oh man, is there a way we could request a view of a particular Savannah? I see the pics of the giraffes and zebras up close...and my girls would absolutely LOVE this!! I figure if we are forced to spend our Christmas week in a hotel room with my dad...that could be their reward. :)

They all have giraffes. If you want zebras you'll want a view of the Arusha savannah.

OK we are booked into a 2 bdrm standard view. It was supposed to just be the 5 of us for a change. We are celbrating DD's sweet 16, My DS's college graduation and My 50th b-day. My husband even knowing I wanted it to be just the 5 of us went ahead and invited his parents. They are both late 70's. FIL will need a scooter. What would the best room location be for them.

Beautiful! I've only stayed at AKL for one night several years ago, but that savannah view just brought it all back! I remember waking up, walking out and being struck by the quiet of the morning. There were a few other people out but everyone seemed a little awestruck by the animals. There was such a quiet, magical, and expectant feel in the air. This picture made me wish I had booked a savannah view room, but I thik I've tied up enough money in this trip aleady :goodvibes. 9 more days now!!!

Yea, we did ... were were almost at the end of the building, so we could walk out of our room, make a quick right, and exit into the pool area ... and 30 seconds later we were in Mara or Boma!!

On our 2nd stay at AKL, we had a third floor Pool View room - and I think that had a nicer view and was more convenient to the buses and the lobby ...

I think any Pool View room would be in a convenient location and a good choice ...

I can't wait! We are staying there March 14th-18th with a pool view. I wanted a Savannah View but they only had rooms with bunk beds available and I don't trust my 1 year old and bunk beds. :rotfl:

It was absolutely awesome! I don't think I need to go to Africa for a safari--this was accomplished by staying at AKL. Some of my highlights:
-the staff was first rate. Many of them are from African nations, and spent times working as safari guides and are very knowledgable about the animals,
etc.

-BOMA- a great restaurant!

- Rooms- if you have a savannah view, you will love it. We would come back after a long day at the park, and before hitting the pool, we would sit outside and watch the animals coming in for shade. It was breathtaking.

-Pool- great. Kids loved the water slide, huge pool. We swam at midnight one night and it was heaven.

Thanks! I was a little disappointed about our "pool view", but my dh was happy. He was upset I'd booked pool view thinking there'd be too much noise. It turned out to be perfect though, and it was a decent view as long as you didn't look to the right. :thumbsup2

We had a pool view when we stayed there as well, and we loved it! It felt very tropical to us, and we loved checking out how crowded the pool was before deciding whether or not to go down. :thumbsup2

My favorite room! It's to the left rear of the main lobby, past the reception desks. Walk in, go all the way to the stairs that go down to the outside, turn 90 degrees left. There's a little DVC kiosk/desk in front of it.

It's a great chill out/reading room, has a balcony overlooking the side wildlife area, and at certain parts of the day is used for lectures/classes/talks, etc.

Thanks for the standard Kidani view. Was nervous not booking Jambo as that seemed to be more of a pool vs. parking lot view. Glad to see the parking lot view is quite nice too!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

What you see on my picture is only the short term parking for check-in. The regular parking ist mostly underneath the hotel as well as some oversize parking in front of the buildings. But from the second floor upwards, you would have to look straight down to see it, otherwise its more of an open view as you can see it in my picture.

Closer to Jambo House, there is also a CM parking lot, which is about 4 rows or so deep, if you are farther away from the lobby in that direction, you might see some of it but it is still not as big as the main parking for Jambo House.

Just come across this thread. Great pics everyone.We stayed there for our first time last year only ever dreamt of staying there till I discovered renting points. We are now staying another 5 nights in november in Kidani tagged on to the end of our cruise and OKW.
We had a savannah view last time in a studio and it was lovely.Giraffes and zebras every morning. This time we are having a one bedroom and as we are not planning on being in the room much we booked just a standard room. Glad to see the car park view is ok.Just asked for a room near the lobby on high floor as mom disabled.

Was on a 4-day trip at Disney last week, and part of my trip always includes dinner at Jiko on one of the nights, usually after Animal Kingdom. I was traveling light, as it was a friend's trip more than mine - so no tripod...but was enjoying cranking up the ISO for some handheld night shots around the resort...

Looking over the savannah from the main floor lookout patio...this was way past sunset, and basically too dark to see anything with the naked eye - the orange sunset glow is actually residual light from Animal Kingdom...I had to crank up to ISO6400 to get this one handheld:

I can't believe that tomorrow it is 3 months to the day that DD and I leave for the happiest place on earth. :banana::yay::cheer2: It will definitely be a welcome relief from the real world, even if only for a couple of weeks.

That was one crazy Wildebeest, he ran around like a maniac it was quite entertaining.

I know they are not the most attractive animal but I found it odd being a herd species he was alone, I even asked why he was while attending the Africa Trek Safari and the lady seemed clueless as to why there was only one.

Grazing herd animals of different species will often hang out together in the wild, so why not? :)

I wouldn't complain about any animal view there, although I think it would be incredible if they had a predator view. It would be amazing to see a pride of lions just laying around!

As for what I think is the gift shop, how does one protect the Giraffe figurines when traveling home? Do they come with a cylindrical shipping / travel case of some sort?

Thank you! I just used a p&s Canon powershot A495 I really liked it for day light pictures but I had a lot of trouble getting the indoor/night pictures

I don't know how they wrap the giraffe figurines. I know when I've bought coffee cups before they really wrapped them good with a lot of paper and tape.

Olympia, you are going to be thrilled with AKL! There is only one pool, but it is huge, with a zero entry side and a slide. Also a kiddie pool, and two very nicely secluded hot tubs. The pool view views also make you close to the lobby area. Be sure to have a Zebra Dome - best dessert at WDW. You can get them at Boma (buffet restaurant) or even in the cases at Mara (food court). We are so excited for our first trip to this resort in July!!! Staying in one bedroom villa at Jambo with Savanna View!!!!!!!!! Hope we have time to get to the parks. Not sure we'll be able to leave our room...
