I never knew that they decorated this ride for Christmas! Wow. I haven't been to DL for Christmas since, well, the late '80s? Yikes!
Maybe next Christmas trip to CA we'll have to visit. Nice pic!

I will stay on the Sleeping Beauty theme...I have seen a few shots like the below angle, I specifically remember Nostalgic Dads shot which inspired this one.

Alright, I'm finally making some progress on uploading my recent shots. This area is always tough to get a decent shot since it's so dark and there's at least 1 or 2 folks standing here. This was a 40 second exposure and I barely managed to get it before someone walked up again.

I have a couple of these at different times of the year, because the architecture simply fascinates me for some reason. I'll have to upload the one I took at sunset last year. The compostion was better and the color was amazing.

Now, this photos isn't very good. I knew that the reflection from Main Street would obscure most of the window display, but I had to try - ya know?
What I think is so funny about this pic is that it is a double self portrait! First, you see my larger reflection in the window glass, but then if you look closely, I'm perfectly framed in the mirror in the display!
Well, at least I thought it was funny! :lmao:

I love your photos and Danny's and Robert's, too - I know I'm leaving a whole bunch of folks out! You guys all make me want to run out and upgrade my measely Sony to a really nice digital SLR. (I also feel bad for my AE1 and the 3 other non-digitals sitting in their bags in the closet like red-headed step children!)
I think your shot is very cool. I almost feel as if I'm about to play the Disneyland Uno game, but since we actually have one with a similar theme....
This was taken back in December of 2005 - our oldest again - on my shoulders as we were leaving DL Baby Care. If you have ever been in the waiting area, they have a Victorian wall grouping of photos and mirrors.

That is a great self portrait. I really like it.
In the morning the sun shines right into this side of the street, and there is a lot of reflection, so I tried at night to take the picture in hopes that the refelection would be less... hummmm....maybe late afternoon would be better?. :confused3

I would've loved to have been on Main Street at a different time to get better photos, but I counted my self lucky to have gotten at least that!!! My family takes on commando mode when we enter the park, so unless I settle for splitting up with them to take photos, I have to catch what I can when I can. Most of my pics have been taken on the run ... literally!
But thanks for posting the photo so I can see what it really looked like! :rotfl2:

Ever since I've been posting pics on the "Details" thread on the WDW boards I've been noticing detail stuff from around the parks. And I noticed something very interesting at DCA Here's a fish from King Triton's Carousel (I only have a detail of it) ...
http://quiltymom.smugmug.com/photos/342184964_RQZFC-L.jpg
And a tile from the bathroom over near Golden Dreams ...
http://quiltymom.smugmug.com/photos/342176640_mSpdr-L.jpg
If it wasn't for the fact that DD & I rode Triton's Carousel in 6 times in a row (with the CMs blessing!) while waiting for DS & DH to get off of Screamin', I would've never noticed this. I only took this one pic of the tiles because people were looking at me like I was v-e-r-y strange when I took this one! :lmao: But all of the tiles were the fish on the carousel!

I'm curious when the last time this area was actually used. Based on the amount of dust on the covers, it's been a while. But, I love the music being played here and it's quite spooky since no one's around. Well, at least no one we can actually "see"! :tiptoe:

That is a really cool shot, Danny - don't worry - those covers will come flying off at the end of September when they reopen for Haunted Mansion Holiday! That's really the only time they ever seem to need them! Those FPs get snapped up by 1pm on a slow day! The 3 hours waits at Christmas are a killer!

How do I miss these things? I have never noticed the owl or the dancing Aurora and Prince statue. I have been so many times I thought I knew the park so well, maybe I have tunnel vision and always head to the same places and such? Well the next trip I am devoting to things like that.

I've always been into the details - it helped that my first real trip to WDW was at age 23 (with an interest in art and architecture) and I didn't get to DL as an adult until age 32 (after being fully entrenched in Disney at that point).
One way to do it is to have a visit where you do nothing but wander around and sit on benches and look at the scenery - I know I'm talking crazy, but force yourself to slow down and not do rides. Read the captions on the photos on the walls! When you go as often as we do, we get a lot of quiet time in the parks. When we went to WDW last year with the kids, I think we maybe did a total of 20 attractions in the whole week we were there....
We simply don't rush - and really can't sometimes, with diapers and the fact that my girls always have napped in the stroller. We've also taken it at a pace that we aren't concerned with baby swapping rides (although we've done it a few times lately since Z doesn't nap anymore and is old enough to ride things with Daddy while I sit). That is how my husband really has learned to love the place. He wasn't into it at all when we had our first date there, but once I starterd showing him the little things, he really grew to appreciate it fully.
I just wish that I had started photographing some of the little details during those periods. The folks on these threads gave me the little green bug of envy, so now I've decided it's time to catch up with them!

It almost looks like you took that photo from a parked car while driving down the street in one of the nice parts of town in New Orleans! It really has that "I'm driving down the street looking at houses to buy" feel! That's really impressive to do with a crowded place like that area of the park is!
Wow.

I don't know about Danny's, but mine is ISO6400. It seems like the D300 does okay at ISO6400 as long as the exposure is correct to begin with. I shot mine in RAW and did an auto WB to get the colors. I usually click the auto WB to see if it looks good - half the time it does - but sometimes I need to make adjustments.
BTW I like Danny's pic better. It's closer up which shows more detail on Captain Jack. I'm guessing he shot his with a 50mm lens?

Thanks! Yeah, all that's missing is the "For Sale" sign in the front lawn. ;) I shot this at 10mm so it does give a little bit different perspective.

ISO was 3200 at f/1.8 resulting in a 1/25 shutter speed. I also shot this RAW/Auto WB and adjusted the WB like Joe did afterwards. He's right about the characteristics of the D300's noise at high ISO levels. Any increase in exposure during PP will definitely increase the noise level. And, he's right again......I was using the nifty 50. ;)

It was a while ago, but my recollection is that it was outdoors - maybe you'd call it a permanent kiosk - in Downtown Disney. I assume that the reason all those items were displayed was because they were for sale.

The owl is over by Snow White's wishing well to just the right of the Castle (as you enter from the hub). If it wasn't for my kids having fun with the wishing well, I wouldn't have spent time taking pics in the area. And yes, you do just have to slow down and look - which is hard to do if you're touring the park commando style! (This advice is coming from a commando family! :goodvibes )

It almost sort of looked like a centerpiece for decoration among the other items - that is why I wasn't sure if it was for sale. I will have to wander around DTD and look for it. If I am not mistaken, I think there is some sort of crystal place in DTD. Maybe that is where Partners was, in a kiosk outside of the shop. Thanks!

Thanks for posting that for me, Perlster! I just caught it this very second. Yes, you are right, it absolutley is not a centerpiece here. I wonder if they are/were charging $500 for it or some outrageous thing. I like the regular old bronze Partners you can buy in the Disneyana shop for $100 or whatever because it looks most like the real statue. But this white one is very interesting. If it were less money than the other Partners bronze version, I might buy it. But just because it is white, they would probably charge a small fortune!

Was it expensive, Mikayla? I mean, everything in DL is expensive but any more so than usual? It may not even still be there when I go in October. Merchandise tends to disappear! Do you remember where in DTD the kiosk is? I want to get the Partners sculpture to set next to my "Mickey Self-Portait" and "Mickey the Thinker" sculptures.
Also, I have always loved Thomas Kinkade's stuff. He also has a series of prints that he did on Catalina Island, my other favorite place!! Did he do something special for Disney's 50th that I have not seen? I have not heard of it. But since he loves California, I would imagine he would do lots of Disney stuff, though maybe focusing on a different aspect of Disney than the touristy aspect.

That shop is operated by Arribas Bros, so they have a variety of things that you can and can't get in their "in-park" shops. Kind of like the one in DTD at WDW.

It is from the Arribas Brothers collection, like YellowMickeyPoncho's said. I have seen it in a couple of places. The one I bought was from kiosk in DTD, it was pretty close to the entrance to the DLH because I ran down there from my room and it didn't take very long. I think it was around $125.
Yes - there's a special 50th Anniversary one. It's of the castle and partners statue. Very nice. There is also a Snow White one. It's her in the woods coming up on a cottage. It was beautiful. I think he was going to be at DL this week for the release to do signing and meet n' greet. You'll probably see it if you do a google search for it.

Thanks CAbryan! No post processing on that shot. However, I was a bit surprised when I noticed it as well. It was a 47 second exposure and with the green tree next to the gray peak, my assumption is that the light casts that green hue on the sensor's photocells. Also, if you were to see a 100% crop of the peak, it's a bit overexposed causing the colors to wash out. I took another shot at 26 seconds and it exposed correctly but the rest of the frame was a bit dark. Although, the stars didn't trail much at all.
Here is the 26 second exposure first. 2nd is the same shot with a white balance adjustment and a 100% crop. Much better color I think.

During our last trip, I was looking for different perspectives for fireworks shots. This is from the bench right next to the Westward Ho wagon. Not the best, but doable.

Joe....nice location and shot. Looks like you might have set up right outside of Star Traders? This was shot on the day we left a couple of weeks ago. I tried a couple of locations but not this one. I like it. Did you find it difficult to set up a tripod with all the folks walking around that area? The geo-tagging is also really cool. If you get a chance, PM me and tell me which gps you're using on the D300. :thumbsup2

Thanks all for your kind words on the fireworks shot :goodvibes Danny - yeah, I was sitting at one of the patio tables outside the pizza restaurant there (Redd Rockett's Pizza Port?). Mostly it was just people passing by, not in the frame long enough to really ruin the shot. Only a couple shots did people stop RIGHT in front of the camera for a few moments. All in all it was pretty sucessful and not crowded back there at all. My geo-tagging method is not technical at all. I just tag them by memory on google maps VIA a bookmarklet within Flickr. So they're not always exact, but usually pretty darn close.

DigiScrapping is Digital Scrapbooking. It's very addicting! You can check out what we're doing over on the Scrapbooking Forum (http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=123). Here's a link to pages that have been made (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1369373), and although this thread is for the digi-scrapping challenge hosts, it also lists the past and current challenges (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1913828)in the first post. I love how you can get so many different perspectives of the castle. This one is simple enough but I liked the shadows and lighting by the sun.

Awesome shot Danny!

Here's mine for today:
This shot really is all about timing - as the "lightning" flash is really fast, and when there is no "lightning", the scene is literally pitch black. I'm shocked that my camera was actually able to auto focus in this extremely short time frame, but it pulled it off! ...love that camera :^)

I have a sculpture of the Helmsman sitting on my desk. GREAT PHOTO.
