I saw on another thread that disers who were planning trips for the same month were going to plan together. I thought I would start a new thread to see if there was anyone else out there going in aug 09. I am becoming more and more confused about how to book my trip.

Hey Mickeyfan,
We are booked for a land/sea cruise trip in august 2009. By booking early (booked with dreams unlimited), we got a great price and on board credit. Staying at the Poly for the land portion, and booked at cat. 6 with verandah at sea. Really looking forward to it.
Don't be overwhelmed with the planning. Disney usually releases the 2009 booking dates for room only & packages in August. First thing to do is decide which resort you would like to stay at. As soon as you know, book that ASAP. If you book a room only (that is what I usually do), you will have to put one night's deposit down (deposit is fully refundable as long as you cancel 6 days prior to arrival). Also, if you belong to AAA, you can get a discount (15-20%) off of room (as long as there are AAA rate rooms left.....that's why it is important to book early).
Start reading through the disboards. These boards provide a ton of useful information and will help with your trip planning. I also recommend the passporters guide to WDW. Provides you with good information plus becomes a useful tool to your planning. The unofficial guide to wdw is also helpful.
Use those tools to help you decide where you would like to eat. It is really important to make your advance dining reservations early (right at the 180 day mark prior to your trip).
Have fun with the planning. It may seem overwhelming right now but once you start gaining information (reading disboards and recommended books), you will do just fine.
If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I started this thread to pull together some of what I've learned since last summer; it may help you as well: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1715551

I do have a passporter membership. There is a lot of info there as well as here. I have read soooooo much that I think I have forgotten what I have read. :lmao: I know where we want to stay I just need to talk to my sisiter and the friend that is going with us to make for sure of the dates before I book the rooms.

Our trip is for the 2nd thru 17th. Planning on staying at POP. I am getting excited and it is a year away. I have been planning this trip since we got back from our last trip which was Nov. 2007. That is bad I know.
We have 6 trips planned for 2009 and one is in August....see list below. Of course with airfare the way it is, one or two might have to be canceled if things don't settle down.

Hi! I am hoping for August or September for our first ever trip to WDW. We're hoping to go with friends that have two daughters really close in age to ours...and we all get along really well.
For never having been to WDW I'm completely obsessed with planning. I haven't purchased any guidebooks yet...I'm trying to wait until 2009 books are printed. I'm also waiting to purchase TGM until closer, since the longest his sub lasts is for one year.
I've been back and forth about 100 times about where we'll stay. Currently I'm debating between a mod (no idea which one) and a cheaper deluxe (probably WL).
I'd really like to go during free dining, but as soon as I plan the trip around that, they probably won't offer it again!
I'm with you too OP, about getting more confused. I'm constanly coming up with new Qs. Fortunately, the DIS has been awesome about helping me out!
Happy planning!

Hi,
My daughter and grandauthter and I are planning our 2nd trip for Aug. 7- Aug. 21. We are staying at the All Stars Movies this time. We stayed at the Pop in 2007. I have been planning since April of this year and am having a great time. Just waiting for the 2009 rates and times to come out. :yay: :yay:

We are planning on going in August of 2009. We are hoping for another PIN, i had one for this year but we where not able to use it. Right Now I think Aug 8-Aug 15. I also have a disney Visa so i am going to start to use it to gather points. I want to stay at the Poly. We stayed there for one night, and I fell in love with it. SO close to great meals and close to MK.
August 2009 seems so far away. I love these boards to help planning.

I have heard a lot of different thoughts on prices around this place. I have heard that it is cheaper to do each item seperatley than getting a package. How do you feel? Do you think a package is the best way to go or is it just individualized? There are 6 or 8 of us going and I am trying to save us all a little money. :confused3

I made changes to our Trip on JULY 4th, and asked if they had said heard anything about the free dining for next year and he told me that it was a good chance they would have one planned for next year, because it was so popular. Now im not sure how reliable he is BUT im gessing disney made a ton of money on that promotion so Im sure going to book a trip :D

Count us in for August '09!! Our family of 6 will be there and none of us can hardly wait! We haven't picked dates yet as we are waiting on rates and the possibility of free dining. At first we were all for free dining but now we're not so sure about the crowds that come in with free dining though.
Anyone been during a free dining time before that can talk about the crowd situation? We wanted to go in late August to avoid the crowds. Although saving money is tempting as well.
denise5374

I was there the week before Free Dining started in 2006...the crowds weren't bad. The weather wasn't bad either, we only had rain one day.

I don't know the price difference betweem a package and purchasing seperately, maybe someone else can help out with that. I choose a package because with a package everything is together and paid for before our vacation starts. Having it paid for beforehand is important to me.

Count us in for Aug 2009. Not sure of the exact dates..trying to plan around when discounts come out for next August (maybe around June 26) and the 45day window. We stayed at CBR last time and the kids really want to stay there again..so that much we know. Also waiting for news on the dining plan and the possibility of $50.00/person..I don't think we can utilize the dining plan for that much per person. Free dining would be great, but if it starts the end of August like it has been, that's a deal breaker for us. Kids usually start school the last Wed. of the month. Happy planning everyone..

Count me in too. Early August 2009. I'm thinking dates Aug 3 - 10. Anyway, I know if I book a room only and cancel later that I'll get ALL my money back, but if I book a package without insurance, and say in April 2009 realize I can't go, will I get all my money back?
mickeyfan1226
07-13-2008, 02:47 PM
Well I made our room reservations and will decide later what exactly to do. My brother-in-law and his son have decided to crash our girls only trip. ;)
I will figure up which way to go when prices come out whether to do seperately or package. I did get signed up for a fridge swap so that may help with the food situation. When we went on our first trip we had a package but our father paid for our trip so I did no planning for that one. This one I am pretty much lone ranger and planning it all then oking everything with the others. It is hard to do because my sister lives quite a distance from me so I am sending a lot of emails. My friend that is going with us works with me so her and I talk a lot about it but she has never been before so she really doesn't give much input. We are going from Aug. 2-17th and staying at the pop. I know I am cheap but I figure you are not at the room much so i will go the cheap route. I think this trip will be more laid back because of the length of the stay. Any suggestions from anybody are very welcome. I am a member of the passporter club so that has helped some and then of course this site is a great help. I am having a great time on the creative thread. I think I could make a shirt for all 9 of us to wear each day and none of us would have the same shirt. :rotfl: Now I am starting to create too so that does not help.

We plan to go late september 2009!
I would love to plan along with you and get good tips!
We are not sure what to do with where to stay.
The toss up is between the CSR or one of the Value, thinking POP?
The reason why we are going next year is so our children will be a bit older to really enjoy it.
We are now starting to think about the POP more because they will be so young and that way we can stay more days.
Idealy we would stay 9 nights 10 days.
We still have time before we can even book.

I can not decide where to stay. I am not debating on staying 5 nights and the POP and 3 nights at the Poly. Or 8 nights at CBR since they will have the new pool. I wish the new prices and meal plans would come out. I am debating on the basic and deluxe now. i would love a plan in the middle.

I, as well, will wait until the 2009 plans come out. Right now with airlines being in the shape they are in now I don't feel comfortable reserving everything so far ahead. By August, with some firm numbers, then we will get all of the adults together and plan.
BTW, we are hoping to keep it secret from the kids until as late as possible. Maybe even right until we go to the airport. :hyper:

We are planning a group trip in late August 2009 to celebrate my DD's 16th b-day. We know 2 of her friends are allowed to come, there may be as many as two more. We are hoping for free dining. Last night I was reading on the UK board that it looks like they are getting a modified version of Free dining, available Aug 2nd (earlier then normal) and stops Oct. 3rd. For them it looks like Moderates and AKL get the Counter service plan, upgradable for a fee, and deluxe gets the regular plan. They have never been offered free dining for values. If what I read is right they will be able to start booking on Aug. 20th so we should know more then. I guess this increases the odds of getting some free dining here, but it will likely be the reduced version. As long as we can upgrade for the $10 a day I will be ok with it, I think. Happy Planning, Donna :cool1:

We're staying at Pop for 5 nights (August 11-16) then at POFQ for 16 nights (August 16-September 1) - so excited!!
We're now waiting for flights to be released - probably won't be until late September. Luckily we get APs with our wedding so will be able to get DDE and hopefully save some money on the room rate - it seems they have been historically for late August.

We had our first family WDW vacation this past April (we being myself, DH and DD12). We all fell in love with the place and are desperate to go back:love:
Tentatively we’re planning on sometime in August 2009. We’re also considering May 2009 but realistically I don’t think we’ll have enough $ saved by then. Plus DD is starting Jr. High this year so pulling her out of school may no longer be an option.
Fingers are crossed for free dining in August – that would help A LOT! We only stayed 6 nights in April and we all decided that wasn’t nearly enough time so next trip it will be at least 9 nights (woohoo…extra Mickey time).
We stayed at CSR in April and LOVED it. I’d stay there again in a heartbeat, but DH would like to try something new, so CBR is being considered.
Everything is still up in the air right now – it will be after Christmas before we make any definite plans, but it sure is nice to even be considering another Disney vacation! I love reading everyone’s plans, hopes and dreams. It’s great to be a part of it!

If you stay at a WDW resort during the current free dining promotion, which is 8/24 to sometime at the end of September (9/20?), you can book a free dining package for next year 8/23/09 to 10/1/09 but you need to book before you check out and put down a $200 deposit.

We are planning (not booked yet) a trip for mid-late August, but can't decide exactly when to go. For those of you who have gone during the free dining, is it really crowded? DH would not enjoy it and I would be willing to give up FD to maybe go the week before if the crowds were a bit lighter. We paid for dining a few years ago and really enjoyed it, but not sure I would pay for it again, but free is a completely different matter;)

I didn't think the parks were crowded the last week of August. My parents used to take us in July when we were kids and that is what I considered crowded. The restaraunts can be quite crowded but most of the time we didn't wait more than 20 minutes past our ADR and sometimes we were seated right away. My DD and I did wait 60 minutes for a later character breakfast ADR so next time I would definitely schedule one of those at an earlier time.

Count us in too! Traveling August 6 through 15th, 2009. This will be our 14th trip to WDW and our first stay at Pop Century.
We usually go to Disney the last week of May through the first week of June. This year, we went August 9th through 16th. I was amazed at how nice it was. There didn't seem to be as many people there as in May/June. We quickly decided to book next year's stay during the same time frame. I sure am hoping that the less crowds weren't a fluke.
Are there any of you out there that have gone during May/June and August who can tell me if I made the right decision?

Maybe we will run into each other sometime while there. We will also be staying at Pop. Our trip is Aug2-16th. I will be decorating our windows this time. I did not do this our first trip because I knew nothing about this site for one. :)
Can anyone tell me if these meals and places are worth our time? Liberty tree tavern(heard this will no longer be a character meal?), Tony's town square, Biergarten, Garden Grill, 50's prime time cafe,sci-fi dine, espn, chef mickey, hoopdee doo, mickey backyard bbq, whispering canyon cafe. Last time we did NO character meals except for the castle. This time We want to want to take advantage of it but need a few suggetions from veterans. Also any suggestions on quick meals. We have the basic dining plan. I am the one making all the plans and ressies. Last time we did not take the time to explore we just rode rides and ran from one place to another. This time I want to take the time to actually enjoy what Disney has to offer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.;)

I'll be decorating our window too. I didn't this year 'cause it was a spur of the moment trip and it was a surprise trip. Our son knew absolutely nothing about the trip so I had to sneak around and hide things. I simply didn't want him to catch me making the decorations.
As far as the meals go, I can chime in about a few of your choices. We have eaten at Liberty Tree. It was pretty good food but, in all honesty, we went there for the characters not the food. We enjoyed our meal at Garden Grill but, again, we went there for the characters not the food. I loved their Orange Honey butter!!! We love the Sci-Fi. The atmosphere is great and our food has always been very good. The BLT soup is delicious and they have great burgers. We had a lot of fun at the Hoop Dee Doo Review and the food was really good.
Our favorite table service meals within the parks are Crystal Palace, Sci-Fi and Coral Reef. We don't do an "in park" table service meal at Animal Kingdom. Since the park closes early, we usually hit Downtown Disney and eat at Planet Hollywood or pay out of pocket. That day's table service credit goes toward our Hoop meal.
Our favorite counter service meals are Pecos Bills and Pinocchio's Village Haus at Magic Kingdom, Pizzafari and Flame Tree at Animal Kingdom, Electric Umbrella and Sunshine Seasons at Epcot and Backlot Express and Toy Story Pizza Planet at Hollywood Studios.
Have you checked out the menus at www.allearsnet.com? It's always been a great help to me.

Thank you for the info. I went to that internet site. There is a lot of info there. Have you heard the rumor about the LTT not being a character meal anymore. I don't remember which thread on here I read that.
I have 2 very pickey eaters and they are the pits to choose places to eat.
Buffets seems to make almost everyone happy and bbq's.

I booked All Star Movies (the last Value Resort to check off my list) with free dining for the end of August on the bounceback promo. I wanted to book now instead of waiting for April and the regular free dining promo since I predict they will change to the new CS only DDP and my family enjoys TS meals.

I so totally sympathize/empathize with you. My son is a super picky eater so I always try to choose places he will eat. Well, you know, how that I think about it, I am kind of picky too. We aren't real adventurous eaters but we do like a good meal.
I did read somewhere, I think on allearsnet, that Liberty Tree Tavern would no longer be a character dinner. I hope that they will put in another character meal at the Magic Kingdom but I really doubt it. AT the Liberty Tree Tavern, the food they serve reminds me of a mini-Thanksgiving meal. Mr. Picky doesn't like mashed potatos or beans but I asked our server if they could fix fries for him and they said they could od that for us.
I can tell you that the counter service meals I suggested have pretty normal picky eater foods....pizza, burgers, fries, etc......but they also have things for my husband and I.
At the Sci-Fi, even if you eat there at dinner, they will cook a burger for you guys. We asked them if they would do this and they had absolutely no problem at all.
There is fried chicken at the Hoop Dee Doo Review and one year (we've been three times), they had corn on the cob but I don't know if that is still on the menu.
The Crystal Palace is a very nice buffet. They even have a side buffet for little ones....chicken strips, rolls, fries and more. They can get things from "their" buffet as well as the main buffet. I love the character interaction here. They had an impromptu parade around the restaurant and the little ones were encouraged to join in and they always made sure they ended the parade right where they started it so the kids ended up back at their own table.
The Coral Reef had a pizza on their kids menu as well as other items. Even if they are over 9, they will still let them order from the kid's menu. If you are on the dining plan, they will charge you for an adult meal but your kids will have something they like.
At the Garden Grill, they also bring out chicken strips, fries, mac and cheese for the kids. They also brought out a decorate your own cupcake for our son.
By the way, how old are your kids? Some of the kids' meals at the counter service restaurants have a limited menu for the under 9 age group. I may be able to help make more suggestions once I know your kids' ages.

My girls will be 16 and 15 at the time of the trip. My niece will turn 8 the second day of our trip and my nephew will be 12 at the time of the trip. My friend that is going with us likes seafood but the rest of us don't can you suggest any place that she can get seafood but the rest of us can eat normal food?:rotfl: Sorry to be a pain in your backside. Our last trip nothing was really planned except for thanksgiving dinner and that was at tusker house which my youngest daughter wants to go there for her choice. The buffets really help out with the picky eater in our group.:)

You are definitely not a pain. I remember trying to decide (and I still have trouble even after going 13 times!) where to go with a picky eater.
Okay, so the Coral Reef (Epcot) is delicious and they have salmon, blackened catfish, seafood linguini, mahi mahi for the seafood lover and they also have New York strip and chicken and I believe they had a pork dish. The kids menu definitely has a pizza and I think another offering. We like the atmosphere of the restaurant. One whole side of the restaurant is glass so you get to watch the fish, sharks and rays swim by.
The Sci-Fi (Hollywood Studios) has a shrimp pasta dish, bbq ribs, butcher steak, burgers and sandwiches. Kids menus are pizza, beef and macaroni, burgers and hot dogs. The food has always been good and the atmosphere is fantastic. It looks like you are in a drive in theater complete with old cars (which you get to sit in while you eat).
At LeCellier (Epcot), they serve King salmon, prime rib, chicken, steak and halibut. They had a few choice for the kids including steak, pasta, pizza and hot dogs. The restaurant looks like you are dining in a wine cellar.
We have never eaten at Mama Melrose's but I see that their menu offers calamari, salmon, chicken, flatbreads and butcher steak. Their kids offerings are pizza, grilled chicken strips and spaghetti.
Like I said, some of the counter service kids' choices are pretty limited but we can usually find something for our son at the restaurants I talked about earlier.
Backlot Express at Hollywood Studios has chicken nuggets and sloppy joes for the kids. Adults can order burgers, chicken strups, salads and turkey sandwiches.
Pizzafari at Animal Kingdom has PB&J sandwiches for kids (which I think is dumb in a pizza place) and spaghetti and meatballs. Adults can order pizza, breadsticks, salads and italian sandwiches.
Flame Tree at Animal Kingdom has chicken wings and hot dogs for the kids. Adults can order smoked chicken, ribs, beef and pork sandwiches.
Toy Story Pizza Planet is a great find for picky kids because their menu is the same as the adult menu. It's also a good deal since you can order a combo meal which is pizza and a salad. The place is packed at meal time so it would be nice to have somebody stand by and grab a table while the other waits in line to order. My husband looked for a table and called me on my cell phone when he finally found one.
Let me know if you have more questions.....really, you're not a pain, I don't mind helping out at all!

How were the wait times at the parks. I imagine DH could handle some waits for food, but not to ride. We went last year first week of January and wait times were 2+hours for some rides (ouch!)
The only ride that had a 2 hour wait while we were there was the new Toy Story ride at Hollywood Studios so we only got to go on it one once during evening EMHs when the wait was 30 minutes. Most of the time the waits were non-existent or less than 30 minutes. If something had more than a 30 minute wait we would get a fast pass or try it some other time of day.

I am constantly buying for our annual WDW vacations. I have a box of Disney World stuff that gets added to quite often. I love shopping off season so I already have most of my clothes for next year's trip. www.disneyoutlet.com had some really cute shirts for just $5.00 so I stocked up. I pick up glow sticks, mesh laundry bags, etc. all the time. I know that I spend just as much money by buying all year long but, since it's spread out, it doesn't seem that way.

I would like to do an itineray for our trip but not all of the group lives here close. My friend that is going with us has never been so she just says "i am along for the ride." I told my sister that they needed to decide if they were going to do meals with us or on their own since we can make our ADR's the first of Feb. I know that is a few months away but like me my sister is a procrastinator. For our first trip there was no planning and only 1 ADR and that was for thanksgiving dinner. My father paid for the trip so none of the rest of us and there was a total of 13 of us had any say. I am making planns this time so we can enjoy disney and what it has to offer instead of just running from one ride to another. I want to go watch the shows that are offered, the parades and the night shows. I want to find hidden mickeys. Has anyone done the mickeys backyard bbq and felt it was worth 2 meal credits?? My sister is taking her daughter for lunch on her birthday to the castle but I don't want to spend 2 meal creadit on that since we did do that last time. Any suggestions on great places to eat? I am just rambling now so I guess I will go for now.

Hi all. We are scheduled August 30 - September 6 bounceback free dining 2009!!! Our original resort was BC but I have switched us to a 1 BR at SSR. I am a fanatic about planning and my DH and the DS's (13 & &) won't talk to me about it. I'm so glad to find a group of people who are as obsessed with planning a trip that is 10 months away as I am. :yay: I have my 180 day mark on the calendar and I'm thinking about where we will eat already so that I can call the morning of and book our ressies.

We are planning on going Aug 16th for 8 or 9 nights; I'm not sure yet. We are using our DVC points for a 2BR at (hopefully) the new AKV in Kidani village but I'm thinking about 5 nights there and 3 or 4 nights concierge at WL or BC. We haven't been able to all get together to go since June of 05 so I am so excited about this trip! My daughter will be 11 in March.
As for itineraries, I booked my trip thru Dreams Unlimited and they're taking care of any ADR's we might want, etc. I've got a few things planned, one of them being the Hoop-Dee Doo Revue the last night we are there. I don't know when they will be posted but I wish they would hurry up before Feb so we can plan our days. We are going to do meals with whatever park we do that day.
Exactly why we want them to hurry up as well, so we can start our meal planning! :)
This will be our first stay at POP and we are very excited!! The theming looks like so much fun, and we had an upclose view when our CSR bus stopped at POP first during our last trip.
My biggest worry is that my son won't like the pool as much (this is our first time at a value resort) with no slide, but THEN I realized, if he doesn't like the pool as much, it won't be as hard to drag him away from it ;)
I'm also waiting for my 2009 PassPorter to come, which really helps me stay organized.

We went this past August (first week) and thought it was a great time to go. When we got the PIN code I couldn't resist and booked us in again at the Grand Floridian. Unfortunately, we can't go until Aug 23-28 to use the code. Luckily, Labor Day is late next year, so we still have a week to recover before the girls head back to school!!

Well I think my group has decided where they want to eat. Only about 2 months and we can make our ADR's. I think we also have our plans made for most of the days but of course things can change. Continue to read books and make plans and then the rest of the group know what I found. Next time I bet they don't put me in charge of making the plans. :lmao:

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and am Wishing you all a Happy New Year.
We took our first family trip to WDW in August 2008. There were seven of us all together, and we stayed at VWL. DS4, and DD13 loved it, and really wanted to return. DW and I decided to take a trip with just the two kids (leaving DD20 behind, as well as my mother, and cousin).
Currently, we are booked for Aug 25 through Sept 5 at POP, though I think I am going to call tomorrow, and see about bumping our check in day to Aug 23rd. I figure we'll get the 10 day tickets, we'll be on property for 12 full days, so that will give us to NON park days to schedule in the middle of the trip for a bit of down time.
Last summer, we were there a bit before the free dining, but I'm hoping that we'll be able to get in on it this summer.

Do you have to wait 90 days out from the exact date of your dining reservation or from the first day of your vacation?

If you stay on site you get 90 +10 so if you are staying for 10 days you can make all of your ADR's at one time. It is 90 days from the day of the Reservation I belive. I could be wrong there too as you saw I was wrong earlier. LOL

I have rebooked - using the 4/3 deal. It was too good a bargain to pass up so we have switched our dates from the end of August to 8/7 - 8/15. We will be at the CR.

Over on the restaurant/dining boards, there is a calculator you can use to get the exact date you can call and make ADRs. I think the thread is entitled something like "ADRs are now 90 days" or something similar.

Well back to the drawing board to figure up how to do the one I had to change. Well anyway things are good because we are in to double digits countdown.:cool1::banana::woohoo::dance3::cheer2:

We are planning to go 8/2-8/8/09. We have to go earlier in the month cause the kids start back to school on the 19th. We are doing the quick service plan this time so I will only need to get a couple of ADR's I think.

It is now coming down to the nitty gritty. Am I going to get everything printed and ready for the trip? If I would not spend so much time on the DISboards I would get more done. LOL I think the planning is more or less done it is just getting shirts and decorations done. Can't forget I have to pay the trip off by the the 15th or all will be for nothing. LOL:) Hope to see some of you around the resort. You will truly be able to see our room due to the decorations.:rotfl:
