Delighted to help. I may need some huge help in the next couple of days. I'm discovering the Island of Storms is very unkind to Storm Wizards. Talk about fizzles! Then too, the big meanies are mostly storm themselves and resist all my good spells. Yes, my friend, even the big guy you admired so much and my poor little storm shark barely gets a hit of 200 over there. Grrr. Have had to dust off some fire spells.

It is really important to make use of those storm prisms when you are storm fighting storm. Also may want to stack your deck a bit heavier with your secondary school attack cards and use the storm boosts whenever you can if you don't have a prism available. This is a level 33 storm vet talking. ;)

Was anybody having problems tonight with their cards. When I was in a fight tonight I had 6 pips but the only cards coming up were 0,1&2. I even tried to discard but than nothing came up. And I do have 3,4 & 6.

YES! If they see that other Life Wizards are having issues, maybe they'll fix it! I posted this on the Wizards forum, too. :)

Yes! All I was getting were my 0 pip cards, even though I had 4 or 5 pips available. I desperately needed my pixie card for life and no matter what I did, I couldn't get them to come up. I even tried buying some pixie treasure cards and stacking them in. No matter what I did, they wouldn't come up. I got tired if being defeated, so I quit for the night.

Yes! I had major issues with the cards yesterday, to the point I ran out of spells! Not only was I not getting 2 & 3 PIP spells, but when I did they were all FIZZLE! The only spells I could make work were the wand sparks and shields/enchantments. I should have taken a screen shot of that...surrounded by shields, NONE of them the shield I needed, btw...waiting to be picked off...
It was also very laggy the past two or three days. I hope there's a new patch coming soon to address all the lag. I've noticed a larger than usual amount of players, especially in the Commons area of Wizard City. I wonder if that's what causing the new bugs we're experiencing now?

The lag was very strange last night. I was going after my minion quest in Unicorn Way. Suddenly, instead of watching in "movie mode", I would see the action as a bunch of delayed "movie stills". Like a slide show. And I noticed that I'd get slammed with buffs and debuffs and end up using all of my faeries to heal.

But the most annoying thing is that once you're a target, ALL of the bad guys want a piece of you. I noticed that when you were helping me, but I noticed it when I was helping others, too.

I changed realms about 1/2 way through the evening to help with that. Seemed to help some.

When my friend and I play I'm never, and I mean NEVER, am the target. It is just bizarre. :wizard:

I'm thinking of the following as run start times and groups. Please respond back and indicate if the time is ok.

Morning Run (10 am Eastern)
Leader - DesertCat
Autumn DayBreaker
Cardinal
(open slot)

Afternoon Run (2 pm Eastern)
Leader - Shelby
Briar
Matthew
Angus HexBlade

Based on your feedback, I'll try to make any adjustments by 8 pm (eastern) today.

The only problem is that Matthew, while being on my list, isn't on DIS as far as I know, and I don't know when he'll be playing. I think I mentioned it offhand because we were attempting this quest late at night. So I'd keep him off this list for now.

This just got posted ten minutes ago at Wizard 101 forum.

We are doing some server testing this weekend, and it is possible you may lose your connection. If this happens you should be able to log back in immediately. We apologize for any inconvenience! Have fun this weekend!

May or may not be a good weekend to look for Grubb's.

Now you know what life is like for a Pyromancer in the Pyramid of Fire!!!

At least by the time you get to Island of Storms you should have some high-powered storm and secondary spells. Whereas we poor Pyros, fresh from Wizard City, have nothing stronger than Sunbird in our deck -- which is an awesome 3-pip spell usually, but can have its damage power reduced to that of a little Life Imp by all the resistance it encounters. (When it doesn't fizzle, of course.)

Also the Fire Prism spell, which changes Fire spells to Ice, might look good on paper -- until you realize that one of the first spells every bloody Nirini casts is an -80% Snow Shield! So you can't win. I've even taken to running around with a Life wand twig instead of my Fire staff -- just so my little 0-pip bursts have some effect!

Thank goodness my secondary school for that wizard is Life! I've needed every healing spell I can lay my hands on (including stacking my Treasure Cards with additional Pixies and wearing a Ghoul amulet).

I do not think I will create a Fire Wizard again, unless they seriously adjust the balance of the game. The Pyramid, as it presently stands, is just too darn frustrating to slog through for a Pyro. (Whereas my Myth Wizard practically sailed through the Pyramid and is now 2/3rds of the way through Krokosphinx).

My pre-wipe Pyromancer made it all the way up to and through the Tomb of the Beguiler -- (you should plan on spending several hours on that one, btw) -- but the post-wipe Pyramid has been extremely inhospitable to him. I can't wait to get out of there and to Krokosphinx (except my Myth Wizard has noticed that the mobs there now tend to throw -80% Fire Shields right off the bat. ARRRRG. They didn't use to do that either, pre-wipe.)

Yes I know the pyramid of fire is tough for fire wizards. I helped one through there and he just helped me through storm. Love the way we wizards work together.

Still need the beguiler but am saving that for when others need it too since Shelby warned me it was a long one. Hope to get to it tomorrow. Oh and can help with the grubs if needed - probably afternoon session.

Speaking of which, what is the point of the Beguiler (giant spider)? It does not appear to be a main story quest so, outside of experience, is it a good quest to undertake? Only reason I ask is I want to make sure it is worth it before begging help for it.

It seems as if some of the server testing may have already started. With that in mind I would like to postpone the scheduled Grubb run until next week. Having just lost my connection in a fight, I think the cautious thing to do would be to wait. Any other opinions out there?

Tomb of the Beguiler is like Sunken City/Grubb: tangential to the storyline and not needed to progress. I did it the night before the wipe and can't remember what the reward was like, only that it took forever to complete. (Had I but known...) Seriously, it made Sunken City look like a walk in the park!

My Myth Wizard will probably be on the Island of Storms this weekend. (He only has Emperor's Retreat to finish on Krokosphinx.) I'd be willing to take a stab at the Tomb, although I'm a bit concerned about the "possible disconnect" notice posted above. I have nightmare visions of us finally facing the Beguiler, only to be dc'd. I don't think my computer would survive my wrath at that point...

FYI, the developers have posted on the official site that there should be an update next week to address most (if not all) of the "Monster Difficulty" issues that have been raised since the wipe. Therefore, it might be worth it to wait until the following weekend before taking on Sunken City and/or the Tomb.

If we wait we will all be stronger by then. Maybe by then I can ask you
to help me though that obilisk puzzle in Krokotopia again. Did you ever write down
the sequence?

You know when I when through that whole thing, I said this "Padic" is

and my opinion still stands.

Yes with the disconnect issue, I'd say a wait on lengthy tasks is a good idea. Thanks for the offer, LittleWoodenHead, I think I'll wait until the game is a bit more stabilized since it is a side quest. No reason I can't go back and complete it later.

I am at Level 5, but I'm thinking what I need to do before going much further is practice in the arena - a lot. (Have not actually done that yet.)

My biggest handicap is going to be the inability to process several pieces of information quickly. The whole battle/card deck interface is so overwhelming, and I have trouble deciphering what's going on during a fight. I was just picking cards blindly and praying up until my last battle (Lady Blackhope) where I managed to select a Level 2 card in time to finish her off. Keeping track of stats on enemies and fellow combatants as well as myself is going to be a huge challenge.

Will have to see if this gets to a point where the battles are more enjoyment than dread. I love the atmosphere and graphics of the game, but so far my favorite part has been running around catching wisps. :p

Speaking of running, is there any way to control your direction more accurately than just the four arrow controls on the keyboard?

bevgray
07-11-2008, 09:06 PM
We still need to meet up, aliceblue. Will you be on tomorrow? If so, let me know when and I'll try to find you. I'll be glad to help you with some of your battles.

You may also want to give some thought as to which school you want to make your second since you will start receiving training points. It is best to focus on just one other school so that you'll have strong spells in the secondary discipline.

As to direction, no the controls remain a bit loose for me too. This can get difficult in some of the tighter areas but you'll get the feel of it.

The card battle system is a bit daunting. Practice will help so that the cards will soon fall into a rythym for you.

Okay, just started Marleybone. How the heck do you avoid the rats on the Hyde Park rooftops or should I be looking for a way down to the street level or what? I can't find a way down and the rats catch me no matter what I do. The wall walk that helped avoid fights in the previous world doesn't seem to work on these rooftops?

I found the up/down arrows to move and moving the mouse with the right button depressed to steer to be very effective. The mouse sensitivity may have to be adjusted to your preference.

I have an ice wizard with a minor in life. When I got to the Balance School on Krokosphinx Island and chose training it seemed to be willing to let me choose any of 3 different level shield spells. If I wait till my level gets higher (20 now) will it also let me choose higher level spells without any of the lower?

Unlike the other places you've been, you need to run straight down the middle of the roofs. You can stand on the grates, between roof sections to wait for the enemies to cross your path. Just watch them...they walk the same patterns over and over, so never walk onto a roof section while they are crossing it; only while they are walking along the sides.:)

Also don't stand to close to the edge of the grate...try to stay in the middle as much as possible because you can get sucked into a street fight from an edge. It takes a little bit of practice, but Sir Padric, who deserves some kinda Dis Award for being Mr. Nice, showed me and Cheryl the right way and from then on piece of cake.:wizard:

I currently have 3 quests open. I am on Krokospinx Island.

1.) I have 3 beatles left to find: Temple of Storms, Emporers retreat and Well of Spirits. I figure I will find those eventually.

2.) The Trophy Quest in The Grand Arena: It says to "Use Chest of Oka". I have fought everything and been into both trophy rooms I can not find this chest.

Anybody know where it is??

3.) Retribution in The Emporor's Retreat: It says to defeat Krokhotep.

My problem is, I made it all the way to him once and then lost. Now I can't get the lever to open so I can get into the area with the ice lake, so I can get back to where this bad guy is.

I went back and fought the princes, thinking it might make the lever open up the door again, but of course, this did not work.

Anybody have any ideas on how to get back to him? Or if anybody is on this quest I could tag along and we can beat them together.

Thanks

I am on the Emperor's Retreat quest, too, and was just about to log on. My Myth Wizard's name is Kenneth LegendSmith. I'll hang around the Entrance Hall for a few minutes.

As for the Chest of Oka: IIRC, instead of turning right into the Colisseum, continue straight ahead. It's in the room just past the entrance. You don't have to fight anything (yet) but there is a puzzle to solve. Hint: "Patience is a virtue".

I reached level 11 today, I've learned so much of the game I can't believe what I used to ask in other forums o.o

I have a new problem though, can anyone help me defeat The Harvest Lord? I went with a group and and tried it by myself (I was overconfident because I got lucky and defeated the main boss in Firecat alley by myself).

Group: No one seemed to help, randomness everywhere, and I kept getting attack with those pesky Storm bats (SP?) until death.

Alone: Died in the 3rd turn.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

I just started playing the other day, and I'm totally bewildered by the training points and spell aspects of the game. I'm up to L3, but I haven't gotten a point yet (I saw earlier in the thread you get one at L3). I was able to purchase 2 ice-related cards and 1 fire related card in the library, but I can't seem to use them. I'm so lost, it's not even funny. Anyone have any suggestions? Or any idea what I'm doing wrong? :rotfl:

Usually it's best to start off with your lowest card as you start a battle and move up the ladder so to speak of your power cards. Of course you are doing that while trying to keep up your life, too...lol
And, it's best to try to get as many battles in anywhere as that helps your experience points and overall experience, too. I spent the first few days avoiding all I could and it took me a little while to move up on my first now defunct character.:)

The Death School is the building behind Marla (the girl standing outside Sunken City in the Nightside). Nothing to fight there, just go in and meet the NPC.

They have changed the levels at which you receive Training Points. You now receive your first one at Level 4, and every 4 levels after that. (At least until you get up into your 20’s.) Of course, because this is beta and they are still tweaking things, it may change again.

As for the cards you purchased (and other Treasure Cards you may receive as rewards), here is Diva of Dragon’s guide (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=25942812&postcount=195) to their use.

Every card has a pip value. That is the number in the top left that tells you how many pips it takes to cast that spell. You honestly don’t need high level spells (4+) in the earlier part of the game. You can read the post I wrote about pips (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=25945740&postcount=209) for more detailed info.

Usually it's best to start off with your lowest card as you start a battle and move up the ladder so to speak of your power cards.
Just to amplify this point: If you start with one or two 0-pip spells (like your wand blast or a spell shield), you will not be using up pips and can then power a higher level spell in a subsequent round.

Does anyone know how to activate that empty badge slot? I'm assuming it's on Colossus, but I'm just guessing here. I'd like that first page of badges to be filled, if possible. In the meantime, I'll keep fighting evil snowmen and gobblers! LOL
TIA!

I don't have the Three Streets Savior badge, just Wizard City Protector! And I'm on my way to getting my next Krok badge....only 72 more to go! :rotfl

I have a warning for everyone, but I think I need to put it into its own post.

I wanted to warn people that there are players who will jump into a game (not unintentionally from a friends list jump) to add a monster and NOT FIGHT. I had one such player in Krokotopia, a fire wizard. I know we had a "no names" rule for VMK, but I think this guy should be named.

I talked to another wizard on the sidelines, and he said this same guy did that before. He almost cost me the battle, but reaped the benefit from my victory. I was beyond mad that he'd do that. He wouldn't pick any card. He would let the timer run out.

I thought I'd warn anyone doing solo battles to watch out for this. I reported it in the game as something I'd like them to fix. I suggested the battle boot out any player that doesn't pick a card after two rounds.

The Death School is the building behind Marla (the girl standing outside Sunken City in the Nightside). Nothing to fight there, just go in and meet the NPC.

Thank you so much. When I went in there before it was empty, but was having trouble with lag and must not have waited enough for my computer to catch up. Should have know there was supposed to be a NPC in there. Yay! Now I can go to the other world!

I had a player do that to me twice (not a fire wizard though). The first time, I thought maybe she was new or had lost her connection. The second time, I'm afraid I did the mean and drastic step of fleeing after she failed to respond to several questions on my part. So she either had to finish herself or flee too.

I've probably been the cause of that a few times due to my connections issue, but did have some guy do that to me this weekend. He just stood there with all
of his shields on and did nothing else. lol I think we did finish the round because whoever was helping me did help, thank goodness! But, I did have to take a non dis player off the other day. He was driving me mad jumping in from wherever he was right into my battles, and of course adding bad guys each time he did! And, of course he couldn't talk like most of us can (kid account). I think he wasn't up on Krokotopia level yet, but wanted to play there!;) It will drive you crazy at times....lol

Last night, I finally got the Grubb, and let me tell you, my new friends (a husband and wife team) make the perfect fighting team with me. It turned out that DH and DW were already starting Grubb and I had no idea.

DH sent me a message asking if I could jump in, and I did. Turned out when I recognized Nightside, I thought, cool...we were going to do that with DIS. So after a few rounds where DW got pulled into a battle from the sidelines, we finally got a lot of bosses done. One of them was a multiple tower "flight of stairs" thing, so we were able to jump home and refill our health and mana.

When we got to Grubb, who was 1000 health points, yikes! I tried out some of my new toys....er...spells. I had a Life Blade that boosted my spells 40%, and a Spirit Trap that boosted Life/Death/Myth 25% on the enemy. Yesterday, I received a 4-pip Seraph that does some nice damage. With the blade on me and the trap on Grubb, I hit 794 in one shot! That got a "wow" from all three of us, and their eternal gratitude.

It helped that DW had a Water Minion that would taunt the bad guys to stop hitting us and hit it instead. With lots of spell shields, too. Considering that Grubb gives you next to nothing as a reward, it's one of the hardest tasks to finish.

Sorry to change the topic for a second, but has anyone been to the secret shop in Krokotopia? There's a hat/boots/deck vendor there who sells class-specific hats, boots, and the mummified deck (700 gold) that holds 30 cards. On the roof, there's a trainer that gives you myth-based minion buffs (heal minion, siphon minion, shield minion, sacrifice minion, etc.). It's pretty cool.

Thanks for the info. I've been to the Hidden Shop several times -- but didn't know about the rooftop trainer. I will definitely check that out. It must have been added at the wipe, as I'm sure I went on the roof prior to that.

The Mummified Deck is the best deal in the game. Holds 30 cards and is half the price of the other decks you'll find in the Oasis. It is, for me, an essential purchase upon reaching Krokotopia.

It doesn't stay open very long -- only a few minutes at a time.

If you watch the obelisks next to the teleporter, they'll give you an indication of how close to "Opening Time" it is. The graphics on the side of the obelisks illuminate, starting with the hourglass at the bottom. When the top section lights up, the teleporter is open.

After posting above, I logged on and went to the Oasis. Since the obelisks were lit almost to the top, I only had to stand around for maybe 4 minutes before the teleporter opened.

I would like to meet up sometime too. I need to get some experience in fighting with a group. I've pretty much done this solo so far, and well, the bad guys are ganging up on me now. I'm at level 15. I'm currently on this morning in Falmea Area 1.

Belle, in your book (click the book symbol on bottom right of screen) it will open up a menu, if you hadn't found it yet. One of the tabs looks like a scroll, that is your quests task that you have right now. Watch for NPC that have a gold exclamation mark above their heads. Those are the ones that have a current task for you.
Also, the tab that looks like two metal balls, gives you choice of what realm you are in. (like instance of a room). I try to pretty much stay in Falmea Area 1. I'm Grace Silverglade on the school of ice.

How do you use the arena? The only time I've ever been able to is when I did the tutorial with the puppet. I've tried time and time again, but all I can do is stand on a circle and watch others around me dueling.

Also, am I missing something to finish the "Dark Cave" quest? I've finished off two undead minions, but nothing happens, and I haven't seen anyplace to pick up a skull.

I think I defeated Lady Blackhope before I ever visited the library. If one of the books for the "Library Dues" quest is in her tower, how am I supposed to get back in there? I don't think the door is lit anymore.

Pretty much. Sometimes you get to run back and forth between good guys without fight, like you are their messenger (usually a way to get you introduced to a new area). The bad guys get progressively harder, of course, but you get more experience/spells and more treasures/gold. I see it as a series of puzzles to figure out, which I like. The 'battles' are just a way to get another piece of the puzzle.

IIRC, Lady Blackhope's door is not like those found later in the game. It doesn't have the glowing circles in front. Just go up to the door and you should be able to go in.

If you see any NPC character with yellow punctuation over their heads, stop and interact with them. And even when they say they are "done", check to see if more punctuation pops up...it often does! And you'll see gray question marks above those whose quests you've accepted and not finished yet.

NEWS FLASH: They just closed the game for an update. This is probably the "Monster Difficulty" adjustment they have talked about on the site's forums. If so, everyone should find it a tad easier to defeat some of those beasties.

UNRELATED NOTE: At Level 28, my Myth Wizard was given a quest for a new spell by the ever-charming Professor Drake. I am supposed to locate the seraph Lady Sylvan, who is the sister of Oriel (of the Hedge Maze, Unicorn Way). The trail has led to Hyde Park in Marleybone, where I have been instructed to defeat Kenedy the Klaw. Although an NPC told me I could find him in the warehouse past the spiders, he is not there. Nor is he in any of the other warehouses/safehouses/boss hangouts in Hyde Park. (Believe me, I have the battle scars to prove it.)

If you, or anyone you know in the game, can provide me with any guidance or information, I'd really appreciate it. TIA. :wizard:

It is just the nature of the schools, some schools get way more health/mana per level than other schools. As an example, I've recently started playing my Balance wizard and gotten her up to about level 15... she has about 900 health while my level 35 storm wizard has only about 1300 and the gear my storm wizard has is much better than the gear my balance wizard has.

PS - Is the game still down for the update?

I’ll be on both Wednesday and Thursday about 5:30PDT. I managed to complete the Ironworks yesterday (woot!) and am now starting on Scotland Yard. I still have some things in Hyde Park to clean up, too. My Myth Wizard's name is Kenneth LegendSmith.

My daughter and I play the game together. She is a Storm. I am Life. We are both at level 19, however, I have way more health and mana than she does. I have around 1200 health and she has around 900.
I’ve stopped playing my Storm Wizard at the moment because of his health/mana deficiency. When I compared him with my Pyromancer at the same level (15), I discovered he was a full 100 HP lower in stats, after I adjusted for any clothing/accessory boosts. I guess they have designed it that way because Storm School spells are much stronger, but I thought the higher fizzle rate took care of that discrepancy.

My plan is to play her wizard and do battles that will gain her experience points so that she can increase her health and mana levels. I don't want to work on the quests because we have been doing those together and I don't want to level up.
The experience points you receive in battle, like those you receive from completing quests, go towards increasing your character’s level. Your maximum health/mana levels only increase through (a) leveling up your character, or (b) wearing health/mana boosting clothing and accessories.

One possible way to get your daughter’s health/mana closer to yours (without more questing/character leveling) is to re-fight some of the boss battles she’s completed. Bosses drop some of the best gear, so she may get a prized item. I’d especially try bosses in the “stormy” areas – like Triton Avenue in Wizard City or the Tomb of Storms in Krokotopia. Before the wipe, my Storm Wizard got an awesome robe, which boosted his health, mana and spell accuracy. (Sorry, I can’t remember which boss dropped that on him.) If my post-wipe Storm Wiz had that item, he wouldn’t be sitting back in the classroom currently.

Woot! I'll be happy to get that task out of my spellbook, too. (Maybe I'll be able to find Kenedy the Klaw after this update, too.)

Question: Do you have to fight a boss to get to the sarcophagus? Or do you find it out in the regular hallways? I am so sick of running around that tomb looking for it that I want to get this over with as quickly and as painlessly as possible. ;)

No bosses. Just go to the Djeserit (sp?) crypt and you stand in front of the middle sarcophagus. Then you run back to see him in the Ahnic tomb....same old guy. They forgot to change his name on the map tho. He is a Djeserit not Ahnic as the map says.

You have to find and defeat Krokankhamen(sp?). Unlike other bosses, he roams the hallways of the Throne Room of Fire instead of keeping to his room. Just keep your eye out for the gator with the big headress.

Note: Do not leave the Throne Room of Fire until you have completed all your quests there. Otherwise, the Throne Room re-sets and you will have to do it all over again.

TIA. :wizard:

The Kennedy the Klaw one is a bug. I and another player asked about it on the Wizard Forum but never got a response. If you wan to go over there and add to my post, please do! They might finally say something about it.

Oh, and I had gotten to that point. pre-wipe, but I am doing it over. I talked to Dworgyn (sp?), at the Death school, and now I'm supposed to find oriel's sister or somone. It says "on the grounds of Nightside, but I don't see anything. Where did you look?

I've posted over on the Wizard Forums, too, but have yet to get a response. I figured it was a bug -- but that didn't stop me from (fruitlessly) trying to complete it anyway! Hopefully the new update will fix this.

The "grounds of the Nightside" bit had me confused, too. I even went into Sunken City -- and what happened there is a story in & off itself. Short version: I ended up inside a giant glitch that turned Sunken City into a true ghost town. There was not a soul, living or undead, in the entire place!!! But I digress...

I just kept running around Mortis the Tree, and eventually he "talked" to me in a pop-up (like the bosses do). I was about halfway between him and the exit when that happened, so I think the trigger point is somewhere around there.

Help!!! My pets names have been changed from 'Tigger' to stupid 'Tigra', :scared1: did this happen to anybody else??? I noticed they changed a lot of names, ('Snoopy' is now 'Snoopie', 'Tigger' is now 'Tigra') but I really hate the name they gave my pet (if they are going to change it, at least then let us pick the new name!), anybody know how/if we can change it?? I can't sell it and buy a new one, since they were gotten after the swipe and you can't get the Golems and the unicorns any more.
I contacted them about it, but based on how long it takes them to approve messages on their forum, I have a feeling I won't be hearing back from them any time soon....

Anybody having problems getting to Tomb of Storms?

I finished the Sphinz, talked to the Balance teacher, talked to the Sargeant Major, talked to Hetch, and got there (after some doing) the first time. After that decided to do some banking. Now Shalek will not talk to me in the Sphinz, the Balance teacher just wants to train me, the Sargeant Major tells me to talk to Hetch, Hetch will not talk to me, can get the head to come up, but it will not let me teleport over.

Is there a trick I am missing? Tried standing right in front of the head as it comes up and also tried to go into it after it is up and nothing happens before it goes back down.

If I can not get this to work will just have to watch somebody do it that has already been there and if all else fails just follow someone there.

Try standing way back from the head, like all the way off of the ramp, and when the head does come up, give it a moment then run right into it.

We got Padric through Kensington last night YAY!!! (3 hours with 4 of us playing so plan that when you need to do that instance). I think are going to do some Grubb or Beguiler runs this weekend.

Anyone need any of the instances listed below?

Ironworks (Marleybone) approx 45 min to an hour to complete *Thursday Night
Beguiler (Krok) approx 1:30 to 2 hours to complete
Grubb (Wizard City) approx 1:30 to 2 hours to complete

Time to start thinking about the Grubb runs that were postponed from last weekend. Looking back a few pages, the following had expressed interest:

Shelby (Fire 33), early afternoon
Autumn DayBreaker (Life 17), morning run
Angus Hexblade (????)
Briar (Life 16)
Matthew (Ice)
Cardinal

Are there any others that might be interested in joining a group to get through? Some idea as last time - post your school, current level and time preference (if you have 1).

The planned start times for the runs on Saturday (7/19) are:

I'm up for either a Beguiler or Grubb run. Beguiler with my Myth Wizard (Lvl29) and Grubb with either him or my Lvl21 Pyromancer. (Will try to get him to Lvl 22 before then, so he can get the Meteor Strike spell.) My schedule is pretty open this weekend.

NOTE to Fly (or anybody else about to do Ironworks): I don't know if the game will let you, but if at all possible, pick up the quests from the Policedogs and prisoners in Scotland Yard -- especially the frog in the cage on the roof. Otherwise his quest ("Liberty!") will send you right back to the Ironworks, and you will have to fight several burglars and at least one Boss all over again to get access to the areas you need.

I ended up doing practically the entire Ironworks section again last night -- stopping just short of the final Boss Battle and going well beyond what was needed to free the frog. I managed to level up, and get a cool new spell deck, too. The Ironworks actually aren't too bad, especially if you're good at playing "Follow the Leader" on the factory floor. :dance3:

I clicked that button, which opened a dialog box to write email to them. My problem turned from "126" to "123", as it tries to download the "patch" similar to the update I saw when I successfully logged in yesterday.

Can do the Grubb run, but would need to start earlier on this Saturday (10am) or anytime this Sunday.

At the moment mornings (have to end before 12:30pm) or evenings (after 10:30pm) would be fine most any day of the week. My work days off are in flux right now, so never know too far ahead what days I will be off. However it is extremely unlikely that I will ever get Saturday or Sundays off.

After you finish Emperors Retreat in the Sphinx and talk to Shalek he will give you a Golden Scarab and send you to the Balance School. The techer there will tell you to talk to the Sargeant Major who will give you the second scarab. He also will tell you to talk to Hetch who will give you the thrid scarab and tell you how to get the portal to Tomb of Storms to emerge.

Basically you have to go to each oblisk and type "x" to get it lit. It seems like you only have a certain amount of time to get all 3 lit, but it is pretty easy. Once they are lit the portal (head) will emerge and you can enter it to get to the Tomb of Storms.

Before the latest updates Chedstro and I had the same problem. We ignored it and just did the other quests in that area and the quest disappeared at some point.

It seems that at some points the game gets ahead of you and gives you quests you can not complete at that moment. The other one that comes to mind is that Shalek tells you to defeat a boss in the Grand Arena to get Thor's Hammer when you first go into the sphinx. However you can not get to that boss till you finish the Hall of Champions area and are into the Grand Arena quests.

Does anyone know if the quest to defeat Krokopatra is bugged for them also? I am all out of quests and the only thing left for me to do besides that is the party run in the Tomb of Storm (can't remember the name, but it is the entrance on the left hand side up the stairs).

I clicked that button, which opened a dialog box to write email to them. My problem turned from "126" to "123", as it tries to download the "patch" similar to the update I saw when I successfully logged in yesterday.

The progress bars continue to load until the end when I now get the solution 123 error. Sigh.

I ran into this same problem yesterday. After uninstalling and then redownloading the game I was off to the races. I realize this doesn't really help Wizard 101 with resolving the problem, but it beats being frustrated not knowing where to go with those solution errors.

I was playing yesterday and two other wizards joined my battle. After selecting a card, one of the other guys suggested a different card showing different symbols, etc. I wanted to say "Dude, it is going to take me 30 minutes to figure out what those symbols mean and whether or not I have a card like that!" :rotfl:Glad I'm not the only one who has trouble deciphering everything. I think I know what I'm doing with my cards, until I see myself doing something in battle that I have no clue about!

can you see a platform in front of "The Model City"(What i called^_^)in that room? move on it and stay here, then a dialog box will tell you "push X button to interact",that's the answer~

You aren't missing anything it's that the sequence of events is a little confusing. The task to explore the platfrom cannot be completed until after you get the Eye of Krok.

Thank you all for your help. Will try again tonight :worship:

I have went all over and there is nobody to talk to for the quest I am referring to. The only quest I am able to do is the Beguillar run where you have to save the brothers and fight several bosses back to back but have tried to solo and it is just too difficult at this time. The quest I am having trouble with is when you go into the actual Temple of the Storm and then do the Quest to test strength and intelligence before being allowed to go to Krokopatra. When I get to her, she is unable to be selected to battle, but she can still hit back.

Thank you to Cheryl, Shelby and Rowan for helping to complete Kensington.

11 am eastern
2 pm eastern

I'm just a maybe for tomorrow, so if you have a quorum without me, that would be good.

Also, just saw this on the Wizard homepage:

"This weekend (7/19 and 7/20) KingsIsle will be performing heavy load tests on the Beta Service. While we hope that these tests will be transparent to you, intermittent service interruptions are possible. Please be patient with us as we test our service in order to make it more stable (and fun!) at launch."

You can safely put that quest on the back burner until you find people to do it with – or until you are quite a few levels higher and want to try it solo. It is a side quest and will not hold you back from progressing through the main storyline.

I've been using the Falmia realm in Firecat Alley, so I don't run into other players very often. But someone was there today asking me for help with the Banshee in the Tower (Lady Gravewind?) to get the lock of hair. I was heading that way too, and I agreed to help. (I feared I would end up being more of a hindrance than a help, since I can barely keep track of my own cards and points during solo combat. But there's no way to indicate that with quick chat, and apparently he couldn't see dictionary chat.) When we got to the tower, we tried to enter at the same time but I ended up by myself and I assume he did too. I exited but could not find him again. (If that was one of you, my apologies!)

What is the trick to entering together? Do you have to be on each other's friend list?

Rather than setting up groups in advance, I have decided to sort of see who shows up. For those that are interested, we will meet on the Rainbow Bridge in the Commons of the Flamea Realm, Area 1 at 11 am and 2 pm (eastern). From there, we will break into groups and find the Grubb.

Some things to think about when fighting as a team:

1) Try to have all of the members of your group are on your friends list, not completely necessary but it will make things easier.

2) Make sure that you have full potion bottles before starting the quest.

3) Make sure that your 2D Combat Display is turned on - this is under settings. There are some bad guys that cannot be targeted in the normal way. Having the 2D Display allows you to target them by selecting the symbol above their name. This mode also allows you to see what your teammates are doing - which spell they are going to use and who they are targeting.

4) If you are in a fight, be aware of the health of your teammates. If someone is getting low, a sprite, fairy, unicorn, satyr or shield is often very appreciated.

5) If someone has placed a trap or convert X to y prism on a bad guy be aware and try not to use it on a basic wand spell. While they are meant to be shared, try to use it on a lvl 3+ spell to take full advantage of the trap or prism.

6) In the event that someone dies or needs to map out and heal, wait until they come back before advancing to the next task. This is so that everyone gets the experience points for the task.

7) When fighting bad guys in order to complete a task, target the helpers before going after the main bad guy. The reason for this is that the helpers usually have a lower health point total and can be taken out quickly. Working in this manner will help cut down on the number of spells that are sent back towards your group.

8) If someone is defeated in the middle of a fight with a boss, try not kill the boss until they return. As a group, you want to make sure that everyone gets credit for completing the task without having to repeat it.

9) Have fun, good luck and see you on Saturday

I did as everyone suggested and uninstalled the game from my computer. Then I went back to reinstall the game from the download page.

I am still getting the solution 123 error. :sad1:

I give up. I guess I won't be playing until they can handle the server load, I guess. That was what they were telling me in email. Sigh.

Edit: Whoa. Something worked. But I'm back in my original clothing. And while it's saying I'm still an Adept, it wouldn't let me back into the Oasis as if I was too "young". Did I lose all my hard work playing all this time?? It's still loading "shared_world data". I'll have to wait and see.

Is anybody having trouble with the game asking you to do a completed task more than once? I'm in EMperor's Retreat. Shalek asks me to defeat the two Skowki princes. I did. Then the server crashed. I went in again and defeated both prisoner's. This morning it logged me in to the door outside Emperor's retreat. (I don't think I quit there last night). Went in. Saw SHalek. And yup! He asked me to go defeat those two princes again. SInce I did these two routines s few days ago when I was doing the Emperor's circuit, if I have to go again it will be the fourth time killing those guys!

Actually I went to emperor's retreat just because I could not get the doors of the four princes in the Karakan Plance to open and I thought there might be a clue in there.

Any thoughts? Anybody else having these "recycling" problems?

There are some 'instances' you have to complete in full. If you don't complete, it resets. That is one of those instances. Just like Grubb was in Wizard City. You will find even more of them in Marleybone.

Hey! I don't know about the quest you are on, but I had that happen with the Map Room quest. I completed the entire sequence, found the right place on the map, clicked to interact and the dude in the map room made me do it all over again. I was just glad it wasn't too intense a quest and redid it in a short time.

Oh, joy...hah. Thanks for the warning! I'm not anywhere near Marleybone yet, but it's starting to sound like a scary kind of place! I wish Wizard would place some kind of notice on those longer series of quests that must be done in one shot. We have a HUGE advantage over other players who don't have a network of friends to help them. A warning note from the first NPC that issues the quest would be a tremendous help to anyone who knows they won't have the time or people to finish. That would give us all the option to accept the quest or leave it for another time without having it sit in our quest lists for a month. LOL

Actually they have posted on their forums this:
- Some of the areas are "encounters" which means that they are intended to be tackled by a group all at once. This is why they reset when you leave them. They often include puzzles and custom monster spawners and triggered events, which is why they reset. To keep them from resetting, at least one of your team mates should remain inside.

Good rule of thumb: If you enter by a countdown, x marks the spot, entrance, then everything behind that door is an 'instance' or 'encounter' that must be finished before exiting.

Also, for those of us finished or close to finishing Marleybone:
- MooShu is in testing, but very (very) close to being made accessible.
- Dragonspyre will come shortly after release.

Yes, I read the forums, but not daily and I would never remember which quests are a series of quests by the time I came to them. lol I'm just thinking of the kids who don't bother with the forums. Maybe some are shy and don't like asking for help, that kind of thing.
Also, some warning that it's going to take hours to complete, maybe most of the day, would be helpful in determining whether or not to ever start that quest. I think the NPC who issues that quest should give some indication it's going to be extra long and you cannot leave after a tower is completed, but must complete the entire series of towers. The Grubb quest does state to have your friends join you, but not that it will take about two hours to finish or that it will reset if you leave for lunch or bedtime. Heh.

3) The extra cards not in the starter deck how do we use them. Is it better to use the insulated wand or not seems to give poor magic.

1) we both got a flask that can be used as extra life so we do not need to reload. How do we fill it. Play the mini games in the fair or pay the lady in the front to fill your flasks.

2) Where do you find the smith's they seem to be in every room but have no idea where to look Hehe! Its part of the fun to search. We can advise, but you should just explore to find them.

3) The extra cards not in the starter deck how do we use them. Is it better to use the insulated wand or not seems to give poor magic. The gold cards you add in the deck under 'p'. Then you discard and hit draw to pull a random card from what you have loaded. The insulated or any other wand will just give whatever is listed 45 or 60. Use what you have until you get another better wand wand. Obviously the wand can be resisted by a member of that school.

4) how do you tell if you have the best magic clothes on? Check each individual tab...hat...wand...comparing what you have on (in the far left box) with what you have in your inventory. Blacked out you will not be able to use either because wrong school or wrong level.

5) I chat in game how do I know people are actually seeing what I am saying.
No way really unless they don't respond. You can ask them.

6) I am doing Golem towers is there a way to replenish you magic and mana since I have to go all the way to the top and keep dying. I would wait until you are in Krok and have 2 flasks of potion. You will get a second vial when you start your second land. You can't leave the instance and you can't have health from outside or help inside. So heal during the match or potion as needed between floors.

Thanks for helping :)

You are welcome.

Can't wait to see what MooShu has in store.

4) how do you tell if you have the best magic clothes on?

5) I chat in game how do I know people are actually seeing what I am saying.

4) My personal preference is to wear clothes that give me the most health (red vial) and mana (blue vial). I think others may choose to wear clothes that increase the strenght, accuracy, shielding etc, of a certain school. Try them both out and see what you prefer.

5) I'm not sure that all of your chat is appearing. Last night when I saw you by the tree, I could see your mouth moving but no words were appearing. It wasn't until you used the secure chat that I could see that you said "Thanks."

Yes I was trying so hard to talk. I am not good at choice the words so I am glad you at least found my thanks for making me a friend :) I knew who you were but could not communicate. That is the one thing I find difficult in the game.

This is an instance...you start and can't finish it until done. Just remember that
You start the quest with Wintrop there in the map room.
This is the time to read what Wintrop says...because you don't get a quest button like usual telling you what to do.

You kill someone for the stick.
You have to kill the Prince for the jewel for the top of the stick.
Both go on the platform and you talk to Wintrop and you are done.

If you need some help we can help you in about 30 minutes (20 to the hour)

Do you have to be on each other's friend list?Still looking for an answer to this question. I'm guessing that teamwork cannot be used for these kind of towers?I wish Wizard would place some kind of notice on those longer series of quests that must be done in one shot. LOLYes, I read the forums, but not daily and I would never remember which quests are a series of quests by the time I came to them. lol I'm just thinking of the kids who don't bother with the forums.
Heh.This is why I don't think Wizard 101 truly succeeds for the intended age range as a multiplayer game. Without outside communication, it would be very difficult for many kids to coordinate the kind of effort needed to complete these quests. And we know how awkward the ingame quick chat is.

I can't really consider this a social game for a few reasons:

1. There are no shared social "events" that would tend to bring players together in one place.

2. There is no real sense of personal space that can be shared with others.

3. Communication is more difficult than it was for a game like VMK, even for players who can use dictionary chat.

I've decided that I will enjoy Wizard 101 up until the point where I can no longer make any progress in solo mode. If a game goal takes a two hour group effort to achieve, it starts to feel too much like the "Blackheart Quest" to me.As a fizzle master of the storm school, I keep an eye out for accuracy boost clothing first and foremost, with health and mana as my secondary consideration.Holy moly, which clothing items give accuracy boost? This Storm wizard could sure use some of that! I use the health boost clothes a lot, but didn't know there was accuracy too, other than the gold card which is only one time use. Did you get those clothes from drops, or did you have to buy them? Thanks for your help will stop trying to get the task a Golem till more pwerful.

And more flasks :)Belle, if you finish the quest in Unicorn Way where you help the Seraph (Lady Arielle?) you'll receive a very valuable Pixie card that gives you 400 health points. I don't know what I would do without it; it's the only way I managed to finish the Golem Tower quests. (I have not reached Krok yet; am still finishing Wizard City.) If you can manage to hold off using your potion bottle until the very last tower level, it is possible to complete this.

Still looking for an answer to this question. I'm guessing that teamwork cannot be used for these kind of towers?
You can use teamwork. I would probably have just let you go in and come to you from my friends list. But he might have had to 'load' the instance, which would have made you and he go in at separate times. That has happened to me often enough. So I just usually follow a friend there.

This Storm wizard could sure use some of that! I use the health boost clothes a lot, but didn't know there was accuracy too, other than the gold card which is only one time use. Did you get those clothes from drops, or did you have to buy them?
There are many you can buy, but clothing drops from Boss battles are the best clothing you can get. Often I would repeat to find other cool things.

Yeah but it is a LOT easier for you to wait for two potion bottles. A normal deck only holds 3 pixies. Sometimes the pixie just won't come up. So potioning between the 3rd and 4th floors help tremendously.

Is it a matter of experience points rather than the completion of specific quests that determines when you can advance?

AZCat
07-19-2008, 06:41 PM
Yes, you can advance without completing all of the quests in an area. The reason this is possible is that some quests are secondary to the main story line. Examples of these types of quests include Golem Tower and Proof of the Grubb.

I found that I've picked clothing with a combination of health points, power pip boosts, and outgoing health boosts. And yet I'm at a place where I tend to die doing quests solo.

I'm at the Tomb of Storms, the 4 princes, and I know this is a "defeat them all at once or start over" type of quest. But I'm either having a really bad draw of cards, or they are just too strong for me.

I won't even attempt Beguiler alone. ;)

So at this point, I can't move forward until I get the Karanahn Palace done.

You actually have to LOAD your cards from your professors and trainers. When you go to your 'deck', in the school tab at the top you will see the cards you have been given. Beside of the card, to the left, is a red dot. When you put cards into your deck you will see them a) in the deck beside your cards (toward the left side of the page), b) the light will turn to yellow showing how many copies you have.

The OTHER thing is you must equip yourself with a deck. So go to your 'b' backpack and make sure there is a fist beside of the deck you are going to be using.:wizard:

...
2) Where do you find the smith's they seem to be in every room but have no idea where to look...
3) The extra cards not in the starter deck how do we use them. Is it better to use the insulated wand or not seems to give poor magic...
6) I am doing Golem towers is there a way to replenish you magic and mana since I have to go all the way to the top and keep dying...
2. Without giving too much help, I'll just say the Smiths are only about waist high to a normal character, are not labeled in any way, and are never in an area that you will have to fight while getting them. You may be in a "combat" area, but they will be where the enemies can not get to you. The same goes for the beetles in Krok.
3. As far as using the wand - it may not have a powerful hit, but does have a 100% chance of hitting and is better than a pass when you want to build up pips for a more powerful spell. I would much rather use the 100% wand if a more powerful spell is greyed out than a one pip spell (provided the one pip spell would not finish the character).
6. I would suggest saving the Golem Tower at least till you are finished with all the Wizard City Quests except Grubb. The first 2 floors should be pretty easy to do at that time. Once you get on the 3rd floor I would suggest doing a heal spell right before you finish off the last enemy. Then after the 4th floor you can use your potion biottle to be fully refreshed before the final battle.

Tried to answer this before but my reply got lost.

If you both type "x" and end up on the same circle outside you will not enter together. You will have to both exit and try again. An easier way is to become friends, one of you enter, and then the other "Go to location" under the friends list.

An even better idea is for one to enter and start the battle then the other "go to ...". The reason this is better is that if you both enter together you will have 4 enemies to battle. If you join a battle in progress the enemies will not increase from the 2 of a solo battle.

A big thank you to Shelby for getting me through Krokopatra so that I can now get to Marleybone. (Also thank you for reminding me why it is 1)a good idea to keep those potion bottles full and 2) that you can flee, use the potion bottle then teleport to your friend to re-join the battle).

Also another reason to have lots of good DIS friends to help you out. If I recall you need lots of friends to get through Markley bone (It took me four weeks to get back here after the big wipe (while I was on vacation))

The intellegence test is the series of three rooms you have to go through before you meet Krokopatra. The last one with two Braziers and four obilesks is a real bugger. Well I am about to log on. I still need Grubb and Beguiler. I am not quite up to the K palace yet, as I just started the first quest in that area (killing some ravagers in the hallway).

I too still need Grubb run. I also need to do the Keeper of the Fang in the Ice Vault at Krokosphinx. I can't seem to do either of these on my own, they are both instance areas, and the bad guys gang up on me. I can't seem to get any other tasks, so I think I'm stuck until I get the Fang one done. I have no idea what the Beguiler is, so I guess I'm not up to that yet.

I really find it frustrating that some of these tasks take a group and can't be done in stages with breaks. I think it is really a poor feature on a game! It is difficult for me to prearrange a time to get a group together as I don't know when i'll be able to get on, and for sure I will have the 2hrs to keep playing. And silly family sometimes needs mom to pay attention/help them when I thought I was going to have a block of time to play. I would hate to start with a group and then would have to leave. And as a mom, I would be really annoyed at my kid that wouldn't leave a game to come do whatever I called him for (like come eat dinner, or do his chores) because he is in a task run like those!

edit: Woot! Finally got the Keeper of the Fang task done. I think I ran into a bug, I finally got all three locks broke (Defender, guardian, protector) and the door openned, but no Keeper of the Fang was in the room, Nothing! I kept looking around, but couldn't find anything, so mapped home. Tried again, fought and won all three battles AGAIN, broke the locks, and that time there was was a Keeper once the door openned.

I am finally back to Krokotopia, after being reset. :cheer2: But, it seems like the quests are different, or at least in different orders. I cannot get into the one area (Palace of Fire?) from the main pyramid, and I thought I could last time. :confused3

Two questions I am hoping someone can help with...
I am Fire and I was given a spell called "Steal" that I cannot figure out how to use. It costs 1 pip and is supposed to steal clover(?) back. But, the couple of times I've used it, I don't notice it doing anything. So, I've removed it from my deck. Can anyone explain what this spell does?

Also, I was given a quest by Falmea (fire professor) to acquire an ice fire gem. She sent me back to Krokotopia to talk to the librarian there. The librarian told me I could only retrieve one at someplace (can't remember the exact name) that is part of Krokosphinx. But, I can't get onto the boat to get there yet. Did I get this quest out of order? Is there something I have to do to get the Major to give me permission to get on the boat?

Thanks!

You will get access to the Palace of Fire eventually. Just occupy yourself in the Royal Hall and the Chamber of Fire until then.

It will steal a charm from one of the enemies. Say a Krok has cast a boost spell on itself. You can steal that charm from it and put it on your own character instead.

Professor Falmea gives out that quest automatically when you reach Level 18. Unfortunately, I think the vast majority of Pyromancers are nowhere near to having access to Krokosphinx at that point. In fact, I'd be surprised if any of them do. (FYI, I've sent in a comment to the developers about this. I believe all the other schools receive bonus spell quests at the same level but are able to complete them without waiting for areas to open up.)

They added fire gems to the Pyramid of Fire post-wipe, so you'll be able to pick one up there. However, you still need to talk to somebody over on Krokosphinx after that, so don't get too excited about that.

You will get access to the boat to Krokosphinx after you complete the main Pyramid of Fire quests (specifically, the Throne Room of Fire instance). You've got quite a ways to go before that. You could also probably teleport to a friend over on Krokosphinx and complete the quest that way.

Remember if you have the gold to spend, you can always visit the dye shop in Wizard City to get the better clothes to actually match for you.

Also good to note if you are buying clothes from a shop that different color combos have different costs, so you can often use this to your advantage.

Belle, can you see what other people are saying when they are not using the limited chat drop down menu? If you can see it, then yours is turned on. If you can't then you need to go set your options to Dictionary Chat. If the dictionary chat option is not on, you can neither see nor speak with the secure chat option. So if who you are talking to doesn't have it, they won't be able to see it.

Go to www.wizards101.com (the main website page), log in (its on the left side drop down menu), then chose "my account", go to the tab that says Account Controls, toggle on the "Allow Dictionary Chat' (check it), and save.
Then launch the game. Once in game, while you are just standing there, hit Enter. The box at the bottom should come up for you to type in. You should be able to see your words come up on the screen, and see words of others that are typing in their words (versus the drop down).

are you by chance on? I'm going to go by the lake in the common are Falmea area 1 just in case. Maybe we can meet up.

...2. Without giving too much help, I'll just say the Smiths are only about waist high to a normal character, are not labeled in any way, and are never in an area that you will have to fight while getting them. You may be in a "combat" area, but they will be where the enemies can not get to you. The same goes for the beetles in Krok...
Just wanted to correct my reply:
The Smiths are now only about knee high and look like leprecauns with little pots of gold.

Also even though all the comments still hold for the beetles, they are much bigger and usually easier to see then the Smiths. It could be because the Smiths are usually pretty blended in with the green grass they are usually found on where the black beetles are usually found on a brown surface.
