View Full Version : Another Travelin' Song - Three Weeks in Orlando - MAJOR UPDATE IN FIRST POST!

Hey everyone! I'm so, so sorry that I've been MIA for so long. Thanks for all the responses and PMs asking if everything was OK, I really appreciate it :goodvibes I just wanted to give you all an update. As many of you have probably suspected, our trip's been canceled :sad2: You know how I said that going to all those shows was going to be the death of our trip? Well, it was. Since I last updated we've seen Hairspray, Altar Boyz, Legally Blonde, Xanadu and Break Out, and we're planning on getting tickets to see Spring Awakening and Rock of Ages in October, hopefully followed by Shrek, Avenue Q and Young Frankenstein in November, and then Billie Elliott in December. Then there's a lot of new shows opening next year (9 to 5, West Side Story, DIRTY DANCING!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:) and we really want to see those. I can't help it, I love Broadway! :lovestruc
So one afternoon we were all talking about the shows we'd love to see and it dawned on us that it just wouldn't be possible to see them all if we were going to Florida. The trip was going to cost us around $6000 which actually isn't too bad for three weeks but it wasn't something we could pull off right now. So we decided that we'd be better off going somewhere else, and then having extra money to see all the shows we've been planning on seeing. Our plans as of now are to head up to Boston/New England for 10-days and explore the area. It's a part of the country I've always wanted to visit so I'm excited to finally get the chance.
I'm so sorry for cutting the trip report short. I would have loved to continue it but I know we can't have non-Disney trip reports in the trip report thread. I really wish the Disboards had a general trip report section where we could post our plans and reports for misc. trips. That would be so much fun! I could always post my report in the Community Thread, but things have been vicious over there with all the political talk and a I know a lot of posters don't like the "blog" threads  If you guys are still interested in reading our trip plans and about our adventures in the city, I'll figure something out. Just let me know if you'd be interested! I loved talking and sharing with you guys, and would love to continue. So let me know!
I hope all is well with all of you :goodvibes

Hi! Leaving lurkdome (sort of like Leaving Las Vegas, but without the spins :p) to tell you how much I've enjoyed following the trip reports on your travel blog as well as this pre-trippie!
Your afternoon spying on SNL rehearsals looked like a blast. I think it's hilarious that Amy Poehler was a biatch, not because she was mean to you, but because she is sort of crazy in general.

Loved Sex and the City.
Hancock was good
Hulk was good
Iron Man was fantastic
Get Smart was ok.
Wall*E was fantastic.

I still have to see Wall*E! I can't even remember the last time I saw a Disney movie in the theater, I'll probably see it when it comes out on DVD. My brother saw the Hulk and loved it so I'll probably see that too eventually. I love Ed Norton! Sex and the City was just OK for me. The series was a million times better and a lot of the plot of the movie just seemed pointless. What exactly was the purpose of Jennifer Hudson's character? And Carrie was an idiot for marrying Big but that's just met... he screwed her over way too many times for her to run back to him and do the wedding his way in the end  OK enough analyzing SATC :lmao:
totally disagree. the point of the wedding is that they were meant to be together. after all that stuff on the show they still found there way to each other. I would have been mad if they did not get married.
I loved Jennifer in it, I wish she had a bigger role. Maybe in the sequel she will come back and have a bigger role. Love her new single I am a BIG Jennifer Hudson fan.

Thank you! Mike's home now and doing OK. He still doesn't feel great but he feels a whole lot better than he did this morning. He'll probably be sore and achy for a while but the doctor gave him antibiotics and painkillers so hopefully that'll help and the next two weeks won't be too bad. Thanks again
I remember talking about how we both have a ton of Disney movies that we never get to watch :lmao: What's your favorite Disney movie?
Are you serious?! You think I can pick just one? LOL! :rotfl: For classics, I like The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and The Lion King the most. I also like Lilo & Stitch, but I'm not sure if that's considered a classic or a new one. Non-Pixar anyway.

Thanks Scott, you too. Do you have anything planned for this weekend?
I saw Journey to the center of the earth in 3d. it was good.
saw Hellboy II today. it was ok. not enough action.
open house here so spent the day shopping.
I used to go to St. Augustine when I was a kid every year. I loved it. The fort, we went to where Ponce de Leon was and drank the water (tasted like mud).
I would google it and see what it has to offer. I did that for NYC and found out we have the Duck Tours here. I want to do them.
1. I hope Mike's feeling better. Because I'm glad to have you back on the boards, I'll resist making a smart aleck comment about your family's MLB team of choice.
2. Have you checked out the rewards section of the boards? They have a bunch of ways you can get extra Orlando money.
3. Wow, the vow renewal in St. Patrick's looks nice.
4. Glad to hear you liked Spring Awakening-I think I'm seeing it in August, I just need to buy my ticket. :goodvibes :goodvibes

Hey Courtney! I was just replying to Julie as you left a comment. Ahh, sorry about the gallbladder surgery. Was it bothering you or was it something more routine? Either way I'm glad it all went well in the end  Oreo says thank you! She's cute but a little beast  Your cat pictures are ADORABLE! :lovestruc Thanks again for reading. :goodvibes
I'd been having stomach pains since October of last year but it finally got so bad I went to the ER the end of April. Before they could take the gallbladder out, they had to stick this huge tube down my throat to move some stuff around. I was just glad I had taken that semester off or I would have been really stressed as that's when finals start.
Thank you about my kitties! I actually just got a new one on Sunday. She's a Tortoiseshell and she's eight weeks old. I named her Bella. :cat:
Oh, and thanks for the review about the hotel in Savannah. We're driving to Disney in January and stopping in Savannah for a couple days and after a bad hotel experience last time I've been trying to find something nice but affordable and that one looks great. I think it's the winner! :woohoo:

Oh man, that's six months of pain! :headache: Ahh, I'm the world's biggest hypochondriac so I feel for you. Thankfully you got it all taken care of... although I'm trying not to think about the tube  Did they put you out for that? Mike gets the stent taken out and his stone laser blasted next week and I asked him if he'll be put out and he didn't really care either way. I was like... if I needed anything done as soon as I walked in I'd be like "Knock me out! Don't even put me out, just knock me out ASAP; I don't wanna feel a thing!"
Bella's so cute! That's one of my cousin's names (a second cousin) and I love it. I always wish we would have named Oreo a real name... like Lucy or we even thought of Bella. It's so much cuter; what kind of name is Oreo?! :lmao:
And definiely check out the Baymont Inn and Suites in Savannah! Let me tell you, we had horror experience after horror experience driving to and from Orlando these past three years. In 2005 we stopped at a hotel in Florence, SC and the mattress was on the floor and all the furniture was turned over  We went to a hotel across the street and it was damp and mildewy in there. UGH. On the way home we stopped in Fredericksburg, VA and my soda came out of the vending machine with bugs crawling on it and Oreo barked at bugs coming in from under the door. We left at 2:00 in the morning to drive home! In 2006 we stopped in Hardeeville, SC and again the room was damp and musky. This past year we were THRILLED to finally find a nice place to stop! The hotel's only two years old so everything was great - the room was absolutely huge, bright and clean, and the flat-screen TV as a nice touch. Plus the staff was as nice as can be! It's in a more industrial part of Savannah but it's only a ten-minute drive to the historic district and the hotel was full of families so it was a nice atmosphere :thumbsup2
Yes, I was definitely put under when they put the scope in my throat. The nurse the night before had said I would be awake for it and I was PETRIFIED but when I got down to the OR, there was an anesthesiologist and he put me out for the entire thing.
I think Oreo is such a cute name! My friend named her dog Gordon24 and insists you call him by his whole name, not just Gordon.
I hate dirty hotels. I stopped at one in Nashville and when I pulled up, there was a guy urinating against the side of the building! :scared1: It was late and only for one night so I stayed but I ended up wishing I had left. The sheets were full of hair and the fridge still had open drinks and food from the past guests. Although that's not as bad as the time I went to one in Charleston and the mattress and the floor were covered in blood. I mean, totally covered. The manager ended up coming to the room to see for himself and tried to tell me that someone must have cut themselves shaving.
I love your binder! I kept planning to make one for our last trip but never got around to it. Everything was just stuck into a shoebox and I ended up leaving it at home. :lmao:

:lmao: Everyone either loves or hates the Yankees, there's no in-between. I love how infamous they are  It's funny though because while some of the players do hate each other, it isn't as heated between the teams as it is between the fans. When Johnny Damon came to the Yankees he fit right in and it was weird because I can't tell you how much I HATED him on the Sox and now I'm a big fan :lmao: You're right, ticket prices are outrageous! Even if it's not a big rivalry game you have to pay $75 to get decent seats. The only time I go to a Yankee game is if my friends and I are getting the $10 bleacher seats :rotfl:
In boston they apeerntly say the folowing about Johhny Damon: He looked like Juesus, Acts like Judus, throws like Marry!"

I am so excited that I found your pre-trip report. I followed your last one. I think I remember what a great writer you were and how much I enjoyed reading it and seeing all your great picures. That was you, right??? (There were lots of pictures, even on your drive down.)
I'm also so excited to hear about NYC stuff. It is the GREATEST city in the world, of course, with Disney running a close second!!! LOL....we live about an hour and a half north of NYC, so we try to get there as often as we can.
I've got to get back to page one. I was just so excited to find your report that I had to stop and tell you!

Hey Melissa,
I'm all caught up. I actually think the other report of yours that I followed was from a few summers ago. I'm more north of Westchester but I work in Rockland, just over the bridge from Westchester.
Hope Mike is better. Congrats to your Grandparents. That was so nice at St. Pat's. And happy belated 21st to you!!!!
I'm a major BB fan. So excited the show is on again. Go, Jerry!!!
We just got back from Florida. Watched Miley in NYC on TV while we were away. My DD9 would have loved to have seen her. We went to the concert with the Jonas Brothers in Newark in Dec.
Oh, what's the Italian restaurant you were in? It looked great!! It's in Brooklyn, right? Where?
Keep these great reports coming!!! One more oh....I'll PM you my FB. What's yours?

Oh, I know Rockland! I love finding people from the area on here, it's like we share a special NY bond  Thanks for the birthday wishes and the congratulations for my grandparents! Yea, after I posted my report from last summer I started re-posting my report from the summer of 2005. I never got to finish it on here but I have it on my Travelpod if you're interested. I loveeeee Big Brother and am really loving this season. I loved Jerry in the beginning but he gets a little... irritating sometimes. I'm rooting for the Angie, Michelle, Memphis, Jessie, Dan alliance, although I'm not a big fan of Jessie and Dan. I love the other three though... which means they'll be the first ones gone cause it happens every year
How was the Newark Miley show?! She's a cute kid and has a decent voice but I just don't get the whole phenomenon :confused3 And this is coming from someone who was OBSESSED with Hanson, 2Gether, The Moffatts, the Backstreet Boys, Aaron Carter... the list goes on, back in the day :lmao: I don't think her voice is all that good and the show's so cheesy! That being said, when I told my little cousin that we were going to see Miley she started crying and saying, "Oh, I just love her!" so I guess there's some sort of appeal :lmao: I'm gonna add you on Facebook as soon as I go on, thanks again for reading!!!
That was exactly the report I remember!!
I have to say, the Miley Concert was great! First of all, our daughter was ecstatic. It was her birthday present but we had kept telling her how hard it was to get tix. We also had really awesome seats. She was able to stand right next to the stage. And the Jonas Brothers were really good, too. It was essentially two shows in one. Have fun tomorrow!!!!

And thanks about the picture :) I need to put a recent one up. Jake looks super tiny in that one!
I'm really trying to plan a Disney trip for next August. I'll have vacation time by then to use and at my new job, they have a "use it or lose it" policy, so they really try and get you to use it up!
I'm excited that you already started your pre-trip report! WOO!

We went to visit family in Brooklyn, specifically to go ride the Cyclone. DH has done it many times....me and DD9 never. So we really wanted to do it. Well, after a nice visit/lunch with the relatives, we drove over to Cooney Island and the skies broke open. We knew the storm was coming. We sat in the cars a bit and waited, but the thunder and lightning did not let up. We will be going back to visit them a lot sooner that we thought....I am riding the Cyclone this year!! After that we stopped in an old favorite...Rollin Roaster...for a quick bite to eat, went back to their house and left. It was after 6 already and we had a ride ahead of us, but DD9 says she wants to stop in Manhattan and walk around a bit. She is a girl after my own heart! I can see how much she loves the city, too. It was funny...she was in the back and had the 2 year old asking "Can we just park and walk around?" too! After driving around a bit - DH always drives by where his grandma used to live and a few other places to reminisce - we got out and walked a few blocks. We were near the Flat Iron building. Had a cup of coffee, the girls had a snack, looked around a bit, explored a few places, and left the city about 9 to head home. The little one was soooooo tired. Me too! We are going back in a few weeks. We have a relative coming from Europe so we will be taking her in to see some of the touristy things. But at least I've had my fill on NYC until then.......I LOVE that place!!!

I BOOKED THE HOUSE! :woohoo: :woohoo: I've been meaning to send in the deposit since oh say, April, but I kept forgetting. Plus April was a little excessive considering it was still 15 months before the trip  Now that we're less than a year away, I'm psyched that we were able to send in the deposit. It was only $100 and my mom had some money on her PayPal account so we used that and then paid the rest. I'm so excited! We're set for July 24 - August 15, 2009. We're going to Disney World!

I just love strolling around Manhattan and checking things out. You'll have to let me know how Spamalot is. I showed my DH the street fair pictures. He knows the neighborhood.

That sounds great! We used to love the Renaissance Fair and go every year but we haven't been there since around 2002 now. What are your plans for the city tomorrow? Have fun!
The Renaissance Fair was a lot of fun. We haven't been in about 15 years. I was joking, saying we could go again in another 15 years....LOL....
We had fun in the city. We got lucky with the weather. It started to rain as we were going to eat and then it was fine when we got out again. We went to FAO Schwarz...spent so much time there. We had a blast. We saw the piano show...never saw that before. The girls liked playing on it, too.
We went over to Rockefeller Center and walked around a bit. (Very crowded. The parade was ending around this time, too.) We had to locate the Hungarian flag. (My cousin's daughter is here visiting from Hungary.) Then we went to the Disney store. Saw Jasmine. It's always fun there! Then we wanted to take my cousin's daughter to a totally touristy place to eat and we've never been to Jekkyl and Hyde's, so that's where we went. It really was great! They loved it. Thank god we didn't have the little one with us. She would have freaked!!
After that we walked around Central Park. We were on a mission to find the Balto statue. We had never seen it before.
We really had a nice day. My mom had taken our cousin in last week already to the city a few times and they did the CircleLine and a full day tour...went up on the Top of the Rock, Empire State, went over to the Statue of Liberty, etc., so we knew we didn't have to do all those things. I was thinking about a show....possible Hairspray, but I left it up to her (she's 13) and she wanted to do these things. We were beat at the end of the day!!
Oh my goodness....I just rambled on and on...sorry!!!

Thanks Julie! That's one of the reasons why we like to take longer trips. We only get to go once a year but it's always really relaxing and we get to do everything we want with time to spare. I just hope it all works out!
It sounds like you all had such a great time! What a tour you guys gave your family, you got so much done. I'm glad you liked Jekyl and Hyde, we hated it the last time we were there  The entertainment was fun but the food wasn't good and it was way overpriced. The last time I was there was March of 2007 with some friends and we all vowed not to go back  It sounds like it may have improved though so we'll see about checking it out again!
How was the parade? Did you see nay of it?
We didn't see any of the parade. We didn't realize it was right there until we heard the music while we were at Rockefeller Center. It must have been finishing up because we saw all the crowds of people right after. You're right about J&H - great entertainment, but crazy expensive. Food was ok though. We had burgers. Dh had pork chops. Said they were good. Must say, the margaritas were tasty!!!

With the surveys you really need to keep on trying. The free offers (use IE, a disposable e-mail and think about getting a fake phone # through AIM) can be a good way to earn credits, they're just a lot of clicking. Also, do any shopping you can.
Also, check out the q&a thread in the forums, they have a lot of newbie help there. I'm Hedy over there too, and Melissa is there as well.

thanks!! I have kept trying, and I just get aggravated and quit. I guess I just have to try more though, lol.
I do use an alternate email, and fake numbers and stuff. Those offers are the only way I've really earned points so far, that and the daily stuff.

Who cares if some people don't like "blog" threads. Some people hate me, and I try realllllllllllly hard but I can't seem to give a crap. :rotfl:
If the mods don't care, then I don't care. If someone doesn't like it, then they can skip over it. It's not that hard to do, I do it with MANY threads every day.
So sorry you had to cancel your trip. I know how bad that sucks.

I just heard from Heather about why you canceled. Sad your not going. I could never choose Broadway over Disney.
If you have followeres who would like to keep reading about your travels and everyday life come to Enchanted. You can do a blog like post there. Just a thought.
We are seeing "Gypsy" next week and "Mary Poppins" in 2.
