Well anywho (shout out Nicole) I have been blessed with the gift that is 4
very wonderful little men. Dilly is the star of this story so I will start the cast
of characters with him. Dilly soon to be 5. Enjoys all things trains,Disney and
Sprout.popcorn::
Dylan came into this world with a ticker that didn't want to follow the rules!
So we took a trip to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital
where we stayed for 6 months :eek: waiting for a new heart, because of course when somethings broken it MUST be fixed! He was a very sick little boy :worried: and then at the last moment, when every little vein was all tuckered out, and we didn't think we were going to be taking our little
bundle back home....:lovestruc guess what happened! He gotta heart
:cloud9: It really was a miracle. After the transplant he started gaining weight. A lot of it , from a frail bag of bones to the hefty little mac truck that is Dilly the invincible now. Our transplant coordinator (Gramma Judy) referred dilly to MAW and our tale begins! I will be sharing the rest of the cast info,

So the rest of the cast would be DS8 on his own little extended vacation at his
evil, wicked stinky pirate dads.. having too much fun :beach:

DS2 The amazing rubber man Robbie.:hyper: Too young for the trip, has to stay at home with handsome DB37 and get spoiled to pieces shopping and playing (poor guy!):rolleyes:

DS6 months Super sexy fatty man Zachery. Has more rolls than a deli, Staying with Gramms (age revealed=no presents at Christmas) so he can get snuggled and cuddled.

Now my fair skinned snuggle buns will make their first Disney trip when they are older. I'm not much on any outings that involve little guys not being able to talk. No sitters, trick or treating, play dates at other houses...I'm just
strange that way.But I still feel need to note their adventures also because they are going to be having their own very special very favorite kind of fun.

My DH Denny, great guy, never gets excited unless it has something to do with a football or golf:confused: and me....I'm just a mom.:lmao:

September 5th through the 11th.

If it wasn't for the support of my husband brother and kids, life wouldn't happen...neither would worry headaches or messy floors:duck:

So our wish team came to the house and we made a sign....and some
food....and some flowers.... and cake.....:wizard: My DB came in from out of town and helped pull everything together and wrangled the kiddos while we
spoke with our wish team.I swear to you sometimes I think I would fall apart
at the seams if it wasn't for ol' wonder boy:rolleyes:
They informed us that they work with GKTWhttp://gktw.com We would not be going to Disney World for one
day,but instead a 6 night seven day all inclusive vacation that included
Seaworld, Universal, and Walt Disney World. We were floored to say the
least.Really, I cried. So I went online and found out info on the places we would be going and found the disboards:cloud9: My new me time home.
Our wish trip team - were phenomenal ladies, Ms. Ann and Ms. Elizabeth.
Dedicating there lives to saving children, saving animals, saving the world.
They are really really special ladies:wizard: We were blessed to meet them.
Oh! and both cancer survivors just like DH & DF!Too neat.

Ok let's let DH explain Dilly's heart problem. "Dilly had cardiomyopathy.He had a hole in the center of his heart.there are 4 chambers in the heart,and the hole hit all 4 corners. Blood was going to his lungs twice when it should have been only once.His heart was enlarged to three times the normal size.Normally the leave some part of the original heart to graft to when the transplant,but dilly" heart was so damaged they had to transplant the entire heart and cut all the nerve endings.Dilly was able to accept a heart three times the size due to the enlarged area from his heart.so that was good,it left a greater chance for him to get a heart.Which a did.":confused3

Well, its a week away form Dilly's party. I'm going to call my wonderful friend
Tanya at MAW to find out what the procedure is. I'm not sure if we gift the host or just Dilly. We went shopping at Opry Mills and I must have got at
least 30 Disney Tees for less than $100......YEEEEEEEEE HAWW! I love a sale

Ok, now that I'm done with work for the day and have time to read correctly...I just wanted to add some Disney advice. you are going to Disney during "free dining" which basically means that the sit down restaurants will be filled to capacity (people tend to take advantage of more expensive meals when they are free!) Try to talk your DH into making at least one or two ADRs for a character meal. You will not have much luck walking up to sit down restaurants in Sept. Ok that's enough of that lecture!

So there wasn't a party when we arrived at Chuck's. They had no idea who we were at all.:eek: The manager takes my cell and talks to one of those
travelling super ladies and by some miracle has a whole party there for Dilly in 15 minutes. I have to give alot of credit to the manager and the young lady who took care of us at the party. I don't think that they had to do what they did. Dilly had 300 free tickets to share with his older brother a ton of balloons, pizza, cake, smiles and hugs. They gave them cups and cups of free tokens and at the end of the party, the manager let them pick ANY toys they wanted:goodvibes She did not have to be so kind. It was overwhelming the kindness shown by the staff. The boys were too happy!:woohoo:
Tanya , Anne and Elizabeth were there from the foundation. My brother and his wife.Dennis Dilly, Jayce and moi.We played from Morning until the afternoon and we had a ball:dance3: Can't wait to take them back.
There was some magic happening of a different level when we got home because they were exhausted!!:rolleyes:

So Tanya brought a blue MAW carry on with a handmade luggage tag. A handmade travel Itenerary folder, a camera for Dilly, a hat a shirt, buttons, stickers, crayons and coloring books, autograph books....and the coolest thing ever but I won't tell because your wish kid might get one too.;)
My brother gave him 2 huge Disney themed scrapbooks, a Spiderman Digital Camera, and a bunch of different card stock shapes and stickers all themed for each Disney thing Dill will be doing:worship:
I'll post pics of that stuff soon. Elizabeth brought a coloring book and a board book for his carry on. :wizard: Yay!

I agree that you should try to make some ADRs for 1 or two meals. I have made a couple for our group but then we will have 10 people and we can't go anywhere with out a plan. I hear that the meals at GKTW are pretty amazing so you probably won't need too many.

You will have to do what the rest of us will do... go with the flow when things get wild!

Enjoy, and get excited about the Big Give! Those packages can be really fun!

Today was Dilly's birthday.We don't have a lot of friends or anything so we had a little party for just the family.It was a hoot, he got a Batman costume
he ran around catching no good criminals(my 2 yr old) for an hour:rolleyes:
The little guy has been through more drama than anyone adult that I know but you sure can't tell to watch him.:goodvibes Happy Birthday little man, I hope the next year is fabulous.

Jessica made the most wonderful Toy Story outfit. Dylan thought it was the Bee's Knees. Thank you so much Jessica!
The autograph book was too special. All of the characters are right there on the page !!! YAY! He won't sleep without the kangaroo that was sent and the Power Ranger picture is on the very front of the fridge for all to admire. That was a GREAT gift!It even had a blue click-able sharpie:worship: Those kids were so thoughtful:hug:
Stacey sent Dilly a crayola holder that rolls and ties with a ribbon.Genius!A power ranger coloring book and coloring pages of his fave folks! Twistable crayolas and an airplane! :rolleyes: Dylan was born. Blue. Why This didn't bother anyone besides me I'll never know. He wouldn't eat and his heart rate was150 to 160 the whole time. They kept saying it was normal but kept him at the hospital for 4 days.:confused3 We brought him home, and he would not stop crying. I thought that was weird because Jayce cried for the first time when he was almost 1 year old. Dilly never stopped! We took him to our "doctor" maybe 10 times asking what the problem was. She said it colic. We asked him why he was grey, she said it was jaundice; grey jaundice:sad2: .I kept calling, they kept telling me he was fine. Then one morning we woke up to do the morning changing and Dilly had not peed through the night. There was only a tiny pink dot in his diaper about the size of a pencil lead. I panicked called his dad at work and we were off to the hospital. Today blondie decides that she thinks
she hears something, 2 other doctors definitely hear some thing because they sent him for a chest x ray. Next thing I know we are in the Maury Regional PCCU waiting for someone to pick up Dylan.:eek: At this moment my only concern was why would someone even think to put an IV in that baby?

She turned around and looked at me and said really? Where he's going this is the least of your concern. I asked why his doctor wasn't taking care of him, she told me it was a nurse practitioner:mad: I asked that chick at least 4 times if she was a doctor because I didn't know her from the clinic. I really want to strangle her:rolleyes: Anywho off to Vandy.
15 minutes later we arrive at Vanderbilt which was an hours drive from the hospital. Behind security doors they took Dilly and left me standing in the hall with not a word.:sad2: I didn't know what was going on. I didn't really know where we were and Denny and Mamma were on their way.

So they have stolen my 2 month old baby away, I'm standing in the hallway and some lady is shooing me away from the security doors. I thought they were taking him away from me.:sad1:
When Mom and Denny arrived they put us in a little room and told us we would be lucky if Dilly would make it through the next 24 hours.:sad2: That _itch did not know what she was doing and almost caused us to lose our child.
I'll never forgive her that.
Dilly's heart grew to be 5 times the size it was supposed to be. His body could only function enough to get his heart to twitch kinda. Not pump. So they put him on alot alot of meds, pain killers, amnesiacs and you know the drill. We waited forever it seemed like for them to do their thing. They kept moving things around, changing stuff. I swear I just stayed dazed the first couple of weeks. I never once let my guard down. I didn't trust them a bit.
They made so many silly mistakes, and some of those nurses were just out for a check and not doing their jobs.
We did meet wonderful ppl while we were there, We brought away life long friends from the situation and a healthy little monster of a boy.Just that thing didn't go good there.Not that anyone could do right by me when it comes to the kids anyway:rolleyes:
So let's see we went in October, in December they did a PA band, took him off the transplant list and said they were sending him home. They dropped his meds sent us to floor, his lungs collapsed and we were back in the PCCU for another 3 months. Jee I only tried to get you too look at 500 times.He was screaming bloody murder for like 28 hours and they said it was because he was coming off his meds:headache: NO! No! No!But I didn't graduate so what do I know about my kid?

Do you see why I didn't want to tell this story? I'm still angry. Still very Me about the whole thing cuz it pisses me off and makes me wanna go redneck.

So anywho the day before we got our heart, they had been trying to find a working vein on dill.They probably tried close to 200 different places, and there just wasn't one they were all collapsing. Without the line he couldn't get the meds that pumped his heart! It was getting closer.:sad2: But another miracle happened, some mom somewhere, I love you.
The doctor called about 9:36am the next morning"Misty we have a heart"

But you moms with kids on immunosuppressants know what i mean. So no more yucky stuff. He was pitiful; and now he's not.:cloud9:

So there wasn't a party when we arrived at Chuck's. They had no idea who we were at all.:eek: The manager takes my cell and talks to one of those
travelling super ladies and by some miracle has a whole party there for Dilly in 15 minutes. I have to give alot of credit to the manager and the young lady who took care of us at the party. I don't think that they had to do what they did. Dilly had 300 free tickets to share with his older brother a ton of balloons, pizza, cake, smiles and hugs. They gave them cups and cups of free tokens and at the end of the party, the manager let them pick ANY toys they wanted:goodvibes She did not have to be so kind. It was overwhelming the kindness shown by the staff. The boys were too happy!:woohoo:
Tanya , Anne and Elizabeth were there from the foundation. My brother and his wife.Dennis Dilly, Jayce and moi.We played from Morning until the afternoon and we had a ball:dance3: Can't wait to take them back.
There was some magic happening of a different level when we got home because they were exhausted!!:rolleyes:

Today was Dilly's birthday.We don't have a lot of friends or anything so we had a little party for just the family.It was a hoot, he got a Batman costume
he ran around catching no good criminals(my 2 yr old) for an hour:rolleyes:

More coloring pages, so many we are going to make our own coloring book for the plane. Magic washcloths for the babies! The list goes on because you guys are so sweet. It really does mean so much to us that people want to spread Pixie dust to our family. Dylan has been through so many test, and surgeries. He still has to have test,labs and meds on a regular basis, and he hates it. He tries to be a good sport about it, but it's hard on him.There have been many months where he and I never even left the house, for fear of him getting sick:charac2: The worst time of year is from Nov-May I really don't like going out during cold and flu season. I'm so scared someone is going to get him sick and I'm, going to lose him.:sad2: He's my best friend.
so thank you again for supporting him. We feel so good about going, and it's nice for me to have someone to share things with! :chat:He really deserves Disney!

I have wanted to post before now, but I get on here and it brings so much back reading all that Misty puts on here. Let me tell you I think she is awesome. She and Dennis made sure they understood everything that was going on when they got to the hospital. If the Dr. said it has to be this way, then anybody coming into contact with Dilly better be following the rules. I am sure she saved him more than once. One DR. who specialized in infections came when Dilly was at his worse, making his rounds and came in and didn't even wash his hands after seeing a girl in quarintine. You can bet he didn't get to Dilly. He got into trouble for that with the heart Drs.. He knew better. It was hard seeing this sweet little baby so sick and so tiny. At five months being nine pounds and not being able to suck a bottle because it put too much work on his heart. I remember how he was blue when he was born and he never seemed to feel good. Misty sure took him enough and said there was something wrong and they said no. When he was born and they kept him longer than most because he wouldn't eat, too late we found out that was one of the signs that something was wrong with the heart. Dillys Drs. were pediatricians so they should have caught it. To look at him now you would not think he had went through so much. They all really deserve this trip. Thanks to all.

We received a check from MAW in the amount of $825.00:banana: :banana: :banana: for trip expenses. We plan to take extra for shopping but I think it might help other Wish trippers to have an idea. Some ppl don't post the amount, and I think it helps to know for planning!

Wow, I'm impressed. I packed most of Aisling's clothes and that's about it! My goal this weekend if to finish my iron-on tshirts, at least cut out the Epcot outfit, and finish the applique on the backup (meaning after we ride Kali River Rapids) Animal Kingdom outfit.

Misty Mates were from BJs...do you have BJs locally (it's a wholesale club)? I could run to mine and see if they have more for you and mail them out if they do. I got mine at the beginning of the summer. They normally cost $15/piece but BJs had them for 3 for $17 if I'm remembering correctly. Let me know and I can run over there tomorrow and check for you.

Mandy is gone to Atlanta and Mike leaves for Gillette Wyoming in the morning. Then when Mandy gets back tomorrow night, she will only be home one day and she is heading to St George, UT for the Labor day weekend. These people are not understanding that I need those suitcases!:laughing: I have important work to do here!

Deniseo you have to pack for everyone? I can pack 40 outfits(for short ppl mind you) in our small carry on. I haven't weighed it yey, but it seems light. The only ironing that will need to be done in FL will be minimal.
You can press the air out of the bags and stack them. I put a days out fit and 2 extra shirts in each bag. No fuss over whether or not dad is colorblind!!

Yes, an hour or so. That is a toy laptop with learning games. Not a real one.
My first thought was to but a DS or something of the like. Denny says it's not happening. He's right though, there really are too many little ones running around to take a chance on throwing that money in the garbage. It shouldn't be too hard to entertain him on his first airplane ride. After all watching your mom cling to a chair and vomit is pretty funny isn't it?:sick:

Maybe I'll repack everyone:banana: :banana: :banana: I'm 4 lbs away from losing my target 20lbs for Disney...but it didn't have the effect I had hoped it would. The back of my knees are still being kept warm by the bottom of my bottom and my belly kinda reminds Well I don't know what...but it ain't pretty.:goodvibes So...anywho, I have a good list going for next week as far as what to do and when to do it. If you have a hard time staying together when packing visit flylady.com she sends too many emails but the tool bar is useful. It's kinda like having someone remind you that you're a grown up:lmao: I am excited but honestly I have had so much Disney from the board that I feel like there's going to be a test.
Dilly has made is itinerary, and there's not that much on it so this should be a pretty relaxed little vacation for him and Denny. Dilly wants to meet the Power Rangers and Woody and Buzz. He seems more excited about Mickey,Donald,Daisy
Goofy,Pluto, Minnie than I would have guessed. He doesn't even care about some of the things I thought would be a big deal:confused3 What do I know?
Well if anyone can give me something to do ..... make me a list .

Misty, I hope that's your name. My friend Carla told me about the DISboards. We as well have a heart patient that was granted a wish to Disney. When they sent me the email that everything was confirmed for us to go to WDW, I could do nothing but cry. It's awesome what the MAW does isn't it? How is your son doing now? I had never heard of Misty Mates- we will have to check into those. We just used the old fashioned spray bottle with a fan when we went to DL this summer! But Nathan has so much trouble with the heat- we could use those at ball games. Hopefully it won't be hot when we go in November.

I hear that they are having a great time. Yesterday was the biggest day. Misty was so excited with all that had happened. I will let her give all of the details. Yesterday was when he got to meet the Power Rangers. This was big. Sad to say the lady who was in charge of the pink Power Ranger line thought Dilly should wait in line like everyone else. It's an amazing place...it's not Disney. I made the mistake of taking Dylan on Atlantis.:confused3 I didn't know it was a roller coaster...I didn't know what that drop was like. Needless to say I lost his trust for the rest of the day on that one:sad2: It was ver hot at Seaworld also, if not for those mistymates we would have not made it with Dylan as long as we did! He just can't take the heat, it messes with his mdication levels so we had to call it a day early on, I had been told that this was a very mild time of the year but that was not so the first 3 days of the trip! I woudl have went in the fall as originally planned. See the shows they are wonderful!

It's an amazing place...it's not Disney. I made the mistake of taking Dylan on Atlantis.:confused3 I didn't know it was a roller coaster...I didn't know what that drop was like. Needless to say I lost his trust for the rest of the day on that one:sad2: It was ver hot at Seaworld also, if not for those mistymates we would have not made it with Dylan as long as we did! He just can't take the heat, it messes with his mdication levels so we had to call it a day early on, I had been told that this was a very mild time of the year but that was not so the first 3 days of the trip! I woudl have went in the fall as originally planned. See the shows they are wonderful!

We went to Island of Adventure the second day of our trip to find that by some miracle they had been able to place it only inches from the sun. This makes for a very unhappy, family. The day did not go good. Some very wonderful magic happened though, or at least Dilly thought so!

I'm not trying to scare you, But if you aren't prepared it could ruin your child's wish. I took $2,000. Should be plenty of money to eat and buy trinkets. I didn't realize that everytime we stopped to snack it would be $15
Breakfast $20-$40 and dinner the same. The pizza is really good but there's a timing issue there. It's open from 4-10:30 pm you miss precious park hours trying to be around a certain time. The ice cream palace was cool. The place is amazing to the kiddos. I am only here to inform the moms. Your kids will have fun no matter what. Also you will not have to face the issue with heat that we did. Calm down it's ok.!!:hug: The rude teenagers were at the parties...you won't have to got to those because your friend Misty from the did informed you that they are small and not a must do. It is also where the evil teens are. :rotfl: Skip it! Don't skip the character meet.!! You get a free picture when you leave! Eat the ice cream play the games.

It was just enough. We really didn't buy anything too much. He got a sword a sheild another sword a giant potatohead 2 stuffed animals. A park bag of tink gifts. We shopped at Walmart for breakfast food and water. It's not that we didn't have a wonderful time . Just Dylan can't take the heat and things didn't happen the way the volunteers explained. No trip away from home can be perfect. They gave us $825 we took extra$$ just in case but actually had to use it. The $825 probably would have been perfect if we didn't have to buy so many meals. Do I make sound awful, I'm just telling the bad weird or ugly upfront so I don't have to ruin the fun stuff later. Maybe I should go back and delete my post??

I can only say make a trip to Walmart when you get there if you plan on leaving earlier in thte morning. Get some breakfast food and snacks. You can take 2 coolers to the park and store one in the locker. I think the locker rental was $10. Otherwise you will be spending alot of money at the kiosk around the park. Gas was only $3. Florida is wonderful disney is wonderful. I can't get it ut of my head I want to live there. Please take that one to the bank. The ants were living in a very clean villa. I just don't like bugs. Not even
the mighty ant. I didn't complain, they have better things to do there than worry about Dilly's ants:) I don't like to bother ppl with things like that. I have conflict issues.:wave2:

I have been reading this today, and had to think about it before I knew what to say in response to it...:confused3 Part of me is so sad that the trip (at least so far) was not what you pictured...and part of me is glad you wrote all of that...

My main disclaimer is that I am "not the Momma!"... :) But... I wonder if the parents (or good friends) of Wish Kids sort of get the perfect vacation in our heads before we leave. We read the TR's and we come up with the perfect trip in our mind...Perfect weather...no lines (the magic button)...no tired kids...plenty of "spending money"... And we put this perfect trip in our heads. So when the "stuff" that happens on vacations happens...like tired kids, food we don't like, high prices (higher now that the economy seems to be taking a nose dive!)...it just doesn't fit in our "perfect" trip mindset.

We have talked to Lauren in the last few days...because we have been pumping up this trip for her SO MUCH...how perfect everything is going to be, etc. that we were afraid she was setting herself up for disappointment. So we told her..."Don't expect it to be perfect!" It will be fun. But it won't be perfect. she was actually sad...I think she had a perfect trip in her head, too. So we are trying to pump up the "cool" vacation...so we aren't "overly" excited...ya know? (Don't get me wrong...she is still VERY excited!)

And I am glad I read these posts today...because it is a reminder that it won't be perfect...and I hear what you are saying...it cost more than it seems (plan ahead) and work out a schedule that makes sense for your kids! We have already bought all of our breakfast foods. Our trip will be different because GKTW was full and we are staying on site...so we definitely will have to save on some meals (hence the purchase of breakfast food!).

Anyway...I hear what you are saying...I think...and can't wait to read the rest of the report...especially about the pixie dust!! :)

I wouldn't delete the post. It gives another view, not all things are perfect. I think like maroo said, it is made up to be the perfect trip and that is super hard at disney or anywhere. I was just very surprised. I have heard great things so far and sad that so far your trip wasn't great. I am sure you really looked forward to the time alone with Dilly. I can't wait to hear about disney though since you did say it gets better!

And you're right ,we spend months researching ,reading TR's ,planning the "perfect" Make A Wish Trip for our children .We're hoping for some extra"magic" for our kids & when it doesn't happen it's the adults that are dissapointed,not the kids. I was one of those adults.My daughter is a BIG Curious George fan so I "had" to get her to universal to meet him ! They arranged a private meet & greet for her & you know what ,she could care less !!!! Didn't even smile ! All she wanted to do was go on the rides ! So for my daughter ,going on nothing but rides for a week ,without barriers ,was the PERFECT Make A Wish Trip !
