Don't order extras you don't want. In the parks, the counter-service menus often list only complete meals, such as a sandwich with fries or fruit, entree with corn on the cob, etc. A little known fact is that you can order anything you want a la carte! If you just want the sandwich, say so. Otherwise you may be paying up to $2 for that side item you don't want.
This information comes from mousesavers.com. I am REALLY glad to have this information since our next trip is with three picky grandkids.

I don't really care for french fries (I'll eat 3 or 4) and it really bothers me to throw them away. Now I'll just steal a couple from my daughter who never finishes hers either.

I've done this before, and it really does work! As mentioned, a lot of meals come with fries or a side item, so just order the sandwich (or salad, or whatever the meal is), and tell the CM you don't want the fries. It'll take $1-2 off the cost of the meal, so it makes the meal more reasonable.

Thanks for posting! :)

you can probably do this at the resort food courts as well. I know that at Mara (AKL) for breakfast you could get a side of eggs & a side of bacon instead of the meal. It saved a couple of dollars since I don't eat bread or potatoes.

To save money at the counter service restaurants we order one large drink with no ice. Actually we figured this out by mistake. My husband HATES their water and wouldn't drink any more of his drink after his ice started melting. The next time we ordered our drinks with no ice and realized one drink with no ice was plenty for both of us. The drinks are cold when they come out of the fountain anyway.
