Very nice campground, Carol, :thumbsup2
Looks exactly like a place we would really enjoy.
Along with everyone else too, I would suspect.

A comment and a question:

1. Nice job on the bicycle/tricycle alignment.

2. What's up with the small trash can on the post? What is that all about?

Couple weeks ago, we had the absolute best spot on Kerr Lake, NC. Hubby had a tournament, and we were right near the boat ramp so he could buzz on over there before the blast-off. Then he fished right by our site and we got to see him catch his first fish of the day.

Here's the site:
http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/zz357/polkadotsuitcase/Campgrounds/kerrlake01.jpg

You can see how wide this thing was! We fit the camper and boat side by side:

And here's hubby right before he landed his first fish o' the day:

Here is our campsite at Torreya State Park in Florida over Memorial Day Weekend. Its a rustic little campground with good hiking trails.

Pros: Nicely sized, treed sites; Large campground with golf cart rentals available; Air conditioned, modern restrooms; Fishing pond and no license required!; Pets allowed (Pebbles, the camping dog, didn't come though); Beautiful main pool - really!!!

Cons: Right next to Rt. 15 so it's a little loud - you probably won't be lulled to sleep by the sounds of crackling campfires or a chorus of crickets.

I would absolutely stay there again!

It can't compare to the Fort for scenic beauty, but if you're a Nascar fan, this is the ultimate camping/racing experience. Parking in the infield along Lake LLoyd, wow. Driving through the tunnel for the first time is something I will never forget. We're somewhere in that sea of 250 motor coaches. And there are thousands of other RVs and tenters in other areas. If you think the Fort is expensive, compared to the restricted access sites at Daytona, it's not even close. We're talking thousands of dollars for the event. But the cable is better. It's worth it if you're into Nascar. It's one huge party for five days.

http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/ad19/mybuddyboy/IMG_0076.jpg

The second photo is the view of the backstretch. It's taken from the roof of the RV. Set up a TV, chairs, and a cooler up there for the races and it doesn't get any better than that. It's amazing being on the roof of the MH along side hundreds of others and being surrounded by over 200,000 people.

http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/ad19/mybuddyboy/Picture034.jpg

The sites are small. Just enough room for a class A, with the awning in the open position, and space for a car up front. Restricted access premium sites have water, elec., cable, but no sewer. But there is a truck that comes around and pumps out your black tank as needed. This section is mostly motor coaches and a few 5th wheels. TTs don't work too well in this section because of the height difference. If you have a TT and there are MHs beside you, your view of the track from the roof is blocked unless you stand.

Frank, It's early and I'm operating on 7 cylinders this morning, but you stumped me about the fence.

The only thing I can think of is your wondering why the fence. If I'm right, the reason is that those sites are resticted to people staying there. I guess they felt that if you're in there, you want some privacy. If it was open to everyone, it would be the same as all the other sections, wall to wall people.

In regards to the Fences, it is usually where the drivers families, and as they put it important people stay. I keeps the general crowd away from them and gives them some sort of privacy.

We love it too. We bought it at a local RV show in MN. They make signs of all different designs, some have parts that move in the wind. The kind we have is great because it is flat and stores under the mattress in the camper. The company is called Metal Craft by K. Here is their website: http://www.metalcraftbyk.com/

Very nice shade. I was supposed to have a site there for some friends a couple weeks ago and they messed my reservation up and I had to drive south to Ocean Grove. I really like sites with shade especially in the summer. How was the rest of the facilities and did you try the on site restaurant?

This one ranks right up there with the Fort. Open, spacious campground, some sites with hot tubs, and swimming in the lake was even more comfortable than swimming in the pool. They have paths for golf carts along with bikes and pedestrians. Bathhouse was the best we've ever seen; even better than the Fort.

Yep, it's no Disneyworld but for a four day trip during the summer, this was one of our favorites. :thumbsup2

Tons

The lake used to be a coquina rock quarry. It's about 1.25 miles around but gets to a depth of about 35'-40'. There's a sign showing all the fish in the lake. I remember largemouths, bluegill, three different types of catfish, crappie, eel, pickerel (never heard of these), and some carp. There's probably other types but I can't recall.

In the swimming area, the small bluegill get so close you can almost grab them. They're quite used to the people. Fishing is allowed but you can't keep them. They even rent boats. The biggest caught there so far is a 12lb. largmouth. Check out this pic from the website.

Unfortunately, the turtles are getting quite populated as well.

I can’t believe I didn’t see this thread sooner – I love looking at other’s photos from the places they’ve been for ideas. I’ll have to share some of our photos.

This year we've been thoroughly utilizing our season passes to Kings Dominion (in Doswell, VA) and camping at least once a month at their “Camp Wilderness” We’ve been assigned Site 182 the last 3 trips- I like this section of the campground the sites are great if you camp with friends as they are all awning to awning sites.

We were in site K-10 but were camping with a group of 6 other families and were able to set up a group fire ring in the center of all the sites. I had read reviews that these sites were tight and they were but since we were with a group it didn't matter. We booked under their $15 a night Spring Special so we couldn’t beat the rates. I know they are in the process of changing over to a NASCAR RV Park but this place didn't impress me much. There was a playground, pool (not in season) and mini-golf (very run down) along with a basketball court and the kids had fun at the scheduled activities but the sites were tight and had we not been camping with a group of friends I doubt we would have enjoyed our stay. It took us less than 30 minutes to get to Atlantic City from here.

In 2009 we visited the Orange Grove area - it's about 20 minutes from the Hollifield camping area. We walked across the suspension bridge and also hiked the trail to Cascade Falls - I'm sure it's clearly posted somewhere and I just missed it but if you want to see the falls take the first left when the trail splits - the right will send you very high up on a mountain with 3 river crossings (from personal experience - I don't advise anyone attempting this with a 2 & 3 year old but they were troopers and for some reason loved it.)

I love this picture of DS - and obviously they do too as it's used in a lot of their advertising publications:confused3

We didn’t visit the Natural Bridge on this trip but did when we went 2 years before. On this trip we did visit the Virginia Safari Park – we choose to ride the wagon vs. driving our truck through.

And we also found a local swimming hole – Arnold Valley - note this was very much off the beaten path and took a little searching for but was very much worth it for the secluded fun we had. A little further down the fireroad we had a picnic lunch and the kids played in the stream some more. Here there’s a swimming hole that is freezing cold but you can jump from the upper rocks or slide down the waterfall/waterslide

Yes, but if you go later in the summer you'll be fine. We go to a local water park every year the last weekend in July and it's great. VA is wonderful, lots of land to cover - mountains are beautiful and to the east there is the ocean and tons of historic sites.

Letchworth is an awesome park. We camped there when I was a kid like 35 years ago. I tore almost all the ligaments in my left ankle jumping a drainage ditch in the campground and spent 6 months on crutches. Ahhhhh, the memories.

Lovely military/retiree/government employee campground - level, great facilities, and more dang deer than you can imagine..... we heard snorting during the night, looked at the rear-view camera, and there were about 30 of them bedded down behind our motorhome....lol.

Do you mean the chuckwagon breakfast...yes, we did. We also enjoyed a dinner at the Ponderosa restaurant (located near the campground office). I loved the scenery and the fresh mountain air. Of course the proximity of the campground to drive to Mount Rushmore, or the option to take the shuttle bus was an added benefit. The only thing that the campground needed was cable TV as we could barely receive TV signals to check the weather forecast.

Nope, I meant the chuckwagon dinner ride. http://www.ridesouthdakota.com/rides.htm#ride. We didn't do the cowboy breakfast ride. Just the pancake tent. We had our anniversary dinner at the Ponderosa. That was a nice restaraunt too. I know what you mean about the satellite. We specifically asked for a site where we could get a signal, so we were down in the main part of the campground near the office. I could see where it would be difficult in other parts of the campground.

Hey, I just noticed the timestamps on your pictures. That was two weeks before were there. Small world!

This year we visited the Recycled Tire Playground at the Hilton Area of the state park. There is also primitive camping in this area of the park. The Hilton Area is about a 10-15 minute drive from the Hollofield Area – the playground is designed for kids ages 5-12.

We wanted to try to make it back to the Avalon/Orange Grove/Glen Artney area yesterday before we came home to see Cascade Falls again but it was raining and no one felt like walking in the rain so we just packed up and left.

It's 90 Minutes worth of 30 Second Exposures- Stacked with a free Startrails Program- I had more but the lens actually did fog up around 9pm and the rest were unusable. You can actually see where the fog started at the bottom of the wide streak that the moon made.
