The crowds shouldn't be too bad. I'm not sure what the last days of August are like, but last year we arrived on Sept 1 for a week stay & there were NO problems with crowds at all. I think the longest wait for any ride we did was 20 minutes & we never used a fastpass. There were a few times we could actually stay on the ride & ride it again because there was no wait. We're hoping for a similar experience this year!

It may be busier this year than in past years, but I can't imagine it would be crazy busy like some of the peak times of the year. The only thing I'm worried about right now is tropical storms - this is the only thing I don't like about going this time of year - I anxiously watch the tropical update on the weather channel ritualistically.

And yes, time has definitely slowed down this week!

I also wanted to say that this will be our 4th year of Free Dining, and we go over Labor Day weekend & the following week every year. Back in 2005 the crowds were nonexistant, it was so dead it was almost creepy! 2006 was a little higher attendance but really still not busy at all.

Last year I noticed a marked increase in crowds -- I still wouldn't call it "busy" compared to other times we've gone (even January was busier) but definitely more people around. I think we were in MGM on Labor Day last year (or was it the day before?) and the streets were difficult to navigate with a stroller but the wait times were still minimal, many walk-ons, and the crowds dropped sharply the following week. I did notice last year there were a lot less "Magical Moment" certificate opportunities and it seemed like less one-on-one CM interaction due to the higher crowds. Again, it was nowhere near crowded, just more people in the streets & restaurants than in prior years.

I'm hoping that this year attendance will be back down. With the rise in gas/airfare/general cost of living prices, I'd imagine there are less people vacationing in general. Last year the Pirate & Princess Party seemed to draw a lot of people, as did the Magical Beginnings program with the Little Ones EMH's and the Playhouse Disney concerts - those are all gone this year. Of course with the earlier MNSSHP, who knows?!

I'm also hoping the weather will be a factor - in 2005 there was a big tropical storm sitting just off the coast during our trip and so many people cancelled their vacations, the parks were really empty. We were the only people at the Pocohontas show and got a private showing, they brought the animals down off the stage for us to look at and touch and it was really neat. Long story short (oops too late!) I'm hoping the bad weather will keep people away. The storms can also help cool down those hot hot days making it nice and cloudy which is another plus! Just as long as the storms don't actually hit, I think it's a great time to go to WDW.

Each week through Labor Day, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort will choose a guest to receive a gas rebate of $1 per mile roundtrip. If that guest is driving a hybrid, he will also receive free valet parking.

I agree this is good news for us :thumbsup2 , but unfortunately it looks like it will be really bad news for somewhere else. The forecast can definitely change, but the current path appears for Gustav to head into the gulf & strengthen to at least a Cat 3. The forecast model which predicted Fay's path correctly predicts Gustav to head directly to Louisana :scared1: :scared1:

The forecast can definitely change, but the current path appears for Gustav to head into the gulf & strengthen to at least a Cat 3. The forecast model which predicted Fay's path correctly predicts Gustav to head directly to Louisana :scared1: :scared1:


Yeah your right...it is great news for us but I hope it doesn't turn out to be another disaster! The last time we had a real hurricane threat to worry about ruining our vacation it turned out to be Katrina! Talk about feeling guilty. As we were sitting in our Soundfront vacation house enjoying the beautiful weather, we were watching the catastrophe unfold on television! In the days leading up to it we kept talking about how we hope this one doesn't ruin our trip the way so many previous ones had. I think I felt guilty for months! We got smart this year. We arrive on Labor Day just when everyone else is heading home. In 2007 we arrived on the Thursday before Labor Day and paid the price over the busy holiday weekend. After Monday the crowds were gone, except for resturants which were full due to free dining. This year we are hoping for the same light crowds during the week after Labor Day.

FWIW, the Weather Channel's forecast for next week looks pretty good: basically 30-40% chance of rain each day - typical FL weather - chance of a shower or two each day. As long as we don't have to deal with any tropical systems, I'll be thrilled!

Yeah, I mean he knows I'm kidding, but really I'm kinda serious. He started
1st grade last week, and on the 3rd day of school fell and scraped up his knee, elbow and nose pretty bad, and then last Friday he fell on the trampoline and split his head open. It wasn't horrible, but we had to go to the ER and he had to get 1 staple:sad2: He got it out yesterday though, so so far we're looking better. Hopefully that'll be the last injury for a loooong time.

I think I'd better buy her some cold meds so she can get better!!

We are going to the MNSSHP on 9/5 -- next Friday already! -- and just TODAY my mom decided us grownups should wear costumes after all! In between my working 2 jobs & taking care of 2 kiddos, somehow I'm supposed to help her make some Mouseketeer outfits. She is on the hunt as we speak for some white tshirts and iron-on letters, and I'm on a mission to find some Mouseketeer logos to print out on sticker paper and stick on our old TDS mouse ears. Gah! Way to wait until the last minute, Mom... it's not like we're leaving in 38 hours or anything!!

Confession time: I haven't yet bought DD9's MNSSHP costume either. That's on the list for today. Maybe Mom should dress as a tree, and I should be the apple who isn't falling far. :rolleyes:

I'm not sure about WDW's hurricane plan. Right now, I wouldn't worry about it. Forecasts can change, but right now no matter how strong Hannah gets, it should be eventually heading southwest towards the Bahamas around Wed 9/3 and should not be a factor for WDW.

I just saw that he was in a parade at the MK today... is he going to be there tomorrow too? We'd miss him anyway, because we're not hitting the parks until Sunday. I don't know if I can stand being RIGHT THERE and not going into a park, but we have lots of other fun Disney stuff planned.

:rotfl: I'm 36 and I'm not a big fan of flying either, however you just can't beat a 2 hour trip to get there. There's no way I would want to spend ALL that time driving or riding in a train. My parents drove us down when I was 8 years old: somewhere between a 14-20 hour drive over 2 days :scared1: NO WAY - flying makes me nervous but I can suck it up and deal with it for 2 short hours.
