It has been announced that as of January 2009 Goofy’s Liberate Your Appetite Character Dinner will no longer be offered at Liberty Tree Tavern. Not only are they removing the characters but Dinner will remain the same including PRICE! This is not acceptible. This is once again lowering the Overall Guest Experiance by presenting a lessened experiance to guest without any adjustments made to price. I know alot of people at Liberty Tree who this will effect and I am not happy about it. I have made a petition in hopes to stop this from happening. Please, PLEASE, sign it. Every voice counts. This is a popular experiance that can be saved!!!! PLEASE HELP SAVE IT! This is the first time I have ever felt this strongly about a particular subject. This means alot to me, the Cast Members at Liberty Tree, and the characters. Not only is this a popular place for guest to visit but also the Characters really love being there as well. Please help make a Difference.
You can find the petition at this link: http://www.gopetition.com.au/online/20175.html Please send this to as many friends as possible! Also feel free to post this pitition in other Disney Forums as well as any other online comunnity you are apart of!

i don't agree with stopping disney from changing liberty tree away from character. i used to eat there for dinner before it was character and it was a great place for an adult with no children to get away from it all. right now there isn't many options for adults to get away in the magic kingdom. every year disney seems to add character meals in each park, such as tusker house and norway in epcot. i feel it is ok to switch things up a bit.

Exactly, I read a post a minute ago where if the poster had not read a closed thread she would have had no idea to look here. All this needs to go back to the dining boards, so the misinformed dining guest will learn the news.

I think prices at all restaurants, Disney and not, are going to really climb with today's economy.
Either way LTT would come out bad in this. Raise prices and keep the characters, or eliminate the characters and keep prices the same.
I wonder what they actually receive in $ from DDP guests and if this is part of the result. :confused3
I would like to see some meals with characters, such as hard ticket MK event nights. (MNSSHP as an example.)
However it will be interesting to see if their number of guests decrease.
Esp on hard ticket party nights guests hard a hard time booking LTT. Maybe this will remove some of that difficulty.

I have no problem with removing a character dinner since I feel that Disney has over done it with high prices to have a few characters running around. I miss dining here & at Norway (which is even worse) due to over priced character meals. I am ticked off that they removed the character & kept the high price. This amounts to a very large increase in price for what you are getting. If they need to raise prices ok, take the premium for character meal off then raise it a couple of bucks. What a back door way to rip more money from everyone.

I've yet to agree with Gary on this one. Before the character meals LTT was a nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle you find in most of MK. After the characters arrived the atmosphere changed immensely and a not necessarily for the best. I know the kids love having the character meal but there are many others available so why not let a few places be available where a quiet meal can be had. :rolleyes1

Where are the "many others"??? I haven't been to WDW for over 20 years but from the info I have gathered online, it doesn't look like there are very many character meals (esp those that include the classic characters). The few that are available seem to book up fast so it seems there are a lot of ppl who enjoy them. I've seen menus for many non-character restaurants so IMO there are more than enough of those for ppl who do not enjoy the characters.
I don't have a problem with Disney changing things but the problem I have is that they are making changes AFTER ppl have already made their ressies. Not in the case of LTT but for the Garden Grill. They are canceling lunch starting Oct. 5th and those of us who have had our ADR for a while are just out of luck. What are those ppl supposed to tell their kids? "I'm sorry honey but Mickey has canceled lunch." They should have at least waited until the 1st of the year like LTT so they wouldn't have to cancel anyone's ADR.
I'm so upset about this that I have been working on changes to my plans to include a lot more non-Disney activities. I would even cancel the entire trip if it weren't for not wanting to disappoint my kids. Isn't Disney supposed to be about making kids dreams come true? If so, why would they do something to disappoint them so much? Like I said, I wouldn't have a problem if they would have given 180 day notice so no one would have to change or lose their ADR. I'm sure with all of the ppl that will be effected by this, it will be impossible to even switch to another character meal this late.
Sorry for this rant but I am just VERY upset with Disney right now. I'm sure all of those who have an ADR at a nice quiet restaurant would be just as upset if they were suddenly told that their ressie would now be character dining.

Tusker house was not an added character meal. It was a relocated character meal from Dinoland.
To date the character meals are:
Liberty Tree Tavern (Dinner Only soon to be never)
Crystal Palace
Cindy's Royal Table
Chef Mickey's (Breakfast and Dinner Only)
Ohana's (Breakfast Only)
Tusker House (Breakfast Only)
Cap May's (Breakfast Only)
Norway
Garden Grill (soon to be Dinner Only)
Play and Dine (Lunch and Breakfast Only)
That's ten restaurants out of a total of how many in WDW? Guest constantly have trouble making ADR's and want more opportunities to dine with characters. If you don't like characters there are plenty of other place in the world you can eat or time of a day you can eat at.
The reason why I am working to Save LTT is not because it is a character meal, but because it is popular with guest and the characters.

I really hope this is a rumor. LTT was on my list for next June. My DS will be 8 and we don't stand in lines for character greetings unless it is a rare sighting. But he likes the character meals with the classic characters. If you take out the classic characters there is not many characters for boys.

This is not a rumor. Upper management personally came in and informed the servers and characters of this change. We have seen plenty of times on these boards and other web sites that Disney does not need to make an offcial anouncment for changes to happen.

I'm personally disappointed that they are removing the character meal at LTT. It's my favorite character meal. The food is good, and the classic characters are a lot of fun. My boys LOVE the interaction with chip n dale, pluto, and goofy. Also, I don't really care for buffets - this family style service is perfect. We will miss it terribly.
Winnie the Pooh is really more geared for very young children, the princess stuff is not interesting for my boys, Play and Dine is so loud I cannot imagine dining there ever again. Garden Grill - we've eaten there several times, for lunch and dinner - while the character interaction was great - the food has been worse each visit. We'll be doing less character dining now. :sad1:

I did sign this petition even though we weren't planning to go there this trip. I guess now we never will. We will be eating all of our meals off site except for a couple of character meals. That's what makes Disney dining so special for us---The Characters. Without them I'd rather save money and eat elsewhere. I wish you lots of luck. Hope the petition works. :thumbsup2
Now, when is someone going to start a petition to save lunch at the Garden Grill. :confused3

This doesn't look any more official than anything else. Yes, it's on a website but that site isn't an official Disney site. They could write that Disney was going to drop ticket prices to $25.00 but it wouldn't be true until Disney announces it officially. Hope I didn't start a rumor by mentioning $25.00 ticket prices! :rotfl:

I have been reading several different threads and posts on this issue today. Mainly because my family and I love LTT character dining. Personally, to respond first to another poster about the amount of character dining available in Disney. Most of the character dining experiences are at the resorts and not in the parks. My son likes Chip and Dale, Pluto and Goofy which made the LTT perfect for us. As for the noise level in Disney, they make restaurants geared more for adults where I feel that you would probably experience and rightfully expect a quiet diner. To me, I feel that it is Magic Kingdom which in my opinion is geared more children and the restaurants ought to appeal to them. But again this is my opinion.
Now, on to your statement about this being no more the possibilityof a rumor. I really had hoped this was the case but I did on another thread read that a fellow Disney enthusiast called to inquire of this change today and it was verified by Disney. :sad1:

Sorry but I can't sign the petition and I've also emailed Disney thanking them for making this decision. This used to be and hopefully will be in the future the only quiet sit down restaurant in Magic Kingdom. There are several other character meals available for those who enjoy them so having one quiet nine character meal available for those who don't enjoy them is a great idea!

I am sorry but it is not the only none character meal in MK there is The Plaza and Tony's.
It is the only meal in MK with the classic characters - and I do believe that there should be at least one in the 'Classic' park. It is also one of the few character meals served family style for those that don't like buffets.
I will be emailing WDW to complain.

Good luck with the petition. As a former cast member, I can tell you that once Disney decides to do something, they don't change their minds back. And it is true about both restaurants. I called to plan my trip and asked the CM taking my reservation. He reluctatly told me about both restaurants. October is the first quarter for them so it kind of makes sense to do the change then. But like I said Good Luck

The Plaza can hardly be considered a restaurant since it only serves sandwiches. Yes, Tony's is a sit down restaurant with a decent menu but as you mentioned LTT is a meal that's served family style which is a very nice option. The menu at Crystal Palace is certainly much more child friendly and the menu at LTT which really many kids don't enjoy. Also, there are many characters throughout the park all the time so having them at a meal is just a distraction from eating in many cases.

But that is the best part of LTT! LTT is separated into six different rooms. As the characters travel through the restaurant it is very hard to see them in another room. This makes for a calmer atmosphere. Since LTT is not a buffet, there are also no kids running around and walking right up to the characters. This is easilly a more enjoyable atmosphere than say Crystal Palace.

I've read all of the posts here and have kept up on this rumor turned truth. I personally love LTT for the food, service, and entire experience. It was a very quiet and relaxing dinner away from the hustle and bustle of the Magic Kingdom and I am sad that they are not including characters anymore. However, they are keeping the same food and the place will relatively be the same. If I had children, I'd be more sad to see this go as it would be a nice quiet alternative to the other busy character meals. Still, I 100% understand the need for change in dining experiences.
With all of this being said, I am still going to voice my opinion to Disney in due time. Likewise, I would never consider canceling a Disney trip because of a restaurant change. That just seems overboard to me. I also would not take my money to an off-site eatery because I can get those types of foods and experiences back at home. Part of the vacation experience is the fun of eating some place new.

Doesn't Fort Wilderness have a character BBQ?
LTT happens to be the only chance for Goofy to be out of the shadow of other characters. I understand that he is present at other character dining, but let's let the Goof have his spotlight. :)
