Trying to decide which bag to purchase to carry in the parks, and was hoping people could post pictures of them wearing their bags or just simply a picture of their bag if they have it. Also, don't forget to include the name of the bag and the color you chose. Also, the price if you remember how much you paid. TIA! Can't wait to see everyone's fav bags!:yay:

I'm a backpack girl. For our trip next week I bought this:

http://www.ebags.com/ameribag/spiral_backpack/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=92885

It's really small, though it looks bigger in the photo, but it will easily hold water, ponchos, camera, money, sunscreen, cell phone, etc. It has lots of pockets and will be my purse for the whole trip. I love it. It's just what I was looking for.

This is the bag I used last time I went to WDW and will probably use again next time because it was really convienient for me to just slide the pack around to the front or the side when I needed something and it has a lot of room in it for essentials and my passporter. It was really comfortable too.

I'm also looking for a bag... I don't want silly tan lines but I also don't want to be sporting a fanny pack.

I have the baggallini messenger bag as well in Orange. We leave on Sunday so I will be sure to add a picture of me with it on, once I take one. I know when I was looking for bags, I found it easier to decide looking at the bags actually ON people rather than just the bag's website.

Ill come back in a week to post a picture--- hopefully one with me, the baggallini and that famous mouse! :) :) :) :)

I use a WDW backpack. Bought at the resort for around $35. I love it!
DH carried it most of the time during the trip when this pic was taken. Normally it's just DS and me, and I carry it all day with no prob.

I have the Donner bag too. LOVE it. It can hold a bottle of water in one side pocket, mini umbrella in the other, my Drebel camera in the center compartment and then there's the flap area for my phone, cash and credit cards.

DD loved mine so much that she bought one to use as a mini diaper bag.

Hi! I'm looking for a new bag for our trip, too. I started carrying a backpack as my diaper bag b/c I found that a regular bag was a pain if I needed to bend over to pick up a little one. I have never used a messenger-style bag...do they stay put when you bend over or would I risk hitting my child in the head with it?

I'm going to be getting the Vera Bradley hipster hopefully very soon for our trip in August. I was planning to bring a backpack too but the thought of carrying around something on my back in that heat.... I saw the hipster and I think it will be big enough to carry things for DS (4) to the parks, plus it's long enough that I can have it hang down on my butt and not up on my back. THe only downside is I highly doubt DH is going to want to carry around a peacock color Vera Bradley bag :rotfl2: but that's ok, he'll get over it!

Last year I used the Overland Equipment Juno. I loved it because I could fit everything in it and it was still small. This year I'm using the overland Bayliss. Even smaller as I got a smaller camera and weeded out stuff I didn't need.

Here's me and the Juno:

Yes, I know it is from Universal but it showed the bag well. ;)

I use a Vera Bradley bag in Disney too! I find them sooooo comfortable and super LIGHT! Two BIG plusses with a Disney trip. My husband didn't mind helping out at all because he knew most of the time I was carrying our stuff around - I'm sure yours will feel the same way! I use the Villager bag (over the shoulder tote bag with zipper). Also when all is said and done you will actually use a Vera bag at home and it can be thrown right in the wash when you get home! Two more big plusses! :thumbsup2

Well I just ordered the hipster in Peacock yesterday! I can't wait to get it! DH thinks VB bags are so ugly...oh well. I got the wristlet 2 days ago and LOVE IT already so I'm sure I'll love the hipster as well. ::yes:: It just feels so soft and comfortable, and like you said I really wanted something light too. Since we are going in August/Sept I didn't want something hanging on my back in that heat so I thought this would be a good alternative. LOVE the fact that you can wash them too!:thumbsup2

For those of you who haven't tried one, the ultimate pack for WDW or any theme park is a Mountainsmith Lumbar Day Pack. All the functionality of a backpack, yet the bag sits in the small of your back like a fanny pack. Plus, it has backpack straps that take the load off your hips and distributes it evenly.

:cool1: Vera Bradely is my other form of crack when I am not on this website. Took the mini hipster(Rasberry Fizz) to Washington DC last month and it was terrific. So good that I ordered two last night for myself and my Mama to use this Dec. in the World(Classic Black--Ebags--$26). Of course then I had to get the small matching wallet.....to go with Miller Bag.....to go with Hanging Organizer....to go with Large Cosmetic Bag....:rotfl:

This is the bag DH wears. We love it!!! I bought it at Walmart for $12 five or six years ago in the back to school supplies section. It is small and doesn't get in the way. Yet is large enough to carry everything we need. The one strap is starting to pull or fray at the top so I have been looking for a backup/replacement for about 2 years now and can't find anything like it. I believe it is Ozark Trails brand.

If anyone finds anything compairable let me know!

I bought the bagallini last year and he vetoed it. He wants one just like the one we have and since he carries all day everyday he has the final say...
I have thought about buying one of those Camelback hydration packs and taking the bladder out of it, but they are sooo expensive and the don't have as many pockets, but they are the right size.

I just bought the AmeriBag Metro New Yorker Messenger Bag on the Ebags website. I debated back & forth for hours between this one & the Baggallini Messenger Bag (MicroFiber or Eco Messenger Bag which is new). I did not like the quality look of the crinkle nylon Baggallini Bag.

The AmeriBag looks as if it will swing to the front much easer than the Baggallini & none of the customer reviews stated problems with the slipping on the shoulder strap that I have read about the Baggallini.

The Ameribag is leather on the bottom (less stains) & is also made of microfiber (water resistant). I really like the non-slip cross-body shoulder strap in comparison to the Baggallini, it looks much more comforable. It also appears to have many organization pockets, which I love !!!

Does anyone have this bag? Have they used it at Disneyworld? I will let you know what I think when it arrives on 06/30/08. We get the BEST information here on the DIS boards, so I will be sure to share with everyone !!:santa: :santa: :santa:

I am a backpack gal too. I have the PERFECT mini backpack I bought in 2004 at Eddie Bauer for my honeymoon. It held a wallet, water bottles, camera, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, and snacks. Even sandwiches & Capri Suns for lunch! I use a Eddie Bauer backpack for DS's diaper bag. And a small canvas messenger bag (free from a conference)as he is getting older when I just want to take along a few diapers, wipes, extra outfit, extra juice box, and some snack bag.

On previous trips I used backpacks, tote bags, and fanny packs. I still like the mini backpack.

Also if you are looking for GREAT duffel bags--try the Eddie Bauer ones at Target. Very affordable and very durable! That is also where I got the backpack I use for the diaper bag.

Good to know, but it looks like the design is a bit different. If you go to the EBags site & type in Ameribag Metro New Yorker Messenger Style Bag in the search field, it will give you many photos of the interior & exterior features. I bought the solid black color for Disneyworld, but if I like it, I may purchase the tan/black color for daily use.

Sure thing, I got the black color hoping I would be less obsessive about getting it dirty on vacation. :santa: :santa: :santa:

I usually try to avoid carrying a bag at WDW...

But for a stylish ladies' backpack, I really like the Sherpani Vida.

Since most of those type straps are like car seatbelt straps, they make these car seatbelt covers that are made out of terry cloth & padded. They sale them in the baby section at Walmart or Target. When my son was a baby, I bought some to cover the car seatbelts to avoid stains & the stiffness/scratchiness crossing his babyseat/carseat.

They would be great for these types of straps. :santa:

These are the three bags that I take with me.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f242/Brooke023/DSC00424.jpg

I thought it was fitting to line them up under my WDW throw blanket that I got in April. :rolleyes1

The first one is my Vera Bradley mini hipster. I LOVE it. Definitely my favorite one. Lightweight, easy to clean, not too many zippers and pockets and stuff to mess with. The strap is nice and long, comfortable to sling. And it's easy peasy to adjust. Just tie a knot in the top of it and make it the length you like best! I like to keep things simple. I think it cost me $45.00. Note: I bought the little coin purse to go with it, for the small amount of cash that I carry...but never used it. It just was kind of awkward in there. There is not a lot of room inside, however...there are little slots to organize park passes, photopass, debit card, etc. and enough room to throw a digital camera, cellphone, chapstick, purell, and a couple of dollar store ponchos. I put cash in the front zipper pocket (I wouldn't suggest this if you carry a lot of cash, but I only keep $10 or so with me.)

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f242/Brooke023/DSC00426.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f242/Brooke023/DSC00425.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f242/Brooke023/DSC00427.jpg

The next one is my small travel bag thing from Eddie Bauer. This was a favorite on past trips, but my VB quickly took that role over. This has a lot more room and pockets to organize your stuff. In the past, since I had all these pockets, I'd end up taking more. Which made it heavier. But for those of you who need more in the parks, this is a GREAT bag. Would be able to fit a small umbrella in addition to the things I mentioned above. Most sunglasses would fit in it as well. I think this cost around $15.00, but it was from the Eddie Bauer outlet store, so a regular retail store may charge more.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f242/Brooke023/DSC00429.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f242/Brooke023/DSC00430.jpg

Finally, my Coach sling bag. This I would not suggest if it was the only bag you were going to take. Actually, the only reason I take it is because it's brown. I have not found another brownish bag that I like, so I take this one for when I wear brown. :rolleyes1 Actually, the only time I really wear it is when we go out to dinner at night and I wear my brown capris or brown leather sandals with khaki pants/skirt. I don't care if I'm on vacation...a girl has to coordinate!

Anyway, it cost me around $70.00 (maybe a bit less) at the Coach factory store and I use it more at home. Strap is not as long, so it rides a bit close (I wear a size 16).

Yes, I got it on Disneyshopping.com - it matches my suitcase set & laptop case. I don't remember how long ago it was though. If they don't have it, maybe the outlets or ebay would.

I just wanted to say thank you too all those that recommended the Baggallini - Messenger Bag. The one I ordered came in the mail today and I think it's going to be perfect for carrying around in the parks next week!! :woohoo:

We use the JJ Cole diaper bag (we have no kids) but the pockets are useful and the bottle holder is perfect for a bottle of water. The BF wears it the whole time (although he makes me go through security with it).

Although we have it in blue. I think it cost $35 new, but I purchased a second one from a second hand baby store (but it was new with tags) for $12.00.

When the whole family goes I bring my lime green baggalini-messenger bag, with the lime green Mickey tag hanging off of it! But last trip was with my girlfriends "chicks only trip", so I just brought my Vera Bradly backpack pocketbook and it worked out great!

I love my Baggallini messenger bag but I'm looking for one a size smaller. Only problem is it has to have a spot on the outside to hold a water bottle. I can't find one with the little mesh pocket on the outside. Anyone else ever see one?

Way too cool & it looks like much better quality & has much more features than the Baggallini. It is a lot like the Ameribag I ordered & should be receiving this week, but for that price I just might have to order one of these as well & try it out!!!! Thank you for sharing !!!! What a great Disneyworld bag & organizer !!!!!!!!!!

When you click on this site, check out the TravelMate XL in leather. It is twice the size of the $24 one. They do not sale it on the EBAGS site, but it is $59.97 on the Heys Travel Mate site. I may have to try that one instead since it is 50% larger than the $24 one. The $24 one is only 7x9, but it does expand-- so it could be larger. Thanks again for sharing !!!!

We used the baggalini last year. I think this year I may switch to a traditional backpack. I found that the straps slipped on the baggalini and caused back pain when it was hanging.

Our last trip I used this Derek Alexander bag. I have the red one.

http://www.ebags.com/derek_alexander_leather/top_zip_front_zip_organizer/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=83714#testimonialJump

It worked pretty good. I only wish it had a water bottle holder. I have tried so many different bags over the years, I never seem to find a perfect one. Now that my DS is getting older, there is less stuff that I need to bring with us to the parks. I plan to bring this with us again in August, as well as a small adidas backpack and I am also bringing a Vera Bradley hipster. My only concern with the VB is that if we get caught in the rain, it will get soaked! That happened to my sister a few years ago, everything inside the bag was soaked! It was a mess.

Okay guys, I just got my Ameribag Metro New Yorker MicroFiber Bag from Ebags, all I can say is WOW !!!! Super high quality & I am VERY VERY picky!! It was a bit more pricey than the Baggallini, but I LOVE it & it is very stylish. The microfiber has leather on the bottom, sides, & on the zippers, which helps with water & dirt, easy to clean. The microfiber is very high quality, soft, & is treated iwth Dupont Teflon Fabric Protector which repels water & oils based spills (per the tag on the bag). I am obsessive when it comes to organization, but I also don't like too much bulk, this bag has IT ALL!!! You do not need to carry a wallet because the front has credit/debit/Disney card slots. It has tons of pockets as well !!!! Here is the link, check out all the photos & feature of this bag--
http://www.ebags.com/ameribag/metro_new_yorker_messenger_style_bag/product_detail/index.cfm?modelID=92889

They also sale a cotton/twill smaller version called the AmeriBag Metro Manhattan on the Ebags site, I have that on my birthday wish list.

I truly believe there are 2 things that are a must for a GREAT Disney trip.

1. A truly good bag that is very efficient, organized, & does not make you sore. I like this bag because you can swing it to the front or back of you or the side & it is comfortable in all 3 positions. Also, as I mentioned previously, the non-slip cross-body shoulder strap is GREAT. It does not look like the seat belt strap on the Baggallini & it is VERY comfortable!! If you do not like this bag, it can be returned for a full refund, but I think you will like it. Word of caution. I am about 5'3" & 118 lbs. I placed the strap on the shortest length & if I was any shorter, it would be too long I think. So if you are extremely short & very thin, it would be too long for you.

2. The 2nd must have is CROCS !!!!! No sore legs, feet, or back the next morning !!!! Love those CROCS !!

I hope this helps everyone, I wanted to be sure & followup with everyone on my new Disney Bag purchase for 11/30/08 at Wilderness Lodge !!! Can you tell I am sooooo excited??? :santa: :santa: :santa:

The only thing I did not like was there was not any credit card slots/money slots/more organization pockets like that. The AmeriBag Metro New Yorker has tons of organization pockets, I just got it delivered today & posted tons of information about it for everyone. But the Heys does have LOTS of great features as well, it would probably be a great choice as well !!! It just appears to stay near the front of you. The AmeriBag Metro New Yorker I just received today, can be worn on the front, back, sides, & is comfortable & stylish in all 3 locations!! Also, you can switch sides from rt shoulder or left shoulder. I like that because you can get an even suntan while in Florida. :)

Thanks for the info! I really like this bag but think it might be a little too pricey for me. I'll definitely keep it at the top of my list though. Anyone know where I might find one a tad cheaper?

Also wondering about the baggalini, does anyone know if you can wear it different ways comfortably and what they are?

I recently received the Heys bag, so I haven't used it at Disney, but I did use it around town for the day. You can wear it in the back, side or front. I found the side most comfortable, but plan to wear it in the back on my trip.

I like the bag and think it should work well. I was initially worried that the Baggalini may be too big for me and like the size of the Heys bag. However, after the Heys was ordered I saw a Baggalini in person and thought it would have been perfect. But since my mother had already ordered the Heys, I'm going to stick with it.

I liked it the day I wore it, but I was just going to lunch and visiting my SIL, so it didn't really get a "good" workout.

Hope that's helpful! :goodvibes

I can't find a picture of my bag, but it's this little navy bag that says '06 on the back with the characters filled in in the numbers. The bag has two straps so it is like a small backpack.

This is the perfect bag for my family because all we really carry around are our camera, auitograph books and pens. Since it's a backpack type of bag its nice because there isn't pressure on one of your shoulders and the weight is evenly distributed on both shoulders. The straps aren't thick either so it's a really great bag.

This may sound silly but I just purchased one of the lunch totes from DisneyShopping.com to carry around the parks. It has a zipper pocket on the front, a mesh pocket inside to hold all of my cards, change and cash and on the outside there is a stitched Grumpy and MY (not my kids, so they won't be running off with it) name. It has a good length shoulder strap.

I purchased my TravelMate from shopHeys.ca then I returned a messenger bag to ebags and exchanged it for a Travel mate from there as well. I love the Ameribag for a regular bag but for Disney I really wanted something smaller. My biggest thing with the Heys Travel Mate was that it is small yet has lots of pockets and hold a water bottle on the outside. That was a biggie for me. I don't carry much, camera and a few snacks for son and diabetic DH so I don't need a ton of room. It just looked perfect to me. I'll let you know.

We just ordered two of these from Disney Shopping. We used a nike version the last two times and it worked great for us. It was so light weight that you do not even feel it on your back even with quite a bit of stuff in it. I can't wait to use these next time we go:

(Sorry it's so large, I can't figure out how to edit the size of it:( )

My grandmother bought it for me during a trip a few years ago at ASMu. It has a compartment on each side, plus a compartment on the top and also one inside the bag. I love the Mickey on the front, too.

The trip which you can see a photo of above was primarily a "me only" trip. (My grandmother caught my cold the day after we arrived... and I got over the cold. oops). So, it was slightly bulky because I kept a hoodie, poncho, and water bottle in there for that day. Along with my camera, and wallet. It seemed bulky because.. all that just for me? Other than travelling alone and having to carry it just for me, it's a nifty little bag. It travels with me everywhere, not just WDW.

Earlier this year, I bought the Overland Donner and tried it out on a shopping trip with DD13. Didn't like it; it cut into my neck when I tried to wear it across my body (which is what I wanted to do). Sold it on ebay.

Last spring, I carried the lime green baggallini messenger + a fanny pack. I didn't want my tix & fp's or money 'behind' me in the baggalini. It worked fine, but for our trip this summer, I didn't want anything hot on my back.

I bought the Vera Bradley hipster and used that for the 10 nights we were there & it was perfect. DH used a fanny pack & was able to carry a couple bottles of water in the side holders on it, when we had water to carry. For me, the hipster was great. It carried a small tin (a little bigger than an altoids tin) and in that, I carried: moleskin, mini scissors; rolaids, pepto bismol, band-aids, kids chew tylenol & immodium. The purse also carried: ink pen, tix, fp's, tide stick, little Kodak camera, mini notepad, touring plans w/map, cash, id's, insurance card, mini tylenol bottle with numerous meds in it.

I will definatley be taking the same bag, maybe different color, when we go back at Christmas 2009. Can't wait!

Here's the review:

I really like this bag - as it does not have a magnet (unlike other Travelons) - its expandable, has card slots....and its just the right size to carry what I want to bring into the parks - I can wear it all day without taking it off - very convenient bag. (Note: is is a little smaller than the regular Travelon bag - but I find that to be a benefit for in park usage)

It depends on what you want to take. The mini-hipster is small and I think would start to feel really heavy if you stuffed too much in it. I have both and would have used the mini-hipster except I had to carry a bag for autographs. The hipster was comfortable to carry all day, but a little too big for what I would normally bring.

I can't find a picture of me using "my bag" I am the lady behind the camera. However I use Vera Bradley Hipster which RULES and I will tell you why. I have 3 kids 2, 5 and 8. I can get diapers, wipes, suncreen and a sippy cup in this bag. My camera also fits with bibsters and chapstick (my essential item). The front pocket is great for photo pass cards and park admission. The best thing is that it its not on your back making you sweaty and gross!!! I brought it on EVERY ride I went on and just slipped it infront of me with out even taking it off and having to deal with where to put a back pack and whos holding it. Its also small enough to fit in the pocket bag things that they have on some rides to store your stuff ie Soarin and Big Thunder Mountain. The best thing it that its hands free so I can grab kids hands and carry a sleeping baby without feeling like a pack horse! Also the pouch on the side makes a great place for kids to hold onto so as not to get lost and for those time outs when they have to stay with you as they are no longer listening....

Well, I had to send this bag back. The strap was not short enough. On the shortest length, it was still WAY too long. I thought maybe since it was a messenger bag, it was supposed to be that long, but it was WAY TOO LONG!! It came down way past my "bottom" area & it could not be shortened any shorter. So I am ordering the Derek Alexander Top Zip Shoulder Bag, it can be worn across the body or on the shoulder. After ordering a Heys TravelMate from Heys.ca I was notified they don't ship to the US. So I ordered from QVC for even less money: $19.95. It came today and I love it. I will tell you the navy blue one which says navy but looks royal blue is in fact navy. It has pockets everywhere, the strap shortens so you can make it a regular shoulder bag and it has zippers that unzip making the bag bigger if you want. I has a spot for a water bottle which I like, but if you don't have one you just zip it up and it's out of site. It has a zipper on the back that would be up against your body that seems like a good spot for money. The little pocket on the front top is for a cell phone. I have a Blackberry and it won't fit so I'll use it for sunglasses. There is a water proof pocket that I think will be great to carry paper towels and a little frozen blue ice when we go in August. I really like it. The Canada facility has this bag in leather which I'd like for other than WDW, but again, they don't ship to the US and they don't have leather in the US.

Costco currently has some sort of hydration backpack thingy (can't recall the brand). DH likes the feel of it, it is like a narrow backpack, has a decent amount of pockets and the hydration bladder comes out. AND it is only $20.

Although, we went to Legoland and Disneyland back to back and DH wore it both days with the bladder in it full of water and he liked to have water to sip at and the boys discovered daddy had water and sipped it too, kept them hydrated during the heat wave, so PERFECT for Florida, we actually went and bought another.

Love reading all of these posts! I too am searching for the perfect bag. I have a baggalinni messenger and it seems to work well. I used to on a trip to cancun. Now, I want the new Vera Bradley Hipster. They have redesigned it for the fall and it looks like it would work very well. It probably will not hold my camera, but I'll probably have that around my neck most of the time. We will have a stroller, so I am planning on having a backpack with clothes and ponchos in it.

I'd say it all depends on what you want/need to carry. I have a Jansport day backpack that I bought 4 years ago at Dick's Sporting Goods. The current version of it is the Odyssey daypack. I picked the one I did because we had DS4 and DD2 and had to carry everything. It has about 5 separate compartments of varying sizes so I was able to keep food, cameras, hats, clothes, etc, etc separate and easier to find. My wife won't wear it because she says it's too big for her. At first she thought it was enormous and I was crazy but after a few trips with it I think she appreciates it. I like it because it keeps my hands free and reduces the number of bags or backpacks that I have to carry. Another reason I bought it is because it has a waist band that helps lighten the load on my shoulders when it's full of stuff for plane rides.

Again, it is a bigger backpack but with 3 kids under 8 it's been great to carry all of the stuff we and they need. As they get older I'll more than likely downsize.

This looks great, thanks for the link! I want a black one but they are out of stock right now, have asked them to email when they have one in.

You can get them at Zellers in Canada.

Just FYI you need to be careful to check that you get one that is sewn well. Both me and a friend had to exchange them after about a month of as they were coming apart, at the seams.

I bought the Vera Bradley Hipster in the Peacock print for 40% off last week at my local Hallmark. When we go to Disney this is the bag I will take. It seems to be just the right size and I like that it is in front of me rather than behind me. Vera Bradley just came out with some new prints and I want to get the new style hipster in the Puccini print.

I'm taking an L.L. Bean Turbo Sling Bag (Rustic Purple). I've been using it in place of my usual bag for the last few months. It's large enough for my things and the usual toddler necessities. The design and construction are excellent. I got mine for $25 on sale. My only complaint is that the interior is dark ... can be difficult to find items in the large compartment.

For reviews and pictures, check out the following. The color selection is great on-line, but limited in the store.

We carried the Nike mesh day packs. They are cheapp ($12), and don't get too hot on your back. They have the added benefit of the bag checkers being able to see in your bag without having to open them, so it goes a bit quicker;)

Does anyone have this bag? Have they used it at Disneyworld? I will let you know what I think when it arrives on 06/30/08. We get the BEST information here on the DIS boards, so I will be sure to share with everyone !!:santa: :santa: :santa:

Love this bag. Used it for the first time on my last trip. It was perfectly organized for the trip and since I always wear my bags across my body, the design of this bag made wearing it cross-body very comfortable. I bearly knew I had it on and I had it packed with camera, video camera, etc. The only drawback to this bag is that is feels a little awkward when you wear it on one shoulder because of the strap design. But since I only wore it that way very occasionally, it didn't make a difference.

I don't know why more people don't use this bag.

I love the Overland Equipment Placer-- basically a smaller version of the Donner. http://www.shoebuy.com/overland-equipment-placer/23555
The older styles of OE bags (including the Placer) are on sale at Sierra Trading Post right now.:thumbsup2

I put my small camera in the front pocket and my cell phone, ipod, etc. fit into the main body of the bag. My park pass/hotel key/credit cards zip in a safe mesh pocket under the front flap. My sunglasses case goes in the back open pocket. Everything is easily accessible and organized. I like the long, across body strap which is thinner than the one on the Donner.

I have (and like) the Bayliss mentioned upthread, too. It's a bit bigger and has more compartments, but lacks the open back pocket.

I try to pare everything down as much as possible to save my back!

Well the UPS man just delivered my Derek Alexander. Talk about fast, I just ordered it from ebags Sunday. Anyway, it has a little zipper compartment in the top of the bag that is shallow. It'd be perfect for your tickets, or a small camera. It has a big zip compartment behind that is one big compartment with one slip in pocket. There is a zipper in the very back that would be very secure and there is a flap on the front that has a zipper compartment on the front that un-snaps to another compartment. This flap does not have to be opened to get to everything else. There is a compartment on the side but it is more for a cell phone. I don't think it is going to be big enough for a water bottle which is what I really wanted. The strap adjusts to a number of lengths and it seems comfortable. I'm going to carry it a couple of days and will report back.

I am going to try something very small this year. I think I will not even have to go through security with this one. I found this at Hallmark for less than $10 and it will hold my Kodak camera, cell phone, tickets, room key,DDE card, fast passes, chap stick, ID, extra camera battery and SD card. It is amazing how much it will hold to be so small. It came with hand stap and strap that will fit on me like a sling. I am excited about this one, here it is

I just purchased my Vera Bradley Hipster yesterday at our local Navy Exchange. I was originally going to go with the Bagallini but I was afraid with how big it was I'd feel the need to stuff it. I'm planning on carry a lightweight long sleeve shirt in the bottom of the bag (for those freezing cold restaurants), a hopefully easy to fold up poncho, park tickets credit card and etc. Also I'm going to make a mini first aid kit with a few band aids, advil, benadryl, sunscreen and etc. So hopefully this bag will be perfect for it all. Has anyone else ever used this bag? What did you carry in it and do you have pics?

we just ordered the heys travelmate, I'm not sure if it's water proof that seems to be the only drawback. But if you want to protect your goodies pick up a can of camp dry(or any water proofing spray) from your local wal-mart, camping store from the sporting goods section. I used to use this in school for rainy or snowy days on my back packs. 1 application will last three months and works really well. Be sure to really load it on the seams...

I just got my Vera Bradley Kensington Hipster in the mail yesterday (also came from ebags.com). I LOVE it. I'm pretty sure tho that I won't be carrying it around the parks because I'm sure it won't deal well with the heavy rains and I'm not sure that it will hold everything I need to take along. It's a nice size but really not all that big. I also have a Heys Travel Mate arriving in a couple of days ... we'll see what that is capable of holding.

Just found another bag website that has some really great prices on lots of different sized bags:
www.getabag.com

Be sure to look under fanny packs as well because there is a great sized little shoulder tote that is very close to the Derek Alexander bag but it has a mesh bottle holder on the outside for your water.

Also, I took my Derek Alexander to the local embroidery shop today and was going to have a Mickey Mouse put on the front. No can do! She said they don't have a license.

Thanks for all your help. This looks like the bag for me. You can't beat the price. I just checked the QVC website. The shipping cost isn't bad either. :goodvibes

Now as I read further it seems you don't like the bag. I still might give it a try.

The TravelMate bag is perfect except for the flap that covers the front. I haven't returned it and I'm trying to get use to it but so far I just don't like having to open the flap to get to anything. The size is perfect, the weight is perfect and so is the strap, but the flap is in the way. If it had a top zipper above the flap it would be fine but it doesn't. It does have one zipper on the front and I'm trying to use that. I like the bag but for me it isn't the perfect one. The Derek Alexander top zip is great but it doesn't have the water bottle holder which is really a must for me. When I get back from Disney I'm going to make a pattern and make one that is exactly what I want. (Yea right!) I haven't had my sewing machine out in years! :rotfl2:

I love this small backpack, which I've been using for six months or so daily, and plan to use on our WDW trip in December:

http://www.ebags.com/sherpani/vida_special_offer/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=82452

It's comfortable, spacious, with four outside pockets and a zippered inside pocket. It uses magnetic closures, so I don't think I'd put an iPod or cell phone on the outside, but those pockets are great for sunglasses, purell, sunscreen, etc.

Whenever we go to a crowded place (amusement park, ballgame) I also wear a small baggallini "wallet"-type bag, like this:

http://www.ebags.com/baggallini/wallet_bagg_small_rip_stop_nylon/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=20442

In that, I keep ID, credit card & cash, camera, cell phone, sunglasses, a couple of sanitizing wipes, bug repellent wipes, a nail file, lactaid pills for my kid, chapstick, a Burt's Bees lip shimmer, a pen, and I've found I can even fit small laminated copies of my itinerary. It's AMAZING what I can fit in that little sucker. I looooove it.

I don't have this:

http://www.ebags.com/baggallini/ticket_organizer_bagg_microfiber/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=93067

Which is a ticket organizer, but it looks like it might be a good alternative to a lanyard w/ a pouch -- sturdier and roomier!

Edited to add one more bag:

We call this "The Wonder Bag". It's too big in most cases to carry into the parks but in all other ways, it's an ideal carry-on bag that can pass as a 'purse' in your carry-on count. I swear we could live for a week out of this bag:

Re. "magnet closure" bags:

I have had a hotel room key lose its info due to a magnet in my baggellini mini bag, but only if I put it in the pocket with the magnet. If I zip it inside, it hasn't been a problem.

In terms of securuity, we only plan to use the Sherpani bag for ponchos, pipe cleaners, and other non-valuables, and I plan to leave it in the basket under the stroller. Anything valuable will be in my Baggallini minibag or my husband's waistpouch.

If I were trying to carry everything in one bag, then the Sherpani probably wouldn't be a good choice for the parks due to both its massive magnetization and relative lack of security.

I wanted a bag big enough to carry my Birnbaum's Guide for Kids, which has autograph pages in the pack AND good park maps/info all in a reasonably small size. But maybe that's a silly reason to carry a whole bag, and I should find something smaller for autographs!

As a former day camp counselor, pipe cleaners were invaluable in keeping the kids occupied while on field trips or waiting for another group to finish at their stations. It's amazing what some of these kids can create with a length or two of fuzzy wire! I'm not sure if that's what PP uses them for, though...

Hmmmmm...maybe I should add pipe cleaners to my packing list for October...beats carrying a Nintendo DS around the parks...

(Sorry it's so large, I can't figure out how to edit the size of it:( )

I had that same bag in high school. I used it now and then for my notebooks and stuff, but it really can't handle anything too heavy (not that you would bring heavy things to Disney anyway). The only drawback I could see to bringing it is the straps aren't very padded and if you're wearing a tanktop it'll probably irritate your skin after a while. Plus it's just HUGE inside (I had used it partially for a backpack in high school) so you might be tempted to bring more than you need.

I think I'm going to get a VB Mini-Hipster. There's a store a street over from my work that has hundreds of VB bags, so I'll have to spend a lunch break looking for one. (My coworker actually won a Puccini tote bag from the store a few weeks ago. It's so cute!)

Men just don't get the "need" for bags, do they?
Must ... NOT ... order ... another .... bag!
Since checking this thread out I've ordered a VB Hipster that I love but will not be carrying into the park, I just don't want it getting drenched in a downpour. My Travel Mate arrived yesterday ... I'll be giving that one a test-run this weekend with a trip to Wal-Mart and the grocery store ... I really think I'm going to like it. Just hope I'll be able to clip Pal Mickey onto it in the Parks. He traveled clipped to my fanny pack last trip.

Well men can also fit more than a pinky finger in their pockets, which I suppose helps.

Light cotton skirts and even some capris don't even have pockets.

Yes, it is soft, comfortable, & does not rub. It is a very light bag & the quality is excellent. I am VERY happy with this bag!! Notice the dimensions on the previous posts. It is not a huge bag, but it can hold everything that you need at your finger tips. An umbrella (small compact one), some ponchos, water, camera, credit cards, money, park tickets, fast passes, cell phone, etc.....

I'm crazy about bags too. I've ordered 2 Vera Bradley hipsters and one tote. I love them but they aren't going to Disney. I have ordered 2 Heys Travel Mates, I thought they would be perfect but after carrying them for a few days I really didn't like the front flap. Then I found the Derek Alexander top zip and it is perfect except it doesn't hold a water bottle. So, as a last resort, I went to JoAnn's bought some black mesh and put a mesh bottle holder on it where the cell phone holder was. It is now perfect! I love the little top zip pocket that is not very deep. It will be perfect for the tickets (card keys) and a little money. It's a shame they don't come in cooler colors though. I absolutely love the animal prints the Baggallini messenger now comes in.

The flap isn't bothering me as much as I thought it would because there the zip pocket on the front flap, the zip pocket on the back and the cell phone pocket. I figure this way anything else I want to put in the main compartments will be tucked away safely. Oh and Pal Mickey clips on well too.

Thank you :) I think I might order it, I just hope I like it!

That sounds like a great idea. Can you post a pic so we can all see the modifications you made? Thanks :thumbsup2

[/url]

This is exactly what I was loking for! Do you think it would hold a medium sized Sony point and shoot camera? It's not a really small camera like a coolpix because it is an 10x optical zoom but still fits a medium sized camera bag.

My DH wears a really nice waist pack that fits vid. camera, sunscreen, batteries, snacks, etc. But I would like to have the camera on me since I am the main picture taker. Other than that if it fits chapstick and sunglasses Im happY!

doesn't look that big but very organized. It holds everything in safe and organized way.

I researched this bag as well- $19.95 for leather?? I was a bit skeptical. After I read the customer reviews, I decided against this bag for quality reasons.
Does not appear it would hold up too well for Disney vacations. :santa: :santa: :santa:

For those of you who have used this bag:

I bought this bag - it is really nice - but I was wondering, do you think I will need a pad for the shoulder strap? I was thinking of making one as all the ones I have found are too big and bulky.

Thanks so much!

Wow, sorry I missed this question!:flower3:

I wore it last month when I was wearing just a T and it did bother my neck by the end of the day. When I take it in December it will have a few more things in it since the kids will be with us. I will definitely be doing something wiith the strap.

I was there last December and because I was wearing a fleece the days I was there it was fine.

I know I was suprised by the bad reviews. Alot of the reviews were regarding the color which may be true. I know, because I originally ordered the tan and I sent it back and got the basic black. I love it & have not had any problems. I have used it often. I love the easy access cell phone pocket and the secret hiding place for cash ( its a zipper pocket that that put on the back side that is facing you that way no one can pick pocket you). I had orginally purchased it when I though I was going on the Disney Med Cruise. My mother loved it so much she bought one and is very happy with hers.

I changed my mind and bought this bag.

I bought it at Target for $29.99. It is a little bigger than what I wanted. I found another brand that was a little smaller but didn't seem to be made as well as this one. One thing I like about it is it has a rubber bottom on it, so maybe it will last. It does have the water bottle holder and has many compartments.

I haven't decided on a bag for myself as yet, but I bought both of my daughters the VB mini hipsters when a local shoe store had them for 50% off. They'll either be Christmas gifts or part of their Welcome to Disney gift. They can carry their own money, KTTW, chapstick, camera, sunglasses with the strap knotted to adjust the strap length. My bag will need to be larger, to accomodate water, ponchos, sunscreen, etc. and also waterproof or water resistent. That way, if it starts to rain or we go on a wet ride, the girls' mini hipsters can go in my bag. I'm leaning toward the Bagallini, but still undecided.

hi there, i am always looking for the "perfect" bag...well, i think i have found it...in 06 we used my baggalini which we really liked on our DL trip...in 07, we used my heys, which unfortunately didnt make it home as it started to tear and went in the garbage...we then went back to the baggalini...someone on the dis posted a link to this bag, which i bought and love, so much so that it has become my everyday bag...what i can fit in here is incredible and it doesnt bulk up...it is also comfortable to lug around...

I never bring a bag to DW we just fit what we need in our pants pockets, we dont need to bring much. Here's what we bring:

Camera -wear around wrist or put in pocket
Videocam- wear strap around shoulder
Hand Sanitizer-mini size in pocket
camera batteries-pocket
wallet-one person holds the room keys in there
mp3 player-pocket
strip of paper w/ adr info on it-pocket

I would hate to have to carry a bag, not only do you have to stand in a line before they let you in to check your bag, but i'd end up leaving it somewhere!

Sorry for the delay, Paula70! I missed this post!

My camera is a Canon Elph -- a point and shoot digital camera. In my little baggallini mini bag, it fits in next to my cell phone and basically takes up the space in the main pocket. It's a pretty small camera, though I've seen smaller. My husband's Olympus digital also fits. If you don't have your cell phone in it, I bet your bigger camera would fit.

ebags is offering free shipping on a lot of items today, along with a 10% off code -- ONL104ME. They have free return shipping, too, so you could always try it and if it doesn't work out, send it back!

PS -- the four "old" colors of the Vera Bradley Hipster are $31.99 today, plus 10% off, plus free shipping. I'm tempted myself, even though I have a bajillion bags already!

I just got my Vera Bradley hipster in Kensington. It's awesome! It's actually bigger than I expected, and I love it. It has become my regular purse--not just a WDW bag--as I have back problems that have become aggravated by my usual big, heavy bags I like to carry. I do realize that if it rains at WDW, we will be in trouble, but as part of the contents I plan for the bag to hold are ponchos and Ziplocks, I am hoping not to have a problem. I am so, soooo tempted to order one or two more colors just to add variety, but we'll see. The fabric I bought mine in goes with black and brown, but I'd love to have one that's more summery as well. Oh, and I love the way the strap adjusts...just going to grocery store, I like to carry it on my shoulder with the strap shortened. But it can be adjusted in a flash to carry across the body. AWESOME!!! Thank you all for your posts--you have been so helpful in your descriptions of the various bags. Actually, there are several I probably would have been just as happy with, but this one was fairly economical--and CUTE. :)

I think I have a bag problem! We leave in 2 weeks and I was planning on bringing my Vera Bradley Hipster and a small black/pink Adidas backpack but now I see the bag that jakoky posted from ebags and I want it!

I think I have tried just about every bag! When my DS was little I used a Disney tote bag (the one sell in the parks). I have tried the baggallini and the Overland Donner, wasn't thrilled with either. I also used a regular size backpack, too big ! I used the small Adidas backpack last year and it worked pretty well, except no bottle holder. I also have a Derek Alexander which I used for a Mom's Weekend away, again no bottle holder.

I just tried it and it does fit. However, on the actual water bottle side, there is a mesh holder that holds the bottle in very well. On the ipod side, there is a holder, but it doesn't come up as high as the mesh one on the other side, so it makes the bottle much less stable. I hope that makes sense. We always just share one bottle and get it refilled as necessary. Carrying more than one gets too heavy for me.

The Vera Bradley Hipster and the Sherpani Cres both arrived today! Yay! But...neither seems to be perfect for me. *sigh*

When I put everything in the Hipster, it felt really heavy and hung awkwardly on my hip. Nice comfy strap, though, I'll give it that!

The Cres is basically the same size as my mini baggallini, but without the awesome organizational features of my baggallini. It held everything except my prescription sunglasses in their case, which I think I will probably need in my bag (rather than in the "junk" bag in the stroller that's going to hold a change of clothes, sunscreen, light jackets, and snacks/water).

So I'm returning those and ordered a NorthFace "Roo" instead -- yes, I'm going to be one of those folks wearing a waist pouch. I even have a small one for my DD7 to wear with her autograph book, pen, lollipops, penny press money and her "lovey" in it!

For anyone that can sew you can order the mesh material that holds your water bottle from Collins Cottage Industries. I found some Mickey material at Walmart, ordered the mesh and I'm going to make one bag just for fun, at least I'm going to try. Also, I used the mesh to add a bottle holder to a bag I liked that didn't have one. :thumbsup2

Hope these pictures help... (and let me tell ya, I HATE pix of myself but for the greater DIS good...)

I have a baggallini (sp?) messenger. Got it on clearance @ REI online.

I don't like purses - I have a healthy back bag from L.L. Bean and I hate it. (gasp!) I'm a "money and license in the back pocket" kind of gal. But we knew we'd need something for a water bottle, tickets, car keys, sunscreen, etc. LOVE the messenger bagg! okay....

Here's a shot showing the bag's regular position for the week:

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj235/lindsmom2001/DSCF2474.jpg

I just realized the bag is almost the same color as my shirt, but you can see it. I'm not a petite person (ahem), but this bag was very comfortable. I've seen other people mention (on other boards) that they found the strap too short, but it's actually very adjustable. There are two slide buckles to adjust, making the strap REALLY long. You could also shorten the straps and wear it over one shoulder like a purse; mine slid off a bit, but I'd do it if we were going in and out (like from car to restaurant, etc).

This picture doesn't show the bag too much, except for one VERY important feature:

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj235/lindsmom2001/img027.jpg

Okay... I don't tell just anyone to stare here, but you see that strap going, um, between "the girls" ? THERE is a zipper pocket that hides in the strap. The company says it's for a cell phone, but my cell is a flip phone and didn't fit. However, we kept all our tickets RIGHT THERE the whole week. Believe me when I tell you I had NO WORRIES about someone trying to steal our tickets (I would LIKELY notice :) ) Also, I didn't worry about the tix falling out of a pocket, or falling out if we took something out of the bag.

Last picture (sorry so long here) - and please DO NOT mention to DH that I'm posting this, but it's proof that a guy MAY wear it:

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj235/lindsmom2001/HPIM0321.jpg

You can also see the strap against your neck - I actually didn't mind too much - I found my camera strap hurt - but this strap was smooth enough. Although toward the end of the day, I preferred to tuck a shirt collar underneath, as he is NOT demonstrating here.

Hope this helps!

Even with a 3 and 7 year old we pack lightly for the parks.

I'm so glad you started this thread! I read all the comments and surfed the Internet. I was thinking about a Sherpani XO 08 (which I think is incorrectly listed on ebags as far as the measurements go - I think it is much smaller than it is stated). I might still order that as it will be bigger than the next one.

I did find this:

http://fog.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/p1781983dt.jpg

It's by The North Face and it's called Paige. It is a woman specific bag and it's small (much like a purse) but the Passporter fits in it and it appears that there would still be room for a wallet, small snacks, etc. There are two outside pockets for tickets, etc. and acamera, mesh pocket that I think could be used for a small water bottle. I found it at T. J. Maxx for $16.99. The downside to this one is the straps - no padding but the bag itself weighs only 8 ounces and since you can't stuff it full of anything big or heavy - perhaps the straps will be fine. I'm going to carry it to work a couple of days and see how it feels back and forth to the train.

Thanks for the reply! :goodvibes I don't usually carry my cell so I may just give it a try. Unfortunately I was gone for the last 5 days but I'm going to keep watching those sales on ebags! :thumbsup2

I found Baggallini bags today at The Paper Store! No sales, but it was great to see the different styles and try them on. LOVE these bags in the crinkle nylon. The strap on the messenger bag wasn't rough against my neck at all. I think this will be a new collectible for me.

Off to order it! I'm getting it at Shoebuy like havinfun... $28.04 (free shipping!) for the black crinkle nylon (wish they had it in leaf, but I'll get that one for next time. :) )

I am so glad you saw the bag and liked it. I was just ordering it and had never seen it. Thanks for posting. You made me feel better about ordering this one. :cool1:

Ok, I didn't need to see that bag ... love the holes for Jibbitz on it (would be perfect for my Disney Jibbitz). Must resist the urge to buy! Just googled the bag too and it looks like you can ge it from www.dickssportinggoods.com for $19.97. Wonder if I could justify buying it by telling DH that I knew he wouldn't want to carry my pink Heys Travel Mate?

I just wanted to let everyone know that if the bag you decide on does not come with a shoulder pad - I am pretty sure you will need one. I have the Overland Donner and it definitely needed one!

I found the perfect one in the Walmart auto department - a seatbelt pad - they have lots of different ones and they are between $3 and $6! I bought a plain one and I am going to decorate with my small pin collection.

Just FYI because it made mine waaaay more comfortable to wear all day!:cool1:

I am new to the site, but have used it a lot the last 6 months preparing for my upcoming trip on August 3rd staying at CBR and decided to join the posting when I felt I had something to offer. I have this great bag I use for hiking and day trips made by Mountainsmith. It is lightweight and has a lot of room. It also has the added benefit of being made from 25 recycled plastic bottles. It isn't cheap at $80.00, but if I can have a great bag and do my small part for the enviroment, then it was worth it!

You can get them at Mountainsmith .com, the bag is the in the lumbar recycled series called the Day recycled bag. It has a padded shoulder strap as well can be worn as a lumbar bag.

The water bottle holders is a real must for me. I actually ordered that material on line to put a 2nd holder on another small bag we are using for the trip. When my neighbor showed me the material and said she was making me a bag and another neighbor a diaper bag I said, Oh wait, I've got bottle holder material coming that you can use. Both items turned out so cute. She's trying to find out if she can sell some at a craft fair without getting into any trouble. She said Disney is pretty funny about stuff like that. I figured since she bought the material and made her own pattern it wouldn't be a big deal. She's not mass producing or anything. She wasn't sure.
Anyway, the bag is so cute. Not too big, not heavy, has 2 pockets on the inside and best of all, no big deal if it gets wet - it's washable.

Well, thanks to all the good info here, I narrowed down my bag choice to 3: Baggallini Crinkle Messenger Bag, Piazza Day Bag, and Ameribag Metro New Yorker. I ordered them from EBags.com with the back-to-school discounts. Here's what I thought:

Baggallini - lots of pockets with many organizers inside, outside pocket for water bottle, roomy big pocket in the back. Comfortable on my shoulder. I liked it the best and will keep it. Only strange thing is that you have to wear it on your right shoulder with the bag on your left hip. I wanted to wear it on my right hip since I carry my purse on my right side. Just something to get used to. Can't wait to try it out in October. :yay:

Piazza Day Bag - very nice bag, but I thought it was too small for me. Several pockets and a comfortable fit. May try it next year when my boys are older and I can use a smaller bag. Returning.

Ameribag Metro NY - wonderful bag, excellent material and quality construction. I'm 5'4", and the bag sat too low below my hips. The buckle was on the shortest notch. Shoulder strap has some rubbery material that helps it cling better to your shoulder. A very big flap covered the front of the bag. It would bug me to constantly lift up the flap to get to my stuff. Returning.

I just this one in after ordering from this post. It is the perfect size for us. I didn't like the baggelini. For me the bigger the bag the more I carry. THis bag has a few seperate pockets. Thanks for the suggestion. I cannot wait to use it!

I recently purchased a wonderful bag that I am very excited to use! It's the Overland Place, the smaller sibling to the Overland Donner. I've been looking for a small crossbody bag to use (I don't like backpack style bags), and I finally found one that is tiny yet spacious! If you are looking for a small bag that won't weigh you down, yet carries everything you need, consider the Place. Sierra Trading Post has them on sale: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/,97469_Overland-Equipment-Placer-Bag-.html

I will be bringing a regular size backpack to keep in my stroller with the bulk of my supplies (I got one by High Sierra), but I'm still deciding on what bag to use for valuables/neccesities to wait in line with and bring on the rides.

I'm currently deciding between two bags of the bags that I received -- the Baggallini messenger/sling in black crinkle nylon and the REI Nikole Day bag in black which is a backpack/sling. I've bought and returned at least a half dozen bags from ebags so I could test pack them, and decide what works for me.

The Baggallini fits everything I need with plenty of room to spare, and with the addition of a seatbelt shoulder pad which I still need to get, I'm sure it will be comfortable on my shoulder -- without the pad, the bag is too close to my neck to be comfortable without the additional padding. The REI Nikole bag gives me the added benefit of being able to wear it as a backpack if I end up being bothered by a strap across the front of my chest, but it's bigger than I need, and heavier than the Baggalini. Also, it's a bit more akward to use because it has less pockets/compartments, and it's deeper so things will fall to the bottom.

I'm still on the lookout for more options though. I will definitely bring a small lightweight backpack and a nylon drawstring bag just in case the bag I bring ends up not working for me. Since I'm driving (from Miami) and I don't have to worry as much about how much I pack, I'd rather pack a few options because I've been on a few vacations that were made less convenient by bringing the wrong bag.

Knowing me, I'll probably buy something at the park that will end up being the bag of choice.

I just ordered a Heys bag from HSN. It was a couple of dollars cheaper than the ebags price, and the shipping was around $6. I was debating about the baggalini, but for the price difference and all the "bonuses", I decided the Heys was the winner for me.
Here's hoping!!!

I just got the cutest Mickey backpack from the Disney Store that i"ll be using on our next trip. We have small kids (1 in diapers) so we need a little more room. This back pack has pockets on each side that holds both kids thermos' well, a big compartment for change of clothes, towel, ponchos or any larger items, another big compartment (that is as tall as the first but not as wide) and 2 small compartments. The small compartment on the top has slots for cards and ID. The small compartment on the bottom is big enough to carry diapers and a pack of wipes. And best of all, it has a very cute pic of the mouse on it :goodvibes I love it and have been using at a diaper bag already. The straps are padded and very comfortable and it can be personalized. They have other characters too. It's on sale right now for $12.99

Try looking at Sam's Club or Costco for a camelback. I bought a nice one for DH for $24.99 I think around Father's day.

This bag can be worn on one shoulder or across the body. It is comfortable in front, back, or on the side-- which makes it great for getting on/off of rides.

I also carry a DisneyWorld bag I bought years ago for souvenirs, snacks, jackets. It is lightweight, waterproof, awesome, & has been a staple for years. The crinkle nylon version is water resistant (the rip stop nylon one isn't). None of them are water proof. I'm going to use my "camp dry" waterproofing spray on mine for extra protection.

I picked the crinkle nylon because it seemed softer and more durable than the rip stop (it's definitely a thicker material). And I ordered it in black so that the man won't feel funny wearing it and sharing the load. It looks just fine on him.;)

In my eternal quest for the Perfect Bag, I found this:

http://www.verabradley.com/Site/Store/ProductDetail.aspx?colorid=81&sku=10378%3a81

It's a Vera Bradley Hipster, but it's not the same kind I ordered in patterned cotton and returned. It's a little bigger, it's made of black microfiber, and it has a wealth of organizational pockets both inside and out.

I actually found one of these in a store in Florida last week and almost bought it then for $72, but waited until I got home and found it on sale at the VB site for $54! It has outside pockets, two inside slip pockets, pen holders and a small outside slip-in pocket. I think it may be The One! *fingers crossed*

I love the Donner for the airport. I prefer the smaller Placer once I get to WDW. If I have a bigger bag, I'll fill it up with things I just might need (or wind up carrying my compadres' stuff). At the end of the day my back will be killing me, so I'm better off with a smaller bag with limits!:)

The OE Loie style is also excellent. It's been discontinued, but can be found on sale on the web. It's about the size of Donner, but a different shape with a thinner strap. Those cross body styles with organizational features are so handy for travel.

It was the small one and was all we needed. We did not carry a book with us, but had my Palm, a water bottle (fit nicely in an outside pocket), band-aids, suntan lotion, wipes, maps, itinerary, wallet, sunglasses, etc.

What we loved was all the pockets. Made it easy to put our hands right on whatever we were looking for. The zip pockets were good for the really important things, like room keys, and other pockets to stick maps, fast passes and such in and have them easy to grab out. It was also a nice bag to have on the plane.

We did NOT carry extra clothes, socks or make-up. We are fairly low maintenance girls. <G>

I have a Baggalini Messenger in Red. Used it in April at WDW. It was AWESOME. So many pockets, so light, so easy to use. It's my Disney bag. However, I do have a Vera Bradley Hipster that I love (in Night Owl). I used it in las Vegas two weeks ago, and it worked great. Not as much storage space as the Baggallini, which works if I'm just hauling stuff for myself. For all three of us, I'll need the Baggalini. (Vera has a Mini Hipster that is cute as a button, too.)

I had a young man (probably in his mid 20's ... that's young to me) make a rude comment about my fanny pack while standing in line for one of the rides. I pointed out to him that if he were chasing after 5 kids at Disney someday he may consider wearing one as well. We actually ended up chatting with him and his girlfriend while waiting for the ride. Guess the fanny pack just turned out to be a conversation starter.

Island Cricket, my husband and daughter will both be using fanny packs, and I may be, too, if I can't find anything else I like better. I wouldn't worry about what anyone else thinks -- Your back, neck, and shoulders will thank you at the end of the day if you're wearing all the stuff instead of carrying it. :)

Waist packs 1) keep your stuff secure, 2) are convenient on rides, and 3) are much easier on your back than a messenger bag, shoulder bag, or backpack.

The big drawback for me (and the reason I'm still fussing over what bag to take) is that it's hard to find one big enough for everything I want to carry, but still small enough to be relatively unobtrusive. I just got an Everest butt pack for $8.95 from Amazon that has two big pockets plus two outside pockets -- one big enough for my camera, the other big enough for my cell phone -- that may suit me just fine. Only problem is there's not really room for ponchos, snacks, and "Line Tamers". But I guess that's what my hubby's butt pack is for! ;)

DisneyNDecember,

I got my bag today and I love it even thought I just took it out the box. I was using a bag that I got from walmart. That bag was ok purpose, but things would become lost in it. I do love the pockets and do not have to carry a wallet. My friend who is going with me ordered the olive (green?) one.

I know, I love my Derek Alexander as well. The size, the organization, the weight, it is a PERFECT Disneyworld bag !!!! I can't wait until 11/30/08!!

I just don't get the fascination with the Vera Bradley bags? I think they are a bit "loud" looking, they are not even waterproof, & they do not have enough organization areas for me, but that is why these boards are so great, you can find what works for you & be open to new ideas !! :santa: :santa: :santa:

I loved the waist pack that we used in 2006! :thumbsup2 It came reccomended by a some people on these boards. It is High Sierra brand (Not sure exactly which one-they have a ton of options!) I bought it on ebags and used the mousesaver disc. What I loved about ours was it came w/ a shoulder strap, so we could wear it both ways. Actually my DH wore it most of the time-what a trooper. Seriously he didn't mind it one bit! Actually he said he would never in a million years carry a backpack (and I won't either!) so this was a great option! ( I just used a small cross body purse for keys, money chapstick, etc.)

The pack fit a small camcorder, point and shoot camera, snacks, drink mixes, hand sanitizer, sunglasses and more. But believe it or not it doesn't look that big on. The hands free aspect alone was worth the fashion faux paus (sp)! Never once had to take it off for a ride! :goodvibes

I agree that there are a ton of bags out there and this is a great thread to see all kinds of options! Im already eyeing out a couple of cross body purses for our 2009 trip!:woohoo:

Here's a pic of my DH wering it across his body.

I use a mini DaKine backpack. I got for about $20 at Zumiez when it was on sale. I love DaKine! I have two of these mini ones, the style is Cosmo, and then one big one that my laptop can fit in. They come in 10 different patterns and colors so there's lots to choose from, and they have a lifetime guarantee!

It's small and light weight. It also has a lot of little compartments in one of the pockets for my park stuff. I love this brand so much! You can get them at Zumiez or REI, or online!

I just got my Heyes bag, and it's so cool! Expandable, water bottle holder, LED light, mirror, passport holder, plastic pocket...seriously, for less than $25, could you ask for more??? So, if you're looking for a more wallet friendly alternative, you might want to check out the Heyes bag. I got mine at HSN.

I tried out my Baggalini messenger yesterday for the balloon festival here on Long Island. I didn't even get out the door with it. I pulled everything out and went with my $10 LL Bean little sling bag. (another purchase thanks to the budget board!)

This is what I had in there - 4 water bottles, an xl sweatshirt, a child's sweater (very thin) a small thing of wipes - not the plastic hard one, soft pouch type, a roll of charmin toilet paper - travel size and my license and credit card. Fit all in the bag with squishing it as I zipped it, but once I put it on across my chest, it was horrible. It pushed up my **** and layed on my neck. Granted, I overstuffed it. But I think with the weight of the 4 water bottles, it's just too heavy to sit across your chest like that.

I put all that stuff mentioned in a small sling and it was much better because it doesn't squish your chest or draw everyone's eyes there! A sling can get tiresome on one shoulder, so even though it's not meant to be on the other one, I switched for a few minutes and it was fine.

I can't see packing much lighter for a day in the WDW parks, so I might have to find a different solution. Maybe get everyone to carry their own water!

I was just looking at ebags and saw the weirdest bag I have ever seen. Take a look at this and tell me if you would actually wear this. Be sure to click on the picture of the woman wearing it.

It doesn't show the back, but I guess the larger bag is on her back and the smaller bag is on her chest:rotfl2:

Just got back from WDW today. There were Vera Bradley's everywhere. I saw those carrying only their passes and some money using the wristlet but saw probably 100 small back packs and even a couple of the large backpacks. They are so lightweight I can see why this bag would work well. Pinwheel pink seemed to be the color of choice but there was a lot Blue Mesa and a few Cafe Latte. I really couldn't believe how many there were. There were a lot of hipsters too but not as many as the back packs.

Thanks for the update! I love my backpack, but it's more than I want to carry every day. I'm still looking for a good deal on the hipster for my trip.
