Hey everybody. Not sure if this is the place to post this, but being teens, I figured some of you might be in the same boat as me. I have my interview on Thurs. for the college intern program. I must say I am extreamly stressed out. I want this so bad. I was wondering if anyone out there was in the same boat or if someone out there needs or wants to provide moral support. Any last min interview tips from alumni or anyone else is appreciated. Thanks everyone.

I hope the interview went well... I am not on the same boat right now but i will be when i get into the college program! I cant wait i want to be there sooo bad its not even funny. I have been tell my parents that i want to work there ever since i met my friend brian and then when i did meet college guys that worked there i wanted to do it even more. They were really nice and i always wanted to be like them.. I know that sounds corney but it is true. I "hang" out with them when they are working so that they have someone to talk to and someone that they know there. So i hope that you get the job! Could you please tell me if you got it and where you are working if you do get it!! thanks so much and I hope you did well!

I just had my interview at Miami University (OH) for the Fall 2002 program. I have never been to Disney  so this may be my key to getting down there. I hope we both get the GREATEST news EVER in a few weeks--anyone know how long it takes to hear? I WANT TO KNOW NOW!!!:D

Can you tell me what the WDW College Program is? I'm asking for my daughter. Thanks for any information.

The College Program is where you work at WDW or as a part of the Walt Disney Company durning College for creits. You have to complete at least 1 semster of school with good grades and you can apply to be in the College Program! You can work at any part of the parks from cleaning the parks to interacting with guests to feeding the fish at the Living Seas! This program also teaches you how to live on just about no money and how to get up and go to work! that is what the college program is!

I am wondering if I am at a disadvantage versus other applicants because I have never been to Disney World? Any thoughts?

I wouldnt think so. One of my friends got in with only going as a small child! but i will ask other CMs when i am down there to see how they got there like if they had ever gone to wdw before!

my brother had done the wdw college program twice and now is a college recrutier for the program. the first time he got in it took about 4 weeks for him to get anything back. it is not a disadvantage to have not been to wdw before. my brother said that many of the people had never been there before. i hope that all of you get in. i can't wait until i am old enough to do the program.

You are are giving me a much calmer mind about all of this craziness! Some other random thoughts: They said they employ 55,000 CMs; I wonder how many of them are in the college program? And do they run college programs on the cruise lines? Or how else could you get involved working on a ship? I am thinking if I get this job, I might want to try that in the future! Also, are any potential WDWCPers worried about falling behind at college? I don't want to mess up my Japanese minor, which requires a specific sequence of classes!

tell disney that you are in schooling and tell them what times that you have to go to classes and they should help you out. I know someone that is going to school right now and is working at disney so it can be done! they are really big on have ppl get their educations!

Wow am I so happy for you! I can feel your excitement and enthusiasm through your post. WDW will not be sorry they chose you! And how about you answered every question I had! Great! I am up to day 8; hope it comes as soon as yours did! At first I was most likely not going to do it even if I got in, but in the last week I have SO warmed to the idea that I am already making all kinds of plans! I want to know and I want to GO!! Thanks for the sweet post, flower4pwr! People like you make me want to do this experience! And if I don't get in, I already emailed my aunt begging her to take me to WDW this summer! And if I do get in, we can still go! It will get me acquainted to the parks!!:jester:

I'm just under my mom's screen name, but I have a question. I'm only a freshman in hs but I'm wondering about this WDW college program. In order to be elligible all you have to do is apply for a college in the vicinity of the parks, then apply for the program? I figure college is only a few years off and I might as well have a fun job while getting an education. So, can anyone give me the details on this program and any good colleges in the area as well? Thanks a bunch!!! :Pinkbounc :earsgirl:

Nope, you go to ANY college that you want, and twice a year Disney comes recruiting to take you down during the fall or spring. You would take college classes and also work full time at the resort! Yay--funfunfun!!!

I made it! I got my envelope today! I got picked to be a quick service restaurant hostess in Fall 2002! Now I need to decide if I am going to do this! The ONLY thing holding me back is whether I'd fall behind in either my business classes (I'm a marketing major, will be a sophomore) and especially my Japanese minor. I am going to inquire with my professors about getting credit, online classes, and independent study!! Gotta make my decision this week! I need support/advice, guys! :D

Abby,

Congrats on making it. I'm so proud of you. Can you please answer a few questions I have about the College Program.

1. When you attend the College Program what kind of credit do you recieve? U said that you would fall behind, don't you still get credit?

2. When do you think the best time to go is? Freshman, Sophmore, Junoir, or Senoir? I figure since you don't really get into your major until your Junior year, Freshman or Sophmore would probably be the best.

Anything else you could tell me would be greatly appreciated. I'm a senior in High School this year, and would love to join the Disney College program next year or in 2 years. Thanx for your help

Ok, wait a second- I'm confused. I got that you go to any college that you want. The Disney comes and you can apply for it. But then how to do take your classes? Oh, I'm very confused!!

Guys, I am gonna investigate all of this this week--gotta talk to the financial aid office and my advisors and try to figure out how to get meaningful credit out of this semester. And I was told by other alumni that after your freshman or sophomore years is best! :jester:

I don't know what to do--it looks like over the next four years, I could either do the Disney thing or study abroad for a semester in London and Russia--not both! Given the choice, what would you do? And is it possible to just work down at Disney for the summer season, not as part of the college program? Where could I find out about this? Thanks!!

bubblemutant45
05-01-2002, 01:57 AM
ouch! what a hard decision to make!
when we were in WDW in the summer the guy who drove this boat we went on came down to orlando with his wife just for the summer, so i think you might be able to work there just for the summer. there was also this other girl who was working who had worked there on the college program and she decided to come back for the summer. do a search on the internet for jobs in disney and there will probably be a phone number there you could call for info.
hope this helps you out a bit!:)

Ugh, that is a toughie. To be honest I'd probably go with the semsester abroad because if Disney accepted you once they could always accept you again. But it is a really tough one!

AbbyO14

Thanks to you both! That is what I am leaning toward doing. The business school at my college (Miami of Ohio) would send me to London for 7 weeks and then to Russia for 2. I would DEFINITELY work at Disney during the summer if they chose me! I didn't see anything on disney.com about employment, so I would search online. This may sound dumb, but I am a Japanese minor, and I know a lot of international students come here to work in Orlando--any idea if I could possibly see about working at the Disneyland in Tokyo? Would this be something to email them about?
Thanks again for the advice--I know it is tough, especially since Disney is so magical, but I am not giving up hope of working down there and having a great time! Also another question--does anybody know if Disney would provide or find you housing if you were working there but not part of the college program? Because I would need a place to stay! Also, I am hoping that maybe in the next year or two Disney would do the college program for first year participants, because I heard that that is what they did up until a year or two ago. That would be HEAVEN--I would be down there in a heartbeat!!

hey abby!
here's a web site you can check out that has (i think) most of the info on jobs in disney:
http://disney.go.com/disneycareers/faq.html

these are the numbers they give to call for info on part time jobs:
(818) 558-2222† in Burbank or (407) 828-1000† in Orlando.

good luck!
i really do think the best would be to go for the time overseas (it sounds great!) and then work for disney some other time, that way you get to do both!

no problem! im glad i could help you out!:D :) :p
hmmm....thats a good question. i think you should call up one of those numbers and ask them when you should apply for a job next summer. they know better than anyone! im sure everything will work out great! im plannin on workin in DW in about 3 years.....i was thinkin of workin there next year, but (as i said earlier on this thread) it wont work out. so ill also have to call them ( a while after you, though......:p ).
have a great weekend!:Pinkbounc
