I did a KLUTZ thing yesterday, droped one gal of the new paint, it fell outta the car when I got home, Lynn quickly got me the presure washer after I salvaged a good bit, and the pressure washer nozzel was clogged, life and lemons, Lynn again to the rescue, she took the hose and got it cleaned up I got the washer fixed and did the final touch up.
The new color looks better,
Connie, Sounds KEWL!!!
Alaska is great, I was there many years ago on an adventure, We are hoping DCL will head there in 2010.

Good morning everyone! I took Wednesday off but managed to get out for a short walk. I went over to a friend's house for dinner last night. He's actually quite an interesting person - I first met him when we worked on a movie together but before he was an actor, he use to be a sprinter. I talked with him about running for a little while but... he said we should make a movie about running/runners! I said as long as I can get some running gear out of it :rotfl:
Denise - Now I see where you're coming from! I think it's a very good point. You know I've never thought about running and personal safety that much because I just "assume" that my neighbourhood is safe.
Scott - Where would I get pepper spray? Just curious because I've never thought about buying it before. Btw, glad the new colour is working out! And yay to Lynn for saving the day! :goodvibes
Margie - The weather here is starting cool down too. I had to take a jacket with me this morning. I'm hoping it holds over the weekend so I can get my running in :)
Eva - I haven't done any hill repeats yet either and it's Thursday :sad2: I'm definitely going to give it a try tonight and see how that goes. I guess if I don't post anything tomorrow, you'll know what happened.
Well, have a great day everyone!!

Today's my rest day, but I realllly want to run. :-( So instead, I'm going with my friend to get pedicures. At least my feet will look pretty for the race, although I'm nervous about letting someone see my nasty runner's feet and about if the rubbed down callouses will affect my running.
Denise, It sounds like your husband is really sweet. Now that just means you'll have to get him more involved in your running.
Scott, I don't carry pepper spray with me, but I do live in a small southern town where everyone in neighborhood still knows each other. I also purposely only run in areas that I know well (several family friends are in the same neighborhood) as well as by a private school, a church, and a hair salon. My thoughts are with all of these that there are always people that know me and if I started screaming would come out and that if I needed someone/somewhere to run to it wouldn't take more than a few minutes.
Although a funny story. It's apparently football camp/practice week at the private school. The other morning when I ran by a couple of the boys decided to call out and whistle. (ugh. the problem of being 21 but looking about 16) Needless to say the coach heard them and they were still doing laps for it when I came back by.

Was all set to do 4 miles this morning with Mark, Miranda and Nick. Nick has not trained at all and I laid a guilt trip on him. Thankfully I did, Mark hurt his toe last night shutting windows (in the dark) during the thunderstorm. Of course he didn’t want to disturb me by putting on a light, never mind that the charming song he sang AFTER he hurt his toe did wake me J. So when he got up this morning, he didn’t think he could walk with it throbbing so I still had Miranda and Nick. Miranda left a VM message – she was too tired. Thankfully I had Nick – you know that whole – no going out alone thing.
So we were almost done our 4 miles when it started to downpour! Nick gave me the look, I smiled and said, hey it could be worse we could be at the farthest point from home! So when I said good bye I also said – See you tomorrow!
Here are pictures of the Monkey quilt for my Massage Therapist’s new little bundle of joy. The quilt label on the back says: Now I Lay me down to sleep, Mom prays that I don’t utter a peep, If I should cry at night and wake, please Dad can you give mom a break.

I have also made a busy bag for the “big sister” to play with. Inside are Disney Coloring books and the outer pockets have the crayons inserted in them.

So it’s a great day, I feel better today than I have in years. Thank you Dave and my team mates for encouragement and a gentle nudge when needed. Being on a team and accountable, makes all the difference.
Have a good day, more storms here in NH but you know, even they can’t dampen my mood.

I would look for pepper spray at a Police Supply place, or try online.
Jennifer, good thing about a small town, and funny about those poor football players LOL
Denise, KEWL quilt, Lynn has a busy bag for me when we go on trips, really, it even has a coloring book and games.

Hello, Team!
Denise, What an outstanding quilt & bag. Very thoughtful.
Scott/ Lynn, We're waiting for pics. to see how the work is coming along.
Erica, Glad to hear your feeling good after your PT.
Connie, Sorry to hear about your shoulder. Take good care.
Temps. have not been too hot but the humidity is still very high. Even with all the rain/ T-storms we have been getting. We're about to set a rainfall record to go along with the snowfall record earlier this year.
Last night I ran in a light rain. Felt great & kept the body cool. I would rather get wet then face the treadmill.
Off to the mall for a little lunchtime shopping....Sue

Good Morning Team!
I was planning a long walk tomorrow but if Scott takes off, it will probably be only a 6 miler - so I won't be delaying him too long, he can run that distance alot faster than I can walk it!
I fall into the "walking with wolf-like dogs" category! I do walk alone (except for the 2 malamutes), and I walk in a very rural residential area. It is also a place where everyone waves as they drive by. I used to carry pepper spray in Jackson, but it was because of the annoying dogs, (really just 1 annoying dog) not people, and I never used it, I haven't carried it for years.
I have almost covered the purple color with the new color, and I do like it when it is dry better than when it was wet. About half the basement is now painted, the rest will have to wait until we get back from our cruise. Today I will have to do a bunch of chores, clean house, mow lawn, last minute packing, etc. to be ready to leave for Denver tomorrow!
Have a good week, will check back in when we get back!

Vicky - Well..I did the hill repeats last night. My thighs hurt. That is all I have to say about that. I ran out a mile and a half to my spot and ran up and down it 5 times (totaled 1 mile) then ran home for a total of 4 miles. I actually stumbled on a better hill today during my 5 mile run and I might try that next week.
Margie and Connie - Still no pics. :guilty:
Lynn and Scott - Glad to hear you survived the near paint disaster. Sounds like things are moving right along with everything!!
Denise - That quilt is great!! I wish I had talent to do stuff like that!!
Just a quick update. My life is getting busier and busier. We have family coming into town this week and a family reunion on the 2nd. Our puppy is getting fixed on that Tuesday and then we have baby showers and weddings. The good news is...WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY SOON!! 38 days to go!!

Vicky, I am jealous ... we have not cooled off much by morning. I do try to get out by 6:-6:30 it is a bit cooler until the sun comes up, but the humidity is yuck!
Denise, love the quilt, poem, and bag. You Did GOOD! Glad to hear you are feeling Great!
Scott & Lynn...Goodness, what can one say Scott, first the color and then you make a mess. One might think negative thoughts it's a good thing that Lynn covers for you!!! :thumbsup2 Enjoy the cruise :goodvibes
Erica, PT sounds a bit difficult, but glad it is working and your toe is not as painful.
Connie, take care of your shoulder and do hope it does not come to surgery. The gym does sound KWEL! :thumbsup2
Eva, thanks we will wait on the picture of little Phoenix

Good evening,
Well, it has been raining for the last 7 days: I really know when to pick my vacation time. Oh well...
I haven't done any cycling or running since Tuesday. On Monday afternoon, I was cutting the grass and there was a nest of wasps in the ground and you can guess what happen. They don't like to be disturb and their revenge was to attack my ankle and my hand. I was bitten at least 5 times and my ankle is all swollen. So on monday evening it was RAID time.
Vicky, I always run with my pepper spray (which is in fact dog spray) because I live in a rural area and there is a lot of dogs. I've bought mine at Running Room in Montréal.
Well it's time for a walk with the dog.
Bonne soirée

Today was my typically pre-race warmup. There is a 5k that is run for the private school in my neighborhood and they leave the markers out all year, so I ran that route. Today, I personal bested for this course at 27:41. It has 2 big hills and quite a few little ones.
Tomorrow's race is the Outback Survivor 5k Challenge. Yes, it starts/finishes at and has one of its main sponsors as the Outback Steakhouse. It's a fundraiser for Junior Miss and started in 2001 when the TV show Survivor took place in Australia. It is my first race with a hill but the hill is no worse than any of the ones in my training; however, I'm more worried about a hill based traffic jam. It's at the half way point and you run up the hill around a parking lot and back down the hill. Here in lies the problem it's a one way (one lane) street on the hill so it's narrower than the rest of the course and with people both going and coming I'm thinking there's a good potential for traffic jams. My goal for tomorrow is to beat 28 again (I'd be pleased with myself if I beat 30 and my new longish term goal is to see something in the 26s).
I also ran for the first time in a running skirt. OMG it is the greatest thing ever. I'm now an official member of the skirt cult/culture. The pedicure yesterday was also an amazing thing. I highly reccomend them to anyone who runs. The foot rub alone is worth it.
Denise, I love the quilt with the monkeys.
Kristi, Hmmm I don't have any plans for marathon weekend and I'm home in Alabama for January. I may have to look into this volunteering thing.
Best,
Jennifer

Good Morning team!
Mark and I – he with a migrane- went out for our 4 miles today. That’s 4 days in a row for me so I will use tomorrow as a rest day. I can’t imagine walking with a migrane, I’d have to take to my bed but he’s used to it.
All in all – despite the rain and tornados(yes we had one yesterday about ½ hour from me) it’s been a good week to walk and I”ve gotten a lot accomplished so I welcome the rest day tomorrow. I say rest but I’m sure we’ll be busy with something.
I’ll be checking in and see how the rest of you are doing.

Happy Friday everyone! I stopped by Starbucks this morning and they were letting people who had a registered card have a free full sized smoothie! I got the chocolate banana one and it's yummy!
Well, it's casual Friday at work and I always seem to have a tougher time picking out an outfit to wear than I do on a regular day. I couldn't find my jeans but noticed an older (smaller) pair sitting out. I decided to try them on for the heck of it thinking I'd just have to throw them back but they actually fit! :scared1: I know it's kind of silly but it made me smile. I can't wait to shrink out of my other clothes. :goodvibes
Sue - I'm the same way! I'd rather run in the rain - unless it's pouring! Find anything interesting shopping? I noticed a lot of stores are starting to get their fall stuff in.
Jen - You are rocking those races!! WTG! I think I should start looking for some small ones next month as a warm up for my half in September. I love pedicures too but my feet are so ... yucky. I still have a black toenail that I'm waiting to fall or grow out - whatever it's suppose to do.
Diane - Thanks for the tip! I'm going to the Running Room because they're having a sidewalk sale so I'll check it out then.
Denise - I forgot to say yesterday that the bag and quilt are gorgeous!
Eva - I didn't get out for the hill repeats yesterday :sad2: I'm definitely going to on the weekend! I have to increase the time I'm spending (or not spending) on my cardio. My PT had a talk with me this week about my eating and I don't think he's been very impressed.
Connie - How's your shoulder doing?
Everyone else - :wave2:
Have a great weekend and keep up the awesome work :)

We got up at 0500 and the fog was thick, about 100 ft vis, I decided it would not be safe to hit the road. So we got a couple of cabinets hauled to the basement. Fog started to burn off and we were out for our respective run/walk. I got is a 7.7 miler so I worked off some of the Cherry Pie, it was rather humid and I leaked a bunch. I bet my shirt weighed a couple of pounds, I hung it off the mirror on my work car and noticed a big puddle develop.
I did sign up for the nike 10K, same day as the DL ½ , so I guess I might do a few K more, LOL.
You all are doing so good, too many to mention, It is neat to see all of our progress, WOW is that KEWL or what.
Lynn is making breakfast, I have gulped down a G2 drink and then some more water, now coffee. Watching to TOUR
Good luck to all and have a great work out, I’ll be Mr. Cabinet installer dude today.
Will try and post some pics later tonight.
Pups go to puppy camp today.
Tour will be very interesting tomorrow, tiem trial, and this on may decide the GC winner.

There I am caught up, I think! :rotfl: The shoulder is still kind of painful. I am still taking some OTC painkillers from time-to-time. I am icing and and doing the PT.
I have a race in October, a couple of 5K's in September and that's about all, until spring. But I still want to decorate my gym! I have already started purchasing stuff for it. I found a clock, the other day, that looks like a Splat against the wall. LOL I couldn't resist it.
Planning on 6 miles, today. I want to get outside.

Well, I am noticing that we are all getting busier and busier as the days go and our training runs lengthen. Please forgive me if I am somewhat absent in the coming weeks. I'll try to pop in when I can!!
Went to go look at shoes last night and I think I'm going to get a pair of Mizuno's for speedwork. I've really been trying to get back to my 9 minute mile! I ran a 9:23 mile today during my 4 mile run this morning. I'm hoping this hill work pays off!
Vicky - Good luck on the hills!! Could you try WW again to try to curb your eating? I don't plan on losing any weight seeing as how I'm in full force training now. I need the extra calories to fuel my running!!
Scott ad Lynn - Hope you're having fun in DEN!!!
Denise - I hate migranes with a passion! Hope he is feeling better!
Jennifer - You are a racing fool!! Congrats and good luck! :woohoo:

Morning everyone!
Villains Rock, baby Pheonix is adorable! I'm so glad he's well.
My 5k yesterday went amazing. First the weather cooperated and it was rather overcast and very lightly raining and even better only in the mid-70s at that point. The only bad part was the ground was slightly wet. I ended running a 26:33 (yay!) and won my age group. It also placed me 7th amongst women and 50th out of 115 overall. I now have two weeks to prep for my next race, which should be interesting as it is a night race (8 pm).
I also decided to take my next step towards the half-marathon and have signed up for a 10k in October. For those of you that have gone from 5k to 10k, how long and how hard was the switch? I'd like to run roughly a 9 to 10 minute pace and finish it in under an hour. Should I be trying to train the whole distance like I do for the 5k or would running 5 milers (my occasional long run right now) be sufficient? Is it a pipe dream to think that after two months+ I should be able to run a 10k at my current 5k pace?

Oh and I forgot to add I convinced my mom to sign up for the 1 mile walk at my next race. I'm hoping she'll build up to being willing to walk one of the longer races that I run. I've tried to get her on these boards to show her a lot of people walk, but she's just stubborn and the truth is in our little local races there aren't that many walkers or run/walkers.

VR that baby is as cute as can be!
Scott & Lynn, Mark and I were on the Wonder for Mark's 50th celebration. We found out we liked it enough but not enough to cruise again. Have a BLAST!!
Dave my rest day was yesterday, I was beat. Today we did 4 but not too fast, just something for miles for the team and to keep our butt in gear.
Speaking of butt, I weeded the front yard yesterday and fluffed the bark mulch and my A** is killing me. Needed this morning's walk to move them legs and get blood back where it belongs. Very stiff but the yard looks good and I did find some leg muscles that haven't been worked in a while.
Monday I may get some pilates work in again since it;s my early entry day at work 7am. Too hard to be presentable at 7am.
Have a good night.

Good morning everyone! (Am I the first one to post this morning :)) Hope everyone had a great weekend! It was a busy weekend for me - DF's birthday was yesterday so I had lots of stuff to get organized. We had a birthday dinner with his family which was nice. There was a big cake but I didn't go back for seconds - I figure it's going to be there the whole week right? And then went for a long walk last night to try and burn off some of the cake :) I ended up getting DF a certificate for 12 personal training sessions. I couldn't think of what else to get him and figured this would help him prepare for the half in January.
Eva - Baby Phoenix is a super cutie! And you don't need any makeup!! :) I'm going to give the hill repeats a try after work tonight. Wish me luck!
Scott/Lynn - Hope you're having lots of fun on your cruise!!
Denise - Weeding/gardening is tough! I've helped my mom a couple of times and I don't know how she does it. I always end up with back pain. Hope you're feeling more rested today :)
Jen - Congrats on another great race!! Do you have any running stores that hold clinics? Our running store has clinics for races from 5K to full marathons. Although my cousin recently signed up for one and he said that everyone in his group was "slow" and he found it hard to run with them.
wellesleyprincess
07-28-2008, 09:04 AM
I slept in a bit thinking it would be still cool at 8:30, no such luck. I got in 2 miles in 18 minutes before the heat got to me. Those 7:30 a.m. runs have spoiled me on temperature. I'll probably get on the dreadmill or try again tonight.
Vicky, There is a running store near me; however, their clinics are based on the local race calendar, which seems to be 5ks May to August, 10ks and 10-milers October to December. So, unfortunately I'll be back at school by the time they start up their 10k clinics. I'm worried that the people at the clinics will be too fast for me. The running store also runs the local run club and those people are hard core. (THe shortest club sponsored run is a 6 miler)
Best,

Hi everyone!
Checking in here after lunch. It’s hot in NH so there will be no walking tonight. Will Barb-b-q for dinner and relax. Have a lot to get caught up on the home front so will see if I have enough energy to do that.
We’ve had bad storms here recetly, so the sunshine today is a blessing. We actually had a Tornado last week and a woman was killed. Very unusual for NH. Our mountains usually protect us.
Well back to work since I am here to do just that. Have a good one all!

Hey all!
I got back out and ran my full run. 3.25 miles in just under 30 minutes. The hills in my normal run prevent me from running it at race pace, but it has been getting better. I went after dark, so while still humid no blazing heat.
Also, for anyone interested, Target has running skirts on sale 14.99 this week.
Erica and Panda, nice job on the 12 miler!

Well...I ran my first unofficial half marathon yesterday! I had started out early in the morning and due to my drowsy state I had forgotten my asthma inhaler so I had to turn around. When I headed back out I though I went a way that would shave some time off, but it only helped by a half mile. My 12 mile run had just turned in to 12.5 and the wheels in my head started turning....I could just do it and get it over with. That way I have it under my belt and I can work on my time before September. So I did and I was super proud of my self. :cool1:
My older sister is in town and she was not impressed. My dad had told her how far I went and her response was, "Well hurry up and shower we have been waiting for you to get done." Then at the end of the night (8pm) we were at the fair and I said I was tired and wanted to head home. She started razzing me about being a baby and I said "I got up before 4 am and I ran 13 miles today...I'm exhausted". Her response? "I knew you were gonna milk that all day". Yep. I was not happy with that. I have been a quitter my whole life and I'm finally doing something and accomplishing goals. Her lack of support has hurt my feelings, to say the least. I don't talk much about my running to anyone other than Jordan. I know people don't care. But I hoped that my sister of all people would be happy for me. :sad2:
OK...enough of the pity party for me. On to the good with you guys!!
Dave - Can't believe you had the energy to mow the lawn after 12 hot miles!! You go!!!
Erica - I found that I'm best to take Gu at every 4 miles. I had been taking them at 5 then I noticed a trend on my Garmin of my pace slowing significantly at mile 4. I started taking it at 4 and now I seem to have a more steady pace throughout. See what works best for you. My rule of thumb is to drink and eat before I feel I need to. If you feel that you need it it's probably too late. I could be wrong though. :confused3
Denise - BBQ sounds goood!
Vicky - Good luck with the hills! I'm tackling them tomorrow after work. Eek!
To the rest...take care...hydrate...be strong!
I will be at the Tigers/Indians game tonight...YAY for baseball!!! :thumbsup2

Good morning!
Been busy. Had company for dinner last night and ended up without getting PLANNED exercise in. Got lots of the unplanned kind, though. I will be putting some miles on the TM this morning. It's too hot to get outside for long. I did 6 miles on Saturday, started at dawn and didn't get back to the house to avoid the 90's.
Phoenix is a cutie! Makeup, you don't need no stinkin' make up, girl!
Congrats princess on the 13 miles. No worries about your sister. It's no big deal to do 13 miles.....when you get to be the one NOT doing it!
Everyone make a great day!

Eva welcome to our world. Most people don't wanna hear it because it reminds them that they hate their on bodies but don't have the guts to do anything about it. Keep faith in what you are doing and be proud of youself. You have a lot to be proud of. That is why groups like this are so important becuse at times it seems like no one cares. Wait till you meet everyone at Disney, you will be worn out from the hugging.
Thanks for the compliment on the energy, I'm rewriting the book on senior fitness.

Mark and I went out for our 4 miles this morning. We were met by a fellow quilter/friend on our first mile. She’s a surgical nurse and does a couple of miles before she starts her day and liked having bodies to walk with for protection. It was a beautiful morning. We almost attempted to do 5 this morning but I didn’t have my watch so I didn’t dare and be rushed to get ready for work. Feeling much better today and glad the rest of the day and night will be more for me! If I can get a 5 miler in this week and continue my 4 on Wed and Thursday I’ll manage 80 miles this month! I really would like to do that but we’ll see………
VR, your sister really ticked me off! What a sense of accomplishment for you! When I did the ½ I had done 6.1 miles as my longest walk but with a feeling I could go on without effort, for you to tackle that length in this heat and then go out to the fair is amazing. Like to see her try.
I don’t have a sister, only a brother, he could not do the mileage I do - well maybe if his life depended on it. I think he’s proud of me but he’s never said so. We walk/run compete because we feel better, too bad you sister and my brother will never know the sheer joy of working hard to accomplish something and almost burst in tears when you’ve completed it and they put that medal around your neck. There is nothing in the world like it. I would say that incredible day in my life is one that I will remember as much as my wedding day, the birth of my children the death of my mother. It will stay with you forever. They can never take that away from us with every step we take, we’ve earned that moment – enjoy it.
As Dave says, WALK STRONG.
Dave and Erica – 12 miles – you guys are too much. I’d have to start at 3am so I could do most of it in the dark and cooler temps!
Well I am at work so I’ll sign off. Will PM my miles too.

Hi everyone! We're expecting another hot week here in Toronto. I want to go out and run on Wednesday and Thursday so I have a feeling I'm going to be waiting until later in the evening to do that. I don't mind exercising at night except all the water I drink usually keeps me up :)
Eva - I did some hill repeats last night. They were tough! I'm hoping to go out again on Thursday. We'll see. Sorry to hear about your older sister! I think we all know someone like that (unfortunately). I think you're doing great :) If it wasn't for you, I never would have even attempted the hill repeats!
Dave/Erica - Whoa! 12 miles!! You guys are awesome! DF and I are still working at building up the walking miles. We're at 3 miles and I'm pushing for 3.5 - 4 this week. I told him that if we walk faster, it won't take as long. Of course that's easier said than done.
Jen - I wish we had Target stores in Canada. $14.99 for a running skirt sounds like a good deal :) I've stayed away from the running clinics for that reason too but I think I might bite the bullet and join. I figure even if I have to run at the back, I'll have to push myself to run faster. I'd love to run at a pace like you and Eva. You gals are fast!
Margie - The heat makes me really tired too! Hope the weather is better today and you're feeling more energized!
Connie - The last time I went to a friend's house for dinner it was on one of my running days and I kept thinking about the exercise I was missing. Isn't that terrible
Well, that's all for now. Take care everyone!!

Good evening all,
What a hectic few days. It was a busy race weekend and crazy start to the work week.
Sat. morning I did a 1/4 marathon. Third year to do this local race. It's nice to get up and only have a 5 min. drive to the start. I really pushed myself. Had a PB and took 3 mins. off last years time.
Sat. night my husband did a local 5k. Wasn't sure if this would be a go. We had major storms throughout the day but the sky cleared for a beautiful evening run.
Sun. morning I did a 10k. Same event organizers as the previous evening. What disorganization! They were running a 1/2 marathon at the same time. They had problems with the course setup and ended up having the 1/2 runners do the 10k twice + an addon. They had to remeasure so we started an hour late. I was getting worried that my earlier breakfast wouldn't hold & temps would rise quickly.
Congrats. to everyone's accomplishments! What great work!:cheer2:
Happy Wednesday training.....it's track night. :woohoo: .....Sue

Hello Team! :cheer2: :cheer2:
Sounds like some great walks/runs and accomplishment this week :goodvibes WAY TO GO. Geez, I have not done a 12-13 miler since the April half marathon!
Eva :grouphug:
Vicky- Way hot in the 90's today with high humidity. I am tired but then I did not get home to even eat dinner tonight until almost 9:PM.
Connie, how is the shoulder?
Scott & Lynn know you must be enjoying that cruise or are you possibly wishing you were home working on the basement (?) :rolleyes1

VR, 13 miles is awesome! So is getting up at 4 am! Don't let anyone get you down on that.
Sue, Back to back races, wow!! I hope you get in some nice recovery time.
I did my standard 3.5 route today. It was meet the teacher night at the school I run by so the weaving and dodging of cars and small children probably made it slightly longer.
I have a question that maybe you guys will know. So I'm wanting to increase my mileage but I've heard not to increase more than 10-20% per week or you risk easier injury. Right now all my runs are about the same length (3-4 miles) should I increase each run 10-20 (meaning 3.3-4.4 miles) or should I pick one run per week to increase by a more significant amount (for example 3 or 4 3-4 milers plus 1 5-5.5 miler)?
Best wishes to everyone,
Jennifer

Thank you guys for all of the support!! I had to laugh at Denise's comment...yes she had ticked my off as well and I was thinking all of the things you had said! Either way, I got over my sister's snotty comments pretty quick and we had a blast last night at the game. I've just come to the conclusion that she is jealous :rolleyes1 . LOL! But yeah...the Tigers won and I got to see my favorite baseball player pitch a couple of innings. Joel Zumaya...fastest pitcher in the world!
Today will be a rest day since I walked forever last night before and after the game. I didn't wear a pedometer but I was keeping track of blocks and counted them up to about 2.5 miles overall and about an hour of movement.
Tomorrow will be the 1 month mark for our trip! How do you guys keep track of the walking in the parks? My pedometer broke and with all of the trip expenses, I don't want to fork over more money for another one right now. Can I just estimate? :confused3
windwalker
07-30-2008, 06:18 AM
Eva of course you can just estimate. Except for the GPS systems most of the other stuff is a estimate anyway. One time we compared a pedo, a Nike + and a Garmin and they all had a different reading. Even when you do races they are usually a bit off, I have done 5Ks that were anywhere from 2.9 to 3.5 miles. Red neck enginering strikes again.
I'm off for a workout so later guys.

Good morning everyone! It seems like it's going to be a quiet day today. I think a lot of people are using vacation days since it's going to be a long weekend for us this week. Works for me since there's been less traffic on the roads :goodvibes
Sue - Congrats on the races and the PB! :goodvibes Sorry to hear about the disorganization. Are you going to send them an e-mail?
Eva - The last time I went to WDW, I didn't have a Garmin or a Nike+ so I just estimated the time I spent walking around the park. I've heard one of the tram drivers at Epcot say that most people walk about 6-8 miles once they pass through the park gates.
Margie - That's plenty hot! It's cooler here today because we're expecting rain. The humidity is still high. I'm hoping it will rain soon and then finish by the time I get home from work so I can still squeeze in my run.
Well, I'm off to get my coffee! Have a great day everyone :wave2:

Good morning team mates.
I had a very pleasent walk this morning. It was already hot and humid but not as bad as it will be later today. I chose my hill route and walked the first mile to warm up in 14:02, then 3 miles at 36:38 for an average pace of 12:13. Then I did some ab work, stretching and finished with some pool running
I deed a vacation is it Oct yet?
Happy Panda:hippie:

Panda, the fact that they're all estimates doesn't make me feel as bad about only using my $15 pedo instead of one of the high tech gadgets.
I also like using map my run. Again, not 100% accurate but it's pretty good if you're in a relatively unfamiliar area or trying to compare routes.
Sue, Congrats on the race!! Disorganization can suck, but I think your results made putting up with it worth it.
As for me,
Ugh. I tried to run this morning but between having done a night run last night and the fact that at 8 am it was already 85 and humid it just wasn't happening so I ended going about 2 miles and I'll get on the dreadmill later.
I'm taking the GRE on friday so I probably won't me checking in as much in the next few days.
Best,
Jennifer

Good Morning.
Well when you set a goal, it's half the battle. My goal was 80 miles this month which I set last week :upsidedow when I saw how close I was to the 80 mile mark. If only I could do 5 miles one morning this week. Today we did it and in record time 64 min. We did have a slow warm up and had to dodge Mr. Skunk on the route but other than that it was a great morning.
I'm taking tomorrow off to rest and do some sewing....:cheer2:
Oh and I did better than I thought it's actually 80.5 miles!

Denise you are the a great example to all of us this month with your determination. Your average of 20 miles a week is good. The rule of thumb is to lose tummy a minimum of 20 miles a week is needed. Between 20 and 30 miles a week is optimal for improvement.
I'm off to workout myself and then it's another extended hours work day, visit from the corp bosses today.

Denise - Way to go on meeting (and surpassing) your 80 miles!!! You are doing GREAT!!! Any time a goal is met it calls for a celebration!! :drinking1
Dave - Be careful not to overwork yourself! I am coming into a very tough month at work with managing all of the furloughs, downgrades and temporary leaves. I am so very worried I'll overextend myself between all of that, training and getting ready for vacation. On the plus side..I'll enjoy my vaca that much more. Anywho, it seems as if you have been super busy so please remember to take care of YOU first!
Erica - Congrats on all of your great progress!! You are moving along great with your training and I'm sure you are doing wonderful in your weight loss efforts by the new siggy. 2 sizes?!?! WAY TO GO!!!!
Dawn - LOVE that quote!!! So true!
Vicky - I didn't get to my hill work this week yet. But the week is still young and I'm planning on them either tomorrow morning or Saturday before work. Did you end up getting your's in?
Jennifer - I use mapmyrun also...I get bored easily so it's a nice way to figure new routes. :cool1:

Today I was the Power Panda!!!!
Some days you feel frog flipping awesome and today was one of those days. Woke feeling refreshed and well rested. Got off to the gym and since it was pouring rain I had to walk on the treadmill. I was just going to do a couple of easy miles to warm up and then hit the weights.
Well after a mile at 15 mpm pace, I started feeling like I needed more, I did the next mile at 12 mpm and the next mile at 10:54 pace and the last .1 mile of the 5K I sprinted at 9:13 mpm pace. Then a lap to cool down and off to the weight room.
I had a great upper body workout. This time I did a set of the heaviest weight I could work with the kept doing the same exercise but dropping 5 pounds each set, total 4 sets for each body part with no rest in between. Yhen some ab work and stretching.
The music on the TV Videos were awesome. I saw a new video for the ***** Cat Dolls "When I grow up", it's wicked good, gotta get that for the iPod.
Eva, my work is not physicly demanding at all. Most of the time it's even fun. My co workers have to listen to endless Panda chatter so it's harder on them. I sell and fit eye glasses and over see the operation in the evenings.
Yes Erica is doing super, I'm very proud of her.
Yep Denise you have to keep cranking out the miles.
Connie, hope your shoulder is better today, Did I give you my 28 miles and 10 hours of evercise for last week?

Hi everyone! I'm excited that the weekend is almost here! No big plans or anthing like that but I'm looking forward to having an extra day off - it's a civic holiday in Ontario so we get Monday off as well! Yay!
Tried to go for a longer walk last night but DF was complaining about his rib muscle. I think he pulled a muscle a couple of months ago and ever since he's had pain in his rib area. I've finally convinced him to go to my PT. He's been trying to get answers from his doctor. She couldn't figure out what was wrong and when he asked about going to see a PT, her answer was "I don't believe in them.". Ever since I started running, I've been sensing that doctors and chiros/PTs don't always get along.
Eva - Only one day of hill training so far. It's one of those things I *know* I should be doing but haven't been. I was watching a weight loss reality show last night where the trainer was using a parachute to help the woman to run faster - her goal was to run a 1/2 marathon. I'll have to ask my PT if that will work as well as the hills. Of course, I can only imagine how silly I'll look running with a parachute :)
Dawnie - That's a fantastic quote!! I will have to remember that one.
Denise - Congrats on reaching your goal!! :cheer2:
Jen - Best of luck with your GRE test :thumbsup2
Dave - WTG Power Panda! That's an awesome workout! I've been debating joining a gym lately myself. I can't afford to buy all the weights and equipment that I use when I workout with my PT.
Have a great day everyone!

Dawn, Love the quote. Very WISH-esque
Erica, Thanks for the good luck wishes! I'm doing okay based on practice test, but I'd like to do awesome. I'm perfectionist if you guys haven't noticed yet.
Panda, The PCD song When I Grow UP always gets stuck in my head.
I did 4 miles at a 8:45 mpm pace on the treadmill this morning. Nice thing faster pace/closer to race pace, bad thing boring and I missed my hills. It's too difficult to play with the tv, and the elevation, and the speed all at the same time.
