Anyone know why there isnt a member block party this summer? We've really enjoyed these the last few summers.

DVC spent a tremendous amount on the recent "enhancements" to the reservation system and can't really afford to squander any more money on member social events this summer. The "enhancements" will benefit ALL members, while summer social events only benefit the few members who go to WDW in the summer.

We all just need to savor the reservation changes and be thankful they were thinking only of us members with that change - since it was based on such tremendous member feedback. ;)

I have heard the word "enhancement" so many times during the past two weeks that it is becoming a regular joke at my house and my workplace!

Ok. I give up. What is the big expense to the enhancements? Maybe a one time system update or something, but if that cost us big bucks, we'd better take a closer look at how Dinsey is spending our money.

What were the enhancements? Does it include the new booking policy? Just curious, I really don't know. I do know the system needed some real updating though! Hopefully it will be better! Some better new CM training would probably be worth a few dollars too!

Whether or not Disney spent a lot on enhancements, they must be feeling the same inflationary costs as the rest of us - can you imagine what their fuel bill for those buses is like? I don't know if the block party was funded through dues or marketing dollars - if its the first then Disney really needs to be careful stewards of our dues (a block party that is only attended by a small subset of members isn't careful stewardship), if its marketing dollars then marketing dollars are usually cut in a down economy.

I wouldn't say that hosting a summer party would be hard on Disney costs being that we pay them. Everytime they send us a mailed item to help them sell this product I fell like I am getting something from a politician useing the Tax $$ to advertise themself. Its a total win for disney. Now saying that, things like the block party made me and my family feel very special, it was great and I wish they had it being I am writing this from the BCV. Not to mention all the people that got turned away to this highly exposed event when they found out it was a DVC event. I would bet it cost less for all the partys than it does for a single mailing. I would say if cost is the issue why have Welcome home Wednesdays. Its the same everytime and is a little stale. We actually plan our summer stay hoping to hit the summer party. I appreiciate the updated MS system online. But really wasn't that to help cut down the phone calls. So isn't that an investment in time management and less people to pay on the phones. And with sales doing so well you have to do something to cut the call volume down. Face it the real reason is probably that sales are so brisk that they don't need it right now. Will it come to the point that they don't apperciate the old DVC owners. Do the insentives (or discounts ) for point come right out of us as DVC owners. This I don't know. But I am sure that Disney is glad to have us with a bad economy hurting the country knowing that they have a built in attendance base ( Us). That spend a ton on food , tickets, and extras. So give me back my Summer Block Party!!! Its worth the expence. And if you want to suffer through the summer heat with us in July And august join me there. I feel like breaking into the "We are Family" song.

They are limited in the increase they can pass onto us. I think its 15%. If fuel costs, increased insurance, etc. drive dues above 15%, DVC will feel the pain - and so will members.

Moreover, the last thing they want is dues to go up by a lot - one of the questions buyers ask is "how much do dues go up." When that is a reasonable 3-4%, DVC looks like a bargain compared to increasing CRO rates. If DVC dues go up 10% next year, how fast do you think AKL or BLT will sell?

Larry:

I see you are staying at BCV, we will be arriving there in two weeks.

If you walk to or from Epcot can you check and see if there is any activity at the summer block party site at all? Does it look like it has been closed up since the last party ( I presume the Merry Mixer)?

Anyone know why there isnt a member block party this summer? We've really enjoyed these the last few summers.

I'm new to all this. Still trying to decide if a DVC is for us. There is so much i don't know! What is the Block Party and Merry Mixer? I assume they are some sort of party. Are they just for DVC members? Also, what is Welcome Home Wednesday?

thanks for all your help!
