Does anyone else miss the DVC Binders as much as I do??

I really think that they should've continued with the inserts for the binders. Now, they've given us the new "book" last year and are they going to print yet another book up to put in the point charts for the Beach Club Villas and the future Disney Institue Vacation Club homes??

Wouldn't have been easier to just keep sending the inserts??

I agree with you, however we had this discussion before on this board, and it apeared to me at the time, we would be in the minority opinion.

I heard next year it will be a hard cover book.:) Mine was falling apart in no time so I think that will hold up better. I love the new books though. They offer SOOOOO much more than the binders did.

Mine is in pieces also. Every now and then I find the pages are all out of order. That's how I review it, while putting it back together!

I agree that there is more info. in the new book, but that could have easily been sent to put into the binders.

My book is on it's very last leg. It started falling apart last year when we received it, while my binder is still in perfect condition.

While I do like the format and info in the new books, they should have been made with much better quality.

I mean, you pay $20,000 + for points, the least they can give us is a book that doesn't fall apart at the spine!

sorry for venting, but my book practically discintegrated in my hands when I opened it this evening!! - Arrrrrghhhhh

If they do put the hard cover on next year, that should make everybody HAPPY!!:D

This is not an excuse for the books breaking, but now you can just take the pages out and punch them with a 3 hole punch and insert them in your binder!

Lisa.... That would be an excellent idea, but I am a new member and only have this one and since I am a new member I have read and re-read this book so it is completely falling apart. They definately need to use a different company to have these bound next year.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I do prefer the old 3 ring binders but also feel there was much more info in them than in the new books. I find the largest difference are the things not in the new books. A lot of the technical rules are not spelled out in the new books.

Hi everyone,

I was given a hard back promo book last year and within 2 weeks of the Saudia Arabian sun it was in bits, and when I had returned from military duty in the gulf a few months later I saw the new Guidebook it lasted weeks and we did not even use it that much. Bring back the Hard back binder all is forgiven.

I think they switched so they can make changes in the rules without raising a 'red flag' by sending a new page. They just make the change and send a whole new book. This way changes are slipped in without us knowing. I hate to sound like I don't trust DVD, but they have made many changes since 1993, at least before I knew when they did it.

I want the old 3 ring binder back.

Another vote for the old 3 ring binder. We are new members so we don't have the original binder but the friends who convinced us to join have shared theirs with us many times and it was one of the good selling points of the program. Everything so organized, a place to keep extra papers and info, and nothing fell apart. We've had our current guidebook less than 4 months and the binding has completely separated from the pages.

Of course, you can always replace that falling-apart book for the *nominal* fee of what is it? $15? I'm still using my binder. ;)

At least you all received the new book!

I waited to see how long it would take them to send us ours, and the answer is: we still have not received it (yet).

I finally gave up and requested it 2 weeks ago, they said we wuld get it in 3 or so more weeks.

Amazing, we got our dues bill right on time:confused:

But IF and when we receive it, we probably won't like it either:D

I do agree that the new book is more informative, however, I miss the pictures of the II exchanges. I find that it barely lists any information about them with the exception of the world map with the dots indicating their location.

I also find this book harder to find what I want when I want. If I quickly want to view the point charts for any of the resorts, I find I have to flip through the book once before I find it.

With the binder, I had placed dividers and labeled them, OKW, BWV, etc. to quickly and easily find what I needed.

Just my 2 cents...

To find out info about the exchanges, one can log into II directly and look at the Resort Directory. Even better, one could also join TUG at $15 for year one and $10 for each year thereafter and look at the reviews.

I'm sorry, I still don't see the new book as more informative. There is little information in the new book not in the old though it is laid out more concisely. The problem is that many of the technical rules are not spelled out in the new book. The other problem was recently demonstrated when the BC mailings came out, no reasonable way to add to the book. I like the new book but it's mostly fluff IMO.

Another vote for the three-ring binders!! You can open the binders up and the pages will lay flat for easy reading. With the new book , I am constantly fighting to keep the pages open.

mine is also in pieces...I like the idea of making my own binder by punching holes...

Mine is also in pieces. Glad it is not just me. My husband says it fell to bits *** I read it too much!

Lisa F...

I had to laugh out loud at your idea of punching the loose pages and putting in your binder. Great visual!

I also miss the point ledger that was in the binder. I made copies of it and still use it for keeping track of my points...but the new members who never had the binder do not get the point ledger.

I know there are point managing spread sheets out there...but my computer crashes too much...high end user here...installing...uninstalling...reformatting... tinkering...i need the safety of a printed ledger!!!!

I bet it is a cost issue. I would venture a guess alot of folks did not keep the binders up to date and was always complaining about not seeing something.:)

a follow-up to DaveH...

along that same line, if someone tries to invoke an old policy, they can't claim their binder was out of date. MS would just refer you to the latest book.

I thought I was the only one who kept the binder. I made copies of the pages to keep track of points used, banked, borrowed etc, I really miss that. I like the calendar but the new book looks like a sales brochure to me and guess what I'm already sold! A lot of flash but no real new substance. IMO

I, also, use my binder. It seems so much easier to use. I know that we can go on line or use tug reviews, but I enjoy using the binder. The book is nice, but I don't like to use it; it's so fragile!LOL!
I just wish we could get new blank sheets for the binder, to use for the points record-keeping. I made copies...but it is just not the same as brand new Disney pages!

I still have the binder....we must have been one of the last groups to get one. The thing I like about the binder is that whenever I find something on these boards that I want to remember (packing lists, recipes of things to cook while at DVC, etc.) and can print it out, punch it with a three hole punch and insert it in the binder. Things would fall out of that back pocket in the book very easily.

MaryJ.....I really like your idea. I am going to buy a three-ring binder with dividers. Each divider will be different DVC resort...and cruise...and World Passport....etc.....

DH and I are fairly new members and I had not come up with a good way of organizing. There is so much info here on DIS I didn't know where to start!!! Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to put it together. I foresee using it every time we travel as a reference. With DVC getting there is half the fun!!!

Muushka, you are not alone. I never received a book and have requested that it be resent twice! Still no book. I have to call MS this week about something so I'm going to let them know that I'm more than a little upset about this. We had a similar situation with getting membership cards...but we got them eventually. That didn't go on this long though. And of course I receive all the other mailings...dues statements, sales pitches, referral stuff...but not what I really need.

So anyway...I just wish I had a book to fall apart!

After 2 or 3 calls I ended up getting 1 book, a couple of weeks later I got another. I'd be willing to mail my spare to the first person who e-mails me.
