To quote a line from one of my favorite movies, "If you build it, he will come".
Hi sweetie!

good morning kathy... but can you imagine the life boat drill, and getting on and off the thing... it would be like an entire airport all going though the security scan at once

Who cares about the size. It has a bar that moves!! Don't feel like walking down that flight of stairs to get your drink? No worries, it will come up to you!

Both Oasis and sister ship Allure are expected to accommodate 5400 passengers each :scared1: . You're right Oscar, that is an awful lot of people to get on and off. Lord help ever having to evacuate. What scares me is the impact a ship this size will have on the islands it visits.
While it might be cool to see, I much prefer smaller ships. The Magic and Wonder are the perfect size cruise ships for me. Other then, I much prefer to charter my own sail boat in the US/British Virgin Islands and sail on my own schedule.

That is just mind boggling. You just can't imagine something so big. All those passengars?..the crew?...the staff it will need? How can something like that float. Amazing. Is there really a "need" for a ship that big? Seems like after the intial curiousity wears off, it'd be hard to fill all 16 decks of cabins.

That is truly a "titanic" ship. I can't even imagine how long it takes for all the passengers to disembark on the last day. To process 5400 people through customs and immigration.
Personally, I think the best sized ships are between 50,000 and 70,000 tons.

If this ship can have 5400 passengars, how many are there on a Disney cruise? Other ships? Like Liberty of the Seas that Kevin and John are on now?
I've never done a cruise and I'm just curious.

2000-3000 I think is about average for regular ships like Carnival, RC....not sure about the DW ship.
Over 5K getting on and off each day? Ugh...sounds like WORK to me. NO THANKS! This is why cruising just isn't my thing I guess...just seems to much like cattle to me...lines, lines and more lines- at least on the larger standard ships.

I have the full color brochure for the Oasis in front of me right now and I have to say, this is an amazing looking ship. A destination unto itself!! I would love to sail her someday. However, I can't imagine that it would be extremely expensive as RCL doesn't set itself up as a high end cruise line. I would gladly take an inside cabin for a ride on this ship!

Wow, that's amazing!
With the likes of cruise ships like this and Dubailand, vacations sure are getting even more high-end and potentially VERY expensive :scared1:

According to RCCL's website, Liberty holds 3,634 people double occupancy
The Magic and the Wonder both have a 2500 person capacity (877 passenger cabins). The new Disney ships don't list the passenger capacity (according to their press release http://www.dclnews.com/PressReleaseDetail.aspx?PressReleaseID=106562) but says they will have 1250 staterooms each.

There's a thread about the Oasis on the DCL Forum:

I'm post number 6 regarding the matter...
From what I understand, 5400 is the number for double occupancy. It is expected to carry around 6300 once 3rd and 4th guests are added into the equation.
The Magic and Wonder both sail with on average about 2600 people. With crew, the number is around 3500. (Taken from the "Fun Facts" sheet handed out on the WB Panama Canal Cruise)
