Can anyone advise me as to if this option available to Virgin Atlantic Ticket holders or just Virgin Holiday ones? If it is available how do you go about it and is there a charge?:upsidedow

Yes you can use it if booked with VA.
It is free to VH customers but VA customers pay $10 per person.(payable at the check-in desk at DTD)
Worth every cent.:goodvibes

Can confirm this. Last year booked via Thomas Cook (flying Virgin) and still used this

I have booked flight only direct with Virgin Atlantic and was also unsure of this. So can we just turn up at DTD the day we fly home or do we have to let them know in advance that we plan to do this, also what time is the check-in desk open at DTD?

You just turn up @ DTD on the morning you fly home you do not need to pre book.
I think it is between 8.30 and 1.00 pm.:goodvibes

Just a word of warning, people get there early and the queues get long with very minimal shade!!
Also last time we did it they were weighing every single suitcase and charging for people that had gone shopping crazy!

We also noticed how strict they were being with regards to the baggage weight. Of our 5 cases 3 were more than 5 kgs under, but because 1 of them was 2 kg over they made us juggle the contents around.
Luckily we weren't in a position to have to pay any excess but we did see others that were.

In April it was quiet the day we went -less than 20 mins wait at 9am - but it was a Wed, they said Friday was by far the busiest day.
For anyone who doesn't know - there are loos fairly near, just go round the back of the check in and a bit further on..
Everyone has to be there and waiting with little kids not long after breakfast - well, you know.....

Thanks for all the great advice. We will be flying home on a Firday (midway between the Easter holidays - good Firday actually) so we best be prepared to Q I feel. That said you need to Q at the airport so it sounds a better deal to get it over with first thing and then enjoy the rest of the last day - we arent flying out til near 9pm
