Okay, you've all got me. Hook line and sinker!

I'm ADDICTED to the DIS Weddings board. I love finding and reading new PJs and looking at people's dresses and rings, and helping Brides to be pick jewlery and favors!

I myself am not a bride (yet!) but I don't think DBF is planning it anytime soon so unfortunately no PJ from me. :( But I do have something I can contribute!

DBFs sister recently became engaged to a wonderful guy! They're planning on July of next year and have begun the planning and are in the early stages.

So I hope that maybe, I can play DIS bride too and keep this thread as a "I'm involved in a wedding and here's what I have to do" type thing!

I hope that I can keep you guys entertained with some from the sideline planning and wedding fun!

Well now that someone else did, I will come out of lurking too!:lmao:

I am not a disbride, nor will I be anytime soon. I have been dating dbf for less than a month, lol. Although I think I should start hinting now.

I have been married before so maybe I can offer some help there. The first time around was a disaster. I really wanted it to be a Disney Wedding but exhusbands family is Catholic and well...the rest is history lol.

If it helps, we've been together for over 2 years, and have a son together, and he's like "I don't want to rush into anything" when I brought it up to him a few months back.

Needless to say, I was NOT a happy Summer.

I was more like ":furious:I BIRTHED YOUR CHILD AND YOU DON'T WANT TO RUSH INTO ANYTHING!"

But, I finally got a "I picked out the ring, and it'll be in August" out of him after harassing him for, oh, 6 months now?

Dbf mentioned spending Christmas together (because of his work schedule he already knows he will have it off which isn't usual). When I told him my grandmother is VERY old fashioned and doesn't let anyone outside come to Christmas unless they are engaged to or married to one of the family.

He said we will just have to be engaged by then:eek: I know he was just kidding...but still:lovestruc

I don't feel so bad about being a total lurker now ;)

When I was 11 I was staying at the Grand Floridian and got to witness a bridal party getting their pictures done on the staircase and I have been in love with the idea of a Disney Wedding ever since  One of my best friends (error_kitten on here) got married back in 2006 at WDW and I was in the bridal party. It was the most incredible wedding ever and I've been lurking on here ever since :)

I've been with my boyfriend for 2 years and 3 months, but we aren't planning on getting hitched any time soon (that I am aware of!) He is well aware of my Disney wedding love though, less then six months into our relationship we went to Disney and rode on the monorail past the wedding pavilion and I said, in a very certain and sure of myself voice, that I would one day be getting married there :rotfl2:

Can I join in too?? :woohoo: I am a huge lurker on this board! I am not a disbride at the moment but hope to be in the future. I was married before and I ended up choosing to have a big home wedding even though Disney was my dream. Next time around I am not compromising! DBF and I have been together almost three years. I am hoping by the end of the year we will get engaged but I don't know.... We are buying a house right now so I am not sure.... I can hope!

You know a lot of it for me is that I have done it all...and learned from it. No one cares about the hours you put into favors, seating charts, etc. I know someone people like the traditional way of doing things, but not me. I want to have a very private and personal wedding with my close family. PLUS, I love Disney so it all makes sense. I'm in the game early with dbf...start working on hints now!!

Yay!! I am sooo happy that you started this thread and that other people replied; I am a huuuuuge lurker on this board. I've been on the DIS since I was 11 (Teen Board back then under a different username; what I chose when I was 11 is too embarassing for me now :rotfl: !) and now I'm a junior in college and I've been lurking on the Weddings Board for a little while now :goodvibes ! It's so nice to see everyone coming out of lurkdom!

When I read this, I had to laugh, because it's me! I've been with DBF for about two years, and we took The First Step (trip to Disney!!! :lovestruc ) a few months ago. I did THE SAME EXACT thing on the monorail, and also without even intending for it to be a hint.... But now I'm kinda glad that that's what it turned into:cool1: !

DBF is two years older than me, and we both know I'd have to finish school before we could think about anything happening, so in the meantime I will (not-so) patiently wait and live through the current DIS Brides!!!

And to everyone from Massachusetts, I live in RI! :wave2:

Thanks again for this thread!! It's so nice not to have be a complete lurker anymore!

I guess I am a bit jaded when it comes to that. I spent months working on that kind of stuff...only to have everyone leave the reception around 9:30 (blizzard!!) and never mention any of it. I guess the way I look at it now, I would rather put my time and money into planning a Disney wedding! Although I have seen some of those cute welcome bags and would definitely have to do those!! lol. I probably would change my mind about everything if I got married again. Although I have a feeling that dbf would want to get married here in NY....if it ever came to that with us anyway ;)

You can never have too much UNBIASED help when it comes to a planning a wedding:) I personally would enjoy the point of view of someone who is removed from all the chaos and sees a wedding from a different perspective! Brides talk to Brides from a Bride's point of view and our Moms? PLEASE! Thats a whooooole other thread:rotfl2: ...Moral of my "story" you are so welcome to contribute. Feel free to give any and all opinions regarding my posts:) BTW, I am from Boston, if anyone REALLY wants to do an "all night favor crafting session"

Yay! I am LOVING this thread :yay: - I too am a long time lurker.. hopefully one day Disney bride!!!

DBF and I have been together three and a half years now. We talk about engagement all the time and he assures me it's just a matter of him saving for the bling :cool1: tee hee.

I've also casually walked DBF past the wedding pavillion and told him one day he'll be getting married there. He's okay with it as long as he gets to choose the car.. yay!

Ooh.. favour making and invitation making and centerpiece making and much craft fun!!! For me, that would be the most fun part!!!

I could really use some input on my "at home reception". We will be coming back from Disney on 8/26 and the "reception" is on the 31st!!!!! I have no clue how to tie the Disney factor in and do it in a classy way....to make matters MORE complicated, we are having it in our backyard. A "mickey's backyeard bbq" kind of thing. We are really trying to keep it on the economical side as the ceremony at Disney is killing us! Favors????? Decor???::yes:: Any suggestions? MEG?????????:goodvibes

oh oh my dear, you have opened up a can of worms... (or martha stewart living)

You want classy vs casual? I vote you have either a caterer or a "bring your favorite BBQ dish" from everyone and have it like a picnic deal.

If you are going for a picnic/backyard bqq theme, I think picnic baskets as centerpieces would be awesome. Maybe filled with flowers or fresh fruit (doubles as food!) or both. Checkered tablecloths and Tiki torches would fit really well with a bqq theme too. Seed packets would be cute favors, with your names and date on the front.

As for food, I'd definitely do it potluck style. Ask everyone to bring a favorite dish. It will save you lots on food and fit well with the picnic/backyard bbq theme.

Yesss! Edible Arrangements are awesome. I told my bf that if he ever wanted to buy me flowers they should be made of fruit and dipped in chocolate :rotfl:

Those are kind of pricey though, but if you can get them you should. You could just DIY to save some money and use fruit like apples, pears, oranges, etc. pretty much anything with a skin and put it all in a basket with some flowers or by itself. I love centerpieces with fruit and flowers, they always look so nice.

ETA: I just found a how-to-make-your-own-fruit-bouquet! (http://www.plan-the-perfect-baby-shower.com/fruit-bouquet.html)

I love centerpieces with fruit and flowers, they always look so nice.

ETA: I just found a how-to-make-your-own-fruit-bouquet! (http://www.plan-the-perfect-baby-shower.com/fruit-bouquet.html)

1st thanks Arelys for the link! I'm going to make one 2nite;) Just to try it out!
2nd Meg, you can help me all you want!
3rd Meg and Mandy, it's ok to pick out your wedding stuff b/c it's true you do "just know".
I was married once before and the whole engagement I kept thinking...I'm not sure if I am nervous or if he isn't "Him". This time, none of that. A.A.M.O.F, as I drove home from our first date, I called my sister and said, "this is it, he is the one". He told me he knew it very VERY quickly too...just being SUCH a guy never said a word!
Moral? Never know what they're thinking and not telling you...:)
It also helped (according to him) that I NEVER mentioned getting married...I used to gently make fun of my wedding obsessed friends (even tho in MY head I agreed with them). Just a few words....lol thanks for all your help so far girls!

Lol thanks :) You know what's wierd..dbf has already told me many times that he just knows we are going to be together. He makes frequent reference to things in the future saying us and we and OUR, lol. It's actually quite cute. He was saying the other day about how expensive getting engaged is going to be for him (half j/k of course!) And went on and on about he will have to ask my dad first (which my dad will LOVE, exhusband didn't feel the need to ask my old ITALIAN daddy for permission:lmao: ) and then he and my mom would go shopping so he'd know exactly what to get. :lovestruc

And helping you is fun!

you girls are too much :) thanks for the well wishes :) im fine now, i'm actually stayign at the boys house for a week cuz we're watching the house/feeding the animals cuz his parents took the RV to maine for the week, but my DBFs snake died last night so im pretty bummed about that but other than that everythign is good.

speaking of last night, DBFs sister came over (she got a new apartment like 2 towns away and needed to do laundry :P) with her fiance, and we were talkign about wedding stuff and she was asking me for opinions on colors, and what type of flowers and stuff and I told her about how I have a 'wedding consultant forum' (read: you guys :)) and if she needs anythign to let me know and I can ask you guys/look it up....so now all of you can be involved in helping plan DBFs sisters wedding indirectly! :)

and about laundry... I've lived at hoem my whole life, and I've never needed to do laundry (thanks mom!:hippie: ) but now that I'm going to be here for the week, DBF needs his work clothes cleaned and I need to clean myc lothes too..so I'm attempting laundry and so far I've ruined a pair of pj shorts and a pj shirt with bleach already :( I wish they had classes like 'Being Domestic 101' because I don't klnow the first thing about laundry, or cooking, or taking out the trash or anything.....looks like DBF might have to help be the wife too :rotfl: (PS im not sayign all wives should cook.clean and do laundry, but I know DBF cant/doesnt know how and right now I'm the one with the free time so yeah :goodvibes )

Awwww, lol. I could teach a class on being domestic. Or I can loan you these funny books my grandma bought me when I got married the first time...how to do everything around the house.

Dbf and I were talking last night and I said when we buy a house I will have a self cleaning oven after having to clean the one at my old apartment this weekend. And he said if we get that, then we have to get a dishwasher cause he doesn't do dishes!!

We should probably get back on topic of non-disney brides lurking huh? Not sure what that is, lol.

I have a folder saved on my computer at home of wedding ideas, rings and dresses. I also have this beautiful pic of a wedding on the beach at WP that I would LOOOVEE to do, but it was probably a Wishes wedding that I will never be able to afford!

Hope I'm not too late to join in with you "lurkers". I wasn't a Disney bride either. But I do *HOPE* to be able to renew our vows in Disney in the next few years. We had a small church wedding, and though I wouldn't change anything about it, I would love to be able to really have a grand vow renewal. It's too soon to actually plan anything, though I have been looking at dresses.

Haha never too soon!! Most of us on this thread aren't even engaged, lol.

DBF was talking about getting married again last night and I think we have some very different ideas...he wants a big wedding, lots of people, open bar (sounded more like a party with his friends, lol) Men:rolleyes: I feel bad because it's my second time I don't think I will want to invite as many people...What I really want is a small intimate wedding...preferably at Disney...then he can have a big reception when we get home. I doubt I will win that one.

You can call 30 days in advance to book it. If you pre-purchase the photopass cd the sitting is 25 and you get your own photopass photographer for 20-30 mins at either the GF, Poly or Saratoga Springs (BC/YC, WL, and AKL are being added at some point) and you get all your pictures added to your photopass cd.

Well we are quite a ways off although if it were up to him we would be married and pregnant by this time next year, lol. When it's mean to be, it's meant to be I guess...but we've only been together for 2 months, lol.

MY DBF and I are thinking about December 09 for a wedding, and I'd love to get married December 8th (my grandmother's wedding anniversary), but I don't want to start a PJ until we are engaged, ya know?

Any of you have any ideas of locations you want? Toni helped me find a BEAUTIFUL picture (love2b@disney's wedding I think) of Italy's Courtyard.

Well I would love to have a very small wedding...right now I am thinking Sea Breeze Point but where I would really love to have it is on the beach in between the wedding pavilion and the GF. I found a pic once and it was soo pretty. I am not sure they even do that anymore, plus it would probably have to be Wishes.

Congrats btw...can't wait to hear about the engagement when it happens. Has he hinted at all to when?

Well, a month ago, he said two different months; December of this year and June of next. I think he's trying to leave me a false trail though, so I don't think it's either of those. I'm hoping before the end of this year though, so I have a year to plan!

The best part about my BF is that he wants a DFTW just as much as I do! So I don't have to convince him. I just have to worry about the rest of my family, lol. That part will be difficult because I come from an Old-Fashioned Italian-Irish Catholic family. And technically, we are suppose to get married in the church, BUT (and this is my loophole) my DBF isn't Catholic, so it can't really be done (I know it can if he commits to converting but SHHH, my family doesn't know that!)

I started hinting now to my mom and dad that I am going to have my wedding at Disney, and that it wouldn't be 100,000 (which is what they thought it would be) so, I think it'll be less of a blow to them. They actually said they won't go over 20k, so I think I'm good :)

Lol I can totally relate...my exhusbands family was Catholic...to the T! They refused to let us have a Disney wedding and while I didn't have to convert I did have to agree to raise our children catholic and go to pre-cana classes. Right now he is trying to get an anulment so he can get married again:rotfl: Catholicism confuses me! I was always made I settled and didn't go through with a Disney wedding (although his family wouldn't have gone). I have heard some priests will "bless" the marriage when you get back though...

Well, you see. I'm not as catholic as my family. I don't even go to church anymore, because I just didn't agree with some of the teachings. My parents were really upset about it at first (and probably still are, but more quiet about it). I'll go to mass on holidays and my grandfather's mass once a year, but that's really to keep the peace in my family just a tad.

I thought you had to convert? I guess it depends on the diocese?

And don't worry, Catholicism confuses me sometimes too, and I was born into it!

My view of the Disney Wedding: Only the people who WANT to be there will come, and the ones who go to a wedding for the sake of "family commitment" and don't really want to be there, well I'm giving them excuse not to go, and I save money on food! I know my state of mind will change when most of my family says no, but I'm content with my theory now. I know people are going to try to push into it, but I simply won't let them.

My famous cop out, "are you offering to pay for my wedding? If not, put a lid on it, because you're opinion doesn't matter" Another thing that might go to the dogs when the time comes >_<

We had a full catholic mass at our wedding too...but I NEVER converted, much to the dismay of my former mil. But I do know that unless he gets the anulment, I can never be remarried in the catholic church (if I happen to find another catholic I would marry:rotfl: )

I really like the idea of a very small intimate wedding someplace that means something to me. I don't want all the hoopla. I do know my current dbf has his heart set on a huge reception and has mentioned several people he wants in the wedding (if we ever get that far).I am hoping if the time comes I can convince him to have the ceremony my way and he can have the biggest party when we get home. I also want my brother to be our officiant (he's an ordained minister, no specific demoniation) I think it will be more personal this way:lovestruc

But you are right...and if I learned anything from doing this once already, is do it the way YOU want...don't worry about wedding etiquette and who you might affend because they can't come. It's your wedding!!

On a side note, I keep hearing this song on my IPod that I just love and am starting to think it would make a good song for a ceremony.

"Feels Like Home"

Somethin' in your eyes, makes me wanna lose myself
Makes me wanna lose myself, in your arms
There's somethin' in your voice, makes my heart beat fast
Hope this feeling lasts, the rest of my life

If you knew how lonely my life has been
And how long I've been so alone
And if you knew how I wanted someone to come along
And change my life the way you've done

It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I come from
It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong

A window breaks, down a long, dark street
And a siren wails in the night
But I'm alright, 'cause I have you here with me
And I can almost see, through the dark there is light

Well, if you knew how much this moment means to me
And how long I've waited for your touch
And if you knew how happy you are making me
I never thought that I'd love anyone so much

It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way the back where I come from
It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong

hi ladies! i'm in the same boat as y'all. i love love love wedding stuff! it comes from being engaged when i was 18, i think...i just never got out of the planning mode, lol!

funny story: my best friend was attending a wedding this last weekend, and she had bought two dresses that she was considering wearing. She asked me to give my opinion on them...she pulls out one, a nice black one with a cute ivory bow in the middle, and then she pulls out...a WHITE dress!! :faint:
"Jill, you canNOT wear a white dress to a wedding!"
"But I like this one, are you sure..."
"WOMAN, YOU CANNOT WEAR A WHITE DRESS TO A WEDDING!"
okay, so it was kind of ivory colored, but still...i mean, i'm all for the bucking all the old fashion rules, but i think that one should be observed!!

well that's all i got for now, but i just wanted to say hello, and megveg here's some pixiedust: for you!

and ooooh i LOVE this dress!

Lol welcome to the club...and I know exactly what you mean. My exhusband proposed in the WORST way.

We had planned on moving in together but after his VERY catholic family told him they would disown him if he moved in with me, we began planning a wedding.

About 4 months after all the wedding planning had started, he proposed to me in the parking lot of his dorm...with a big PLASTIC ring...in a fake Tiffany box he bought on Ebay (he had the real ring in his pocket). UGH.

I think dbf will do a great job when the time comes

Wow. I'm so excited that MainStMandy sent me this link.

I'm ADDICTED to the DIS Weddings board. I love finding and reading new PJs and looking at people's dresses, rings (especially because i want one sooo bad), photos (they all have been absolute beautiful, their are some amazing photographers down there), all their choices, family issues (only because i'm sure i'll have a ton).. the list can go on and on and on...

I myself am not a bride (yet!) and DBF is NOT planning it anytime soon so unfortunately no PJ from me. But that doesn't stop me from wishing, and hoping and dreaming and planning.. hehehh : )

let me introduce myself.. i'm Racheal : ) I'm 23... i live in the Capital of Canada. Luckily for me, Dbf and I will be travelling to WDW in about 6 days. :woohoo:

Combine wedding fever and baby fever...welcome to my world!

I don't have baby fever yet mostly because I am living vicariously through my best friend who found out just a few weeks ago that she is pregnant :cloud9: Focusing on her pregnancy and my future "niece" or "nephew" should tide me over for a while.

How is it that I hadn't found this thread before?!

Anyway, yes, I lurk around these boards WAY too much. I'm Laura, 19 years old and I've been with my DBF for 2 years this October. He is two years younger than myself, but I can't wait until he proposes which I'm wishing/hoping is on our anniversary next month... *crosses fingers*
I'd love to have an intimate Disney wedding, but not for another 4 or 5 years, we both want to be done or nearly done with college when it happens. I'm not sure we will be able to afford it, but I really hope so, it's like a dream of mine. Other than that, I have everything planned when it comes to my dream wedding.
So I go through bouts of wedding fever and baby fever every few months, hehe.
So I wanna say, hello all fellow not-yet-brides like mysellf! :D :goodvibes

Thought I would show you girls my engagement ring from my first marriage...along with a little story.

When my grandmother was in her early 20's, her brother wanted to propose to his girlfriend. Their mother gave them him the ring to propose with (can't remember if it was hers or she bought a new one). The engagement didn't end up happening, but my grandmother got the ring when she was engaged to my grandfather. Fast forward YEARS later and the diamond falls out :scared1: As a suprise anniversary present, my grandfather replaces the diamond in her ring.

When my grandmother heard that we were getting married (let's remember...wedding planning before engagement  ) She offered that ring to me. Well it wasn't really my style (3 stone, yellow gold)...but the jewelers my family uses said they could take the diamond out and put it in another ring:woohoo:

I love love love my engagement ring, but sadley refuse to wear it. When I have some extra cash, I want to take the diamond back out and put it in something I WILL wear.

Oh, thank you! Yes, red is my favorite color so I decided to use it a lot. I want everyone's bouquets to be red roses and the colors for my wedding are silver, white and red. The person closes to me there would be my best friend, she's dressed in silver because she wants to be my flower girl even though she's way over that age. :rotfl:

Oh, don't worry, I have the whole thing planned!:rotfl2:
I'd like to get married around October, because Halloween is my favorite holiday. So I was thinking somewhere between Oct. 12-23. As for venues, yes, I want a Disney Intimate wedding as it's all I could afford for now. I want it to be at the WP and then have dinner at California Grill and do the Grand Gatherings Wishes cruise for my friends and family. :goodvibes

I have definitely thought about it, lol. The problem is what I want conflicts. I would love to do pink and green...and have a ton of cool stuff picked out like pink shoes and jewelry. BUT if I do get my DFTW it will have to be in an off season when it's cooler (my dad HATES hot weather and Disney :( )

I saw pics once of someone who got married on the beach at the WP...it was gorgeous but I think those are few and far between and probably only for a Wishes Wedding. So my second choice would be SBP in the morning, with brunch afterwards.

ETA: I found this in the JCPenny Jewelry sale ad...Mom is going to try to hint to dbf this weekend, lol

Aww, thanks! The second one is a St. Pucchi, style number 9264. Hi! Yeah, the thing with us is that we're so alike character wise that we just clash sometimes. Basically, we're both strong-minded and stubborn...I mean it's not something that I can't live with but sometimes it's just a little much to handle! But we both are really working on it (and we're actually starting to notice the difference in the dynamic of our relationship now!) and things have seriously never been better!

Yep, I'm extremely anxious to finish college and get my bachelor's degree in Hospitality and get my Event Coordinator certificate! I totally want to work for DFTW! I'm actually working as a Wedding/Social Events Coordinator at a Hilton resort near my house and it's just fabulous (even though, it is kind of boring compared to having all the choices for ceremony/reception like WDW!). Maybe I'll be helping you lovely ladies plan your weddings in the future! :yay:

I *LOVE* those two rings you posted in the beginning Mandy! They are so vintage and delicate looking!

Ok. I have kept my mouth shut about this thread for quite a while and I can't do it anymore. I don't understand how this is related to wedding planning. This thread offers no advice for any brides planning their weddings and is off topic. A few months ago many members got kicked off for being "cliquey" and off topic and now we have the same thing going on and I just don't think its right to allow some to do something and not allow others. Also, this seems to be like the off topic thread they used to have before but also shut down because of people being cliquey. I think that is going down the same road and before problems arise I think the moderators should shut this thread down. I am sure I will be flamed for this post but I felt the need to say this and I don't mean it to be a b**ch.

I don't think we are off topic. We are planning our weddings, just not for the immediate future. I think this a place for those of us who are not yet engaged but are planning a wedding in the near future can get together and discuss various aspects of that. I feel very awkward going into other topics here on the wedding forums and asking questions when I'm not really getting married anytime soon. So this is kind of a safe heaven for those of us that feel that way.

Donald'sGirl
09-20-2008, 06:58 PM
I disagree. This is not on topic at all. This forum is people who are engaged and planning immediate Disney weddings, Vow Renewals and Honeymoons. Not people who are assuming they are getting married in the near future. When you do get engaged come back and ask your questions then!!! When it is for real and not fake!

Sorry if I am offending anyone but I am sorry this thread is absolutely no help to anyone but the people fantasizing when the rest of us have real issues to discuss!

I just don't see the issue of it being bothersome to the rest of the people planning their weddings. It's a single thread that you don't have to visit if you don't want to. I would understand if there were multiple threads on the same topic, that would be very bothersome, but I don't see the harm in this. :confused3

Carribbean- I am not trying to rude in any way but since you are new you don't have a lot of background I thought I would help.

Many people have gotten in "trouble" for being OT, even when it was semi related wedding stuff. The mods have cracked down saying this board needs to be for those planing weddings or HM at Disney and for those who have had them and want to provide additional info to assist those in the planning process.

This has been a great haven for that, and we have all gotten lots of great info. But to clog up the page with OT threads and responses is confuing to those looking for planning info and wasting our time.

Good luck to you and your BF and I wish you the best, but I know many of us come here needing accurate info and guidance and cab't be distracted with these OT threads.

This is all I will say on it since I have planing to do, and hopefully the mods will intervene.

I just wanted yout o have a little background why some of us are gtting snarky with this thread.

I fail to see why this is considered off-topic. No, most of us on here are not getting married any time soon, but this was started as a place where all lurkers could fess up. None of us meant any harm and even a few nice, real brides were very welcoming and kind at the beginning. It did probably get side tracked along the way, even if that wasn't our intention. I can only speak for myself when I say that I love reading all the PJs and TRs, but quite honestly I don't feel comfortable posting a comment simply because I am not engaged/married.

I don't think we are at all a "clique" I highly doubt anyone in here would shun anyone else who is actually getting married. We welcome everyone in this thread, married, engaged, whatever you may be. In fact, I'm pretty sure one bride came in here looking for some help and some of us helped her out as best as we could. I'm sure we would be ready and willing to do the same. Just because we may not be planning, doesn't mean we don't know a thing or two about weddings.

We were all just trying to be part of this board in our own way. This very thread is how some of got the courage to finally come out of lurkdom and post. There is no need to be so rude, unwelcoming, and dare I say, clique-y :sad2:

I don't think anyone participating on this thread meant any harm towards others, but the mods in the past have been very strict about OT threads, even OT posts sometimes! Seems trivial, but it's a rule that the mods created on here & I understand why other girls are getting a little upset.

There was a very similar thread on here a while ago-all Disney brides but according to the mods, a single thread like this is considered cliquey & is against the Disboard rules. Although the thread was perfectly harmless (and a great idea!), the mods closed it down to be consistent with their rules.

Closing down one thread like this & keeping another one open would not be fair or consistent. I'm actually surprised that the mods let it go on for this long...

You can look at this sticky for more info on OT rules:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1538129

I think you guys should feel more than welcome to respond to other wedding related threads on here, ask questions about your future plans, & comment about ours, but if you want a place to get together, you may consider starting a thread like this on the Community Boards-you are welcome to be as OT or whatever as you want over there & having a single thread would be a very safe haven. Just a suggestion.

I don't think anyone meant any harm and honestly I don't see the harm in chatting about off topic stuff but obviously that is the rule of the board and that is fine because we all need rules. The only thing that upset me is that a lot of my friends got kicked off or warned about being "off topic" so I guess it kind of rubbed me the wrong way.

Also, I just want to add that there is nothing wrong with asking questions on here even if you are not engaged yet but have questions about weddings.I am more than happy to help anyone and I am sure the other brides here agree with me. I am not mad that you guys want to chat, and we all dream about our future weddings which I totally get, I am just mad that the moderators are being inconsistent. With that said I don't mean to cause any drama, that is not what I intended to do I just feel bad for my friends that got kicked off. :)

I don't really agree that this thread is entirely OT (although I haven't really sat down and read it from page 1 on - I followed for the first page, but then realized it didn't really apply to me as I was much farther along in the planning stages by the time I finally discovered the DIS)...

However, I DO agree that this thread is unfair to those of us that have been scolded, warned, and even banned for a similar offense.

A side note - I thought the gals on the knot were nice enough at first, until I discovered a whole thread bashing disbrides (some of the older gals might remember when knot members came over here disguised as disbrides and made their own "characters" to play - most were pink-obsessed-exaggerated-princessy types mock obsessed with disney. It was insulting and terribly rude - not to mention the undercovers would go back to the knot and report to the rest of the knotties about how funny it was and how pathetic we are :snooty: . It made me feel terrible and look at them in a completely different light. Be sure if you go over there, not to mention your DFTW... :( It's a pretty generic statement, i'm sure it's not applicable to ALL of them, but the ones I've seen so far were very judgmental - I figure, if I don't judge their catholic church/country club weddings they should leave us alone.

If posts about a baby whose parents were married at Disney and conceived at Disney are off topic, then a thread about not ACTUALLY planning a wedding are off topic too. I left the dis after my friend (a recent disbride) was kicked off for wanting to talk about her Disney baby and because it was clearly established that I wasn't welcome to post about my own Disney wedding/disneymoon pregnancy and baby even in my own DFTW PJ/TR.

To come back and see that people are allowed to just remain off-topic and the only connection they really have to a Disney wedding at this point is fantasy is disappointing and upsetting.

Like others have said, you hopefully future disbrides are not upsetting. The actions/inactions of the moderators is what is disappointing. And I will probably be banned for 10 days for saying that as I was three months ago.

Wow...I am shocked by some of the threads here. One of the reasons I like this board is because people are SO nice and welcoming here. But I guess since we don't have "real" topics to talk about we can't stay. And what I think is worse is people running around "tatteling". It's not as if the mods don't see us...if they felt it was OT I think we would have been told. Many of us are expecting to start planning within the next year (however presumptious)...and this is a great place for us to compare notes and compare ideas, without actually haven done anything yet.

I actually agree. Actual recent Disney brides were not welcome here because talking about the direct product of our Disney Weddings was considered not a "real" topic. So a few of us are just wondering why others are allowed to talk about whatever they want, when we couldn't talk about something that was directly related to our Disney Weddings/Disneymoons. And technically no one has "tattled" yet. If someone actually had, I know I would have already been banned for "attacking" a mod by saying that I was disappointed and implying that there is a double standard. Expressing frustration over a lack of consistency is not "tattling".

Also you're missing the point that is being made. As others have said, you are very welcome to post questions and answers throughout the Wedding/Honeymoon Planning board, before you get engaged and actually start planning. But the existence of this thread breaks the rules that the mods claims they strictly enforce.

I agree with Nikki - I really don't want to come off as old brides vs. new/potential brides -- SO not our intention!! We think it's great that you gals are so excited about planning your DFTWs and we really (like everyone said) encourage you to post on our pjs and trs and post questions and answers -- it's totally great! I think the more the merrier!! :woohoo: I was so glad to find the disbrides after starting my planning - it was great to find out there were people as excited about DFTW as I am! (even moreso maybe!) ... So, please PLEASE dont' get the wrong impression that we all want to ban ya'll from the conversation. That was not the point - it's just the double standards that all of us have been seeing lately that is starting to cheese us off. It's just plain not fair. :confused3

Please don't hate us. We just want to get to the bottom of this hypocracy. And, since this thread is going to get locked anyway at this rate - and I'll probably get warned again as I have been in the past -- but, there is a site (disneybrides.com) that lets you talk "off topic" and the girls are very friendly there. I think you gals should check it out! :dance3:

No need for any attitude. We are not attacking any of you personally. Its just that when they had the off topic thread they claimed that people were in cliques and I am sure that was not the intention of those that were posting there. Its just that a group of people get together, have things in common and become friends just like I am sure you girls are. You are all very welcome to post on the wedding board. it doesn't matter if you are not engaged. You obviously all want Disney weddings and you have the right, whether you are engaged or not to ask questions. Weddings are big events and take a lot of planning so starting off ahead of time is a good thing. Its also something that girls dream about when they are young and it is an exciting time. We just want clear rules to be established for ALL members of the boards and not just some. That is all we are saying. :thumbsup2

I think it's best to let it just happen.

Girls try not to talk about it constantly to your BF...don't pressure them. Not saying you girls are but if you do it will drive them insane. Trust me LOL!!

Toni - that sucks so much that everyone told you before hand :sad2: You had every right to be mad!

As much as I talk about and love Disney weddings, I could honestly care less about getting married any time soon. I love spending time with DBF obviously, but I know we are going to spend our lives together and I don't feel the need to rush him into anything. We joke around about wedding stuff and kind of discuss our likes/dislikes/whats important/whats not, but nothing real serious. I figure that we have time for all that and we should just enjoy each other now.

I have a feeling whenever he does propose though, I will have no freaking idea about it before hand and I like the thought of that. Hopefully though my parents can keep their big mouths shut, because I know he is going to ask my parents for their blessing beforehand, he even said so the other day :goodvibes

Yes...I planned a pretty big wedding the first time around (about 150 people). And the wedding was nothing I wanted. It was a catholic ceremony (including MASS!) in a church I had never been to. Then we had a big reception where everyone left by 9 p.m. because of a blizzard. I had no interest in a big wedding the first time, and don't the second time. I think the only thing I loved about my first wedding was my dress :)

The thing I have to consider is that this will be dbf first (and ONLY!!) wedding. So I have to compromise a bit...I have always dreamed of a very small wedding at Disney...but that might not be what he wants. So I have to be willing to bend a bit:rolleyes: The wedding itself I am a bit flexible on but I have NO desire to have a big reception...I don't want to plan centerpieces and favors and all that:scared:

MyMelody, I am so sorry to hear about your first marriage :(

Yes, I had the big wedding too and I was really young so I remember my mom and sis did most of my planning  but I was never really into doing all that by myself anyway. Now with my DF we just got engaged in August and this would be his first wedding too but we have 2 kids and it seems like planning is such a PITA that I am willing to give up and just go to court....

This would actually be a very special event let me tell you, cause if we do have the wedding it will be more to unite our family as one with our children.. When we got engaged my son was so very happy that we heard for the first 48 hours "mom, dad when is the wedding" over and over again  So it was quite a special feeling I have

Yes, I had the big wedding too and I was really young so I remember my mom and sis did most of my planning  but I was never really into doing all that by myself anyway. So is everyone planning a small wedding?
I myself am considering a small ceremony even if I don't get to do the Disney Intimate Wedding. I just don't see the point of having lots of people you don't even know...
If I do get to do my Disney Wedding, I will probably have a Catholic Ceremony before the actual ceremony here at home. I know both our families would really like that and more people could attend since I can only invite a limited amount for the Intimate ceremony.

Congratulations on your engagement! Your son sounds adorable. The picture of them in you signature is too cute :cutie:

I have a feeling my future wedding will be enormous. I have a small immediate family (just myself, parents and my little sister), but my extended family is huge. I know that if I don't invite them all they will be super offended. DBF's family is pretty big too, so I think we're SOL on a small wedding.

And my mom is totally one of those moms who will invite everyone they know to their daughter's wedding, regardless if the daughter knows everyone or not

Does anyone else's parents bug them about getting married? My parents keep telling me we need to stop living in sin

My mom actually dreads me getting married, lol. Probably because I'm the youngest of 3 and the only one still living with her. She doesn't want me to go away, hehe

I definitely want a small wedding. I don't care if dbf wants a huge reception afterwards to celebrate but I would like the actual ceremony to be small and intimate...I will probably lose that battle but a girl can try.

My mom is actually the opposite. What she wants is grandchildren and has made it quite clear I don't have to be married for that to happen:rotfl:

Hehehehe, my mom already has 6 grandchildren: 3 from my sister and 3 from my brother, so she's not desperate for those. However, the pressure is on me for the girl, because all my brother and sister have are boys! :rotfl: In fact, i'm the one that desperately wants children.

:rotfl: Mom's are funny...she hints all the time!! Actually dbf was the last one to say something. He's 31 and told me today that he wants to start having kids by the time he's 33...I told him the math didn't add up. That's only a year and a half away and babies take NINE months.:rotfl:

Back to wedding planning...I am also very against having a bridal party. But of course dbf already has like 5 guys picked out.

What about your bridal parties???

Caribbeanprincess

I'll probably have a Bridal Shower, my mom and sister love planning those. But I do want to have a fun Bachelorette party, I want to fly all my girls to Vegas for the weekend and my DBF wants to do the same, hehe
As for my Bridal Party...hmm... I'm probably going to have my sister and my best friend. Also, my other best friend wants to be my older flower girl, so that she shall be! :rotfl:

Part of me really doesn't want a bridal party. If I do have one, my little sister will probably be my MOH. My best friend is a guy, so he could be the man of honor  and my two other female friends will just be BMs. One of those female friends (she had a DFTW too) is having a baby in May and that kid is my future ring bearer or flower girl :goodvibes

Are you guys really into traditions or are you into more non-traditional weddings?

Caribbeanprincess

I'm pretty traditional, though I like a touch of non-traditional things.

For example, at the moment I'm debating wether I'd like to have a normal Disney Cake with the Castle or Cinderella topper or a Nightmare Before Christmas cake because my DBF and I started dating in October and want to have our wedding during that month. The cake is a big deal to me, lol

I don't think there is a whole lot of traditional stuff I would do...if it were left up to me :rotfl: First dance, cake cutting...maybe not seeing each other before the ceremony. But that's probably it. My dream really is just a very small intimate cermony with my brother as the officiant. I want it to be very simple and very personal to us:lovestruc

What about wedding cakes? What are you're ideas?

The cake is probably my favorite part of wedding planning, hehe

Not sure I even really care...my first wedding cake was a cheesecake!! YUM!!

I think something simple and elegant. I love those rhinestone monograms on the tops of cakes.

I have a list of DNW (do not wants) at my future wedding. No...tiaras, up-dos, veils (except for birdcage ones), tuxedos, smashing cake in each others faces, garter/bouquet toss, chicken dance, cha-cha slide...I'm sure there is more, I'm really picky :lmao:

As for cake...I love cake! And so does DBF. I really like simple, square cakes...while he would love a giant Legend of Zelda or Mario and Peach cake (bless his heart, he's a nerd!). I love the crystal monogram toppers too, Mandy. I have such a sweet tooth that I would want a whole dessert buffet...cake, pie, cupcakes, brownies, that chocolate mousse from the bakery in France...you name it (I need a drooling smilie right here!)

Remember me mentioning that I was in a DFTW two years ago? Well the cake at that wedding was the best freaking cake ever. I totally pigged out and had 3 slices  (to be honest I probably would have went back for more had I not already stuffed myself on potatoes and the tomato/mozzarella salad )

DBF and I discussed how important food is at our future weddings and with everything we both want there, we're going to have to roll our guests back to the hotel. At least it'll save on buses :rotfl:

What about you guys, is food really important to you? Sit down or buffet? Any ideas of what you'd like to eat?

Lol I LOVE the cha cha slide!!! At my first wedding (sorry I keep going back to that) we didn't allow any traditional music. Instead while we were having pics taken we had a swing dance instructor come in and teach our guests for an hour or so...then we played big band music all night :cool1:

I think the food is super important too and I definitely like the idea of a sit down better.

That is an awesome idea to have a swing dance instructor at the reception. I bet your guests loved it.

I get really embarrassed dancing, which is weird for someone who danced ballet for 15 years. DBF doesn't dance either, he has two left feet, and we've both decided that dances like the cha cha slide, macarena, ymca, chicken dance, etc., etc. are just not right for us. Unless we have an open bar, I'll think we'll pass on those  Music is going to be...interesting with us. We both have some really out there taste in music (I'm really into heavy/death metal, he likes punk) that probably wouldn't fit in at Disney or at a wedding, nor with some of our guests. Hey maybe with that open bar we could start a mosh pit....

I'd like to have a sit down dinner, but I love the variety of a buffet, especially since I'm the only vegetarian while everyone we know all pretty much each meat (I have toyed with the idea of forcing them to eat my "rabbit food" as they so affectionately call it) There are also diet restrictions and allergies that we have to take into consideration. We would probably end up with ten different choices in the end :confused3

Lol I hear you about those kind of dances...they always seemed kinda tacky to me. But I guess it's more about your guests being able to dance...especially if you and dbf don't. And with all your dietary needs, a buffet is probably better anyway.

Since you have such eccletic taste in music, do you and dbf have a song?? Curious to know what it is:goodvibes
