Got up this morning and the Hamster had discovered that i had not put one of the tops on his cage quite tight enough and has made a bid for freedom!! Unfortunatly he is kept in the bathroom at night and we think he has got through a small hole into the gap between the floor boards.
At this moment there is a very irate husband moving the free standing bath, cutting a hole in the floor boards and i am hoping that the hamster will come back to his cage tonight for food!
DH is very, very annoyed and there is a lot of huffing and puffing going on:rotfl:
I hope he comes back because i feel awful that it was me that allowed him to escape.

Lucy is now sat in the bath rattling his food in a dish! She says she can hear him running about - quite how we are going to catch him we have no idea:confused3 My brother has a humane mouse trap so if he doesn't appear tonight i am going to try that tomorrow.
hope you find him :wizard:

Oh no, i am sorry but i have had to smile as we have been there. We had a robrovski (i think thats how you spell it!!!) hamster a few months ago but no one told us how fast they are and how high they jump!!!!!!. We took the lid off his cage to start handling him and he jumped straight out ran and jumped off the bed then under the bed. It is a draw divan so there is only a couple of inches gap. We ended up taking the bed apart and then the little monkey ran behind my wardrobe.Dh was down the side with a box while i was round the back with a feather duster trying to coax him out LOL Its quite hysterical thinking about how a 2" hamster had 3 grown adults on the run for almost 2 hours. I hope your hamster comes back soon and you and DH will be able to laugh about this in a few days :thumbsup2

Get a bucket (with some food in the bottom) and tip it on its side, rested on some books so it's slanted. The hamster can climb up the books, slide down into the bucket for the food, but then won't be able to get back up the bucket and get out.
Put some bedding in there and he may well be tucked up asleep in the morning. Also it's best to use some books you don't want (e.g. phone book) in case the hamster has a nibble first!

Don't mean to laugh, but can't help it! :rotfl: Brings back memories of when I brought the school hamster home for the weekend to look after him, and he escaped and hid behind my parent's very large, very heavy, very full dining room cabinet. They had to empty everything out of every cupboard to be able to move it forward and get Hammy out.
I was distraught - I had visions of having to go to school on the Monday and tell everyone I had lost the hamster. Luckily we got him, but I think the whole process probably took about 6 hours.
I wasn't allowed to borrow the hamster again. ;)
Good luck with your search - hope the little guy turns up safe this morning.

I hope you found him and he is OK. If not it might take a few days. One of the classes at my school has a pet hampster which escaped, it took 3 days to catch, in the end the poor caretaker had to dismantle a set of drawers that the children use for their trays. We could hear the hampster running up and down behind the drawers but could not get to him!
It remninds me as well of the day my classes pet gerbil escaped in class whilst the children were cleaning him out. I had all the children sitting with their feet up on the desks whilst 4 of them crawled around on the floor trying to trap him! Luckily they got him within 5 minutes and he didn't try to hide anywhere!!

I must admit, even though i am upset that it was my fault, i couldn't help but grin when DH was sawing away at the floor boards....all i kept thinking is "what if we ever come to sell the house!!".:lmao: No sign of him - i didn't hear him running about during the night (which i thought i would)...just hope he hasn't gone to Hamster Heaven! Am going to set the humane mouse trap tonight but it doesn't look very hopeful.
Andy has taken out some of the plasterboard wall in the downstairs toilet by the pipe that leads from the bathroom in case he had fallen down but he's not there. So now as well as about 2 square foot of hole in the bathroom, i have half a wall in the downstairs loo!!!!

I've been told that putting a piece of Mars bar in a trap is a good way to catch hamsters. They have to eat the food there and then :)

I lost my hamster once..
Our cat used to like to sit on top of his cage and look at him! and one day i came down and the cage top had come away from the bottom and the hamster was missing.
He was running wild in a house with 3 cats.. and I was distraught! I knew he would have been eaten by one of the cats.. and the thought of that was awful.
2 weeks later.. i open a cupboard door.. and there he was... sitting up on his back legs...!! well and happy! not at all the worse for wear as a result of his ordeal!!!
Dont lose hope :) They are resilient little things.. even with three cats around..

Nothing! I seem to be the only one that is really upset - Lucy is convinced that he will come back, DH is just annoyed that he has demolished the house in the hunt for him:rotfl2: I keep going over and over in my mind what could have happened to him.
I will keep you informed - thanks for all your concern.

Oh poor Hammy, hope the little fella comes back soon :)
I had a couple of incidents with my small pets when I was younger. One got into a set of draws and chewed holes in all my t-shirts (some were worse than others), another got into our bathroom and had the run of the upstairs - we cut a hole in my bedroom floor, put the ladder from the cage down and some food at the top and waited :lmao: another got down stairs inside the walls near the boiler and Dad had to take off the wooden panel, when we looked in its cage later it had empied its cheeks and had grabbed a big spider whilst adventuring
On a slightly different note - don't read if easily offended -
We once found a mouse in the hammys cage (without it head :scared: )
Didn't even know we had mice in the house :confused3
Gotta love those little fluff balls tho :rotfl:

I've heard this before, and almost had to try it. Our hamster used to escape all the time!! Found her once behind a lego box after following a trail of chewed carpet, and another time spotted one of DD soft toys had a frayed bit on, searched her room and pulled out the bed and there was little biscuit behing the bed!!!! I'll never know how she got up the stairs!!
Good luck!

Nope - no sign of him. I have put his sleeping compartment of his cage on the bathroom floor next to the "ripped" up floor boards along with some food but neither have been disturbed.
In the toilet downstairs i have again put bedding and food but none have been touched.
I just wish i knew if he was alive or dead! Lucy put it all in perspective the other night and said that he is only a hamster and imagine what Maddy McCann's parents must feel like!
I have almost given up hope and every morning now i really don't expect him to be there whereas the first couple of nights i kept thinking that he would come back.
Thanks for all your comments and concern - watch him turn up whilst I am in Ibiza for 6 weeks!!:rotfl:

OMG HOW DID I MISS THIS ONE!:lmao: :lmao: If it was a pony I'm sure Lucy would have searched a little harder!
Shame it wasn't one of your g'pigs with the funny haircuts .. no chance of loosing them down a small hole.
Seriously though ..... I hope you're all OK and the hamster surfaces soon.
I'm starting to see a pattern with Andy's anger ... I think he needs another days fishing on Mickey's lake! What are you doing 4 weeks from today?

Hi Sharon
No sightings yet...but i haven't given up hope! Food hasn't been touched and neither has the water but we had to switch the house alarm off last week because it kept going off randomly during the night (it's never done this before) Andy is convinced the hamster has been chewing through one of the wires. Going to Ibiza on Saturday so my next door neighbour has kindly offered to come and check the humane mouse trap incase he shows up! I really miss the little fella - miss getting him out at night and putting him in his ball so that he can run around.
Thanks for asking and i will PM you this week about your holiday
Love Andrea xx
