I just ran for the first time after over a week of not running. It was hot (I need to get up earlier and go before it starts to get hot) and it felt hard. I hope if I can get out there every other day that in a week or so I feel back to where I was before.
I did 23 minutes and 1.9 miles.

Allyson, thanks for starting the thread this month!
I'm currently away on vacation so I'll post my miles and hours when I get a chance back home. Hopefully we can rally our existing Herc's and maybe get a few new players to bring the team morale up a bit.

Hi Allyson, Leana and the rest of the Heroes. I have a new player coming over. Disneyrunningnut, who is training for a December marathon.
Leana I have asked Scott, ScoJo15, to contact you with instructions on how to do the spreadsheet. Why don't you have him give Alyson access also so she can help you?

Welcome David. I enjoyed reading your story. I to had let myself get out of shape and put on way to many lbs after retireing from the Air Force. I switched to walking after a running injury.
I know you will enjoy the team. They are a fun good group.

Welcome David and Linda! Glad to have you here!
Basically you count miles and time. If it is during a race it is doubled (both miles and time). Cross Training does count as well so log time for things like that.
Some people post each time they do something. I like to do that just to keep track for myself. But basically the captains were counting the weeks as Saturdays through Fridays. And so people would post, say today for instance being Saturday July 5, they would post their totals for Saturday June 28 - Friday July 4.
The Captains would take the totals and enter them in on the spreadsheet.
Am I forgetting anything teammates?
Linda so great to see you! I kind of let my training journal fall by the way side. Too many places to post, too little time. Life is good though. We had a week in Maine that was fun and I have a solo Disney trip coming up in August!
Have a great day out there folks!

WoW:dance3:
I started training a little differently this year, I go by time in motion instead of higher miles. I did this because I was missing the stretching and strength training. So if I have an hour to exercise I'll do 30 min of walk training and then 30 min of cross training with no break between. So far this is working well. But closer to the marathon I'll be upping the miles. I won't be cutting the cross training though just adding more miles to it.

Hi teammates!
Sorry to have been absent for a bit, but Tuesday and Friday were holidays for us here so I was away, visiting my folks in Kelowna, BC for the week. I kept up with my workouts though, logging my 15 and 16 mile long runs, a couple of mid-week runs and two trips to the pool.
Since both Duckie and Dana have been absent for a bit Dave asked if I would help to lead Herc's Heroes. I can attest that the challenge has motivated me to get a workout in when I didn't feel like it, so I really am thankful for the challenge.
For all the new folks, we did start logging weeks as Saturday - Friday, just because the challenge started Feb 1, and that was a Saturday. Personally, my workout week runs Monday - Sunday so I've always reported my totals that way since it made the most sense to me. Feel free to log your week as you want though.
Running, walking and biking count towards your miles and your minutes count. Any other crosstraining goes towards your minutes count.
Races count for double miles and double time.
If you have any questions then feel free to PM me, or post it on the thread and any of the teammates can help out.
And just in case you guys are wondering a bit about me...I've been running fairly steadily for two years now, although I did start running several years before that. I guess running and I had commitment issues before that! I am all about races - they definitely motivate me to keep going and to push myself. I'm currently training for my first triathlon on August 10th and the Quebec City Marathon on August 24th. I'll also be running the Disney full in January.
Good luck everyone!

I had been doing a 6R/2W but tonight moved to a 3R/2W. I am going to use the Bingham R/W Half plan for training come fall and it starts with a 3/2 so I thought I'd try doing that now. I think what I really need to work on is a better selection of music on the iPod. If it is a good song I can push and keep going, if not I find myself dwelling on how much I want to stop. I think I need to fill this thing with some good songs I really like!

Good week Heroes!
I just came in from 2.4 miles in 27 minutes, the fastest I've ever gone! I guess I have to give credit to Rihanna. I have a really old iPod Shuffle and when I was messing with it earlier I thought I loaded some songs on it but in fact had only loaded one. So I listened to Rihanna's "Don't Stop the Music" over and over and over and I guess it helped me pick up the pace! LOL!

6.5 miles

Re:Wii Fit
I like it alot! I don't use it enough but would like to get in a routine of doing it on the days I don't run. I really think it is a helpful thing and it is fun! I unlocked the Advanced Step exercise yesterday and broke a sweat doing it!

Linda, great job on the running and biking!
disneyrunningnut 70.3 miles last week? :worship: That's super impressive!
As for me, boot camp was cancelled due to inclement weather, which considering we were under a tornado watch was fine by me. I made it to the pool for 1000m this morning. May get in a bike ride this afternoon...we'll see...long run scheduled for tomorrow.
Be sure to post your weekly totals for me. You can post on whatever day your workout week ends, be it Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Have a great weekend!

Angela - It all depends on what you think you might want to do with your bike. If you have any inklings of triathlon in the back of your head, skip the mountain bike and go for a road bike. A mountain bike is best if you plan on riding trails. If you want a more all around kind of bike, then look at hybrids (you can put road or mountain tires on more of a mountain frame), but bear in mind you probably wouldn't want this for a road race/tri/du. I'm pretty happy with my road bike. I can race with it, and it also is great for commuting in to work as well. Next year I'm hoping to do a 3 day charity ride!
Once you know what your intended use is going to be, then check out your local bike shop and they can show you what they have in your price range. Try them out and see what fits you the best. Bike fit is such a personal thing, just like running shoes. Also, it will take you a couple rides to get used to your saddle. Do not despair!
Good luck!

Hello everyone!
I've been gone from these boards for quite awhile. I'm still having a few issues with my knees, but I've started working with a trainer and am starting to see some improvement.
That being said, I've decided to start training for a local 1/2 marathon in Oct. The YMCA is offering group training starting tonight, so I will be leaving for that soon. It does start out slow, but when I look at the training chart, it makes me hope that I can walk after next week.
Wish me luck!

Hi Everyone,
I'm so glad to be here! I really need the motivation of a Disney reace to keep moving. I just finished my first Minnie marathon with my sister and hope to move onto a half in January 09 or a full in January '10 or maybe a 1/2 triathalon... I injured my IT band before the Minnie (but I finished the race!) and am just coming back from resting it now... I think it's so funny that I am in herc's heros - I just added his song to a slide show for our minnie marathon trip:

I am happy to report I'm back to some form of exercise since my surgery. I walked a whopping FIVE MILES this past week! :lmao:
I walked a mile Monday thru Friday and did OK. Next week I think I'll be crazy and move up to two miles a day.
Doc keeps saying every week I see him in a couple weeks he'll probably clear me to start some running, so we'll see! Maybe soon I can start running a minute or two throughout my walks.
Walks are going OK, right thigh is still numb from surgery and burns when I walk. Old quad injury hasn't acted up yet.
Still on for the January Half. I would like to be running, but it is looking like I'll have to do a walk / run program. I have had complications with my surgery and it is looking like I'll need revisions done right after the Half. :sad2:
Still, I'm happy to finally add anything to the Herc totals, although pretty small.

As for what to post, if you keep track of the miles and minutes that you spend doing activities then post about them here. You can post every time you do something. At the end of your training week post your totals for me and I'll record them in our spreadsheet.
Running, walking and biking count for both miles and minutes of credit.
Aerobics, weights, any kind of cross training you can think of, count for minutes.
Races count double miles and double minutes.
Umm, I hope that's clear, but if you have any questions you can let me know.

On my last week (the 28th) I had another 3 miles/40 minutes. Those don't seem to be included in my last week totals on the sheet.
Thanks!

I don't know if you got me for last week, but it was -
5 miles / 1:35:00
This week -
10 miles / 2:55:00
Next week I'm gonna try to run for the first time since my surgery. Wish me luck, cause I'm scared! :scared1:

Hi - here is my first post of miles/minutes, etc.
Week of July 28-July 31:
Running: 7.5 miles/85 minutes
Spinning: 60 minutes
Weight Training: 120 minutes
I'm ran 90.9 miles during the month of July and expect quite a few more in August since I'm doing 2 1/2 marathons and have a 20 miler to look forward to in the next 31 days. I actually have tracked all my workouts since the beginning of the 2007 but I'll spare any more details.
I ran 3.5 miles today and have 10 miles scheduled for Sunday.
Happy training...
