View Full Version : 2009 Promotion Rumors

I don't know if this is the right place for this (couldn't find a rumor board).
Has anyone heard anything about next years (and on) Promotion for
the WDW park? I know YOAMD is ending on Dec 31st, so something
else must be starting next year (logical hypothesis).
I heard tell of a Magical Gatherings or something to the like rumor but
no real follow up on how that would come to be...
Perhaps a place is in order to discuss the wishes or truths/rumors we
have heard or would LIKE to hear regarding whats in store for those of
us not going to the world until next year! I'm sure we'd all like our
dreams to come true too! (including of course the coveted stay
in the Cinderella Suite!)
So let the rumor mill churn!

No dreams ... never saw any Dream Team ... only SLIGHTLY MIFFED  ... (not really). I LOVED WDW :lovestruc so much, just being there was a dream.
But I do think the "Celebration" themes are nicer. Go ahead and give "dreams" out but just not as a THEME ...
Anyway ... cause I always say this in response to the many times the question is asked ... but now even more apropos due to gas prices.
YOTSM (Year of the Second Mortgage).
I really think YOAMD is going to continue for another year at least. I don't think Disney wants to put out the money for another "theme" during this time.

Sorry, I know this question has been asked before, but I was just check'n on updates...
I doubt they will continue this theme, if they were really going to do that, wouldn't they have just gone ahead and announced that already instead of still claiming the end date is Dec. 31st?
But both of your guys' ideas sound realistic and fun! *sarcasm
I just wish it would involve some of the fun stuff from this theme, doesn't
neccessarily have to be this theme, or these prizes, but something similar.

Anyone can ask as many times as they like. No problems there.
My point was that if someone can ask a question again,
I can offer the same answer again.
If lurkers happen to see a re-run... roll with it.

Yeah, I like the "dream" idea but I really like celebrations better. You know I just re-watched the YOAMD planning DVD and I liked it better than I did when I watched it before ... I must need a Disney fix bad :rotfl: ... but I really think they are going to keep YOAMD at least another year because of all the money invested in it.
Are there any anniversaries coming up that they might build a theme around?
PS: I liked that you created another thread about it Ally - :goodvibes I think I was feeling miffed because someone [else] DARED to point out to ROBO he repeated himself ... like he can't take care of himself! :rotfl2:

Sept of 2006 we misse out. we had just walked out of Main St. Bakery with ice cream in hand, paid for with cash. no sooner did we step outside and the mayor decreed all ice cream will be free for 30 min. i can't say we were miffed, just a little bummed.
by the way, how many years is YOAMD going to run for?

Disney could stay with the "Dreams" theme: "Disney- the place where Dreams come true." And stay with simple dreams. Just a thought.:cool1:

Anyone participate in the WDW survey? It was a lot of questions about Birthday celebrations. They had you rate different experiences and whether or not you would come based on certain circumstances. Would you come on your birthday for: Fastpasses, free park admission, etc. Wander if this has anything to do with an upcoming theme?

The Year of The Three O'Clock Parade! Now being shown at Three O'Clock!

I'm pretty sure YOAMD is ending on the last day of 2008. The sooner they end it, the sooner they can start renting out the suite in Cinderella's Castle for crazy money.

We also went twice during this promo, no "dreams" so to speak and never saw a dream team, but had many magical moments. The cast members were just treating my daughter so special at every turn. From asking to be the Guest Skipper on the Jungle Cruise, being asked to start the Illuminations Fireworks at the Rose and Crown and one cast member who learned we were having breakfast in Norway with the Princesses, gave my daughter "jewels from the cave of wonders" to pass along to Jasmine when we saw her the next morning. She gave her three which my daughter asked "one for Jasmine, one for Aladdin and one for me?" We did indeed see Jasmine and she was wonderful about the whole story. Oh and we were upgraded to concierge at the Poly no less!

Hi all,
I called Disney today to inquire as to when the 2009 packages would be out (aprrox. mid to late August)  and was told that Disney is going to extend YOAMD through 2009. :confused3 :confused3 This is the first time I have been told that and I have been calling at least 1x a week for the past 2 months

Well, I guess we'll probably save $$ on refillable mugs next year since they're probably not going to redesign them if they keep the theme (We went May of '07 for a full week and saw someone win a free dessert at the ABC commissary; a magical memory that we'll treasure always).
In fact, it will probably save us a lot of $$ on souvenirs in general. That monochomatic blue color scheme...yecccch. Yo, Mickey - 1982 called and wants its prom tux back!

The next theme will be a retread of the “Magical Gatherings” marketing from a few years ago. This time it will be based around family “celebrations” – birthdays, anniversaries, baby’s first trip, etc. The emphasis will be one all the “celebration” extras that you can buy (special name tags all the up to mortgage busting private parties) rather than on what Disney will do for you.
Expect lots and lots and lots of nostalgia based ads and hammer-like blows to grandparents to “organize trips”. Disney knows that all the disposable income today is with retired baby-boomers so they’re going after that demographic with everything they have. It's an easy of way getting eight customers all at once rather have individual families visit on their own.
The are even rumors that some facilities will be overlaid for the “celebration” theme along the line that the Plaza Inn at Disneyland is now a “Birthday Party” restaurant.

Source on this? I've heard it too, but I can't find any proof or even START of this rumor? Someone said a CM told them YOAMD will be continuing, you say a new theme is on it's way...
WHAT MADNESS IS THIS!!???
Thanks!

I've heard the celebrations rumor as well..not real clear on what type - just an emphasis on celebrations. As for what the CM's are saying, remember they say LOTS of things so take it with lightly. I remember reading stories on here about bus drivers saying/giving all kinds of information/rumors with very little of it being true.

Please note that at this time this is only a rumor and nothing has been confirmed by Disney Corporation.
The next promotion after the Year of a Million Dreams is rumored to be "Magical Celebrations."
The emphasis will be on marketing the Disney parks and resorts worldwide to guests celebrating special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, graduations and the like. It supposedly will be a scaled-down version of the YoMD promotion, with fewer prizes. Like anybody has seen a lot now, right?
More rumor, this will be a smaller scale celebration until the launch of Walt Disney World's 40th celebration in 2011. Nothing has been confirmed by the Walt Disney Company.
An official annoucement should be expected sometime around August when the 2009 package rates are released.

Funny you say that... and how true it is... I spent about 25 days in the parks during YOMD and won 1 thing... and it was the worst thing for me to win... the pin set, which got me into collecting those stupid pins which are more addictive than crack and more expensive too... Curse you YOMD... and all I WANTED was the Cinderella Suite night... sigh.:scared:

I'd be surprised if this announcement came at that time and not at the big press event in early October which would coincide with the start of a new 'business' year for Disney.

Can you imagine the birthday, anniversary, family reunion, first trip etc etc. buttons Disney will be handing out :rotfl2:. There goes the whole celebration because EVERYONE will come up with something to celebrate on the chance to get a prize. Disney will run out of buttons.
We went twice during YOMD and I have to agree with the majority of posters. We never received a "dream" nor did I ever see the dream team. We went in February of 2007 and May of this year. So :confused3 so much for the "dreams"............lol. The only team I saw was the "green team" you know the ones with their hands out............:lmao:

Dream squad members don't really stand out. I only know what they wear because my bf and I got a VIP meet n greet with Cinderella on the first day of our trip. After that I saw them all over the place. I saw them all over on my trip in June, but as I said they are hard to pick out.

Heh, one of my DHs pins is Jessica Rabbit. My DD4 is quite offended by that "You're a boy! You can't have a girl pin!" She's a bit too young for us to explain to her that Daddy likes Jessica Rabbit for a totally different reason. ;)
