I made my reservation yesterday for December. I'm so excited. :cool1:Does anyone have any pics of the 1bdrm suites? Does anyone know what their location is in regards to the concierge lounge?
Thanks.

Boy, Disney does not make it easy to decide which resort to stay at! Just when I think I found "the one" I come to this thread and now I'm in love with AKL!
eeyorenr - you notice every detail! I love the pics!:worship:
I asked my family yesterday "if money was no object which resort would you stay at?" More than half said AKL! Looks like we may have to make that happen:thumbsup2
Does anyone else find themselves looking for hidden mickey's on the REAL giraffes?!:lmao:

Love all the photos...I can't wait for our return trip in December! :santa: Last time we stayed Pool View on Zebra Trail (Room 4428) and we were so happy. We really loved Zebra Trail b/c as we walked down the hall to our room, we had animals to view off one side and the pool off the other. Our balcony view, however, was a bit dull. It overlooked a tiny kiddy pool (a big puddle really) with the main pool kinda off in the distance at an angle. Any suggestions or photos (with room #'s) of a better pool view? We would like to stay on Zebra Trail, if possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :thumbsup2

Sorry it took me so long to post, but here are some photos from our January 2009 trip. Our first night we had a room only reservation because we got in late and we were to have a pool view room, but we were upgraded to a One Bedroom Villa, which was amazing. Then we stayed Savannah View on the Zebra Trail for the other 6 nights. We loved it! I hope you enjoy!

Does anyone have any pics of what to expect out the window of a standard view?
Well, let me put it this way- when we booked a standard room at AKL in 2005 for our honeymoon (and our TA told us there was no way we would get a view of the parking lot)- guess what, our view was of the parking lot. And btw- the balconies are much smaller on those rooms as well. I know this because I was so agitated with things, that I upgraded to a savannah room view instead.

For those of you that have stayed in standard views rooms at AKL. Where are these rooms in relationship to the lobby, pool, restaurants etc.
Thanks
Ours was in the main lobby on the 3rd floor I believe. Walk out the front door and we had a dead center view of the massive lobby. We were on the same level as the big bridge as well so my boys loved to open the front door and run around the floor, over the bridge, whenever they could. :rotfl:

For the extra $10-or-so a night, it's worth it to get a Pool View room ... and eliminate the possibility for an "asphalt view" ... :rotfl:
Here's a picture out the window of a first floor Pool View room ...

Not the OP, but I want to say that the flamingo feeding was about 9:30 each morning. It's listed on the activities sheet that you receive at check-in -- we always missed it because we were already at the parks.

We would have to watch our budget more for sure. But the warm decor and detailed theming really speaks to me plus my family loves animals. It just looks amazing! We are the touring type that considers the hotel as important as the parks, and even more important than expensive meals. I want a nice place to come home to each night. Plus, we like to have an off day in the middle of the week kick back and enjoy it.

AKL feels like a destination in itself! We stayed twice in a pool view room, but there are many places where you can watch the animals from. I love that it is a bit removed from everything else in WDW, unlike most of the other Deluxe Resorts, you don't see another resort from there. I found that very relaxing. There also are a lot of activities offered. Check out the two AKL threads on the resort boards:

DVC is Disney Vacation Club, Disney's "timeshare". The Deluxe Villa Resorts are all DVC properties and while you can book them through Disney pacing cash, it is also possible to rent point from a DVC owner and this is substantially cheaper. I don't think it is to late for you since you are planning for November 2010, so I think the PP might be referring to his own trip. For renting points check out the DVC boards and especially this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1709083

Definately not TOO late. DVC members can book 11 months out at their HOME RESORT and 7 months at the others. You are no way even close to being TOO late if you choose to go this route. You are actually in the perfect timeframe window.:thumbsup2 We have rented to OP on a few occasions when we had extra points and they stayed at WL for a fraction of what it would have cost them otherwise during the Holiday season. Don't give up hope and do your homework!

Sorry for the late reply...the 40% off was for Disney Visa Rewards Members. There were a ton of dates. I got another offer in the mail...not sure why...that spans way into 2010 for a range of 30 - 40% off certain resorts. I did some research and it seems those offers are code specific to the person's name. So it can't be transfered. :sad2:

I didn't think I'd like this resort and truthfully didn't when we got there. Our keys didn't work and I had to walk all the way back to get it fixed. I thought I made a HUGE mistake. It was just an overnight so I figured I could live with it. When we were ready to checkout I found the place had grown on me. DH and I had a blast just wandering around looking at everything and taking pics. It was like being two little kids wandering around without parents. We're going back this week Dec 3-5 for our anniversary on Friday and going to try Boma for the first time. Of course, we're going to eat at Mara as well b/c the food there is excellent.

These are some from our last trip in April 2009. I have lots more but they're on another computer so I can't access them right now. This is my favorite Disney resort but sadly we won't stay here again anytime soon. :sad1: Not enough room for my big family. But we have nice memories from that trip. My Ds 7 had always wanted to stay there and we splurged and surprised him for a birthday trip. This was his face when he found out where we were staying :)

I've been to Disney so many times but mostly stayed at the Fort because our family lives to camp and we love the water. It's fun to catch the boat to MK from there. This year my DGD will be weeks from her 6th birthday so I'm splurging. We won't be as free from now on to go when we just have the urge living so farcapart and so far away ( they live in NJ) this will be a dream Disney Vacation... Then most likely I'll be planning vacations north easier for them to get away to.... I love this thread!! I've changed my ressie to the queen bed and bunkbeds since seeing the pictures . Thanks!!! I can't wait to go back!!! The Fort is great but we RV often so this will be a magical change!!:woohoo:

If standard view is what you can book, I say book it. AKL is really amazing, and how much time are you planning to spend in your room? We love the savanna view, but I'd be willing to stay in any room at AKL just to get to stay there.:cloud9:
You'll get the same pool, theming, and activities. And the savanna overlooks are lovely -- shady and with these big rocking chairs that you can sit in and relax. Plus, there are lots of little overlooks down the hallways, so you wont "miss" your chance to see all the animal areas if you want to.
Hope this helps.:goodvibes

not sure when you're going but if you want to save money you should rent points from dvc member at $10 point. i've linked the akl points chart. in peak seasons a savannah view will run $170/night on weekdays, and there's no tax! even less at other times of the year. anyways, think about it, it's the only way we go know, unless disney is offering free dining.

thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately my dh is not a trusting soul and he won't do it. I would do it in a heartbeat! We do have the pin code for 40% off, so our room is 180.00/nt. I know in my heart we will love it, no matter what the view, but I also know that if I get stuck looking at a dumpster I will go down and ask for something better. That is just me. I will squeak when necessary! :cutie: I am also hoping that since we will be among the first to arrive at our new digs (transferring from the WL) there may be a better chance of us scoring a nicer std room. Am I on track here or drinking the disney kool-aid? :lmao:
Also, since I booked thru my t.a. I had her add north end of resort, higher floor. I am wondering if this will even be possible now though since looking at the map of the resort seems the north end is all savannah view.
Am I right in seeing that the only std rooms are in the ostrich and giraffe trails overlooking the pkg lot? Seems everywhere else will have a savannah or pool?
Thanks for the replies! I am so excited to go it's silly! Probably way more than my kids!!:cutie:

Just curious - I've looked at the points charts, but I'm wondering what other charges are added to the total. I believe a Magical Express Fee or something like that is added - is there anything else? And is it a flate one time rate, or is it dependent on how long your stay is? Thanks.
Also, what's the difference between AKL and Villas? We've got the PIN, so the rates would be almost the same. Just more of a kitchenette area?

I will start this post by saying that this does not always happen, but we were also worried about the standard view when we stayed in 2007, we were pleasantly surprised to receive a free savannah view upgrade. DH asked for a different room b/c it was literally the fatherest room in the resort and i was pregnant at the time and they swithed us the next day to another savannah room right above the lobby which was amazing.

There are no additional charges. Points bookings cover everything, including Magical Express. If you wish to purchase park tickets or the dining plan, you need to pay for those separately, but, you always do.
The main differences between an AKL room and an AKV studio are the kitchenette area in the studio and the fact that the studio has 1 queen bed and 1 pull out sofa, whereas the AKL room has two beds.
(I will add however, that the suggested $10/pt is quite low...there have been people quoting that price for about 10 years which means that there has been no space for price increases for members. You will find that the more experienced renters rent for $12-15/pt.)

A Pool View room only costs about $10 more per night (even less additional with the code!) ... nice views, with no chance of overlooking the parking lot ... plus you're closer to the lobby, restaurants, Pool!, etc ...

Don't remember specific room numbers - but either trail is nice ...
We've stayed on the 3rd and 1st floors, and each has their plusses:
1st Floor - easy access to restaurants, pool, game room, Uzima Savannah
3rd Floor - easy access to lobby, bus stop, gift shop ... somewhat better views (unless blicked by trees...)

I have just looked through this thread in preparation of our "secret" stay in October. AKL/AKV looks amazing! :cloud9:
DH & DD9 think we're staying at SSR, but we'll be splitting our stay between there and AKV Jambo - but ssshhh - don't tell them - it's a surprise. ;)

That was our first and only time at AKL, so regarding the pool, I had nothing to compare it to. Was it a safety issue? Is that why they changed the pool color?

I also miss the old pool. Pictures of the new one always look like "commercial swimming complex" instead of "themed watering hole".
What I heard, was they changed it because they were tired of people complaining that it was "dirty" instead of understanding that it had been intentionally painted brown.

I've skimmed through this thread and have found a few, but was wondering if anyone has any real nice pool view pics they could post (repost). We're thinking of booking pool view next year and wondering if there's a specific floor/area/trail to request for a good, unobstructed view, or is it luck of the draw? Does anyone have any pics of a room that had a view of the flamingo pool? TIA if you can help!:flower3:
