Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Weird run for me today.

I did 4 miles. The first 2 were at R4/W2. I went out too fast for the first mile (12:05) which is waaay too fast for me in this weather. I slowed the second mile to 12:38, but kinda crashed on mile 3 and walked it. I decided to run the last mile with no intervals and did it in 11:19!!! That was pretty cool...the gross 83% humidity was not. I really like not having any major training going on this summer. It's nice to be able to do what I want and not feel pressured to maintain a current distance and pace.

What are y'all up to this summer?

Good Morning All!!

My name is Jim.
I took my big, giant, crazy step and signed up for the WDW 1/2 back in January, and the Expedition Everest Challenge since then.
Since then I got Verrrry lazy and have done no training. Last week I went back and revisited my C25K and am in week 2 again.
I think I need some inspiration, guidance and accountability from you folks here.
I am looking forward to getting to know some of you.

Good Morning Team: Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday. I haven't posted on the main thread for a while, and I wanted to jump in before it gets away from me again.

I had a great LR yesterday. Except for the fact I couldn't get started until 9:30am because I had to drop DD10 princess: off at an overnight girl scout horseriding camp. That meant I was out from 9:30-11:30a in bright, full sun. It was getting quite warm out there. Anyway I did 12.2 miles in 1:52 min for a 9:11 mpm pace. Whoo hoo! I felt great. My Garmin died recently which means I'm just timing myself with various means (I discovered my iPOD had a stopwatch feature - who knew :confused3?). It's been really different running without the Garmin strapped to my wrist. I just go out and run the pace that feels comfortable. I took walk breaks every 2 miles or so, and still ended up with a good pace. I feel great about it.

I gotta get my base built up so I can rest on our upcoming Disney vacation. We're going July 11-20. It's actually the first time we've ever had a long vacation at Disney. Before we've only ever gone for long weekend trips. I can't wait. The kids, DD10 princess: and DD7 pooh:, don't even know we're going yet. Schools aren't out yet in New York, and I thought we'd wait until they get out of school.

Anyone here listen to the DIS Unplugged e-mail show? ;)

Mel- Very nice job on that last mile. uugh, I can't imagine running in that kind of humidity. I don't have a lot of race plans for this summer. I'm very excited about out Disney vacation coming up though. I might try to run a couple times while I'm there just to keep my legs loose.

Jim- You can do this. Stick with the thread, and we'll get you there. Right now just focus on the 5k goal. Don't worry about the 1/2 marathon yet. Just think about developing the habit of going out and exercising. This is a great group, and they will get you there. I was in the same spot as you just 2 years ago. If it wasn't for the WISH team, I wouldn't have finished my first marathon at Disney.

Good morning everyone!

I don't feel worthy posting here as I have done ZERO walking/running since the Minnie. I need to get my rear in gear if I want to complete the Disneyland Half during Labor Day weekend. Just reading all of your posts will give me the encouragement that I need to get going. I admire all of you for getting out in this heat and humidity. You guys are my heroes!

Craig, is it possible for me to go from 0 to 13.1 miles in a little more than two months? :rolleyes1

I have been doing some exercising despite my lack of running. I just got a new road bike and although I'm not tearing up the roads just yet, I am getting out there. I peddled 28 miles yesterday in two hours...which is slow, I know. I kept thinking that there are people out there that can almost run a marathon faster than that. Ha!

Jim - :welcome: This is the right place to be for encouragement and support. Good luck with your training efforts.

Mel - you are really getting fast. Good for you for getting out there in the heat in humidity!

Dave - great job on the 12-miler! That is an awesome pace!!!! I have not listened to the DIS Unplugged show but I want to. I just keep forgetting about it. Thanks for the reminder! :teeth:

Good Morning Everyone!

I am in Disney (Yes, I know I just lost my job, but what the heck. I had the plane ticket, I had my DVC, I had my AP)

Got up this morning and did 4.4miles around OKW and the path to SSR. The humidity here makes Atlanta look dry LOL! My time was under an hour so that's good for me!

Mel, Youj are a better person that I. If I don't have a race to train for I am lazy and do nothing. So I have to keep something on the schedule.

Jim, Welcome!

Vic, Good Morning!

Susie. I went from 0 to 6.2 in about a month so anything is possible!

Have a good week everyone. I will be spending mine interviewing and making decisions (at least if the interviews go good I HOPE I get to make a decision) I have three strong possibilites, one good and the final option which is the toughest to decide on...going out on my own.......Hmm..)

Good Morning All

Jim

I too quickly read your post and absorbed "I am a big crazy giant," which got a reaction from me. There is inspiration and guidance galore here. Plus we have more than a few members with military backgrounds, so they can provide all the accountability you want.

Mel

That is pretty funny. "It's hot, it's humid, I don't have anything to train hard for, I don't feel that great anyway." So you bust off a final scorcher? Too funny.

Susie

Well you're not coming from zero. You did 9.3 a few weeks ago and are biking. I'm sure you can make it if you start up again soon, as you could get up to half the half if a couple of weeks I'd guess. I would like to hear what you thought of the DL Half. 23 years ago we were in Anaheim and I put on my running shoes and did some miles around the park and in the local neighborhood. I understand the company and others have spent a large amount of money refurbishing the area, so I'd love to hear your impressions.

MSWDave

It's good to see you. You have come so far and so fast in a few short years, congratulations. Have you told everyone the outcome of your multiple job situation? If you did, I missed it.

Vic

With half a pot of coffee and a cliff bar I think your body will want to do far more than 3. 30 sounds more like it.

Carol

I'm sure that was a very pretty route this morning. I also assume you could see the humdity in the air. Good for you.

I do have a comment about our buddy Howard. Honestly, I don't know how he does it. 1st WDW Half Marathon 2 days after kidney stones removed. A Jan 2008 Goofy with effectively no training. He goes sub-9 average for a 5K last weekend, with just a few weeks of training. Man, my first run after a 17 day hiatus, during which I walked a ton, was a total disaster. Legs hurt, diaphram hurt, brain whined the entire time that I should stop, what a mess. I lasted 4500 meters and declared victory so I could come back another day.

Howard, when you get match fit this fall, you need to go into an exercise phys lab and have a VO2 Max test done. I think you'll discover you have high level ability to take oxygen into your bloodstream and deliver it to your muscles.

My best wishes to you all in the heat and humidity. I grumble in December when you are running outside in nice weather, but I appreciate my ability to go out in good weather during our summer.

Hi guys and gals!

Mel: You go girl! You Rock! :thumbsup2 Keep up the good work with your training!

Vic: They had beer after the 8:30 AM 5K this morning. I didn't partake, but plenty did. I opted for a bacon and egg bagel, OJ and danish. :rotfl: Good stuff! ::yes:: I am picturing you on the TM looking like this --- :hyper:

Craig: I do have to correct you a bit. I ran my first Disney Half Marathon on January 7, 2006. I still was carrying around a big kidney stone with me. Less than a week before the race I was in the emergency room with the most dreadful pain you could imagine, diagnosed as a kidney stone. Since the New Year was that coming weekend, they opted to put a stent in me to keep the "duct work" open and flowing, opting to take care of the stone after the holiday. I got approval to run (with the stent in) and finished in 2:14:56 with a pace of 10:17 overall. It was a aweful experience I won't go into here, but I finished. You are too funny with regard to my capabilities... I put my running shorts on just like the rest of us, both feet at the same time. :rotfl:

That being said...

I am here to post my 5K results from this morning. All I can say is that I am glad I took it easy yesterday. Here are my results:

Miles: 3.1
Time: 25:32
Pace: 8:13

My Splits:

8:14
8:40
8:12

Cam, ran with me this morning. She ran/walked with another DIS'er Patty (from the Disney Weddings thread) and her daughter. She did great! :cool1: I think if she didn't PR, she got awefully close.

As far as my time, it is my 3rd best time ever! I have only finished better in two races one in September 2005 (my PR of 24:53) and December 2006 (25:15).

I didn't have any lingering ankle issues today during or after the run either. I am happy about that!

Tomorrow is a day off. I am supposed to XT today, I will be busy cleaning for house guests and packing for our trip to Disney whit coming Thursday. XT will have to wait!

Have a great day! Hi, again, to everyone!

Mel: Hey Humid Girl - I'm in that club also. I think next summer will be a non training summer. This summer is the first one for me because for some stupid reason I thought doing the DL 1/2 and getting the special medal for doing both coasts would be something cool. :confused3 . I will just hope to finish it with the way the heat is looking. Nice run!!

Jim: Hi and Welcome!! I'll see you at the WDW 1/2!! I am not doing the EEC but I might do the ToT. Keep up the work and training and let us know how you are doing. If you need a kick in the butt let us know that to and we are more than willing to do that too.

Dave: I'm jealous of your upcoming trip to WDW. Please just a reminder to bring your sunscreen, water, small personal fans and ponchos. Have a great time!!

Vic: I hope you have scheduled a potty break in there somewhere after that half a pot of coffee:hyper: .

Susie: Hey girl I guess I'll be seeing you at the DL 1/2. And by the way,..uummmm...please start to try and train!!!! I don't want to find you laid out of the side of the road in Anaheim CA!! I did a 7mile LD walk today. I think you can do it. Let us know how your doing!!

Carl: WDW!!! I'm Jealous!! and welcome to the Florida Humid Club!! We are a great group of people, we drip alot, but are still a great bunch of tenaciuos(sp) people.

Craig: Hi! I'm glad someone around here can enjoy there summer runs.

Howard: Great 5K!! Very NICE!!! I think your new name should be WISH racing GOD!!

Debra: I wore my "toe socks" this morning and everything went fine!! Glad to hear you are mostly moved in.

Duckie, Scott and Amybeth: Hope all is well with you guys! Check in when you can.
Liz and Maura: :wave2:

As for me, I did 4 drippy miles yesterday morning and 7 pouring miles for my training for walking the DL 1/2. (Drippy and pouring for those that aren't a part of the Humid Club, describes the sweat coming off your body) I did have one of those evil fly/bee/wasp thingy trying to attack me at mile 1.92 and stayed with me until about mile 2.03. I hate those things!! I had to run at one point. My 7 miles today was a steady pace 7 miles trying not to psuh too much with the heat and such. I am relaxing and iceing my left hamstring. I had some chocolate milk. Later on is NASCAR and ice cream for desert after dinner.
Take care everyone and :grouphug:.

Carol: Hope you're having fun in the World for the rest of us.

Jim: Welcome to WISH, now go get your DVC so we can WELCOME YOU HOME:thumbsup2.

Howard: WTG on your 5K, you must have placed in your age group? Those were some flying splits!:worship:

Mel: Keep up the good workouts, stonker or not, it's better than sitting on the couch, or being idle. ::yes::

Craig: Does every day here in the islands count as a "summer" run? I sure think so .

Tracy: Do you like NASCAR because you're used to going 'round and 'round in circles at Mt. Trashmore? :rotfl: Way to stick it out in the humidity. (You too Mel).

BIG Vic: Coffee, is that what makes you go fast in your NASCAR? Hmmm, I'm not a coffee drinker, but if we could invent a coffee expresso shot or Capacchino in a GU like packet, we'd be rich!

The clinic has our first bus run this morning. We pay $2 to be driven out past the farthest point of the marathon (Sandy Beach), and run the last 10-11 miles back to the race finish line. This gives the newbies the chance to see what the race course looks like in terms of what it looks like to finish. We throw in a pretty mean hill up the backside of Koko Head Crater, which isn't on the race course, but it's a great hill workout! :lmao:

Taking my new Garmin out today, see how it does on the inaugural run.

Last night I was having tightness in my calves. Realized I hadn't stretched. Reminder to all, listen to your body, it tells you when you need to take care of something. Pain is a signal to stop, drop, and stretch. :faint:

Have a great day everyone, will check back in this afternoon.

Jeff: hehe:rotfl2: , round and round at mount trashmore. I am planning on doing just that on Tuesday after work as long as the weather holds out. I just recently got into Nascar (like 3-4 yeas ago) when I found out my dad was kinda into it. Now I think I'm more into it than my Dad. I started out liking my Dad's driver Sterling Martin and then a new driver took over his car, a rookie named Kasey Kahne, so he is my driver and I love watching it. I have the Pit Command where I can listen in to the radio between the driver and pit crew and watch it live on the computer. It's a road race today so not much of an oval so not much of doing only left turns.
Jeff you made me laugh so hard I was on the floor!!:lmao:

Hi y'all. (Are northerners allowed to day that?;) )

Ah, Sunday. A nice day to rest--which I didn't. I tried out my new shoes, which I bought because the ortho doc said I overpronate, which I really don't believ. Anyway, my knees hurt right away--not good- and my right leg felt "strained". Coincidence? Not sure. So this week I will do an A/B comparison with my old shoes --all indoors of course so I can bring the new ones back and try something else. On the plus side--I ran my miles at 9 mpm pace with a .5 mile at 8:30. It felt really good cardio-wise. I think I can run faster if my legs would cooperate!

Mel Kudos for the good run. Unlike you, I really need something to train for, which is why I'm a little off right now.

Jim Welcome! There are many with wisdom on this board--I'm not one of them!

Dave Great long run. Have a great time at WDW.

escape I'm sure you'll get back into it and do great at the DL 1/2.

CarolA SO good to hear that you have lots of interviews and hopefully, lots of options for a new job. And why not chill at WDW. A little time away can help put all this in perspective.

Craig I'm sure you will be back to your usual wonderful pace in no time. My goal for the WDW '09 is to run one mile with you in my sights--then I know I would be doing well!

Howard So I've never sent you a shout-out although you've deserved many--for graduating and for all your great races. COngrats on your latest race!

Tracy Howdy, girl! I keep reading all your posts where you are off walking great miles/times. Keep up the great work! (And chocolate milk and ice cream--how decadent!)

Off to a HS graduation party, then finsish making the Pork Carnitas for dinner (Chipotle SLaw, cold beer---AAAAHHHHH!!!!!)

Good Morning All

MSWDave

It's good to see you. You have come so far and so fast in a few short years, congratulations. Have you told everyone the outcome of your multiple job situation? If you did, I missed it.Craig- Thanks for asking. I may not have told people over here on the main thread. I accepted the job at SUNY/Geneseo. I am now the director of the teaching and learning center at SUNY/Geneseo. I had to take a slight paycut in moving from the private University of Rochester to the SUNY system, but I think it's going to be a better job for me and a better fit. Plus, at least one member of the family will be bringing in a steady paycheck and not be dependent on research grants. Good luck with your training. I'm sure you'll be back in top form in no time. Are you heading out to Colorado again this summer?

Calcio

Dave

Thanks for the great news. I'm very pleased for you. Being entirely dependent on research grants for you rmonthly paycheck has to be stressful. Congratulations on more stability in the SUNY system. I found out last fall that Rochester has lost 2 very well known academics in my field, so it sounds like the financial situation isn't great there. So I guess double congratulations are in order for your move. Now the important part, since you have small children. Do faculty in the SUNY system get any type of tuition break or reciprocity? That would make your new position excellent three times over.

I did my third run since returning today, and yes, each one is a bit better than the first. The funny thing is the legs are far better than the abdomen/diaphram. I suspect I'll be pretty sore there for a couple of days after today's effort.

Thanks for asking, but no Colorado trip this year. We looked into a quick trip out and back, and the airfare was a shock. We don't really need to be there this year, so no trip to the mountains. Very Heavy Sigh!

Which, Maura, was quite a bit slower than you were today. My goal for the WDW half is sub-2, even if only 1 second, which is 9:09 per mile. It sounds to me like that's right around your likely pace. My goal for the WDW full is to take it easy and have fun, something I've not really done on my previous WDW marathons.

Hi, everyone! I have been missing all of you, but have been totally swamped with work and life and getting ready for vacation (oh, and planning a vow renewal, too. :bride: ), but I figure if I am EVER going to get caught up, I'd jump in today and just hang on for the ride. :grouphug:

Mel – I give you so much credit for running in those conditions. I just cannot imagine it! Congratulations on that super-fast third mile!

Jim – C25k is a great way to get back into the groove of running. This thread will pick up over the next few months as more people get into their half and full-marathon training plans. I have found that sticking around here is the best way to stay motivated and disciplined. Looking forward to hearing about your training!

Dave – How great to see you here! The the idea of running without the Garmin sounds so intriguing! I am so high strung about the pace showing there. It sure would be nice to just go out and run and then just see what the time is at the end. I hope your family is well! Any plans to get to Delaware this summer?

Hey, Vic! LOVE your pre-training diet! Gotta have the coffee!! The clif bar is just a bonus! :lmao:

Susie – I hope your “training up” for your half goes well! :goodvibes

Carol – I’m sorry I haven’t been around and didn’t know about the job situation. Sending you good WISHes and pixiedust: for an easy and satisfactory resolution. In the meantime, enjoy your time at Disney. Great pace, BTW!! I LOVE that path around SSR and OKW. Awesome place to train!

Tracy – I LOVE your post-workout diet even more than Vic’s pre-workout menu! Sorry about the bug attack, but great job!

Jeff – except for the “HILL” part, what an awesome idea for the bus run!! Many of us don’t even remember the last 8 miles or so of a marathon course, so it would be pretty awesome for the newbies to get to run it when they are feeling pretty strong, and can take in their beautiful surroundings. :thumbsup2

Maura – Great pace! I really hope you find the solution with the shoe situation. It certainly sounds like the new ones aren’t quite suited to your gait. Good luck finding the right shoe!

Craig – I’m sorry you are having a rough time with your runs after your vacation. I hope you are at least enjoying them, even if they aren’t optimal yet.

Back soon to update on my training.

Okay, hoping to post here and get re-motivated and start to feel better about things.

The great news is that my workout partner (Patty a/k/a pjstevens) and I have finished the Couch to 5k plan and ran our first 5k Thursday night. It was a wicked course and I'd been suffering stomach cramps all day. I was so glad not to be DNS and was outrageously proud of Patty's completion of her first race EVER. Finish time was 44:45. :woohoo:

Today was the 5k we were originally planning to do after C2 5k (we jumped into the other one because it is for one of our family's favorite charities). Today's course was marginally easier, but it was still wicked hot and humid.

My official time – 41:37; Garmin time 41:26. I am pretty sure this is a new PR, though I am so disappointed in my inability to yet reach my sub-40:00 goal that even a PR isn’t quite doing it for me these days. I suppose that shopping yesterday from noon until 8:15 pm wasn't the best "day-before-the-race-you-want-to-PR" regimine. :confused3
As I was lamenting by text to my dear friend Judy (honeibee) about this sad state of affairs, my workout partner called me to tell me I’d finished 4th (and she was 5th) in our age category! LOL! This is my first race EVER registering as a “RUNNER”, so maybe I should be thrilled.

Female Age Group 40 to 44
Place Last Name First Name City State Sex Age Div Place Time Pace
21 Warrington Jeanne F 41 1 00:21:21 06:54
58 Gillette Maria F 44 2 00:26:02 08:24
123 Weber Michele F 41 3 00:39:07 12:38
129 Keener Cam F 44 4 00:41:37 13:26
130 Stevens Patricia F 44 5 00:41:39 13:27

I am trying to be thrilled with the fact that I am now RUNNING almost my entire distances, but I am hoping to see some significant improvement soon. I have been working out 6-7x/week and started working with a personal trainer last week. I am doing all upper body stuff with him because I am still very weak in my upper body (and particularly on the right side, where I tore my trapezius in September). My goal is to get the darn scale moving again and to take off some inches (before my wedding gown arrives in October!).

So, believe it or not, in addition to the hours and hours spent on the elliptical and bike each week, the week of 6/8 I ran 10.62 miles total (runs of 2.66, 3.14, 2.82, 2 miles) and the week of 6/15 I ran 9.15 miles (runs of 3.05, 1, 2, 3.1 miles). I am hoping to get into/stay in the routine of running 1-2 miles minimum each day with longer runs scattered every few days while we are at WDW and on the ship.

I'm back from my supposed "8 miler" bus run. LOL, we took the newbies further on the marathon course, the part that loops through Hawaii Kai area. Well, it ended up being 11.9 miles. He He He. :lmao:

Tiny issue with not resetting my new Garmin 405 at the start. I included a .75 mile walk with my Princess #2 and dog from last night. So I was .75 ahead of everyone else with their Garmin 305's. I told them they weren't running far enough. :rotfl:

Also, the walking measurement last night made today's Garmin pace slower than everyone else's readings, so that's probably the reason I was running to fast for them. Must be the new equipment. LOL. :rotfl2:

Members at the end, provided apple bananas, mango bread, and pretzels. Mmmm, enough to get me home, so I could have some lunch.

Off to ice bath now. Safe Sunday everyone!::yes::

A quick hello from Arizona. It is absolutely gorgeous here!

I can get a decent internet connection if I sit on the rocks in front of our condo and point my computer in the right direction  ! However, I did manage to update my blog with lots of pictures from our first day in Phoenix.

I got in a four mile run this morning. The heat wasn't too bad (maybe 85 degrees or so, but no humidity at all). However, there was NO SHADE at all where I was running! The sun was brutal. I ended up switching from run/walk intervals of 4/1 to 3/2 just to cope. Note to self: start the run earlier in the morning (I started around 9:30)! I may also look for another route.

But - I got it done, and that's what counts! Given the stinky internet situation I am not sure how often I'll be updating, but I will really try.

Have a great week!

Cam, congrats on the great finish!

There is a happy hour 5k around the corner from my house on Thursday, but I don't have time for it. I've been working way too many hours at work. If I was getting paid by the hour I would probably be making 6 figures.

I didn't get any running done today, but DBF and I went for a bike ride on part of the Perkiomen/Skuylkill trail. Maybe next weekend, we will bike to Valley Forge.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

You sure don't waste any time posting, I am looking forward to trying to keep up with you guys.
I am getting ready to do my second run in week 2 of C25K, fortunately at midnight there is no one around to see my round self gimping down the street.
Have a great day

Cam- Congratulations on your 5K! That is fantastic! You are a runner. No doubt about it. Yes, we're going to try to get down to Delaware at the end of August - maybe around Labor Day weekend. The ocean should be nice and warm by then. Are you coming up for the Philly marathon this Fall?

Dave -- I will definitely be there scream-teaming. I've decided not to do any endurance races until I run the 1/2 in January, so I am going to have a great time cheering everyone on. Howard is running it too, so it will be even more fun for me to be there. :cheer2: I'll PM you to see if there is some chance of saying hi when you are driving through DE. Would love to see you and your family again!

My training today was 1/2 hour on the elliptical and 30 minutes with the personal trainer doing upper body strength training. I LOVE feeling like I've given my upper body a really strenuous workout. I know I've been doing wayyy too much cardio/running and am hoping this will balance it out.

I haven't checked into the weekly thread in forever, and look at all the stuff going on!

Cam- way to go! You are totally a runner. Don't worry about breaking the 40 minute barrier. You'll get there soon enough. As I remember, my best races were in the fall during my "real" training. I'm guessing it's hot and humid where you are- just wait until the weather helps you out! As for the shopping the day before, I can't help you there. I would have done it too.:rolleyes1

As for me, I'm getting really tired of sharing my space with GoofyBaby. I'm officially in my third trimester. I went on a 3 mile run that lasted one block and turned into a walk this weekend. I developed a side stitch, but since my side is now enormous, I couldn't decide if it was a running thing or pregnancy thing. ;) I did finish it, so that made me happy. The tightness of my shirt across my belly and the discovery of exactly where my sciatic nerve is did not make me happy... I'm a little apprehensive about the half in January, but so glad I have a goal. (And I'm doing it with my mom- it will be her first race ever so we are just concerned with having fun and getting the medals!)

I'm thinking about splurging on a really nice double jogger. You can buy an attachment that snaps a baby carseat in the one I like so you can start jogging with the baby before waiting the recommended 6 months. I can't decide if that's insane. I have visions of having to sit in someone's front yard crying because I've gone too far... Any thoughts? Am I smarter to just tell DH to deal with the baby and take Harry only? (Harry still loves to go in his stroller and I like having an accessory tray for my runs:laughing: ).

Jen -- I am so incredibly impressed by you! Do you remember when you first came to the WISH team and started this whole wogging/running journey? What an amazing journey you've had and you continue to impress the heck out of me with your discipline and passion for running. :faint: I think you should totally take it easy right now and enjoy your third trimester. Enjoy the walks and don't push yourself too much. I can't wait to hear how your labor and delivery differ from with Harry considering how amazingly fit you are (I don't remember whether you've told us if you had been in a fitness routine during your pregnancy with him). Oh, and I vote totally YES for the double jogging stroller splurge! That way you have the option of taking the little one if you want to. :cool1: I know how much you've enjoyed your runs with Harry, and God knows he is fabulous company! :lovestruc

Greetings Race Team -

We did our Fairfield Road Races yesterday. I did the 5K in 36:37 and Charlie did his Half in 2:22. I didn't PR but I did OK I guess, considering my training had been...sporadic to say the least. Charlie is disappointed with his time but I am thrilled and so proud of him. It was SOOOO HUMID (:worship: to you people in the south who train in this all the time!) He cramped up at mile 10 so I think he needs to work on taking in electrolytes. The 5K was perfectly flat but the Half had some major hills. It was a very well run race and it started and ended on the beach, and they had all sorts of festivities going on. Also, this was a sanctioned race so there were a couple of Kenyans and Ethiopians racing. They had bib number 1 thru 4. It was very cool to watch them. Maybe I could learn something from them. Ha ha ha! BTW, is it PC for the announcer to refer to them as Kenyans and Ethiopians? Maybe I've worked at IBM too long. We aren't allowed to even hint at referring to anyone's ethnicity. Anyway, it was a great day but the humidity was a killer so we lounged around for the rest of the afternoon.

MSDave - Hey, nice to see you here! :goodvibes Ohhh horseback riding camp! YAY! Be careful, though. I can tell you if she gets the "horse bug" it won't go away. ;) Hee hee. I hope you guys have a really great time at WDW!!! You deserve it, Dave.

Susie - Keep posting and we'll keep kicking your butt. You'll be ready for the DH Half in no time.

Craig - Don't let this get out, but...Howard is bionic. I think that's why Cam married him. ::yes::

Cam - OMG you placed! How cool is that!!! Congratulations! :woohoo:

Hello everyone!

Trying to jump in here before it gets away from me.

Jim - welcome! This is a great place and these are fantastic people. I went from my first 5k in Jan to a 15K in May with everyone's help. You can do it, too.

Maura - Mmmm, carnitas.... Follow that up with Tracy's ice cream and we're good to go! Hope you can get the shoe thing figured out quickly.

Tracy - You rock for getting out there in that humidity (and the bug thing would've had me running too). It'll get humid here before we know it. ugh

Cam - WTG!!

Jeff - a hill and extra miles? Evil....

Hey to everyone!!

Did my first duathon yesterday and must say I enjoyed it. Didn't do as well as I wanted but there's always next time. Patrick and I did it as a relay and we're putting together a RR. Have to do that together too or else the description of the running from me will be "Watched them go...."

Took today off work and it'll be a rest day, too. Maybe some pilates later but no cardio.

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Remeber me? http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b352/PoohsPal/Smilies/bagovermyhead.gif

We went from car shopping to life taking me out of town for work a lot. As much as I tell people not to worry about catching up with poeple, I have worried and been away longer than I should. :( I finally figured I needed to post before everyone forgot me.

I will try to get better. Have some long car rides coming, up so I will try to get teh threads printed to pdfs so I can read while riding.

The care rides are to adn from Mayo Clinic. SOem of you knwo that Scott's dad has myeloma (a very nasty blood cancer). As of today, FIL is at Mayo getting tested to see if he is physically able to go through a bone marrow/stem cell transplant. If all works out, the transplant (using his own marrow) will happen next week. Needless to say, it's a pretty intense week for us. We will head to Mayo Friday for one of at least 2 long weekends there this month (baring any problems that will ahve us there more). So, that's where life has me at the moment.

On teh happy side, we made a major step in trainign this weekend. We took teh plunge (literally) Saturday adn swam. neither of us can do teh crawl very well, but we will listen to/watch an Immersion swimming DVD enroute to Mayo in hopes of helpinh that. I swam 0.44 miles in 30 minutes. So, I will eb ready in 4 weeks to do my first tri. :scared1: I may very well DLF adn look dumb doing a side stroke, but it's a beginner firendly race adn we need to change things up a bit. So, I signed us up yesterday. It's a half miel swim, 18 mile bike and 4.5 mile run. We were able to run 3 miles at a pretty good pace Saturday after our swim, so we are pretty confident that we will finidh, although I may let Scottleave me this race, as he can swim MUCH faster than me and he is the one that wanted to do teh tri. I just couldn't let him do somethign new without me. ;)

Anyway, that's our world right now. Any postivie thoughts you could send FIL's way would be appreciated. :goodvibes

No, Scott's still giong to try to do teh one I told you about, as long as we are home. Just came up to quick for me and we're not sure if we'll be home or in MN this week. Trying to make sure one of teh"kids" is at Mayo every weekend.

HI Team - I am a complete lurker lately. You see, I lurk, get my fix then just don't have the time to post. I seriously didn't even realize it's has been as long as it has. I am living through all of you because I haven't done much since my 1/2 marathon a month ago. Oh, lots of gardening tho!!!!!

I have some serious issues in my life right now and the stress is sometimes more than I can handle. I know running would help relieve some of it, but I don't have the time. I am really working towards getting back tho. After reading Cam's RUNNING, I HAVE TO get back on track!!!!

Cam - I am so incredibly proud of you. I can't believe you are running a 5K... if you can do it... what's my problem? I mean with your cases and other obligations, I shouldn't have excuses!! Honey, I am so proud!!!

Carrie - Lot's of HUGS. My mom is quite ill right now also and I know what you are going through. She has lost her will to keep on and it devastates me!! It's almost like my nasty brother has won and totally defeated her and I can't let that happen. If you are ever "Driving through" on the way to MN and need a place to crash, let me know!!!

Judy - WAY TO GO... can I draft off of you?

Howard - I also wanted to shout out to you... for a guy that hasn't trained much... your times are quite speedy!!!

I know I am missing TONS of people... but I wanted to say... Hooorah to all the racers.... and keep on keeping on to those struggling (me included!!)

Cam – WTG on your 5K! You’re doing awesome! :thumbsup2

Jen in GA – We bought a jog stroller with the car seat attachment for DS, and I’ve only used it a handful of times. The baby decided to develop a severe aversion to his car seat, so doing any running with him has been out of the question. He’ll be six months old in a few weeks, and I’m really hoping that he’ll like the main part of the stroller better.

Carrie – Hey there! Good for you and Scott for going for your first tri! I’ll keep your FIL in my prayers.

Me - We finally decided that the DL Half is just not happening this year. I'm actually not too sad about it, especially since we're still going to try to make a DL trip, but without the race we can choose a cooler time of year to do it.

Of course, with that decision, all of my motivation went right out the window. I've got to get back on track if we're going to try for the SA RnR!

Howard - :bday:

Cam - You totally rock! You have come so far, and you are such a runner now!

Carrie - and pixiedust: for you, Scott and his family.

Jen - and pixiedust: for you too. Hang in there!

Judy - Great job on your race (and Charlie's too!) :cool1: I've finally accepted that PR's during the summer aren't going to happen cause it's just too darn hot and humid!

Kira - Checked out your blog and pictures from AZ - lovely!

Mel - My first thought when you said you were considering NC was that it's not any better here, but then I remembered running at WDW last summer... I guess the humidity is slightly less! ::yes::

Am enjoying my week off. Had upper body on the schedule for this morning, but the body said sleep in, and it gets to choose this week, so we slept in!

Hey all! Just back from an awesome weekend with my girlfriends at WDW! We ate and drank WAY too much, but I did manage one little workout. The sign about the BC yoga isn't up anymore--so I opted for a couple loops around the BW/BC/YC area. Then a little weight work in Muscles and Buscles. Now it's time to get serious in the w/o area again--that is until Friday when we leave for Hilton Head (rough life, right?)

Carrie--Lots of PD and prayers going out to Scott and his whole family! Will be thinking of you!

Cam: Yeah on your PR during the 5K!! You'll get the sub 40 5k soon, I ahev only don that once in my 5K FL Racewalking Judged 5K 39min53sec. Cool on placeing, that is very exciting!!

Jeff: Nic job on the 8miles.....oh I mean the 11.9 miles. hehe:lmao: oooooo, ice bath, I am getting to like those especially with the heat and humidity right now. ** Keep reading to the end for a special report **

Kira: Hey there in Arizona. Hope you are having a great vacation.

Jim: Just jump in where you can in the posts. Sometimes it will go fast, so just keep us up to date on how your doing or any questions you have and keep with as much or as little as you can.:)

Jen GA: Hey Goofy baby girl!! Take your time with stuff. I'm so amazed at your getting out there to run/walk/wog 3 miles in your third trimester. Just take care of your self and goofy.:rotfl:

Judy: Great job at the Fairfield ROad Race!! You and your DH!! Your joining the Humid Club?? We're a drippy bunch but fun. I have no idea if calling them Kenyans or Ethiopians is PC, but isn't that where their from???:confused3 If I was in a race in lets say... Ireland, and they said the American was there I would be ok with it.

Liz: CONGRATS on your first duathlon!!! You go girl!!! Take care and enjoy the day off.

Carrie: who are you??:rotfl: JK. SOrry to hear about you FIL, I would like to send some PD your way pixiedust: . Nice job on the swim and changing up on the workouts.

Jen117: Hang in there and get out and run when you can.

Ang: Do you need a kick in the butt to get out there?!? Just let me know.

Jackie: Enjoy your week off, I would if I could get a whole week off (I'm jealous!!)

As for me: I had a very busy day at work. One of my coworkers sprain a foot and broke one of the toes early Sunday morning and them limped around all morning until we forced her to go next door to see the podiatrist to get it seen. Anthoer coworker who is preggy with twins started to get vey nausiated (sp) after lunch and was then throwing up (sorry) and she left early. I did however had a great surprise when I got home. There was a white box sitting on the counter from Clever training and guess what it was.....

Tracy, Aloha Jeff, Susie, Mooshu (thought I'd throw Marcia's name into the hat), and everyone else doing DL 1/2: I'm getting so jealous of you all! Even with the heat! One of you folks, please do IJ for me while you're there. I love that attraction! And the Matterhorn.

Alohoa Jeff: So...how did you like your double-feature of Indy Jones and Kung Fu Panda? Enough action for you? (Better than running?) And what would your chiro have to say about all that sitting? I love the clinic's work with the 10-11 miler. I think getting that experience on what a race course might look like would be very valuable--if it didn't scare the pants off people! (Of course, that would be quite a sight.) I can hardly wait for your full Garmin review!!! (Same goes for Tracy.) :listen: It sounds like it's got a slight learning curve, but that you're liking it.

Tracy: Hello, drippy and pouring Trashmore queen. :rotfl2: I think those are great descriptors for one's efforts. I'm not a dewy, glistening woman; I'm a sweater, so I appreciate the labels. And I'm liberating them, just so you know. Sometimes all that sweating makes me appreciate ice (let alone ice cream) all the much more. Note I didn't say ice baths, just ice and ice cream. (That' last comment is a shout-out for Carrie, whom we all miss!) And in what flavor of ice cream did you indulge? I have Dublin Mudslide in my freezer calling gently out to me. I'm sorry to hear your co-workers are injured and ill, and hope it doesn't cause too much stress for you as well. Do any of them train with you?

Carrie: And today, just when I decided to give you the shout-out, you posted! Great minds, huh? I DIDN'T know about Scott's dad, but here's sending PD to you, Scott, DFIL and your whole family for good news from the Mayo Clinic regarding a successful marrow/stem cell transplant. I hope you're enjoying swimming as a way to shake up your WO plan. It sounds like you're looking forward to your tri!

Jackie: Wow, a couple of stonkers in a row. At least you and Cynthia were having dialogues with your bodies--mine often tends to be a monologue (even if I'm the one doing the talking)! And you could commiserate. Here's hoping this week goes better for you. It sounds like your body is appreciating the R & R, at least.

Howard: "Headaches in my ankles." Great description! And great job listening to your body and taking it easy when times call for it. That's some smart running. I can only imagine how your Goofy is going to really be a fabulous run this year! (And you deserve it, having read your back story.) Yeah for all your runs and for getting your 3rd-best-ever 5K in, and without any ankle pain.

Lily: Each WO is another step forward! Great to hear from you!!

Mel: Wow, you really rocked your run, especially coming back from walking mile 3. I think your decision not to do any major training is paying off with enjoyment and the overall quality of your runs. (Despite the first part of your post....)

Jim: Welcome! This is a great place to find support and even motivation! Advice, too. Many of us have or are working our way through variations of C25K, so post your progress and ask away. I'm so envious that you get to be part of the inaugural Expedition Everest, and look forward to your RR on that one! You're a night runner, huh? And at midnight. Wow!

Dave: It sounds like your Garmin-free runs have been good for you. Just like with Mel, you're enjoying yourself AND achieving great times. I knew the iPod has a stopwatch feature. I don't think I've ever used out--I do have a Nike+, though, and know it's timer isn't accurate. Yay for your long Disney vacation with the family! You all deserve to have a great time, especially after the stress of your last (academic) year. Congrats on your new job--it sounds like a good move for you and your family.

Vic: Half a pot of coffee? Man, I think I could run fast if I had that much. Not only because of the caffeine kick, but because I wouldn't want to be too far away from my bathroom. :rolleyes1

Susie: Yay for all the good WOs you've been doing. That'll keep you in some cardio health--and your bike riding sounds like it was fun, at least. I'm sure Craig can get you through to the DL 1/2 if anyone can. Plus, it's not like you're starting entirely from scratch. You did do the Minnie! :thumbsup2

CarolA: This week sounds like it will fly by. I hope you have so many interviews that your dance card fills up by tomorrow. And that you receive so offers that you feel confident in whatever decision you make--even if it means going out on your own. It must be flattering to be the belle of the interview ball. And you deserve good news like that!

Craig: Thanks for the background on Howard. Wow! Of course, I think what you do is pretty amazing, too, and admire how you're training smart! What made you decide to have an easy fun full in January? Just curious.

Maura: Besides the shoes, is there any reason you don't believe you overpronate? I only ask because it sounds as if you didn't believe the ortho before the run. Great pace, btw! And I hope you get the issues settled.

Cam: I'm so glad you had a great time on your 5K--AND that you got to run with Patty on her first 5K. What a great experience in so many different ways. Yay for both of you for finishing in the top five in your AG, and for finishing back-to-back! And you're registering as a RUNNER! What a big deal! Your training plans, with a PT, sound wonderful--and I have no doubts that you'll see lots of good things come out of it. Including your fitting for your VR gown in October. Btw, I hope you picked a trainer who's easy on the eyes. Hey, I take motivation where I can find it. So sue me. (Actually, you probably could. So strike that.)

Kira: :cool1: for checking in from AZ! I'll have to check out the pics on your blog. And WTG with running in no shade. That's determination!!! (More than I might have in your situation.) I just knew you'd be able to work in running on your trip. :woohoo:

MLA: A happy hour 5K? I've never heard of such a thing...but I like it, I like it! I bet the biking trails you've been using are just beautiful. Do you take a camera along, or is it more speed-focused?

Jen in GA: Wow, third trimester already?! It seems like only yesterday....(I'll bet you--and Krista--think otherwise). I didn't realize your mom was doing the 1/2 with you. A whole family of runners--that's so cool. I wish I had advice on the double-wide, but unless you're talking trailer parks I've got nothing. I come from a classy extended family, I do. :rolleyes1 (Not that there's anything truly wrong with trailer parks--it's just the stereotype that, unfortunately, my family fits.)

Judy: Congrats to both you and Charlie! I think you both did great, especially with the humidity and sporadic training! Electrolytes sounds like just the thing for Charlie. It must have been cool to see the Kenyans and Ethiopians. (Btw, I think it's okay to refer to the runners as such???)

Liz: Yeah, this thread is like a runaway horse sometimes, isn't it? I'm glad you enjoyed your duathlon enough to already talk about next time.... Enjoy your well-earned rest day!

Jen: Awww,. When you lurk, we know it's because you love us. (At least when you tell us that you've been lurking, which means you're no longer lurking....Hmmmm....) Anyway, just know that we're here to give you as much PD, hugs, kisses, and encouragement as you need. And a  or two, as they make me smile and I hope they do the same for you.

Ang: Sorry that you decided not to do the DL 1/2, but we decided we couldn't $pend the time or money this year either. It's around that time that my motivation went missing, too. Makes me think that I need to have a Disney race always on my calendar. Do you know when you're going to DL?

Stephanie: Too bad about the no-yoga at BC. It sounds like a fun run happened, though. And even more fun with your GFs. Any risque stories you'd like to share?

As for me: Not much to report. 4 miles today, then some biking. I really need to listen to the body, as Jeff said, and stretch more.

I'm also having Garmin envy. But before any of you make too much of that, sometimes a Garmin is just a Garmin.

Late night drive by.

I rode the bike to/from work today. Garmin came along, but didn't quite work like I thought it would, since I don't have the bike cadence thingamajigy. Need to get one of those on eBay!

Anyways, the security guard at my building laughed when he saw my bright green WISH shirt. He made the comment, no one is going to miss you on the road wearing that shirt! :rotfl2: I totally took it as a compliment.

Got home, and decided to take my brand new cycling shorts back to Sports Authority to exchange. Before I even tried them out, I found 3 holes in the right leg. Didn't want it to tear any farther, so back for a better pair.

Came home, and gave the bike a mini tune up. New green slime into the inner tubes. Adjusted the handlebars that were crooked, and tightened the seat rack which was loose. Need to get some new brake pads soon. :scared1:

I will do my 8 miles with Les the Guru tomorrow. Tradewinds have settled down again, so it's been hot the last few days.

65 days until the Disneyland Half everyone (for those who are counting, he he he).

My new GARMI 405!!! This is me checking it out as it is charging.

Oh dear, I thought I had it bad setting up my new toy. You actually took a photo with it, WHILE WAITING 3 HOURS TO CHARGE! :lmao:

We'll have to figure out how to send each other workouts via the Garmin Connect website.

Deb: I've been using the iPod with Nike+. Mileage is never right, but the time running always was, when comparing to my chronograph on my wrist watch. Running without music on Sunday was something new for me. I need my tunes, so I'll be using my iPod as well.

Also, Deb, if you start running now like I told Leanna in Canada a month ago, you'll make it with plenty of time to start the Disneyland Half.

Carrie: Pixie Dust to your father in law. We lost my dad over 5 years ago to a combination of cancers. It's never easy for family or the person who is ill. Keep a positive mental attitude, we're all rooting for you all. :wizard:

Carrie Good to see you back, if only for a moment. Sending good thoughts you and Scott's way for his dad. Good for you for signing up for the tri--I'm a little chicken, but getting closer. I did watch the Total Immersion video, but most of the drills they demonstrated involved two people, and there's only me, so I fast forwarded through it. BUt 2 tri books I checked out from the library had very similar drills in it, and I did those for a while (after a while, I couldn't see the point!) Good luck with it all.

Debra I have no sound, logical data to prove I'm not an overpronator. It's just that I have never had it pointed out to me by the running shoe guys (and they would know) and also--this sounds weird--when I walk barefoot, I feel fine. When I walk in shoes, I actually feel like my right foot supinates instead (total sensation of walking on the outside edge of my foot.) Plus, the ortho guy just didn't "seem too into me" as a patient, hence my reluctance to trust his diagnosis--especially when he didn't even watch me walk.

Tracy Nice toy! I went to REI and ooked at Garmins. They were out of the 405--they tended to go quickly, but did have the 305. Yikes, they are about 5x the size of my wrist! Don't think I could wear one. Is the 405 much smaller? Have fun with it!

As for me 40 minutes in the pool today. A few laps of using a kick board. Wow--I didn't realize I could swim backwards!!:lmao: That sure is what it felt like. Using my legs as the sole means of getting to the end of the pool was a slow proposition.

So if I am going to do a tri, I need a new bike. Off to the store with DH (the bike guru) to find one that's just right.

Hi, everyone, we are in the home stretch towards vacation and work will be insane these last two days.

I've decided to shake things up a bit on the TM and didn't run today, but instead put it at a 4.0% incline and did 30 minutes at 4.0-4.2 mph. I am definitely feeling it in my legs already. I am hoping this type of session will help with the hills that are inevitable in the 5ks around here. ;)

Debra -- Yes, my personal trainer is very easy on the eyes in a totally "Howard" kind of way. He is about our age, very clean cut, strong looking but not "ripped" (which would totally intimidate me), and he has a great, encouraging personality. :goodvibes

Maura -- As much as some people might boo me, I'd look for advice at the running store, but that's just because I have gotten such great advice on shoes at our running store. The last time I was there, the very first pair of shoes the guy suggested were a dream come true. Good luck!

Tracy -- Very nice new toy! Great picture! You look so excited to have it! Have fun! :)

Carrie - sorry to hear about Scott not being able to do that one. Hopefully you'll be able to talk him into doing the Middleville one for himself. If you want to send me the link, I'll take a look and see what's up.

As for swimming in Lake MI - you just don't do it off Chicago beaches. Water is an un-natural shade of green.

Hey all you Wonderful WISHers!!!

Carrie: Thanks. Choking on the water while swimming, not sure if that works or not?. Please be careful out there!!

Cam: That incline workout sounds like a nice change for you. I'm sure it will help you with those 5k hills.

Maura: Yes, my new Garmin 405 is smaller than my 205 (which is the same as the 305). I will meaure and compare them for you and take photos side by side to show the comparison. Good luck with the bike search.

Jeff: My Garmi buddy!! I wonder if you could just keep the 405 set to running while on the bike and at least you could get distance and time. Not sure is that would work or not. I need to get on Garmin Connect I just have the software on my laptop that I was using with the 205. I could send you the Mount Trashmore route.

Debra: Hey, I did more of that drippy sweating stuff after work. My flavor in the freezer ( i had some tonight) is Edy's Slow Churned Cookies and Cream. I had a bit of milk in the bowl with Hershey's Shell topping! YUM!!! Yours sound good also. Work, ugh sometimes I just try to block it all out.

As for me: I was back at one of my most favorite places tonight after work.............. Mount Trashmore!!!! I missed my ol stomping grounds (walking grounds.) And boy are my gluts feeling those hills and trails. Used my new Garmi too was it was a nice end to a stressed out day at work again. The one preg girl was still sick at 4am so she didn't come in. Another girl in still limping around with her broken toe/jammed other toe and sprained mid foot. ANother girl was late and didn't feel good all day, she came to work with a migraine. Hey I was there and put on my "happy face" and just went on. (Debra: none of the girls trains with me. The preg one use to walk with me until she got married and had to get home. I do have a lady the use to work for us and she will do some local 5ks with me. She is a jogger.) I felt like someone who works at WDW. I was "onstage" and didn't let any of the other stuff affect me. But my visit to Mount Trashmore and using my Garmi405 was a great end to the day.

Have a great evening everyone!!

Aloha Jeff: It sounds like you're really enjoying the bike commute to work thing. And that you're eye candy for the security guard. I'd love to do DL, but DOOD and I are cutting back on trips. Same all over, I suppose.

Maura: ....he didn't even watch me walk. Hoo boy, I wouldn't have listened to him either. I'm with Cam, in that I trust the staff at my local running store. (Small, independent, knowledgeable.) Are you enjoying the swimming--it certainly sounds like a challenge!

Cam: Woo hoo for hill work! You sound totally energized since running your 5Ks! And it sounds like you've signed up for a lot of ones to keep you moving forward and feeling motivated!

Howard: Despite your soreness, hills, and breathing issues, I think you did a great job with your 3 miles!

Carrie: It sounds like you're enjoying the challenges of swimming, at the very least. Hmmm, it looks like, Maura, and Liz can exchange notes, too, maybe even on swimming in Lake MI if either of you choose to go that route eventually. Here's PD for your first yoga class in over a month! (Wowsa. You'll be so happy you did it, I know.

Tracy: Wow, it certainly sounds like you were onstage today--and the healthiest person at your work! I'm glad you have Mount Trashmore as your your happy place. Splash Mountain it ain't, but it still sounds like a good place to go to relieve some work stress.

As for me: It was a Penguin day for me. Penguins, penguins, penguins, everywhere I turn. And, like many of us, penguins make me think of John Bingham, about running, and about the courage to start. So it was a nice to have these little reminders throughout the day, even if today was a XT day for me. I share them with you, my WISH running buddies!

First, I'm reading the first Laurell Hamilton book (her Blood Noir is on the NYT best seller list); it turns out the main character, Anita Blake, collects stuffed penguins. This reminds me, of course, of Bingham--and AmyBeth and Scott.

Second, I'm listening to my local college radio and I hear "Do the Funky Penguin" by Rufus Thomas (of "Funky Chicken" and "The Breakdown" fame).

Third, I'm shopping for Burdick Chocolate (http://www.burdickchocolate.com/) online. (Yes, I frequently buy chocolate online. I was a member of a chocolate of the month club--and the only reason I cancelled it was because they repeat vendors after the first year.) And I see these ever-so-perfect chocolates. They're wedding favors packaged with a lime green ribbon!

Wow, when you don’t get on here as often as you want the thread can really get away from you. I’m sure I will miss some people but here goes:

Jim- Welcome to the boards. As many others have said you can find a lot of advise and inspiration here.

Susie- Good luck on getting the miles back up for the DL half. The biking can really help even if you don’t get the running in.

You Florida Runners- I can’t imagine the humidity down there. When I lived there I had just started running and was out of there before all the humidity. God luck and stay hydrated.

Maura- If you find a good running store they should do a detailed measurement of your foot (arch height, how much your foot elongates when you step, etc) and watch you run on a treadmill. They can give you good advise on what shoes work for you and let you do A/B comparisons on a treadmill all you like. I was told that I over-pronate and when I went to the local Fleet Feet they watched me run and said I have one of the most neutral gaits they have ever seen. Lesson: Always get a second opinion.

Cam- Congratulations on your first 5K…here’s :drinking1 to many more

Carrie- I hope the FIL pulls through. Two of my best friends are cancer survivors and it is not pleasant watching people go through these things.

Jen- Running really can help with stress if you can find the time.

Tracy- Sounds like you are going to be short handed at work soon. I just went through that. There are 3 of us in our department and the other 2 have had kids in the last two years. While they are both the fathers instead of the mothers they still took some time off and end up coming in late or calling off with the kids. I just remind them of all the time I covered for them when I put in for things like biking Tuscany and the podcast cruise.:rolleyes1

Debra- Nice penguin chocolates. This post might look like one of your pretty soon.

Now as for me. This weekend was a double race weekend for me. I had a 4 miler Friday after work and a 10K on Sunday. I had set a goal of 26 minutes for the 4 Miles and 40 minutes for the 10K. I am very glad to say I managed to hit both goals. I finished the 4 miler in 24:37 (6:09 pace) and the 10K in 39:51 (6:26 pace). I also figured out the half marathons I will be doing in the fall. There is one here in Strongsville in September (the River Run Half Marathon) and one in Columbus in October (Nationwide Better Health Half Marathon)

That’s it for now. Happy training all.

I got out and ran 7 of the usual 8 miles. My buddy, Guru Les took a day off from running :scared1:, that's a first! Anyways, my pace was a cool 9:30, just taking it easy.

Have a great Wednesday everyone. Where have all the WISHERS gone? Been awfully quite on the threads lately.

I have been lurking again. Way too much going on. The big Indiana Jones birthday party is this weekend. I spent yesterday afternoon paper mache-ing giant punch-balls. I still have to devise the obstacle course I am sending the Indys-in-training on. :scratchin I wanted to have it outside, but I am thinking the weather is not going to cooperate. :worried: Anyway, I will post pics later - this should be fun. Tracy - Ugh, what a day. Glad you could relax at your favorite stomping grounds. :rotfl:

Frank - WTG!!! That is awesome!

Jeff - GOtta laugh. You tell Frank he's fast adn then post about your "cool" 9:30. Yeah, there's nothing coll or relazxing about that pace for me!

OK, finally did yoga last nihgt. FUnny, best my hammy's felt in 3 or 4 weeks. You's think I'd learn.

Dilema of teh day. There's a half in my hometown on the 4th. I coudl neevr do it becuase we always have peopel out here. I have not done more than 5 in 3 weeks. I do not do heat and sumemr has taken my confidence away. May be my only chance to do this race, though, and it could be coupled with a chance to see out of town family. GOnna' do 8 Saturday and see. Oh, the other down is seeing poeple (Including old CC coach that I don't care to see) that I have not seen in over 20 years adn 50 pounds ago when I coudl do a 5K in less than 21 min. :( Must keep telling myself that I wouldn't even dream of a half marathon then, though. Think it would help if I ran with my 3 Mickey medals? :rolleyes1

Jen, sweetie, I am so sorry for all you are dealing with. Sending you a huge  and lots of pixiedust: I hope your Mom starts doing much better.

Kristi -- The party sounds amazing!!! WOW!! Please don't ever tell my kids just how much planning COULD have gone into their birthday parties.

Carrie -- I'm sorry I'm not able to give any advice on the 1/2 marathon dilemma. I am all for just doing 5ks right now and waiting for cooler weather to train for a 1/2.
ETA: I DO NOT think you should let your decision be influenced by who you will see. You have accomplished great things over the past couple of years, and you may find that some of those old running acquaintances have not progressed in their distance and endurance the way you have (and incredibly so!), so that may be just the ego boost you need.

Geez, I cannot believe the paces some of you are running. :worship: I am so outrageously impressed!

Debra -- I hope you are enjoying your new digs and that life is calming down a bit!

My workout this morning was a 10 minute mile on the elliptical set on "hill plus" and then 30 minutes of upper body strength training with the personal trainer. I had him show me how to do some free weights and universal machine setups so that if there is equipment like that at the resort or on the WONDER, I may have the courage to do something other than the treadmill, bike & elliptical. :cool1: I very optimistically packed 2 workout outfits for WDW and 3 for the ship (not much else is packed, but I do have my running clothes & running shoes! :lmao: ). My goal is to use them for their intended purposes. Last year, I mostly walked the running course on the ship. I am really, really hoping to run at least a couple miles on it this year as the sun rises and dolphins frolick within my sightrange. :cloud9: :woohoo:

Debra - Love love love the chocolate penguins especially since they are sporting the Lime! :thumbsup2

Note to Cindy in MA: I saw your friend on Sunday. She recognized me (or more likely the shirt) from the Bigelow. :goodvibes We decided we want you to do the Bigelow this year too and we were going to talk you into it. ::yes::

Oh, how I wish I had time this week to read all of the posts. Since I don't, I just wanted to jump in and say hi.

It's a crazy week for me. This week we have three family birthdays, not to mention the other two we already had this month. We were away for the weekend (part of DD and DS b-day present was an overnight trip to NYC), and now I have to make a cake for my mom's b-day and plan my son's b-day. Sitting here finishing my gin & tonic (with Mickey ice cubes!!)........

Debra & Frank I intend to turn myself over to runners for guidance on my shoes et al. Turns out one of the former Hanson-Brooks distance runners is a PT who also does video gait analysis. So why not let someone who understands running & the human boday have a crack at figuring things out!
Today I did an A/B/A test with my old shoes and new shoes long enough to : 1)make my knees hurt reeeeeaaaaal good and 2) determine that I don't like the new shoes. Next up? Cushioing insoles and maybe an ITB strap. Also sent a note to the doctor providing some "feedback". Didn't say what I would have loved to have said (he "phoned it in"), just gave a couple of recommendations.

Cam Running while on a Disney cruise staring at the beautiful blue sea. Wow--sounds like a great thing to me! My vacation next week consists of driving 14 hours to visit my Mom so she can see the dog! Although I will get to see my daughter and veg out and read trashy novels and eat--hmm, maybe not too bad!

I continue to swim and bike--Will not run next week at all--unless I see some little 5k on 4th of July.

Have a great evening everyone and GO FRESNO STATE!! (Sorry all you Georgia fans, gotta root for the underdog to win the College World Series)

Hey teammates! Frantically trying to pack 4 people for 10 days of vacation. Good thing I "sort of" have tomorrow off. Tried to get a workout in this afternoon after work, but DD guilted me into not doing it--something along the lines of "Mommy, please don't leave me!" with accompanying croccodile tears. Hoping to get to Zumba tomorrow afternoon, but not holding my breath

Debra--Hmmm, any risque stories from the weekend??? I guess the best was when I asked our waiter at Ohana how I could get a lei (sounds much funnier than reading it) and he said just ask me--so I asked our waiter for a lei, much to the amusement of our table, and probably those around me. Hello everyone,

Well I have a moment and can actually post. A quick update on what has been happening around here since the last post, about 3 weeks ago.:rolleyes1

Lynnda and I celebrated our 10th anniversary with a dinner at Yachtsman Steakhouse and then watched Illuminations all without kids. However we did discover we just can't stay up as late as we used to. :lmao: We shocked ourselves and found other things to talk about than kids. Here's hoping the next 10+ are just as fun.

The weather has been trying to dampen any workout plans. The rain I would love but we seem to get more thunder and lightening instead of rain. I am almost to the point to see if I run faster when dodging bolts. :lmao:

Lynnda is running around all over town with the kids. I think she is definately busier than I am just keeping up with them. She has VBS this week and is enjoying the time in one spot.

I decided to try biking to work everynow and then and did it a couple of times before the previously mentioned thunder and lightening came around. Once again I may start taking my chances. :rolleyes1

Now to catch up a little...

Cam and Howard - Have fun on your cruise. Remember to take a Garmin and turn it on during your runs. It can be fun to show people how fast a training run you can really have. :lmao: Cam - Congrats on running the 5k. You are doing great with your training.

Judy - First foam rollers and now hammocks. I just can't comment on that... :rotfl:

Kristi - Sounds like a fun party. Make sure you post pictures of the obstacle course.

Jeff and Tracy (along with Vic and others) - How do you like the 405. It definately looks nice and may be put on a to get list.

Angie - I think you were asking about training plans last week and amount of time to do it. Howard has a great 3 or 4 week Goofy plan that has gotten him to the finish each year. ;)

Carrie - So sorry to hear about Scott's dad. Hope you are able to get some relaxing time for yourself. Good luck in training for the tri. It is something I haven't quite gotten brave enough for.

Debra - You like chocolate, I never would have guessed. ;) Those are cool penguins that you found. Did you ever get everything moved into the new place.

Frank - Great job on the races. Those are some awsome times you posted.

Welcome to all new members that I haven't said hello to. Hope you are able to find support and get some questions answered.

Hello to all I missed but it is now time to put kids to bed before they destroy the house.

Stephanie:
Come out to Hawaii, lei's abound everywhere you look. At the airport, at the supermarket, at the drug store, we even have Lei stands downtown. May 1st is Lei Day, where we celebrate by wearing lei, and draping the King Kamehameha statue with lei, and even had a Guiness Book attempt at the longest lei.

Lei is tradition for birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, and really huge for graduations.

Er, wait a minute, are you talking about the same kind of...

Bill,

I got mine, and I'm testing it out. I'm amazed with all the gizmos you can do with it. My friends have the old 105's, 205's, and 305's. This is way smaller.

It picks up the satellites here in Honolulu fairly quickly. I did have connection problems yesterday when running through the high rise hotels in Waikiki. It missed some of the mileage, oh well. I think there are some issues with tree cover as well, but I'm talking thick overhead branches in some of the areas I run.

This morning I used it in running mode to track my bike ride in to work (another day of saving a gallon of gas in the Tacoma Truck :thumbsup2 ). I will see if it records if I switch to biking mode, even though I don't have the cadence attachment on the bike.

Fortunately, I found someone locally online who had a spare 405. He had already bought one for himself, and was given one as a gift. So he unloaded it to me, with no tax, no shipping fees, and well below the MSRP. I paid cash, so it was win-win for both of us.

Mine came with a heart rate monitor, so it's fun seeing how I've been putting the 'ol ticker to the test. :yay:

The USB connector works pretty easily. Use this to upload all my workouts to the Garminconnect site. Once you upload, you can check out the activities, and see how far, fast, and even a googlemap of your route. Pretty cool.

The battery seems like you have to charge it every 4 days, with several workouts in that time. If not using the GPS, then the charge should last longer.

While I kept telling my running friends I love my iPod for the music beat to run to, I never thought I'd invest in a Garmin. Now that's I've had it since Friday, I'm glad to have it.

Duckie: Hey girl are you out there somewhere??

Jeff: I used my 405 on a bike ride today, but just kept it on the running mode and it worked fine. It gave distance, time and pace all good. Awesome that you moved up one spot in the 2007 Honolulu Marathon!.

Debra: oooooo...Space Mountain, I like your thinking on that. I loved the chocolate penguins with the lime ribbon. I have never heard "Do the Funky Penguin", sing a few lyrics for me??

Frank: You have some awesome and speedy pace numbers there!!!!! I do try to remind my bosses about how I am always early, stay after and don't miss work much due to illness when WDW trips and marathon weekend come around.

Kristi: Can't wait to hear about the Indiana Jones party.

Carrie: I think you could do the half. I guess just listen to yourself and your body and if it says, "go for it", then DO IT!! I also do believe that who will be there shouldn't deter you from doing something you love to do!!

Cam: I'm sure you'll get some good WOs on your trip. (esp the fact the that is all you have packed so far). Plus how can you not do it with a sunrise, dolphins and great scenery.

Julie and Jean: :wave2:

Maura: I think your plan to lay off running for a week sounds good to me. Also I think having your gait and stuff analized is a good idea. I also say go Fresno State because Georgia beat Miami and I don't like Georgia anyway. (sorry GA fans.)

Stephanie: I like your story about getting a lei. :rotfl2:

Jim: Keep up the good work. I am not familiar with c25k, but I can tell you that with added distance and time, you can be a bit slower and a bit sore afterwards. I just recently went back to a hilly trail that I hadn't been to since the end of April and I was a bit slower and I was sore this morning when I got up.

Today was a day off for me. I had my massage this morning and he did some new stuff with the neck and head today. I got to see Kung Fu Panda, which was very cute and I laughed. Took my nephew for his birthday. I also did a 4.25 mile bike ride later in the day after it rained. Now just watching So you think you can dance and chilling.

Here is my comparison of the Garmin 205 versus the new Garmin 405.

Hey ice cream buffs...

On July 1st, Dairy Queen is introducing their newest Blizzards... drumroll please...

Girl Scout Thin Mint Cookie Blizzards! Mmmmmm, are you drooling yet? :lmao:

Offer is good for one month only under a first-ever licensing agreement between Girl Scouts and Dairy Queen.

Whooosh, that sound was Deb, Shan, Scott, AmyBeth, and Tracy running out of their buildings to go stand in line... :rotfl2:

Jeff - While you are right about DLF, a DLF due to heat for me means possible migraine, even if I stop before I feel over heated. We went from 40s to 80s to 40s to 70s for lows the past month. Just haven't gotten acclimated yet. I know it's hard for you to comprehend. ;-) OMG, Thin Mint blizzards. Give me one with chocolate ice cream and I think I will be in heaven!

Bill - SOunds liek you did great with your anniversary planning. Tell Lynnda she owes you an extra kiss. ;)

Tracy - I have such Garmi envy. WHile I love my 201, to not carry the worldon my wrist woudl be nice. Think my pace would improve with the decrease in weight? :p

Jim - Can't help with C25K, but just wanted to let you know that if you keep at it, you will amze yourself one day!

Maura - Sure you don't wnat ot do a half in Brighton on the 4th? ;)

Stephanie - Oops, thought you were posting from vacation. Good luck ghgetting packed! I would have caved to teh tears too!

Judy - :rotfl: I'll never look at a hammock teh same weay again. ;)

Hi WISH Team! I haven't had much time these days.

I've only read on this page and want to respond to Jim if you are sore, it is ok to repeat a week. We all progress differently and staying at the level for another turn will not be a bad thing. Going too quickly through it could cause injury. See how you feel after the repeat week for the challenge of moving up to the next week.

Not much time for reading and even less for posting, but I just had to comment:

Tracy, I love the alternating colors of the names in your post. Very creative! :)

Jeff and Tracy (along with Vic and others) - How do you like the 405. It definately looks nice and may be put on a to get list.

I THINK I'm finally getting a handle on it. I keep forgetting where on the bezel to tap to get it to go where I want. :lmao: I like to use the Garmin Training Center to log my times, but after the first couple of runs when I would upload (or though I was uploading) the information it wouldn't show up. After a little research I found I had to do an update for the Training Center to accept the information. Once I did that it's worked great. You can also upload your information to garminconnect.com. It's a pretty cool little gizmo. I also bought the foot pod to use on the TM. Once calibrated it, no problems.

Stephanie: Zuuuummmbbbbbbaaa.... Zoom and away you go on vacation. Have fun.

Jeff: thanks for the blizzard info, you guessed correctly on the wooosh because that is what I will do to try out the blizzard, maybe after one of my long walks on a Sunday!! I also dream of Mickey Mouse being pres one day. Still loving the 405 and I used my HR monitor tonight. Max heart rate was 181 at one point while I was doing a fast mile in my 4 miles tonight. Pretty cool!!

Carrie: As Jeff pointed out to me earlier that both wrists need to have about equal weight otherwise you start to go in circles like me and then you need an alignment adjustment. However, it is lighter than the 201, so your times would be faster11

Juile: Thanks for the compliment on my color foray, I try to be fun when I can with the posting.

FLBill: I am lovin my new Garmi 405 so far. I use it for my walking and on a few bike rides. I just leave the setting on running for the bike and it works pretty good since I don't have the bike cadence thingy. Connecting the HR monitor is pretty much instantaneous, connecting to computer is good and automatic download to the garmin connect website is great!

I did a 4 mile walk tonight and I used my HR monitor for the first time, that was pretty interesting. I need to go get my little ice cream snack so I can watch So You Think You can Dance results show.

Where is AmyBeth, Scott and Duckie?????? Especially Duckie???????

Hi everyone else and have great evening.

Frank: You're smokin' fast! :worship: Have I ever told you that I think your location, Strongsville is just so appropriate for you? It looks like you're doing mostly local races? That a work thing? Just curious.

Aloha Jeff: The question is, without Les running with you did you feel you had permission to slow down? I'm thinking, no, it's the heat. But that's just speculation--who knows, you might be a slacker without Les to keep you in line? :rotfl2: Morphine? That's an odd one. Congrats on moving up a place. It's too bad about the negative PR for the marathon, though.

P.S. Did I hear someone say Girl Scout Cookies and ice cream? :listen: Why am I still online?

Tracey: Love the lime green and orange colors in the names. Makes me think of sherbet--a nice change of pace from ice cream. (I tell you, it's the heat that gives me this one track mind. Well, the song lyrics to "Do the Funky Penguin" are quite complicated. Something like this: Do the funky penguin/do it right now/Do the funky penguin/do it right now. Not very complicated, as it's one of the novelty dance songs, but it does make me want to pick up my feet. And if you could hear me sing it, you'd giggle because it's be off-key. Btw, I'm glad you had a great day with DN. Seeing Kung-Fu Panda sounds like a great way to spend the day!

Aloha Jeff, Vic, Tracy: Sounds like the Garmin 405 is a good deal. Thanks for testing it out and reporting back to us. I'm putting it on my gift-list. Now, whether that means I'm giving it to DOOD or wanting someone to give it to me....I say, why the either/or? There are now TWO runners in my household--we'll just need to get used to it!

Kristi: I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the IJ party pics. It's just the kind of themed party I'd like to hold--for myself.

Carrie: I'm so glad you enjoyed yoga! Like many people, I think you can do the half--especially if you took it nice and slow. The question is, would you be happy with doing it with little training AND with the possibility of running into people who would see you performing in less-than-top condition. (Not that I think you SHOULD care, but you know...how you feel about that is a real concern, so I don't want to dismiss it. Those folks though--meh. I'll bet you can take most of them in a fair fight. Er, race.) I think the opportunity to do a race you've wanted to do, combined with seeing family, would outweigh most of the negatives--but only you can decide what your level of current training will allow you to accomplish and if it's worth it.

Cam: I think you're gone now, but I'm very impressed with the prep work, including working with your PT, that you've done for your DCL trip. It's going to rock! :cool1: And packing WO is a commitment, especially with all the luggage issues that come with today's flights! Here's hoping for some frolicking dolphins--and some other frolicking! Hammocks should be involved, I think.

Judy: We both just draft off Frank, I think. If he'd just slow down a tad. You think he would do that for us? :rotfl2: Yay for Charlie's commitment to racing--it's good to have everyone running in the same direction, isn't it Almost as good as some nice, leisurely hammock-time. :rolleyes1

Howard: I love Judy's version of the hammock story, designed for the family-friendly DIS, I'm sure. You just stick to your version on YOUR trip. But no pictures, okay?

Julie: Happy b-days to all your clan. I hope they enjoy their cake--with or without ice cream. (Save a slice for me!) Good luck squeezing some runs in your busy, busy weekend!

Maura: The Hanson brothers! Woo hoo! They're great! And even better that you gave the doctor some feedback--someone will get something useful out of the exchange, at least. Too bad it wasn't you. And you know, now I have to go have a gin and tonic. I'm SO susceptible to (good) suggestions.

Stephanie: Ooh, Zumba. Everyone in the Zumba class, on the rare occasions I see them, seem so happy! As for the risque stories, I love how you're willing to be upfront and ask for a lei. In my experience, it's better to ask directly for what you want because the chances are much better that you'll get it. Plus, you're a woman who obviously knows that the proper follow-up to a Disney cocktail is a good lei. (Okay, I've tortured that one enough--don't want to get points now!)

Jim: Ditto what Lily says (good advice as always, Lily!) I think it's perfectly okay to visit any training day or week that you feel necessary. C25K is only a rough outline of one possible way to get up to the 5K marker. I've done it, and going through it again to work on speed, and am repeating weeks as I see fit. I think it's especially important to pay attention to what your body needs instead of rigidly following a schedule if you are prone to injury, btw. And if you're hurting, listen to your body! :thumbsup2

Bill: Wow, your 10th anniversary sounds marvelous on all accounts. Memorable, intimate, fun. Well done! I hope your next 10 years are just as filled with love and laughter as the first 10. And lots of fireworks! And to answer your question, I did manage to get moved in & relatively injury-free. Plus I rewarded myself with the occasional scoop of ice cream or nibble of chocolate. (Hey, Jeff and I run to eat.) These are the small gifts life gives me. :goodvibes

As for me: Well, I know I'm have officially moved into my new digs. I got my first on-street parking ticket for parking on the wrong side of the street, which presumably interfered with street cleaning. Just plain old forgot that it was the 4th Wednesday of the month. My fault, entirely. But what burns my gizzard (who taught me these phrases?) is that they didn't clean the street--and I suspect they won't for quite a while.

In training news, I did my 4 miles. The speed thing isn't coming easily to me, but I've got some time before January training kicks in. Hopefully I'll convince my body that faster gets it the ice cream sooner.

Add my thoughts to the shout-outs. Just a partial list: Ms. Duckie, Steve & Krista & Carter, AmyBeth, Scott, Claire, Ang, Shan and on and on and on. I know it's a down time during the summer. Just know we think about you and  you!

Shout out to everyone, have a great Aloha Friday.

I was stuck in a training seminar all day Thursday. It was just okay.

I rode my bike in/out of work. The hill home seems to be getting easier.

I went for a 6 miler with Guru Les and another buddy Stephen, both left me in their dust. Garmin ran out of battery just short of getting back to the starting point.

We got back for our monthly BBQ. Menu included Italian dressing chicken, grilled salmon, rice, baked beans, boiled peanuts, pickled mango, and Mrs. Fields cookies for dessert. Five of us enjoyed the nice cool evening, and we once again had a hula halau practicing their dance right in front of us. Imagine nice tropical breezes, live Hawaiian music, and pretty hula dancers. Perfect evening I must say. No body mooched this month, yay! :thumbsup2

Up ahead, Princess #1's belated birthday party at the water park on Saturday. All day event with 5 of her girlfriends in tow.

Oh, and friends visiting as well. Busy weekend!

Happy Friday!

Just a quick drive by as it's month end and folks here seem to thing everything is all of a sudden urgent.

Had a great workout last night. An hour of weight and core work followed by 35 min on TM. Did what my trainer has done to me couple of times - start out at comfortable rate then start increasing the incline by 2 every two minutes until you reach 9 then increase by one ever minute until the max (which is 15 on these TMs). Then gradually back it down in twos. Goal is to stay at the pace you originally set then entire time.

I normally keep incline at 1 but after doing these once I get down to 2 feels great and stay there for another 10 min including cool down.

Have a casual 5K this weekend (still trying to figure out when 3 miles became casual....). Taking a friend of ours with for her first 5K. Should be fun.

Have a great day everyone!

Please! Somebody please! Tell me how to make the meetings stop! Alllll week I've been going from one meeting to the next! And nothing - NOTHING - get accomplished! :headache: Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

OK work vent over.

In my continued efforts to pick up my pace I did a speedy 2 miles this morning. I'm not saying how speedy because it's all relative, but speedy for me anyways.:thumbsup2

Looks like I'm doing the "Four on the Fourth" with my race maniac husband Charlie "Karnazes". Already he's looking for a race for the following weekend. WHAT have I done!?!?! :faint:

Debra - Oh you crack me up! :lmao: Draft off Frank? I don't even think I could do that. He'd be done and could drive back and pick me up. Ha ha ha! Sorry about your ticket. That stinks.

Maura- I do replace the standard shoe liner with one that is a bit more supporting. The ones I use are SuperFeet blue. Good luck with the shoe woes.

Debra- I do mostly local races for convenience. I try to do at least one a weekend if there is nothing going on and those get expensive enough without travel. The one fall marathon is only about 1 mile form my house so it is convenient. The other one in Columbus is about 2 hours away and will turn into a weekend trip. I would like to go do one farther but the Italy trip, the upcoming podcast cruise, and the high likelihood that I am doing the 2010 WDW Full means I have to rein in the travel expenses.

This weekend is another double up weekend and the last one for a while. One of the runs is through an arboretum out east which should be a very cool run.

I'm in the process of repeating C25K (It's going really well), I have a 5K next friday in NC while we're on vacation. :cool1: I've bought some pilates DVD's and hope to get started on those after vacation!

We're off to NC after work for a week to visit with DH's family and have a 1st birthday party for DD, who turned 1 on Wednesday!

I am officially in for TOT in October and am going to sign up for a 10K RFTC in early october!

Thanks for the kick in the bootie, Judy ;). yes...TOTAL LTO. I've felt quite like a hamster on a wheel only zooming in to post numbers and occasionally check on some journals. Computer time has been sorely lacking this entire month! Thanks for the wake up call...we forget how others worry about us here. You are so sweet to post that reminder!

I sure hope everyone here is doing ok!?!?! I do try to skim and read...no way I'll be able to sufficiently catch up but I want to make a few shout outs...

Scott...He's alive and well...I know for a fact...but he's also busy and nursing a foot injury right now :(. So to my buddy...here's hoping you heal up fast and get to run the Peach Tree!!!! Vegas planning is coming along great!!! 11 days I believe. :cool1:

Deb...Glad you're in the new digs and glad you had a decent 4 miler. As for pace...I pretty much have completely thrown my pace worries out the window. I now only focus on the "feel" of each run which means sometimes pace is quick and sometimes slow...but a good run is my only indicator of success. If I feel good after...then I'm a happy girl. Thanks for thinking about me btw :). Here's some lovin' right back at ya!

Frank..the arboretum run sounds FUN!!!! Have a great weekend of runs.

Liz...have a great casual 5k :). Sounds like fun to me!

AlohaJeff....YUM...I'm starving and that BBQ sounds heavenly right now! LOL!

Stephanie...Hope you have a great vacation...I'm heading out tomorrow myself with the kids to the beach for a week. YAY!

Tracy...How are ya girl?? Sorry I've been MIA. I am really trying to focus my spin students on HR monitoring so they remain in the fat burn. It's an EXCELLENT training tool. Glad to hear you are utilizing it!!! :thumbsup2

OK...sorry...missed a TON of peeps. I'm just pressed for time. Quick update on me. I got Spin Certified last weekend :goodvibes ....so now I'm officially legit in my spin classes. LOVE THEM! Still teaching a good load of classes per week...now it's mixed between spin and pilates....so it's a nice change for me. Doing three solid runs per week...right now I'm in my 4/4/7 phase of training and it feels REALLY good. I no longer worry about pace but instead go by how I feel to determine if a run was successful. If I need a slow day...so be it :). Turns out I'm in a happy place around that 10 mpm pace...maybe it will drop...maybe not...but I'm no longer trying to be in the 8 mpm range. It just wasn't pretty. The only thing I'm really focusing on during the runs is keeping pace consistent mile to mile....that's really worked well fo rme and I feel like a stronger runner for it! So that's it...BUSY with the kids...my DD10 is on a travel softball team that is winning....so that's taken up a HUGE chunk of my life. I'll try to post more often so you guys don't think that I've fallen off the earth.

Have a great weekend everyone!!!! :sunny:

ok i'm taking Judy and Tracy's advice and have come over to say HELLO WISHERS i'm alive and breathing (and running a bit too :rotfl: ).

I have to admit i don't usually post over here, but might try to pop over next week. That's my new challenge for the week! I managed a 5.2 mile run in my perfect light drizzle conditions. Anyone else find that they run better along busy roads? I refused to stop whilst in view of 'normal' non-running passing traffic! :rotfl2:

So in the 1.635428 minute window I have while the dog scarfs down dinner and then comes back to bug me......

Amy Glad to see you back and congrats on the spin certification--it's the one class I haven't been to at the gym yet--and it is still a very popular class. Every day at 6 am or even 5:45! I suppose now that I am doing some biking (and getting ready to buy a new one), I should add it to the list of XC.

Scott- in absentia Hope your foot injury heals soon.

Debra I have to meet you--and I will buy the G&T AND the ice cream--perhaps we can get a group to go through a Kitchen SInk!

Jeff I do all my training solo--but I think I would be hard pressed to pass up your training group (and dinner!).

As for me I had my video gait analysis today. Really nice guy--great runner. Basically, they video you and then use the film to take some measurements. So he determined that I do not overpronate, but did point out a few things to correct with my stride (like my butt sticks out a little!) I also got a few exercises to strengthen abductors, hip external rotators, glutes, along with some insoles (mostly cushion--a little bit of support) and a foam roller. So now it's time to just work through all this.

Happy weekend everyone--I'm off for all next week--YEah!

Hey all! We all made it safe and sound on the island this afternoon. And immediately the kids were in the pool--glad it's in the yard of the house MIL rented. So, I decided, now's a good a time as any to test my swimming skills. Okay, so found out that a swimmer I am not, but I did get a nice little workout in swimming some laps. That and making sure that two little ones didn't drown. Tomorrow is the beach! Yahoo! I might (stress might) get up early and do a little beach running before lounging the day away. Anyone jealous yet? Okay, everyone is tuckered out, so it's going to be an early night for us! Will check in later in the week.
