Ok so I was on another forum and I clicked on an ad fora cheap villa rental in Kissimmee. I read their terms and conditions page and # 7 floored me.http://www.indianridgevilla.com/terms.htm:( So I posted a new thread questioning their ability to do this, the responses on the other board were basically yep they can.:headache: So I decided to post it here because this P$%&es me off!!!:furious: Especially the responders who are trying to excuse this as the owner not wanting groups because they are more likely to damage their villa. Or the responder who said stay somewhere else then.

(does it count if my partner (women) bring our twin BOYS (2 years old) with us? Then we aren't a single sex party.);)

But remember...Bush and the rest of that style clan don't think there is a need/reason to have rights extended to same-sex partners because the current system works.

This is quite usual in the UK to put this in adverts for properties but, unless I'm totally naive, it is to avoid hen and stag parties. I know a woman who owns a log cabin in Wales who had it totally trashed by a hen party....and I mean vomit everywhere, broken windows, ripped bed linen etc etc. She now has a 'no single sex parties' rule on her property.....and she has lived with her female partner for the last 15 years!

Unfortunately, yes they can. :(
The anti-discrimination laws in Florida (and many other states for that matter) don't include sexual orientation. We can be fired for being who we are, denied service for being who we are, and yes, denied lodging for being who we are. As sad as it is in this day and age, it's a reality.

That makes sense, but couldn't it then be reworded? Or do they make exceptions on a case-by-case basis? Or are we just SOL because my partner and I just happen to both be women? :confused3

Kinda looks like a dump-
I don't think a gay couple would want it. :)

wow, I guess I am the naive one since this is the first time I have seen it here in the US. I do know here in our community an apartment owner was sued because she wouldn't rent to unmarried couples because she felt it was sinful. She lost in court but really she won because now if you rent from her you have to be a married couple or a single person. No roommates at all.

See this makes me sad for my children. Hopefully they will be wiser than my generation who still tolerates this kind of thing.
I wonder if the owner would have issues with my hubby and I since we are different races? No matter I agree it does look like a dump and even if it was free I could never stay there.

Around us people are trying to pass a no seaonal renting ban because.... they say that they don't like people renting to the local university kids, but everyone knows the real reason is because they don't want the brooklyn jews coming down for the summer. I guess it just shows that people will try to stop others from being themselves (whether young college kids or older jewish families) everywhere you go.

I think this is sad and wrong. I know they are doing it aimed at gay couples, but even if I wanted to go with a group of girlfriends for a weekend away from the hubbies, we couldn't rent it either.
So that is how they are getting away with not renting to gays but not coming right out and saying it.
jerks.
So let me get this right ... if we brought our son with us that would be OK?

Or are they only banning "hen and stag" parties? (Love that term by the way, they are bachelor or bachelorette parties over here!)
Hmmm, I may have to make a phone call in the morning.....

So what if we rented two rooms, and only stayed in one, that way they wouldn't know who was in what room. And the thing I don't get is if they're discriminating against same sex couples, they're the ones losing out on our tourist dollars. They don't look at it that way, if this place looks like a "dump" I wouldn't rent it #1, #2 if they WOULD rent to same sex couples, they might get more money to fix it up and get more people in there. IF only they would think before they acted, instead, they go with the consensus and think what they're doing is what they should do...DUH!!!!!

Orlando and Orange county do have laws against discrimination based on sexual identity. Kissimmee, however is in Osceola County. In Osceola County the kids still get a day out of school every year for the county rodeo.

Oh, yeah, like every single single person that stays in the blasted hotel is going to have a wild sex orgy just because they can!!! Well, besides Wally that is. ;) But are they so closed minded that that's what they think we do ALL DAY LONG!!! I mean come on, once a week is hard enough, let alone everyday of the year, I need a vacation too you know! ;)

I'm sorry, I spoke before I did my research. I stand corrected. :thumbsup2
But there are still MANY states/municipalities where it is completely legal and acceptable to discrimiate on the basis of sexual orientation.

I've not been to the linked place in the first post, but if the rental is in Indian River, you DON'T want to be there. EEEEYEYEYYYYYYUUUUUUUCK!
Discrimination is boundless, and endless. :confused3

I am trying to figure out if this is a gay issue or if this is a 'I don't want parties' issue.
Say my mom, me and my 2 sisters wanted to rent it....I almost want to e-mail and ask. I can see that they might not want a fraternity, or a sorority to rent it, or party type groups (but they would be better off to say no one under 25 or something).
Anybody e-mail to try and find out. Ask nicely and pretend you are a mother/daughters group.

Great! Can't wait to hear what they have to say! IMO- this idea of stopping parties can be done by age mainly...just make it something like no one under 23 allowed, unless a married couple or something.

I too would be interested to find out if they will 'allow' asmit4's party. I don't know about in the states but in the UK it is becoming very popular for hen and stag parties to be mini vacations involving copious amounts of booze and, seemingly, a fair amount of bad behaviour. As i said before it is this kind of behaviour that puts property owners off renting to single sex parties.
I wonder if the property owner is from the UK? :confused3

I don't know if the owners are British but they seem to cater to Brits by the language used on the website.

The anti-discrimination laws in Florida (and many other states for that matter) don't include sexual orientation.
But Federal Fair Housing law does include gender as a protected class. The prohibition as written disallows any single-gender rental party, and so I suspect that it violates the Fair Housing statutes. You also can't base it on familial status, so the oft-seen "Families Only" is also illegal.
Ironically, if it excluded only gay men or lesbians it would be perfectly legal. Sad, isn't it? :(

It is a UK owner - I checked the 'contact us' part of the website. As I said before this 'clause' is very commonly used in the UK to avoid all female or all male parties having....well...PARTIES! I honestly, genuinely don't think this is an 'anti-gay' clause. :confused3
