Got this news item from the radio --
http://blog.mlive.com/annarbornews/2008/08/big_mistake_wife_sells_dvd_cas.html
The poor guy was trying to stash away money in a DVD case for a surprise Christmas trip to WDW for the family - he had saved up 1,200 dollars!
Then his wife sold the DVD at a garage sale! :scared1:
Now she's reporting it to news agencies to see if she can recover the money - it will be interesting to see how this pans out.
That is incredibly sad :( I hope someone turns in the money (fat chance I know but maybe if they hear what happened they will do it!)
From what I can tell it will only be about $50 extra to do DDP, considering that we will not be paying for any meals OOP.
What does a girl do?:confused3
I'd pay the $50 bucks seems like the most reasonable cost effective thing to do! Good luck!

I love all this Christmas talk!! :santa:
Looks like I will only have to buy half the gifts I usually buy for the kids! We usually sign about half of their gifts from us and half from Santa. So since they will be getting the trip from us, that only leaves Santa gifts!! Which is good anyway, they already have TOO much stuff!! :rotfl:

I ALWAYS overbuy and they get WAY TOO much stuff. I'm going to try as hard as I can to NOT buy as much. I LOVE Christmas and the best part is watching the kids open their gifts and get excited about what's from Santa. But they can never play with it all so I have to cut down on what they get especially since we are going to WDW just a few weeks after.
I'm already thinking about what to buy everyone else in our family. I hate to last minute shop (dh always does :rolleyes1 ) so I like to get everyone done and have it all figured out by November that way I can enjoy the season rather than scramble around trying to figure out what to buy.

Those poor people!! That happened about ten minutes from were I live. I wish it had been me who bought it so I could return it!
As for Halloween, my girls haven't talked about it too much. They both said they want something scary. I will have to see what Target sells this year and hopefully buy there with my discount. We have already told everyone Christmas is going to be "light" this year. With Disney 16 days after, we need every penny we can get! Plus my DH is taking a buyout from Ford to go back to school full time. Scary :scared1: what might happen!!
My DD4 had her back to school physical today and the poor thing got 4 shots! Now she is running a fever. So we are chillin today. Might make some cookies. And I think I am going to customize/order my maps. Any one do that yet for this trip?? I did it for our last one. They make nice souvenirs. Well I am off to make some lunch!!

I am an early Christmas shopper too!! Actually I am usually started by now. Nothing yet this year though except the Disney shirts and sunglasses I got last month. I guess I'm too preoccupied with Disney planning to think about Christmas shopping. We have never gone to Disney so early in the year before!

I love the Christmas talk too!!!! Well, thanks for clearing that up about the ddp--yes we have the regular--I was about to panic.!! So,now I just need to decide what days for which parks and make those ressies!! Since we are having our first park day on the 25th, I am still okay-got today and tomorrow to get it down on paper and check it out--I want to do this once and not be floundering!!!
I asked this on another thread & haven't checked it yet. Where can I get all the parade times? I went to the site for the calendar and it was only park hours.Ex--spectromagic, wishes,,,,where are these listed?

I love Christmas too! And this year we'll be able to celebrate with our family back in PA for the first time in 4 years! I'm extra excited about that!
My kids get 3 gifts, like Baby Jesus. That makes shopping easier for us. They get lots of stuff from family and friends, so they are never disappointed. They also get a stocking from Santa. This year I'm going to be making some pictures t-shirts for our trip, and I'll wrap those up from us. Last year I made them a Quillow (fleece blanket that folds into a little pillow) from me and Scot. And since my mom is bankrolling the Disney trip, she won't be buying them anything else.
I did hear a rumor that my little sister is getting them a Wii. Hopefully she follows through on that. I'd love a Wii!:lmao:
American Girl dolls are something we have no experience with. I remember the books from when I was small, but we've heard nothing about them. I just looked on the website. :scared1: I don't think my girls will have one. Hopefully they are not big in central PA yet!

I have heard of people doing that. The 3 gifts really make sense and would probably make the focus of Christmas more about the true meaning instead of all the presents! I wish I would have thought about doing that right from the beginning. Maybe once they don't believe in Santa we will do that. :goodvibes

My daughter was 5 when she decided she wanted an AG. There was no way we were buying one, so we told her to save her money. Well that same week we went to a street fair here in town and she won 20.00! That really spured her on. It took her about 9 months to save up and she bought her own doll! Now she wants everything to go with it! :) Luckily my mom sews so she has made her clothes and my daughter is not old enough to know it wasn't really from AG.
This Christmas we are really really down playing presents. They will each get a digital camera to use at WDW. Because those are spendy they won't get much else. But I really did not want to buy a bunch of useless disposable cameras again this year. Too many wasted pictures.
It will be hard for me. We don't buy the kids much through the year so I usually buy A LOT at Christmas. But this year I need to try to stick with my original goal!!! SO HARD for me.

I'm in need of some DDP advice. We've never used any of the DDPs. We aren't much for sit down restaurants with a 4 yr old and 1 yr old :scared: And we are going cheap so we are doing only 2 character breakfasts. Has anyone heard anything about the Quick Service Dining Plan or looked into it yet?

Peaches, where in Central Pa is home? I am in the Poconos and spend my weekends in Wellsboro.

A Wii would be so cool...I always say I won't be buying my kids those types of things :rotfl: yet we buy the AG dolls :rolleyes1 I do notice it is really big in places that are closest to the stores (although online shopping is really big ofcourse too). I have some friends that have only heard about the dolls through me because they don't live in CA, Chicago, or NY.

That's cool that you made her save up for her own doll. What a great lesson for her to learn at such a young age. I try very hard to teach my kids that although we are blessed to be able to afford some of the nicer toys and such not everyone is. We have them help us pick out of their toys to donate at Christmas along with getting new toys for toys for tots. I think its humbling for kids to understand that not everyone is as fortunate as the next.
That's nice that your mom sews! The outfits are soooo expensive. I usually look for the monthly specials and get them cheaper and save them up for christmas or buy some on ebay.
Digital cameras will be cool for christmas! I bet they'll love them! It's always hard for me to stick to my goals too...I'm also going to try really hard this year since we'll be going to disney soon after.

We were considering doing the QSDDP and then paying OOP for 2 TS meals. When I figured up the prices it was going to basically cost the same to do that as it would to do the regular DDP. So we went with the regular DDP and we will have 6 TS meals.
If you are going to mostly do CS meals, I think it is cheaper to pay OOP.

From the way I figure it, the QSDDP is a deal for my son- 2 CS meals and 2 snacks a day for $8.99 but for the adults price I think I will probably only break even. I'm not sure if the cost of food has risen in FL lately. I guess I should look up the menu's and do a run down of both ways OOP vs. QSDDP. :teacher:

Hi everyone! I've been pretty absent today. The Christmas and AG talk sounds like fun! I'm getting Belle the Bitty Baby for Christmas this year.
Peaches- (I think it was you) that suggested the three gift idea. That is one of the best ideas I have ever heard and I'm going to talk to DH about it tonight. We may start that tradition with DD this Christmas. :goodvibes
I found out that upgrading to the Deluxe Dining Plan was $80.00 cheaper than booking an extra night at WL (plus we won't have to pay for anything OOP)!
I'm so exciting about making new ADR's. I'm going to suprise DH with a night at Cali Grill and book another signature dining, as well. Any suggestions?

Boy I have a lot to catch up on around here......Adr's can be made again on Aug 31st, Halloween and Christmas:scared1: Oh my..... Time is a flying.....
And Ouch! All the Halloween talk has me hyperventilating, I have scripts to learn, costumes to air out or dry clean, makeup kits to go thru and check supplies and that is just for me...... See Halloween is not just one day a year for us more like 24/7. DH and I are actors/staff for a Nationally renowned haunted attraction here in Western Pennsylvania. This will be our eleveneth season with the haunt. DH is a magician and guess what.......we even own a hearse. :rotfl: You ought to see the looks I get when I drive it to the grocery store. Her name is Leota Tombs after the Haunted Mansion.
So wish us luck, as we hope to have a very big year with extra promotion and the Horror Host TV show we also do here and show on Western PA cable.

I'm not that crazy about it either. I have no kids to dress up - although I do have a puppy I'm tempted to dress up as Little Rascal's Petey [he looks just like him without the black circle around his eye]. The only problem is that he [a 100+ lb American bull dog who is 14 months old] would turn our tame church harvest festival into a tower of terror! :scared1:
My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving - don't have to dress like anything or even buy presents!
Back on topic, I ordered the Unofficial Guide from the library - looks like a lot of fun to read. Someone asked [because this is probably the 8th or 9th WDW guidebook I've gotten!], 'you're really into planning that Disney trip, aren't you! You're not going until when, January?!?!?!?'
It's a little embarrassing to let others see my WDW-planning addiction...
Had no idea that Katiebugsmom was a celebrity - zowie!

To answer something Sharadoc asked quite a few pages ago [if any of us were planning to do something special such as a tour] -
I have been thinking about it and wanted to get everyone's opinion.
Here goes:
There's a bunch of us going together from Jan 23-26. On the 27th, there will just be two of us grown-ups hanging out at the parks. Should we [both first-time Disney-ers] try to take a tour? Both the EPCOT Segway tour and the Keys to the Kingdom tour sound wonderful. Or should we, major theme park ride buffs, go to Universal for the day? There's a special deal - tickets to US and IOA for one day with shuttle from WDW thrown in for free. Or should we just take our time and go back to our favorite spots in WDW?
The deal for Universal ends by Oct 1 so I have a few weeks to think about it. I definitely want to make reservations for whatever we do before we go - I hear those tours book quickly and US tickets are more expensive at the gate.
What do y'all Disney experts think?

Am I the only one who doesn't love Halloween?
Nope I'm right there with you. I make my dh take my kids trick or treating because I really am not into Halloween. We decorate the house ofcourse, hand out candy, and get the kids costumes but I don't make a big deal out of it. My daughters b-day is two days before so maybe because I'm always either preparing for or cleaning from a family party that I'm not more into it for my kids. It's never something I've been into though so I'm sure its just a carry over from my youth :confused3 MNSSHP does look fun though and I'm sure that would someday make a great b-day gift for my dd princess:

Your quote made me giggle! You said you don't make a big deal of Halloween, but you decorate, hand out candy and buy costumes. What would you do differently if you made a big deal of it? There doesn't seem to be much more for you to do. ;)

What is the price/benefit difference between the regular and the Deluxe plan? For a family of 5 (one kid is considered adult, so 3 A's and 2 k's) is it a hefty difference? We are on the reg DDP now and it came to about $140 per day. Which is good, because one TS at the world showcase, or CRT is gonna be around that. How many of you actually do the other one?

My DH turned 35 yesterday. His parents called last night to wish him a happy birthday and said to him that they are considering coming down to Orlando and -GASP- setting foot on property to watch him run. Plus, they'll actually consider staying on property. I don't think his feet touched the ground for the rest of the night after that!!
I'm not a big Halloween person, either. I stopped dressing up a decade ago and stopped being home a few years ago. It was fun in the last place we lived because the kids were so cute and really good with the "Trick or Treat" and/or "Thank you!". In our current neighborhood, I'm lucky if I get a grunt from the doorbell ringers. I think my current department goes all out, though, so we'll have to see. Maybe I'll just wear all green and call myself the Grinch that day. ;)
I really need to call and make that last lunch reservation. Of course, if the in laws do come, that throws our plans into total disarray. Maybe we won't go to Universal Studios this year, after all!! ;) Do you think I should make a back-up plan, in case we don't, if the inlaws are around? They're thinking they'd leave on either Monday or Tuesday after the marathon and they might want us to spend time with them on that Monday. I currently have us planned to go to the Magic Kingdom that day. Thursday would be US, so I could just add a second set of ressies for Thursday that mirror Monday's... and then cancel one set when the IL's make up their mind? (And maybe skip US and go to MK twice if they don't come? ;))

Maybe skip US this year since it is a special circumstance. It sounds like DH is thrilled his parents are coming and that this doesn't happen often.:) I know if my dad ever decided to come to DW with us, I would want to make the most of my time with him.

We have never been there for lunch before--it's suppose to be a lot better for character interaction than dinner. Which I can believe-the last two times the Fairy G was there-didn't do pictures, and the mice-they hung around so it was okay. But, at least dd can see somebody different this time. I think it's a good time of day as well---lets us get some rides in!!!
Now I can relax with this planning for a bit!

Maybe skip US this year since it is a special circumstance. It sounds like DH is thrilled his parents are coming and that this doesn't happen often.:) I know if my dad ever decided to come to DW with us, I would want to make the most of my time with him.
Happy Birthday to you DH!!!! :wizard: Did you do anything special?
I think you're right - we just need to wait and see if they actually turn up. They don't like people, they don't like crowds, they don't like flying on mass market carriers... so there's still a lot that could make them back out. :confused3
We didn't do much special for his birthday but we spent the evening just hanging out together. He picked his birthday place, we stopped for ice cream, we looked in some of his favorite stores, and watched some of his DVR'd TV shows (and I didn't even complain!! )

I think the Deluxe is $70-90 a day. You get three table services/counter services (it can be either), 2 snacks a day and a mug per person.
The benefit for us, is that it's just DH and myself and we like to eat.:rotfl:
We wouldn't take DD (toddler) to a Signature Dining, so we are making the most of it on our last trip alone. Our next trip with her (she will be 2), we will most likey just get the CS Dining Plan.

Just curious, how many of you are doing Disney this time with extended family? And how many of you have done it in the past? My mom is paying for our trip, otherwise it wouldn't be happening. She's excited to share this time with her grandkids and we're excited to have her. My sister hopes to join us for at least part of the trip. We were hoping my BIL and his family could join us too...but no such luck.:sad1:
Just curious if your plans involve extended family and if you've ever done it before.
Hope all is well is Disland! I just finished a big e-mail update to family and friends who support us from back home and I'm feeling beat! Not too much else on the schedule for today...dinner and getting the kids to bed. I hope to scrapbook some too!

We had a Grand Gatherings in 2004 with my family, my sister's family and my parents. This time we are going with my sister's family and my parents again. My dh's two brother's and sister and their families are coming down for part of the week and we are still trying to talk his parents into coming too. We have his dad talked into it but not his mom- which would be fine if she stays home IMO  ! We loved it last time. We did some stuff together and still separated to do our own thing so it worked out well.
Oh and I envy you having time to scrapbook. I'm so behind it pathetic!

Does anyone know how far ahead they have announced P&PP date in the past? Basically I'm wondering if because they haven't announced dates yet, the parties may not happen? I hadn't really considered going until just very recently, and now I'm really hoping they do have them in January!
And ADRs opening again on Aug. 31 would be very exciting! Now I need to re-visit my ADRs and make some final decisions! Some of the ones I made previously were the best I could do then, but now I may make changes. I got my 2009 UG yesterday, so I'm anxious to read the updated reviews they have, too.
I've felt kind of burned out with the planning lately, but the possibility of making the rest of my ADRs is perking me up again! :)

Peaches-
We did our last trip with my MIL and BIL and they are going this time, too! We are very close to them. They are both single and my BIL and DH are twins! They live 2 miles from us and we see them quite a bit. We spent nine days down there last time and we were together all the time. Things went pretty smoothly. There were a couple of times my MIL and I got a little snippy with each other, mostly it's over me wanting my kids to behave and her letting them do what they want. There was definitely some advantages to having them there. My DD2 couldn't ride the big rides so my MIL would stay with her while we rode. And we had connecting rooms at POFQ which was great. My BIL and I hit the EMH at DHS one night and my DH and I went to MK one night and DTD one night. The girls would fall asleep in our room and then the adults would hang out in their room. Plus that gave us two bathrooms in case the girls "HAD" to go. They paid for our trip last time. It was my MIL's gift to herself for her 60th bday, watching the girls for the first time in WDW. This time we are paying our own way. These are memories that are priceless. My MIL has some health issues and so these vacations are very important to us. I want my girls to have these memories with her. And my BIL is the most loving, generous uncle two girls could get! So hopefully things go as well for you guys!

Ah the wonderous maps!! If you go to disneyworld.com you should find the link for them. They are customizable. You can pick your favorites for each park. I did restaurants where our ADRs are and our must-do rides. Then you can print them at home and order them. I highly suggest ordering them, too. They come looking like a real map, on nice thick paper. They take 2-4 weeks to deliver so I wanted to make sure I got mine done wth plenty of time. I agree that they are too big and nice to take with us, but they make an awesome and oh yeah FREE keepsake!!! And Trixie, I think I did answer you, but who knows  I am in Dearborn, right outside Detroit. It's nice you have family in Ypsi so you have a 10-15 minute ride to the airport. Still looking at the QSDDP- we are on a major budget while we are there. I was looking at the Coral Reef or LeCellier possibly. Yeah I guess I'm crazy asking about something being reasonably priced at WDW- I just meant reasonably priced like not V&A and having to wear dressy clothes. We are going to breakfast at Crystal Palace- hopefully on his actual bday! We went there on our honeymoon and they made a heart on the table out of Mickey confetti for us- it was so sweet!
And ooh I need to check if I can order maps yet!!! Thanks for the reminder!

Just curious, how many of you are doing Disney this time with extended family? And how many of you have done it in the past? ~~Carrie
Well . . . let me tell you about our extended family visits. We've done two major ones. The first was back in 1998. The crew was my mom, dad, sister, her 2 year old son, my grandma, my brother, his girlfriend, girlfriend's younger brother, myself and my boyfriend. It went surprisingly well. We stayed off property and knew nothing about making reservations for table service restaraunts. We walked in to MGM and made ressies for Sci-Fi only a few hours before eating.
Our second BIG family getaway was a NIGHTMARE. It included Me, my hubby, DS(who was nearly 2), my brother, SIL, nephew 3, my sister, BIL, nephew 9, niece 6, SIL's parents, SIL's sister-hubby-niece 6-nephew 11-nephew 1, and DH's niece 14. We stayed on property but we all had different places that we wanted to stay. My sis and her family stayed at ASMovies, My brother and SIL's clan stayed at CBR and DH, DS and I stayed at the Poly. DH's niece lives in Sanford and just stayed with us a few nights. It was impossible to please everyone. I somehow became the "leader", as I knew the most about Disney. My sister, whom I love dearly, was afraid to navigate anything on her own for fear of getting lost. DH and I felt tied down because we couldn't move without several people in tow.
When we decided to go back to Disney for a real trip, we made the concious effort to make it so that it was just the three of us.

I actually have done an extended family trip before. My parents did pay for the whole thing, then. Many many years ago, my mom "promised" us that if my grandfather's house ever sold (which relied on a number of things, including my uncle not being a maroon and my grandfather willing to move to a smaller place for just him), she'd take us to DisneyWorld. I didn't think much of it and had no intentions of forcing her to keep that promise.
I went to college. I graduated. I got married. I moved to Michigan. My grandfather's house finally sold. My mom took us (my mom, my dad, my brother, myself), my husband, and bro's then-gf to Disney, as promised. It was great - we met for meals but otherwise usually split up during the day.
It'll be much the same this January, as I'm sure my parents are hitting the parks on Saturday, while DH and I will futz around with marathon pick-up stuff. Sunday, DH will go to sleep, and I'll go hang out with my parents. No idea what we'll do with the in-laws, if they're around. Since we're planning to go to Epcot, we might be able to drag them along!

Good Morning Snowbirds!!
How are all of you this morning? Or evening--for those overseas!!?
We are up checking the weather detail--gotta track Gustav!!! I am praying it doesn't come here!!! I think the mountain range of Mexico is best---mountains to break it up, less homes and people to be in the path of destruction.---Or so they say. Any way, they will know more Sat afternoon/early Sun a.m. Hotels all the way up toward Dallas are already getting booked up!!!! My parents are up there, so we could go there, but shoot, I told DH that if we left, might as well go on to ARK or Tenn and have a whole vacation. When Rita hit, we were out of power in our area for over 2 weeks.So.......
Being an obsessive vacation planner, you'ld think I had all this ready....NOPE. I guess it 's sort of like sticking your head in the sand. I just don't think about it~!We will decide this evening what to do. There are so many variables with Gustav right now-I don't want to panic and be stuck on the highway with people who really NEED to evacuate.
On a brighter note.....this is the last Friday of the month, which means some of you will soon be in the 3 month range!!!!:cheer2: for you!!!Do we have a QOTD?

Hi, I'm in Central Texas. When Rita hit we were vacationing in the Corpus Christi area and they were evacuating all the animals out of the aquarium but it didn't hit there. My DH's grandma had to be evacuated out of a nursing home in Beaumont where it did hit. It was so strange because we didn't even know where she was for a while.

Things are starting to get busy here in North La. Lots of evacuees headed this way. My baby sis was planning on moving to NO on Monday and her landlord called and canceled the move for now. (Inside, I'm very relieved. I don't want my baby sis moving to NO by herself!)

My dh's sister, her dh, and possibly their 3 kids but they are all high school/college age so I don't know if they all 3 are coming or not.
And we are still trying to talk my dh's parents into going. His dad would love it- he's a big kid. His mom would complain through the whole vacation so I'm okay if she chooses not to come.
Gonna be fun!!!!!!!! I gotta start counting weeks b/c it sounds better than months:yay:

Our first trip to WDW will be:
Me: 28
DS: 31
DS: 23
They are still having a hard time believing i'm really treating them to Disney, though with each payment I make it is becoming more and more real to all of us. Brenda, the oldest, works so hard as a home health pediatric coordinator and makes just barely enough money to live on. My younger sister faces many health problems and is unable to work. This is a very special trip for all of us and will likely not happen again for a very long time, especially now that my school loan payments are about to start up!
We really can't wait! :cheer2:

Yay, a fortysomething, Laumau! I was feeling rather ancient.
We're not going as a family trip, per se -- this started as a trip with friends from church and we love each other like family. We are as follows:
Me [41 by then]
Friend David [41 - he's the one who had the idea to go to WDW in the first place - now I'm the one all excited about it!]
Friend John [42]
Friend Brandy [she will turn 26 while we're in WDW]
Her DH Daniel [25]
Brandy's DSis Cassidy [12]
Brandy and Daniel's DS [9 mos in January]
Back story:
I've known Brandy since before she was born. Her grandparents and parents and I have all gone to the same church for years and years. I taught Brandy in Sunday School from the time she was 7 until she was a junior in high school! [kept promoting myself to a higher level because I liked our little class so much] She was in our youth group when I was a leader and has since become one of my closest friends. I was so delighted that she married someone who loved our church - they're both so dear and now have the sweetest little boy.
Anyway, I know their lives will change as their family grows so I am so excited to have this opportunity to spend time with them.
It'll be interesting to see what happens with John [42] -- last time I went on a trip with him [to a wedding in FL], he slept the entire time! Like, maybe he made it to the wedding but not much else!
So, most of us are not related by blood but we're crazy about each other. Or maybe just crazy! :rolleyes1

08-29-2008, 02:28 PM
Ya know, for years everyone thought I looked much younger than I was - it aggravated me to pieces! Then, almost overnight, people started asking me things like - are these teenagers yours? [I was helping with the youth group at church but was still too young to be their mothers!] I had advanced several decades apparently. :scared1:
So, enjoy that looking younger thing as long as possible because it is really disconcerting when it changes courses on you.

Yay, a fortysomething, Laumau! I was feeling rather ancient.
:lmao:
Well, I think we win the age Olympics. Put it this way, DH and I went on our first trip to WDW in 1986, and we got married in 1987. I knew him for 6 years before we got married, so you do the math :scared1: I realize most of you were in diapers then :rotfl:
Anyway, here's our family
ME, Sharon (4x????), I won't grow up
DH, Mike (5x???), he won't grow up either!
DS, Shawn (13 with autism spectrum disorder/PDD-NOS and HUGE Disney Fan)
DD, Lauren (turns 8 during the trip)
Yes, I have been asked if she's my Grandaughter!!! Sometimes nature needs a little nudge and takes a little longer. DD was our last chance at conventional fertility - we were going in vitro next cycle. She was conceived on Good Friday in April 2000. Not quite a miracle baby, but close!
We've tried to convince my parents to join us, but they think it's all kid stuff and they wouldn't enjoy themselves. They've never understood why we went so often. I think the kids would love to have them there, but we can't change their minds.

We don't drink much, but once in a long while I will order a drink when we go out to dinner without the kids. . . I think it was last August I ordered a drink at Red Lobster and got carded!! :rotfl: I was 34!!! DH was like - did she think I was your father or what???!!! :lmao:

I have always looked young for my age. It runs in my family--my grandfather will be 80 in Feb. and people have a hard time believing he isn't a young 60-something.His wife is 55, so that helps too!! I have grandparents and aunts/uncles on both sides of that family who lived to be over 100!!! My great-granny died when she was 86 & her bro. and sis. thought it was soooo sad 'cause she was just a baby.!! They were way up in their 90s.!!!
I had my oldest at 21 and everybody thought I was about 13--people would ask (very rudely)...And how old are YOU!! When I said 21! They would say, oh, we thought you were a kid!! I still think I look younger than 34, but at least I don't look 15 with all these kids!!

Glad to know people share my pain!
The other day at the nail salon, someone commented on my "fabulous, fake" wedding ring and asked why I wore it. When I told her that it was real and that I was, in fact, a wife AND a mother and very much old enough to be both, she was extremely embarrassed.
My biggest issue is having people talk down to me and not value my opinion because they think I have the wisdom and maturity level of a 16 year old.
Getting of my soapbox now.....:)
It will pay off in the long run. My mom is 50 and very pretty and we can still share clothes. :goodvibes

Well here goes...
Me (22 next month)
DBF (22)
We still have a few years of school left between major changes and grad school. And since we both agreed that marriage is still a while off we thought this would be a good time for a vacation :woohoo: Good thing he loves me so much or there's no way he'd be going to Disney, he still thinks its for little kids. :sad2: I'm sure he'll grow to love it :p I plan on talking him into DVC eventually...:rolleyes1 I know I'll want to take my future kids, plus we could even go other places besides disney with the points :scared1:
So we have our plane tickets. I'm just praying airtran doesn't screw it up. I've flown with them before without problems but they have already changed times once. Anyway we're waiting to book our package for about a month. It will be my birthday present to me :goodvibes My tutoring job starts in less than 2 weeks and our loan money will be coming in at the end of September. I told my mom I wanted disney dollars for my birthday and christmas :rotfl:
So there's my whole story. I know I don't talk much but I sure ready every word and I feel like I know all of you!

I know, people always assume I'm still in high school. It's my round face and chubby cheeks... thanks dad! :rotfl2: People have actually refused to believe that I am in fact older than my 2 younger sisters who are 18 and 20. I got carded for a R-rated movie not too long ago. And when I went to grab some beer at a gas station the girl thought I was one of those tests they do to catch people selling to underage kids. Sometimes at the bar I get carded at the door then AGAIN at the bar because they just can't believe it :confused3 I know I should appreciate it but it sure can be frustrating!

Are you in ministry?
Yes! I was ordained as a ELCA (Lutheran) Pastor on June 1st after 8 years of college. Its amazing how all you want while in school is to get out, but once your out all you want to do is go back!
dklam
08-29-2008, 06:45 PM
Well, I don't get carded anymore, but I like to think that I don't look my age - LOL! (Let's just say that I can't believe I had a 50th birthday party a few years ago - Yikes:scared1:
Haven't been on here in about a week - but now DD is all moved back to college, school has started for me, but now have the long weekend before going back to work on Tuesday. Had today off, too, and spent a glorious 4 hours at the beach by myself!! Just plugged in the IPOD, read a magazine and book, and relaxed. DH was at work and I had the day to do whatever I wanted. It was nice!
Now, back to planning the last few ADR's that I haven't done yet, and I just added a ticker, so now it is getting me excited to see that we will be at WDW in just a few short months.:yay:
Have a great long weekend, everyone!

I know we discussed extended family yesterday, but I would like to know who everyone is traveling with on their upcoming trip to Disney. :goodvibes I feel like I'm getting to know everyone and I want to know what your trips will be like.
Our trip:
DH :goofy: (will be 40 and we will be celebrating the occasion at Disney)
Me princess: (27)
For the whole trip:
DH: 35
Me: 31 (now - will be 32+5 days, then)
For the marathon weekend:
Mom, Dad, brother (30), Mother-in-Law, Father-in-Law (I'm not going to give the parent ages - my parents are coming up on "sensitive" birthdays this year ;))
Glad to know people share my pain!
My biggest issue is having people talk down to me and not value my opinion because they think I have the wisdom and maturity level of a 16 year old.

I do take after my dad and I look MUCH younger than my 31. I'm often mistaken for an undergrad (I work on a college campus) by my faculty. I'd like to AT LEAST be mistaken for a graduate student.
But, in the whole talking down thing... my coworker, a lovely woman, is 23. She's tiny, she sounds young... and she was discharged from the hospital, after being sent to the ER by her doctor for extreme pain. The doctor scoffed at her, told her there's no explanation but it's not going to kill her, and sent her home. A few of us, who spent time advocating (and finally convinced her to get an advocate), know that if she'd just looked/sounded older that there was a better chance she'd have been taken seriously.
So it can be a real drawback at times to look so young.
And I just want to look as old as a graduate student! ;)

I didn't know we were all so close in age! Looks like we are all a bunch of 30-somethings! :rotfl: Except Bellasoleil is the baby in her 20's, lucky!! :goodvibes
the 30-something crowd! We rock!:cheer2: Well, I'm often mistaken for much younger than my years too. People see me with all 4 of my kids and think I'm babysitting. I don't know that I'd get carded anywhere (we don't drink so I have never had the experience), but I do know most people guess me for early 20s. It used to bug me when I felt I had to fight for some kind of respect. Now, I'll take the compliment and run!:rotfl2:
Somehow in my mind I'm still in my early 20s. I've often said I stopped growing at age 21. Don't know why. :lmao:
And I love that Disney allows the kid in me to just come out! No apologies!
So, anyone have a question of the day?

And also, add me to the 30 something club!! I turned 33 on the 4th of July! The rest of the crew is:

DMIL- well, I have some common sense
I get my age underestimated as well. People put me at about 25-27. And that is fine with me!! I will do a question of the day if no one minds. It's 4 am here in Detroit and I am leaving for a work in a minute.
QOTD- Who is your favorite Disney character and why??
My answer- Cheshire cat because he is mischevious.

Boy a favorite character is really hard. I am going to sound really blasphemous now but I don't like cartoons/characters very much. Not even as a child. I love Disney because of the magic and rides. I have always liked Peter Pan the movie and all the characters in that, especially Tink. Lady and the Tramp as well!

Has been and will ALWAYS be the Mickster! Yes, LAdies! I am in love with the Main Mouse himself! I have had passing fancies with a certain bear of very little brain, a flying fairy and a certain lady duck, but Mickey will always be the one for me! Why? Because HE is the one that started it all! :)

We are going in January too. The 17th thru the 24th. We are staying offsite for the very first time and we are staying at the Caribe Cove Resort in a 3 bedroom condo, I just couldn't get over the $99 a night price so we jumped on it. It will be me, DH, DD and my mother so the 3 bedroom works perfect for us. We have never been in Jan--we usually go in May or Dec so this is all new to us =)

My favorite characters are Dopey and Sebastian. I love Kiss The Girl! Little Mermaid is a favorite.
I Little Mermaided it once in the swimming pool while on a family vacation. You know, singing Part of your World and trying to reenact the hair toss and dramatic water splash against the rocks while Ariel looks longingly at the shore? Yeah...I told my little sister I was going to do it, came out of the water with all the fanfare, lost the top of my suit and flashed an unsuspecting lifeguard!:rotfl2: I was 19 and mortified. I scrambled to reassemble and fled from the swimming pool area. Nevermind that I had previously been singing Little Mermaid songs at the top of my lungs. No, that wasn't embarrassing at all!:rolleyes1 Yep. I'm smooth.
And I always thought Aladdin's voice was dreamy. :rotfl:

I scrambled to reassemble and fled from the swimming pool area. Nevermind that I had previously been singing Little Mermaid songs at the top of my lungs. No, that wasn't embarrassing at all!:rolleyes1 Yep. I'm smooth.
Oh nooo! Yep I used to do the same thing only sans water in the privacy of my living room :rotfl2: Ariel's my favorite princess but tinkerbell is probably my favorite character.
Hey, has anyone booked over the internet? I know there's a difference in terms, but what's the advantage to calling CDO over booking online? :confused3
Also, I'm trying to decide between Tutto Italia and Chefs de France, any advice?

I have always booked online until this time. And this time I only called because they weren't talking online bookings for 2009 yet when I made my room only ressie. I prefer to book online because then I am in charge and I can put in the room request myself and be sure it is right!! The advantage to calling is that you can ask if you have a code/discount attached to your name. But generally you already know if you do or not because you would get that offer in the mail or email.
Sorry, never been to Tutto or Chef de France. :confused3

Somehow in my mind I'm still in my early 20s. I've often said I stopped growing at age 21. Don't know why. :lmao:
And I love that Disney allows the kid in me to just come out! No apologies!
So, anyone have a question of the day?

Gillettes--Hey--I was 34 on the 25th!!! July is such a good month:laughing:
As for the QOTD.... I love Cinderella, and Snow White--Mary Poppins--Alice--Tink--Peter Pan & Wendy & little Michael(actually married one:cutie: ). It's tooooo hard to pick one!! I must say since Belle came along I had to add her to the list because she's a book worm just like me!!
Also, Pinnocchio, Gippeto, Jiminy Crickett..... Once on main street we saw the aforementioned, did autographs, and then I went into the picture place, next to Tony's. Gippeto came in and kissed me on the head!!!It was great!! My hubby said, well--good for you!! I was sooo excited--I had to remind myself I was grown---not 9!!!! I know I smiled about that all day!! It doesn't take much to make me really happy!!:cutie:

Hello snowbirds! Disney is going to be :crowded: with us in Janurary!
I feel like I haven't been on here in forever, probably because I haven't.
I have decided my DH and I will be staying at POR for our honeymoon so he can go fishing and I can force him to take a carriage ride! I have yet too book it b/c I am cheap and want to wait until November when hopefully they will tell be there is a super duper rate that I can use!
1/4 we will be doing behind the seeds, a tour I've wanted to do since I was very small!!!
1/5 we will be having breakfast at Kona
1/6 will be Boma dinner
1/8 will be Cape May dinner (yay for buffets!)
I am using these meals to introdue my DH to my two Favorite resorts and convince him they really are worth the money...:rolleyes1
We won't be doing to dining plan, so the rest will be CS and peanut butter crackers!
Answer to question fo the day: Figment!!!!!! Not Figzilla, he scares me, but figment with Dreamfinder. I always wanted to go to EPCOT first when I was little to see figment and ride his ride over and over again!:thumbsup2

Also... I just wanted to let everyone know that I bought Ariel's Beginning and it is great so far. I would suggest it for any Ariel/Princess/just a plain ole' Disney fan. ::MinnieMo

Today was my son's birthday party. A VERY LONG DAY.
Good news is that it went off without a hitch and he had a blast.
My favorite Disney characters. I would say that I have three.
Top choice is Mickey. Next would be Goofy and Mater. I love the silly ones, I suppose.
As for all of you people who don't look your age :worship: I look every bit of 40. Too bad I'm only 32. :lmao: OK, It's not THAT bad. I've not been carded in a very. long. time.

I ate at Chefs de France in February 2007. It was just one of my good friends and myself and the WHOLE trip we'd had MISERABLE service. Terrible, rotten, no good, very bad we didn't leave tips sometimes. We were thinking we were cursed. We got to Chefs de France, wary. Our waitress? Awesome. On the ball. We weren't rushed or ignored. Our food was great, there was a semi-decent view of the fireworks and we just had a really nice meal. it was the standout of that trip for all the good reasons (Big River Grille was the standout for all the bad reasons - bahahah!!).
As for favorite Disney characters? Belle! I'm a brunette (though I don't look good in yellow ;)) and I love to read and I always hoped for some magic in my life. My prince :lovestruc is a nice guy, but we started dating when he was a grad student, so it certainly wasn't for his money. :rotfl:

Hello Snowbirds,
Life has been busy but I finally caught up after 35 pages of reading. I am so happy to hear I can finish making the rest of my ADRs. I thought I would give them all to our travel agent to do in October but now I can do them all tomorrow. I made 2 before on my room only, so I will change those over to my package plan. Thank you all for posting the information here on this thread.
I loved seeing all the pictures. The last 2 times we went we thought we took enough pictures but after seeing all the trip reports, we know now how many opportunities we missed. Even though we are staying at the POP, we will resort hop one day and make certain to see the All Stars Resorts for all their photo opportunities. My son loves Toy Story. I have been practicing all summer with all our day trips to make certain I took lots of pictures. I want to get into the habit of seeing the moments but also capturing them. I have also practiced at one out of town restaurant taking food pictures. Yes, people stared and some even pointed but all in our party just laughed along with me, and no one said anything. I will not worry at Disney about taking food pictures. Luckily my DD and DS are not yet at an age where it would be too embarrassing for me to do this with them present.
I am getting worried about the rising prices of gas, since we will be driving. I am keeping an eye on prices but I still don't want to fly since we are going down for 13 days and the stuff we wish to take won't fit in one suitcase each. Plus all the great merchandise the children will want to take back.
One good thing happened this weekend. We have waited and waited to obtain passports since we are told we don't require them until June 2009 if we are going by car but we still thought it would be a good thing to have. My dad said he would pay for them for us. One less cost for us. Woo hoo. I hope to travel to the nearest city that has the passport place on Hallowe'en. My hopes are that not too many people will think to go there that day. One less thing to worry about for our trip. Thank you dad!
I too wonder if they will have a Pirate and Princess party in January. I check almost daily and still it says to keep checking back. That would be the icing on our Disney trip.
Keep up with your questions of the day. I love reading all the great responses.
I have a question (not question of the day) --Does anyone have a Pal Mickey? Do you think it is a good investment? Did your kids look at it again after Disney? Did it help you in the parks as much as you thought it would? We are thinking of buying one for the kids to share, since we will be going down again eventually so we thought we should maybe splurge this trip. Last time in 2006 we saw another family have one while waiting for transportation to MK. The little girl, I would say 7-8 was having great fun with it while it told her jokes or trivia. I am on the fence on buying one.

Bella Soliel and anyone else down in La --
how are things going with y'all? I have some friends who live in Metairie [20 min away from NO] whose weekend visit to Memphis for a wedding turned into an evacuation! We're planning to have some of their NO friends [40+] stay in family homes and at our church until Gustav leaves the area. A couple of the friends had to drive back down to NO tonight before the city was closed down so they could get their heavy-duty trucks out of the area - I pray that this isn't too hard for them to do with everyone else trying to leave.
I can't even imagine!

I live in northwest LA, so I'm clear from the actual hurricane. We are expected to get heavy storms on Tuesday and Wednesday. The govenor made an executive decision to close all schools until Thursday. We are really just getting loaded down with evacuee's in my parts.
I just read that it's downgraded to a Cat. 3, so hopefully it will continue to lose strength.

Hoping everyone in the path of Gustav (and possibly Hannah:eek: ) stays safe!!! :grouphug:
I was up late last night mapping out all of the park hours, extra magic hours, parades and shows during our week stay AND I called and made my last ADR for us too!!! So excited to check that off my list! :cool1:
We're still deciding on the QSDDP- need to do the math yet on that one:confused3 . We are trying to keep dining costs to a minimum so we are only doing two character breakfasts during our stay and that's it- Crystal Palace Jan 28 @ 9:05 and Chef Mickey's Jan. 26 @ 8:30.
So far Disney only has one attraction closed and unfortunately it's my mom's fave- Hall of Presidents. :sad1: She's disappointed and wants a discount on her ticket b/c of it :lmao:
Still crossing my fingers for some codes!!!

My family woke up early today, so I decided to phone Disney and finish all our ADRs. I spoke with a friendly CM called Tracy and I was able to book all the ADRs my family wanted and at the times we wanted. We are doing the basic dining plan, so we only had 13 table service choices to make. There seems to be so many good ones out there, I wish we could have fit more in.
We also signed up the kids for 2 of their Christmas presents. We booked them for the Pirate Cruise at the Grand Floridian and also the Alice Tea Party. Yes, my DD might be a wee bit old, but this is the last year for her to take part. We want to make this trip memorable for both.
My best wishes and prayers for all that are caught in the line of the hurricane.

:welcome: to our new January friends!!
Yes, we are looking forward to the cooler weather in January! I'm thinking we will be able to cover so much more ground when we are not all so hot and tired from the heat and humidity, even with the shorter park hours in January.
Are there usually a lot of rehabs/closures of major attractions in January?
We went for our 1st time the 3rd week in Jan 06. The weather was wonderful and the lines weren't bad at all. In fact, one night we went on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad 7 times in a row and one time we didn't even have to get off the ride! The only rides that were being refurbished as I remember were Buzz Lightyear and Test Track, but having girls, they really didn't mind missing those rides. We had several early character breakfasts and we needed fleece coats in the morning, but by the time we were done eating we took off our coats. My girls went swimming in our pool every night (as I sat in the chair with a coat on) and they didn't seem to mind the chill (heated pool!).
The one thing I felt we missed out on was the parades at MK - the lighted parade was only scheduled one of the nights we were there and we had reservations someplace else. I think we also missed out on seeing another parade because it was only scheduled for a day when we were at another park.
We're going in Nov 21-27 this year. I'm hoping it's not too crowded! I just couldn't justify taking my 8th grader out of school for too many days, so we're going to take advantage of the days off before Thanksgiving!

OK, I've been off the boards for a while, returning D to college. On the age question:
Well, I think we win the age Olympics. Put it this way, DH and I went on our first trip to WDW in 1986, and we got married in 1987. I knew him for 6 years before we got married, so you do the math
Nope, sorry - I think I win. We went to WDW on our honeymoon, and we got married in 1982 - Epcot opened two months after we left.
This trip will just be me (53 then) and D (19).

That will conclude the major players of the gastric wonderment of our next WDW vacation. :woohoo: There are MANY more CS and snacks that will be eaten during those 2 weeks. See you all there. I will have Pepto tabs, should any of you need them! Just look for the group of 8 laying across the park benches that look like this:  I feel full already, however, I doubt that will stop us!:yay:

My husband, yesterday, looked at me and said "For those of you playing along at home, we have 18 weeks to Disney."
:cool1:  :yay: :dance3: :cheer2:
Tomorrow's the first day of classes on campus, so it'll be CUH-RAY-ZEE and I've got some (fairly minor but annoying anyway) health issues.... so I'll just cling to the fact that it'll be LESS than 18 weeks when I get back to work! ;)

Shelly-
Here are the changes that I have made since switching to deluxe dining.
Jan. 7th-Dinner- California Grill
Jan 8th- Dinner-Artist Point
Jan. 9th- Breakfast- Cinderella’s Royal Table
I'm really not that excited about AP, so I may end up changing it before it's all said and done. I really wanted to do Jiko, but it's our last night and I think we will be too tired.

Coral Reef - 407-560-6636 or 407-560-0031
I didn't do the menu, just the sign. When I called I had to leave a message and then the manager called me back later in the day. Good luck! :wizard:
Oh, and it was FREE!
thanks for the phone number...my hubby and I are doing an anniversary trip (just the 2 of us) in October before our family trip in January. I want to do the sign/menu as a surprise.

Isn't it fun that we can all do ADRs for all of our vacation times. I was feeling a wee bit jealous of all of those that were not affected by that cut off time. I was so happy to see it lifted and was able to finish all my ADRs.
I am now feeling a bit apprehensive. I am the type of person that looks for the other shoe to drop. Thus far, knock on wood, all has been going good and quite smooth. One thing that seem to be on the fritz is my computer is freezing when I am typing emails. I would be up a creek without my computer. I think I would go crazy without DISing. Knowing my luck, that would be the time Disney puts out a fantastic discount code with limited time offer.
We need another question of the day and more pictures please.
Thanks Renny

Good day, Snowbirds!
Our January trip was actually originally scheduled for September 2-6. We should have been preparing for the long drive right about now.
I'm so glad that we changed our plans. We would be facing Hurricane Hanna had we kept our plans.
Hope anyone who is heading down now is able to stay safe.
Only a few more days and I will be able to say "4 more months!"

Wow I just looked at the long list and oh my there are a lot of snowbirds!!! However I'm a little sad no one else is staying at ASMo at the same time as my gang.:sad2:
And I thought I was done with my ADR's but was talked into 2 more:
Jan 27 Coral Reef for lunch at 12 noon (My dh's bday:bday: )
and Jan. 29 Hoop De Doo 5:00 show- Can't wait to see my kids with the spoons and washboards!!!:woohoo:
And my hubby says I am officially obsessed with WDW planning this far in advance- he just doesn't understand- if he only knew about the stash of stuff I've bought and hid already for the trip! :rotfl:
And I've been stashing some things for a little goody bag for the car ride to Florida- takes us two days. Has anyone done one before and if so any good suggestions of stuff to stick in the bags- my kiddos will be 23 months and 4 when we go.
I came up with these ideas so far: Disney coloring/activity book (or make one from printables) and crayons, Stickers, Candy and snacks, Sunglasses, Flashlights, Disney maps/Maps to Florida, CD of Disney music. Any other suggestions that have worked well or that your kids have liked?

We'll be at ASMo 1/21-1/28, it's absolutely our children's favorite. Our children were 25 months and 4 years old this past January when we were there. Good luck with the trip (Sorry for no tips on driving, we fly). It looks like you have a good start on activities to do. The Disney CD is a must!;)

I don't have any suggestions but I may take some of yours :rotfl:
My kids will be 5 and 3 (almost 4) when we drive down. Our garmin says 16 hours and yahoo driving says almost 18 :scared1: Probably will be somewhere in the middle but honestly we are going to drive as long as possible the first day (barring any weather we are hoping to make it 14 hours and if we really could do 16 to get there we'd probably try to do the whole thing). Lofty goals with two small kids but dh is going to come home from work, load the car, and go to bed. Then we plan to get up at 1ish and get the kids in the car to head out while they are still sleeping and the traffic is much lighter. Then in the morning dh will sleep while I drive. We have a dvd player in the car, we'll bring card games, coloring books, toys, etc. Anything we can think of that will entertain them. We will also have the small potty and food. All I need is to get caught in traffic when one of the kids (namely ds) has to go to the bathroom. We'll need the potty I guarantee it.
How long is your drive?

And I've been stashing some things for a little goody bag for the car ride to Florida- takes us two days. Has anyone done one before and if so any good suggestions of stuff to stick in the bags- my kiddos will be 23 months and 4 when we go.
I came up with these ideas so far: Disney coloring/activity book (or make one from printables) and crayons, Stickers, Candy and snacks, Sunglasses, Flashlights, Disney maps/Maps to Florida, CD of Disney music. Any other suggestions that have worked well or that your kids have liked?
First, I have had great success with wrapping each little item up and giving them at different intervals as a reward for good behavior. For our flight over here we had 3 kids under 5 and it worked well. Every hour I had another little item to give them if they had behaved well during that hour. They all earned all of their rewards.
Other suggestions are mini-etch-a-sketches and mini magnadoodles, matchbox cars, little keychain size stuffed animals (I even see these at the local dollar type stores here!), for a girl over 3, a small Polly Pocket set (I bought the older style ones on ebay for my daughter and she LOVES them!), those "smurf-like" hard rubber figures (for my kids, Dora the Explorere and Diego as well as Power Rangers worked well!), favorite treats wrapped up, etc. The wrapping part made it even more fun. And they were amused with their new item for the hour or so until the next item arrived. It really worekd well, and I'll be using it for our flight back to the US as well as our Disney trip.:thumbsup2 :hippie:
And Good Morning,Snowbirds! Have a great day!

Awwww, Shelly! I'm sorry that your little man has to grow up :( It's sad that it happens so fast. Just think, though. Only 7 1/2 more hours and he'll be hippty-hoppin off of that bus tell you what a great day he had!
My DS has open house for preschool tonight. Should be loads of fun!

Goodmorning to all og my lovely Dis friends! Well, Gustav has been ripping and roaring (I use those terms lightly) through my parts since early this morning. It is just so yucky out! All we are getting is heavy winds and drizzley rain. (Just enough to totally ruin and good hair day!) I'm so thankful that it wasn't nearly as bad as people thought and I am so proud of my state and it's leaders for the way things were handled this go round. I hope and pray that everyone south of me is doing well.
And now on to Disney talk.... let's have a question of the day.....
What is your ULTIMATE, FAVORITE, MUST-DO RIDE at Disney World?

Question of the day....
My favourite, ultimate, must-do ride at Disney World!? It's so hard to pick just one, but if I had to, I would say... Tower of Terror!! I just loved it!!
It'll be interesting to see if I love it as much this time! Rock'n'Roller Coaster comes a very close second though. Both rides make me giggle and scream at the same time!! :thumbsup2

I've seen it happen so many times - that first one goes off to school, Mommy gets a little sad, next thing you know - "let's have another one." Maybe a cozy January trip will help things along. ;) We could we welcoming Snowbird babies around September 2009 :cool1:

Sharadoc,
How funny that you mention that. We just walked DD7 up to school this morning for second grade. (Shelly- First grade goes by so fast and he'll be an old pro soon at staying all day.) Anyways, walking home with DD4 I said I can't believe next year we will be walking home alone :scared1: And my DH said, oh I am sure you will be begging to have another baby by then!!! Not going to happen, but it is tempting. I have an IUD so we could I guess but he just started back to school full time so money is going to be tight!
as for the QOTD-
I love POTC. for thrillers, I love RnR too!!
Have a great day!!

Hey, there, Snowbirds! It's supper time and I should be feeding my children. But, here I am!:rotfl:
Favorite ride? Hmmm...well, since the only time I was to Disney was in 1991, I have no idea what my new favorite would be. Favorite from that trip? The Great Movie Ride.
But I am a serious roller coaster junkie. We grew up next to an amusement park, Knoebels, and since it was free parking and free admission, we would go down and just ride the Phoenix, one of the top 10 wooden coasters in the country, over and over again!
I think I'm going to love RnR Coaster!
I also loved Peter Pan's Flight. And Space Mountain. And The Haunted Mansion. Pretty much everything!:cheer2:
Now, to feed my children and take down the laundry. Why does it feel like that is all I do everyday? Cook and laundry???:laundy:

AussieAngel- I have a feeling we are both going to be sick of eating by the time our trip is done!

Bella-I'm glad the storm isn't hitting you too hard! Try and send some rain to Indy, it's dry as a bone here!
I'm sorry to hear everyone's babies are growing up. I don't have any yet, but today I wish I was in elementary school. Graduate fees just cost too much money. :sad2:
Anyway here is my answer to the QOTD-
Splash Mountain, it's not WDW until I have see brear rabbit!
When I was little it would have been Journey into Imagination, but they destroyed it, so I don't like it any more. :sad1:
Anyway I better go to my GIS and Population ecology classes. Oh joy!

Still have not told dh about that yet :rotfl2:
Have a good day everyone.

I'm not sure about this Mindy. We have never done it. I know some people who ordered from Garden Grocer (I think that's the name) and they were happy with it!
What I usually do is fill one suitcase with food and snacks. Cereal bars, granola bars, bottled water, capri-sun, etc. That way we have an empty suitcase to bring home our souvenirs in!

How long is your drive?
I think it took us about 16 total from MD. We left around 4am and made it all the way to the Florida border by early evening and stopped to stay overnight. The next morning we only had a few hours left in our drive and made it to WDW by 10am. We're hoping to do the same thing this time but maybe leave a little earlier than 4am this year.
First, I have had great success with wrapping each little item up and giving them at different intervals as a reward for good behavior. Last year I gave the teacher notice at our first parent teacher conference. All I said was that sometime in Jan we would be taking Morgan out of school for about a week for our family vacation. We are very lucky that we live a very small village & her teachers know that I have my own business that goes off tourism. So we have to go when the season is off. I reminded them again at the first of the year. Our school makes the kids do their work before they leave & turn it in early. She had all her work done & turned in 2 days before we left.

We actually have to fill out a request for an "Educational Excused Absence" and have it approved before they are allowed out of school. I have to fill it out and explain all the educational aspects of WDW. I usually do it about 2 months before the trip. Not sure how I am going to pull it off this year being that the trip is a surprise for the kids. . . I wouldn't want one of their teachers to let it slip before Christmas. I will probably talk to the school secretary and see if she thinks sending in the request after Christmas vacation would be enough time. That would only be about 2-3 weeks before we leave though. :confused3

Hi all, I'm very excited for 2 reasons.
1. This is my first post!
2. My wife and I are booked at The French Quarter from Jan 14 thru 18th (132 days away!)
We went in Jan back in 2006, the weather was great, 70°s during the day and 50° at night.
I think Jan is one of those ideal months to visit Disney.

I have no kids so I can't relate to everyone's sadness or happiness. [One thing, Shelly, about both boys being in school is that you can plan your trip without worrying that little eyes will see you!]
I have never been to WDW so I can't answer the QOTD [but I am taking notes so that I will ride everyone's favorite - hopefully many times].
But I can understand the need to get into shape! Hot weather usually keeps me indoors so I've been keeping my walks as short as possible. I have a five month plan to add to my walking regimen, little by little, as it gets cooler, so WDW won't be such a shock to my poor flabby little feet. My puppy will love it!

I actually asked my DDs' teachers' opinions last spring before we committed to the trip, but I still would have taken them out, even if the teachers didn't want me to. DDs go to a private school, and I figure if I pay tuition for them to be there, I have the right to take them out when I want to.
The funny thing is that our friends are going the same week we are, and their kids have the same teachers as mine, so the teachers will have to prepare double early assignments. But their classrooms will be more quiet, too!
