View Full Version : Holiday/Seasons Completed Page Swap - Progress Thread - **Mailed**
TPCShauna

UPDATE: Our ANGEL is aiming to have her pages to me by Oct. 31. My goal is swap them out that week and mail on Nov. 3.
This swap is for completed pages in themes of Holidays, Seasons and Celebrations. Completed pages have all elements affixed so that the swapper only has to place pictures and journaling to complete the layout.
You are limited to signing up for 2 groups total if I have never swapped with you before. Otherwise, you may sign up for one spot in each category type on your first round of sign-ups. Once everyone has a chance to sign up for their chosen spots, I will open the remaining spots.
Important Dates:

9/29 - Due Date
NOTE: I will ask you to check in every 2 weeks (by posting a check-in by date in the thread title). If you miss a check-in, I will PM you. If I haven't heard from you in a week, I will angel your spots. It is your responsibility to let me know beforehand if you will be gone for a check-in.
Prototypes: I am asking everyone to post a prototype of their design on August 18. This is to help keep everyone on track and show that progress has been made. I will post a separate thread for this purpose so that those who wish to be surprised can be.
Packing and Labeling Instructions: Sign the back of your completed pages with your name and DIS name. Be sure to use an acid free pen. Place ALL of your 12x12 completed layouts for a specific group in a 2 gallon Ziploc bag (available at grocery stores/Walmart with the other sizes.) If you are in multiple groups, each group should be in their own bag. Label the outside of each bag (by hand or with an adhesive label) with your name and DIS name.
Mailing Instructions: If you are in 4 or fewer groups, mail in a Flat Rate $9.80 Priority box. 12x12 pages will bow just a bit in the middle but do not get damaged. If you are in 5 or more groups, mail in a Large Flat Rate $12.95 box. Include CASH or CHECK for return postage AND your address in one of the bags. Please do not send metered or click-it/ship-it postage as some hostesses have had issues with these. On the outside of your box, please include your DIS name and Swap name in the bottom corner.
Contact Info: PM me with your name, address, email addy and phone number if you haven’t swapped with me before. I will PM my contact info to everyone after the swap closes. If you have problems and need to drop out or if an emergency happens (we all know things happen beyond our control sometimes), let me know ASAP so we can make arrangements for an angel or other help as needed.
A Final Note: This swap is a huge commitment of time and money for everyone involved as it takes a significant amount of both to create five 2-page layouts. Multiply that by 5 groups and you are making 50 complete pages. Having said that, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not sign up for more than you can handle. It is not fair to me or the other participants to expend the time and money to make something for someone who does not reciprocate. We all want everyone to enjoy swapping but we also want you to think about what you are getting into when you sign up.
Last but not least, HAVE FUN! I know we all stress about our work and that is OK. The important thing to remember is that you just need to make something you would be proud to have in your own albums and everyone will love it. If you get stumped or have a question, anyone on here would be happy to help; all you have to do is ask.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now we can talk swap stuff. Here’s the breakdown on sizes for the page elements:
~~~~Element List for 12x12 pages ~~~~~

Main Photo mats: Should be double matted and able to fit a 4”x 6” photo without cropping; smallest mat is typically 4¼”x 6¼” with other mats incrementally larger.
Additional Photo mats: Smallest size is 3"x3" for top mat with other mats incrementally larger; should be double matted
Journaling/Autograph box: Should be double matted and no smaller than 3”x 4”. Journaling can be hidden.
Large embellishments could be:
1 Large tag: Should be double matted PLUS fiber/ribbon and/or eyelet/brad in the hole AND at least 3”x 4”.
1 Mini File folder: Should be embellished but need not be double matted.
1 Library Pocket and Tag: Should be embellished but need not be double-matted
1 Shaker Box: Should not be smaller than 2½”x 2½”.
1 Paper Piecing: Should not be smaller than 2½”x 2½”.

Please, no hand lettering on any items. You may use computer fonts, rub-ons, stamps, die cut letters, etc. Embellished means using brads, eyelets, charms, ribbon, 3D stickers (matted stickers are ok, too), clip art, or embossing.
If you have questions about any of these elements, check out the Swap Glossary thread or Swap Photo Gallery thread at the top of the swaps board, post your question here or on the Progress thread or PM me. We are all happy to help!

I only added you to the Christmas and Birthday groups as all of your other choices have been taken. I would prefer to fill existing groups before adding a second group for each category. I can either give you one of the spots in the existing categories or can wait to fill you in as first choice for each of the next groups. Let me know what you prefer.
I didn't add general groups or a Halloween group as no one really expressed any interest in either of those. I'm not adverse to having them but would just need to know that there was an interest. :goodvibes

I didn't embellish a lot of mine, and most were not double matted. I think it just depends on how the design is laid out.

I'm an Irish girl who also celebrates Cinco de Mayo (probably because I'm from Texas) but I'm not in the group so have no say.
Frog talk is totally OK as long as there are no pictures of the scary little hopping harbingers of terror.
I've thought about it all day.

Woohoo! Yay for you for joining!!!!
All of my mats were double matted as were most everyone else's. Not everyone embellished all of their mats. Some did all, some did a few on a layout and some did none. I will admit that I had some that only had a small embellie or were inked. I just think it's really important for them to all be double-matted so they look "finished".

I hate to do this especially since I signed up for some groups that are now full. I added this on to my swap calendar and compared it with life and I need to withdraw from this one before I even start it because I would have a hard time gettign the prototypes down before the would be due. Between meetings for DS's worker and with DS school preapring for school and vacation before school starts along with my other swaps, I don't know when I would finish much less get the prototypes done in time.
Thanks for understanding.

1- Can I sign up in the second seasons group for Spring (That would put me in both groups)?
2- In the seasons group- do you want a topper that spells out the season or could I make a topper that is large enough for the season and enclose an entire alphabet to allow people to choose their title to match their pictures?
Thanks for getting me signed up while i was out of town.

I added you to the Thanksgiving spot. I don't necessarily think that the pages have to say Summer or Thanksgiving. I was planning to do my Halloween with an appropriate title like "Who are you" or "Boo". As long as we understand that the layout is for a particular theme, I think the title can vary. Like using "Some Like it Hot" for a summer layout would be cute AND everyone would get the gist.
Clear as mud? :goodvibes Glad I could help. :lmao:

The rule for sign-ups is that each person can only sign up for one group of each type until interest slows and then I will start to add to additional groups. VickiV and Pretty in Tink are new additions so I gave them the last two spots in D2 and G1.
I'm happy to shuffle the best I can to get everyone into two groups that wants them. I hope that no one minds a little shifting to make it all work. I'm going to wait until sign-ups close to make the changes so just be sure to let me know what y'all want in advance and I'll do my best.

Rebecca
1 - See the note above about adding to additional groups. There is still lots of room in that one so I don't anticipate a problem.
2 - As I told believen, I don't think that the topper has to spell out the name of the season as long as the layout evokes the feeling. I'm planning to do a floral layout for my Spring group and I'm tossing around a few ideas for titles but none of them really say Spring. Does that answer your question? I'm sure no one would mind if you DID want to include a full alphabet but then I think people might run into trouble if they suddenly need multiples of a certain letter.
Again, clear as mud, huh?

You will make a one set for each person in the group once sign-ups close- some people would like an extra group but aren't in them yet so you will probably make one for each of whatever the number in the group is in total- as sign-ups come to a close some of us that are in the swap will join into the groups that have open spoots so I would guess that you will end up needing to make a layout for every spot in the group you are looking at.

My Autumn is 1/2 done. Group A1, would ya'll mind if there was no title? I can squeeze one in if need be but the paper is obviously Autumn. I just need to go get more paper, they were out of the floral print.

Question please. If I sign up for a group that has only one person in it. Does that mean i'm only doing two sets? I hope that made sense.
All of the groups will fill after sign-ups officially close. So yes, at the moment there might only be one person in the group so you would make two but when I close sign-ups, I'll fill those other two spots with others who are on the waiting list.
Clear as mud? :goodvibes :lmao:
Let me know if you are interested. I'm closing sign-ups tonight and there are still a few spots open. We'd love to have you!
Thanks for answering, ma'am! How are things with you at the moment?

I'm fine with that. I guess I should add something that if the paper is obviously themed for the season/holiday, then I suppose a title isn't necessary. Does that sound OK?

I forgot to add in my previous post that I will be closing this down late tonight. I'm swamped at work with year end and I'm trying to study for my mid-term during my lunch hour. Plus, we are in full puppy prep mode at home at the moment.
I know it's OT but here's some cute pics of her at 8 weeks.

I am avoiding packing more of the house (that is why I am on the boards)- actually the living room/dining room, guest bedroom, office, and both bathrooms are packed. Larry's office is started (he had a major paper due tonight and has been working on it while I pack). My dresser and the closet shelves are done but I still need to do the flo9or and Larry's things in there. I haven't started the kitchen, laundry room, or garage.
Emotionally with everything I am doing okay although 1 song at church hit me with Papa's death a bit yesterday. They had a wonderful goodbye for us at church yesterday that was very touching.

Shauna, I am soo sorry to do this with it so close to sign up ending, but I really think I should pull out of this one. Michellepooh already asked for the last Halloween group spot but I think it might have been more filler than wanting the spot so I put you there. I know she would want everyone to have a chance to participate.
There is still a spot for Winter in the second Seasons group. Interested?
I could add another Fall/Winter Holidays group. That would give us another set of Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years'. Would that help? Or, I could add another Christmas group since that seems to be in big demand. I know Tinkerbean would be up for another group and believen might want in as well.

I know all of my responses were disjointed but I did the additions in the way it made most sense to me.
We currently have 1 spot open in A2: Seasons for Winter. Let me know if anyone is interested.
There are only 2 people signed up for the Birthday group - Kat and Tinker.
Now, it's completely up to the 2 of y'all to just do 2 sets and I'll swap those. It's no skin off my nose either way. Or, we can drop the group. Just let me know what you prefer. It's my thought that if you need the birthday pages, 2 sets are better than none.
Once we get these last few things ironed out, I'll post final groups and updates.
Now I have to stop procrastinating by DISing and go study for my midterm. :(

Sorry I've been MIA. I twisted my bad knee really badly on Friday. I was trying to avoid stepping on the puppy and managed to mess myself up pretty badly. 'K y'all! Everything is updated in the second post on the thread. This will be the progress thread but I will post another for the prototypes so everyone can be surprised if they would like.
Now I just have a few things before being done with this update:
1) I know this goes without saying but please, please, please pay attention to the guidelines for this swap. We all put a lot of time, money, materials and effort into these pages and it is supremely disappointing to get back less than equal work. I'm not talking about things being cookie cutter because none of us want that. I'm just talking about putting in the same effort you are receiving. Almost all of us were in the Disney CP Swap that is just finishing up and it wasn't an issue in that one and I don't think it will be here either. I just wanted to make sure it is said somewhere.
2) I'm not asking y'all to post a prototype of your work so that I or anyone else can critique it. Rather, it is to show good faith to everyone involved that progress has been made on your items. You are more than welcome to post and ask for feedback but NONE will be given unless you solicit it (other than remarks on cuteness, that is ;).) I just don't want anyone to think that this is a forum for us to remark or critique one another's work because it's not. 'Nuff said.
3) The due date is firm. I need to swap these pages out and get this stuff clear since I will be swapping the WDW Event Swap two weeks later. I don't want these swaps dragging on into my preparations for my December WDW trip. That being said, if at any point you don't think you'll be able to finish your stuff, please let me know ASAP. We WILL pick up the slack if need be.
Now that I've typed a book, I would like to remind everyone that yesterday was our first check-in. I know I missed it and the groups weren't finalized so it's not a hard one. Just please post to let me know that you have read this message and let me know if you have questions. I'm looking forward to seeing the work from this group. I think it is going to be amazing!

Also, as an FYI - I'm planning to shop my stash on this one so all of my layouts won't match in terms of paper but will match the overall design I post as my prototype. Everyone is welcome to do this. It worked well for many in the Disney CP swap and I think it is a great idea.

Now for the questions:
1. Topper/Title: It isn't a topper and it is not individual matted letters. It is double matted, stickled, and has the added decorated tree. Is it ok?
2. Photomats: right hand page -- those are 4 1/4 mats, for a 4 inch photo. It is not exactly double matted. I have the 2 layers behind it -- does that count? I did try it the other way. Instead of two layers on the diamond, I tried 2 layers on the square. I also tried 2 layers on both. This way turned out the best in my opinion. If it is not acceptable, I will take out the diamonds altogether and just do 4 doubled matted squares.
3. Journal space -- 3 small mats were required. I would like to know if my 4the box can be the journal spot.
FYI -- teh large element is the paper pieing it was cut at 4 inches, is pop-dotted and stickled.
I am asking for a critique here, so no offense will be taken if you answer. Is anything else missing? Thanks for your help.

Is the dotted paper loose in the middle so a pic can be slipped under?

Thanks. Actually, not too long since a lot of it is just paper cutting. Xyron on the title was the worst part. GLad I have 5 and not 13 of them! I think I came up with it on my own...I know I did a similar page in my 2005 Disney album. Who knows? Maybe I got that one from somewhere and have since forgotten!

Susan - that is DARLING! Don't you dare change a thing on it because it is perfect as is.
The title is fine because it is double-matted and embellished. The photo mats look great with the diamonds and that totally counts for double-matted anyway as there are two layers. The 4 squares leave plenty of room for journaling if someone needs it AND allows all 4 to be used for pics if no journaling is needed/wanted. All in all, the layout is beautiful and you did a really great job!
I'm going to post the prototype thread now so that everyone can post as they are ready. You can find it here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=26323083#post26323083

I just posted the check-in for today - 7/21. Please post progress when you have a moment.
123SA and Pretty in Tink have already been checked off since they posted on the prototype thread.

In other news, I've been MIA because DH and I both have a stomach flu. His is worse than mine and I had to take him to the hospital on Saturday afternoon after he collapsed. They gave him a couple of bags of IV fluid as he was extremely dehydrated. He is doing a bit better but we are both still struggling. This is an especially difficult time because I am still having serious problems with my knee and can barely walk to take care of both of us.
My progress is basically that I am still sketching. I have a design for my Spring page that I really like and have selected paper. I'm still working on designs for my Halloween and Christmas pages.
I probably won't be checking in tons but will update the check-ins when I have a second. Please do still check-in and I will get you updated when I have a few minutes.

Wow, I really like those suggestions, AWM and MP. Do you think those would be OK to use with non-trick or treat pictures? Like we go to a Halloween party every year and I'm trying to figure out how to make my pages work for that theme within the candy design.
Maybe I should just scratch the candy idea completely and go back to the drawing board. :confused3

We don't trick or treat. We live in the middle of nowhere and I won't drive my kids someplace we don't live just mooch candy off complete strangers. Friend and family, yes - strangers, no.
The kids get plenty of candy at the school parties. So a candy page with any of those titles would work.

Holy moly, I am having the hardest time with the sketch for my Christmas group! I've looked at tons of Becky Higgins sketches and haunted PageMaps.com and still didn't find anything I loved.
I'm trying to keep the theme fairly generic so that it is widely versatile. I think I've settled on " 'Tis the Season " for my theme with some gingerbread man decorations. Does that sound OK? Or do you think a gingerbread house would be better? Stretch the Imagination has a cute one that I think would be darling but I didn't know if that would be generic enough for everyone. Thoughts?

I think a gingerbread theme sounds great! I'm doing one too ;) I have Stretch the Imagination too, but I don't think I will be using the gingerbread man (making me think run, run as fast as you can-you can't catch me I'm the gingerbread man :rotfl2: ) Mine doesn't have a house on it. We have a gingerbread house making party every year. I also wanted mine to be useful for someone that may not like sweets too much. I generally get out to the beach occasionally, we grill out, take road trips, sit in the air conditioning, anything sunshine or rainshine would work for me- we watch the rain a lot here in the summer too. It's amazing to me how hard it is for me to come up with ideas that do not include Disney.

I have my pages ready and photographed but not uploaded. I won't be on much in the next few days as I smacked the crap out of my head on my scrap table and I have a low-grade concussion. I'll upload my pics and get them posted tomorrow. I am mostly happy with how they turned out.
Please try to get your pics posted ASAP if you haven't done so. Thanks to everyone who has posted.

Hope you are okay.. please take it easy!!! those are some wicked blows to the head... why is it the scrapbooking tables attack like that? I did that a while back and I was ready to throw the table out for fighting w/ me!!

Hope you feel better soon, Shauna :)
My Christmas lay-outs are completely finished, and I'm about 3/4's done with my Snow lay-out. The snow one is very time consuming, but will be done on time. Oh, and I bought bags last night to mail them off, so making progress

I'm at the ILs house until Sunday night. I'll be working on these (and my trip report) when the boys go back to school on Tuesday. Hope to be done with prototypes by Friday (may all of the pages if I'm wowed by own work. ;) )

Why have you been stressing? Those are CUTE!!! I LOVE the Christmas page and have that exact same paper - that I won't use because I love it. Really great job!
ETA: I am going to copy these over to the prototype thread so people can be surprised if they want to. Can you go back and delete the pics here? TIA!

Checking in. I have about 4 different colors of navy blue in my house, and the only 1 I don't have is the one I used in the layout for the topper. So the prototype actually has 2 different colors in it. I found my receipt tonight for where I bought it though, so I hope to get more tomorrow, or I will be changing which navy blue I am using.

Michellepooh - Your pages have arrived.
Tinkerbean - I have you listed for Fourth of July and Autumn in addition to the pages you've already posted. Is that right?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I missed posting for Monday's check in. Please drop by and let us know your status.
There are still a few prototypes that haven't been posted. I know we've had a lot of travel and vacations going on so it's no problem. Just please post them when you have a chance so we can all drool. :goodvibes
ETA my status. I've set these aside for a few days since I've completed the prototypes so that I could finish Michelle's baby book and the Pet Swap. I'm going to finish my rolodex cards and then finish putting these together. The good news is that all of the embellishments for all of the groups are cut. I just need to embellish them, cut the mats and assemble everything.
I have my Christmas and Spring pages completed and ready to go. I have the elements made for my winter pages (except the borders) and plan on putting them together by the end of tomorrow at the latest. Do you mind if I hold onto these for a few weeks and try to finish up the Events swap and mail them both together?
Not sure if I checked in since being home. I'm trying to flock a snowman right now. I have five different ones to pick from and am trying to get just the right one for these pages.
Halloween I know what I'm doing, I just need to do it.
I have no problem with you sending them together. I have all of my bins set up for the different swaps so I can store them together as they come in. Will you be done with the Event Swap pieces by the due date for this one? You are speedy!
AWM - Oooooooo, flocked snowmen! Can I trade something for one? Not a page - just a flocked snowman I can use as an element? LMK!
Thank you! I really appreciate it. You would think, in all of the huge scrapbooking stores we have here, that I would be able to find flock but alas, that is not the case. I want to actually see something with it before I go ordering online AND I love snowmen so this is perfect. Plus, it's easier for you! Great idea!
I have posted my prototypes for Winter.
I have all the pieces cut & inked. I just need to adhere and paste to the pages. The snowmen are flocked but need their shadows & noses. :)
Once I finish those, I'll get on to the Halloween ones.
I will work on updating tomorrow. We have a HUGE project going at work at the moment and I'll be working late this evening. There went my Cowboys game tonight. :sad1:
Susie - I just wanted to let you know not to send postage for this swap. Since you overpaid on the Disney Completed Pages swap, I put aside part of that cash to pay for this one. You are covered. :thumbsup2
It it to extract 2 teeth to avoid overcrowding preparing for braces one day annnnnnnd he has are you ready for it FIVE cavities. He is so done with brushing his teeth himself and drinking sodas it isn't even funny. I was letting him drink lots of soda because he doesn't eat because of his meds and my logic it was getting his caloric intake up. Well, my logic is flushed away.
He also has private OT and speech consults this week and lets not forget his psych on Thursday and his birthday party is Sunday.
Where is this money tree that they think I have?
D2 Christmas group, I hope you don't mind my title is peace cause that's the only word that would cut on the cricut that didn't tear. But it looks really really cute!!!
