I saw this last night before I went to bed. So I just gave my kids a lecture this morning over breakfast about what "restricted" means. I used this accident as an example (my kids are older - they can handle the details).
I actually started out by asking my DS13 what he would do if his hat blew off while he's riding a roller coaster. His reply: "Leave it." Good boy!
But I did explain the whole story and told him that if he ever has a friend stupid enough to do that, then he should tell the friend he'll wait on the other side of the fence - ready with the cell phone to call 911.
Such a tragic loss of a young life. :sad2:

How terrible for the family. I heard about this yesterday and could only shake my head. He should've known better. He was apparently there with his family, but I don't know if they were around at the time or not.

It only takes a minute to make a poor decision that affects the rest of our lives. I share that often with my own children and with my students. I feel badly for the family. I guess that is what happens when people can't follow simple posted rules and use common sense. Seems rediculous that this even happened since obvious attention wasn't paid to obvious directions.

Did you look at the amusement park tragedy photo section? I freaked when I saw that people were stuck upside down on one ride for thirty minutes. I have always been scared something like that would happen!

Decapitated!?!? Holy crap! What an awful way to go. The guy was an idiot for going in a restricted area, but so sad that he (& his family) suffered so badly for his stupidity.

Can you imagine the headaches they all had after having all the blood rushing to their heads for that long?

I live 15 minutes from Oshkosh, WI and we have been to Life Fest several times. I can't imagine how horrible that was, it was in all of the papers last year.

Go tell an employee/ cast member! Don't EVER try and do something like that yourself. Its so sad it happened to someone so young, a real waste.

Very sad. A kid with a church group, no less...
I just hope readers don't fall prey to the media tactic at end of the article. It references a Louisville, KY incident which *WAS* the park's fault and by virtue of putting them together seems to imply a pattern. Shame on the AP. These are entirely different circumstances, sad though both may be...

I'm so sad for his family, a nice day out turns into a tragedy
I cannot watch Final Destination 3 anymore, saw it once and found it very hard to go on a coaster after that

I believe this would be a good example of thinning the herd. It is sad for his family but unfortunately sometimes the consequence of not following directions is a decapitation.
