View Full Version : Can I play too?!

Lol I hear you about those kind of dances...they always seemed kinda tacky to me. But I guess it's more about your guests being able to dance...especially if you and dbf don't. And with all your dietary needs, a buffet is probably better anyway.
Since you have such eccletic taste in music, do you and dbf have a song?? Curious to know what it is:goodvibes
I don't know about his side and their dancing abilities, but I saw my side all rock out to "Wiggle It" back in the early 90's at my aunt and uncle's wedding...it was interesting to say the least  Even at 4, I knew some of those dance moves were just bad news. Maybe we could play that song to bring back some of memories of the good ole' days? :rotfl:
I don't think we have an "official" song, but there are tons of songs that we call "ours" (does that even make any sense?!) The more slow dance/wedding appropriate song would be "Such Great Heights" by Iron and Wine. It is kind of an acoustic/mellow song with really pretty lyrics. If you have never heard it, you could probably find it on youtube. It reminds me of DBF every time I hear it  It was in the movie Garden State, so you might have already heard it. Our other song is "I Want To Know Your Plans" by Say Anything, another beautiful song. It is going to be hard to pick between the two...can you have two first dances?
Do you and your DBF have a song?

I will definitely be looking up those songs when I get home!!
We don't really have a song..but there are songs that make me think of us. One is Feels Like Home by Chantal Kreviazuk (it's from How to Lose a Guy in 10 days) and the other is When You Know (from the movie Serendipity).
I have been looking around at local sites, in case dbf says no to a DFTW someday and found this GOREGOUS little chapel. These parents built it for their son as his dying wish. From their website: "The chapel is meant to be a celebration of family and speaks to the importance of the family in building values,"

Wow, a lot of drama has gone on while I was away! LOL...stupid work, taking me away from the DIS! I know it's probably inappropriate now since everything has died down but I felt I might as well write this to get it off my chest: like a lot of girls here, my DBF actually talks about getting married more than I do (weird, right?!)! When we were last at Disney, we were going taking the monorail to the TTC (or at least I think so...I have the worst memory ever!) and as we were passing by the WP, he turns to me and goes "There's honestly no other place in the world I would consider getting married to you than right there" and he points to the WP. I was like :lovestruc lol. In fact, he's the whole reason I found the DIS forum on Weddings! The only reason we're not actively planning our wedding (i.e. calling DFTW and such) is because we both are still in school and our parents would really like to see us graduate from college before we get married (and in this economy, you can't really blame them, KWIM?) I was kinda, sorta offended at the insinuation that we're all just desperate dreamers here but, in an effort to not fan the flames anymore, I'll shut up about it :upsidedow haha.
Anywho, I see you ladies are talking about food! I love food! :rotfl: DBF is very, very picky when it comes to eating (we literally have to look through the menus of every new restaurant we try; if there's too many veggies or foreign foods he can't pronounce, we're not going there!) and I can totally see ordering his wedding dinner from the kid's menu :upsidedow . I'm very traditional and I really want an evening sit-down meal. DBF is on the fence; he likes the freedom of a buffet but he also likes the formality of waiters bringing plates of food to everyone. We still have like 3 years or something (we want a Dec. 2011 wedding; his birthday is in Dec. and that would be the only way he wouldn't forget our anniversary....and his birthday falls on a Saturday in 2011 so it makes it even better!) so plenty of time to decide!
And there's also the subject of cakes! I love cake! :rotfl: There's only one cake DBF likes from the Disney powerpoint (yeah...we're nerds and have already gone through all of the cakes!) and that's the Roses and Drapes cake. I would totally post a pic of it but I'm at work right now (naughty naughty) and I don't have access to pics....poo! But yeah...it's a little more....*simple* than I thought he would like but, oh well! It's still pretty!
Sorry so long...and sorry so many parentheses! I really suck at expressing coherent thoughts online! :rotfl:

Oh geez, I shouldn't have said anything! :rotfl:
I don't really see how this thread is cliquey at all. We're all just talking about eventual wedding plans; I for one feel a little silly about creating a PJ when my wedding is so far off (not that I'm bashing girls that do; I just know I wouldn't keep up with it if I start it so far off!) and this is a nice thread to talk about future plans. I know I can't speak for everyone here but I do know that I would welcome any current or past bride's opinions or comments on any of the things we're discussing!
Again, I'm really not trying to fan the flames....just wanted to say my piece :).
ETA: I hope none of this sounds snarky! I just feel really bad that I'm starting the discussion on whether this thread is OT again!

Well, I don't see it as a clique. I venture to other threads in the wedding forum all the time and post ocassionally, other times I just enjoy looking at the pictures. It's just that I feel more comfortable posting here with others like myself because I don't want to interrupt in the threads for all the girls who are actually planning weddings for very soon.

Oh we definitely appreciate your views and opinions. Thats what makes a great discussion. I'm just not going to stop because the moderators think this topic is okay. I think everyone here has a lot to offer to people planning a wedding. But cant we do that outside of this thread?
I know you dont see it as cliquey because you are part of it. You need to look outside of the box and see it form others perspectives. Its a ritual with you girls. A handfull of you come here and post everyday. That is a clique. Last time I checked, that was not allowed here. But I definitely like what you girls offer, and I like the help that you give out. I'd just like to see it in a no cliquey way. i.e. not in one thread that is like a daily discussion.
We already had a webmaster/mod come in here and say this thread is ok. See:
Everyone, please take a deep breath.
About the "off-topic" comments: This forum is for the discussion of and planning of Disney weddings. This thread is discussing and dreaming about Disney weddings, and that is ABSOLUTELY on-topic and welcome here!
This is a place for past, future and potential Disney brides and others interested in Disney weddings to discuss, plan or reminisce about those events.
Please, please don't start the clique topic again. We welcome everyone in here. Planning a wedding or not planning a wedding, single or already married, anybody and everybody is welcome :grouphug: Yes, we do visit this thread daily, but this is like a PJ for us girls who aren't quite there yet. We're just sharing ideas with each other just like we would in a PJ.

Mandy - That chapel is beautiful and a pretty good 2nd choice. I can see some really gorgeous pictures being taken in that archway.
Maria - I showed my mom that cake powerpoint and she too loved the roses and drapes one. Actually, she loved them all. If it were up to her I'd probably end up with one of each cake  Oh, and I like the way your DBF thinks, I order from the kid's menu all the time. Disney has the best kid's mac and cheese ever :thumbsup2

Rebecca,
A webmaster already came in and approved this thread, as a someone else already showed you. This topic is already covered and dead. The reason we are supposively "ignoring" your points is that they've already been made and dealt with, and honestly, no one here wants added drama to something that has already been taken care of and given a green light.

I really don't get it:confused3 You girls have the ENTIRE wedding board...and if you pay attention closely, you will see that we do post on other threads. You are completely right in that there are areas we can't offer advice or answers because we aren't at that point yet.
We took ONE thread to discuss our future plans, and for some reason that is bothering you enough that you have to continue coming on to this thread and attacking us...which I believe is against the dis boards policy.
3. NO FIGHTING/SARCASM
I come to this board because everyone is so nice and helpful. They have welcomed us to every thread, even though we aren't officially planning anything yet, and we have done the same in return!
How childish is this?? No one here is doing anything wrong! And because you feel other people have been treated poorly, that gives you the right to talk to us like that? :sad2: It's too bad you are trying so hard to take this away from us and I hope if it ever does happen you feel good about yourself.
MainStMandy
09-25-2008, 11:08 AM
This has nothing to do with you. This has everything to do with the politics of this board. I'm not attacking you, I'm attacking the policies of this place. They can't say no to one person and yes to another, can they? Do you agree that it is a right way to govern this place? Let some people go off topic and dont let others? If you do, they might have an opening in board moderating you should look into. And you know what? I feel great! Thanks for asking hunny :goodvibes
Dawrobin, Id love to marry you! Do you think we should start a PJ? :cutie:
This thread is NOT off topic...we did not start a thread on the wedding board talking about something that is NOT wedding related. I guess I missed the rule that said I needed a ring on my finger to post here. There are women on this board who aren't getting married for YEARS yet, but because they have the ring, they are allowed to post:confused3 I agree the policy should be consistent but we obviously have different ideas of what is the topic of this board and what is not.

oh, and mainstmelody, we do have the entire wedding board,... you are right... know why? this is a DISNEY dedicated website. Where people come to get information about disney weddings and disney honeymoons. If they want to keep people on topic so bad, we really need to get ON topic and talk about disney weddings and disney honeymoons. again, not an attack on you, just the people in charge.
And here's the thing...we are talking about Disney Weddings! Do we know the specifics yet? Nope. Who cares (besides you of course). You can keep telling me all you want that this isn't personal and you aren't attacking us, but you are. And you are trying your hardest, in the most condesending tone possible, to get this thread closed. And the fact that you are doing this because you are mad about other threads that were closed because they are friends of yours isn't clickey?

The two of you can keep this up all you want, but as said multiple times, the Mods have agreed we are ON topic. I am sorry your personal opinion differs from that.
Now to get back to the topic at hand :goodvibes
What about invitations girls?? I keep thinking about this because if we end up with an Escape wedding I feel silly sending invites to our parents and brothers and that's all:confused3 But I can't NOT send them out, and will probably have to send out invites to an at home reception.

It is nowhere near as childish as being women and girls who perpetuate stereotypes that women are obsessed with getting married,
I'm not obsessed with getting married. I have quite a lot of other hobbies and I know these young women do as well. It's not fair to generalize everyone into one lump category and to have a perception in your head when you don't even know them at all. What's childish is that you'll come onto a forum, go into a thread, and bash random people that you will (most likely) never meet.
tricking men into proposing, want to get married after weeks of dating etc.
My DBF and I have been dating for 2 and a half years, and we've known each other for 5. That's a heck of a lot longer than a lot of couples, and even some planning their weddings right now! And LOL at your comment about "tricking men into proposing"; a) I haven't even seen the topic addressed in this thread and b) that's just pathetic. Who does that? I've already been proposed to, the only reason I don't run around saying I'm engaged is because my DBF proposed with a promise ring and HE (not I) feels ashamed at the prospect of me flashing my promise ring and telling people I'm engaged. I could care less; he wants to do the whole "Tiffany diamond engagement ring" schpell. HE calls me his fiancee; I call him my DBF.
Before you start assuming personal things about other people's relationships, you should probably read more of the stories on here; a lot of them are similar to mine and, if anything, most of the girls are at a point where they can OPENLY talk about marriage with their DBFs, it's not like they're planning a wedding behind their SO's backs.
MOST women I know are NOT like this, but society's opinion is that they are, because the craazy is more noticeable than the sane.
So yes- I find the existence of this thread incredibly offensive. All women should who hope to not be llumoed into the same category as you.
Some people find EVERYTHING offensive  . So what I am gathering is that you think we're all crazy? Well, I can only speak for myself here as I don't really know many of the girls here very well but I am definitely NOT obsessed with my wedding. It's always nice, however, to find a group of women at the same stage of their lives as you that can freely comment about ideas and situations that you may be facing at the particular moment. I don't see the big deal, I honestly don't. It just seems like a rejection based upon the fact that other girls were banned from the board because of the mods deeming their posts "off topic". I can honestly say that I also thought that was unjust and unfair and I completely disagreed with it. But why would you lump this thread into the same category? This is wedding-related; it's not like we're talking about buy a car or finding cheap Disney tickets. There's been some of threads that had NOTHING to do with planning weddings and that contain questions that were better suited for the Resort Board or the Restaurant Board or even the DVC board but no one has said anything. THAT's a double standard.
I really don't mean to pick on anyone but this had to be said. No hard feelings, just a firm exchange of opinion.

Cori I bet your daughter is going to be adorable in a flower girl dress! HAs she picked out what kind of cake she wants for her own wedding yet? Never too early to start planning ya know! Start 'em early! Forget about Barbies and dolls, now its WEDDINGS! *squeels*

Lindsay, you are going to look great in that dress! It's gorgeous. I hope you don't end up all bruised like Caryn did though. I can't believe she was in that much pain for so many hours.
My dress was from DB too, but it was very light. I love it so much!
I had a dream last week that I made my 150" veil into a canopy for the baby's room. I dyed it a very light pink and sewed crystals on to it then hung it over the baby's crib.
Cori - Your DD is going to have a blast. Is this her first time being in a wedding?

I am nearly done with the nursery, I'll post pics soon...I got some really pretty curtains that graduate from aqua to lavender with crystals in them...
They totally match Lelani!

If this was someone's planning journal then I would get it but its a thread that a few girls post, who aren't engaged yet, thinking about weddings and we feel that it is cliquey and OT since it does not contribute or help anyone planning a wedding.
If it was a planning journal I would not post and disrupt it.

1) Make sure that you and your fiancee's name is in the title along with your location and date.
but this isn't a planning journal.

Good Point Cori!
The rules were laid out for everyone to read. There is a sticky with all the new "Rules" on it. So if it really is someone's PJ...why isn't it labeled as such?

You can do what I did till I got engaged.. I posted comments to all the brides and brides to be. I have gotten lots of ideas thanks to them. I can tell you what I did not do. I did not start posting things about ideas for my wedding if I really did not have any... Telling people what I want on a wedding board when you are not engaged is really silly <----- my opinion
this is great when you are actually in the process of at least starting to plan..
