Okay, put on your thinking caps....If you could design another themed resort at WDW, what would it be like? Deluxe, mod, or value? Location? Give details (pool, play areas, food court, etc...)

I'd like to see another monorail resort....I guess it would have to be a deluxe...not really sure about the theming though...what's left?

I'm looking forward to reading what everyone thinks...great question.

I agree with DisneyLisa.. I would like to see another monorail resort...but with an Ancient Egypt theme including the pyramids as the main building. They could really work that theme.....

An Italian DVC resort. Venice like. We could take gondolas to our rooms.....well maybe that wouldn't be practical, but it could still be cool.

Those are both good ideas...any more out there?

I once heard tell of a proposed moderate called "Disney's Prairie Plains Resort" It obviously would have had an agricultural theme, with barns, tractors, silos, farmhouse style dwellings....and plenty of gingham I'm sure.

I'm not certain if the rumor was true, but I might have enjoyed staying there.

Definately a Monorail resort, a deluxe of course. Put it on the way from the Magic Kingdom to Epcot, in all that open space. This time make it a space them. everything themed to outer space....pools and everything... what a perfect thing on the way to Epcot !

I'd like a resort that would allow people to keep pets in their rooms, with areas for walking pets and a kennel that either walked the pets or had indoor/outdoor runs. I don't care about the theme. I guess it could be a part of any resort. A moderate would be best, so that lots of people could afford it. There could be rooms that would never be allowed to house a pet so that people with allergies could stay there.

I know pets are allowed at FW, but we have a pop-up, and they don't let you leave your pets inside soft-sided RVs while you're in the parks. I'm not sure why, since my dog would be just as happy in his crate in my pop-up as in a crate at the kennel. . .

Another Deluxe Animal Kingdom Area Reaort could use an Australian Theme. Call it Disney's Outback. It could feature "outback" view rooms, with Kangaroos and the like roaming its surroundings. The pool would be called the Reef, and could be themed like a cross between Shark Reef and Stormalong Bay. But instead of swimming with the sharks, there could be a meandring pool that borders a large Aquarium with some small sharks and other sea creatures. There would be a large window from the pool into the aquarium to give you the impression that you were "swimming with the sharks." This aquarium could be situated over a restaurant that would feature Steakhouse cuisine under a spectacular view. Another, more elegant restaurant might feature Aborigini <sp> cuisine. The hotel could also have a kid's club that featured the characters form "The Rescuer's Down Under. " Something that would not need to be unique to this resort would be deluxe accomodations that sleep 6. Finally, the resort should feature a kind of transportation that has been retired from disney resorts--a train. The train could make a loop from the Outback resort, to AKL, to AK, and then to the TTC. There could also be an express train on a seperate track that made the trip from AK to the TTC and back. If I can't have my monorail, a train will have to do (Anything but those busses!)

How about a new moderate resort with a Middle Ages theme.

You would enter the resort by driving over a large drawbridge over a moat. Maybe there's a high stone wall the separates the resort from the road.

The main building could be a small castle, not a fancy one so it doesn't overpower Cinderella's castle. The food court could be set up like a medieval fair. The sit down restaurants would also be in the castle. Everyone would be dressed in the costumes of the middle ages.

The buildings where you stay could have two themes. One section could be like a small village with coblestone streets, and stone buildings. The other section could be rolling pastures with small cottages with thatched roofs.

The main pool could be themed like a fort with walls surrounding the pool area.

The moat could meander through the resort with stone bridges crossing over it here and there. Maybe it goes through the village. (this gives the opportunity to sell water view rooms).

The characters used at the resort could be from the animated Robin Hood. They could be on the refillable mugs, maybe in the rooms. The gift shop could sell medieval clothes. There could be suits of armor around the resort.

You know how AKL is positioned between the moderates and the deluxes, price-wise? I'd design a resort between the value and the moderate level called "Princesses and Villains."

A deluxe with an Asian theme, and some rooms specifically designed for the Japanese visitor, including Japanese style bathrooms (I think I'd draw the line at the Japanese style toilet though).

I's also consider developing a resort that sleeps five people via two doubles and a day bed and would have the nightly rate of a moderate. That would take care of the people that want to sleep five that can't fit in a trundle, and don't want to pay for two rooms. The rooms could be the size of the moderate rooms with the amenities of the value resorts.

I would love to do a mixed resort that had some deluxe rooms and moderate. I know Disney wouldn't do this as it would mess with their class system but I imagine it anyway.
Picture a resort done up like Belle's and Pinocchio's villages. Winding cobbled streets of two and three story buildings. the streets wouldn't be flat but meander up and down here and there with quaint stairways (and ramps) between some buildings, leading up to other streets It wouldn't look like POFQ where everything is uniform. It would be buildings with vaired facades, some sticking out with porches and balconies, others without. (For those who have been to IOA it would be like the Port of Entry). Different sized windows and doorways. Rooms would be of varying sizes and not just square shoebox shaped rooms. They would have odd layots and angles and such. Some of the rooms would be entered from the street, others from interior hallways. The pathways and buildings would dwindle toward the back where and expansive forest would be and hidden in the forrest would be buildings of four to six suites per building designed like Snow Whites and Sleeping beauties cottages. The trees would be tall and the forrest a bit dark. The Thatched roof buildings would be isolated from eachother with rocky outcroppings and steams and creaks babbling through the area. These of course would be expensvie suites.

...all these great ideas. How about one that is located adjacent to Blizzard Beach, with a twist on the "snow", like an Alpine theme? You know, Swiss chalets, yodellers, fake snow, and the food court would feature German sauerbraten and bratwurst, with oom-pah music....Just a thought..... :)

Or, maybe one from Ancient Greece, with the Parthenon, Friday night Toga Parties, and the pool area to look like Mt. Olympus!!! Theming could also include the cast of Hercules...!!!!

Any more ideas....?!?!?!?

Disney Atlantis Resort ....

Aquarian theme with enough futuristic technologies to allow the Monorail. Lake-based would be nice so we could catch a boat or SUBMARINE to EPCOT/MK!

Since Atlantis was supposively the mother of all cultures, the Greece, Asian, Egyptian and even outer space themes could be incorporated in the design.

I like the idea of a "Space" resort on the monorail near Epcot. :) That would be cool.

I doubt they would ever do Atlantis or a Venetian since those already exists (in Vegas and in the Caribbean)

What about an "International" resort near Epcot? They could design rooms that have each of the Epcot countries represented. Probably would need to be a deluxe resort. Every time you checked in you could stay in a different country..... Italy, Germany, Mexico, Japan, etc.

I think many would pay to stay at any of these. I think my favorite is a Cinderella/Pinocchio/Belle village theme where people get to stay in the castle. Based on the popularity of CRT ressies, I think people would jump at staying there.

:)

I don't have an elaborte idea, but how about World Showcase type of resort? One area could be themed like Venice, Italy. Another area could be like the Austrailian Outback.........with animals, of course. There could be an Asian section. Of course, there would have to be an American setting too. I'm not sure which category this would fall under, probably a deluxe. It would definitely be a resort that you would want to come back to over and over, since all of the sections are different......as long as the people who design it do it right.

Each section'd be a different "bad guy" Ursula, Malevolent(??), Cruella, etc.....

1. Monorail Resort
2. AKL/WL price point (lower level deluxe)
3. Railfan theme -- Lot's of trains, rooms like luxury rail cars, conductor uniforms, maybe a rail museum....

Love everyone else's ideas -- especially the outback and outer space....

Good ideas everyone!!! I really like Bracho's idea....that was pretty much mine too. Having an Ancient Pyramid where the monarail goes throughout it would be awesome! This could be a an Epcot resort where the monarail passes through. Fun question!!!

What great ideas!!

How about an exclusive resort located in Bay Lake on what was Discovery Island? It could be based on a Swiss Family Robinson theme with treehouses. Or it could for rustic tent camping (on elevated platforms) as long as they keep the snack bars and bathrooms. Then they should open River Country back up to provide activities. I'd go.

Okay, before I say this, I had a great time at WDW with my grandchildren, so I have nothing against kids, but how about an "adults only" resort?

A kid at heart
04-12-2002, 08:42 PM
I like the idea of the swiss themed resort to go with blizzard beach!
I also like the idea of the atlantis one!
What about something from snow white or a princess themed resort? the main bldg could be a castle and the other bldgs could be cottages of some sort. they could take something from each princess themed movie and have a diamond mine play area, a "library" area for belle, etc.

kimmar067
04-13-2002, 02:40 PM
...could be set up with a "touch tank" and an area to feed Dolphins!! Definitely a deluxe, I think, with the monorail going through it. Perhaps, located on the monorail track on the way from Magic Kingdom to Epcot.....! (and while I think about it, WDW should consider an update on "The Living Seas"....)

A couple peolpe have mentioned adult only resorts. What about a casino? It could be located close to downtown Disney. And it could be a Alice in Wonderland theme with the Queen of Hearts and all of her soldiers. I know Disney is a family place but some time us adults like to have to a little fun by ourselves once in a while.

Okay, this will sound wacky, but follow my thinking....

How about a resort priced like a moderate, but had the ameneties of the value resorts (no huge swimming themed pool, no sit down restuarant, no room service) ON the monorail. I bet it would stay PACKED! Then, when there is not space there people would then try out the other monrail resorts if they could afford it. I think it would be a great selling tool. They may not have to even offer discounts.

Theme? Villains, Pyramids, 100-Acre Woods, space,

I like Villains because then they might bring the villain character dinner back.

I would love to see a hundred acre wood resort, With Pooh being so popular I think it would be a great hit. I would do it as a smaller quieter moderate ala POFQ that catered heavily to families.

A nice wooded area with a stream and Pooh sticks bridge where kids could actually play Pooh sticks. The main reservation house at the entrance could look like a giant tree like Pooh lives in and there could be another that looked like Eeyores house of sticks where you could have donkey rides. The actual hotels could be roughly the same size at the POFQ but be made to look like giant thatched cottages or tudor style homes. Also make one of the homes where there would be rooms that would have 2 Queens and a sleeper sofa so that atleast 5-6 people could fit and several more connecting rooms so that it would cater to larger families.
A restaurant named Kanga's Kitchen for basic wholesome meals big thick pancakes for breakfast, meatloaf pot roast for dinner. Maybe a snack bar called Pigglets Pantry. They could serve all sorts of honey cakes and thistle juice, acorn muffins etc...

I would like to see a tree house library/entertainment center to look like Owls house where kids could go for movies in the evenings, and story time during the day when people come back to the resorts for afternoon breaks. Maybe even incorporate some sort of day care service so parents could leave their kids so they could have some adult time.

Gopher holes (tunnel system) for kids to crawl through and explore. An a giant Tigger pool, where his curled tail would be the water slide and Roos tail could be a diving board. I would like to also see a garden area for Rabbit maybe even let kids plant some veggies. Kids love to get dirty. :D

I would make the golf carts shaped like the honey pots on the pooh ride and have the Cast Members wear the yellow shirts and blue shorts of Christopher Robin. Maybe even a tram system to help with luggage and transportation to look like mini double decker buses, red of course ;)

Anyway I think another moderate that feels more intimate but also more family orientated than POFQ is in order. I think with Pooh being more popular than ever it would be great. But I also know that Disney is only leasing the rights to Pooh so i doubt it will happen but I would love to see it! i would also offer my Eeyore collection up for view if they offered to house it as with over 700 items i am running out of room:cool:

But especially loved the village Belle/Pinnochio one, I can just picture Carmel, CA and how cute and fun that would be. I also liked the Australian one, and the train idea is too cool.

I would suggest something based on Aladdin, with and Eastern theme. Food is obvious, the pool would have elaborate tile work patterns, and the architecture! How fun! And seems different than anything else they have going. The decor would be lots of bright colored pillows and jewels on the walls. The Food Court would be a bazaar theme.

Also something with a Wild West, cowboy theme. BBQ, ghost town playground, you can picture the decor, and the main building could look like a huge covered wagon. The pool would be the Swimming Hole, with a rope swing. They could offer hayrides at night. Maybe this is too close to WL and FW though. Maybe it could be located near them in that are.

I can also picture a Hollywood themed reosrt near the Studios. Big red carpet to the front door, Art Deco decor, each section of the resort could be a different classic movie, Casablanca, The Godfather, Titanic, etc. The Front Desk would look like a series of award program acceptance podiums, the retaurant would be Polo Lounge-ish, and the pool would look like the one at Hearst Castle. Stylized palm trees everywhere, lots of gold and glitz, and limorides could be arranged as a tour around the property.

This was fun! Good ideas everyone!

...AWESOME IDEA!!!! I can see you have really given this alot of thought...Maybe send an e-mail to WDW with your idea...?!?!?!?!
I also love the Hollywood glitz idea. It would really be fun to be treated like a movie star for a day (the limo rides were a GREAT idea!!!) This themed resort sounds like a spin-off from MGM's "The Great Movie Ride"...coooolll!!!!!

I wolkd like to see a moderate that could accomodate 5 in most of the rooms. I wouldn't really care what the theming is but they should offer more options to families of 5.

To Build on what some one else said perhaps a value resort done like different countries for EPCOT. You could do 4 sections Asia, Europe, Africa and South America. Then Each Building could have wings be a seperate Country. So you could stay at Asia in the Japan section and next time stay at South America -Brazil. I think it would be great to offer another value resort that doesn't look like they furnished it at Walmart ala Pop century. I think it would also build intrest in WS at Epcot which so many people view as not kid orientated.

Doing it by continent and then country would make the theming very easy to accomplish and could be done simply through the use of color, landscaping and architechture. Maybe even pick one charachter from the movie to be the mascot for each wing Mulan for China, Belle for France etc.

You could also use the same people that staff WS to work in the hotels for their respective continent as well. Each CM could dress according to their region.

A great big food court could offer food from all of the regions. For pools you could pick one country to highlight of in the buildings. Perhaps Egypt/nile/pyramids for Africa, French Riviera (quiet pool) for Europe A kid poool Greek themed with statues from Hercules. For South America an Amozon themed pool with lots of veggitation and perhaps a giant anaconda water slide. And I would love to see a pool for Asia done like Monkey city from Jungle book.

Anyway I could go on and on again:D Can you tell i want to be an imagineer?

kimmar067
04-14-2002, 10:25 AM
...but I think the reason WDW does not have a theme like this is because they have to get the permission of that country. Did you ever notice that only certain countries are represented at World Showcase (it is because of this very same reason....) Has anyone else heard about this? About 3 years ago, WDW was trying to expand WS with Greece but their gov't would not allow it. I don't understand why WDW would need permission, but it kinda makes sense....anyone else care to elaborate???

And, while we are on the subject of WS, what country would you like added to it???

sha_lyn
04-14-2002, 10:41 AM
About WS ... Disney doesn't build the "countries" the country leases the land and must get aproval for what attraction they will put there.
Personally Greece sounds good to me (I think Greece didn't want ot spend the money WDW now requires. All the new WS countries must have an "e ticket" attraction).

I don't think Disney would need permission to theme a resort based on country or culture.

I love the Hollywood Idea. I'm thinking something along the lines of the Hard Rock Hotel but instead of music the theme would be "old Hollywood".

materialgirl8558
04-14-2002, 02:34 PM
Yeah i definately agree with the Old Hollywood" theme. They could make the elevators with the gates in front and theme it similar to how the "Tower of Terror Hotel" looks minus the creepy ness and cob webs.

One thing I'm finding in common about a lot of the themes you all are mentioning is Las Vegas. (ok, well maybe not Pooh or Villains, lol :) )
Egyptian, Middle Ages/Camelot, Italian, Aladdin, Hollywood/movies, etc...... I looooooovvve going to look at all the different places in Vegas!
So what I think Disney should have, is a Las Vegas styled resort! ;) Someone else mentioned a casino, that would be really cool. Somehow, wouldn't be the same for me as gambling in Vegas. LOL

Kim&Chris
04-17-2002, 10:28 AM
I'd love to see a resort dedicated to the man himself, Walt Disney.

Maybe they could devote portions of the resort to things that only the adults would appreciate. You know......like memorobilia from Walt's childhood, as well as early Mousketeer stuff. His early cartoon drawings, and the original plans for WDW. Areas where we could reflect on his accomplishments, and remember how wonderful we felt while watching the Wonderful World of Disney!

They could put a lovely restaurant there, and adults could enjoy a quiet, peaceful meal. Maybe several pools (ie CBR) with lots of longechairs, and a wait staff to bring your drinks :D directly to you.

Just an idea!!

I would tie the new resort in with what ever the next theme park. A friend of mine who is a CM said they have 4 planned theme parks to go in the future, no one knows what they are. I think they need a park to compete with Sea world. They could do an undersea theme whare all rooms look out into a giant tank, kind of like AKL looks out on to the serengeti. You would fell like your under the sea as fish, sharks, maybe even dolphins swim by your window. I could see the lobby having touch tanks for the kids, and it would lend itself to all kinds of educational classes and sessions which disney loves to do. Maybe even anterring the resort you have to submerge, like in Living seas, and the rooftop could have a beach and pool so that you could head up to "the surface" for some sun. This would certainly have to be a deluxe resort due to the price!

kimmar067
04-18-2002, 08:22 AM
Excellent idea!!! (I'd stay there....) You are correct...Disney does need to compete w/SeaWorld, and "The Living Seas" doesn't cut it......(perhaps a "Little Mermaid" theme???)

Alot of great ideas on here. I love ancient Egypt, Greece & Medieval ideas. The probably wouldn't do an Egyptian or Medieval hotel though because of the Luxor & Excalibur in Vegas.

Someone suggested a prarie theme. They already have some western themed hotels at Disneyland Paris. They look pretty neat. They are the Davy Crocker Ranch, Hotel Santa Fe, Hotel Cheyenne, and Sequoia Lodge.
Disneyland Paris (http://www.disneylandparis.com/uk/introduction.htm?anim=oui)

Tokyo Disney has Hotel Miracosta which has an Italian theme. The Disney Ambassador Hotel has an Art Deco theme (1920's & '30's Hollywood according to their website).

Ambassador Hotel (http://www.disneyambassadorhotel.com/index_e.html)
Hotel Miracosta (http://www.hotelmiracosta.com/index_e.html)

I just wanted to mention these so those who are interested can see how Disney has done these themes.

I'd like to see some loops added in Ft Wilderness with rustic cabins. The cabins would have cots & bunk beds, water/electric service, ceiling fan, outside cooking area on a porch with a picnic table. You'd still use a comfort station.

I like the idea about a resort devoted to Walt Disney. I feel sometimes he gets lost with all of the characters at the parks and resorts. Side note to Kermit: How nice you were to mention people with allergies. Just recently I tried to make reservations at a hotel in my hometown (Reading,PA) and was told they allow small pets and have no "no pets" rooms. I was very disappointed as that hotel has an indoor pool and seemed very nice from the outside. It made feel good to realize someone thought about the other people who can't be around dogs and cats.

WOW! What a group of Imagineers!

Everyone has such great ideas but I especially love the Outback one with the Rescuers Down Under kid's club! Trains or trams are a must for a new resort, breathe some life into the transportaion dept. I would definitely want a moderate to low level deluxe as was mentioned. Also, the aquarium type with Little Mermaid theme would be wonderful. I think some larger 5-6 person rooms are necessary too. The International idea would be good too especially if it garnered some interest in WS. Epcot is our favorite park for that very reason. Some countries I would like to see represented are Australia(love that Outback theme!), Egypt or Greece/Mediterranean and Switzerland(back to the alps theme!). I definitely think an Oriental themed resort would be an asset, especially for the great food! Of course, I haven't been able to come up with an origianl idea myself but I can't wait to see one of these ideas is put into action!

I'm not sure that Florida law allows casino's. At any rate, I can pretty well guarantee taht wo'nt happen. They didn't put them on the DCL ships, they're not going to add them anywhere near WDW property. There would be a better chance of them building a DVC property in LV.
