I thought I remembered reading that there was a Disney outlet somewhere near WDW. This is the first trip that we will have a car, so we thought we'd check it out. Can anyone give me some info? TIA!

There is a WDW outlet (two, actually) near Disney. The closest one is on State Road 535 (I THINK -might be 536), called the Buena Vista Outlet, and it's not far from the Downtown Disney area. However, I've been there, and it's really not all that great. The selection is really lacking.
The much nicer, and newly remodeled outlet is at the Prime Outlet mall, on International Drive, near Universal. I believe you would take the Kirkman Road exit off I-4 east and I-Drive is right there. Even though I'm local, I'm bad with directions.
This is a nicer store though, much nicer! They just re-did this section of the mall last year, so everything is very modern and bright. The store has a good selection of stuff, mostly things Disney was trying to clear out, and there are some good deals there. Lots of older pins, some plush, t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, watches, collectibles, Christmas ornaments, autograph books, coloring books, toys, etc.

I'm interested in learning more as well. We went to a character outlet during our 2006 trip to DISNEYLAND and they had LOTS of park merchandise. Mostly from the 50th year celebration. It was very cheap also. I brought co-workers back keychains that were marked buy one get 5 free!! Not cheapy looking ones either. These were PIRATES, STITCH, MICKEY, etc.

I went to one in January. It was around the crossroads area. I think the name of the road may be vineland road?
It was a little bit down that road and I remember it being in with a group of other outlet stores ...oh..and I remember it had a parking garage. Let me look for a map to see if I can find something better. (My directions are usually like... go left at dunkin donuts, right at Mcdonalds, straight past Subway :rolleyes1
