Ive only just started to look into DVC so this is all very new to me. If we went into this, we still wouldnt visit WDW every tear so I was wondering how easy it is to rent your points out? is there alot a paper work involved? also how many times can yuou carry your points over?

Thanks Emma

Renting seems to be realitively easy however the money exchange and distance may make it a little more difficult for UK owners (unless you find someone there to rent them). Points can be banked one year ahead only. They can also be borrowed one year ahead, so the most available at one time is 3 years worth of points. It really doesn't pay to join if you don't go at least every other year.

Pixie -- renting out your points isn't the only option for using your points. There are many different ways to use your points. Several posters here who live in England have told of the many trips they've taken around Europe using their points.

While it isn't guaranteed that those other programs will ALWAYS be in place, I think it likely that some sort of swap option is going to be offered. At the moment the hotel stays at DLP are pretty reasonable for UK members and the Interval International swaps are also pretty useful, they have some good offers in Europe as well as all over the world. If you haven't already done so I would suggest calling Member Services and asking for a video ( on UK format) be sent to you so you can look through the various options and get some more ideas on how it could work for you.

While I have used the concierge collection, I now believe it's more cost effective to rent your points and then make your own travel arrangements independent from DVC. Some people don't want the hassel of renting points-- it's not for everyone. It hasn't been any trouble in my limited experience, though.

As a seller, renting is relatively easy. I was a renting newbie until only a couple of months ago. Using the DIS rent/trade board is pretty much where the market is made - people are also using Ebay. The biggest disappointment for me was the complete lack of care that DVC Member Services had about "extra points" that we couldn't use this year. They didn't suggest that I try to rent them out and make a little money, instead of losing them. You can really move your extra points by offering less than the $10/pt, customary price now being offered. One big caveat though - you can only transfer points to another DVC member 1x per year, and you can't transfer points that were banked from the previous year; this can be a problem if want to rent to multiple DVC members and also if you want to rent banked points.
