Okay, It is finally here. WE’RE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD Sept 10-16! We are going on a very special Make a Wish trip for our Granddaughter and now we can really start planning. This will be an interesting trip to plan as half of our group of 10 will be staying at GKTW and half will be staying at Port Orleans Riverside with free dining. It is taking little bit more strategy for us than our usual trips to the World to say the least. Grandpa and Grandma have just a slight addiction to WDW and we are thrilled that this is our second trip this year.
Here is our cast of thousands—no really just 10
Grandpa—loves it all but is not into the planning
Grandma—loves the planning
Aunt Mandy—always up for a trip to Disney anywhere
Uncle Tim—you’re not leaving me home!
Uncle Jason—Florida? count me in
Dad—just going with the flow, can’t wait for Test Track
Mom—obsessed with planning, so like her mom
Brother Brody—10 yo, and ready to take on the world
Sister Karlyn—8 yo, our wish girl—wants to meet princesses and Mickey
Sister Gabby—7 yo, wants her pic taken with Minnie while Gabby does a handstand to show her gymnastics class
The travel arrangements have been coordinated with Make a Wish and Delta airlines so we are all on the same flights from Salt Lake to Orlando and back. There are two rental cars. We have a couple of ADR’s because of requests by Karlyn and others. Grandpa is on the look out for autograph books for the 3 kids. Grandma thinks we all need matching shirts. The paper countdown chain is surrounding the kitchen. The wish party is set for August 9th at the Wishing Place here in Salt Lake. And if that isn’t enough excitement, our wish family is buying a new house and moving about 3 weeks before our extravaganza! It will be packing, unpacking and more packing.
We would love to hear any suggestions about things that are different with a Make A Wish Trip and also if anyone has tried this “Coordination of Benefits” that we are attempting between GKTW and POR. (Sorry, Grandma works with medical billing)
We love reading all the other wonderful MAW trip reports and hope ours will be interesting to some of you as well.

Yeah Aurora73. You know I will be counting on you for help with this as you have great experience with MAW in Utah and with Disney.

Now that planning is in full swing, Mom and Grandma are spending lots of time on the computer (dis boards) and the phone trying to get everything going. Because we are lucky enough to be coming on our MAW trip during free Dining and our trip was not finalized until recently, we missed the magic 180 day chance for ADR’s. That along with the size of our group—10 people, has made things a little difficult. Roxanne at WDW-Dine was SO helpful and kind.:wizard:
So here is the beginning of our plans
Sept 10—Leave SLC and arrive in Orlando about 5 pm. Wish family will go to GKTW for orientation and dinner. The other 5 will go to POR, get settled in and grab some dinner.
Sept 11—SeaWorld during the day and then GKTW that evening for Santa and the fun
Sept 12—BBB for K and G during the day. Not sure what to do with the rest of the day but then off to MNSSHP. We plan to get there around 4 for the evening. Dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern at 8.
Sept 13—MK in the AM. Crystal Palace for lunch
Sept 14—HS and AK
Sept 15—Epcot, Dinner at Biergarten
Sept 16—Leave for airport around 1:30 so shopping at DTD before heading to the airport.
We probably won’t use the US/IOA passes as the kids really only want to do Disney. They have been slightly brainwashed by their grandparents!:rotfl2:
We are so excited to be able to have this MAW trip. Right now our Karlyn is doing quite well and doesn’t require much medical intervention, only oxygen at night. She does tire quite easily so we want to take things easy.
Can someone tell us what time the GKTW Santa party starts on Thursday? Will it be ok to go to SeaWorld on that day?
Thanks for your help.

Bigdisgrandma....awesome start to your trip report!!!!! I think your plans look great!!!! If you go to the GKTW website, I think it lists the times of their activities....if not...I think it was around 7 pm. I think going to Seaworld that day would be fine. We did Seaworld on a sat. and ended up going to something that night at GKTW (having a duh moment and can't remember what it was! :confused3 ) The girls loved seaworld, we just got tuckered out and decided to cut it short...I really wanted to stay and watch the nighttime Shamu show, but we didn't make it. Oh well....a reason to go back...woohoo!! :rotfl2: Keep up the good work, I can't wait to read more!! popcorn::

We're going to MNSSHP the same night! And CP at MK the next day to eat with Pooh and friends! Maybe we'll run into each other...

Since Seaworld and Universal close earlier, you should be out in time to see Santa. We did Universal that day, left at the closing, and were just in time for the Christmas festivities.

I am exicted about your upcoming Wish Trip. You will be going about the same time that we went on our Wish Trip last year. By having some folks at GKTW and some at a Disney Resort, you should have the best of both worlds and be able to visit both as a group.
The evening they arrive at GKTW would be a good time to check out the fun there; the caousel, the train and station, mini golf, the castle of miracles, the pool and water play area and such. The activity that night is a kind of talent show that might be "missable." One adult will go to orientation at 7 p.m. to get tickets, passes and all. http://www.gktw.org/pre/Village/schedule.asp?p=village
It is a great idea to leave Sea World early enough for the Christmas Party at GKTW at 7:30 p.m. It is well worth it. I wish you could take in the Pirates and Princesses Party Friday at GKTW as well. There is dancing with Shamu and friends, a coronation ceremony with tiaras and scepters for ALL the little princesses and pirate hats and swords for the boys. Crafts are made as well.
We could not have done AK in half a day with Lion King Festival, Everest, the Safari, Dinosaur, Kali River Rapids, Tough to be a Bug and the Nemo show, not to mention the animal trails. Don't miss the Beauty and the Beast Show at HS, as well as Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Playhouse Disney and Star Tours.
Many characters from the theme parks visit GKTW on specific days. It is easier and nicer to do character greets with them there.
The ultimate Princess experience is Cinderella's Royal Table for Breakfast or lunch.
For shopping savings, Wal-Mart at the light near GKTW has a large section of Disney Merchandise (that says Disney rather than Walt Disney World on it) for a great price. Across the highway and a block or 2 east is an indoor Flea Market with many more such souvenirs. I even found Universal and Sea World stores in the airport for real "last minute" shopping.
PLEASE visit the Wish Trippers Unite thread that is linked in my signature. You will find a lot of helpful people there to network with regarding Wish Trips. You might also like to see my link to Wish Trip Planning.
Blessings,

Bill,
Thank you so much for the great information. I have read almost all of the information that you so willingly share with MAW families. Your way with words is amazing and the service you provide to us all is truly a gift of great worth. May God bless you for this.
We are so excited to be able to share this wonderful experience with Karlyn and her family. We will have the best of all worlds with 2 "homes" while we are in Orlando. The hard part is trying not to over-plan ourselves. When my husband and I go to the World, we love to spend time just people watching but with so much for Karlyn, Gabby and Brody to want to see and do, we really are trying to stay in control:rolleyes1
Again, thank you for all you do for the Wishtrippers. I hope in some small way, I can help to pay it forward!

Thank you for all your kind words. I really do enjoy helping people in this way. Wendygrace, 5Dwarves and Jennydep helped me so much in answering my trip planning questions. This is also a great way to keep the memory of our own trip alive.
Amy,
I would love to see that "standing on the head" picture as well. A great place for that might end up when Minnie and Mickey visit GKTW in the theater. They can also be found at Camp Minnie Mickey in AK and at the Toon Town Fair in MK.

WOW Denise.... you are in a hot place. I have been there in the summer. I hope you have air conditioning in your home and car both. It is about 100 here the last few days. Even Seattle has gotten up there and it is much more humid there than here, and the folks there are not used to anything much over 75.
Stay cool... think about the Arctic Exhibit at Sea World, or the Penguin House.

Thank goodness yes we do have air conditioning in our home and cars. I would be dying of the heat otherwise. Our youngest daughter and her husband are on an Alaskan cruise right now that left out of Seattle last Friday. They come home on the 4th and I know they were hoping for cooler weather.

:wizard: We have the best news…Make A Wish along with a generous donor here in Salt Lake have made it possible for Karlyn and her family to go to the 4th of July Hannah Montana concert at BYU in Provo. The tickets for this concert sold out in about 10 minutes when they went on sale in April and the prices went sky high on e-bay. Someone donated several sets of tickets to MAW. So they had a drawing for the tickets today and Karlyn was one of the ones who get to go. Meeting Hannah Montana was Karlyn’s second wish after Disney World so she is really excited to go. Stadium of Fire is Provo’s big 4th of July celebration and this year it is Hannah, Blue Man Group and Glen Beck along with a huge fireworks show.
When the tickets sold out, Grandpa and I decided we would have to do a Backyard of Fire for the grandkids because we knew tickets were hard to come by. We are going to have a BBQ and then watch the Hannah Montana Concert Movie and then have some fireworks in our back yard. I know, not quite the same but we have 14 grandchildren so we sometimes have to adapt our activities.
Also, Utah has a state holiday every July 24th to celebrate the coming of the Mormon pioneers to the Salt Lake Valley. It is a huge multi-day celebration with 3 parades, rodeos, concerts and even a marathon. The horse parade for the rodeo is on July 12th and MAW has a wagon entered in the parade. Our wish family will get to ride in the wagon for that parade. All the rest of us will of course be there to cheer them on and make sure they do their parade waves just perfectly. :cheer2:
Again, we are so grateful to Make A Wish for everything they do for these children and their families.

OMGosh, that IS wonderful news!!! It was interesting for me when CJ was honing in on his wish...I started to think how different each of my children's wishes would've been (esp. after my DD14 tried to talk him into going to Hawaii--LOL!!). My DS11 would've wished for something involving wrestlers, and my DD8 would definitely have wished to meet HANNAH MONTANNA!!!! I was asking our wish coordinator when he was here what some of the most popular wishes are besides Disney, and he said that she was definitely one of them. He told me that Miley Cyrus is great with the Wish kids, so I hope this turns out to be a spectacular experience for Karlyn!!! WOW--this is like getting a bonus wish! I'm so happy for y'all!!!

We also remember those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Last tour my son lost his Sergeant, his best friend and his room mate. I teach my little Wish Trip girl to honor them. And think of what Henri Landwirth endured in WWII. We should all be thankful for what WE have, and for Wish Trips as a true expression of compassion, giving, sacrifice and love.

Last night (the 4th) Karlyn and her family got to see the Stadium of Fire Hannah Montana Concert courtesy of MAW and some generous donors. They had an absolutely wonderful time. :cloud9: The concert was wonderful and the fireworks were fantastic. Of course, it was a really late night with the fireworks finally ending and then the traffic jam to get home. It meant they didn't get home until one in the morning. They met some friends in the parking lot before the concert and had a great visit with them. Then they got new Hannah T-shirts and loved every minute of the evening. Even their dad had a great time. Of course, he has had to learn to love Hannah with those 2 little girls singing with and watching Hannah every chance they get.
Karlyn has already drawn a picture and written her thank you note to MAW for letting her have this wonderful adventure.
Update on our trip. We have made reservations for Gabby and Karlyn for the BBB on Friday afternoon Sept 12 at DTD before we go to the MNSSHP. princess: Grandma, Mom, Aunt Mandy and the girls will be having a marvelous time there while the guys go swimming for the afternoon.

Here is the secret. Grandma believes in bribes! I promised them all a water balloon fight as soon as we were done and it really only took about 10 trys to get this one and a few others that I like as well. I will tell you that Grandpa says the pictures turned out so well because they all have his "sparkling personality!"
Because they all live quite close to each other, they do spend a lot of time together. They are really good friends and get along together very well. Everyone has a buddy! My children were the same way as they grew up. Two boys, then three girls, then two more boys.
Glad you like the pictures. Thanks for your kind words.

Wonderful. You could hand deliver or at least come by and see what happens. I am so amazed by some of the things I have seen that you (and the other disboutiquers) have done. Wish I had just a little more time to sew and I would love to get involved as well. We are already trying to think of someway we can pay this forward.
Thanks again to you all for your wonderfulness!:grouphug:

We too have been contacted by the DisBoutiquers to be part of a Big Give. My goodness, we are so amazed and thrilled. :cloud9: Karlyn's mom is filling out the forms right now. You know of course what this means...We are going to have to get a lot better at this picture thing!
Thanks to everyone for their kindness, thoughtfulness, prayers and comments. It makes the everyday difficulties seem not so glaring and the bumps in the road a little easier to take. :grouphug:
Oh and stop over and read AmberGreenawalt's PTR. Another great chance to cleanse your tearducts if you know what I mean!
Have a great afternoon.

If I had a clue how to get one of those countdown calendars, life would be so much simpler. The kids have a disney paper chain that goes around their Kitchen but I have to count on a good old traditional calendar 'cause I don't have enough fingers and toes!
I am loving everyone's PTR's and the growing excitement for all the coming trips! And then there is the Big Give or should I say Gives, oh my!
Have a truly Disney Day!

It was an all horse parade and was so much fun. The weather was perfect and we had a nice shady spot to watch the parade. (We just found out that the Make A Wish Wagon won 1st place in the Authentic Wagon division of the parade!) This afternoon, Karlyn goes to the Wishing Place and officially makes her wish!

This one is 13 of our 14 grandchildren all wearing Disney World T-shirts that Grandma and Grandpa brought back to them from one of our many trips. This was taken 5/2006.
As you can see, we have all shapes and sizes and hair colors! There is one more boy who was not born when this picture was taken and we have one more coming in January.
I know we will get better at this picture stuff eventually. I am usually not allowed to even touch the camera!:thumbsup2

Thanks to all the disboutiquers. I guess this means that Lindsey and I are about to be banned from your thread! Ever since Shannon sent us the information sheet, we have wondered when it would be our turn. To you all, please know how much your efforts are enjoyed, loved and appreciated. I am so impressed with all that you do, not just for the Wish families but for each other and for your communities, families and friends. One group hug is not enough:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
If you need any more information or have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
By the way. The girls love anything Disney, princesses, minnie, pooh, whatever and Brody loves all sports and most all the disney characters. He loves Goofy sports, Mickey sports, NASCAR and believe it or not the Texas longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. I was thinking this might be helpful to some of you folks.
Please have a marvelous day. I know ours is so much better because of you all.

If you could not tell by the username I am Karlyns mom. As me and Bigdisgrandma were talking about about the DISboards we realized we had not posted anything on how we came to this wonderful world of Disney. So here is an abreviated story: Sorry in advance to anyone who cries:sad:
Our 7 year old daughter Karlyn was born with several very severe cardiac defects, due to a chromasome defect called Deletion 22Q or Digeorge Syndrome. The most sever being Pulmonary Artesia. To explain it in layman's terms she was born with no pulmonary arteries to feed blood to her lungs. She has several small vessel branches that supply the blood . The small vessels have never been sufficient to carry all of the blood and oxygen to the rest of her tiny body. She had her first open heart when she was only 4 1/2 months old where she suffered a major brain stroke. The stroke caused both major speech, and motor skill delay. Over the last seven years she has had 1 more open heart surgery and 8 minor heart surgeries. We have also endured countless hospital stays for respiratory distress. She has become very accustomed to having lots of trips to Primary Children's Hospital or as our other kids call it "Karlyn's Hospital". As Karlyn's little pulmonary vessels have struggled to provide the blood to the tiny blood vessels in her lungs her heart has become enlarged and the small vessels in her right lung have started to die. Leaving her with only 1/3rd of her right lung function. As her parents we have searched for every possible fix to her medical condition. We were told at her birth that she would never be a canidate for transplant due to the severity of her multiple medical conditions. We also knew eventually we would get the news that they had run out of things to do for her.:sad2: Even though we knew the day would come as a parent nothing can prepare you to hear those words. We are very grateful to know that we still have time no matter how long it may be to make family memories with Karlyn and our other two children. The phrase "You should always live every day as if it were your last" has become more than just a saying to our friends and family.
We as a family are so greatful to have you in the process to help make our memories so grand. (and to feed our need for all things Disney!)

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts, prayers and good wishes for us. I know it is hard for Lindsey to write about Karlyn, as it is for the other Wish tripper moms. When you put those things in writing, it makes them that much more real. On a day to day basis, you moms do so much, even without thinking about it, but it has such an impact on your family and especially your children who may have huge struggles to overcome. Like so many other families in this world, we have had some pretty tough things to endure recently but we keep on keeping on as you also do! :thumbsup2
What a wonderful group of previously unknown friends we have found from so many places here. May you all, wish trippers, disboutiquers and others (even the lurkers because I used to be one:laughing: ) be blessed for the good you do and the joy you bring to us all. :grouphug: :grouphug:

Then also today because I had a day off and was feeling compelled to sew, I bought a little fabric (18 yds) to make us all matching Hawaiian shirts for the trip. I must have lost my mind but I think they will be great. Karlyn chose the fabric because she just loves ORANGE today.

Well, I washed and dried the fabric, had to spread it out across the backyard to get it dry because my heavy duty Maytag was having fabric overload trying to dry it. (I'll post pictures later). The first shirt is almost done, just needs those dang buttonholes and buttons. This afternoon after work, I'll cut out at least one more and get going. My sweet husband bought me a new Janome serger and I am very excited but I know I will need lessons or something to do more than just the basics!

TWO DOWN, 8 TO GO!
Last night, Lindsey and I cut out 2 shirts and tonight, I got Brody's done (except for those buttons and buttonholes!) Mike says I will be sewing buttons onto shirts when we are flying to Florida:rotfl: My response was that I wouldn't be but Lindsey and Mandy might be.
I have a question for all the disboutiquers. Should I make the ladies and girls dresses or skirts with this fabric instead of shirts? I am debating. I think I would prefer a shift type of dress with a light t-shirt underneath--I don't do sleeveless.(I have Grandma arms:laughing: ) Mandy thinks she might want a similar style dress and I know the little girls would love dresses but Lindsey can't make up her mind. She, of course, is the skinny one and would look great in anything. Let me know what you think.
I guess I better clean up my kitchen and put away the sewing stuff for the night. I have to work tomorrow but then I get Thursday-Sunday to stay at home because Thursday is a state holiday and Friday is my regular day off.

Denise
skirts would be simple. If you find the right directions, you could make them all similar, and they would stitch up pretty quick.
I can't wait to see pics of the shirts you've been working on!

I think skirts or a simple dress would be easier than button up shirts. If the women you're making them for say they would want to wear a skirt/dress to the parks, that might be a great option!

I asked over on the Disboutique thread (since you can't visit there right now) if someone had a suggestion for a skirt or dress that you could do for all of the females to match.
Luvinyou (Daniela) posted this:
This tutorial (http://houseonhillroad.typepad.com/photos/twirly_skirt/) is decent and jham's 30 minute skirt (http://disboutique.blogspot.com/2008/03/jhams-30-minute-skirt-including-math.html) looks good as well.
The simplest skirt in my opinion, you cut a peice that is whatever your desired length is and double (or 1.5, depends on how full and twirly you want it to bo) your waist measurement. Sew up the side seam, and make a casing for elastic. You can add a contrast band if you desire.
Thats how I made this skirt

Denise, I don't know how I didn't sub this thread!! I am in AWE of your Hawaiian shirt fabric. I am hosting my dad's 50th b-day party at my house in Sept. He ALWAYS wears Hawaiian shirts so we are having all of the guests wear them...I have been toying w/ the idea of making matching ones for the family, but I have so much sewing to do already:laundy:
GOOD for you!!! I can't wait till you get to join us over on the boutique thread:yay:
If the little girls wanted dresses I think this would be very cute w/ Carla C's simply sweet dresses and tops pattern w/ the halter style bodice. They would sew up quick.
Now, get off the computer and GO SEW!!!:surfweb:

Thanks to you wonderful disboutiquers for the suggestions. I love the skirt idea. And of course the dresses for the girls would be perfect. I so wish I could check out your thread! I used to sew all the time, you tend to do that when your kids are little and you have no money. ( I was probably the original disboutiquer because I made my 3 little children matching outfits for a trip to Disneyland in 1978.) For a while I even sewed costumes for a costume shop. I made my own wedding dress and wedding dresses for 2 of my daughters and my niece's as well. However, when my kids were all in school and I went back to school, I got out of the habit and now I am ready to dive back in.
I'll let you all know what the final decision--shirts vs skirts--turns out to be.
Only 3 more hours to work this week! Then the real work begins.

I like both the skirt and shirt ideas. So you could please me either way!! :goodvibes Another idea on the shirt, would be to use the snaps, instead of buttons and button holes. I they comewith a little tool, and you just need a hammer. Measure twice, hammer once.

I'm finally "subscribing" to your trip report." It's taking me awhile to figure this DIS board stuff out. Since I'm up at 4:00 a.m. (still no baby...just can't sleep) I have a little quiet time to myslef :) I've really enjoyed reading all of your posts...feels like I know you! I just wanted to wish you all a magical trip! I for one, can't wait to hear all about it. Also, if you can please PM me your address. I was reading in another thread about how you wanted to make "activity folders" for the kids for the airplane ride. I'd like to send along some stuff to help with that :goodvibes

You should all see the things she has sewn. I saw one of the wedding dresses and it was gorgeous. I have seen pictures of one of the other dresses. I have also seen the many blankets, stockings, and some costumes. Denise you are amazing! I can't wait to see the shirts, skirts, dresses or whatever you come up with. They will be fabulous. :goodvibes
Lindsey I am so glad you have joined the Disboards and thanks for sharing your story. I know all that you have been through and you are an amazing family. You are always in my thoughts and prayers. I really miss hearing all about your family on a daily basis but at least I get weekly updates and I can keep up with the Wish Trip plans here on the boards. I look forward to more!:wizard:

Lisa, I'm so glad to hear from you! Wish I could have gone to lunch with you and Mandy this week. Maybe sometime soon. Thanks for the compliments. You are so sweet!
Well the decision is in, Shirts for the guys, dresses for the little girls and skirts for Mandy, Lindsey and Me. Thanks Daniela and Shannon for the help. I think I might get really brave and try an appliqued Minnie head made of the fabric on the front of white T-shirts to go with the skirts. We'll have to see. I might need a boat load of practice for that one.
Hawaii Fabric count 3 Shirts done, 1 skirt done, 1 shirt cut out, 5 other things still waiting but I have done the buttonholes:banana:

I am sure there a plenty of you out there that know what this feels like to sew til you drop. I went to the fabric store to get buttons for the hawaiian shirts and walked out with 4 yards of Mickey fabric and no buttons. 10 shirts is just not enough of a project. I needed to add a sundress for each of the girls. One of these days I will get brave enough to sew a "twirly" skirt. I am not sure it will ever be Bisboutique worth but we will give it a try. Thanks for all of the sewing inspiration. :worship:

The invitations are ready to go into the mail, and the I have cut things out. Gabby decided that she did not want a dress she wanted a shirt and a skirt but when we when to go and get the pattern she decided that a shirt and shorts was what she wanted.
I am just pulling out my sewing machine to work on it now that the kids are going to bed.

You two are so funny. It sound like you have a great relationship. I am close to my daughters now and I hope we stay that way :) . All this sewing has inspirted me. I used to sew alot but got out of it, you know that thing called work, school and kids kinda got in the way :confused3 . I made a photo memory quilt for my 2 sister-in-laws for Christmas last year. They came out good, even if I do say so myself ;) . I am making another one for my father-in-law for his birthday, which is the end of this month :scared1: . So I went to the fabric store with my oldest daughter and she found this disney material, sooo cute. It is the material that is all gathered at the top, all you have to do is sew it together and you have a top. So I bought it and will sew tops for my two youngest daughters for our trip. I got some different ribbons and buttons to decorate the front :) . I will post pictures when I get done. :)

Robin,
I think with the business of life, I forgot how much I love sewing. It has been fun to watch the great things that the boutiquers have sent to the wish trip families. I do have a great relationship with my daughters and with my daughters-in-law. They are all close and they constantly are helping one another. I love seeing the things they can do. My youngest daughter Anne has asked me to help her get started to sew some things for her little girl so I guess the Hawaii project will be the restart of an old hobby and joy for me and a new one for her.
Good luck on your cute tops. I might look for some of that type of fabric to make some tops for the other granddaughters going back to school.

Denise,
Did you have trouble finding tropical looking fabric? I can't find it anywhere here. Not that I have a lot of choices. I made a Lilo outfit for the Ohana breakfast for Kirsta and though it would be cute to make my nephew a shirt. And if I had time, to do them for us also. I found some really cheap stuff at Walmart, that isn't near me, but I guess that will have to do.

I bought the fabric at a local store, the Fabric Center, that has several different prints. It is 100% cotton but didn't shrink very much at all. It was $3.99/yd and is 60 inches wide. I know that they had one print that was red and dark blue flowers. I could go tomorrow and check what they have and send you a pm. Let me know.
I saw some at our Walmart that was ok but I needed too much fabric and they didn't have enough of any one print for my project. JoAnn's didn't have any and I didn't see any at the Hancock's right near my house.
I used McCall's pattern 3193 for Brody's shirt and it was really easy.:cheer2:Karlyn chose that smiley. I used McCall's M4518 for the adult shirts.

That is nice of you. After I posted, I went on line and found some Hawaii shops and the fabric was only $6 a yard. I found a cute one for Luichen, had little hawaiin kids, like Lilo and stitch type. I have to talk to DSis and BIL to see if they'd go for it. I'll let you know. BTW, thanks for the pattern #. I want to take a look at it.

There are no kids around this evening to model them. Maybe on Friday, I can take a picture of the three kids in their Hawaii clothes.
I only have 1 shirt left to make!
We had good news and bad news today. First the bad news, LIGHTS, MOTORS, ACTION is going to be closed while we are in Orlando. I am so sad. Brody and the rest of the guys would have loved it for sure. It is one of my favorites. Mike was so angry when I told him. I know he thinks they did it on purpose!
Now the good news. Karlyn had her Cardiology checkup today with an echocardiogram. There is no change from April and that is great. Her right ventricle is still working well and though her pressures are too high, they aren't any worse than usual. There does not appear to be any increase in loss of lung function since April and that is wonderful. :yay: All we are asking for at this point is for nothing to get worse. Staying the same is great news. Next week is the 2 year anniversary of her last open heart surgery. And then right after that, Aug 17th, is the 2 year anniversary since our son Ryan was killed in an accident. So much has happened since then. It is hard to even think about August 2006 for us but now we have September 2008 to look forward to. :woohoo:
Lindsey had to have 2 stitches just below her eyebrow last night. She was packing things to get ready to move and hit herself in the head with a candle holder. She has a really nice red, purple, pink, black and blue eye today. She wore her sunglasses most of the day so she wouldn't have to explain the colorful eye! :cool2:
I'll try to post better pictures of the Hawaii clothes on Friday. Jham and her children are coming by Friday afternoon to deliver a surprise to Karlyn and we are all very excited. We'll post pics of that as well.

I know, I just love them all. They are so fun and we always have a great time when they are around! Those heart things are so, so stressful. When you are never sure about the results it makes it that much harder.
I am so glad to hear the news about Karlyn. Mandy told me at lunch today before I had a chance to read your post. No change is great news!!!!
The shirts and dresses are cute. I hear they are even cuter in person. I may have to come over and see you all model them one of these nights.
Lindsey, sorry about your eye. Can we say OSHA? Just kidding. I am really sorry. Hope it heals fast.
Wouldn't you think that with a father who is a corporate senior safety consultant and a mother who does all the OSHA for a pediatric clinic she would know better. Can't you just hear me saying "Never pull a box off a shelf unless you know there is nothing on top of it!":rotfl:
You will have to come by one of these nights. We would love to have you. Remember that the wish party is Aug 9th at 11 at the wishing place. Hope you can come.

The first thing my mom said to me as I am in tears and bleeding from my eyelid is not are you okay? It sounded more like this " I can tell you have not heard my OSHA tranning." I guess that is why when I was 16 my friends declared her the meanest mom in the world. After the other might I think they might have been right!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

This afternoon, Jham and 3 of her darling children stopped by bigdisgrandma's house for a visit. They came with wonderful surprises for Karlyn, Gabrielle and Brody. It was so fun to have them be there and give the presents to the kids. They fit right in at grandma's! Thanks Uncle Tim for taking them to the toys!

They all loved the journals that Jeanne had made for them. Karlyn was thrilled with Belle!

It was so much fun to receive the Big Give gifts in person. Jeanne, you are amazing. Grandpa could hardly believe you had made Karlyn's outfit and he grew up with a mom who made a really good living sewing! Thanks for the sewing tips. We'll soon see how the applique things go.
We hope we can see you again next week at the Wish Party. Again, Thank you to you and your great family for your kindness and generousity. You and your kids are welcome anytime you come over to the West side of the valley. Remember, it's only 2 blocks from my house to the Hancock's!

Thank you SO MUCH for inviting us over! The kids had a great time. Sorry they were in rare form, honestly, they ususally don't ask to see inside people's refrigerators! :sad2: :rotfl: And thanks to "Uncle Tim" for letting them invade his basement. Your family is wonderful and the kids are so cute and sweet. I LOVED watching them look at, play with, and try on their new stuff. It is a rare "Big Give" opportunity to see this first hand and I am thankful. Just seeing those kids happy made my day! And thanks for the cupcakes bigdismom! And I have to say, in person, the orange outfits look really great! :worship: For those of you NOT BANNED, I'll soon be posting some pics of our meet on the disboutiquer thread. :cheer2: Denise, I'll send you a PM with some applique info!

Thanks for the well wishes for my eye. I does not look to bad today. The bruising is all on my eye lid and it has turned more pink-maroon. My husband thinks it looks like I am trying to bring back the wonderful eye shadow colors of the 80's.

I'm not only used to people looking in the fridge, it didn't even phase me! If he had helped himself to Grandpa's diet pepsi we would have adopted him right into the family that very minute. :rotfl: One of the other favorite foods always found in my fridge is Oscar Mayer Bologna. The kids all know that bologna is fair game and you are always welcome to that or a piece of cheese, no questions asked!
I am so glad we got to meet! It was so much fun. Next time, we'll wind up all the snowglobes one at a time and listen to the disney tunes:laughing:

Did you look this good? :lmao: This is my Mom. She was looking much better in this in picture then she had been. At Xmas, she pushed the dumpster to the curb and sort of fell inside it. She had a huge knot on her forehead. Dr. said all was fine, but she has very low blood platelets from Chemo and radiation etc... from Breast Cancer. At first she was embarassed, but then had great fun at work with it. She's a Bank Teller and people would ask her what happened, and she'd tell them she asked for a raise. At one point, she looked like the Grinch, sort of a lime green.

HeatherSue thank you so much for the wonderful shirt. We have passed it around more than once so everyone can look at it closely. It is amazing :worship: When Brody opened the package and we saw the shirt we all had to laugh because Brody has on his Dallas Cowboys jersey and Bryan is wearing his Texas Longhorns shirt. Bryan was so excited to finally get a letter. :cool1: The picture of him where he looks half awake was before he saw his letter from Tessa. Thank you once again for the gifts and we will make sure to get a picture of Brody with Pluto.

We were able to find the beds the girls wanted. They were not happy that we left the store without them. We did not want to but them and then have to move them again in 1 week when we finnally move. I would love to be able to sew like you do. Maybe if I start to practice now. I might be able to sew with the disboutiquers next year.:thumbsup2

You got to meet our beloved Jeanne!!! :lovestruc I am sooooo jealous!! Looks like the kids got on well and you all had a wonderful time. And of course all of the kids are cute as buttons! I'm so happy that it was a good experience for you all.
You have really moved through those hawaiian shirts!!! I'm glad you decided on dresses for the girls, they are darling!!

A package came today for Brody from HeatherSue.

I promise you that the shirts Brody and his dad are wearing today were not planned because we had no idea that a very special custom shirt was in the package for Brody.

HeatherSue, the shirt is amazing. Jham sent me a link to your Applique tutorial and I can see that you truly are "the BEST". Thanks for sharing your talent with Brody. I know he will truly wear this shirt out!!
If you notice the red fluffy bracelets that Karlyn is wearing, they came with the presents yesterday from Jeanne and her family. Karlyn does not plan on taking them off any time in the near future!:rotfl:
Denise
Poor Karlyn and her black eye! That is too funny that Brody and Bryan were wearing those shirts :rotfl2: That shirt Heather made is so cool! And love the letters from Tessa! She is engaged to my Luke you know! And just an FYI to those of you out there, no, I did not give the girls fur cuffs for Disneyworld in September :rotfl: My dear SIL makes them and she just wanted to join in the Big Give spirit! I'm glad the girls like them!

Thanks for the reminder Jeanne of who sent the cute cuffs. I couldn't remember whether it was your sister or SIL. Karlyn just loves them. She really won't take them off except to wash her hands! Luke will be getting a wonderful girl in Tessa. Not only can she draw but she is so thoughtful to send the pictures to the family. But then Luke is a great catch too and they can always come to my house for treats 'cause he know where the fridge is!:rotfl: :rotfl:
Hope you had a great weekend.

Packages came for the girls from Sally yesterday. :woohoo: They were so excited. Unfortunately, chaos reigned at my house yesterday evening and so I wasn't able to post pictures. My husband told me it was no different than any other day at our house but it was just a little wild, even for me. Will do it after work today. Thanks Sally and Kirsta for sharing the darling skirts and shirts, the cards, the games and the pictures of Kirsta from your trip last year. She is such a cutie! The waists are a little bit big but I think it will be an easy fix! I am thinking a little elastic across the back waistband should just do the trick nicely.
Pictures later today!

Glad they came. I swear the Minnie outfit got Kirsta picked for the roping show. I knew they would be a bit big in the waist. Elastic would work great, or maybe just a tuck? Glad the girls liked them. Kirsta usually gets upset when I give "her stuff" away. But she was happy to see someone else being able to use them.

Denise, all of the outfits are just awesome!! I LOVE the BigGive outfits, and I also adore your Hawaiian print!!! How cute y'all will look. Now after having been there, I think you will really stand out. I loved the day we wore our Blue shirts because it was easier to see each other! I LOVE the Minnie outfit, too. I have managed to find myself 5 minutes today to post some pictures of the girls with the things Sally sent. Karlyn and Gabby get so excited when Grandma calls to saw they have received a package.

Sally sent the girls each a card wishing them a great vacation. Gabby is the reader in the family.

PRECIOUS new outfits!! I can't wait to see pics of everyone in Disney! And Denise, I just saw the dresses you and your daughters made for ibdamama's girls for their trip. That was so very sweet of you, and I love them!! How long would it take me to learn to make something simple? I would love to pay it forward like you and your daughters are doing (although I realize it would take me a while to make something worthy of giving to someone else). Lance has even said he'd be interested in making scrapbooks for other kids like the ones Clutterbug made for our kids. Anyway, you are so kindhearted, and you will just fit right in with those DISboutiquers after you aren't banned anymore. I have to say how much fun it's been to be able to get back on their thread and see all their amazing creations again!

Thanks so much for your kind words. It has been so much fun. I did have a little scare last night though. With one dress left to finish a piece fell off my sewing machine. Luckily, I found a repair shop first thing this morning and I was back to finish it off in no time. Those were really simple dresses and didn't really require much sewing skill. I knew I wouldn't have time for anything too complicated. Check your community education catalogs. Around here they usually come out the first part of September and again in January. That is a great place to take a sewing class. they are usually taught by the High School or Jr High Home Ec teachers. I am going to teach my daughter Anne how to sew. She has a 3 yr old daughter who is growing really fast and always needs new church dresses. I think she will be able to make one of those dresses with some help.
Again, thanks for the nice comments. I am so much enjoying our new friendship!

Thank you so much Amber and your cute family. This will really help so much on that really long plane ride from Salt Lake to Orlando. Gabby is already a little concerned that she will get airsick and I keep telling her that she will be so busy she won't even know when we take off. At least that's what I tell myself when I fly!

Denise , I can't believe you are at the one month mark! It will go fast.T elaberate a little more on your questions, I saw many families at the village that had extended family with them. You can hang out there with no issues. You will all be very welcome there any time.As for the camera memeory cards I would bring a few at least.I brought one and had them download the card for me.I did however find that sometimes the person who did that was not always available and sometimes it takes a little while for them to do.It is nice to have a backup or two in case you can't get to it that day.You should have no problem doing it every few days or so.They give you a disk with them.Don't freak out if you get home and can't open it up though. It took me a whole day to figure it out! Also they do have some video cameras you can borrow although they have a limited amount. We borrowed one but Paul forgot to pick up the disks later.I have to call and see if they still have them.Love all the new outfits!

Okay, the party was Saturday and we really have tried to get the pictures posted but have had a few more urgent things in the last few days. My cute MIL has come to visit for a week, Lindsey and her family closed on their house and they have had to do major cleaning, painting, hauling away junk so they can move in, we also have 4 grandkids with birthdays this week and I needed to get a little package in the mail to ibdamama's little girls before their wish trip on Friday. Oh and I do have a "real" job that I have to do. Lindsey has loaded the pics onto our photobucket account and so after work today I will edit and post them! I promise (I need a fingers crossed smilie to insert here)

On Saturday, August 9th, Karlyn officially had her wish party. We are very lucky in Salt Lake to have a beautiful Make A Wish building where the wish children come to make their wish.
Karlyn was given a key to a very special room where she would make her wish.
http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k477/Lindseyz08/IMG_0166.jpg
The key opened the door to the wishing room.
http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k477/Lindseyz08/IMG_0178.jpg
Inside the room was a beautiful princess who would help Karlyn send her wish to the wish wizard.
http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k477/Lindseyz08/IMG_0185.jpg
After she made her wish, she needed to make her own personal star to hang in the foyer of the MAW building with the stars of all the other children who have had their wishes granted there.
http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k477/Lindseyz08/IMG_0223.jpg
Then Karlyn and the princess raised her star high up to the ceiling where it will hang forever. Of course we all cried because they played the song "When You Wish Upon A Star"
http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k477/Lindseyz08/IMG_0228.jpg
It is the one with the polka dots of course. Notice she is wearing her Minnie Dress that Jeanne (JHam) made for the Big Give for her.
http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k477/Lindseyz08/IMG_0241.jpg
After that, we all had cake and ice cream.
http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k477/Lindseyz08/IMG_0181.jpg
Karlyn loved her special princess so much. She was wonderful and so sweet to Karlyn.
http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k477/Lindseyz08/IMG_0184.jpg
Karlyn's wish granters were so terrific and they surprised her with lots of fun things for her trip including her very own tinkerbelle rolling suitcase.
http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k477/Lindseyz08/IMG_0211.jpg
It was a wonderful day. There were lots of people at the party and great grandma even came from Idaho for this grand celebration. All the cousins had a great time too. We are grateful to the wish granters, Make A Wish and Karlyn's princess for making the day perfect.:grouphug:

We missed you but totally understand what happened. You are welcome to stop at the MAW house any time on week days and they will let you take a little tour. It is one of those places where they have kleenex boxes everywhere and you really need them!

Grandpa said that the only thing that would have made it more teary was if they had played the Jiminy Cricket version. The wishing room was amazing. When the child makes their wish, the room changes colors several times and the fountain changes too.

Thank you so much for letting me be a part of the Wish party for Karlyn. It was so fun to see the Wishing Place from the side of a wish coming true rather than from the side I am used to seeing it, the fundraisers and auctions. It was such an honor to be included in the special celebration.
The star raising was an amazing and tear jerking moment. Karlyn's star really stands out among the other stars as it is the only polka dot star. :wizard: I cried when I saw the Princess in the wishing room, especially since she was dressed like my favorite princess. I am in West Jordan in the Salt Lake Valley. It is really, really too hot here today! It looks like it is only going to get hotter too!
Denise
Our family was just in West Jordan in April. It is so pretty there
Even Seattle has gotten up there and it is much more humid there than here, and the folks there are not used to anything much over 75.
Bill
That is so true. It's 10pm here now and it's still above 70. It's 87 in the house. It is miserable. I wish we had air conditioning.
:wizard: We have the best news…Make A Wish along with a generous donor here in Salt Lake have made it possible for Karlyn and her family to go to the 4th of July Hannah Montana concert at BYU in Provo.
Denise
Oh how FUN! Drew (my MAW boy) would have absolutely loved that. He loves Hannah Montana too (but it's a secret)
:yay:
 What a journey you have been on. You guys deserve this trip. I can't wait to see all the memories you make

Here is a picture of Brody's shirt and Karlyn's dress, or is it Gabby's? Who knows, they are identical!
Denise
The outfits are very cute!! YAY on the good news at the doctor.

We have friends that are basically family that live in West Jordan. I wanted something to do for Spring Break so I loaded the kids in the van and off we went. We stayed a night in Boise, a night in Toole, two nights in SLC, and two nights in Lehi. Then we drove straight back to WA. It was one of the best trips ever. We got to see lots of friends and make so many memories.

They could hardly believe how many characters were in the letters. Karlyn found her favorite ones very quickly. Maybe because all of them are her favorites! :rotfl: Gabby and Brody had a harder time trying to decide which one was their favorite and where it was.

They had to immediatley put them on to show off to anyone that would look.

We also received a giant package from Mrs. Miller. We are all still trying to figure out how she got so much in a little box?

This one happens to be my favorite!:thumbsup2

Karlyn LOVES her Belle sundress. It also came with long gloves but the elastic needs to be adjusted because Karlyn has "chicken arms".
Here she poses with her "prince charming" cousin.

Tinker is always a big hit at our house. I love the pointed hem line. The Minnie Mouse outfit Gabby is wearing is Grandpa's favorite because the shirt is reverseable! Who doesnt like a shirt that you can turn inside out if you spill!:rotfl2:
Karlyn would not take off the Belle dress to try on anything else but Gabby is always more that willing to go from one out fit to another. Just ask her dad who does the laundry.:laundy:
http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k477/Lindseyz08/IMG_0318.jpg
Gabby loves the cinderella button on the bow. I have a feeling we will be ironing this one at least once a week so it can be worn to school.

And the cutest mickey "spinning" skirt.
We love everything!!!
And who can forget Brody!

Brody loves this one. He was very impressed with the little pack that he can put all of his "loot" in.pirate:
Mrs Miller also sent him two other wonderful short and tank tops sets. We love the zipper pocket on the shorts. More places for him to put his "loot" in.

Lindsey,
Have your found anything at your new house yet? Hopefully, the hot water heater will be fixed by this evening;)
The clothes from Linnette are so absolutely darling (or in Brody's case-awesome) She is truly amazing. I can't wait until we can go back to the Disboutiquers thread and see what she has been doing besides these cute things! Thank you Linnette, you are wonderful.:grouphug: from all of us!

P.S. Thank you Piper for the cute shirts and for sharing the transfer pattern with us (by way of JHam). I purchased 5 more red shirts and am going to give it try this weekend. I really love them!

We are finally in the house. Not much is unpacked, but we are in. The hot water heater is still leaking. It is a good thing that we planned to tear out all of the carpet because we would have not choice after the hot water heater started to leak. Hopefully Jason will be out to look at it tonight.:confused3
Thank you again Piper and Linnette for all of the wonderfull outfits and t-shirts.

Hello! The kids outfits are so cute (and ahem, handsome!)!!! They are going to be so excited to wear them on your trip...which is coming up really, really quickly!!!
I am in awe of anyone who can create outfits like these, as well as all those shirts you are making for your family.
Oh, and BTW, don't sweat the 30th reunion. I feel your pain. I have to decide whether to attend my 25th university reunion next month (doesn't look good because my hubby doesn't manage well with the boys alone and I think I am looking for an excuse anyway). And my high school reunion - number 30 - passed by without comment. I guess we all feel we'll be up for a party at our 50th in 2028...after all, I'll only be 67 (EEK!!!!).
The boys and my hubby gave me Wii Fit for my birthday (well, yes I did have to go and buy it myself, but the thought was nice). First time I did my "body test" (warning: do not do this in front of your family unless you want them to know your weight and BMI!)...after a glass of wine at dinner I must add...my "Wii Age" was 62. AAAGH!!! And yes, I am "overweight", but my hubby who cycles >6000 miles/year just made it into normal weight. Yesterday, after more practice etc, my "Wii Age" was 41...I'm a kid again!!!
You're as young as you feel, right!

Thanks
We are really getting excited to go. I think the kids will be changing outfits at least twice a day! What a hard life:rotfl2: I'll bet your boys are having a wonderful summer. Sounds like they have done some fun things.
Thanks for the warning about the Wii Fit. I have yet to try "Wii ing" (is that a word?) at all. I am more of a Nintendo DS kind of Grandma! My husband gave me one for Christmas 2 years ago and I love it. I do have the Brain Age of 25! Of course once you get that score, never test yourself again or you could wind up with an age of 84! I can't do those tests of skill, I have no coordination...and I really can't do that Rock Band or Guitar Hero thing that Mandy and Tim have in the basement family room!:scared1:
Have a marvelous day!

Glad you found us. I know you will love reading about everyone's wish trips and we will all love hearing about your experiences.:goodvibes
:cheer2: Yeah, Lindsey has a new hot water heater :cheer2: No more leaks and now once everything dries out, they can put down new carpet in the room next to where that pesky problem is and really be moved in. It was a little touch and go last night when the water was turned off and they couldn't find a few parts necessary to get that thing installed. Lucky thing Uncle Jason is a plumber or things would have gotten really ugly really fast.:scared1:
I am starting to think about packing...I hate that part so much. Besides, I haven't finished up a couple of things that will need to go with us. Right now, the nurse in me is trying to figure out the best compact first aid kit, that doesn't weigh 40 pounds and take up the same space as a small child! When Mike and I go to WDW alone, I don't so much worry about it but I am a little obsessed with things this trip. You know, disinfectant wipes, waterless hand sanitizer in massive amounts, anti itch, anti burn, anti everything else, tylenol, advil, benadryl (for me, I have horrible allergies) LISTS, LISTS, must have more lists!

We put little bottles of hand sanitizer in each kiddos bag, and then anytime we were in a line for a few minutes I would take one of them out and have everyone use. As well as before meals, and I also was a nazi about no hands in the mouth..I didn't want anyone sick during vacation..thats what the school year is for LOL! Also, anytime we got off a bus, or monorail I would pull some out and hit everyone up as we were exiting! I know, I m a freak!

Well, thanks to a little bit of depressing news from Jeanne (jham), :sad1: I will not be getting the "positively perfect pettislips" for Karlyn and Gabby. I will however be making the "somewhat adequate Grandma Kelly fluffy slips" that will have to do at this point. I will post pictures when I am a little closer to having them done. This weekend, I finished off the Mickey appliques on the three t-shirts for Lindsey, Mandy and Me and did the matching Wish t-shirt iron-on's for the 5 of us that are not the "official wish family". They turned out nice thanks to Jeanne and Piper for the help with the template. The names are not in the same cute font that Piper used but our lovely printer wouldn't support the cute font so we got the plain font:confused3 Oh well, grandpa says compared to the kids, we are the plain font!:rotfl:
I also used up the rest of the lovely orange hawaii fabric and made 6 more little girls dresses for the rest of the granddaughters...I don't care if I ever sew another piece of orange fabric in my life! 16 items is just too many!
Mandy is in Atlanta this week for business and I am not good with a camera but if I can get some help, I will try to post some pictures.
Hope things are ok up by Jeanne's house, there is quite a fire burning in her direction in the foothills here today and the smoke is really bad. My office is not too far from her house and even inside, you can smell the smoke!
Pics soon I hope.

:scared1: sorry I was the bearer of depressing news! You have been busy! Get that camera going! The fire up by my house is kinda crazy, but not close enough to worry about. I took a good picture of it this morning when it was getting started. (and posted it in the forbidden disboutiquer land) The fire looks pretty close in the picture! And I had to drive the kids home from school because the air is so bad, but other than that we are fine. I can smell it in the house here too. I'm getting so excited for your trip!

Jeanne, glad the fire is moving up the mountain this morning. :goodvibes Still lots of smoke in the valley though. I guess it will be at least a day or two until they get it controlled. I took a night off from sewing last night and sat in the Hot Tub and read a book, well not the whole book. I was going through Olympic withdrawl and NFL preseason game was just not doing it for me! I'll get back to the sewing tonight. I am still sorting out the pettiskirt thing in my mind so we'll see how it goes.

I can't believe that you leave in 15 days :woohoo: :woohoo:
One trick that worked with us is that we bought 2 cases of water from Walmart and bought empty water bottles that have an insulated sleeve over them and a long lanyard attached to it. We filled the bottles with ice and then water and the water stayed cool all day long. We had back packs that we brought water with us and just kept filling the insulated bottles. It saved money (water is expensive in the parks). We also bought rain ponchos at walmart. They were $8 each in the parks and $3 at walmart, just in case. Hopefully you won't need them. We also brought little packets of powdered drink mix to add to water for lunch, Like Propell or Gator Aid to replace electrolytes because of all the sweating.
When you go into MK, make sure you visit the Main Street Bakery.
OMG, the best cinnamon buns I have ever had :thumbsup2

Great ideas, especially the water. We have frequently frozen the bottles and then let them thaw during the day. I think we have some of those insulated bottles. I'll have to look for them. My husband is a huge fan of those powder packets. He has diabetes and so we get the ones without added sugar for him but we have used them all summer long. Flavored electrolyte packets will make wonderful sense. We have been collecting rain ponchos so that we have one for everyone and a couple of extras. We also have a bunch of those collapsable (?) umbrellas that I will pack just in case. The reason we have a bunch is because of all the times I forget to pack one! I have my fingers crossed that we won't have a storm like you had. I will most definitely check out that bakery. I do love me some good bakery food! Carbs are my favorite, well, that and chocolate.:rotfl2:
Fun postcards came to our house yesterday. When the kids stop by on their way to soccer practice, I will give them the cards. I do believe that I am acquainted with the pixies who sent them! They are so cute!:thumbsup2 Thanks!

The disboutique big give is a wonderful group of people who sew, craft and assorted other skills and then decided to share them with Make A Wish kids and their families for their trip to WDW. They make custom outfits for the kids to wear and also send "pixie dust" like stickers, hairbows, coloring books, crayons, colored pencils, autograph books, etc. They are amazing people:love: who are so generous and kind. They have a thread located on the Disney for Families board.

Thank you to both of you for spreading pixie dust our way.
Here is an extra picture for all of you. Karlyn was in one of her very goofy moods that day. I can only imaging how goofy she will be as we get closer to the trip.

Thanks to 100acreprincess and enchantedprincess for the packages. :goodvibes You really are special princesses in our family. As I have said before, we have been practicing autographs using scrap paper so that the kids will be experts by the time we get to Florida:rotfl:
Well, I know that for some of you the word RAIN is really a four letter word  but here in Utah we have not had much rain at all this summer and have had many 100 degree days. Our humidity has been around 18-20%. Yesterday it was 98 at my house and it was really too hot. My husband took some of our family to the BYU football game and almost cooked in the sun even with sunscreen SPF 50. I stayed home because I don't do well in that much heat for the afternoon. Now tonight, it is RAINING:banana:   and my outdoor thermometer says 59 degrees!:cool1: We really don't want rain when we are in Florida but right now it is wonderful here. However, the power is out at Lindsey's house and they were told it would be probably 1 am before they have power. 17,000 homes are without power in their area right now. I told her they could come to my house but the kids are having too much fun with flashlights!
Have a wonderful holiday tomorrow and don't forget to fly your flags!

We are all singing "Rain, Rain go away! Come again another day!" But we do have our raingear ready to go into the suitcases. Besides, don't you know I love a boat ride at Disney and we own a canoe so we do know how to paddle one!:rotfl:
You only have 2 days so now it's time to buy the snacks, clean the house and get your babies ready for their grand sleepovers! We figure that we will probably be at GKTW by around 6 pm on the 10th. When you get back from whatever you are doing that day, check at the main desk and I will make sure Lindsey leaves a note for you so that you can track them down that night if you would like. If you are too busy, we will totally understand but if you get a moment from your adventures, it would be great for a quick little Hello--mini Dis meet! Oh, Lindsey's last name is Ziemski!

Thanks, we think they are quite wonderful! Your kids wouldn't lose them, 'cause you wouldn't let them...and they would have so much fun too.
Hope day two at school is good for your daughter. Our little granddaughter Kaylee, who started Kindergarten yesterday came by last night to tell us all about her wonderful day at Big School! It was so cute.

Another tip that I learned here on the Disboards is that if you find a place that has the fountain drinks, they will give you a free cup of ice water! And, if they don't have water, they will often give you a free cup of ice, and then you can put water in it from a fountain. I was so happy to have this tip on our last trip! Many of the carts have the ice water and all the counter services have them. And, they don't even look at you funny for asking! It really was a lifesaver for us somedays!
I sent a package for Karlyn the other week, and I'm hoping it reaches you before you leave! And, that it fits, and she likes it... Oh so much to worry about!
I'm sorry you weren't able to get the pettis! I order them for people, but they take at least 6 weeks to get in, and your trip is coming up so quick!!!! Yeah!
hmmm, maybe I should have introduced myself FIRST! I am Teresa from over on the Disboutique thread. :)

When we startesd this whole adventure our paperchain was 109 links long.
Now we are down to only 7. I cant believe that we are down to only 1 week!!The kids could not be anymore excited:cool1:

Me on the other hand could not be anymore stressed out. We have never done a big family vacation and Gabby has never been on a plane. She is insistant that she is going to need to use her "barf bag". I am not sure how things are going to go. I have thought alot about packing and what I need to pack but have not started yet. Bigdisgrandma is the "Professional" Disney World traveler. I guess we will just to trust her and follow her lead.
We did receive the package from Teresa yesterday.

The package included a very cute card from Theresa's daughter Arminda Sue. Karlyn loved the birds that Arminda had drawn above the heart wearing a crown. Karlyn says the crown means it is a princess heart. princess: Inside the card were stickers of Karlyn's favorite princesses.

Bigdisgrandma is working on a pettiskirt that will fit perfectly under this dress.
This next picture would be the reaction I got when I told Karlyn it was time to take the dress of to put her P.J's on.

Thank you Teresa and Arminda for the thoughtful gift. It will add more joy to our trip that we could have created ourselves.:grouphug:

As soon as Lindsey brings back the camera, I will post some pictures of the Pettislips that have taken up most of my spare time for the last 5 days! My husband is getting really sick of the ruffles everywhere!
I was just starting to think about what I am going to wear on this trip! I have a nice orange hawaiian outfit and a darling Wish trip shirt but beyond that...I better start planning that part of the trip or I could have some really serious problems in Florida!

Wait stop everything!!! You mean I have to worry about packing something for myself? I did not get anywhere near enough customs for the whole week. What am I going to do now? :confused3
Mom, I will bring the camera to your house tomorrow when I run Brody out your way for soccer.
By the way I did just finnish the very last of the 14 pairs of little girls socks to match the clothes they received from the Disboutiquers.

Teresa, you are so wonderful. I have so much enjoyed the friendships that we have made because of the marvelous disBoutiquers. Your talents are not just in creating beautiful gifts but in your caring hearts and loving concern. You have also done so well in teaching your darling children to be just as compassionate and giving. You are truly examples of loving and serving! For ever and ever, our family will cherish and hold dear to our hearts the memories of this magical trip because of you.

I don't know about the kids but it is getting harder and harder for me to sleep. We feel just like that Disney commerical where the kids can't sleep! My sweet husband just keeps say how excited he is for this trip.
6 days..wooo hooooo:woohoo:
And not many days after that for you! Hope you are more successful at getting the packing going than I am!

It is unbelievable to me how talented those disBoutiquers are! Teresajoy did a beautiful job on the dress. In fact everyone did. It really is hard to pick a favorite because they are all so darling. Even the things sent to Brody are unbelievable though he won't let me say they are darling!
Hope your weather stays good and you don't have to evacuate again too soon. Lindsey has taken to worrying about Hurricanes. Tonight the phone call started out with 4 words "Mom, Ike is coming!" At first I had no idea what she was talking about. Then she starts telling me about her personal hurricane watch! I just can't worry about a hurricane, I am still worring about important stuff like what I am going to wear!:rotfl:

I think that the best thing is that the sooner we go, the closer all your trips become. It seemed like forever and then everyone started going and the time is just flying by. I hope I can do as good a job as the other "trip reporters" have done to share the wonder of a Wish trip!

Tell Hannah and Logan that I will be sure to have Brody, Gabby and Karlyn on the look out for a snoring tree! I'll have them get some ice cream and think about you guys too! I have been so excited because of your report on your trip and the others, I almost feel like we have already been and now we get to go again!
Thanks to you all for hanging in with us! I truly can't believe that I only have to work Monday and Tuesday and then we will be on our way!

Yeah we're keeping an eye on Ike too. I hope that it doesn't mess up the trip. Tell Lindsey i feel her pain/worry, tell her to watch it but not get to obsessed, i catch myself getting that way and I worry myself sick. Here's to hoping for great weather.
