-04-2008, 03:26 PM
:sad2:

Well, I heard it from Disney Dining themselves... I phoned to try to make a Le Cellier reservation for Feb. 2 and was told exactly what we've all heard on the boards but Disney hasn't announced anywhere: No ADRs can be made for dates after January 25th, try back at the end of October.

When I pointed out that their phone lines would be jammed the day they opened it up in October, the agent laughed and said "Yeah, I think I'm gonna take that day off!" She also said that the latest and greatest info shows up on the message boards before they even know it.

So I guess I have a little more time to think about where I ... ahem, I mean we want to eat in February.... :cutie:

OK, so DH and I found some people on the boards to share an IllumiNations Cruise with during our trip. We got the last 2 slots available on their boat, and it's a real bargain if we all chip in.

However, someone just told me that there is a high rate of flakiness for shared IllumiNations Cruises and a good chance we will be stuck having to pay the bill for all the people who don't show.

Have you guys heard of this? We didn't make the ressie, so Disney doesn't have our CC info, but it would be sad if we got there and couldn't go cuz no one showed...

I finally bought our plane tickets, which means I can finally start making REAL plans!!! Like car rental and dinner on our first night and stuff....

The ticket prices dropped about $40 below the extremely hard-to-swallow$400 that they've been, so I figured I'd better go for it. Of course, now when I see them go to $300 or below in a few weeks, I'm gonna be like :headache:

I picked the flight that leaves MCO at 6:30pm, which means we can sleep in and have a leisurely breakfast at Kona or in our room at the Poly - hooray! Of course, that night we'll be bustin' our patooties trying to get to Disneyland when our plane lands at 9pm, but... it could happen! :cutie:

So... anybody have any input about the IllumiNations cruise flake phenomenon? Am I worrying for nothing?

ProudMommyof2
08-06-2008, 06:55 PM
I have heard about the cruise flaking. I would not worry if I were you though. The person that booked the cruise has to pay up front with a CC# when the cruise was booked. This risk is really all his/hers. What can be uncomfortable is if someone does flake and the others that show up wonder if they should kick in extra to cover the loss of the person that booked the cruise. I would totally go- it sounds awesome!!!

I just booked BCV for May with rented points- tell me I will love it!!!!

I looked into the Illuminations Cruise for our family's grand gathering in Nov. I agree with the pp - it's awkward for the person that actually books the cruise becaue their name is on the cc; but I think it's weird if you show up, and no on else does. I think the captain is out of the money. I also heard that the weather really affects if this is worth it or not; if the wind is blowing the wrong way, you could really be eating alot of smoke. I don't know what to tell you; because we couldn't fill the whole boat, we decided against it.

I just booked BCV for May with rented points- tell me I will love it!!!!

You will LOVE it! A short list of benefits: Walk to Epcot! Stormalong Bay!Walk/boat to the BoardWalk for dinner! Easy access to the No Way Jose sundae at Beaches and Cream! Boat to DHS! Potential view of MK fireworks! Hang out in the beautiful common areas, like the Solarium! Sigh... now I wish we were staying there on this trip... :cutie:

I also heard that the weather really affects if this is worth it or not; if the wind is blowing the wrong way, you could really be eating alot of smoke.

I think what we're gonna do for the Dash to Disneyland is get a private van. I found a recommendation on Yelp.com for Zippy Shuttle, who will send the driver in to meet you at the baggage claim and then whisk you out of the airport. OK, I booked our rental car - whew! Thanks to Mousesavers.com I got $25 off plus the Annual Passholder Discount (only 10%, but it helps!). I just wish Sunshine Rewards could add Alamo as a shopping site....

I paid off the rest of our Free Dining @ Pop package, but I will call when my latest Sunshine Rewards Disney gift card comes and apply that so I can get a refund on my credit card.

Then I tried to make an ADR for Raglan Road the night we get in, but it was booked. $@%#& Free Dining! I shoulda made one back in the day even though I didn't know when we'd arrive, but I foolishly thought Downtown Disney restaurants wouldn't be as hard to get as other WDW places. I forgot about Free Dining....

So now we have a ressie at Fulton's cuz it's the only other sit-down restaurant we're interested in at DD, but we had such a mediocre, overpriced meal there last September I'm not that thrilled. Maybe I'll check out the Dining Board and see if anyone gives up a Raglan Road ADR on that day. Or maybe we'll skip dinner and go straight to Ghirardelli! :teeth:

Also - has anybody seen TripIt.com (http://www.tripit.com)? You forward them your flight, car and hotel confirmation emails and they automaticaly compile them into an online trip itinerary for you! They don't do Disney hotels though, so I had to enter that by hand.

I love the idea of it, and my little itinerary, but then I realized it kinda duplicates what PassPorter does, without the Disney info. And I love my PassPorter... so, we'll see how it ultimately fits in with my trip....

Woo hoo! Yeah for booking flights!!

The illuminations cruise really sounds wonderful! I know the person who originally books the cruise has to pay upfront, but do you as a share-er have to pat the DIS person up front? I think that would lessen the chance of flakes! We really want to do it when we go next year!

Sorry about Raglan Road!! Hope something opens up for you!

So far the lady who booked it hasn't asked for any money, but I'd happily pay if it meant we were confirmed. :)

And guess what? I got Raglan Road!

I dunno why it became such a big deal to me, it's not like we're talking about CRT or LeCellier. :lmao: But I had my heart set on it, and some helpful people on the DIS Dining Board clued me in to the fact that RR can be reserved on Open Table.com!

So even though the WDW-DINE operators are not allowed to book any ADRs at RR that night (it's not that they're full - they just won't make them), I got one through OpenTable. Hooray!

ALSO: I added the RR ressie to my TripIt itinerary within seconds by forwarding my Open Table confirmation, and now I'm adding point-to-point maps for various parts of my trip: airport to Pop/airport to Downtown Disney, Pop to Poly, etc.

WOWZA, I'm really starting to like TripIt!

OK, because I am cracked on this plan to ride both Haunted Mansions in one day, I decided to book us private van transport from LAX to Disneyland. It's hard to bring myelf to pay for a trip we could make in our own car, but I know it will save us 45 minutes to an hour getting out of the airport and on the road to Disneyland, which closes 3 hours after we land and is 1 hour from the airport! Plus, we'll save $$ on parking the car at LAX while we're at WDW...

So.... one more plan made. Sorry I don't have much in the way of WDW plans to report. At some point I'll sit down with TourGuide Mike and figure out our park touring schedule.... :thumbsup2

OK I am all caught up! I am sorry we'll be missing you by a few weeks (only 20 days to go for me!). I've been checking out Tripit thanks to you, and am also excited that you were told you could have your credit card refunded for your hotel reservations and use your disney rewards instead. I have a ton of Disney rewards I've accumulated over the past 2 years and forgot to use them to pay off my hotel room :headache: Now there is hope!

We will be there the same night you're going to Tony's on the 23rd. I'm thinking of dressing up as Tinkerbell although I'm not sure the world is ready for a slightly overweight, 50 year old Tink.:rotfl2:

:rotfl: I say, if you want to dress like Tink, do it! And if I happen to see you, I promise not to post unauthorized pix of your outfit in my trip report. :cutie:

Lurky Loo...I really enjoyed your Wedding TR and am enjoying this pre-TR just as much. I will be in WDW the same time as you and also going to Le Cellier.....Sun 9/28 at 1:20! (That was the only reservation I could get.)

I hear ya... at least your ressie is during a time when people normally eat. I’m not sure what to do with our 4:10pm reservation.

I was looking at Disney Weddings today, just because, and they don't have Morocco listed as one of the locations to get married at. :confused3

That’s because that website is pretty much useless – most of the info is out-of-date, and they don’t list half the options available. You have to start talking to a wedding planner to find out what your options are, and even then, you get different stories from different planners.

We were told ours was the first ceremony in Morocco, but now they’re sending brides pix from our wedding as an example one of the available sites!

OK I am all caught up! I am sorry we'll be missing you by a few weeks (only 20 days to go for me!). Hooray! I’m so glad I’ve posted something useful. Just think of how many Kungalooshes you can buy with all the money you’ll get back! :drinking1

Oh shoot – even on OpenTable? What a drag... but Trail’s End sounds like it’s lots of fun, and maybe you’ll get to take a walk on the beach or check out the campfire and movies while you’re out at Ft. Wilderness!

Im kinda sad we wont be making it to Trails end this time around. Oh well, I'll just have to plan another trip!

I like to joke that Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings should sell shirts that say "I Got Married at Walt Disney World and All I Got Was This Lousy Husband!" Well last night, I worked up a few quicky designs (including a kinder, gentler version that says "...All I Got Was This Lousy Shirt!") and posted a store on Zazzle so I could buy a shirt to wear on our next trip.

However, less than 12 hours later, they got yanked by The Man for copyright issues... which I guess I coulda seen coming... But so far they have still let me order a couple of the shirts for personal use. We'll see if they cancel my order before it ships.

SO - should I wear them on our September Free Dining Trip when we're going to be stuffed with free desserts already (oh yes, and the ulterior motive is to call attention to being a a Disney bride so we can get free desserts - I prolly shoulda mentioned that :rotfl: ) or should I save them for our February Anniversary Trip?

They are so cool, I'm not sure if I'd get away with one of those :rotfl: So can you put anything on a shirt? Do you know if they ship internationally? During our Dec trip we're doing a photoshoot (at the Poly) and I was wondering what we should wear - not sure yet if we're doing dressy or casual :confused3

Nice one - Tim Curry goes from scary (in IT) to scary (in Rocky Horror Pitureshow) with worrying ease :rotfl: I have to say I don't find Stephen Kings books half as scary as movies or games :confused3 maybe it's my Imagination, I'll have to pop round to see Eric Idle :thumbsup2

Everyone should be made to wear matching shirts at Disney - I love it when families are matching (it's probably the Libra in me wanting balance and order)

Apparently you can’t put just anything on a shirt... see my next post... :(

But you can put a lot of things on a shirt! And Zazzle ships to 67 countries, including yours! It’s not too bad, either - $7.98 for a ladies’ shirt: http://www.zazzle.com/help/helpshipping.asp#intl

Are you doing a PhotoPass shoot? I hear it’s a great bargain if you’re gonna load the CD up with other pix from your trip. (However, I am also compelled to recommend doing a shoot with our wedding photographers instead – our engagement pix at the Poly (http://clients.rootography.com/carriepatrick/engagement/)were amazing!)

So while I was replying, I got an email saying my shirt order had been cancelled for copyright infringement. I'd thought that since the actual WDW logo uses two different fonts and mine used all one font, I could get away with it, but no dice.

However, there are a TON of unofficial Disney T-Shirts on Zazzle, so I'm thinking it's the Waltograph fonts I used that got me in trouble. Most of the other users' Disney stuff is in other fonts.

So I whipped up this shirt instead, but it just isn't as cool-looking... :sad2:

I absolutely love your shirts. If Zazzle won't let you do your shirt, you could try printing it on an iron-on and making your own shirt. There are a bunch of talented and creative DISers on the Creative DISigns board that would help you out http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=105. Good luck!

You know, I've been thinking of doing that. I have the file all set up in Photoshop - all I need is transfer paper (thanks for the link to the CB - I found directions there!).

But I don't like the color quality on our home printer. Can you get Kinko's to print on iron-on paper, or do they not allow it?

Not sure if Kinkos will print on Transfer paper or not.

Have you tried printing something yet? Our printer isn't the greatest either, but I thought our shirts came out great!! Espically on the Dark Transfer paper! Hey there, yeah we're gonna try the photopass shoot. As you say if you're gonna buy the CD anyway it's such a bargain!

I just had a look at your photos (surprised the server at work didn't block it, they block most cool things!) they are amazing :goodvibes Were some at WL too? Or am I imagining it?

I will defo keep them in mind for future (in fact if we go next year with friends we could split the cost ;) ) do they have set packages or will they do whatever you want? (like going to a couple of resorts) From your description in your wedding trippie they sound so friendly and familiar. I'm always a bit anxious about suggesting poses - are they good at coming up with things? I loved some of yours, they are so 'real' I love how you guys do silly faces :upsidedow

Anyway, gonna have a quick sneaky peak at Zazzle until my break ends.

I would also like to complain (sorry :offtopic: ) about the weather here today, we've had sun, rain, hail, thunder & lightning - it's flipping August

I'm gonna try it! I just ordered a bunch of T-shirts and tanks on sale from Vickies (a.k.a., Victoria's Secret :lmao: ), so as soon as I get the transfer paper I'll give it a shot.

However, in all my research about having shirts made professionally, I found a place that will use GLITTER ink :hyper: so now I'm kinda cracked on the idea of making shirts through them... :rotfl:

Yes! We picked Wilderness Lodge and the Poly b/c they have the most stand-out theming (to us). In fact, we started the pix on Sunrise Terrace where you got married! However, I wish we'd ended there instead - I find that the first 20-30 minutes of pictures we take never turn out that hot, maybe cuz we're still getting in the rhythm of things....

I believe the way the Roots' pricing works, they have a flat hourly fee and then they charge you for prints and/or the CD of images. We just bought the CD and printed pix ourselves, so it was fairly reasonable. I always recommend contacting the Roots and just talking to them about what you have in mind - they're really flexible and accommodating!

As for poses, we are big hams who don't need much coaching, but the Roots did occasionally suggest where to stand or where to look. Having seen their photos of a ton of other couples, I think I can say they definitely know how to draw their subjects out of their shells! Check out all the pix in their blog (if work doesn't block it): http://rootphotography.blogspot.com/

In today's Trip-Planning Minutae Update...

I wore my new Teva Toachis for the first time during our trip to San Diego this weekend, hoping to break them in.

Behold the Homeliness!
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Planning%20Journal/TevaToachi.jpg

I'm not sure about them, and I'm kinda obsessed by having the perfect footwear for WDW b/c I don't wanna be miserable walking around in bad shoes for a week.

I had to fasten them on REALLY tight to keep the back strap from rubbing and falling down my heel. As a result, they were kinda cutting into my ankles the whole day. I didn't get any blisters, but I kept thinking I shouldn't be feeling my ankle straps all day. I even unclasped the straps at lunch to give my feet a break.

This does not seem to be a good thing.

Whaddo I do? Keep wearing them til our trip to see if they can be broken in? Start my search for the comfiest walking sandal all over again? Give up and wear my comfy but hot Eccos every day? Usually I like to alternate my shoes on a trip, and my only other potential pair of shoes gave me a blister by the end of our last trip - eep! :scared:

Whaddya think? :confused3

I'm going to check out your Merrells - I really love the Merell slides I got a few weeks ago - maybe their sandals will work too.

As for Crocs - I tried to get Crocs, I really did! But they are all too wide for my feet and I step right out of them. :sad1: I got some of the Sassari platform slides for a beach wedding I'm going to this weekend cuz they were the only thing durable - and hose-off-able - enough, but I'm going to be clinging to DH for dear life so I don't fall out of them. :lmao:

OK, so, yesterday I got my packet from the WDW travel Co. with our vouchers and luggage tags! I've never booked a package vacation before, just room-only reservations, so this was a big surprise.

I had to laugh at all the low-value "perks" we get, though - 90 minutes on a SeaRaycer for the price of 60? We still have to pay almost $50, and 90 minutes is more time than we'd ever need. The free round of minigolf is only for one person, the $15 Planet Hollywood coupon would barely cover one person's entree, etc., etc.

Also yesterday, I got my "I got married at Epcot and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt" from Cafe Press! I forgot to take a picture, so I'll upload one later.

OK, so, I dunno if you guys have been following the gripping drama (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1879557&referrerid=93883)over on the Restaurants board regarding the news that Disney has begun outsourcing to Sara Lee the production of the small celebration cakes you can order at the podium of all the restaurants on property.

It used to be you could check in for your reservation at any Disney restaurant and order a previously frozen, non customizable 6-inch cake in chocolate/chocolate or vanilla/vanilla for $12.50. You can still do that, but now the cakes cost $21 and are made by Sara Lee. Some of us got all agitated about the simultaneous increase in price and (perceived) decrease in quality, although I remember reading that these cakes were never that good.

Anyway, today I found out that only some of these cakes are outsourced, and that restaurants at places with on-site bakeries will continue to offer the arguably better in-house cakes (are ya still with me, readers? Anyone still awake? :rotfl: ).

These bakeries, for future reference, are: Yacht & Beach Club, BoardWalk, Contemporary, Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios.

SO... because I am curious and I love cake, I'm thinking on our trip I should take one for the team and do a taste test of both cakes to determine whether there is any difference in quality. This is probably really dumb, considering we get free dessert with the Disney Dining Plan, but I am willing to sacrifice all for my fellow DISers....

Whaddya think? :rolleyes1

Wow what a person you are, going through all this for the sake of the Dis - it's a big sacrfice!

Disney seem to be raising prices all over the shop, even the Resort Photoshoot is going up, and maybe the Photopass CD. I think we'll need to re-mortgage sometime soon :scared1:

In other news, my Sunshine Rewards giftcard came, so I called up and applied it to my already-paid-off reservation and they credited my credit card with that amount.

Yeah for SR!! I'm up to $100+ so far :lmao: in 16 more months hopefully i can pay for something big!!!

As for the cakes....deep research is definately needed on the cake thread. ;) Man it gets very heated over there. What are your ADR's again, so we can determine which restaurant you need to get a cake at?

I know! What is up with the two ladies who’re always brawling over where Yacht/Beach Club cakes come from? :rotfl:

OK, these are the ADRs again:

Sun 21 - Coral Reef - 5:30

Mon 22 - Le Cellier - 4:10

Tues 23 - Tony's Town Square - 7:00

Wed 24 - Whispering Canyon - 5:30

Thur 25 - Boma - 5:05

Fri 26 - Ohana - 7:40

I’m thinking we’ll try to order the first cake at Coral Reef (which has the Epcot in-house bakery) so that we can foist the leftovers off on the children we’re sharing an IllumiNations Cruise with later that night.

Then we could order the second cake at Tony’s Town Square, since the MK doesn’t appear to have its own bakery and is no doubt using Sara Lee. If we get it and it tastes exactly like the one from Coral Reef, we’ll know it came from the Contemporary Bakery and we’ll still have time to try one at Boma, which definitely doesn’t have its own bakery.

We got a cake at Crystal Palace and it was wonderful, I would think that Tony's would get their cake from the same place. I'm assuming the Magic Kingdom Bakery?

That's what I'm thinking... but did you special order the cake or just ask for one of the non-customizable cakes when you got to the restaurant? Cuz I'm sure the special-order cakes are delicious!

I would think Boma has access to the same bakery that produces the Zebra cakes for AKL. :confused3

lurkyloo
08-21-2008, 01:37 PM
That's a good point - if AKL/AK have no bakery, where do those Zebra cakes come from? :confused3 Perhaps the fellow who posted the "official" list of resorts with bakeries left one out...

At any rate, I'm fairly certain the Magic Kingdom must use Sara Lee cakes for its frozen 6-inch "at-the-podium" cakes, so I will conduct my taste test at Tony's.

It's funny - this whole silly thing started because we thought they were replacing ALL 6-inch cakes with Sara Lees, but now I'm having trouble finding a place to get one! :rotfl:

Thanks to the Magic of the DIS (tm) I have been able to get a later reservation at Ohana on the day we're scheduled to eat there.

We originally picked 7pm, but then we found out Big Bad Voodoo Daddy would be playing the Eat to the Beat concert series that night. We wanted to go see them and bust out our swing moves (maybe... if they allow busting.... ). But I didn't think we'd make it back to the Poly in time for our 7pm ressie.

So..... I talked to another bride (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1828582)on the DIS, who is gonna be on her honeymoon while we're there and who had a 7:40pm ressie at Ohana the same night, and she graciously agreed to swap with me!

No - Disney has an exclusive deal with Zazzle, unfortunately.

And, truthfully, although Cafe Press has the good shirt colors and excellent customer service, I'm just not as impressed with their services. You can't really customize the designs as much as on Zazzle - the interface is very limited. The logo on my shirt when I put it on is actually too low, but it's as high as CP would let me position it, which is a drag.... but I had to use CP cuz Zazzle didn't like my Disney stuff.... :confused3

Lurkyloo, I just finished reading your entire Wedding/Honeymoon report in the last day and a half and loved it. Your pictures are amazing and there is just such an old Hollywood feel that you and your DH possess. I am eager to hear of your adventures on your upcoming trip. The Food & Wine Festival has become a favorite of mine. No real touring suggestions from me other than to be willing to try new things.

Also, I am a new iPhone lover myself. In fact I had a countdown on my fridge until July 11th. I only had to wait in line 2 hours at the Apple Store, but boy was it worth it!

Really?! :sad2: Are they no longer doing the $99 buy-it-in-advance deal for the Photopass shoot + CD? That was such a great deal!

Not too sure about the actual CD, but the photoshoot is doubling in price ($50 if you've pre ordered instead of $25) We pre ordered the CD yesterday just incase:confused3 They stopped doing it all for $99 a while ago (when the popularity was realised!) but I think it's still a good offer even at $50 - I know it's not professional but it's easy to book. I'm sure they will stop letting outside vendors shoot at resorts soon, then the price will prob be comparable.

Oh yeah, we had a nice surpirse yesterday, the choccies arrived :dance3:

DH has been rationing them ;) So far we're shared a PB cup and he had one of the Reeses bars (for brekkie :rotfl: )
Thanks so much for doing that :lmao: And also please pass on my thanks to your DH for going to Home Depot, now I know what they look like :worship:

I can imagine if they did those here I'd have all the walls plastered with them, oh I just thought I could do a whole rainbow of Mickey heads:love:
And I just love the postcard :cloud9: at first glance I thought it was the WL:rotfl2:

Just wondering did you try Marmite when you were here? If so what did you think?
They're just showing the DC Games here and they all shared food from around the world (they have international DC stars), didn't mention Marmite but the Aussie had had some (inferior) Veggiemite

Anyway, hope the cake plan goes ok, you'll be very popular on the cruise :thumbsup2

Oohhhh... I didn't know the sitting fee used to be only $25. Hmmm... I went to the Photopass site, and you can still buy the CD in advance for $99, but I didn't realize they also charged you $49 for the sitting fee on top of that - boo!

Glad you're enjoying the choccies! And good for you for rationing them - sadly, the ones I received are long gone.... :sad1:

I never had Marmite or Vegimite when I was in the UK - they didn't seem like something I'd like... shame on me!

Then again, you probably wouldn't want to eat any of our Cheez Whiz.... :rotfl:

With Marmite they say you either love it or hate it - I think it helps if you've been brought up on it - they even did a commercial with Padington bear, he was eating a marmite sarnie instead of a marmalade one, a pidgeon comes up and he offers it a bite but it screws up his face in disgust when it tastes it :rotfl: It's quite a salty brown spread, you don't want to have a thick layer tho as it is really strong :scared: Yummy on toast ;)

Cheezwhiz is (get ready for this) spreadable cheese that you squirt out of a pressurized can (kinda like you would whipped cream) :crazy2: I'm not sure which sounds worse on paper - that or your "salty brown spread" :rotfl:

OK, just when you thought this pre-trip report couldn't feature anymore yammering about shoes...

I tried out my new shoes this weekend! On Sunday we went to Disneyland and the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit at the Bowers Museum and the Walking With Dinosaurs live show, and I wore my Teva Toachis. They didn't bug me as much, though I'm still skeptical of their comfort on a long day of walking at WDW.

But, even better, I have become a Crocs convert! Well, only the Sassari kind....

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/crocs194104_99415_jb.jpg

I bought these to wear to a beach wedding on Saturday. They'd warned us we would be walking on the sand, and when we got down the 189,437 steps to the beach, they were suggesting people take off their shoes. I don't do barefoot, so I went slogging off in my super-cute Sassaris.

Afterward, back on pavement, I just washed my feet off under a hose - shoes and all - and went on my merry way, while everyone else spent the night emptying sand from their loafers. Brilliant!

I mean, who doesn't love shoes you can wash off with a hose while you're wearing them?! :rotfl:

Whoo-hoo! We've won another over to the croc-side! I know you said you had a narrow foot, but with all the new styles there's bound to be one for everyone!
Have you tried the Malindi yet? I had to buy a six even though in every other shoe I'm a seven. But they're dainty little ballet flats with a little slingback thingy.

I admire you. Mostly because of how many pairs of shoes you have acquired in the last month. As soon as we move into a bigger apartment, I'm going shoe shopping, and you can be my consult. My apartment is tiny and many of my poor shoes live in the trunk of my car.

I have tried the closed-back version of the Malindi (can't wear slingbacks cuz my heel is too narrow) and liked its look, but the shoes were so dang hot and didn't have that signature Crocs cushioning in the soles. Oh my goodness, the Great Shoe Dilemma of Aught-Eight is almost too much to bear! :rotfl2:

First I was gonna keep the Tevas. Then I was gonna return them and buy 2 pairs of Chacos. Then I tried on the Chacos and learned that they have one of the hardest soles in the biz and need thorough breaking in. So now I'm gonna keep the Tevas and get one pair of Chacos and hope I can alternate enough to keep my feet from getting torn up. :rotfl:

I suppose I might be a tiny bit obsessed by the shoes, but I know painful feet can ruin a Disney trip so I'm trying to avoid it!

In other sartorial news (all of which is to distract you guys from the fact that I STILL haven't drawn up our daily touring plans :lmao: ), I found a dress to wear for our photo shoot with the Roots which, naturally, lead me to purchase two potential pairs of cute-yet-comfy shoes to wear with it:

As of Saturday, August 30, 2008, you may now make dining reservations through February 22, 2009.

This means I need to start making my ADRs for our February anniversary trip, like, now! And I have NO idea what they should be 'cuz I thought the window wasn't going to open til Ocober! Eeeep!

We aren't doing the Dining Plan then though b/c we don't really eat at counter-service restaurants and the Deluxe Dining Plan is not a good deal when you have the Disney Dining Experience card. I can't wait to go back to all the restaurants we went on our honeymoon!

I wonder if I could make this the pre-trip report for both trips?

OK, on InkedUpMomma's advice, I've titled this post with the trip I'm referring to...

So last night when I found out I could book ADRs for our February anniversary trip, I freaked out and tried to plan our entire trip so I'd know which ones to make. The problem is, Tour Guide Mike hasn't come out with his advice for February yet, so I don't know which parks to do on which days AND we're thinking about adding 3 days to the front of the trip but haven't heard back from the woman we rent our DVC points from. So it's all in limbo.

I went ahead and made three different Le Cellier reservations (on three different days) - just because I could! :rotfl: Then I mentioned to the agent something about making my resort restaurant ressies later on and she was like "Well, those are booking up - I only have one 5:30 slot left at Artist Point on the day you mentioned!" so I freaked out and made that one too.

Argh!

I'm glad you like it! It is from this site I just discovered, Trashy Diva - they sell new stuff that looks vintage, which is fabulous because I can't find '40s and '50s vintage in shops anymore - it's all '70s and '80s...

http://www.trashydiva.com/site/indexNOW.html

Check it out!

Oh damn you and your Trashy Diva dresses!!!!! What a fantastic website. And the prices are more than reasonable. Your dress is truly exquisite but that halter dress is killer. I must make sure that I promptly forget that Trashy Diva exists.

And you're not kidding about the dearth of 40's & 50's vintage in shops. Even the vintage clothing shows don't come around these parts (NY) anymore. How's a girl supposed to find the perfect pair of spectator pumps? The ideal powder case?

About shoes- I got a pair of Keen Catalina's from reioutlet.com. The style is similar to the Chaco's and a bit too "hey, look at my feet!" for me but they are so comfortable that I ended up wearing them all summer whenever I didn't have to wear boots. Walk all day & not a blister to be found. You might want to check them out.

DUH! I've been wondering what those pink doohickeys are at the bottom of your siggie... and I just now clicked on them. :headache: I've been missing out!! What a fun report! You're so close to your trip!! Huzzah! :jumping1:

And now that I've joined the party, I thought I'd crash it with my token Google image that makes no sense, but makes me laugh. Hope it does the same for you!

That photo is hilarious! I just love angry baby photos. They just crack me up. Someone should put together an angry baby photo thread.

To bring this post back to the topic at hand, your trip - do you have a Nordstrom Rack near you? You were worrying about shoes recently, and I noticed that the Rack carries a lot of "performance footwear" like Keen's, Merrell and Privo. If you are still having a footwear dilemma it might be a place to check out.

I also wanted to shill for my trip report. :rolleyes1 Stop by if you want to read about two silly sisters in their thirties who took a very last minute vacation to Walt Disney World (http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1944437).

Yeah, and the last one of those shows I went to, everything was WAY overpriced.

Thank gawd for the Internets! If you can bring yourself to go back to Trashy Divas.com, their list of online retailers has a ton of "new vintage" sellers.

You're not going to believe this, but I found a pair of those at my local REI that were marked down to $12 ...and I still didn't buy them! I really really wanted to - I love the color and, hello, $12!! But they were just too wide for me. :sad1: When I handed them to the salesguy to put back, his eyes nearly popped out when he saw the price, and he spent the next 15 minutes wandering around showing them to all his fellow salesguys (until one of them said, "Dude, why don't YOU just buy them?!") :rotfl2:

Re: Nordstrom Rack - normally I avoid ours because they charge two whole dollars to park, and then if you don't find anything, you're like "Dang, I wasted two whole dollars on THAT?!" But I am really starting to get into performance footwear, so I will consider the money an investment in comfortable feet. :upsidedow

12$! Yet there is no saving the too wide sandal. Oh yeah, they're wide. Which makes it even more difficult for me to understand how I can find them so comfortable since I have these narrow, little chicken feet. I was wearing them everywhere, just waiting for the blisters or the heel pain to start but...nothin'.

he spent the next 15 minutes wandering around showing them to all his fellow salesguys (until one of them said, "Dude, why don't YOU just buy them?!") :rotfl2:
:lmao: Love it!

Since those demon Catalinas were so comfortable I also picked up a pair of Keen Newport H2s. I love these. They would be my best ever shoe except that the straps rub my right pinky toe which means that I have to keep that toe wrapped but aside from that the Newports are great for walking. Plus since the toes are covered it prevents sticks, gravel, dirt, etc from ending up inside of your shoe. And they're also water shoes so if they get rained on it's no big deal. Be warned, though Keen touts them as "fashionable" I don't know what fashion they're referring to. Boat-like, maybe? That ventilated clown shoe trend that all of the young kids are into these days? Who knows, but they're comfy (and come in an array of colors).

If the Newports are too hideous or don't work there's also the Venice with a different strap pattern but either flavor is pricey. But if they perform as advertised (and if my better half won't have to listen to me complain) it's money well spent.

I never thought that I'd find a time in my life when I would choose a shoe based on comfort rather than looks. I must finally be growing up (though I do wonder if they make an athletic stilletto?)

I tried those too, cuz I :lovestruc the turquoise and yellow ones! However, I think I just don't have the right feet for Keens (the same way I don't have the right hips - or lack thereof - for Banana Republic's pants) - my toes kept rubbing up against that darn toe guard. I love everything about Keens, but they don't love me....:sad1:

I'm mad at Tour Guide Mike.

You pay him all this money (OK, like $24) for his predictions of the best parks to go to on the best days so you can decide where you want to eat 180 days before you actually leave so you won't end up wandering from restaurant to restaurant being told they're full up when you actually get there.

However, it is well past 180 days before February (the actual 180 Day mark was Aug. 5) and he STILL hasn't published his charts of the least crowded parks. Meanwhile, ADRs are rapidly filling up as people figure out you can reserve now through Feb. 20 or whatever it is now..... :scared:

What's the point of paying for his service if it isn't provided in time for you to actually use it?

I don't see how tour guide mike is useful anyways to begin with (especially for 24.00!! ) But I would be really mad if I Paid for what he says he can do and then no posts.. write him an email.. a mean one!! wait wait no.. play nice, youll get better results!

Tour Guide Mike is good for if you want to avoid crowds and walk on all the rides. I think it might be harder to use his advice if you have kids and you let them set the day's pace... although he does have lots of good advice for touring with kids. I just know that the only reason it works so well for us is that we are maniac park commandos.

So.... this weekend I found out our DVC contact couldn't extend our February stay 3 days b/c all the places she tried (BWV, BCV and AKV) are sold out of studios Jan. 28-31. :sad1: I asked her to put us on the waitlist, but I feel bad because it means she'll have to keep checking to see if it has come through.

Then I thought to ask her to check if the Villas at Wilderness Lodge have availability at that time (apparently forgetting all about that part where I felt bad about bugging her to keep checking things for me! :upsidedow). Not our first choice, but we have been wanting to stay there. So fingers crossed that she has time to check and those come through.

In the meantime - not knowing which days we'd be doing which parks, or whether our trip would be 7 days or 10 days - I closed my eyes and pointed and made some ADRs. I won't bore you with them now, since they'll prolly all change.... What I really need to do is get together our touring plans for our trip in 12 Days!!! so you have something to read about! :lmao:

Sorry, but the only lime green that I rock is my Fiestaware. I guess since I'm always the one taking the pictures I never manage to get into any of them (which could be a good thing). OK, so....

1) The Chacos arrived and are so stiff, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be able to break them in before our trip.

2) The Crocs Primas I ordered to go with my cute photo shoot dress arrived and the Ruby was a washed-out maroony brick color, while the Peacock was perfect but fit short and tight (even on my narrow feet :confused3 ). I ordered one size up - we'll see....

3) I now have exactly one pair of broken-in shoes to wear on the trip, and it's not a sandal - boo!

4) The cute photoshoot dress arrived and is too big in the top (no comments from the peanut gallery!), so I took it in for alterations... don't ask how much that added to the cost of the dress....

5) This is THE MOST BORING pre-trip update ever posted on the DIS. Ever.

Touring Plans! We got ya touring plans here! ... And man, are we gonna be busy...

Saturday:
Arrive in the early evening, grab the car and check into Pop.

Hit Raglan Road for dinner and meet up with Jenn for GHIRARDELLI SUNDAES! :cloud9:

Sunday:
Epcot maybe? Or maybe run into DHS for Midway Mania, TOT and RnR, then head to Epcot?

Dinner's at Coral Reef, follwed by an IllumiNations Cruise! :hyper: Oh, and we're gonna try the frozen 6-inch celebration cake, then share the leftovers with our shipmates.

Monday:
Oh wait - maybe THIS is the day we run into DHS and then do Epcot... Yeah, that sounds better.

We have an ungodly early dinner at Le Cellier (4:10pm) and then maybe we'll hit DD for our first and last visit to the Adventurer's Club together... :sad1:

Tuesday:
Magic Kingdom! Lunch at Columbia Harbor House, dinner at Tony's and peeking at MNSSHP as they hustle us out after dinner. Maybe we'll slink over to the Polynesian and watch the special fireworks at 9:30pm. Oh, and we're gonna try the Infamous Sara Lee 6-inch cake...

Wednesday:
Taking some pix with our wedding photographers! Except for a visit from my makeup artist at 6:30AM and dinner, the whole day is unplanned.

Dinner is Whispering Canyon. And maybe we'll be done in time to go back into MK to see Wishes from Main Street or the hub - we saw it three times on our honeymoon and never once from right in front of the castle! Once we were in the castle, once we were at CA Grill, and once we were in our room at Beach Club Villas!

Thursday:
Animal Kingdom - I scheduled a full day here, and we have dinner at Boma, but this will be the test of whether we can really find enough to do here for a whole day. I guess we could take a break at AKL in the middle of the day if we needed to.

There's also supposedly a preview of the Food and Wine festival today, but I'm not sure if it's feasible to go there and then back to AKL for our dinner at Boma, and I'm positive we won't be hungry *after* dinner for Food & Wine snacks...

Friday:
This day is jammy packed. We're going to Epcot for rope drop and then hit as many of the food booths as we can when World Showcase opens, using our stored up snack credits. At 5:15 we want to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at the Eat to the Beat concert, and then at 7:40 we have a ressie at Ohana... man, I'm getting a tummyache just reading that...

And, again, we'll try to catch the MNSSHP fireworks on the beach at the Poly, and at some point we'll have checked out of Pop and into the Poly.

Saturday:
One goal: Ride Haunted Mansion in the morning at MK, then ride it in the evening at Disneyland.

We'll either sleep in and get breakfast at Kona or (since it's prolly booked with free diners) go to the MK for our early ride. Leave WDW late afternon to catch our flight to LA.

Once we touch down at 9pm, it's a race to get to Disneyland before it closes at midnight. We have to pick up our bag, get our private car service, make the 60-minute commute, dump our bags with bell services at the Disneyland Hotel, and grab the monorail (if it's still running) from Downtown Disney to Tomorrowland, dash across the hub to New Orleans Square and ride Haunted Mansion Holiday!!! (Gee, does it count that we're not riding the same version of Haunted Mansion on each coast...?)

Sunday
It's not over yet! Check this out - our wedding photographers just happened to plan a trip to Disneyland for the day before we return to LA, so we're going to take MORE pix with them, this time in California! Which means I gotta get up at 5am for makeup again (because I'm that vain....:cutie: ). But then we get to play in the parks til about 4pm, when the private car comes back to take us home....

.... And it's STILL not over. Once we get home, we're going to drop our bags and (spoiler mode ahead cuz this is a surprise for DH) go downtown to the Staples Center to see Walking With Dinosaurs from the SEVENTH row!!! See, we went to see it in Anaheim last month, and we were in the nosebleed section and could hardly see anything. So when I found out they added an extra show to the last day in Los Angeles, and realized we'd be back in town then, I secretly hopped online the moment tickets went on sale so I could get really good seats this time! (and at not much more than we paid for the bad seats at the $&^#@ Honda Center). So this is a big surprise for DH, because dinosaurs are his third favorite thing on earth, after puppets and (I hope) me! :cutie:

Whew! :faint: Did you get all that?
