We got a scooter yesterday! Long story short - we paint cars for local auto dealerships, and we worked out a trade yesterday with one of them that sells these scooters!

It's 250cc, gets 80 mpg, and will go 75 mph.

DH already has a motorcycle endorsement, so he can drive. I'm going to take a class and get my license sometime this month.

We're going to drive it up to WDW for Labor Day weekend! :thumbsup2 Not staying at the Fort though - we wouldn't have room for all our stuff!

Wow, that's some scooter Rhonda. My DS just bought a used Honda Spree. He takes it to work. It goes a whopping 35mph. If he wouldn't have bought it I would have. It is really cute and uses no gas especially when you compare it to my conversion van. Have fun with it and be careful.

I had one very similar a couple of years ago. After a small case of road rash, I sold it. Have fun, but be careful. Most people think a scooter, you won't get hurt on that, well, my elbow, knee, calf and ankle show that you can. That is what I get for wearing shorts! Anyway, don't want to scare you, just be careful.

Awesome- and 80 mpg too. I rode 2 wheelers growing up, but DH doesn't want to worry about me on the rode, so we never bought one. Enjoy & be careful. Love the helmet! :yay:

I'm more worried about those big flying cockroaches hitting me in the face, than a little heat!

PanFanAl - I'm too afraid to wear shorts on it. I'm pretty sure I'll be wearing some type of long pants. :)

Cool scooter Rhonda. :thumbsup2

I drive a Honda Metropolitan, it only does 40 but our speed limit is only 25 here so that is ok. It holds a gallon of gas and I get about 100 miles out of a tank. It is awesome! Fun too!

Being a fellow Floridian and a former motorcycle owner/rider... keep yourself on double alert when riding. The old people here just do NOT see motorcycles! Last night when DH was coming home from work he was held up by an accident where a Lincoln made a hood ornament out of a Harley.

DH would like to have another bike, but I am against it!

Rhonda...we love you & I think your new bike is one sweet ride, but please, please, be careful!!!

I know what you mean about the.....ahem.....age challenged....people down here. We drive a big white Dodge pickup with a big white topper on it. You can't miss us coming down the road! Well, they will pull out, and take a right, right in front of us and make us slam on our brakes! That happens almost every day! :sad2:

Always ride with the brights on....day and night. Id also suggest removing the baffles from the exhaust so you'd have an audible element, but being that its only 250cc, it probably wont make too much of a difference. Ive always been a believer that loud pipes save lives.

Congrats Rhonda! I sure wish I still had my Honda 250cc run around town jobber. I sold it when I moved back to FL because I was afraid of being a hood ornament of a Lincoln. The oldies but goodies really don't see you! Deb is right, please be careful!

Years ago (we were in our 20's) DH had a KZ1000 (loved that bike). On his way to work one morning a lady made a left turn right in front of him!! He had to dump the bike to keep from hitting her. Now, get this.... she stopped to see if he was okay (just a little bruised - but otherwise okay). This gal was probably in her 40's & said she was on her way to the hospital to see her son who had just been in a motorcycle accident. Rick (who is normally calm and cool) got in her face and said, "Did ya think he was lonely and needed some company???"

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr yup I sure believe it! One of my buddies is a former patient of mine! He and his GF were riding and a Lady was on her cell phone and ran though a redlight...didn't see it or them! Now he has a permanent limp after TWO surgeries.I decided to sell my bike after that...my reaction time has slowed down the last few years and :rotfl: I've developed a severe allergy to asphalt!!!!!!!!!I miss my Harley every time I hear one but I have a lot more living I want to do and i seem to be getting more patients all the time from MC accidents...I'll just drive the truck!! Sniff Sniff!

Nice ride, Rhonda. From another scooter rider, let me emphasize the safety. Never go without the helmet, always wear long pants, heavy boots, good gloves with knuckle protection, and an armored jacket. No kidding. If you flop it, every piece of exposed skin will be gone and left on the asphalt. Always assume the cagers can't see you and are trying to kill you if possible. I have approached intersections when I actually made eye contact with the car driver and they still pulled out in front of me. Keep away from parked cars - a suddenly opened car door can be fatal. I would suggest replacing the road runner horn they always put on with a Freeway Blaster. It's only about 20 bucks at Pep Boys but makes a world of difference. The MSF course is a great idea. I have a friend who is an instructor. Have fun!

Rhonda, nice scooter. Follow Jim's advice. It will save you. I always wore full gear, even on 100 degree days here in Dallas. The one time that I went down was a low speed accident not involving any other vehicle, but had I not been wearing my gear I would have ended up a lot worse than the ankle full of hardware I ended up with. The severe scuff marks on my helmet and jacket indicated the injuries could have been a lot worse.

I agree about the safety thing. You always have to be watching out for the other person. People are all the time pulling out in front of me. I don't know why they can't pay attention. It is white and BRIGHT green for pete sake and has a headlight on. There has actually been several fatalities on motorcycles in our area the past few weeks. Sad. :sad2:

Be safe and have fun!

Since were sharing our new toy gas savers I thought I would add my new family member. She gets about 45 mpg if I keep it under a hundred. It's a 2001 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail.

I'm jealous i would love a scooter or some kind of motorcycle but DW says no way when i go to work (7 minutes away) there is hardly any traffic at 6:30 am and i go home early 3:00 pm so i don't hit the rush hour on either side well guess i'll have to keep on tryingmaybe she will give in yet

Hey Rhonda, How's the scooter going? Gotta be a lot of fun getting around on one.

Another safety tip (probably a little late seeing your original post was about a week ago), but watch out for manhole covers in the middle of intersections. Seems that they are always in the worst possible location as you try to accelerate through the corner in a 4-way, and they are very slippery when it rains. I learned that the hard way when 16 and thinking I was bullet proof (yes, they had motorcycles that long ago :rotfl2: )
