I have never heard of this park, I Goggled it and it looks like fun.

I love cold weather, when I went to College in Texas I would walk to class during a snow flurry in a short sleeve shirt and shorts, everyone would just say there goes that "Nut" from California again.

Google says I can be there in 37 Hours...So if I leave right after work will you hold breakfast for me on Thursday morning?

Wonderland is fun, but it's no Disney! The first ride I hit up when I go is Top Gun as it always gets a ridiculously long line. I have gone on every ride except for The Bat because I was too chicken and afraid of going backwards. Well now that I have gone on Everest I have no excuse for not riding The Bat.

INTRODUCTION



Last year at this time, if you had asked me about returning to WDW for a second year in a row, I’d have laughed in your face. I would never have imagined that I’d be able to convince DH to agree on returning to Walt Disney World so soon. Yet somehow, I find myself trying to talk him into taking us next year as well. That part remains to be seen.

The important thing is, he did consent and we’ll be on our way in just a few short days!!!! The big difference being, we’re not flying this year. DH never complained about our flight last summer but I’m guessing it obviously wasn’t an experience he’d like to relive which is why we’re driving. Yes…driving. From Ontario, Canada. Twenty-four hours in the car people. :eek:

At first I thought it was the cost of the flight for the four of us that bothered him but after checking into it and learning that we could fly from Rochester, NY for almost the same cost as driving, I was still unable to convince him.

I didn’t press the issue because frankly, I was so excited he accepted my idea of returning this summer!!!! :cheer2: :yay: :cheer2:

How do you entertain two teen daughters for 24 hours in a car and prevent them from fighting? :confused3 If you have the answer to that, please share the knowledge.

We will be leaving on August 22, after DH makes a quick appearance at work (enough time to pick up his pay check in other words). I’ve made no advance reservations for hotels on the way down (or back). Who knows where we’ll end up? Probably some truckers stop full of lot lizards. :scared:

We hope to arrive in Cocoa Beach on the evening of the 23rd and stay for one night. Then on the 24th we are going to spend the day at the beach before heading to our resort at WDW where we’ll be staying for nine glorious nights! :woohoo:


I’m now going to give you a quick, shortened version of the cast (if you prefer the longer version, please refer to my PTR):

Blue: That’s me! The DIS-addicted writer of this trip report.

Grumpy: My DH. Smart, sexy, charming, brilliant, special, loving, perfect, sweet, wonderful, darling man (As you can see, I’m laying it on thick here. That’s part of my plan to butter him up for next years trip)

After cooling off in our room and freshening up for dinner we made our way to the bus depot, stopping along the way while the girls chased more lizards. They managed to catch a baby – it seemed those were the only ones they were quick enough to grab most of the time.

When we arrived at MGM, we stopped to watch the HSM show. It was a wee bit hot for standing around but Goofy was curiously interested in it so we waited with her.

After making our way to Sci-Fi we waited inside for our name to be called. I had no idea what to expect and when we were ushered inside the dining area, I was mildly amused with the atmosphere. The girls took a bunch of pictures before settling down in the front of the car and described the restaurant as “one of the cool ones”.

We ordered appetizers and the girls chose salads and mac&cheese for their dinner. DH & I ordered steak. As usual, after such a filling meal we were unable to eat our dessert and when the waiter offered to pack them up to go, I accepted.

Grumpy didn’t want to be bothered carrying the dessert around and said to forget it but I didn’t want to waste good food and mentioned that I’d look after them.

Goofy asked if we could see Star Tours since we missed it last year. Being our first time, we thought it was pretty neat and enjoyed the ride. When it was over, I looked in the bag to check on the desserts. Ugh. What a mess!!!! As soon as I found a garbage can I dumped the bag and said to Grumpy, “Don’t even say it.”

JoJo was anxious to get to the Villains store so I checked the map and led the way. Its’ one of her favourite places to shop at WDW and she was hoping to find a skull belt and a Jack Skellington shirt.

I bought myself a POTC Hoody and once Goofy saw it, she had to have one too. JoJo was in her glory! I can’t remember exactly what she purchased but I do recall her spending a lot of money in there. As usual, DH didn’t buy anything for himself but he did pick up a Jack T-shirt for JoJo and a knitted hat for Goofy.

By the time we finished shopping it was dark outside and I realized we had missed Fantasmic. I assumed we could catch the show another night and decided to call it a day.

After we got the girls settled in the room, DH and I decided to go for a drink and sit on the deck by the river outside the food court area.

A fellow Canadian from Guelph joined us for about twenty minutes and we talked about the free dining and what a deal it was. He said his wife found out about it on the internet and I figured she must be a DISer. He had no idea what I was talking about so I dropped the subject. Newbies – HA!

He told us a long story about buying a case of beer somewhere near Downtown Disney and carrying it on the bus back to the resort pleased with the price. We never saw him again during our stay.

After enjoying some quiet time with Grumpy, we went back to our room. I was disappointed to find out that I had missed a call from PrincessJasmine from the DIS. She talked to JoJo about the trip for a bit and said she’d call me back in the morning.

After everyone went to sleep, I tried to get on the internet again and was pleasantly surprised to see that the problem had been corrected. I needed a DIS fix. It had been four days already.

I checked my email, posted a quick update on the DIS and then called it a night. It didn’t take me long to fall asleep.

We planned on waking up early so that Goofy & I could try out Shark Reef without having to wait in a long line. Did that happen? Nooooooooo. Well, we did get up fairly early, the problem was getting ready and out the door on time.

We never bring very much to the water park. I packed a few things into my bag including the camera and dug out the new Crocs I bought for DH. It’s the only time he said he would wear them.

Before our trip I bought FAKE Crocs for all of us. I remember Buzz asking in my pre-trip report what the difference was between the real & fake shoes. I told him I didn’t know – the price I guess?

The next hurdle was the bus stop. For some strange reason we ended up having to wait 45 minutes for a bus to Typhoon Lagoon. We’re definitely going to take the car to the water parks this summer if I have anything to say about it! Grumpy prefers the bus. He says he’s on vacation and doesn’t want to be bothered having to drive anywhere since the transportation is already available. Hooboy. I do agree with him when it comes to the 4 main parks but not for DTD or TL.

Once we arrived, we rented a locker and some towels and made our way down the path in search of a shady area to put our stuff.

You all know how hard it is to find a good location if you’re late getting there. We gave up on the shady area and tried to find an empty chair or two. Sheesh – the place was packed and just when I was about to give up I spotted 6 empty chairs in a circle. As I started placing our towels and bags down on one of them, a woman came running over and said:

CrabbyLady: That’s our chair!

Me: Eh? [Looking at the EMPTY chairs]
Me: Uh....there are six chairs here!

CrabbyLady: Yes & they are all ours!

Me: OH...well can we have one of them to use?

CrabbyLady: No, there are 6 of us here & we’ve saved them.

Me: But you’re the only one here.........

CrabbyLady: The others are swimming right now and will be back later. If you wanted a chair, you should have made it to the park earlier.

Me: [I tsked her and moved on]


As I was walking away another woman called me over, moved some stuff off of a chair and offered it to me. I thanked her and motioned for the others to come over. I wondered what DH was doing anyways and only later found out that he was enjoying my dilemma from afar & was photographing me the entire time! :mad:

By then the heat was starting to get to me and I suggested we hit the wave pool first to cool off before deciding where to go next. We all removed our FAKE CROCS and headed for the water.

The wave pool is awesome! After taking a few pictures of my gang, I walked out as far as I could & swam over to DH and hung onto him because it was over my head (he’s much taller than me). When the big waves would come, I’d let get and swim with them usually crashing into someone because I keep my eyes closed the entire time.

The girls wouldn’t come out past their waist and kept calling me to join them, which I did after having some of my own fun first.

When we tired of that, Goofy & went over to the Shark Reef and decided against it for a second year in a row because the wait was too long. Instead we headed for the Lazy River. That’s the girl’s favourite at TL.

After I made sure the girls had their tubes, I caught the next one and was off. DH was right behind me and I began talking to him without looking back. I can’t remember the conversation exactly but it was something about “this being the life”. After realizing he wasn’t answering me, I turned around and he wasn’t there. Instead I was almost face to face with another man who was grinning ear to ear at me. I was so embarrassed, I merely said “OH”. I scanned the crowd behind him and noticed DH much further back & off to the side. I made my way over to him and this time hung onto his tube as we floated along.


After that we decided to go have lunch. DH & JoJo ordered some burgers & fries while Goofy & I went in search of a table. As we waited, we saw a bird leave its droppings in a kid’s salad and it reminded me of our last trip except it was MY fries! I left Goofy at the table so that I could help DH with the food and to make sure mine was covered so it wouldn’t happen again.

When we finished, the four of us walked around the food court and took a few pictures. Here are some of a play area where they have games for the kiddies.

Next we went on Crush N Gusher with almost no wait. I guess the park was starting to clear out. When the ride was over we got back in line and went a second time.


DH & I decided to go back to the wave pool and the girls left for the Lazy River. I told them to meet us back at our spot for 3:00.

The strangest thing happened when we went to gather our belongings. All of a sudden, DH yelled, “HEY MY CROCS SHRUNK!”
I did a double-take. What?? :eek: Did I hear him right? Wait a minute! I looked down at his feet and sure enough his FAKE CROCS did shrink!!! He couldn’t fit his feet into them properly. His heels were hanging over the back and the sides looked very tight.


I noticed a few others looking over at us curiously. I was hoping they didn’t hear - what I first thought -that I had heard. I tried mine on and they were fine, same with the girls but we had ours covered with our belongings and his were a darker colour – black.


DH grumbled all the way to the bus stop asking why I bought cheap shoes. Oops. :rotfl2: The girls & I couldn’t stop laughing at him, watching him shuffling along with his now too small crocs. He finally took them off and only put them back on to get on & off the bus. Once we reached our room he threw the shoes in the garbage.

Don't worry about the fake crocs thing. The real ones can't withstand Moan Boy. He's ruined 2 pairs so far this summer. I actually bought him fake ones last time to save $ and they've held up better than his real ones. Although they haven't been in water.

He came home from school one day with one of his Mickey crocs taped together where he'd broken it. For some dumb reason, I saved both of them-the broken one and the good one and now LA is wearing the good Mickey one (which is blue and green) while wearing one of her Mickey ones which is purple and pink. She looks like a nut. :headache:

Real Crocs shrink too! I left one of my Crocs Athens on our back deck in full sunlight and it shrunk 2 inches. (I only left one because I spilled iced tea on it and left it out to dry after rinsing.) I can't believe it shrunk that much. So, I tested it by putting the other one out in the sun and, sure enough, it shrunk up too!! Totally sucks as REAL CROCS are expensive! :mad:

After returning from the water park, the girls went off in search of some cast members to trade pins while DH & I took a short cat nap in our room. When the girls returned, the four of us changed and got ready for our Hoop Dee Doo Dinner Show. I reminded everyone to bring along a sweater because the year before we found the restaurant to be fairly chilly & I tried to keep my legs warm by wrapping my napkin around them. http://bestsmileys.com/cold/2.gif



With plenty of time to spare, we thought we’d head to DTD and pass the time shopping. When I stepped off the bus, I peeked inside my wallet because I couldn’t remember taking our HDD tickets out of the wall safe. I sheepishly looked at DH and whispered, “Um...I forgot the tickets honey.” :eek:


I’m not sure what kind of reaction I was expecting but I was surprised by his calm demeanour. He simply said, “We probably don’t need them!” Hmmm....As much as I wanted to believe that, I didn’t want to take the chance so I told him I was going to ask at the information booth ahead of us. To my dismay, I was told we definitely need our tickets. DH, the sweet man that he is, offered to go back to the resort by himself while we shopped and said he’d meet us at the bus stop around 8:00 PM. :love:


True to his word, Grumpy made it back a few minutes past eight. He told us the POR bus driver dropped him off right in front of the parking lot after explaining the situation to him. That’s a fine example of how the CM’s spread the magic in WDW. pixiedust:


We caught the next bus to Fort Wilderness and still had 45 minutes to spare. After checking out some pins, DH bought us each a beer and we sat on the porch while the girls continued browsing. As we were enjoying our drink & some quiet time, Grumpy passed me a bag from the shop. Inside I found this:

With Category 1 Seating, I knew we would be close to the stage but I wasn’t prepared to be right up front & center!!! We’re a shy group, not the type who want to be chosen for shows, nor do we volunteer. Just the same, I was proud of myself for scoring such a great table! :banana:

We settled into our spots and DH ordered himself a beer, a glass of wine for me and soft drinks for the girls. This was our second time seeing the show and we still laughed at the same corny jokes and enjoyed our meal which consisted of ribs, chicken, mashed potatoes, salad, cornbread and strawberry shortcake for dessert.

While eating dinner, I noticed an earwig crawl up the side of the stage and was worried it would find its way onto our table. :scared1: I pulled my chair back a bit and that’s when I lost sight of the darn bug. Grumpy ordered me a second glass of wine and I soon forgot about the creepy crawler.


One of the stage performers who was watching DH laugh said, “Look at him grinning, he’s NOT that Grumpy!” My first thought was, how does he know we call him Grumpy? Hunh? Then I realized he had noticed DH’s T-Shirt. I’m sure he turned three shades of red after being pointed out. Heh Heh.

One downside to sitting so close to the stage was the close proximity to the cast. We found ourselves straining our necks to look up during the show. The other problem with being too close was the spray. There was a certain performer who sprayed when he talked and it was just plain gross, especially while eating. :crazy2:

When the show over, we were pleasantly surprised to find a POR bus waiting to take us directly back to our resort. We didn’t have to take the boat over to MK and then hop on another bus! That was a sweet bonus. :thumbsup2



I may have had a little too much wine during dinner because I don’t remember much of the ride back to POR. What I do recall is the girls laughing at me while making the trek from the bus stop to our room. :p

How important is rope drop to you? During our first trip in 2006, rope drop was not high on our priority list of things to do while in WDW. It was something we had never experienced nor had the desire to do until Buzz mentioned it to me. He made a list of things that we should do on our trip in 2007 and a rope drop was high up there.


If you know me well enough, you know I'm not a morning person. Sure I can get up at the crack of dawn but don't ask me to talk or walk and definately don't ask me to rush around. It just ain't gonna happen so this was a biggie for us.


Luckily for me, after having drunk some wine the night before at HDD, I woke up at 5:20 with a big thirst on. I figured since I was already up that early, this might as well be the day we make the mad dash for it. I let the girls sleep until 7 and we were ready to go by 8. Plenty of time and it gave me almost 3 hours to come alive and get those joints moving.


We arrived at Epcot and waited for a short time outside the gate and wondered what the big deal was. I didn't see any characters, no special parade........NOTHING. WTH? The girls said, "Is this it? Boring!" :confused:


Uh.......I guess so. I was just as confused as they were and mad at myself for wasting precious morning sleep. :headache:


We went through the gates and that's when we realized the rope drop was further into the park. Ooops.....sorry for cursin' ya Buzz. I hope your ears weren't ringing too loudly that morning. :rolleyes1

Indeed it is a must see if you've never done it or have young children and I can understand where it would be very exciting if your family was the chosen one. They were able to go for a ride in a test track car and had personal greetings with Mickey & the Gang. That being said, it's something our family probably won't race out to see in future visits.

Then we made our way over to Test Track. I couldn't talk them into it the year before but this year they were all for it...well except JoJo. She was a tiny bit afraid as you'll see from the photos.

When it was over, I asked her what she thought and she said it was too fast but not that bad. w00t w00t!!! Without letting too much out of the bag...she actually recorded the ride this past trip!!!


I loved it! Even Bill didn't mind it. What a neat experience :)

Then we headed over to Ellens Universe of Energy which was another first for us. I have no pictures of this but was totally amazed with Disney and what they can do. It wasn't what I expected at all.

I was hoping to try out Mission Space but couldn't talk anyone into joining me so we made our way over to the Worlds instead. I stopped along the way to look at the pin traders pins and DH had to drag me away. I could have talked and stayed longer but I guess he found it boring and rushed me away :mad:


The park was almost empty :thumbsup2

We headed to Mexico first and I bought the girls some passports. They had a lot of fun getting it stamped and reading the CM's comments from each country.

What I liked about the passports is that it forced us to stop at each country ;)

I have to say that DCA has grown on me, I still do not know why they put a tribute to California in the middle of California....:confused3

The new make over looks like it is going to be pretty nice, I was out the other night and saw all the work going on in the lagoon for the new light show, I never knew the lagoon was that deep.

There are construction walls up every where it seems, makes it hard to navigate in some areas.

Too fun, Heidi! We have yet to really "do" the World Showcase with DD's. What a fun way to do it! I'm hoping that doing the Kim Possible thing this fall will get us around WS more. Can't wait to hear the next installment.

Compared to last year the weather was gorgeous! The heat and humidity from the hurricanes in 2008 just about killed us and we swore we would never go back at that time of year again.........and yet we've booked another trip for free dining this summer :rolleyes1

I'm sorry for the delay! I was very busy over the last few weeks at work filling in for other people that weren't there but now everything is back to normal so I should have a new installment out by Wednesday at the latest!!

It rained steady the first two days we arrived and let me tell you, it was much cooler on those days than on the hot humid ones that followed! After that we hoped for more showers! :laughing:

Now that Stitch is out of the way I will continue our journey through World Showcase. After buying the girls passports and getting their first stamp at Mexico we made our way around the circle. Everytime we've been to Epcot we seem to miss the outside entertainment that I've seen in other pictures. No matter, the park was fairly empty and the temperature manageable!

As you can see from JoJo's Mickey bag, she's already made a few purchases but I couldn't tell you now what they were. I like to use the service WDW provides where they ship your goodies back to your resort for you but the girls would NEVER do it. They didn't trust them for some odd reason. Oh well...I'd tell them "Suffer and carry your items around all day then!" :sad2:

I had to stop and get a picture of the trains in Germany because Buzz asked me about them after our 2006 trip and I had no idea what he was talking about. We totally missed them that summer. I've learned so much from so many people on the DIS about WDW that I just couldn't imagine what it must be like going without any of this knowledge! :thumbsup2

We stopped in USA and used some of our snack credits for some hot pretzels and ice cream bars. Not what you would call a nutritious lunch but it filled the spot! :rolleyes1

Next we came upon Aladin and Jasmine and the girls were excited because they didn't have their autographs yet and hadn't seen them before. Unfortunately, we were told they would be taking a break after the next child in line and wouldn't be back until a later time. I asked Grumpy to take a picture of them since I knew we wouldn't be waiting and the CM Handler started yelling at him! :scared: It startled me so much that I just about dropped my own camera. Apparently you are not allowed to take pictures of the characters unless your own child is with them. This does make sense for privacy issues and children's safety but Grumpy didn't even include them in the photo! The CM became a little overly agressive and blocked the view but not before DH was able to snap this one off.......

Ya....we did do it again :sad2: but in our defense it was another character that we didn't have any pictures of and hadn't seen before! I should also mention that the second time it happened, the girls were in line near the back when DH was told and when he pointed them out, the CM told him he should wait until it was their turn :headache:

We have never had any other encounters with rude CM's that I can think of so can't complain too much.

We go to Canada every summer and we always cross at sue stx marie (I know thats spelled wrong I can never spell it right). If we are with DH family then we head way up north to Horwood Lake about an hour away from Timmons. My grandparents own a couple of cabins in Whitefish Falls which is about an half hour away from Esponola and about an hour away from Sudbury. Again spelling is probably way off. Both Dh and I grew up going to Canada every summer.

My dad always told us to be quiet too when crossing the border unless they asked us a question. They have never been pulled over (which when going for over 30 yrs as a married couple and even longer for my dad since he has been going at least twice a year since he was 6)
My aunt always flips out every time they go over bc my uncle was pulled over and searched once and of course was ticked off they didn't put anything back.!:rotfl:

My dad used to have a radar detector that are illegal in Canada at least they were. This has probably been 10-15 yrs ago. We were almost out of Canada about a mile away from the USA bridge and a cop pulled him over and took it. He got a ticket and never got it back. We thought he would let it go since we were almost out of the country but nope. Said there were signs saying it was illegal. Let me tell you it took us a couple more years before we found it...they were tiny! Who is supposed to see that??

WOW! We haven't crossed as many times as you but DH & I did get pulled over once and told to "come inside" :scared1:

I was horrified and have been afraid of the crossing guards ever since.

My dad used to have a radar detector that are illegal in Canada at least they were. This has probably been 10-15 yrs ago. We were almost out of Canada about a mile away from the USA bridge and a cop pulled him over and took it. He got a ticket and never got it back. We thought he would let it go since we were almost out of the country but nope. Said there were signs saying it was illegal. Let me tell you it took us a couple more years before we found it...they were tiny! Who is supposed to see that??

WOA - I think they have detectors that detect them if that makes sense!
DH had one of those at one point....he bought it at Sears in the U.S.A :rolleyes1
