Okay, I probably haven't been following these threads as closely as I should!!
Would somebody be kind enough to tell me which savannah is best to request at AKV in early December, assuming the construction is still in full swing!!
Thank you

only stay with value or standard - so saw animals in most of the savannahs - but you had to go look for them.

I agree with the Arusha Savannah, Zebra Trail. Since AKL has opened this has been the preferred trail for viewing giraffes, zebras.

Do you request this at checkin or on your reservation prior to arrival? I'll be down at AKV for my first DVC visit in January.

I apologize for not knowing the Savannah name, however, if you go to All Ears Net and view the Resort Map, you'll see or perhaps someone here can confirm...

We recently returned from a stay in room 5457 and were fascinated for the duration of our trip by the 3 giraffes on that Savannah. There is a baby (we were told it was born 2/29 of this year), a mid-size (I forget that one's age) and a full-size giraffe. We have pictures of the 3 of them in one picture and it looks like stair steps. The baby would frolic around with birds & ducks...similar to a puppy or kitten would and it was absolutely adorable. We saw them from morning thru evening. We have night vision on our video camera and taped one of the larger ones sitting on the ground and sleeping right outside our balcony in the grass and the baby came up and woke it & rubbed necks with it. They were very entertaining. Now...I'm not sure if they move animals around, but I would sure ask for the Savannah the baby giraffe is in.

Yes we saw the same three in May and the little one was fascinating to watch. They are on the Uzima Savanna :)

I think anything BUT the sunset savannah would be good. We had arusha when we were there just over a week ago and enjoyed it a lot. If we had gotten sunset I would have been extremely upset about paying savannah view points for construction and VERY few animals. I am really concidering writing to DVC and lettign them know my opinion - that it is totally unexceptable that they are not charging "paying" guests fore a savannah view in a sunset savannah room but they are charging DVC the savannah view points.

You can request a room or area prior to arrival but it is not guaranteed outside of a specific points category.

If you're looking at a non-center savannah (sorry, I don't know the names), I would recommend the pool side. Not only is there no construction, they also make sure animals are visible there for guests without a savannah view. I even enjoyed some time in the hot tub with a giraffe chomping on food just behind me:) I've been on that savannah for all of my stays and haven't been disappointed.
