Sorry Goofs. I have very little time today to post but I wanted to get this up and running. I have you all up to date to this point. Wednesday I am hoping for a spreadsheet reconciliation day since I need to put in the entire month of June. I apologize again, I am just having trouble finding enough time in my life lately.
Keep the thread going Goofs and I will check in randomly where I can. Have a happy 4th everyone!!

Made it to Boston after our 775 mile trip! So 14 hours of sitting for me! SAturday I had 1 hour of Pilates and 1 hour of walking with the dog (2.5 miles) Sunday--another 2.5 miles with the dog and 1 hour (roughly).
Probably just walking the dog for me this week. Working on my hip/quad/glute strenghtening --but left the evil foam roller home!

Wow, that's a lot of sittin', Maura! I wish I had a dog that I could walk. I think it would give me inspiration to get out more like I should. Ha!
Today's (Mon, June 30) mileage/hours:

Morning Goofs. Not much more time today.
Maura: Glad to hear you made it North. Let me know if and when you are coming to Maine. I would make an effort to drive there to meet up with you. :thumbsup2
Susie: You and Steve continue racking up the miles. Good for both of you.
Angie: Running with a cold? Been there and done that. I am amazed you made it 6 under those circumstances. WTG!! :yay:
Mike: Go Mike go!!! :cheer2: How much longer to the Ironman?
Suzanne: Yep, July, can't believe it myself. Softball and nonschool scheduling wipe June out completely for me. Yay for vacation!! :cool1:
I got my 5.5 in yesterday. My last half mile was an 8:34 mpm average. Amazing how black clouds and thunder induces speed. I was not home 5 minutes when the skies opened up. :scared1: The rest of the run was not stellar. I am beyond tired from the softball marathon weekend and other LTO issues right now. My average for the run (thunder pace included) was 10:55 so you can see the nonstellarness of which I speak. I still feel good because at least I went out and did it even without my normal motivation. :upsidedow Today is another day, albeit still tired and I have another 5 on tap with 2-3 at my HM pace. Softball tonight. An hour drive both ways and one game at 6 p.m. and another at 8 p.m. putting us on the road by 10 p.m. and me up at 4:00 again to work my shift I missed on Sunday. No sleep in sight for me but Wednesday is a "rest" day. :laundy:
Have a good one Goofs and keep on truckin!!!!!!!!!! :goodvibes

Got to love school vacations!
Monday and Tuesday rode for 2 hours and ran 3 miles in 30 minutes
Last Thursday I can in FIRST place in the horse show in my division! We knocked a rail down and he was a wild guy! Bucking and everything- he really likes cold wet rain! We got a 24.2 on our dressage test which I just cannot believe!
I had a blast and look forward to the next one.

Hi Goofs
Princess ~~ thanks a bunch for getting this up and running for July.
Today 7/1 only 90 minutes of lawn mowing. Hope to get back on track soon and running/exercising daily. There have appointments, erratic work schedule, supposed to be on vacation, etc.
Take care goofs and enjoy the 4th. DD is coming in and bringing her running shoes with her.

Yesterday, I got in 2.5 miles in 25 min.
Today, 1.5 hours of ice hockey
Lisa--I agree, you always find a way to get your workouts in despite being so busy...I need to be more like that!!!
groovygirls--Congrats on the First place win in the horse show...that is great!!!!
Mike--Good Luck in your 1/2 Ironman! I am so inspired by people that attempt those Ironman races!! Can't wait to hear all about it!

Lisa Not planning to get to Maine this time around--not enough time. Maybe next year!
Mike Yuo will rock the 1/2 Ironman--we all know it!
groovy Congrats on the win!
hockeygirl Ice---aaahhhh. It must feel nice to be cool in this heat. Of course, come winter we will all complain about the cold!
Lynn According to my teenage son, lawn mowing ranks high up there on the "most stenuous things in the world to do"--so you must be getting some good workout! (Or else my son just hates cutting the grass--oh yeah, that's it):rotfl:
Suzanne 2 am? When do you actually sleep!
Another long walk this morning for me and the dog--an hour up to Beverly airport--said hi to the Hood Blimp-- back to my mom's and up the big hill, around the block. Good exercise. Probably 2-3 miles.

I have a question....
when I go out running first thing in the morning, my legs warm up very fast, and I ususally have no issues, but if I go out running after work, I struggle with serious cramping, tightness, and hot spots. I do about the same amount of stretching both times (which is not much...) and would think that after moving around all day that they would be better in the afternoon, not worse. Any idea why this is, and how to avoid the cramping?
Thanks all!

Hi All,
Not sure if I will get a chance to get back on here tonight, but I have two hockey games tonight! Back to back games...ugh!! So today's totals will be:
3 hours of ice hockey!!!
Maura--it is funny that you say that about it being cold! In my game last night, it was so HOT in the rink, I actually felt very dehydrated at one point! I never thougth I would be saying that it was hot in an ice hockey rink, but I did last night!!!
Suzanne--sorry to hear you have to work on July 4th...one of the perks of being a teacher is never having to work on holidays for me!!
Angie--sorry to hear about the cramping. I find if I go out in the morning it is cooler and not so humid out. When I go after work this time of year, it is always very hot and humid, and adding to the fact that my legs are tired from being up and about all day, I tend to find that my legs tighten up and cramp a little more, and I need to stop after about a mile and really get a good stretch in. Not sure if this is why you are cramping, but it was just a thought!
Keep up the good work!

Good morning Goofs. Happy pre-4th!!!! Hmmm, no smilie with a flag, whassup with that???
I am still running on limited time. I did take yesterday for some rest with the kidlets at the beach. I played football, lacrosse and frisbee. I only swam once when the frisbee went out too far. The water here is still FRIGID!!! How can kids play all day in that?????
I did get my 5 in on Tuesday. I had 1 mile easy, 3 miles at HM pace and 1 mile easy. It was on the TM at the gym under completely controlled circumstances. No hills, etcetera....I had my first mile at 10:30, 3 miles at 9:30 and the last a 10 mpm pace. Yep you read that right. :woohoo: My 5K PR would have so been toasted!!! Three miles at 9:30 for a 5K is 29:31 or would have been. So now I have to find a local 5K to test the theory out on...you know, one that is completely flat with just the right humidity conditions and someone to pace me....lol....
Great job getting out in the heat Goofs. I know some have it hotter than others right now but the Goofs seem to persevere. Angie, I think your issue is all hydration and electrolyte imbalance except for the hot spots. That is just the difference in the heat/humidity. You are going to need to do some experimentation with supplementing. It may not feel like you are taxing your body but your body is telling you otherwise. Cramps, etcetera are electrolyte/hydration issues IMHO. Maybe Cecilia and Mike have some words of wisdom on this too.
I know tomorrow is the 4th, picnics, family get togethers, etcetera, but do not forget yourselves in the process of celebrating!! You need the ME time that gets you out and running/walking!!! Have a supreme 4th everyone!!!! :flower3:

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY GOOFS!!
Remember this is your last day of the week to get that workout in. Take some time for yourself today and have your pre-calorie workout!!! Nothing negates those pies and cookies better than some exercise!!
I wanted to let everyone know that we are updated on the spreadsheet for June. The mileage does contain some makeup miles from May for some of our loyal Goofs. Our totals are:
Miles-1598.52
Hours: 270.19
Not too shabby for a group of recreational runner/walkers!! See, we can do it! Overall, we are currently in 4th place in the standings out of 7 teams so lets get out there and show them what we Goofs are made of!! :thumbsup2
I have made a corporate decision to take a nice long bike ride this morning after I finish up working to recoup some miles. Unfortunately, they are not foot miles but I will take what I can get at this point. I got rained out last night and could not face the TM so I did some core work and called it good. Next week starts my 10K training for my race in August.
Again, happy 4th to all the Goofs! Keep those bodies in motion!! :cheer2:

Lisa, nothing wrong with a nice, long bike ride! :thumbsup2 Actually, a bike ride is an excellent XT exercise and will only complement your running. At least, I'm hoping it will for me. :teeth:
I wanted to ride around 20 miles last night but couldn't due to bad weather. There is a 60% chance of rain today as well. Bummer! Hopefully, I'll get some mileage in.

Congrats on the great miles/hours in June folks...lets keep it up!
Lisa: Any miles/hours are good miles/hours! I love my bike, I have toyed around with learning to race, and participating in those...of course given the tight bike clothes, I'll look like 9 pounds of sausage in a 5 pound casing :lmao:
Angie We can chat a bit about the cramping. It would be helpful if you could post where the cramps are occuring, i.e. calves, feet, quads, hammies, etc. I suspect that if you are sitting most of the day for work and then going running, you are carrying some tension/tightness in your legs, but hate to recommend something without knowing a bit more.
Mike's place
new pr on the 5k, 24:38, 3.1 miles, 10th of 27 in my age division, 65th of 244 runners overall, at a 7:56 pace. I think it would have been a couple of minutes faster, but it was a hilly course...my 14 yr old nephew SMOKED me by running 22:06, or 7:07 pace
I hope to get in a swim today, but the Y is closed, and the little rippers might not let me swim laps at the pool (and i have them alone since hunny is heading to work here soon).
I just signed up for the Indianapolis marathon on Oct 18th (or 19th, whichever it is I'll be there), so I will be able to keep contributing once the 1/2 IM is over...in 16 days :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
My swim coach says that I am doing more than fine, and not to worry, but this event has me shaking in my booties...My goal is DLF, so if I pass anyone, I will have exceeded my expectations. I have intentionally not set a time goal, but a finish goal...If I do complete this, it will be the biggest event goal I have ever accomplished!

Mike/Lisa/anyone else....thanks for any input...I do sit for a large part of the day. The cramps are mostly in my calves, occasionally it feels like a shin splint starting, but that isnt bad, and tightness around my ankles, towards the outsides. I drink at least 64 oz of water between 7-4, and ususally a milk, iced tea or juice in there too, and usually take a Gu 15 minutes before heading out. I dont have any issues if I go in the morning. Thanks for your thoughts...

Hi Goofs-
Sorry I have been MIA. Dd12 spent a couple days in the hospital with an infection and fever. She is allergic to almost every antibiotic known so they were just being extra cautious.
Between being at the hospital and taking care of two kids at home, the only exercise I got was my right foot. According to the local sheriff, my right foot is extrememly fit and I need to give it more rest. :rolleyes1
We are all home today. She is better but not 100%. She got the ok to go onto camp on sundayas long as she is rested - so she is cooperating about getting lots of rest.

I hope all of you are doing well. I have not been keeping track of what I have been doing like I should be. I need to find my pedometer so I know how far my typical walk/jog actually is. Plus I need to keep track of it so I can report it.
It is about a 50 degree angle down the one side, up and down hilly in the middle and then about the same back up to get to where I started. Unless I lengthen it on some of the other trails.
I have signed up for a 5 mile event in October and a 5k in August. Hopefully they keep me motivated.
Next week I have a training for work in New York.

Good morning Goofs. I hope all 4th hangovers are well departed by now....the foodie and alcohol types!!! I don't know about anyone else but when I overeat, I think I suffer a worse hangover the next day than if I had just been drinking!!
Mike: Super congrats on the PR, you lucky dog. You actually obtained the goal that I missed. :cool1:
Cecilia:  for you and :wizard: for DD. I hope that things are better every day.
Becky: Nice to have you with us. Keep working toward your goal.
Kim: Easy on the ankle. Cross country is harder than road racing on those injuries. I had to run across the hay field yesterday and had forgotten how bad the footing was in a field!!
Angie: You can get cramps from over-hydrating too. I get shooting pains in my right side (i.e. Great Bay) if I drink too much. I have to stop drinking and/or eating a half hour before my runs. I too sit all day and make the extra effort to do toe circles and things during the day to get the blood flowing and fluid moving. I hope Mike can give you some more insight on that issue. I think some of the hot spot problem with afternoon versus morning could have something to do with swelling and fluid buildup in your lower legs/feet.
Susie: I have noticed an improvement in my running times since I started biking. I am finally getting faster biking too!
Hi to all the other Goofs out there!!
As for me, I did get a 15 mile bike in on Friday. Yesterday, I threw hay for 2 hours which is a great upper body/core workout in itself. Today I have 7-8 miles as soon as I am done working. Tomorrow starts 10K training for real, serious!!! I have a goal and I really want to attain it in August so I will be working hard to get in my workouts every day....no really....:lmao:
Take care Goofs and enjoy the rest of the weekend. Get those steps in!!!

What's up Super Goofs!!!!! I hope everyone had an awesome 4th of July weekend! Things were pretty hectic for me, did a lot of research for our wedding, in between all the BBQ's. We hope to get some details finalized this week for our reception and ceremony, and then I can sit back for a bit.
Unfortunately, I did not have time to get any runs in this weekend, but I do have a hockey game tonight. Tomorrow I will be back at it, continuing with my Couch to 5k program, and then hockey on Tuesday and Wednesday.
I feel so lazy when I don't get any exercise in, I really need to get back on track, since I really need to loose some weight before going dress shopping for the wedding!!!!
Hope everyone had a GREAT weekend!!!!

Hi Goofs!
Laurie - we had a great 4th too; unfortunately, there was too much food and not enough exercising going on. :rolleyes1
Beth - you are really packing in the miles and hours! Good for you! :cool1:
Mike - Sending you :wizard: for a cramp-free tri coming up. :scared:
Lisa - more :worship: coming your way. I don't know how you do it all.
Kim - more :wizard: for your ankle. Hopefully, you'll get back to "normal" soon.
ReAnSt - I always find that planned races usually keep me motivated to get out there an exercise. If I didn't have these events, I'm afraid I would just sit on the couch or be on the computer all the time. :sad2:
Angie - I also have more problems in the afternoon than morning. I think part of my problem could be electrolyte imbalance and as Lisa mentioned - fluid build-up from sitting at my desk all day.
Well, Goofs, I haven't been able to exercise much due to an embarrassing mishap. For years, I rode on my nice, cushy comfort bike for exercise. However, to keep up with my friends and to ride longer distances, I knew that I would have to get a road bike. Well, I purchased one a few weeks ago and I began to feel pretty comfortable with the gears so the next step for me was to get clipless pedals for my bike. Why they are called clipless pedals I have no idea because you are actually clipping into a pedal for a more efficient pedal stroke.
Anyway, long story short, I didn't get to practice much getting in and out of the pedals before I took off on a practice ride up and down the street I live on. When I came to a stop at the stop sign at the end of my street, I couldn't get out of my pedals fast enough and I fell over, hitting the pavement and skinning my left knee and elbow and bruising my hip and other areas. I felt like a complete idiot learning how to ride a bike all over again. :teeth: This happened Friday. I was too sore Saturday to ride or run so I did nothing but nurse my pride and cleaned my house. Today, I did practice getting in and out of the pedals but could not muster the courage to go out for a ride of any distance. However, I did not fall today so that's good. Maybe tomorrow I'll try to venture out some.
Sorry so long.
Here's Steve miles and hours since last post:

Good morning all my little Goofy ones! I hope everyone survived the 4th okay. It sounds like you were all out there working hard!
UpDisney: Super welcome to the Goofs. We love new members and cannot wait to meet you. Stop on by and introduce yourself to us, give us a little bio and post your miles/hours here. Our week runs from Saturday to Friday and if you have any miles/hours for last week, I would be happy to post those up for you. I will update the spreadsheet today!
Susie: OMG  Now you are really talking me out of clipless pedals. My dad's old bike that we keep around for an extra has clip pedals and I fell over in the driveway with them but thankfully no one was here to see it!! :lmao:  for the hurt pride from the fall but congrats on getting back up and trying again.
Suzanne: So sorry again that I am going to miss you. I cannot believe you all come so close sometimes and I am headed in another direction. :sad2:
Laurie: Yay for firming up plans. So when is the big day??? I know we are all invited....:rolleyes1 lol. Also yay for finding new motivation to keep moving and grooving. You will find the perfect dress and it will make you look, well, perfect. You wait and see!!!
Joanne: No bad teammates here, just busy ones. I have been out straighter than straight lately so all is forgiven in Goofdom!
Mike: Your stonker is my good run! Boo on foot cramps. I have to tell myself to relax and not try to make my feet do anything just let them flow. During water aerobics, I would try to make my toes point and ended up on the side of the pool ALL the time!! Better swims ahead...and runs too!!
All other Goofs: A big hi to all!

If you are not posting due to vacation or illness that is okay and I hope you are either having fun or getting well. If you have decided to leave the game for whatever reason, if you could just zip me a PM or something so I can get a replacement team member, we would all appreciate it.
I will update the spreadsheet today as I said so please get any remaining miles in ASAP so I can get the totals correct.
As for me, I got in 8 miles yesterday in about 80-82 degree heat and high humidity. It was a slower run (10:40 pace) albeit one in the good category. I felt good while running I just lost a lot of fluid during the run. I had to call the cavalry (DD13 and DS6 on the 4-wheeler) for an Accelerade at my last mile marker due to fluid loss. My totals were 8.01 miles in 1:21 and change. I call this a win. I do not handle heat and/or humidity well so I did have to slow down quite a bit but I am still happy with this run. I am still working on timing of fueling and what fueling I want when (and what won't melt in my skirt pocket) and I hope to have this perfected by August. Today, I start my training for the 10K in August. It is, thankfully, a XT day and we have 1000 bales of hay due to be picked up this afternoon. It is a great whole body workout and I will definitely work up a sweat. :thumbsup2 Plus, it gives me great hours count!!
Stay positive Goofs and keep working hard toward your goals. We can do this together!!! :cheer2:

Hope to run tomorrow, if the storms hold off. If not, I will exercise inside. Need to really get back with the exercise program. I would like to lose 10 more pounds.

Good morning Goofs. Spreadsheet is updated and we have a total of 224.93 miles and 37.78 hours for the first week of July. Not too shabby. :thumbsup2
I am in the books for 5 hours of throwing hay yesterday. We put in a total of 991 bales and more to come for Friday or Saturday (weather permitting). I have between 4-6 miles on tap for this afternoon. It is supposed to be 90 with high humidity at that point so I will probably stick to the 4. Hopefully I can get out before the severe thundershowers this afternoon and I don't end up in the gym.
Beth: I cannot wait for the VA Beach report. I have a lot of people interested in next year so make sure you note the best hotels, the feature band, any interesting sites, etcetera when you make your report!!
Glad to see that so many of you are wanting to get back on the proverbial wagon. Summer is the time when lots of people seem to get their groove on (at least around here) and then in the north we use winter for padding. :rolleyes1 Whatever it takes to get you motivated, weight loss, race goal, better health, just focus on that and keep yourself moving. I have used this quote in the past but it seems fitting to use it again.

...gotta tell you about this run, it was pretty warm (88) and sticky, and I'm calling it my Noah's Ark run...when I started out, I had 2 turkeys run next to me before they took off into the woods, then 2 cats stalked me, then 2 squirrels ran into the road and chattered at me, and then, the biggie, 2 deer crossed in front of me, one stood there and watched me until a car came and scared him. I was getting a bit nervous, 'cause we've had a momma bear in the area, I did NOT want to run into her!!! Made the run fun though...

Okay, Lisa, we went to VA beach last week and scouted good hotels. They have changed the race course for this year, so I will have to check it out before stating a good hotel. We stayed at the Fairfield Inn last year, which was REALLY handy for the start of the race. It's straight down a few blocks from the Expo center (packet pick-up place) on 19th street. The start of the race is there on Sunday. The kids could stay in bed, and I walked to the start. The only down side was the rooms were probably $250.00 a night. It was alot of money......we have a reservation for this year, but since money is tight, will probably not stay there. You could check to see if it's a race hotel with a discount.....could very well be. The Double Tree is right beside the expo, and is for sure a race hotel. I don't know the cost of it, but it could possibly be a choice for us next year (with dh's hotel points this year).
They have an excellent expo too......really big, with alot of vendors. I went by myself last year, while the kids went to the beach. I had a blast looking around being a gizmo geek!
The music headliner this year is the B 52's.....which will be cool. Two years ago it was 3 Doors Down (((((which was by far the BEST concert!))))) With the Steve Miller Band and INXS last year.
I will let you know about the course this year......I think it will be better. They are eliminating the LONG last 3 miles on the board walk to finish. I think it will be a big improvement.
Ok, sorry so long......just thought I would let you know a little bit early!

Ran today for the first time in a long time. Good news: left knee didn't feel too bad. Bad news: It didn't hurt because I couldn't run that far (1 mile) before I just had to walk. Seems like my fitness is gone. Did run/walk for ~ 3miles-~ 30 minutes.
Right knee/hip still lousy. Will try again in a couple of days. Apparently the exercises, foam roller, insoles et al are not yet helping.

Thanks for the welcome. My name is Vicki and I'm from Michigan's Beautiful Upper Peninsula (UP). That gives you an explanation of the DIS username - UP Disney. In retrospect, I should have chosen Disney Yooper but I can't lose my post count now! :lmao:
I recently signed up for the Princess Half Marathon. I've wanted to do a marathon for many years. When the Princess Half was announced and it is for the week we go to Disney every year, I took it as a sign. I want to run the Full Marathon in January 2010.
My dad and a high school teacher were the masterminds behind a 12K (and in later years a 6K) race on 4th of July in my hometown for about 15 years. Without the two, it would have died. This was the 26th year and it was another great success. I walked the 6k on Friday. My time was about 15.67 miles per minute. I was quite happy since I'm just coming off the couch.
I am starting the C25K program. I needed someone to help hold me accountable which is what brings me to your group.
For last week, I can post 4 miles / 1 hour.

Hey Super Goofs.....looks like we are holding our own in the team standings!! Keep up the good work!!
Vicki--Welcome to the team!
Maura-sorry to hear you were not feeling up to par during your run...although your pace didn't seem bad!
Beth--can't wait to hear your report for the VA Beach half...this is on my list of races to do...it may have to wait a few years as, I won't do it this year obviously, and I will be getting married next year right before it, so if I do it, it will probably not be till 2010..but I hear it is a fun race, so I will have to do it at some point!!
As for me.....I had a hockey game tonight...so put me down for 1.5 hours of hockey. Unfortunately, didn't get my run in today, was too busy, but at least I got some exercise in!!!
Sorry to anyone I missed! Keep up the good work!

Welcome, Vicki! I "know" you from the olden days of the T-shirt DISigns monster thread. Glad to see you here!
I did a bit of cross-training with Dance Dance Revolution on Monday night. Not sure of the time (under an hour, I think) but the Workout Mode told me it was equivalent to 3.5 miles of jogging. I'll take it!
I had another informal 5K last night. It was 89 degrees with terrible humidity and air quality; my DH, who has asthma, had to drop out after the first quarter-mile. My ankle -- or peroneus brevis, if you want to be precise -- mostly held up during the race, but I had to limp down the stairs to get back to my car. Still sore today and looking at seeking out some PT soon.
Anywho... I did a 5K in 42'08" -- a PR for me, and almost 2.5 minutes faster than my last one. It was another DLF, but I did have other runners in my line of sight for more than the first mile, so I'm getting closer to the pack!

Lisa...sorry we are going to miss each other next week. Someone at work said we must go to the Lobster Shack near TwoLights park in Cape Elizabeth. I looked it up and the pictures look amazing. I saw on their website the 10K you were talking about. I am sad to miss it, so close!
Updates:
Monday...30 mins treadmill/1.31 miles
Tuesday...82 mins walk/5 miles
Wednesday...30 mins walk jog/2.08 miles
I hope to get on the treadmill or bike later tonight also!
MY GOAL for Race for the Taste is to be able to jog alot more than the Minnie thus finishing in a shorter amount of time. Although I've been walking long distances since the Minnie, I haven't really jogged much. Today, I took DD with me to a local park and while she was on the swings, I walked/jogged around the soccer field. I walked the long parts and jogged the short parts. I want to be able to jog the long parts and walk the short parts by RftT. Other than just getting out there and doing it, any other suggestions? So, I am putting it out there for everyone to see...I SET A GOAL AND WILL DO IT!Oh yeah, gotta say, I love my Garmin! :lovestruc

Good morning Goofs. Sorry for the MIA day. I was at the beach in 93 degree weather with my kidlets and their cousins. I know, a sad excuse but it is the truth!
I got my 4 in with the yucky stickiness of it all. Today is 7 miles. I really like this new plan. You run 25-30 miles when not in training and then your miles are actually cut back during the 5K or 10K training. They remain pretty much the same during the half training with lots of speed work and hills added in. So far it is working for me as I can maintain under a 10 mpm pace.
Suzanne: I cannot believe I am missing you either. You will be just about 1:30 away from me. :guilty: Field hockey camp and softball are really cramping my life right now!!
Maura: Sorry you are still hurting. If you W/R at a 10 mpm pace though I would not be too unhappy! :flower3:
Vicki: Welcome to the fray. We are a little crazy here but we usually stay in our cages. Congrats on the 6K, BTW any race counts double miles so I put you down for 8 miles. I will record it on this week if you don't mind. I do a 5K every October that is named after DH's grandmother. It was my first race ever just 2 short years ago!!
Mike: You will do great during your swim. You know you will. 11 more days and counting, yay!!!!! I cannot wait to read your report!
Beth: Thanks for the VA Beach info. I am pretty excited. There are lots of people interested in 2009. Mini WISH meet on tap. I think I can even get Dave and Erica to come!! Partay!!
Laurie: If I love VA Beach as much as Beth (and everyone else who has done it) it may be come an annual thing. Jeez, I cannot believe your future hubby would not want to honeymoon in VA just so you can run a half marathon....:sad2: I am making my family vacations center around races lately and there seems to be some mutiny afoot....:upsidedow
Angie: Noah's Ark run...:lmao: It could only happen to you!!!!
Everyone else, great job getting in the miles. We are holding our own in the standings and that is an improvement. During our transition of losing and gaining new members we fell behind a bit but we are definitely on the rebound and a new force to be reckoned with. If we all continue our efforts at fitness, I know we can overtake the leaders!!! Go Goofs Go!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Suzanne - I wanted to do Race for the Taste but I can't find any decent air fares. I may have to pass this year. :(

I got my 7 in last night. They were slow at a 10:45 pace due to the 85 degree heat. I wish I could run earlier when it was cooler but job constraints such as they are, I am an afternoon/evening runner. Softball and baseball celebration got in the way of that.
On the up side, I will be able to go to DD13 softball tourney this weekend. We only have 800 bales of hay down this time to pick up this afternoon. Yay!!! This should be it....until second crop in August. :sad2: I will forego my 4 miles this afternoon in lieu of about 4-5 hours of haying...again... I got 19 foot miles in this week so I am not going to complain...much...:rolleyes1

Hi everyone!
Sorry I have been awol for so long. Sick kids completely screw with your schedule!
DD is still fighting fevers and has now had reactions to her "designer" antibiotics. Fun fun. She doesn't feel too bad most of the time but we have to watch her like a hawk and record everything she eats drinks or touches. We watch a lot of movies and do jigsaw puzzles. exciting summer eh? We are taking her to Johns Hopkins next Thursday to see yet another specialist. He heard about her case from my dad's oncologist and called her doctor here. He "loves" difficult cases.
Anyway, I am running a little but its tough with my schedule so out of whack. And I have NO time on the computer at all. I have no idea how long we will be in Baltimore or how much I will get to run. They said come prepared to stay all weekend. Somehow I think the only running I will do is in the car.
So I think I was last on on July 4th. Hmm. Lisa I am just going to give you the total and not worry about posting each workout. They are pathetic anyway. This includes my run on the 4th. I can't remember if I posted it or not.

Angie, glad that worked for you.
As far as hot spots, this is all I could find, copied and pasted from another forum....no representation as to its veracity!
... hot spots (in PT we call them trigger points) are areas with a high concentration of nerve endings, particularly those that help to regulate overall muscle tone, (muscle spindles). When there is an irritant in the muscle, eg all the lovely things that cells release related to activity, especially increased activity, a neurological feedback loop gets kicked into play and you end up with trigger points. They are a reflection of irritation in the muscle.
Foam roller techniques work well. So does The Stick
www.thestick.com
and trigger point release therapy http://www.learn-massage-online.com/trigger-point.htm
The under lying cause is often a muscle imbalance or biomechanical issue that can be diagnosed by the appropriate healthcare professional.

Good morning Goofs. I am strapped for time still but I wanted to check in and cheer all of you on!! :cheer2: You are doing great this month. I will update the spreadsheet shortly.
I got no miles in this weekend but on the up side, DD13 softball team won the tourney. They had a great weekend and played stellar ball.
After the 4 hour haying on Friday my hours are great but my miles are only in the 19 range which I am disappointed with. Making a better effort this week but scheduling is still pretty tight.
Lawn mowing DOES count as long as it is a push mower and not the riding kind. I think that was the only question that needed clarification. If not, PM me and I will get the answer for you. I am a little scattered lately. Thank goodness I am listy or else I would lose my mind entirely!!
Have a great week Goofs and I will try and check in later!! :flower3:

Morning Goofs! (is it still morning?)
Thanks for the thoughts. DD is feeling better. On Friday afternoon her counts were down so there is hope that she will beat the bladder infection without antibiotics. We are still going to see the specialist though. Scary how dependent the medical community has become on antibiotics! We are seriously giving thought to going to alternative medicine for help in the future.
I ran the run portion of the Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon yesterday. My BIL and I WON our relay division!!!! (Mostly because he is an amazing swimmer and cyclist and not because of my blazing fast run.) Lucky me, I was the first relay runner on the course. Which meant I was running with the pros and the serious amateurs. Talk about a humbling experience! I don't usually get passed by people going THAT fast. sigh. At least we won which took some of the sting out of knowing that I will never pass anyone like that (unless they are bent over tying their shoes)
Anyway add this to our July totals:
6.2 miles in a race = 13.4
55:05 minutes = 110:10 (or do the minutes count extra too?)

Some teams are counting minutes as double on races. I never have. It was my understanding in the beginning that races counted as double which I took as miles only so I guess I will continue on this way unless someone has a serious objection. Please feel free to raise em if you got em. I will go along with whatever the majority feels. It will have to start from here though because I cannot go back and fix all the amounts at this point. I have a hard enough time keeping up with the spreadsheet week to week!!!
Love to the Goofs!!!

Cecilia Congrats on you race result! And an enviable time (well, I envy it anyway!)
Yesterday I ran 2.5 miles--which was the longest I have run in some time. The knee/hip stuff stayed mostly in check until I stopped to walk a bit (where oh where has my fitness gone?) And then I couldn't run again cause the right hip/knee yelled at me. But it was an improvement, so I'll keep hoping.
Today did 30 minutes at the gym on a bike (8.5 miles) and another 10 minute abs. Tonight I may take my new toy (Trek 1600 bike) over to a parking lot to practice clipping/unclipping my shoes from the pedals. Hopefully, I won't fall too many times.

Maura - I'm in the same postition as you regarding the clipless pedals. I just put them on my new road bike a little over a week ago and I fell the first day practicing with them. Ha! I'm going out for a longer bike ride tonight and I'll test those pedals out on the real roads. I'm actually a little nervous about it. :scared:
By the way, yay on the run. Here's more :wizard: for continued improvement.
Cecilia - congrats on coming in first in your relay event! :cool1: More :wizard: for your daughter.
Lisa - I changed Steve's hours from 4 to 2 based on pushing lawnmower time. That makes sense to do it this way. I just wasn't thinking when I posted earlier. As for the doubling of the minutes in events, I'll go along with whatever you all want to do. However, I think we need to be consistent with other teams. If only a few of them are doubling the minutes, then I'm game either way we do this.
By the way, if you need or want me to enter some hours for the team (mainly to give you a break!) I'll be happy to do so. :flower3:

Good morning Goofs. Nice to see everyone out there getting those workouts in. Mike, I am getting nervous for you. Thanks for posting the pic of you. Nice to put the face with the name. Now I stand a shot at finding you at an event!!
As for me, I got on my bike and got 12 miles in last night. It took me 1:00:25 so I was not setting a blistering pace but with the wind blowing in my face fairly hard, I feel it was a worthwhile adventure. I have 7-9 on tap for tonight depending on the time squeeze. DD13 has field hockey this morning and then softball this evening. The tourney is an hour drive each way hence the crunching sound you her while I am typing!!! :surfweb:
Angie, I am glad Mike got your Garmin up and running again. I would have used that excuse to get a 405. Of course, I would use ANY excuse to get a 405. :thumbsup2
Lynnielou, I very much dislike the TM (aka dreadmill) and I cannot force myself to run my normal pace on the darned thing. It just seems so much faster when I am running in place than it does out in the open air. I am an outside runner for sure. :cool2:
Susie: Thanks for offering to take some of the crunch away for me. Since they fixed my work computer, I can do it on my break now which makes it a lot easier for me. Not that I update it any faster.....:rolleyes1
Maura: Good luck with those clipless pedals. I went back to my regular ones. Definitely not totally serious about the tri yet, obviously. Tip #1: When you are riding with a 6yo do not, repeat do not, try to save him from going off the road while riding in clipless pedals. Insert horrendous crashing sound here.....:scared1: Yes we both survived but I decided that until I get a little more serious, I had better keep the regular pedals on.
Cecilia: :woohoo: for your run and if that is slow, hmmm, :snail:(this is me) :car: (this is you). I am glad to hear your DD is doing better.
Mike: Trigger point advice too? You do rock!! I have some great techniques for releasing trigger points if you or Angie needs some help. As a matter of fact, I did it this weekend on one of DD's softball teammates. She came 3 inches from a home run!!
Joanne: I put my TM in the basement for just that reason. Turn on a movie and ignore the world. It is torture enough for me being on the thing, I don't need "Mom, tell him to stop.....mom, she just...." :sad2:
All other Super Goofs: Keep up the good work. Together we can overtake the leaders (well maybe second place). We are one of the more cohesive and hard working groups in this competitiony type of thing that is not a competition but more of a game that no one technically wins but we all get the satisfaction of health thingy....:upsidedow
"When you put yourself on the line in a race and expose yourself to the unknown, you learn things about yourself that are very exciting"~Doris Brown Heritage.
I find this quote to be quite true for myself. I have learned more about myself as a person from racing than I have from most of my life experiences. I am strong. I can persevere. I do not need to win (this was a biggie for me). I can reach my goals. How about everyone else....:confused3

4.5 miles today in 44:45
I woke up late (5:10 AM is late?!) and didn't get coffee before my run. My running partner said not to do that again. Evidently I can't hold a conversation without coffee.

I blew off 20 minutes of my 40 minute swim today. I'll make it up later, but just couldn't do it. Actually, the string on my suit was pulled into the channel a little bit, so I couldn't tie it...every time I did a flip turn, my suit would "go with the flow"

Morning Goofs. I got in my 7 very slow miles yesterday. I was not feeling my usual magic. It was 85 degrees and high humidity again with a stiff breeze forcing the hot air in my face. It took me 1:18 and change so definitely not one of my more stellar runs but I got the miles in anyway. In 2 days I have more miles in than I did all last week. :sad2:
Today is either XT or rest. We got home at 10 p.m. from softball last night and up at 4 a.m. Needless to say, I would love the number of the bus that hit me but such is the life of a working mom of active kids. They got creamed on top of that!!
Have a great day Goofs. Mike good luck with that hotel room, I hope it will not be too hard to find a room. I booked my hotel for August and got my confirmation letter in the mail the same day. :woohoo:

I had to go out of town yesterday but I planned on being home in time to ride 20 miles on my bike. Well, that didn't happen. To make a long story short, I accidentally locked my keys in the trunk of my car while away and it took AAA 2 hours to come help me. By the time I got home, it was too late and I was too tired (and lazy) to go to the gym. :(

Just wanted to check in and say I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, but I haven't logged any minutes or miles lately either. I'm trying to baby my ankle/leg and let it really heal rather than the pattern I'd been doing of "baby it for a week, run/walk/limp a 5K, then limp for a week and try another run/walk/limp 5K." Obviously, that wasn't working for me since I'm still in pain.
I feel SO lazy not having done anything in 8 days. Gotta go for a swim or at least pedal on an arm bike at the gym before I go out of my mind! I will be sure to post back here once I do one (or both!) of these activities.

Good morning Goofs. Much PD to those nursing injuries right now. Rest is best but I know that is easier said than done. I can usually find something else to do, even if it is not in the best interest of my injury!! :sad2:
I have updated the July totals from last week. We have 325.78 miles and 68.63 hours added on for last week. We are currently in second place for July and fourth place in the overall standings. Not too bad for a bunch of goofs!!! :cheer2:
I took yesterday off to rest my abscess. It is less swollen and red today so hopefully I am on the mend. I had 4 on for today with hills and 8 for tomorrow but the humidity is supposed to be worse tomorrow so I will swap the days. So, 8 for today with 6 at my 10K pace if I can maintain it this time. A good test of my ability to do this 10K in under 1 hour. :scared: Wish me luck everyone!! Oh and I passed my Health Risk Assessment in the low category. I am prehypertensive (who knew that a systolic BP of 124 made you prehypertensive?) and with the family history of colon cancer and my asthma, that gave me something to work on for next time. I got a $75 AE gift card. If I fill out a paper that I did something fitness related for the next 12 weeks (what are the chances of that?) I get another $75 gift card and after my annual doc visit I get another $50 gift card. Finally, someone will pay me for being healthy.......:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Good morning Goofs. Last chance workout day for this week has arrived!!! :cool1: So, lets get out there and finish this week big!! :cheer2:
I did get my 8 miles in yesterday. It was 87 degrees and pure torture. I had to resort to a run 4/walk 1 routine because I just could not take the heat. I also ran with my water which tends to slow me down a bit for some silly reason. I always think I can feel the water dripping down my legs and such. :sad2: Anyway, I got the 8 miles with an 11:16 pace which is really disturbing to me since last week I did it with a 10:45 pace but this is a morning run compared to an afternoon run so I will just go with that... Apparently, I am an early runner. Something new to discover about myself.
Today is the "easy run" for which I will do 3-4 miles, then six 10 second hill sprints. The temp should be about the same but the humidity will be higher. Tomorrow, we are headed to Crescent Beach which is were my 10K in August starts so I will get a little familiar with part of the route. I hear there is a big hill at the end. Why do they reserve the hill for the end. IMHO, the last 2-ish miles should be all downhill!!!!

Good morning Goofs. Just touching base at the end of a great weekend. We had an awesome time at the beach yesterday. I got to see the starting line of the Beach to Beacon 10K and we followed the route for about 2 miles. Small rolling hills which I can definitely handle easy enough. Apparently there is a big uphill at the end...oh well...:confused3
Suzanne: I am hoping that you did not venture into the water at OOB during your stay there. I went in yesterday and could not breathe for about 10 minutes afterward. I boogie boarded with my son and discovered that if you get dumped off the board, the further down you went the colder it got!! :scared1:
Beth: Yay for your 5K time. I hope you are happy with that!! Great job.
Mike: We are all anxiously awaiting the 1/2 Ironman report and results...:rolleyes1 I hope it was a great experience for you!
Everyone else: I hope your weekend is full of fun!!

I am putting the following players on inactive status: ArelysAdriana, Raenstoirm, Disneyluv, JimmDuck, Uptown_Girl44 and Princess Vija. If any of the aforementioned would like to be reinstated, please contact Windwalker, aka, the Great Panda.
As for me, I have 9-14 miles today. Guess which I am opting for????!!!! It should not be quite as hot as Thursday and I may be able to have a fairly decent time. I figure under 2 hours is a win considering my times lately. A HUGE congratulations out to Mike. You rock!!!
I did 8.5 miles on Sunday. I tried for 9 but my calculations were a bit off and to get the other .5 in it was all uphill so I gave in. I took yesterday off from work with a headache and upset stomach. Of course, I did try to get a workout in to see if it made me feel better. I rode 15 miles on my bike and no, it did not. So I rested the remainder of the day.

Biggest difference from last years beach vacation to this year...last year I got up each morning at 8am and went to Dunkin Donuts for bagels and donuts for breakfast...this year I got up each morning at 7:30am and walked/ran on the beach with my Garmin. Yeah ME! :yay:

This is one of the premier 10Ks in the country and there will be some serious runners there. :scared: I get pretty intimidated by them but at least it is a point to point and I don't have to meet them coming back when I am at mile 2!! :upsidedow I have 8.25 to 10.25 on tap for today. I am supposed to run the 6.25 at my 10K pace. Fingers crossed people. I need all the help and support I can get.
I will report back in on Monday. Softball rules as my DD13 says!! Well, it sure does rule my life lately....:scratchin Later days Goofs!!!

So, say I had been being really good about food choices and training, and had a reason to celebrate too, so I was going to have a steak and potato dinner (which I NEVER do anymore)...would my best choice be to have it the night before a long run (long for me...7 miles) or the night after said run?

Angie, how does your stomach react to running after a heavy meal?
I would say you would want to eat that within an hour of running, to maximize the protein absorption from the steak, and the glycogen and carb absorption from the potatoes.
Good luck!

I finally feel like a C25K graduate today! My ankle had first started bothering me when I hit Week 7, so I never managed to last more than 28 minutes without having to take a walk break. I did a dreadmill run today and finally managed to run for a solid 30 minutes! :cool1:
Including my warm-up and cool-down walks, I went 3.05 miles in 40 minutes.
Another point of pride: I never went slower than a 15-minute-mile pace. I'm starting to truly believe I will go home from RftT with a finisher's medal! Unfortunately, Nike Plus isn't proud of me -- I just realized today should have been a 5-mile run as part of my 10K training that apparently started on Tuesday, not to mention the fact that I skipped the run it wanted me to do on Thursday. Whoops!!! Guess I'll have to check that Training program more frequently!

Friday total:
Time: 2:30
Miles: 10
I did a 9 mile run with a friend, and mowed the grass on top of it all!
Saturday total: I did a local 5 mile race that was the BEST local race I have done before. They had chip timing, a goodie bag from Johnson and Johnson company with full bottles of lotion, sun tan lotion, mouthwash, etc. Probably close to $35 to $40 worth of stuff. They had iced towels at the end. Water stops every mile. LOTS of free food and drinks at the end. It was great. All the registration monies went to breast cancer research.
Time: 57:00
Miles: 5 (to count double for 10 miles)

Hi Goofs!
I just got back from Texas where Steve and I participated in a bike ride in Cleburne called the Tour de Goatneck. I rode the 27 mile route with a friend and Steve did the 41 mile route. The course was challenging for me as it was very hilly.
On our 27-miler, there were 3 rest stops. That's a lot for that short of distance. Each one had a theme as well. They were all fantastic. Beth mentioned in a previous post that she participated in one of the best local race and that's the way I feel about the Goatneck. All of the volunteers were super friendly and they had the best stocked water-stops of any race I've ever particpated in.
My favorite stop was the final stop - the Luau. Fans, misters and chairs were provided as well as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, pickles, several kinds of chocolates, Bugle chips (anyone remember those from way back ;) ), cookies, doughnuts and ice-cold, wet sponges. And, the volunteers refilled our water bottles with ice if we wanted. It was wonderful. Cindy and I took our time at the water stops (and on the course). I think this is the first race that I actually gained some weight. :rolleyes1
Here's our hours for the weekend:
Saturday, July 26:
Susie: 27 miles (54 doubled), 2 hours 40 minutes.
Steve: 41 miles (82 doubled), 2 hours 25 minutes.

I went out for a quick mile while DH and the kidlets played in the park. I finished in under 10:30, and I think that's a PR for me. (How sad is that? But I'm happy with it.) After that we went out for ice cream, which should probably make that mile count as a negative five miles, but it was yummy.
In other news, I just signed up to go to an informational meeting for TnT. The local chapter's brochure featured the 2009 WDW half and full marathon as well as the much-more-local Mercedes half and full. I'd been toying around with the idea of running one of these two half marathons, so I guess fate was trying to tell me something when the brochure came in the mail!

Good morning Goofs. It has been a long hot weekend for me. DD team did horrible and I spent most of yesterday doing my laundry and getting caught up for the week. They lost twice to a team that they mercy ruled a few weeks ago, go figure.
I have updated the spreadsheet and am very happy and proud to tell you that for the month of July (yes it is already over according to the spreadsheet) we are in 2nd place in the team miles standings!! :cool1: We are lacking under 100 miles from being in 3rd place in the overall miles standings!! :woohoo: How awesome is that? Heck, it might even be classified as super!!! :cool2:
I still have no miles reported for Cruella de mom, Groovygirls and HockeyGirl so their miles could potentially put us in third place. We have battled hard for this!!! :worship:

Fellow Goofs, Nice work!!!
Today was 65 minutes, 18.4 miles on the bike.
Starting marathon training, and I finally worked out a schedule that allows me to have a weekend day with no training and no work :woohoo:
Lisa, sorry for your daughter's losses and lousy weekend...is it possible her team took them lightly and expected a cruise win?
Happened to my daughter's team when I was coaching them...I worked them so hard the in every practice after that, they looked forward to games since they were easier than my practices...Some of em have come up to me years later (She stopped playing so I stopped coaching 5 years ago) and thanked me for being so hard on them, and expecting them to perform...

Mike, I think it was just a bad weekend for all of them. They never had a base runner on Sunday until the 5th inning if that tells you anything. Their pitcher was not that fast either but apparently effective. My DD usually plays third and the opposing team started bunting to beat the band as we have a slower, bigger catcher. Shortly after they scored their 3 runs in one inning by bunting, stealing, mix and repeat, they put my DD in as catcher. The pitcher was off, bats were off, you name it, just a bad weekend for softball. :confused3
They usually play poorly in the morning anyway but this was just really bad. I did ride my bike to the game (missing the first 3 innings due to work/ride). I got 16.5 miles in 1:15 so I don't feel so bad about the day. It was supposed to be 7 miles but, if I had put off my run thinking they would not do well, they would have. :sad2:
Nice to hear that the girls appreciated you though. Which marathon are you doing? Have you given any though to ToT??????????? :rolleyes1

Mike, have you done the Chicago Distance Run? I know there are a lot signed up for that one and I wanted to put it on my to do list, maybe for next year. I am anxiously awaiting Liz (TwoWDWfools) report. We are all also considering the Country Music half next year and definitely the Rock N Roll VA Beach half. Interested in either? I like these little WISH meets like we had at the Great Bay Half earlier. Getting to see friends and spending time here and there through the year.
I am not going to be in WDW for the marathon (insert crying like a baby sound here) so I like seeing everyone during the year. ToT is it for WDW for me until Goofy 2010 unless DD13 gets to go with the field hockey team. She is the goalie and they really do not have another one. Mike We all have those days. Given the state of the auto industry, which I'm in, even "those days" are better than the alternative of being unemployed. Although there are times.....;)
So after an unproductive weekend exercise-wise and oversleeping today, I decided to leave work a little early and get in a decent workout. Did 40 hard minutes on the bike (12 miles) and another 20 of ab work and stuff. Also, last Friday I did a 40 minute swim for 2/3 mile. Still nursing the hip/knees and so no runninf for me for a while. Will just have to make up for it in other ways. (Although the biking does rack up the team miles!)

Hi Goofs,
I did not really mean to let the team down for the month by missing all of last week and certainly not meeting my goal in exercise time. RL has been really getting the way of late. I am planning to get back on track for August for sure. I feel "cruddy" when I do not exercise and no one is to blame but me. However, I have started working at home on the weekends now so that also cuts into my "me" time but need to pay the bills. DH has started working a temporary job on 2nd shift and that will help the household budget. With him working afternoons that means I can get home from work, exercise and then get dinner etc.
Tonight I did 45 minutes for 3.3 miles outside, it was fantastic.

I was at an outdoor party. There was a hole/divut in the grass. I stepped in it and my foot inverted.
I spent the day on the phone trying to get into a doctor. I ended up needing a referral and my previous doctor does not take my current insurance. So I had to go to a new doctor, for an appointment so they could see me so I could get a referral. Tomorrow I have to go the orthopedic doctor. Good morning Goofs. I hope everyone had a great day yesterday. I did my 7 as planned. The first was a 11:30 and the last was an 11:35 with the tweeners being 9:30 to 9:50. An overall satisfying pre-race run. Yippee for taper madness!!!! :lmao: I would like to run today but my running will consist of driving an hour to a staff meeting and then an hour and a half in the other direction to the final softball game of the summer. Late night tonight and way too early a morning tomorrow. I have to drive my mom in for testing. Needless to say, I am looking forward to my run tomorrow!!! :thumbsup2
Lynnielou: I did not post numbers to make anyone feel inadequate. Had I know it was going to do that, I would have never posted them. You are a VERY important part of our team and we take the miles and minutes that everyone posts toward the total for the team. We have all had LTO moments. Some have even left the team due to them. You get extra credit for sticking with it!! :flower3:
ReAnSt: Good luck at the ortho. I hope it is not something too serious. I had a fracture of the 5th metatarsal when I played basketball. hello!
We are home from Maryland! Not that the trip could be called super successful, but it was worth a shot. DD is definately on the mend. Now the only worry is what to do the next time she gets sick. However, even that isn't as terrible as it sounds. The Doc thinks that she might just be reacting to all the antibiotics because she is sick. Sounds strange but when he said it, it made sense. We are going to get her completely healthy and have someone here in Ga repeat the allergy tests and he will reevaluate things when he sees those results.
I didn't get a single run in while we were there. I did however do an enormous amount of walking. So much walking that my legs and feet actually hurt! Our hotel was about 2.2 miles from the hospital and I often walked back and forth when I was alone to save money. There were too many street lights to bother running.
Lisa - put me down for 30.8 miles of walking. I think I did the trip 14 times so that would add up, I think. It took me about 35 minutes a trip with the lights so thats about 7 hours of walking.
Today, I officially started training. 4.5 miles in 44 minutes. Not bad for slacking off for over a week!

Hello everyone, a long time for me. Sorry - had the trial schedule from hell in June and was away for most of July on vacation.
Am earnestly training now for the Spacecoast half the end of November and have no more time to waste.
A little panicky, but am taking it one day at a time. Everyone knows that it is not so much about what happens on race day as it is what happens in the training days leading up to it. That is what I am focusing on.
Anyway, worked out 45 minutes yesterday and Monday.
Another 45 or so planned for today.
Am sticking to treddy for now, will do long walks outside though until it gets cooler out.
Actually, I get hotter on the treadmill, that, in itself, might be good training for possible Florida heatwaves in November.
Hope I can still be part of this team, and I will be much more consistent.

P.S. Next "race" is a 10k fund raiser for Arthritis Society on August 28th.

They were showing the start of last years Beach to Beacon on the news yesterday morning and my DH was looking at all the runners. He says, doesn't that make you nervous? and of course I say, um, no. Keep up all the great work in my absence Goofs. I will be thinking of everyone this weekend while I am away racing, beaching and oh, today is my 15th wedding anniversary :scared1: . I know, DH cannot believe I have not killed him either. He left at 3:30 this morning to haul logs and I won't see him until 7 or 8 tonight so....Happy Anniversary!!! Hence my being gone on the extended weekend for 2!!
Have a great weekend everyone and thanks again for being such an awesome team!!! :grouphug:

Run like the wind Lisa!
Mike - Sometimes those slow runs do you way more good than you realize at the time. Heat and humidity could play a part and if so, then its better to slow down.
Maura - thanks for the good thoughts! I have been saying for the past two years that it was a miracle we all stayed well while I was training.
Gees. 8 am and the temp is already 89.7 .......I am beginning to hate summer.

Cecelia: Thank you for the encouragement...heat/humidity do work me over badly...I lost 4 lbs on a 7 mile run, and thats after taking in 20 oz of Cytomax during the run!
Lisa: have a wonderful weekend/race, and we'll see you Monday!
Goofs rule...all others drool!

Mike: I slow down in the heat/humidity too. I pushed myself yesterday as it was "only" 3 miles and I still lost 1.5 pounds.
Cecilia: I will be happy if I can run like you and/or Mike!! :scared:
Thanks for the happy thoughts everyone. I am headed off for the weekend. Keep sending the fleet feet thoughts. :wizard:

Hello Super Goofs!!!!
I figured since it is the last day of the month, I need to come on here and give my monthly total for July....and I did notice that we are close to moving up a position so hopefully my miles/times will help!!!! I apologize for not getting on here to post much, I have been really busy!! But I continue to get my workouts in, and I am very excited that a new 24-hour Fitness is opening right down the street from my house, and I JOINED today!!! It opens tomorrow, and I am so excited...it has all the fitness equipment but I am most excited about the POOL!! I am going to start swimming, so that will be extra miles for me!!!
Here is what I have tallied up for the whole month of July (Lisa-this includes what I already posted for the month..so this will be the totals!)
Running Miles: 80 miles/14 hours 22 min ( I think I did that correctly!)
Hockey Games: 8 Games at 1.5 hours apiece=720 minutes of hockey
That is about it!! Hopefully in August I will keep up with my posting!!!
Keep up the good work everyone!!

Suzanne Anyone who gets on a treadmill at 2:30 in the morning deserves bonus credit!!
I've been crazed at work and tired for the last two days, but hope to duck out early today and go for a swim at the gym. DH is back home after a 2 week business trip to Europe and then in 1 week I'm off to Disney with my DD and sister and family.

Hey Goofs!
I've been a little lazy this week with a slight back problem. My mileage and hours are very little considering I have a half marathon next weekend to prepare for. :sad2:
Lisa, I'm out of the loop with what all is going on but add me in to the list of your admirers. Your spirit and enthusiasm and support are greatly appreciated. Sorry this is late: GOOD LUCK ON YOUR RACE THIS WEEKEND!!! :cheer2: Maybe this will reach you in spirit.
Cecilia, welcome back! I'm glad your daughter continues to improve.
Beth, I'll admit - I'm not a good communicator at times. I try to add humor in situations to lighten the mood only for it to come back and bite me sometimes. Or, I'll say snarky things but not meaning to be mean but it is taken the wrong way. Sometimes, I'm just better off not saying anything. Lord knows, I've done my share of miscommunicating on the WISH board. :guilty:
Here's our hours for the week. We have an 8-miler scheduled for tomorrow. The heat index is supposed to reach 115 degrees. :scared1: I'll either do my miles on the treadmill or early, early morning.
Mike, are you going to do the CDC?
Wednesday, July 30:
Susie: 3 miles, 1 hour
Steve: 3 miles, 1 hour
Thursday, July 31:
Steve: 1 hour

I didn't realize that the CDC was next weekend, I have the Naperville Triathlon to do...
Maybe I can meet up with you folks on Friday night if you are in town!
PM me!

I haven't had a chance to check and see if I'm still part of the team, as I'm coming back off of a long hiatus, but I'm hoping to get back in the swing of things in Aug., so I hope I can still call myself a Super Goof.
The move is over...I officially arrived in Oklahoma last week and still have a house full of boxes, but OKC (Edmond) seems to be a nice place and everyone here seems to be very friendly, so although we didn't know what to expect in coming here, we are pleasantly surprised.
Lisa: I don't fully understand what's going on w/ you and your MIA status, because I haven't been following the posts, but I hope you are not leaving us. For what it's worth...you are an inspiration to all of us, and I personally appreciate your energy and motivation...I don't know how you do it.

Mike - unfortunately, we don't arrive in Chicago until Sat. around noon. I think we're all going to get together to go eat lunch about that time. We'd love to have you meet with us if you are available. Another TRI? :teeth: WOW!!!! I think I might try to do a sprint next Spring. I don't think I could handle a half-Iron Man. :scared:
Shannon - welcome back! And welcome to the heat and humidity of the South. :scared: Hope to see you at the OKC Memorial Weekend festivities next April!

Saturday, Aug. 2:

Hi Goofs!
I am trying to get back into training mode. The heat is killer though!
6.2 miles today in 59:55
Mike - you are amazing! I just wish they would come up with better names for the half ironman and half marathon distances. The half is so completely inappropriate.
Guess what they are building about a quater mile from my house? A new Running Trail!! Eventually it will hook up with the trail I currently do most of my runs on and will be a continous 20 mile trail!!! I cheered the construction guys when I saw them clearing the trail yesterday, they probably think I am insane.

Hi Guys- sorry I was MIA but I was at the Cape for two weeks! I had a blast and I did get some running in. The times and exact dates are lost in the wind but the distances are 3-5-3-7 miles week one the 3-6-3-10 for week two.
Back to training at home
Missed you guys!

Cecilia Good news on your trail. That should be something to look forward to. Hope it's done soon.
I made up for not working out Friday or Thursday by riding today with my DH. Did 26.2 miles in 1:45. Top speed (downhill only) of 35+ mph. Hard to imagine the guys of the TDF maintaing that pace throughout a whole stage.
