View Full Version : Just back..Disney Resorts are the worst!

My family and I just returned from a vacation where we switched hotels three times to best experience the so-called magic. Boy were we dissappointed!
We first stayed at the Poly and had what we thought would be a great location. It was lakeview...We thought how romantic & peaceful this would be...Not! Come to find out we're looking right at this big ugly castle, all lit up like it's somethin' special. Well it was very annoying & bright to boot. You'd think Disney could warn you about these 'special circumstances' ahead of time so a person could make other arrangements...Well, we just kept the curtains closed so we weren't bothered by that infernal light!
Then we moved on the the AKL...Now this place seemed real neat but as soon as we checked into our room imagince the horror at getting a glimpse into the outside world from our room? Well, I'll tell you I was mad. I called the front desk and demanded that they shut down that road (that actualy had traffic) & extinguish the lights or we were moving! Imagine my horror when they stated they couldn't close the road or dim the lighs...Yeah right, like Disney couldn't do that. I can't believe other guests with a lot less patience than me haven't complained!
From AKL we moved to the WL and our luck continued. We had a room that looked out at the woods! Can you believe it? At the Wildernss Lodge we actually had to look at wilderness??? And to add insult to injury our room was high enough so that we had to look at that dreaded castle again! Well, that was it! We checked out the next day and headed over to Universal to stay at one of their hotels. We figured what with all the money we'd spent at Disney ($19,279.00 so far, perhaps US could give us what we want).
Oh, our hotel at Universal was glorious. It was brand new and shiny and no distractions like animals or a castle, the serenity of the woods or the excitement of the BW or lakeview settings of the YC/BC (We almost made the mistake of staying there). No sir, Universal only charged us 19.99 for our room which overlookd a beautiful parking lot and gave us FOTL pases to all of the attractions (we like that this really pisses of the day trippers). We loved that the Universal employess aren't condescending like the Disney Cast Members...No sir, they don't speak respectfully in that 'suck up' tone of voice...No, no, no, they're just like you or me or like the employees at any fast food joint...You know, regular folks...None of that sissy 'please' & 'thank you' stuff...Heck we had to practically yell at some of them to get their attention. I like that...Real people!
So in closing don't stay at Disney. They crowd your personal space, time & energy with way to much stuff. Go elsewhere where you can be treated like regular people and ride the same 2 or 3 great rides over and over again...That way there you'll have no surprises...Which is what we all want on vacation, right?  :bounce:

I know that Disney's CMs are trained to deal with certain types of neurosis among some guests, but, for all you defend Universal, I am sure you aren't worth to them more than you're willing to pay and for your expression of loyalty they won't even reward you like they reward VIPs and members of the press... Not even a free lollipop for all that effort!
By the way, I just found out that HRH will charge resort guests $6 for parking their rental car out in the lot... Wow!

Tell you one thing, I love Disney too. But you cannot beat FOTL acces passes and not waiting over an hour for a ride. Also HRH room are over 400 ft. compare that to the avg. 260 ft you get in the moderate hotels in Disney. Also, I paid $129 a night for HRH and $350 for Poly. Hmmmm......... wonder where I will be staying this year

So true Peter, but I'm wondering when you went. You rode attractions 2 or 3 times? In one day or was this over the course of several weeks? When I was at WDW, about 4 weeks ago, I only wished I could ride the attractions 2 or 3 times. I couldn't even ride them once at MK 'cause it was so crowded. It would have been nice to use early entry, as we were staying on-site.
After our visit to WDW we did indeed stay at Universal, for, as you suggested, a significantly lower rate than Disney. Unfortunateley the Hard Rock also has a view of the Portofino Bay, beautifully lit at night, what a scene! The other alternative is to view IOA, again, all lit up at night. Thanks to heavy black out curtains, no room changes were necessary. And those rooms! They are decorated so beautifully I'm afraid no Disney resort will ever measure up. Horrors.
I'm also wery disturbed that our family will be forever spoiled by FOTL. What a difference not to wait in line! How will we ever face the lines at WDW! I felt bad when I saw the mere mortals in line, but my guilt faded rapidly when I realized how quickly we could get through the park and back to that wonderful pool and slide.
Peter what were you saying to those CM's that they weren't nice to you? Perhaps it was the Universal logo with the international "NO" sign over it, or perhaps it was the t-shirt that said "Universal sucks" or maybe it was just the mouse ears that turned them off. I can't imagine as the CM's at Universal were every bit as pleasant to us as those at WDW.
Will we demanding customers ever be fully satisfied? Apparently only if the goods are offered by a rodent.

Excellent job once again, Mr. Pirate.
But you know, there's always a few...
who prefer parking lot views from great heights...
who don't really care what they do as long as there isn't a line for it...
who feel the Magic emanating from......Woody Woodpecker...
who find attentive customer service "uncomfortable"...
who need to drag down #1 to feel better...
Oh wait, did I say that out loud?

Peter Pirate, great job.
When is the next chapter coming out.
To pass on some news, I've just gotten off the phone with my friends at Disney and they have stopped all plans to develope another resort.
They will focus all time and energy on the development for a new Resort ITWASFUN (for the Insane, Twisted, Weird, Always, Stupendious(sp), Fabulous, and Utterly Nuts").
The rooms will be 12 x 12 with white padding and a small window 3 x 3 (so that the CM's can see when we're gone). The going rate is undetermined at this time (I get the feeling it will be similar to the cost of a straignt jacket.)
Thanks for the laugh.:D

This is just too funny! I have to admit, during our stay at the WL we had first floor wilderness view. The horror! And yet somehow Disney tried to make up for it by putting rabbits just outside our window/sliding glass door the next morning eating grass and hopping around. They had to be animatronic, right? I mean, they couldn't really have *REAL* bunnies hopping around, could they? Nah. But I got em on video to prove they were there - real or not! And the authentic smell of a roaring fire with the burning wood outside the lodge. It was so real that my allergies kicked in. Oh, wait, it *WAS* real. That was one of the years they had wildfires nearby...never mind.
Disclaimer: The preceding note contained no references to US, IOA or any properties affiliated with said theme park(s). This note makes no assumptions or comments on the enjoyment factor and/or value of said theme park(s)/resort or any perks they may offer. But hey, I still like WDW better. That's just IMO.

totally agree with you.. I love disney but am just as happy at HRH as well.
and if you want to really be nit picky...hrh rooms are well over 330 sq feet
compare that to AKL & WL where you can bearly change your mind in that room.. and I find both US and WDW employees to be equally nice
FOTL passes are exquisite. my kids hate to to to WDW after a trip to US....
so.....both parks offer different things....
I love both of them equally and quite personally
would pick a HRH room any day(barring seeing the castle) over any WDW hotel...

I love all of all of the Disney parks but I must agree with some on this board. You cannot compare the rooms at any Disney resort with the rooms and perks at the Hard Rock Hotel and the Portofino Bay Hotel. Front of the line access and the free boat ride from the hotel to the parks is priceless. Also, the rooms at the Disney resorts all seem so generic. Disney hotels have a great facade and beautiful lobbies but once you get up to your room - it's a whole different story - unless you are staying at one of their top suites. I've stayed at the Contemporary and at the Key West Resort - I would rather stay at the Portofino or the Hard Rock any day. For one I get to bring my eskie Dante with me. We always get there at 7:30 a.m. and our room is ready. We always deal with the same concierge who has been there for-ever and gets us any kind of reservation we need with a smile on her face. We get late check out and we get free cookies and cold milk delivered to our room. What else can you ask for?

Excellent job once again, Mr. Pirate.
But you know, there's always a few...
who prefer parking lot views from great heights...
who don't really care what they do as long as there isn't a line for it...
who feel the Magic emanating from......Woody Woodpecker...
who find attentive customer service "uncomfortable"...
who need to drag down #1 to feel better...
Oh wait, did I say that out loud?
There are always a few who feel the need to denegrate those who like something different than they do...
Who like the idea of actually parking CLOSE to the park and not in direct sunlight during 90-degree weather - or in the open during those bursts of Florida's famous Liquid Sunshine...
Who like it when attractions they like don't have lines - or if they can skip the lines and go right in...
Whose hearts and spirits are open to more than one kind of Magic...
Who believe that "customer service" is defined strictly by Mikey wake up calls and towel animals...
Who constantly feel the need to call their favorite stuff #1 and ignore the fact that DIFFERENT is not the same thing as INFERIOR...

There are numerous threads on the DIS and on just about every other Disney-related board where Disney lovers like us complain about those poor souls who don't "get" Disney are make fun of our love for the place. Those poor souls don't realize that our feelings are hurt by their snide comments and laughter - or maybe they don't care.
I have always found it to be sadly ironic that so many of those same people whose feelings are hurt by others' snide comments about Disney are the same people who feel the need to make snide comments about Universal, despite the fact that those snide comments hurt MY feelings as much as the snide comments about Disney hurt THEIR feelings.
Universal is a great place. I love it as much as I love WDW. If you don't, that's okay by me, but I ask that you have as much respect for my feelings toward Uni as you want others to have for your feelings about Disney.

I'll be fine as long as they don't allow children at the resorts.

Oh, that's just funny! I do so hope that on my March trip I won't have to look at the rose gardens at POR! Looking at flowers and neatly gardened courtyards just makes me sick! :lmao:

What an outrage! Disney could take a lesson or two from the BMV as to how to treat a customer! ;)

Now I'm wondering if I'll have to view that darn silly clown or actually be put in a "preferred view" overlooking that pesky boardwalk on our next trip at BWV - guess will have to keep the curtains closed (wouldn't want those flashy fireworks keeping me awake). I can really empathize with you ;)
P.S. OMG you had me laughing so hard - thanks! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
