OK - it's just the spark of a movement at the moment, but I'm soliciting ideas as to how to get this done...and don't think I won't....
??www.savetheadventurersclub.com?? If Mr Toad has fans, then AC should, too!!
I can see cutting back on dance clubs. There are plenty of places in the world to hear techno music and get overpriced drinks... The AC is unique. Improvisational character-driven FUN!!!!!

Is this for sure? I had heard the AC would be spared!!!!
I'm happy to help do whatever it takes. The AC deserves to be saved, it is too unique and beloved to be bulldozed.

The Adventurers Club is the main reason for most of our Disney trips lately. I love that place! I'm ready to start writing letters, but I'm onboard if anyone has any better ideas.

We can hope that once the majority of the space is reimagined that they will reopen the AC, but it looks like 09/27/08 is the last night. We will be there.

You know what kills me? I know this going to lead to more outsourcing. They are going to replace those clubs with non-Disney owned banality. :furious:
I admit to not visiting the dance clubs and not even the Comedy Warehouse recently, but I made sure to go to AC. I could do the other places anywhere, but AC was so unique, I tried to get there every trip...and now it will close before my October trip and I cannot even go for a proper final KUNGALOOSH?!

for about the last month the rumors have been really heating up about PI and now it's official. I think it would be best in order to serve the interests of everyone to start a savepleasureisland campaign. While I agree that AC is unique and fun, Mannequins is the only place in Orlando to hear all techno and the environment is amazing. The same goes for 70s and 80s at 8-trax. Again I might be wrong, but this is what I've heard. Motion on the other hand...THAT is the kind of music you can hear absolutely anywhere.
I really can't figure out if I wanna cry or shout and pump my fists in anger. Dangit Disney what am I supposed to do when I wanna dance and have fun? Oh that's right, I'll just LEAVE your property and buy drinks elsewhere.
btw the reason for the stroller price increase is to offset the money they will be loosing from alcohol. Thought ud all want to know:lmao:

First they closed down Virtual Magic Kingdom. Now I'm hearing the sole reason I bought a PI annual pass is shutting its doors TWO FREAKING WEEKS before my next trip.
I am scared that I'm a Disney Jinx! :duck:

I agree that we won't be saddened by the closure of the other clubs ..... but AC?!?!? :scared1: That is our absolute FAVORITE spot in ALL of WDW!!! We've been telling my Dad about it for years .... and we were planning to FINALLY be able to take him when we're there the week of NYE!!! This is just horrible news for us ........
The AC is unique and truly represents "adult" Disney World ...... there isn't another "club" like it. This is heart-breaking ..... :worried:

Now granted... when we first did our trips to WDW in 2001 for our honeymoon, PI was a destination we HAD to go to. It was fun and different. Over the past few years, it has declined. When they took out the stage and got rid of that community aspect of New Years eve every night... it just became a ghost town. The Island was just bars at that point.
We went to the last show at the Comedy Club the last time we were there... so what, was that the almost 2 a.m. show... and there were toddlers in there. It was just strange... toddlers/babies screaming at the top of their lungs during the show. I thought it was ridiculous.
Without having the base of the west end stage, hanging out outside the clubs looked like loitering. The Adventurers Club still held on to the magic.
I have to admit... unless they did some major changes to get that fun-party-like feel back to the entire Island...where everyone can participate in the streets instead of having to shuffle off into dark clubs to drink (thus leaving kids/young adults out)...then I'm not sad to see the Island go.
They could put both the Comedy Club and Adventurers Club over by Jellyrolls on the Boardwalk - I think they'd do well there. As far as the other ones... eh... I won't be sad when they're gone.
Save the AC and the CC!

I understand the closing of PI, but the Adventurers Club was a unique experience. I've been listenting to all the YouTube videos in order to whet my appetite for my next trip to WDW. It made WDW a complete experience from the parks in the day to some real fun at night. Disney should move the club somewhere else...or make it a standalone somewhere in Downtown Disney. that would work.

Is it true AC is NOT being spared? I can't believe this!

I really wish it wasn't true, but it is.
I really don't think there's anything we can do about it.
FWIW I did e-mail WDW. But I feel it will fall on deaf ears.
Disney doesn't make an announcement without carefully considering the response. Once they announce something, they rarely change their mind.
Truthfully, to us Die Hard WDW fans AC is an institution, but if you walked around MK today and asked the average park goer what the AC was they'd probably shrug their shoulders or point you towards the Tiki Room.
I was saying to a friend last night that if the AC could be moved to one of the parks (DAK or DHS?) for nightly shows (ALA the old Horseshoe Revue) that would be really cool. I doubt it will happen though.
No more VMK
$31 strollers
Summer Dining Surcharges
No more AC
I hate to tell you this, but its only Disney biggest fans that are noticing these major changes. The rest of the tourists just shrug their shoulders and fork over the cash.

DH and I are adults (good thing otherwise we'd be kids with kids). We thoroughly enjoy our trips WITHOUT our children. We love the activities we can do without our children. I wonder if Disney realizes that if they keep taking stuff away, we won't need to visit anymore. I could be wrong, but I bet that most of the clubs in PI are a hang out for locals. However, I think that the Adventurer's Club is a place that is visited by the die hards like us. Maybe they will move it to another location. How very sad :(

I agree, I'm sure our emails about this won't matter much, but I still emailed them to let them how I felt. I'm sure it won't do a bit of good though. All the emails they got about VMK and the stroller prices didn't matter either but maybe somewhere down the road when Disney suddenly realizes they may have lost some of the loyalty of their die hard fans, they won't be able to say
"Hey, why didn't you tell us you were upset?"

Well as futile as it probably is, I set up an online petition to keep the club. Now I realize it is unlikely to do any good, but I feel like we can't just sit by and do nothing. It certainly couldn't hurt anything. 300 sigs so far in 18 hours, not too bad! How much does a URL cost nowadays? lol

I guess I am too old. Quite a few years ago I went to the AC and really
enjoyed. It was like going to a cocktail party with someone coming around and taking drink orders and snacks. I went several months ago and most of
the group I was with were younger. We didn't stay very long because it was
just stupid. I know everyone has there own taste and I respect everyones
but compared to what I had experienced in the past it didn't do much for
me. There was hardly anyone there and except for the comedy club the
other clubs were empty. I can understand why they are closing the area
down to change. I do feel bad for everyone who does enjoy the area that
it is closing. Just maybe they will keep the AC for you. Thanks

what time of the year and what time of the night did you come? PI goes through the same high and low times as the parks. Someone could say the same thing about going to the parks in September when none of the fastpasses are even operating and you can walk onto every ride.

In the world...yes, in the United States, no. Come to WI and find me one good techno bar. Even the GAY bar doesn't receive techno music well. The closest venue that even plays Techno is 2.5 hours away and it's a rundown poor excuse for a building. No good lighting, awful sound, and certainly no spinning dance floor.

Just got my generic reply from guest relations.
Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World Resort.
We recognize that the closing of the Adventurer's Club will disappoint
Guests who have come to enjoy the unique entertainment that has been
offered over the years. With that in mind, please know a tremendous
amount of thought went into the decision as we bring the new vision for
Downtown Disney to life. As we look to the future, we are excited about
the evolution that will occur over the next two years, introducing a
brand new mix of shopping, dining and other experiences for our Guests'
enjoyment.
Our Guests' feedback, as well as their continued enthusiasm for our
products and services, are very important to us. We genuinely
appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts with us.
Sincerely,
Walt Disney World Resort
Doesn't look like they give a darn, they ARE closing it folks.

This really isn't a surprise. The decision was made before the announcement was made; a few emails aren't going to change their minds. Thousands of letters from fans of the Club might convince someone high enough up who can make a difference to reconsider it, however. I am sure they won't save all of Pleasure Island, but I still believe it is possible that the Club itself might be saved - even if they have to relocate it. Joe Rohde, one of the foremost imagineers, is reportedly a big supporter of the Club. Jon Lasseter seems like the kind of person that would appreciate a place so full of "Disney magic". While it may be (and sadly, most likely is) too late to save the Club in its current location, the fans need to convince the Powers That Be that it still has a place somewhere in the Disney Resort.
I have heard that the decision to close the Club was not necessarily a popular one even with all of The Powers That Be. If that is the case, maybe all we need to do is create enough of an outcry to give someone with power the ammunition they need to support changing this decision.
What we as fans need to do is bombard the Disney Executives with reminders that the closure of the Club is a mistake. Companies place far more importance on actual letters than emails. It's easy to fire off a bunch of emails; it takes an effort to send a letter. While the emails might help along with everything else, emails and electronic petitions alone will not save the Club. Printed petitions and a actual letters still might.

We're up to 3400 signatures, if we can get to 10,000 I'll send it immediately. I'll send it regardless though as soon as the signatures slow down. I really feel that we can talk them into relocating it if the demand is high enough. We have a fancy new web page and some domains, check it out and pass them around!!

Okay, everyone! Happy July 4th! It appears that our hard work is beginning to take notice by the Disney execs. Let's keep going!
Make a goal each day of at least one thing you will do to keep the word out and the Disney execs listening. Here's mine for today...
1. Yesterday, I drafted a snail mail letter. I also began stuffing envelopes. Today I plan on finishing that.
2. I plan on emailing my letter down the Disney exec list tonight.
Marching along, we're adventurers!

I just got this message from Brandon on Facebook with actual phone numbers to Disney execs including Lansbury! We should definitely call this weekend while they aren't there and leave messages, cause I'm sure when Monday comes the numbers will be changed.
Today, I was given the personal voicemail numbers for Barry Carlson and DTD VP Kevin Lansberry from a guest who found their numbers in the TeleCast dropped carelessly at Downtown Disney.
I took this opportunity to call and leave a voicemail for both today and hope you will consider doing so as well; remember, be thoughtful, sincere and always let your conscience be your guide.
Also, be brief! The shorter the calls--the more we will fit on their voicemail
before "voicemail is full."

HERE IS WHAT TO SAY:
"Hello (Barry or Kevin),
My name is (Your Name Here) and I am a patron of Pleasure Island/The Adventurers Club. I was calling to let you know while we appreciate the Disney Company's concern for building a better guest experience, I hope you will respectively re-consider the plans to close this Downtown Disney attraction.
I am considering taking my business outside of Disney if this plan goes through.
Thanks!"

We should also, I think, send a separate letter (this time of appreciation and thanks) to the people who designed the AC (Disney Imagineering) thanking them for the work they did to make the AC such wonderful attraction. (Anyone got the address of the group charged with attraction/venue design?)

I just got back from an impromptu WDW trip over this July 4th weekend for the purpose of visiting the AC. Some thoughts:
1) Boy, do I love that place. Tremendous time. Unfortunately, no blender at the bar so.... No Kungaloosh!! :scared1:
2) How in the WORLD can they justify keeping the cesspool that is the West End open and closing PI? It's an outdoor strip mall and has NO Disney feel. Money, obviously, but sad to see.
3) Spot picked out for standing in front of the wrecking ball.
Keep finding people to write in.... If you haven't been to the AC, try it once and you'll see. :thumbsup2
