View Full Version : Hello from the Liberty of the Seas

Hey Gang!!!
We are onboard the Liberty of the Seas.
Took us about 4 hours to get to Miami from St. Cloud (with several stops along the way). We have checked-in, made our specialty dining reservations (Portofino = Italian Food and Chops = Steakhouse on this ship) - bought our soda package (no free soda like on DCL - $7 per person per day and you get a cool souvenier mug) - ate lunch (mmmmm) and are now hagning out in the stateroom awaiting the lifeboat drill - then our vaca can really begin.
What's nice about this ship is I can get WiFi in the room so I can blog, post, check email and work all from the comfort of our room.
We booked a balcony guarantee stateroom this cruise and wound up with a superior balcony room forward. We usually like to travel aft but we will see how we like this location.
I hope to get a blog up tonight with picures of our stateroom - that's if I'm not in the Casino.
That's it for now.
John

Lucky you!! I am at home while my ds & his friends are playing in his room. My home is too small for his 3 friends & him & the rest of my family.
Looking foward to the pictures (if I can't be there in person then pictures are 2nd best) If you could try & get some of your view fromyour balcony. thanks.
ps-how did your granite counter go? I'm guessing it's finished if your are vacationing.

Hope you guys have a fabulous time! I don't know what an "aft" is, but I hope you don't miss staying there too much.
And John, if Kevin is going to tell all the annoying souvenir sellers that you are the one with all the money, I think you should make him several spa appointments that he must keep. :teeth:
And hey, did you hear the rumor? I think someone said Rex started driving to Miami yesterday afternoon....Could it be? :scratchin ..... :rotfl:
I am so glad you posted!! After reading about your upcoming cruise DH started researching the ship and has decided we should give it a try!!
Crazy thing is, doesn't matter what I (a seasoned traveller and somewhat of a self proclaimed expert) say. It has no merit until he hears it from one of you guys!!
So if you don't mind....could your next trip be Hawaii? You see I really want to go, and unless you and Kevin or Pete or Julie go and talk all about it on the disboards or the podcast, Dh will not consider it!
But seriously, she looks like a fabulous ship. Have a great cruise and I look forward to hearing all about it!!

Hey guys have a great trip. Try not to lose too much money in the casino though. :) Kevin try to keep John from working so hard. ;) I know probably not an easy task right? Esp. with wifi in the room. ::yes:: Sorry that we keep missing you on chatzy Kevin. Tammy or I are usually always there but she is in Disney World right now as you know and I have been trying to spend some time with my dh and son.:rotfl: They are feeling a bit left out since I started chatting. :)
Have fun,

Awesome!! I sailed Freedom of the Seas (Liberty's sister ship) in Sept 2006, and my family and I just fell in love with the ship! I know that you are going to have a great time. Thanks for letting us live vicariously through you. But don't spend too much time in your cabin on the computer; get out there and enjoy yourself! (BTW, the cantilevered hot tubs are a great place to relax at night.)

NO, NO, NO!!! If John wants to blog while cruising, let him blog! I'm dying to hear all about this cruise! We have only sailed Disney (3x - all on the Magic) but have the Freedom of the Seas booked for this October. I'd love to hear how John and Kevin compare the two cruises, particularly your opinion on Labadee vs Castaway Cay.
Will we be getting a dining review on Portofino's?
Oh, I hope so!!! I know it won't be a "working dinner" so therefore not a regular review, but I so hope to get a review of the specialty restaurants.
Seriously though, I hope you both have a wonderful time on your cruise and enjoy every moment. Don't forget the pictures!!!

oooh, oooooh!! I want to hear all about this cruise too!
We love DCL but can see the day when we branch out to RCCL.
Hey, would you guys consider giving a trip report interview to Jamie and Veronica "crowncast dot org?" They host a weekly (unofficial) podcast about Royal Caribbean Cruiseline. They are huge WDW fans too and would probably LOVE to hear your experience on RCCL.
I suspect you'll cover it some on the DIS podcast, but maybe you could go further in depth with hosts and an audience of RCCL fans.
In the meantime, have the best vacation!!! :beach:

Hi folks,
It's 11:51pm and I feel like we have been up for days. Didnt sleep well last night and nowing we had to be up early only made it worse.
We didnt drive the convertible. The other car just has more room and it's HOT today. We drove down in comfort.
The ship is beautiful. We are noticing small differences between the Liberty and the Freedom.
We have a verandah stateroom on the port side forward. As we were pulling out of port this afternoon, we could look straight up South Beach. Talk about beautiful blue water....
We wandered around a bit and made reservations for the specialty restaurants.
Our life boat drill was TOUGH :rotfl:. Our meeting place was in the airconditioned night club. We sat in comfy overstuffed chairs, while others sweltered in the sun.
Dinner consisted of pizza and antipasto from the Promenade Pizzaria. It was delicious.
After that we went to the Casino. There are LOTS of 18 and 19 year olds on the ship. We taught two of them how to play Three Card Poker. While I sat and lost my shirt, he won about $600.
It's late and I'm ready to fall asleep.
Tomorrow is a "sea day" and I'm looking forward to being a slug.
More details tomorrow.
Night!

I feel sorry for y'all not going to be able to see today's NASCAR race---this week's race has both left and right turns...translation-> road course. One of the TNT tv announcers called it "Dancing with the Stars...only with cars". There is a lot of footwork in today's big race in Sonoma, CA. :cool2: The very cute Kasey Kahne, #9, is at the pole.

Okay, I am trying to imagine a shirtless Kevin (I have met him btw) sitting in the Casino teaching 18 year olds how to gamble. :rotfl2:
Kevin, my wife Kim sat down at a three card table for the first time about one year ago and won $500 in the first three hands. Everyone was glaring at her. :lmao:
Anyway, have fun a your first day at sea. I am always lazy on that first day at sea having stayed up late the night before partying. :cool1:
I think we saw the movie 'Ray' about five times in our room during that first day at sea. :lmao:

According to their website, Chops is $25pp and Porofino's is "$20-$25"pp (I guess it depends on the ship).
Johnny Rockets is $3.95 pp, including gratuities. Soda, bottled water and milk shakes are offered at current menu prices.
As far as Ben & Jerry's goes, it isn't a service charge. "All ice-cream concoctions are offered at current menu prices." (according to their website)
It seems like RCCL has a lot of places that have extra charges (see above, plus having to buy the soda package if you drink soda) but over all, Disney's prices tend to be higher. But if you check out the Dis cruise boards, you'll find out most people here think you get what you pay for ;).

It POURED all day in San Juan. We are talking biblical rain. Our souvenier from San Juan was two umbrellas.

Curiousity got the better of me and I looked up Chocolate Diamonds...don't know that they would be too good of an investment.
================================================== ======
It's funny how until very recently, diamonds of considerably lower colors with brownish hues and yellowish overtones, were simply known as "low color diamonds".
Lower colored diamonds, are not as scarce or valuable as diamonds of icy white colors and therefore command less of a premium than the diamonds of higher (better) color grades.
Problem was, certain diamond mines tended to only produce diamonds of substantially lower colors. Well these are diamonds too and they needed to be sold..right? Well, of course!
Some brilliant marketing guru came up with an incredible idea; why not market these diamonds with finesse! Indeed, why not turn the very liability of the stone into something positive?
Thus, was born the marketing strategy known as "chocolate diamonds," "cognac diamonds," and/or "champagne diamonds".
================================================== ======
They have a topaz sort of look.

Last night I was watching the shopping show and I'm pretty sure I need something called chocolate diamonds and apparently EVERYONE in the world needs something called Tanzanite. I'm told that by the year 2030, the world will run out of Tanzanite.
I might have to stock up.
Ok....John is finally ready and we're off.
Tanzanite is a beautiful stone!!
I have quite a few pieces of it.. including my engagement ring is tanzanite and diamonds.. absolutely beautiful!!

 I soooooo want to go on a cruise!!!!!! DH has it in his little brain that it wouldn't be fun. Maybe if I continue to stomp my feet he'll give in.
Sidenote: Maybe I should hint to DH that I want some Tanzanite since it is a December birthstone and I am a December baby. :)

So now Tanzanite is a December birthstone. When I was a child, it was Blue Zircon, which was a pretty green/blue/aqua color. Lately, I've seen Blue Topaz being called the December birthstone, and now Tanzanite???? They change it all the time. Well I do have some Tanzanite, so I guess I'm all set. :rotfl:

We went to Orient Beach on our cruise in April and my DD10 made sure to point out every topless women she noticed, and then commented that it was really gross to see topless women while trying to eat lunch. But the beach was beautiful and we had a great time.

Curiousity got the better of me and I looked up Chocolate Diamonds...don't know that they would be too good of an investment.
================================================== ======
================================================== ======
They have a topaz sort of look.

Tanzanite on the other hand! I LOVE it! Such a pretty color. I have
a pair of Tanzanite earrings.I have to say...that ring is quite stunning! Maybe I do need a chocolate diamond after all! ;)
John and Kevin, could you add that to your list of souvenirs for me? I'll send you my address... :rotfl:
